In the Wukongverse, who are the bigger Disney fans??

(asking since I've been on a metal Disney kick)

Smokey would rock Poor Unfortunate Souls by Jonathan Young but would get so into it he needs his Macaque cuddles afterwards to right his head (self demon issues, he is a hero but he also tricked people in the past and is on his journey to change and be good)

While Cherry on the other hand would hands down have fun singing Peyton Parrish's version of I'll make a man out of you since he just started his journey and his pilgrim brothers could use the advice.

The LMK Wukongs love themselves some animation goodness! Mostly to chill after a rough day. Wrap up in a blanket, stick on a film he's seen a million times, Eat some peach chips; he's a happy monkey.

LMK Macaques get distracted by the animation!! Cus? "Peaches look! They're using layered paintings to simulate movement!!" Their faves are Fantasia ( Original and 2000) naturally cus of the high animation quality set to classical music. Dawn/Peach walk in one day and find their Dusk/Plum on the ground crying while watching the cut Dali "Destino" segment.

MK's fave is "Treasure Planet". Try not to ask why or he will change the subject and switch on "Princess and the Frog".

Dasheng doesn't really care, but he watches them anyway cus Liuer and the rest of the kids really like them. He's embarassed to admit that he can sing every line of "Beauty and the Beast" perfectly. Also good date night movies - Zhanshi's fave are the fairytale romances. <3

Smokey don't care about the cartoons, but he does get down to the villain songs. Blasting "Poor Unfortunate Souls" and "Hellfire" so hard that his LEM has to step in to calm him down. Liang is more interested in the technical side of the works, but he just beams with joy whenever the babies chirp/bark excitedly at that opening logo. Shared fave is "The Little Mermaid" naturally (though Sandy argues that it's not an accurate depiction of sea fish demons).

Ace and Joker pretend that they don't care, but you know these goobers take the kids and grandkids to Disneyland whenever they have the excuse. Lots of the classics (since they just got made in their universe) and shared infodumping. Ace will send the other SWK's classic Donald Ducks and Goofy cartoons in the group chat without context.

Cherry and Olive are equally super excited cus "Moving paintings!! Heck yeah!". Cherry's faves are the og animated "Mulan" and "Lilo and Stitch" without question. The latter caught him by surprise cus it made him remember who he's always felt like "a weird little alien" on earth, and Lilo and Nani remind him of Lin. ;_; Olive is just delighted to watch anything Cherry is super-hyped about, and they both hoot happily at the tv together.

Shihou and Mihou are kids and they love cartoons no question. Shihou likes the Milt Kahl-era ones like "Sword in the Stone" and "The Jungle Book" cus he vibes with the themes of growing up, but he finds the romantic ones boring. Mihou in contrast secretly adores the classic "princess" movies like "Sleeping Beauty" and "Cinderella" cus of the sweet stories and music. Shihou will watch Mihou's "boring" films with him without complaint cus he knows how much his opal love them.

Sugar likes the "roadtrip" movies the most; "Atlantis", "Treasure Planet" etc. He's still technically on his Journey, and he loves hearing/seeing tales of others. Spice is pretty shy to voice his opinions but... he likes "Pinocchio" the best - the concept of being created and having to adapt to the world mostly-made tickles his brain in a good way.

Starfruit don't care. Why should he? He knows the real guys! He sees Peter Pan on the regular in the Library! Lilac is the complete opposite, they hold streaming parties with associated Legends to watch their "adaptations" and critique them based on accuracy vs execution. Starfruit joins in, only because he, Goldie, and Peter get to read the movies to filth in the group chat XD

Two movies that hold a place in all their hearts are:

Hercules: Themes of obtaining godhood, heroism, an unclear purpose, goth gf, and weird horses.

Moana: Island life, wanting to explore farther, doing what you can for your people, the inherit tragedy of demi-gods, the whole Te Kā situation...

