«At least 17 people have been killed in Wednesday's school shooting in Florida - the second deadliest in recent American history. A 19-year-old suspected perpetrator has been arrested. "
"Two people have now been confirmed dead after a boy started shooting classmates at a school in Los Angeles in the USA on his 16th birthday. The victims are 14 and 15 years old. "
"Nine people, including seven children, died after the shooting at school number 175 in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, on Tuesday."
"Four students from 12 to 16 years and an employee were hit when 18-year-old Sebastian Bosse stormed into the school in the town of Emsdetten on the border with the Netherlands and started firing wildly around himself with four weapons on Monday. Before he went crazy, he announced on his website a cruel revenge on his former teachers and fellow students. "
School shooting has long, in several variants, become a separate search category on Google and has great potential for inspiration, especially for young men who have been bullied, anonymized and frozen. The latter example, from 2006, formed the basis for one of Lars Norén's last plays on November 20, 2007, written to and in collaboration with the German actress and performance artist Anne Tismer. Since then, it has been performed in a number of European countries - and now at Oslo Nye teater under the direction of the theatre's permanent playwright, Ilene SÞrbÞe.
Skins in the soul
I assume that it is largely to her credit that I have started to visit Oslo Nye Teater again, and perhaps her entry is a result of the long-term plan that theater director Kim Bjarke told about when he was hired in 2013. Oslo Nye was then In a deep crisis, the closure of the theater was a possible scenario, and Kim Bjarke was the man who was to get the audience back to the theater salon. The theater that "really goes down and tears in the soul" may therefore have to wait a while.
As is well known, this is exactly what Lars Norén does in his plays, and here November 20 is no exception. The text is written on the basis of the school shooter's diaries, as well as videos and a manifesto he had posted online prior to the action. There were no specific hate speech against Muslims and cultural Marxists. No defined accusations against politicians. Just rage over how he has been treated at school and generally lead over absolutely everything and everyone, whether they were Nazis, Turks, whores or government employees. Lead over the meaninglessness of normal life in modern, capitalist society: SUAPD = School, education, work, pension, death.
My actions / are simply the result / of their world / a world that did not let me be / who I am, he says in Lars Norén's text. It is a statement with a hiss of eternity over it. The boy is obsessed with an almost objective, general rage where absolutely everyone is guilty, including us in the audience. The absence of a larger ideological sky over his action is simply ascertained and justified in one fell swoop with: Can I not live with meaning / should I at least / die with meaning.
Requirements for performance
It is easy to imagine the power this text may have had in Germany in 2007, shortly after the shooting took place. Anne Tismer is then also said to have performed it with an expressive rage that was directed directly at the audience. In a schoolyard in Harstad in 2009, a 9-year-old fired two shots with a shotgun without anyone being hit. It is supposedly the closest we get to a school shooting in this country, which places other demands on the performance of such a text in Norway in 2021. The premiere should have taken place in April last year. This means that the young actor Tarjei Sandvik Moe has had this performance in his system for over two years. It is also visible in his quiet, sensitive - and confident - way of approaching the text. And the obvious, liberating little posing use of a video camera, which is aimed alternately at the audience and himself in a well-coordinated combination with scenography and lighting design. It's all designed by Oscar Udbye.
The audience, at a corona distance from each other, sits on each side of a kind of catwalk that extends across the entire width of the Theater Basement with a screen at each end, where a black and white surveillance-like video image of the audience is displayed. After a while, without anything happening, suddenly the boy stands there, half-hidden behind one of the canvas, gently making us aware of his existence. The first thing that strikes me is how thin and fragile he seems, in contrast to the archetypal image of the hateful, youthful avenger. This built-in paradox forms the core of Tarjei Sandvik Moe's way of playing. He moves along an alternately hesitant and insecure, alternately desperate, indifferent and mocking register of expressions. And he does so with a fine-tuned, restrained energy; he is an insecure boy with nothing to lose, which also characterizes his choppy walk back and forth on the catwalk and the precise use of the camcorder
Motion repertoire
Along the way, I find myself missing a larger movement repertoire that can complement the text and often contrast it. But I forget that in the moment when towards the end he slowly says down on the floor and in silence begins to do things with his hand in the open air, as if he is alone in the world, as if there are no others in the room. It is a golden moment, a dramatic turning point and the exception that confirms the rule of closeness to the audience. This closeness and the gentle variation in temperament make it all an organic experience where the boy, and we who watch, are together about what is happening. Until he finds that no one has any comment and he leaves the room with the firearms in a bag.
I have speculated a bit about the motivation for setting up precisely that text, which may not be Lars Norén's strongest and most relevant here and now. But even that I can only forget. Tarjei Sandvik Moe's interpretation holds, and well so.
Finally
Maybe it's deliberate, maybe it's a coincidence, a reverse fun fact: A little over a year ago, the great Swedish author Per Olov Enquist died. A few months later, Oslo Nye staged his play The 25th Hour, about a sensitive, misplaced boy who had taken the life of an elderly couple. In January this year, the great Swedish author Lars Norén died. A few months later, Oslo Nye staged his play on November 20, about a sensitive, misplaced boy who had entered a school and started shooting around him.»

SPNGATE Summary to my Knowledge
So letâs see if I got this
One-sided destiel confession and then immediate bury your gays sacrifice for dean
Thereâs a rumor the Putin is resigning
Georgia turns blue in the 2020 election
Castiel is basically forgotten for the final two episodes
11 Scenes were cut from the finale. Two romantic songs were part of the storyboard, one of which being Angel with a Shotgun.
One of the scenes is rumored to be Dean screaming for Cas
Eileen, Samâs deaf girlfriend, is dead and forgotten
Jack becomes God after Dean kills God and leaves
The brothers are alone again and fall into their old monster a week thing and Dean is still doing what his dad told him to even though he shouldâve grown past that with character development
Dies impaled on a nail, any injury that probably couldâve been fixed. This character who has struggle with depression and s*icide just shown giving up instead of getting the happy ending he deserved and longed for. Cas sacrifice is made meaningless by this
Thereâs incest
Unhealthy codependency last beyond death when Sam names his son Dean
The first woman who isnât killed or in pain for plot development is just standing blurrily in the background. Silent, with no name, or no pictures around the house theyâre supposed to be living in. IDK if sheâs real, she just so blurry
Party city wigs for old Sammy
He dies of old man disease
Thereâs maybe some more incest
Ends the show the way it began. Not in a symbolical circular ending, but one that basically throws away any character development they had
Random side character is in the finale and dies
You know instead of the beloved reoccuring characters the show has accumulated over 15 years and belongs in Heaven
Bobby I get, but Dean is in Heaven with his canonically abusive father? Why?
They blamed that on Covid and multiple actors came out and said that wasnât true. That they were never called
Georgia is confirmed blue again around the same time
The Spanish dub comes in and reciprocates the confession that the CW said wasnât
Everyone freaks out
The CW is officially in trouble at this point
Jensen recorded the scene on his phone and still has it. Hasnât released it.
Everyone realizes the scene is clearly edited
#TheySilencedYou and #TheySilencedThem trends
The CW uses Misha as a shield. They get the situation wrong and most likely told him to say the things he said. That it wasnât a bury your gays, we can DIY our rep, and the Spanish dub comes from a âRogue Translatorâ
Possibly gaslit him into thinking that he did something wrong when heâs not to blame
Many people say through it cause this isnât like Misha to say the things he said. Heâs on social media a lot, I think most fans understand him.
Thereâs a possible Indian dub confirming it, idk what happened with that.
As well as Portuguese Dub (idk if rumor or confirmed)
Negative reviews of the finale start disappearing from ImDb
Black Lightning is cancelled, which somehow became a part of this. Sorry Black Lightning
CW stays silent
Video(s) of the finale start disappearing from the CWâs official Youtube Channel
Also videos of the confession in Spanish have disappeared from the internet.