When I was homeless I used to take my leisure in the climate-controlled, wi-fi enabled digs of the Tulsa Public Library system. I went through a phase - if you can call it that - and had a peculiar experience walking along a country road, directly related to what was piquing my interest, and soliciting my leisure time investigative skills at the library. This began six plus years ago, w/ schizophrenia, Lorca's Gypsy Ballads, and of all things... Spain, and Horses. 😂 Lorca wrote some poetry about Andalusia and horses, and I was hooked. Horses it was. Specifically, what is the altogether enchanting factor about this particular creature? Wi-fi access, and the sheer joy of simply following the whims of my interest, and I am soon delving into subject matter like the goddess Rhiannon, Celtic horse goddess Epona, and a very interesting British society shrouded in Masonic-like secrecy - hand gestures and all - called The Society of the Horseman's Word. Hierophants eventually become endowed w/ the mystical power to fully subjugate a horse w/ a phrase. They're actually very interesting if ever you wish to Wiki. Anyhow. I'm reading on a site of above-average credibility, about the spiritual aspects of horses, and I'll here paraphrase to the best of my remembrance: "horse's act as a spiritual medium to convey messages from the divine to humans." Bear in mind, I'm not seeking out horses to prove a theory, I'm simply sitting in libraries having fun. A while later, and still homeless, I'm making a long trek from Glenpool to Tulsa, on the backcountry road known locally as Elwood. I come upon a small pasture, and if I'm brave, I'll be presented w/ the opportunity to pet a beautiful horse grazing alongside a fence, in tandem w/ a few others. Hopping the ditch, nearing and mustering, I finally calm the horse enough to pet it, and do so dumbstruck and slightly scared. Towards the rear of the pasture, two other horses are beside eachother, a male and female. I intuitively know which is which. The female is dominant, and has displayed affection to the male w/ an amorous nudge of the head, and the male becomes very goofy and coy, lowering its head, embarassed and fluttering. I observe all this w/o the horses' awareness, I believe. All of a sudden, the female turns, aware of the entire duration of my onlooking, and glares at me. As if to say, "if you bother the boy I love, I'll kill you." It was shocking, and coincidentally strange enough to merit goosebumps, though it didn't... How bizarre. What exactly was the spiritual message of the horses in relation to my life? I don't know. But the love of horses goes on. Reading about them the other day, this time from the comfort of a house, I saw an article about the Carthusian monks who bred Spanish Carthusian Horses, not w/o a spiritual slant... I quote Wiki, in short: "there was a spiritual dimension to this breeding, as evidenced by an account of the perception of God's face in a horse's eye."

"Y/n erm I noticed you-" you look confused as he blushed heavily "yes" Harry stuttered "well I was wondering if you would oh...Merlin goouttotheyuleballwithme" he says nervously. You kiss his cheek "yes of course I would love that potter" you turn and wave "see ya Harry".

-the night you two dance away was great when he doesn't step on your toes. He was awrkward but you teach him how to dance properly so it isn't bad. You guys dance the floor away with your great yet slightly awrkward dance moves.

Night status: cute and fun.

You mostly sat back and danced with Harry with no hesitation while he whispers "y/n your beautiful" he seemed to love the way you looked.

Ron Weasley:

How he asks you:

- he asks you out of fear since Fred and George keep pestering him. So instead of him leaving in fear you see as they tease him. Fred "bet you don't have a date Ron" before you step in "actually Fred he does..oh and I would hurry if I were you all the good ones are being taken" you smile sarcastically. Ron was surprised "erm thank you y/n but I really did ave a chance" you raised an eyebrow "Mabey but I wanted you for myself" she teased. "See you there"

- he was rather awrkward at first but got used to it after he loved surpringly dancing with you. "Oh Merlin is that what your mother gave you" before he looks down feeling embarassed. "I don't mind it if people shall laugh then it's on them at least we bring Joy" you say as you smile grabbing his hand. He began to take the lead and wanted to follow in rhythm as you laugh and smile.

Night status: flimsy and magical

- despite the embarassing outfit he actually managed to take in your offer and you two enjoyed the light despite a few laughs.

Fred Weasley:

How he asks you out:

- he puts a bet to Ron by throwing paper at your head. "Oi" you whisper in class as Fred with his fingers muttered "G O T O T H E Y U L E B A L L W I T H M E" you smile lightly as you nod he smirks at Ron as he asked you. You held up a thumbs up and laughed while Snape holds Harry and Ron's head down.

- your both very goofy not really caring about the other people. You don't waltz it's to mainstream instead you do swing. Blowing the danceroom away everyone joins in with you two being the main show. "Ahaha we swept the night away alright" you laughed. Fred would often smile and swing you around the room.

Night status: spunky and fun

- you two were the crowds favorite that night causing an uproar of swing. Everyone likes that you two aren't mainstream being fun. Fred chose to date you from then on.

Despite what you might assume a game about a bunch of tough muscley fighting dudes, the amount of moral philosophy in this game could rival a 3-part episode of Star Trek: TNG in terms of surprisingly deep and emotional thought. The struggles the protagonists go through has a huge emphasis on honor, keeping your word, taking responsibility for your actions, standing up to things you think are wrong and persevering no matter how much pain, suffering and threat you personally go through all in the name of trying to be a good person, and emphasizing that the mental fortitude to stand for your convictions is the true strength, not just brawn. Character development is absolutely fantastic and I feel like it’s impossible not to fall for these main characters by the end of the game, no matter how weird or even pigheaded they might seem to you at first.