People start to open the conversation to the rest of the network and start questioning how the CW has represented minorities
Obama is a Destiel Shipper
Thereâs now an Italian Dub rumor. Which is questionable.
#SomethingToSay starts and goes hard on judging and speaking on the ârepresentation that the CW has presented. Going far beyond Supernatural to the point were every show is now guilty of something (with evidence)
Main points being questionable/bad queer representation with repeated use of stereotypes and bury your gays, stereotyping and villainizing black characters, fetishizing and stereotyping asian characters, ableism surrounding their treatment of disabled and mentally ill characters, and using a womanâs pain as a plot device
Thatâs surprisingly not the only points. Whole list here
The CW still hasnât made an official statement. The closest theyâve done is pin that generic âwe donât hate youâ post they made even though itâs practically incorrect at this point
Considering theyâve promised to do better in terms of representation multiple times in the past and have yet to prove it. Many people remembered Lexa and also Vanessa Morgan and that other Riverdale actress that moved on the Katy Keene. Who was apparently forced to leave her role, not due to the fact the series was cancelled.
Unrelated but someone on the Flash got Covid and they had to stop filming
Only God knows whatâs gonna happen next? Let me know if I left anything out

ALL RIGHT, YA HOOLIGANS ( @aspecialprovidence, @gentlegrace, @lipstick-and-shotguns, and @delanceyxbrothers - not you, @angeliatheturkishdelight, youâre an angel and weâre thrilled youâre here :âDDD ) BUCKLE UP BECAUSEÂ
HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS ON SARP AND DRUGS
First of all, we know Sarp was a difficult kid to raise. He caused trouble in school (his teacher in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL tells Nilufer Sarp had a good week because he didnât fight anyone or escape from school), had (has) anger issues, and his dad not being around was A Huge Thing. So I definitely think there was a heaping dose of teenage rebellion going on (fighting! brushes with the law! drinking! girls! at least one piercing! possibly tattoos (he doesnât seem to have any in canon but it would not surprise me in the least if he did)! zooming around on a motorcycle!), BUT I donât think drugs were part of it, and HERE IS WHY:
- SPORTS ARE LIFE. When Sarp was a kid he legit decided a BJK player was his new dad. His roomâs still covered in sports posters, boxingâs his main hobby, and he seems incapable of passing a soccer game without joining in. Also, have you seen what he looks like?! :âD Heâd stay away from drugs for the same reason he wouldnât smoke--he wouldnât want to risk his fitness.
More proof? Our #1 canon authority, ABI himself, who said, âNow Sarp, who Iâm playing, is physically relying on himself.â Working out is about more than having fun or looking good--itâs about protecting himself. And itâs hard to protect yourself if youâre addicted to anything.
- MONEY. Sarp and Nilufer sometimes have trouble just paying the rent--ainât nobody got extra cash for drugs.
- A RELATED SUBJECT: According to my thorough research (a 10-minute google search), marijuana is expensive in Turkey, but The Thing among poorer kids (at least several years ago--Sarp would have been 15 in 2005) is sniffing paint thinner or glue.  Now, Sarp does make some hasty decisions, but HE KNOWS BETTER THAN TO START SNIFFING CLOTHS SOAKED IN STRANGE SUBSTANCES. GOOD JOB, SARP.
- EVEN if that seemed like a good idea--Niluferâs a nurse. You can bet heâs heard about drug use consequences 54038304 times, PLUS he knows sheâd be more likely than most parents to catch on to him using anything. Also, Turkey has strict drug laws, and heâs not eager to spend several years in jail--both because it would Not Be Fun, and also (and more importantly) because he wants to protect his mama. <3
- On a related note: until he meets Maral, Sarp legit only cares about two people: Nilufer and Taso. Heâs friendly towards other people, but he doesnât run with a big crowd--even at Luna, itâs Taso and Maral and Asli bringing in the other employees, we donât see Sarp having close relationships with them on his own. And it sounds like even as kids it was Sarp and Taso against the world. So I think itâs unlikely that Sarp would have fallen in with a group that offered him drugs. (I see him as someone other people see as cool and interesting, but not âpopularâ. Heâs not afraid to interact with anyone, but I donât see him hanging out with other people outside of school/work, either. Our man ABI talks about the âmasksâ Sarp wears here--and I think the âcool kidâ act is one of those masks.)
- And finally, speaking of masks: Sarpâs a lot smarter than he lets on. Even though heâs got a hot temper and tends to be impulsive, he also shows that he can play the long game, both in terms of getting revenge and winning back Maral. And yeah, as a teenager heâd be less mature and experienced than he is an an adult--but I think that even if he did run into a situation where drugs were accessible, heâd be smart enough to realize that the effect on his body + risk of jail time + lack of money + potential addition + Nilufer finding out + getting in the way of his plans wasnât worth any kind of high they could offer.
END OF ESSAY, but LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!
#about#drugs tw#asked and answered#this is Long but also I haven't thought a lot about teenage!Sarp so THERE YA GO

S2 E18 Up The Long Ladder
This is another episode I mis-remember as season 1 because of the TOS vibes. More and more I realise when I say "TOS" I think of low production values, embarrassing or overdramatic acting, overt sexism or racism, or bad pacing.
Worf looks like he's going to throw up, and Riker is sitting just beneath him.
Wow, I think that's the first use of "Terran" to refer to Earth in TNG. I love the term. It makes me think of the mirror universe (Mirror, Mirror is my favourite TOS episode and I loved the Disco mirror episodes.)
Pulaski making fun of Worf's bravado is fabulous, it's a dangerous job but someone's got to do it.
How does Worf get a Klingon disease when there aren't any Klingons around to transmit it?
In surprised Pulaski knows anything about Klingon culture, she's had such disparaging remarks about Klingons before. I guess she really has improved.
"Aye, aye" typically it's just one "aye"
I hate that these characters are blatant stereotypes of Irish culture. The anti-Irish sentiment is long enough passed in America that perhaps the stereotypes are easier to accept an innocuous. Lucky Charms is a great example of accepted Irish stereotypes in America, and even if no one is offended by it, it's still unacceptable. I have read that Colm Meaney greatly disapproved of the depiction in this episode but wasn't in a position of sufficient power to get it changed.
Much like "The Royale" it feels like these costumes and set pieces were just pulled from stock.
I bet that straw was a pain for the film crew. Stuff like that gets everywhere. It's not a whole lot better than glitter.
This post makes a good point; why was the straw trasported in?
Riker asking "what about the men" isn't a line of great consequence but it's a welcome attempt at egalitarianism.
"the ship will clean itself" the one line answers a lot of questions about the ship, and brings up a whole lot more. I have no idea how the ship cleans itself....
This is either Riker's third, second, or first dalliance depending on how you'd like to interpret "Justice" and "Angel One". However this feels like a first because it's normal circumstances. "Justice" was a hyper sexualized environment and "Angel One" may or may not have been diplomatic manipulation. However between this and "Angel One" it seems pretty clear that at this point Riker is characterised as liking women with a strong sense of identity and self. (Again, I'd exclude Minuet as a slight outlier since she was built for him. Though she too had a note worthy personality and charisma.)
I feel like there should be some sort of metric or scale for Riker's interactions with women. Some he just flirts with, some he kisses, some he has sex with, and some he has an extended romantic relationship with, and each of these are separate activities he enjoys. (And then there's Troi). To some extent Riker seems to be written as a foil to Picard who only has a few, reserved relationships. I'm not sure if Riker's development in this vein is to play to a different "masculine" dynamic from Pocard or if he exists this way directly because of Kirk's behaviour.
I like Riker's honesty in assessing Brenna for the overbearing woman she is. She may light a spark but she is not his equal in demeanor. For what it's worth I'd like to point out that she initiates their little fling. However, it's only at this episode that Riker fianlly feels realised (i.e. developed) as the controversial flirt that everyone loves or hates.
This drunk "comedy" acting with the crossed eyes is part of what makes this episode feel TOS.
That beam down shot is different enough from all their other beam down shots it looks like they didn't get the group shot and had to make do with a different one.
Weird sculpture
Fun fact: the chances of spontaneously conceiving identical quadruplets is between 1 in 11 million and 1 in 15 million.
Also, Dolly the sheep was born July of 1996
"the entire concept of sexual reproduction is a little repugnant to us" *cuts to shot of Riker leaning back in his chair* Pulaski asked about them repressing their sexual drive...this is so far past 1960 haven't they separated sexual reproduction from sexual pleasure? Surely contraception isn't an issue. With Riker's career ambitious I'm sure he's not really into reproduction right now either.... It feels like the editing is trying to make a point that I'm not willing to accept.
Riker clearly has some strong feelings about being unique (so WTF happened in "Second Chances"?)
[This makes me think of Warped TNG Season 8...a planet of Rikers; Picard has to negotiate peace between beared and non-bearded factions. I've loaned my copy out so I can't check the details]
Jonathan either staggers or has a little swagger as he walks away from the table.
Such over dramatic needle work. Also, they're all wearing gloves but then put the sample needle right through the polyester space suit... Hello contamination.
Consent is important kids whether it's surgery, sex, drinking a cup of tea, or cloning.
(I can't actually tell that's Riker and Pulaski but I can suspended a bit of potential disbelief.)
Also, pro choice.
"unfortunately it will have to be a shotgun wedding"
It feels like accepting this ending is a shotgun wedding. I read a critism of this episode on reddit that I entirely agree with: it's a terrible episode. Not only is this a vapid ending glossed over by an empty speech by Picard but there are stupid loose ends (as pointed out in reddit) what happened to Worf's measles and what happens with Riker's fling with Brenna? She's quite happy to drop Riker for three husbands who may or may not be rich...
I'll just end by saying: what the fuck was that? It was some confused, xenophobic pile of rubbish is what it was. It wasn't 100% garage but all the shit made the parts that were acceptable reek too.

SPN Tag Game
I saw this and decided to do it even though I was never tagged for it. But I said fuck it because I can do and post whatever I want.Â
Itâs a Supernatural Game and everything is under the cut so I donât have to bother you guys with thisÂ
This may contain spoilers for the whole series.
1. What season did you start watching Supernatural? Somewhere around Season 10, maybe. I know, I was very late in the game but When Supernatural started, I was 8 years old and my mom would never let me watch that.Â
2. Who was the first character you fell in love with? Dean, of fucking course.Â
3. Who was a character that you hated at first but grew to love? Crowley. I didnât like him at first but as the show progressed, I grew to love that British Demon.Â
4. Which character would you most want to be in a long-term relationship with? Dean Winchester. There would never be a boring day with that man.Â
5. If you could go on just one date with one character, which one would you choose? Castiel. I feel like I would have such an interesting night with that Angel. Especially the earlier version of Cas when he didnât know anything about anything.Â
6. What would you do on the date? I would probably take him bowling, go eat some diner, walk around the town we were in at the time and just enjoy being with him.Â
7. Which character would you most want to be like? I would love to be like Charlie. She was amazing and nerdy, not to mention strong and confident in her own ways. I love and miss that girl.Â
8. Which character would you most like to see brought back from the dead? Bobby, hands down. I hate that he was killed off like tat and I know itâs been a while since weâve seen him in the real world, I would just like to have him back as the Bobby we know.
9. Which character would you most like to punch? Meg 2.0. I hated that bitch and her voice made me cringe all the damn time. She made me want to claw my ears off so I didnât have to hear her voice.Â
10. Who is your absolute favorite character? Dean, of course.Â
11. Which âBig Badâ do you think was the worst? Metatron. I hated him, that storyline, and the way they planed it all out. He was like an annoying kid who just wouldnât go away no matter how hard you tried to get rid of him.Â
12. Which character are you most like? Iâm most like Cas, probably. I donât know what the fuck Iâm doing half the timeÂ
13. What death hit you the hardest? If Iâm being totally honest, none have made me cry. This show lives on the characterâs they kill so Iâm not at all surprised when they kill off another character. But the one where I couldnât stop thinking of was Castiel. My poor Angel baby.Â
14. What season finale hit you the hardest? Iâm going to go back to the beginning and say Season 3 finale. Dean being in hell made my heart break.Â
15. What are your ten all-time favorite episodes? Season 11, episode 8 âJust My Imaginationâ Season 2, episode 1 âIn My Time Of Dyingâ (and the hardest episode I have had to write) Season 11, episode 20 âDonât Call Me Shurleyâ Season 10, episode 5 âFan Fictionâ Season 3, episode 11 âMystery Spotâ (I canât wait to write this one) Season 5, episode 10 âAbandon All Hopeâ Season 5, episode 8 âChanging Channelsâ Season 4, episode 1 âLazarus Risingâ Season 6, episode 15 âThe French Mistakeâ Season 3, episode 8 âItâs A Very Supernatural Christmasâ
16. Whatâs been your favorite season? They all mash up in my head so I couldnât answer this one.Â
17. Who is your favorite angel? Gabriel
18. Whoâs your favorite demon? Ruby 1.0
19. Whoâs your favorite evil character? Either Bela or Abaddon
20. Do you have any Supernatural ships? No, that isnât my thing but if I had to chose one, it would be Sam and Eileen even though they were never together in the show.Â
21. Whoâs your favorite supporting actor? Kim Rhodes as Jody Mills.
22. Whatâs your favorite quote from the show? "Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cake hole.â
23. If you could cast one famous actor in an episode of SPN, who would you chose? Ian Somerhalder
24. If you could write your own episode, what kind of creature would you like to see included? I would love to see them work with mermaids. I know they used one once for âIn My Imaginationâ but I would love to see them on a ship to lure one out and have this battle on sea as she tried to seduce one of the brothers.Â
25. Whoâs your favorite girl that Deanâs hooked up with? I donât have an answer for this one. Not because I donât like seeing Dean with any woman but because I didnât like the girls that ended up with him. Plus, most of them were one night stands anyways.
26. Whoâs your favorite girl that Samâs hooked up with? Sarah from Season 1 episode 19. Even though they only had a kiss, I loved them together.Â
27. What are some of your favorite convention moments? Iâve never been to one before and I donât usually watch those videos so I couldnât tell you.Â
28. If you were going to guest star (or be a recurring guest star) on SPN, how would you want your character described? Part of my wants her to be my alter ego: bad ass, will kick your ass if you mess with me or anyone I love, and can fight like no oneâs business. But the other part of me wants it to be me. I am the shy girl who isnât confident, has never shot a gun, loves to be alone and tries to stay out of people's way a lot. They donât have that many characters like that.Â
29. What do you hope to see in the next season? I would love to see Bobby or maybe even Jo or Charlie back but I know that wonât happen. But, I never know.Â
30.-40. If you had to chooseâŠ
Bobby or John? Bobby, I didnât like John
Bela or Ruby? Bela. She was better than both Rubyâs put together.Â
Jess or Madison? Jessica.Â
Jo or Lisa? Jo, I hated Lisa with all my fucking heart,Â
Charlie or Kevin? Charlie.Â
Balthazar or Ash? Ash, he was awesome and hilarious.Â
Cas or Crowley? Castiel.Â
Ben or Claire? Claire. Fuck Ben because he was just a character waiting to be taken off the show. I saw potential in Claire but not Ben.Â
Jody or Donna? Jody because I love that sheâs like a mother figure to Sam and Dean. I love Donna but I love Jody more
Sam or Dean? Dean. Iâm not the queen of Samâs ass, you know.Â
@notnaturalanahi @jarpadandjensenaremyheroes @kdfrqqg I know this isnât a lot but I am so fucking tired after a 12 hour shift that I donât want to tag anymore.