(Trust me, moral philosophy is probably my biggest autistic hyper-fixation. They did this shit GOOD.)

Another major reason I really love Yakuza 0 is that it takes an unusual setting to the normal person - the incredibly political, dark, yet surprisingly realistic setting of organized bullies, criminals, and the uneducated brawn and bad-attitude baddies of the world and try to show them as worthy of more as humans like you and me than just trash that should not be seen or touched. The amount of humanitarian outlook on these people and the humanitarianism of our protagonists is absolutely heartwrenching and beautiful. Despite appearances, anyone can be a good person - this seems to be a major message in this story which I just find absolutely beautiful.

The yakuza definitely have different rules to their world, and that is one that’s built on violence over paperwork, especially when it comes to showing eachother the extent of their passion about something. I feel like it’s an excellent way of portraying the difficulties any normal person goes through with their mental health while struggling to do the right thing in a very direct and relatably painful way that anyone can understand.

The story deals with not only the importance of preserving life and protecting it with surprisingly pacifist ideologies, but the aesthetics in align with the idea that no matter how dark the world or your life feels, happiness is always an option.

Why you might love Yakuza 0 even if the plot doesn’t sound that interesting to you:

Tons of minigames - I think about 28~30 total. That includes 4 actual vintage SEGA arcade games! There’s also tons of gambling games like black jack and shogi, fishing, rhythm games, bowling, fighting tournaments, pool, darts, stock car racing, doll dressup.. It’s very hard not to find at least one you’ll like!

Tourism. Yakuza 0 has such an incredible amount of visual detail to every nook and cranny of every corner and unseen alleyway in the town maps that it feels just absolutely insane to me. The devs didn’t need to put in all this detail but they did. I could legit spend hours in first person mode just looking at everything. On top of that, every restaurant in town has a detailed menu describing each item despite the fact that all food items are just generic healing items. I think there’s even a bar where the bartender will go on a spiel talking about certain drinks after you order them. The atmosphere really makes you feel like you’re truly taking a vacation in another place. Great for when you’re longing to see new scenery while being stuck at home all the time during COVID.

The amount of optional side quests is absolutely insane. According to a wiki there’s a total of 100 side quests in all. If you’re a fan of JRPGs or a fan of completionism, completing them all gives you a ton of extra content and side-stories that can sometimes be just as gutwrenchingly wholesome or tragic as the main plot, or otherwise be great comic relief.

Speaking of comic relief, this game is notorious for it. The main plot can be incredibly serious and stressful and the devs know that can really wear down on the mental state of the player after awhile, so seeing Kiryu dance at a disco in the most lame awkward embarassing dad way possible, or see him pick up a phone in the most ridiculously over-dramatic way for no reason, or see Goro sing lovey-dovey pop songs is just something that will absolutely kill you with laughter and joy and give you a refreshed break you need to help you be able to keep continuing on.

Big fan of seiyuu (Japanese voice actors)? The karaoke bar lets you hear your protagonists’ gorgeous singing voice. You can even invite some side characters and hear their voices too!

NOW THE FAIR CRITICISMS:

Despite the plot having a huge emphasis on how important the morality is of not killing, fighting animations are often totally lethal. Goro canonically fights with a knife and a bat by the end of the game. Both characters can use guns, swords, poisoned knives, baseball bats and other lethal items as a weapon. One of Goro’s main fighting animations is snapping a dude’s neck. Kiryu threw a dude out of a high window. Kiryu shoots at dudes with a gun in a high speed chase at some point and none of these instances are ever addressed in canon plot as having blood on the hands of these characters - no matter what, the people hurt by these things seem to be able to stand up fine later on like nothing happened. Even the main characters can get shot by an actual gun 20 times in a row and shrug it off by shoving convenience store food down their throat. It’s super dumb but absolutely hilarious in it’s unaddressed B-Movie esque hypocritical nature and became a huge in-joke with the fandom. Despite these Goofy Video Game Logic instances, the main plot (specifically the cutscenes) are all extremely realistic and well done. Actual members of real-world Yakuza say the story is pretty accurate to reality.