âLayersâ Character MemeÂ
LAYER ONE : THE OUTSIDE
Name: Charles Harris Wilson Charon
Eye Color: Bright blue
Hair Style/Color: He inherited the same ginger-red as Martha. Likes keeping it short, but canât manage to cut it often enough for it to be as neat as heâd like. Habitually tries to finger-comb it over at intervals. Post-ghoulification, just doesnât care. Touching it might lose him the last of it.
Height: 6âČ4âł (+ - I havenât completely nailed it down, but heâs about a foot taller than LW. Mine was female and I pictured her being fairly small, so I tacked a foot onto that, but I donât think the male models are much taller. He could be anything up to 7âł depending on how you view your LW?!)
Clothing Style: Provided he has a choice, he likes pre-war casual - going on game options only, parkstroller or spring - but the red shade is a bit much, switch it out for something lighter. Heâs awkward in that he doesnât like short sleeved shirts but he doesnât like long either, so he has to roll long ones to the exact right place. Post-programming, he doesnât even entertain the notion of casual clothing. Always armored, light enough not to weigh him down (his agility is already pretty poor).Â
Best Physical Feature: Probably his eyes. Which backfires pretty spectacularly when theyâre the only thing he retains in ghoul form and they become creepy and too-real compared to the rest of him. He used to have a nice smile, but it was the rarity of it more than anything. It felt odd to smile - when he was surrounded by misery - even when it was his natural reaction to someone or something, so he had a habit of clenching his back teeth and trying to suppress it. The result was a kind of reluctant, delayed half-smile that made him look shy, and a certain type of lady liked that.
LAYER TWO: THE INSIDE
Fears: Younger: Losing his family or something happening to them, losing his own identity after he was bought by them. Older: Nothing - heâs not allowed to be afraid of things, it might impair his usefulness.
Guilty Pleasure: Younger: Stealing smokes from dead people. Slightly less guilty if theyâre slavers. Older: None. Still does that, but no longer guilty. Every selfish thought he has produces a faint sense of guilt. Vague, fleeting thoughts of his own preferences, that kind of thing.
Biggest Pet Peeve[s]: Younger: More like an intense hatred; slavers pushing around people weaker than them, which he took to be women, children and the elderly. He got his ass kicked more than once trying to step in for them. Older: Employers who donât know how to watch their own asses. He can only do so much; heâs one ghoul, not your guardian angel.
Ambition for the Future: Younger: Escape somehow, free his fellow slaves, clear out Paradise Falls so no one else ever gets taken there. After that, he never intended to go home. Fuzzy memories of cannibalism and incest no longer seem part and parcel of living. Heâd rather go find his own home. Older: Haha, thatâs funny.
LAYER THREE: THOUGHTS
First Thoughts Waking Up: Younger:Â âCollarâs still there.â Older:Â âIs [Employer Name] still alive?â
What They Think About the Most: Everyone else. This is pretty consistent. He canât be called a Mom Friend at any point, but he has a natural inclination to look after anyone who needs it. Yâknow... a real man protects his family, and all.
What They Think About Before Bed: Younger: Heâs probably been worked to instant unconsciousness. Older: After the security of the area, his thoughts wander as far as they can. Sometimes he tries to count his employers backwards, hoping heâll break through that strange barrier he senses somewhere in the past. Why doesnât he remember anyone before that?
What They Think Their Best Quality Is: Younger: He knows heâs a grounding influence. Heâs good at projecting a calm aura. Older: His shotgun.
LAYER FOUR: WHATâS BETTER?
Single or Group Dates: Group dates sound fun. That takes off a lot of pressure and seriousness; and itâd be nice for a girl to have another girl to talk to, right? Maybe single dates would be better after something like that. Of course, older... neither.Â
To be Loved or Respected: Younger: Both. Older: Respected.
Beauty or Brains: Younger: Heâd like to say âbrainsâ but heâs an absolute sucker for pretty girls. As long as they can tell a mole rat from a deathclaw, theyâre probably good. Older: Definitely brains. Even if anything else werenât hypocritical, heâs a lot more relaxed around someone who wonât get themselves killed.
Dogs or Cats: Dogs. There arenât supposed to be any cats left, Todd.
LAYER FIVE: DO YOU?
Lie: Younger: Rarely. Older: Never.
Believe in Yourself: Younger: Oddly, yes. Heâs confident for someone with a bomb round his neck. Older: Yes, but in a much more practical sense.
Believe in Love: Younger: Whatâs not to believe in? Older: ...Â
Want Someone: Younger: Eventually. Heâs a little commitment-phobic, but I think thatâs understandable when you were engaged to your sister as a kid. Older: Pointless to think about. No.
LAYER SIX: EVER?
Been on Stage: No.
Done Drugs: Younger: (sheepish fidgeting, awkward smile)Â Â Older: Yeah, occasionally - but he almost sees it as medicinal. Firefight taking too long? Employer tiring out? Psycho. Finish it.
Changed Who You Were to Fit In: Never - never been able to. If he were, he might have seemed less like a vault tec ad come to life in his younger years.
LAYER SEVEN: AGE
DOB: Between 17 and 30+ depending on timeline point. I talked to Nimriel about this yesterday - I think averages out about 26, assuming weâre post-F3. But he stops counting then, since heâs technically immortal and never any closer to death. The only thing that changes anymore is the amount of unmarked skin he has left.
How Old Will You Be: ^^^
Age You Lost Your Virginity: 15. Heâs a little ashamed of that now.
Does Age Matter: For what? For friends, not at all. For proper, long term partners, definitely. Heâs a little shallow and wonât go much older than he is, but neither will he go much younger, and by âmuchâ, I mean she has to be a grown woman with the maturity to match. Heâs not interested in teenagers, theyâre still kids, and kids shouldnât think about that stuff. Obviously, older!Charon doesnât give a fried fuck, his employers could be 19 or 90 as long as theyâre breathing.
LAYER EIGHT: IN A BOY OR GIRL
Best Personality: Younger: Genuine, kind, caring, monogamous. Seriously, he has the out of touch mindset of a 1950s poster for a new oven, besides the intense misogyny. That said, he still thinks women have a certain sort of role; he sees it as his job to keep her and the children safe, and hers to take care of the home they put together from within. That means more making sure everyone eats more than polishing the silverware, though. It makes a little more sense in a Fallout setting; having one of them focused on defence and one on offence is pretty logical. He wouldnât want anyone he loved to be the one getting covered in raider blood. Older: This isnât really something that ever crosses his mind, but he does admire people with a purpose.
Best Eye Color: Doesnât matter. Heâs weak.Â
Best Hair Color: Again. Weak. But he likes blondes.
Best thing to do With a Partner: Younger: Never really had one for any extended period of time, if you catch my drift - but heâd probably like to travel with them. He loves seeing new places, but itâd be nicer if he wasnât alone. Older: Survive?
LAYER NINE: FINISH THE SENTENCE
I love: [no words - just an image of an empty landscape view and the sun shining on it. seems to be the area surrounding Paradise Falls, but not viewed through a fence]
I feel: Younger:Â âLucky.â (I know. But itâs the truth. Heâs constantly thankful to still be alive after every owner and every fight). Older:Â â...â
I hide: Younger: His despair. Thatâs not something others ought to see, especially if it might affect them. Heâs not as certain as he seems about being free one day. Older: Nothing, but he has nothing to hide, really. Just ask.
I miss: Younger: ??? How can he miss anything, when he never had it? Older: He has a vague sense that he used to be capable of a higher level of empathy and independence, but heâs not sure what that feeling is based on. If itâs true, it would be nice.
I wish: Younger:Â âI could get out of here.â Older:Â â...â
#borrowed from saltyspitfire!!!#take it from me if you want#I dont know that I should tag people its not really a tag meme but--#about;;#jesus#luckcrowned#i now cant stop picturing younger him and adolin#adolin: why dont they throw rocks at you#charlie: i hit on them one at a time dude....................#also i realised too late i share part of his name#not that i can do much about that#but i hope no one thinks its any kind of self insert because#@ everyone . im whitechapel. thats me. tired british and mechanical

Supernatural
So I saw this at @mayalaenâ (who got it from @intotheruins) and it looked like fun so I decided to play too.
Itâs not painfully obvious at all who my favorit character is!
1. What season did you start watching supernatural? - I had rented season one disk one twice (and loved it both times) before I was awesome enough to give me sister Season 1 for Christmas (and regretted it ever since because 1. It took over my life and 2. I gave it away instead of keeping for my self.) Season two had just started airing( I think, it was forever ago) at that time so I was a little late to the party but not that late.
2. Who was the first character you fell in love with? - Dean, and I have stayed in love with him ever since but I love most of the other once to, just not like Dean.
3. Who was a character that you hated at first but grew to love? - Meg probably, I hated her in the beginning because of the way she treated Dean.
4. Which character would you most want to be in a long-term relationship with? - The first name that popped into my head was Dean, but less face it, he has issues so I'm not sure he would be the best choices. So I would like to go back in time and pick season one Dean or young John Winchester.
5. If you could go on just one date with one character, which one would you choose? - If we take away the obvious choice (Dean) I would say Charlie.
6. What would you do on the date? - Just geek out over everything!
7. Which character would you most want to be like? - Charlie, because she is just awesome!
8. Which character would you most like to see brought back from the dead? - (aside from Castiel) Charlie, Benny, Bobby, John. If we are talking bad guys: Crowley and Yellow eyes.
9. Which character would you most like to punch? - There are so many! A side from all the bad guys (Dick, Metatron, Uriel, Zachariah, most of the Campbells, Gordon...) I would say I would like to punch Sam and Dean every once in a while. More Sam then Dean. But when they are fighting or keeping secrets for some lame reason, I would like to hit them.
10. Who is your absolute favorite character? - Aside form Dean? Charlie, Benny and Cas.
11. Which âbig badâ do you think was the worst? - Crap, I have to choose? Lucifer probably wins in all over bad, but I think Azazel has taken the most from the boys. Lilith also gets a point for just creeping me out.
12. Which character are you most like? - I like to say Charlie because I'm passionate about the things I love but my friends and family might say I'm more of a Becky.
13. What death hit you the hardest? - Bobby, I was not expecting his death and I will never forgive them for killing him. Charlie was a close second.
14. What season finale hit you the hardest? - One, not only did I have to worry about if someone died but I was terrified that the Impala was ruined and would not come back. After that season two or three were I had to worry about Dean dying (plus Sam's death in season two was really sad).
15. What are your ten all-time favorite episodes? - I wonder if this is how my mother feels when I ask her which of her children she loves the most. If I have to choose (Not necessarily in the right order): 1. Pilot 2. Wendigo 3. Phantom Traveler 5. Dead in the Water 6. Devil's Trap 7. Tall Tales 8. What Is and What Should Never Be 9. Yellow Fever 10 Lazarus Rising Honourable mention: Bad Day at Black Rock, Lazarus Rising ,In the Beginning, The French Mistake, The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo, First Born and Regarding Dean.
16. Whatâs been your favorite season? - I absolutely love the first one. Nine is a close second.
17. Who is your favorite angel? - Castiel, Gabriel after him.
18. Whoâs your favorite demon? - Crowley, yellow eyes and Cain.
19. Whoâs your favorite evil character? - Old yellow eyes will always hold a special place in my heart. Close second is young Lilith, who was just creepy which I loved.
20. Do you have any supernatural ships? - Dean/Cas and Dean/Benny can't choose which one I like more.
21. Whoâs your favorite supporting actor? - Ty, Felicia and Kim.
22. Whatâs your favorite quote from the show? - Hunting things, saving people, the family business. Then Driver picks the music, shotgun keeps his pie shut and finally That was scary!
23. If you could cast one famous actor in an episode of spn, who would you chose? - Ryan Reynolds because I love him and I think he would fit well in with those jokers. After him I would love to see Danneel Ackles as some super evil character that would go more after Dean then all the others.
24. If you could write your own episode, what kind of creature would you like to see included? - I would like something to do with Hear/See/Say No Evil, so a witch maybe?
25. Whoâs your favorite girl that deanâs hooked up with? - Does the Impala count? No? Fine, Lisa probably since Dean was so happy with her being a yoga instructor.
26. Whoâs your favorite girl that samâs hooked up with? - Jessica.
27. What are some of your favorite convention moments? - The whole Jensen/Misha panels at JIB 2015 and that time Ty was trying to get Jensen to laugh.
28. If you were going to guest star (or be a recurring guest star) on spn, how would you want your character described? - I totally agree with both  @intotheruins and @mayalaen  that Iâd love to be a completely insane villain but I would add that Dean would kill me in the end. Plus I would want to steal the Impala at least once!
29. What do you hope to see in the next season? - I would like to see more Purgatory and more hunt of the week.
30.-40. If you had to choose⊠Bobby or John? Bobby Bela or Ruby? Cassidy's Ruby! (Bela nr 2 and Gen's Ruby nr.3)I loved Cassidy's Ruby attitude so I was a little disappointed when Gen's Ruby didn't have quite the same attitude (Love Gen though and I admire that she wanted to make the character hers, I just missed the old one) Jess or Madison? Jess Jo or Lisa? Jo Charlie or Kevin? Charlie Balthazar or Ash? Tough one but Ash. Cas or Crowley? Cas, but I want, no NEED, a Summer of Love with Crowley every once in a while. Ben or Claire? Ben Jody or Donna? Jody Sam or Dean? If I didn't say Dean I would be lying.