One of the minor characters is obviously a trans woman but is misgendered constantly by other characters, including the protagonist (though this may be a translation problem), and is the only female character in the game you can fight and have to fight in order to unlock Kiryu’s endgame fighting style (though he remarks he only fights her because she looks like she can handle herself in a fight). She does end up joining up with you as an ally afterwards without changing anything about herself so that’s a positive, I guess? SEGA is aware of fans’ dislike for transphobia and have removed a lot of transphobic content from their re-releases of future Yakuza games, as well as shown the protagonist, Kiryu, as a huge LGBTQ+ ally.

Things you might like or otherwise want to check out relating to the same story style of Yakuza 0 I personally highly recommend:

Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! (aka, "From Today, It's My Turn!!"): Absolutely hilarious gag comedy with surprisingly heartwrenching drama and incredibly lovable in-depth characters. It’s about highschool delinquents in the late 1980s (same era Yakuza 0 takes place!). The two main characters remind me a lot of the protagonists of Yakuza 0 in that one is very straight-laced and honorable while the other is more prone to dirty tricks but still does the right thing in the end. I personally recommend reading the manga above all because adaptations cut out a lot of details that I feel add a lot of depth to the characters, but the OVA anime is pretty good on it’s own and there’s a hilarious live action TV show adaptation if you like slapstick.

Rookies: A story about an impossibly determined formerly disgraced highschool teacher doing absolutely everything he can to be the best teacher he can be. Part of his journey is helping reform a group of delinquents who have self-sabotaged themselves into having their baseball team - the one thing they cared about - disbanded. The delinquents constantly fight the teacher off, believing him to just be another adult putting on airs instead of truly caring, while the teacher perseveres no matter what to prove them wrong. A manga and live action drama - both extremely good.

for cravity, i think taeyoung would fit you well! as soon as i heart you speak in tiktoks, i instantly thought of taeyoung! taeyoung is soo good at tiktoks and i think it’s safe to say that he is the king of tiktoks! i think taeyoung would be the type to film tiktoks with you and would send you funny tiktoks to start your day off with a funny or positive tiktok! he would also always send you memes and would always use memes throughout your guys’ conversations!

for enhypen, i think jungwon would be a nice match! jungwon is the type to be very silly and i think he would love laughing at your jokes and funny dances! as you like to make others laughs, i think your efforts of making him laugh would be success and he would always laugh! even when you guys go out on a drive, you guys will never be caught not smiling and when you are with jungwon, the air would be full of love and joy!

for treasure, i think you would be nice with yedam! yedam is very playful and in other words he is goofy. i think with him, you guys would always be giggling over something like a joke one of you guys had said or a funny thing you guys noticed! yedam would also be the type to sing to you with his sweet voice! he or you would start singing and the other would soon start to sing along to create a beautiful duet!

for nct, i think you would be good with jisung! jisung is a really good dancer and i think he would be the type to dance to kpop songs with you! if you guys like the same groups, i think you guys would wait for a new music video to come out for that group and would learn the dance as soon as possible! jisung would love dancing and singing with you! as you guys have fun dancing and singing together, music can be heard any time of the day and you guys would love spending time, dancing with one another!

Amethyst continued keeping herself under control as she drove down the road in front of her. She let Garnet pick out her dress and decided to keep her sneakers for the sake of being somewhat comfortable for her date. Amethyst had just picked up Peridot who was smiling and starring out at the view they were passing by. Wearing a yellow dress with a green trim made Amethyst stare in awe at her date.

So what if they had been friends for a long time? Have YOU ever seen your friend look this beautiful? Have YOU ever wanted to hold their hand and never let go? Well you’re not Amethyst and tonight, Amethyst begged the stars that Peridot wouldn’t be weirded out by her or her habits.

“So!” Peridot began looking over at Amethyst with a smirk. “Have you beaten Breath of The Wild yet?”

“Nope, still stuck on a dungeon sadly.” Peridot gasped! “I think I know where to go though, just gotta get back to it!”

“Good! Text me if you ever get stuck again.” Amethyst loved this. Even if she was stressed about impressing Peridot, she could still find a way to talk to her even if it was only about video games. “I’ve been revisiting some old stuff whenever I’m not swamped with work.”

“You beat Sonic yet?” Peridot pouted at the teasing but shoved Amethyst playfully anyway. “You hungry yet P-Dot?” The blonde nodded happily as Amethyst pulled into the parking lot. Quickly the white haired woman dashed over to open Peridot’s door and helping her out. Both women shared an embarassed blush.

“You don’t have to be a gentleman Amethyst. We’re best friends after all.” A sharp chill went up Amethyst’s spine at the word ‘friends’ but she was able to push past it.

“Can’t help it sometimes.” Peridot giggled and linked their hands together walking into the restaurant and sitting down ready to order. Peridot had settled for some kind of pasta Amethyst never heard of as she simply order Spaghetti. “So, work been busy?”

“Not as much as it used to be. Although my boss could use more staff seeing as I’m usually stuck with all the extra work.” Peridot mumbled taking a sip of water. “How about you? The kids still being a pain at the boardwalk?”

“Kids will be kids you know?” Peridot nodded returning her gaze to the table cloth making the white haired girl nervous once more. Running through different topics in her mind she was saved as Peridot excused herself to the restroom. Amethyst dropped her head in her hands, it was just her best friend why couldn’t she keep up a conversation? So what if she was in love with her best friend? So what if she just wanted to hold her hand and never let go? Was there anything wrong with being this nervous?

“Yo.” Amethyst jumped slightly but eased back down as she saw her older sister Jasper smiling down at her holding their orders. “What happened to all that boasting you were doing earlier short stack?”

“Shut up, I’m just nervous is all.”

“I’d be too, did you watch her walk away? I’d love to have my hands on that-”

“Jasper!” The older woman chuckled before ruffling her sister’s hair.

“Be yourself dummy. She loves her friends so what better way to win her heart than being her friend?” Amethyst looked at Jasper as if she were bring mind controlled. “Whatever shrimp, enjoy your meal.” As Jasper left she shot at wink at Peridot earning a look of curiosity from the blonde.

“Do you know my old roommate?”

“That’s my older sister.” Amethyst mumbled earning a dropped jaw from Peridot.

“No way! You’re related to those muscles over there?” Amethyst blushed a bit feeling jealousy begin to appear.

“Don’t sound too upset now Peri.” Peridot ignored the sass by quickly grabbing her silverware.

“I just know how she gets is all. Just surprised she had siblings.” 

Amethyst whispered an apology and the two ate their meals in silence. The next stop was the arcade where the two women could compete or win stuffed animal prizes for one another. Come an hour into the arcade Peridot had already taken a good amount of photos of the date showing off her amazing abilities at the light gun games, along with Amethyst’s abilities to win stuffed animals. What started off as a worrisome moment of silence ended with a blast of loud fun and laughter shared by two friends.

Amethyst had taken Peridot back to the car and looked out to the restuarant where Jasper waved her goodbye. On the way home Amethyst started to worry once more as Peridot surfed the web on her phone as she clutched a stuffed bear to her chest. She had this moment to bear her feelings, to ask what the blonde would prefer of her, to find out if she was good enough.

“Hey Per?” Peridot hummed in acknowledgement making Amethyst shiver in fright at having been a terrible date. Swallowing her pride she bit back her fright and blurted it out: “Is this fine?…” Peridot put her phone away turning to look at her date in bewilderment.

“Is what fine?” Amethyst gulped again and held the wheel tighter.

“Is THIS fine? You know, going on dates with me, holding hands, spending time alone?” Amethyst whispered blushing brightly as Peridot gasped slightly looking at her lap.

“Do you think I had a bad time?”

“I just-… I just don’t want you to think lowly of me. I uhh… I really really like you Peridot. I know we’re best friends and I know we act goofy all the time but.” Amethyst took a shaky breath as Peridot drew her gaze towards the terrified driver.

“I would really like to turn our friendship into something more.” Peridot’s eyes widen for a moment before she returned her gaze to staring forward. “I-I would understand if you ummm… if you don’t see us that way but, I just needed to express myself.” Peridot shrunk as Amethyst began to put on a facade as she sniffed back her worries and fright.

“Amethyst.” Peridot began slowly placing one hand on the driver’s thigh. “I really had a good time tonight, honestly.” Amethyst visably cringed at the incoming 'but’ headed her way. “I love what we have and how you’re so much fun and enjoyable to be around.” Amethyst stayed quiet and swallowed back her potential tears. “But even if I were to say yes, will you promise to clean your room?”

Amethyst’s heart stopped for a moment before parking in Peridot’s drive way and looking into her eyes confused.

“I can’t date a woman who can’t keep her room tidy every once in a while.” The blonde smirked and leaned over kissing Amethyst’s now bright red face. “I’m up for becoming more Ames. Just promise you’ll clean your room tomorrow and call me over so we can cuddle all night.” Amethyst nodded like a fool as Peridot exited the car and headed to her front door. Amethyst watched her now girlfriend turn around and blow her a kiss before entering her home and calling out to her roommate.

Oh yeah she did it. Amethyst got what she needed and you can bet she was screaming her head off with joy as she burnt rubber headed back home to tell Pearl and Garnet everything! ——–