Tagging: @trickstermoose67â and @lotrspnfangirlâ
Iâm tagging my betas because Iâd really love to know all your answers, but thereâs no obligation to play, and if anybody else wants to play and I havenât tagged you, please consider yourself tagged :)

This Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Yearâs Eve, Twelfth Night, Valentineâs Day, Mardi Gras, St. Paddyâs Day, and every day henceforth. Just do what you do. And Iâm choosing option B â Tom Morello âą For years, I worked seven-day weeks, through birthdays and most public holidays, Christmases and New Yearâs Eves included. I resolve to stop complaining. â Leonard Bernstein âą Games were moved to New Yearâs Eve as part of a plan by college football executives where they want to create a tradition of watching football on New Yearâs Eve. â Audie Cornish âą Glory to God in highest heaven, Who unto man His Son hath given; While angels sing with tender mirth, A glad new year to all the earth. â Martin Luther âą God, do I hate my little fat tits. You ever pinch your little meat tits and wish you were dead? You ever just stand naked in the mirror. âYou little fat-titted mediocre failure!â You ever do that for 3 hours on New Yearâs Eve. â Jim Norton âą Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account. â Oscar Wilde âą He who breaks a resolution is a weakling; He who makes one is a fool. â Farquhar McGillivray Knowles âą Hope Smiles from the threshold of the year to come, Whispering âit will be happierâ. â Alfred Lord Tennyson âą I always work on New Yearâs Eve, no matter what. â Debbie Harry âą I donât even drink! So I donât touch booze â Iâm always the designated driver. â Kim Kardashian âą I get myself a gig somewhere, whether itâs in a club, whether itâs in a bar, it doesnât matter, and I just work on New Yearâs Eve because I always feel itâs very symbolic for me for the next year, for the new year. â Debbie Harry âą I had a terrible fight with my wife on New Yearâs Eve. She called me a procrastinator. So I finished addressing the Christmas cards and left. â Robert Orben âą I hate New Yearâs Eve. One more chance to remember that you havenât yet done what you wanted. And to pretend it doesnât matter. â Gregory Maguire âą I have no way of knowing how people really feel, but the vast majority of those I meet couldnât be nicer. Every once in a while someone barks at me. My New Yearâs resolution is not to bark back. â Tucker Carlson âą I have spent every New Yearâs Eve since 1992 in Lourdes. I spend the hour of my birth every year in the grotto. Itâs a place with meaning for me. â Paulo Coelho âą I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakesâŠyouâre Doing Something. â Neil Gaiman âą I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. Youâre doing things youâve never done before, and more importantly, youâre Doing Something. â Neil Gaiman âą I like to work on New Yearâs Eve. It has a nice spirit; a nice feel about it. If you are all about the âyear-endâ thing at all, then laughing with fellow human beings is a great way to start the new year. â Paula Poundstone âą I love watching âTwilight Zone.â New Yearâs Eve they do the marathon; I watch it every year. â Gerard Way âą I made no resolutions for the New Year. The habit of making plans, of criticizing, sanctioning and molding my life, is too much of a daily event for me. â Anais Nin âą I saw Ronnie Hawkins play near my hometown, Port Dover, Ontario, and I saw him play there on New Yearâs Eve and the following spring I booked myself to be his opening act on maybe five shows, and he hired me after the first night. â Rick Danko âą I think in terms of the dayâs resolutions, not the yearsâ. â Henry Moore âą I was a total nerd growing up. Iâd rather sit home and read a novel on New Yearâs Eve and say, âWow, I read the whole thing in one night!â That was my idea of a big time. â Beth Broderick âą I was at a New Yearâs Eve party, and someone asked me how was my year, and I said, âI honestly think 2011 was the best year of my entire life,â and I actually meant it. â Dave Grohl âą I wonât be going to any New Yearâs Eve parties because I think theyâre naff. No one over the age of 15 should bother going to parties. â Julie Burchill âą i would like to remind the management that the drinks are watered and the hat-check girl has syphilis and the band is composed of former ss monsters However since it is new yearâs eve and i have lip cancer i will place my paper hat on my concussion and dance â Leonard Cohen âą I would rather receive a Pap smear from Captain Hook than venture out on New Yearâs Eve. â Jen Lancaster âą I would say happy new year, but itâs not happy; itâs exactly the same as last year except colder. â Robert Clark âą If the age of the Earth were a calendar year and today were a breath before midnight on New Yearâs Eve, we showed up a scant fifteen minutes ago, and all of recorded history has blinked by in the last sixty seconds. Luckily for us, our planet-matesâthe fantastic meshwork of plants, animals, and microbesâhave been patiently perfecting their wares since March, an incredible 3.8 billion years since the first bacteria. âŠAfter 3.8 billion years of research and development, failures are fossils, and what surrounds us is the secret to survival. â Janine Benyus âą If you asked me for my New Year Resolution, it would be to find out who I am. â Cyril Cusack âą If you feel compelled to give a New Yearâs Eve party, donât invite people to arrive too early or theyâll go off the boil before midnight. â Jilly Cooper âą If you over plan New Yearâs Eve itâs going to be a disaster so you have to be alive to changes. â Cate Blanchett âą Iâm usually at home and in bed by 10 oâclock. I do not want to be out at anybodyâs New Yearâs Eve party. â Andre Leon Talley âą It goes Christmas, New Yearâs Eve, Valentineâs Day. Is that fair to anyone whoâs alone? These are all days you gotta be with someone. And if you didnât get around to killing yourself at Christmas or New Yearâs, boom! Thereâs Valentineâs Day. I think there should be one more after Valentineâs Day just called, âWho could love you?â â Laura Kightlinger âą It was February sixth: eight days until Valentineâs Day. I was dateless, as usual, deep in the vice grip of unrequited love. It was bad enough not having a boyfriend for New Yearâs Eve. Now I had to cope with Valentine datelessness, feeling consummate social pressure from every retailer in America who stuck hearts and cupids in their windows by January second to rub it in. â Joan Bauer âą Itâs hard to say what I meant by âas we know it.â Iâm not about to go up on a mountain on new yearâs eve and wait for the lightening to strike. â Hunter S. Thompson âą Iâve had some lovely extraordinary experiences on New Yearâs Eve. â Debbie Harry âą Let each new year find you a better person. â Benjamin Franklin âą Let our New Yearâs resolution be this: we will be there for one another as fellow members of humanity, in the finest sense of the word. â Goran Persson âą Let the dead Past bury its dead! â Henry Wadsworth Longfellow âą Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things you have always wanted to do but could not find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories. Vow not to make a promise you do not think you can keep. Walk tall, and smile more. You will look 10 years younger. Do not be afraid to say, I love you. Say it again. They are the sweetest words in the world. â Ann Landers âą Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things youâve always wanted to do but couldnât find the time. â Ann Landers âą Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobodyâs ever made before. Whatever youâre scared of doing, Do it. â Neil Gaiman âą Make New Yearâs goals. Dig within, and discover what you would like to have happen in your life this year. This helps you do your part. It is an affirmation that youâre interested in fully living life in the year to come. â Melody Beattie âą Make your mistakes, next year and forever. â Neil Gaiman âą Many years ago I resolved never to bother with New Yearâs resolutions, and Iâve stuck with it ever since. â Dave Beard âą May all your troubles last as long as your New Yearâs resolutions. â Joey Lauren Adams âą May the New Year bring you courage to break your resolutions early! â Aleister Crowley âą May the New Year bring you courage to break your resolutions early! My own plan is to swear off every kind of virtue, so that I triumph even when I fall! â Aleister Crowley âą Maybe this year, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives not looking for flaws, but looking for potential. â Ellen Goodman âą My look is always glitzy for New Yearâs Eve, even if I am at home. â Gloria Gaynor âą My New Yearâs Eve Toast: to all the devils, lusts, passions, greeds, envies, loves, hates, strange desires, enemies ghostly and real, the army of memories, with which I do battle â may they never give me peace. (New Yearâs Eve, 1947) â Patricia Highsmith âą My New Yearâs Eve is always 2 July, the night before my birthday. Thatâs the night I make my resolutions. And this year scares the life out of me, because no matter how successful, how good things appear, there is always a deep core of failure within me, although I am trying to deal with it. My biggest fear, this coming year, is that I will be waking up alone. It makes me wonder how many bodies will be fished out of the Thames, how many decaying corpses will be found in one-room flats. Iâm just being realistic. â Tracey Emin âą My New Yearâs resolution was to stop saying âYou go, girlâ to myself. â Zach Galifianakis âą My parents used to throw great New Yearâs Eve parties. They invited such an eclectic mix of showbiz people. All those cool people were always hanging out at our apartment. â Ben Stiller âą Never tell your resolution beforehand, or itâs twice as onerous a duty. â John Selden âą New Yearâs Day is every manâs birthday. â Charles Lamb âą New Yearâs Eve always terrifies me. â Charles Bukowski âą New Yearâs eve is like every other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted; and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights. â Hamilton Wright Mabie âą New Yearâs Eve, weâre going to be doing a concert with the Philadelphia Orchestra in Symphony Hall. It makes me feel good, because of all the people they could have had, they wanted me! We do have to do a little work with the rhythm section. â Barbara Cook âą New Yearâs Eve, where auld acquaintance be forgot. Unless, of course, those tests come back positive. â Jay Leno âą New Yearâs Eve. Itâs a promise of a night. Single, married or widowed, in love, loveless or lovelorn, we all leave our apartments and pick through snow in high heels, or descend subway stairs in tuxedos, lured to wherever weâre goingâwhether we know it or not, would deny it or notâby the kiss of a stranger. â Jardine Libaire âą New Yearâs is a harmless annual institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks, and friendly calls and humbug resolutions. â Mark Twain âą New Yearâs Resolution: To tolerate fools more gladly, provided this does not encourage them to take up more of my time. â James Agate âą Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual. â Mark Twain âą Now there are more overweight people in America than average-weight people. So overweight people are now average. Which means youâve met your New Yearâs resolution. â Jay Leno âą Of all sound of all bells⊠most solemn and touching is the peal which rings out the Old Year. â Charles Lamb âą On New Yearâs Eve he ould make a resolution to recover some his previous scepticism, but until then he would do as the Romans do, and smile at people even if he disapproved of them â Nick Hornby âą On New Yearâs Eve, my dear friend lost his battle with depression . . . Though he wasnât the first friend Iâve lost to suicide, I sure hope heâs the last. I wish I had the chance to go back and tell them what they meant to me. I wish I had the chance to beg them to seek help, to keep fighting. I wish they knew that they were surrounded by countless others who struggle on a daily basis. â Jared Padalecki âą One of the many reasons I love living in New York is that we get a front row seat to the innumerable thrills that take place here â from conventions and awards shows, to parades and U.N. assemblies. But my favorite New York tradition is the annual New Yearâs Eve ball-drop on Times Square. â Marlo Thomas âą One resolution I have made, and try always to keep, is this: âTo rise above little thingsâ. â John Burroughs âą Only sad sacks and conformists need things like no kiss on New Yearâs Eve to remind them to feel lonely. Theyâre as bad as the people who need St. Pattyâs Day as an excuse to get drunk or Halloween to wear slutty outfits. You can feel sorry for yourself and dress like a hooker all year round: Hallmark never needs to know. â Julie Klausner âą Ring out the false, ring in the true. â Alfred Lord Tennyson âą Ring out the old, ring in the new, Ring, happy bells, across the snow: The year is going, let him go; Ring out the false, ring in the true. â Alfred Lord Tennyson âą Shaving my head was a millennium ritual, to not let it pass as just another New Yearâs Eve. A lot has happened to me in the last couple of years, personally and spiritually. I wanted to mark it for myself. â Joan Jett âą So I started shoveling Bobâs driveway, which is a strange thing to do at a New Years Eve Party â Stephen Chbosky âą So thatâs my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobodyâs ever made before. Donât freeze, donât stop, donât worry that it isnât good enough, or it isnât perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life. â Neil Gaiman âą Spend your free time the way you like, not the way you think youâre supposed to. Stay home on New Yearâs Eve if thatâs what makes you happy. Skip the committee meeting. Cross the street to avoid making aimless chitchat with random acquaintances. Read. Cook. Run. Write a story. Make a deal with yourself that youâll attend a set number of social events in exchange for not feeling guilty when you beg off. â Susan Cain âą St. Patrickâs Day is the fourth biggest drinking day in America. Itâs not the biggest. Itâs right behind New Yearâs Eve, Fourth of July, or any Secret Service party. â David Letterman âą The feeling I have reminds me of New Yearâs Eve, when the countdown is coming and Iâm not quite sure whether to grab my camera or just live in the moment. Usually I grab the camera and later regret it when the picture doesnât turn out. Then I feel enormously let down and think to myself that the night would have been more fun if it didnât mean quite so much, if I werenât forced to analyze where Iâve been and where Iâm going. â Emily Giffin âą The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. â Eleanor Roosevelt âą The last thing I stole was a box of Coca Cola from a parked truck in Adelaide. Itâs just another New Yearâs Eve, Another night like all the rest. â Barry Manilow âą What you do for Jewish New Year is you go down to Times Square. Itâs a lot quieter than the regular New Year. This Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Yearâs Eve, Twelfth Night, Valentineâs Day, Mardi Gras, St. Paddyâs Day, and every day henceforth. Just do what you do. You ever pinch your little meat tits and wish you were dead? I wish they knew that they were surrounded by countless others who struggle on a daily basis. â Jared Padalecki âą One of the many reasons I love living in New York is that we get a front row seat to the innumerable thrills that take place here â from conventions and awards shows, to parades and U.N. assemblies. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective. â Gilbert K. Chesterton âą The only way to spend New Yearâs Eve is either quietly with friends or in a brothel. Otherwise when the evening ends and people pair off, someone is bound to be left in tears. â W. H. Auden âą The proper behavior all through the holiday season is to be drunk. This drunkenness culminates on New Yearâs Eve, when you get so drunk you kiss the person youâre married to. â P. J. OâRourke âą This leg will be known as Christmas, and this leg will be known as New Yearâs Eve! My first show that paid more than $10,000 was in a gay club on New Yearâs Eve in San Francisco. â Queen Latifah âą To shut the door at the end of the workday, which does not spill over into evening. To throw away books after reading them so theydonât have to be dusted. To go through boxes on New Yearâs Eve and throw out half of what is inside. Jackson Brown, Jr. âą We spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our livesâŠnot looking for flaws, but for potential. â Ellen Goodman âą Weâve made mistakes, But weâve made good friends too. Take my advice the countdown should be shared with someone, or itâs just another set of numbers passing you by. â E. A. Bucchianeri âą Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficultiesâ.- Helen Keller, American author, political activist, and lecturer âLet our New Yearâs resolution be this: we will be there for one another as fellow members of humanity, in the finest sense of the word. â Goran Persson Your time is limited, so donât waste it living someone elseâs life. -Steve Jobs âą Youth is when youâre allowed to stay up late on New Yearâs Eve. 20 Fantasy Hockey Thoughts
Every Sunday, we'll share 20 Fantasy Thoughts from our writers at DobberHockey. These thoughts are curated from the past week's âDaily Ramblingsâ.
Writers: Michael Clifford, Ian Gooding, Cam Robinson, and Dobber
 1. All Iâve wanted from Anaheim for basically a year now is a line of Rickard Rakell, Ryan Getzlaf, and Ondrej Kase. They wouldnât do it (much) last year with Corey Perry around, and this yearâs been difficult on the team injury-wise. Kase started the season out of the lineup and lately itâs been Rakell. We have no firm timeline on Rakellâs return, but when he does, I would like to see these three together.
Over the last few seasons, when those three have skated together, theyâve been utterly dominant, putting up an expected goal share near 60 percent (per Corsica). Having those three together would allow the checking line of Andrew Cogliano â Ryan Kesler â Jakob Silfverberg to stay together while giving Adam Henrique a scoring winger when Perry returns. Something like this:
Rakell â Getzlaf â Kase Pontus Aberg â Henrique â Perry Cogliano â Kesler â Silfverberg
Not bad?
Of course, I say all this as a greedy owner of Kase in all my leagues. Please, Santa. (dec14)
 2. One trend Iâm really enjoying is the fact that there are a large group of high-scoring defensemen. Sure, weâre not going to have five or six reach 80 points, but right now itâs pretty fun seeing Morgan Rielly, Thomas Chabot, John Carlson, and Mark Giordano each with 30 points or more and each with more points than games played.
Thirteen defensemen with at least 16 games played have a points-per-game average of 0.75 or higher. Eight (50 or more games) did so last year, with the highest mark being 0.87. That was Erik Karlsson, who is not among this yearâs 12, but I think will be. Karlsson has 14 points in his last 15 contests. (dec10)
 3. I would like to see Dallas trade for Jeff Carter. It probably wonât be long until the fire sale in Los Angeles begins and Carterâs name is floated constantly. I know heâs off to a bad start this year but the same could be said about his entire team. Heâs getting to the latter stages of his NHL career but his cap hit is very reasonable at just over $5.2-million and the Stars have both Jason Spezza and Marc Methot coming off the books after this season. It would give them a very good second-line center that the team hasnât really had in three years. They could then justifiably move one of Jamie Benn or Alex Radulov to the second line, giving them a balanced top-six for the first time in, well, a really long time. (dec14)
 4. Iâve been thinking that as much as fantasy hockey owners have drooled at Colton Paraykoâs size and shot, maybe itâs time to accept that what weâve seen from Parayko is what weâre going to get, and nothing more. For all that perceived upside, the big St. Louis defenseman has never scored more than 35 points in a season, although heâs been remarkably consistent around that total over the past three seasons.
So, Parayko scoring two goals while logging 28 minutes on Friday isnât great timing for me to make my point. Since Alex Pietrangeloâs injury, Parayko has averaged nearly 26 minutes per game, even though he has scored only one point (another goal) over the previous five games that Petro has been out of the lineup. Both the skills and the opportunity are there, even if the Blues are as much of a mess as any team right now. Turning from fantasy to reality, I could see NHL teams engaging in a serious bidding war for Paraykoâs services. (dec15)
 5. If Flyersâ coach Dave Hakstol does lose his job, he can rightfully say that the teamâs goaltending situation didnât do him any favors.
Before you get excited about a Carter Hart callup, note that he is still getting used to the AHL (2.98 GAA, .903 SV%). For the sake of Hartâs long-term confidence, itâs probably best not to bring him into a situation as volatile as what the Flyers have going on.
 6. Hakstol wonât be able to say heâs been able to rely on Shayne Gostisbehere, either. Ghost simply isnât going to come anywhere close to his 65 points from last season. For a player who fires a ton of shots from the point on the power play, he has completely dried up with no goals over his last 15 games and counting. His minus-18 further deflates his value.
In case youâre thinking that this is a perfect opportunity to try Ivan Provorov on PP1, he has struggled himself this season as well (11 points in 31 games, a similar total to Ghost). Weâll have to keep an eye on how a potential coaching change could affect the fantasy values of these two blueliners. It canât really make things any worse, as the Flyers have just one power-play goal over their last 11 games. (dec16)
 7. If your league is one of the few that counts shorthanded goals, Mark Giordano will have helped you win that category this week. Gio scored his second shorthanded goal in as many games on Saturday, giving him a four-game point streak in which he has lit it up for nine points.
After back-to-back sub-40-point seasons, Giordanoâs point-per-game performance must count as one of the seasonâs biggest surprises. The Flamesâ offense may have something to do with that, as the teamâs offense has improved from 2.63 GF/GP last season to 3.48 GF/GP this season. (dec16)
 8. Alex Ovechkin didnât record another hat trick on Saturday. But he did score another goal (his 29th) while taking eight shots on goal and logging 25:34 in ice time. Heâs currently riding a six-game goal-scoring streak, plus a 14-game point run. (dec16)
If you read the latest 31 Thoughts or listened to the 31 Thoughts Podcast, you probably have an opinion on whether Ovechkin can eventually catch Wayne Gretzky in career goals. Those who think he can are probably in the minority, but at the very least we can conclude that at age 33 there hasnât been much slowdown. For now, we can safely assume that another 50-goal season is well within reach, while he continues to pile on the goals, shots, and hits. (dec15)
 9. Sure, we know that Connor McDavid will do his thing, like he did on Friday (two goals and an assist). Same with Leon Draisaitl (three assists). But, with another goal on Friday, Alex Chiasson now has a career-high 14 goals with five points over his last five games riding shotgun on this top line. He is currently benefiting from a 30 percent shooting accuracy. The goals may eventually turn into assists should he stay on this line, though. Keep in mind heâs only 15 percent owned while playing on a line with the NHLâs best player. (dec15)
 10. Ryan Hartman should get to 20 goals this year, which is a quietly nice season for a middle-six winger. For fantasy hockey, though, the Predatorsâ forward is not hitting nearly as much as he has in previous seasons, having been credited with just 26 in 33 games. Each of his first two seasons saw him cruise past 110 hits. That doesnât seem feasible this year. If the trade-off is more scoring, though, Iâm sure fantasy owners will take it. (dec14)
JOIN THE ACTION: Rick Roos is rolling again with his annual Cage Match Tournament. Check out the forums to vote for âThe New Normalâ edition.
11. I was very high on Arizonaâa Clayton Keller coming into the year and itâs not quite panning out. I mean, itâs all relative, right. Heâs on a 61-point pace right now. Realistically, for a 20-year old, thatâs a good season. I thought itâd be a lot higher, though. I guess heâs only one hot streak away from being a 70-point pace player; just unfortunate we havenât really seen it yet. (dec14)
 12. Itâs a small thing, but I hope Habsâ Charles Hudon gets another crack with the Canadiens. Heâs been sitting in the press box an awful lot for them lately. Iâve reached the point with him where Iâve accepted that he probably wonât be more than a third/fourth-line winger, but I think heâs a better third/fourth line winger than some of the players the Habs trot out regularly.
Maybe he doesnât have the punchiness of Nicolas Deslauriers, or the âje ne sais quoiâ of Kenny Agostino (literally, I donât know what they see in him), but Hudon could be a guy you can get 10-15 goals from on the fourth line with secondary power play time. That has value. More value than, say, 10 fights. (dec14)
 13. Canucksâ Brock Boeser has missed some games but heâs played 22 and has scored just one power play goal. Allow me to repeat: the guy who scored 12 PP goals in his first 71 career games has one through 22 outings this season. His shot rates are consistent with his prior performances. So, whatâs the deal?
Boeser has 11 goals and 19 points in 22 games. Heâs landing three shots on goal per game and the data about shots and shot location on the PP seem normal. In one-year leagues, maybe itâs worth looking to see if the Boeser owner is seeing the shine wear off a little bit. Not that itâs a buy-low situation, but a chance to buy cheaper than he should be. Just a thought. (dec13)
Resting his groin injury for most of November has turned out to be beneficial for Boeser. With another goal on Saturday, Boeser now has five goals over his last four games and appears to be back to last season's form. (dec16)
 14. Rangersâ Mika Zibanejad is currently on pace for 71 points, which would smash is previous career-best of 51, the only time heâs cracked 50 points. Heâs on that pace despite shooting 10.3 percent, the lowest for him in any season since the lockout year. Over those five seasons, he averaged 12 percent. Why the drop in shooting percentage? The power play.
This may surprise a few people, but Zibanejad had 14 power play goals last year and heâs not on pace for even half that many this year with just three so far. I expect there will be a huge power play scoring binge coming over the final 50 games. As in, donât be surprised if he scores 10-plus PP goals the rest of the season.
Itâs another buying opportunity. Zibanejadâs production is still pretty good, and he is averaging over three shots on goal per game. It never hurts to ask the Zibanejad owner in your league what it might take to acquire him. (dec13)
 15. Even though Daniel Sprong is only 21, it seemed like we had waited an eternity for him to find his way onto the Pittsburgh Penguins and make an impact playing on a line with one or more of their big guns. While that wonât happen, it doesnât mean that itâs time to give up on him. Now in a situation with a team that really needs him, Sprong has scored three goals in five games as a Duck, including both of the teamâs goals on Saturday. His ice time is also up over six minutes per game to 14 minutes, which tells you how little he had been playing in Pittsburgh. (dec16)
 16. The requisite Elias Pettersson tidbit. Heading into last Tuesdayâs contests, Pettersson had 15 goals and 30 points in 26 career games. Hereâs a look at some other current stars and their totals after 26 contests:
Evgeni Malkin â 30 Alex Ovechkin â 29 Sidney Crosby â 28 Connor McDavid â 28 Patrick Kane â 27 Patrik Laine â 21 Johnny Gaudreau â 20 Auston Matthews â 20
(dec12)
 17. It was reported that Ryan Miller will miss six weeks with a sprained MCL. The Ducks wasted no time in claiming Chad Johnson off of waivers from St Louis to provide some support to John Gibson.
Jordan Binnington is the new back-up in St. Louis. The 25-year-old has a single NHL game on his resume. He managed to wrestle the starting gig in the American league from Ville Husso, who has been projected as the up-and-comer for a few seasons. With the way the Blues are playing these days, it is conceivable that Binnington sees some ice, but the results will likely be very muted. (dec12)
 18. I had an interesting conversation a few weeks ago about defensemen with a couple friends. Basically, how many defensemen can we rely upon in fantasy? I donât mean defensemen you can trot out for 200 blocked shots or whatever. I mean defensemen from whom you know youâre going to get 24 minutes a game, a couple shots, and top PP minutes. Not very many.
For that reason, I generally treat the bottom of my defense rosters in non-dynasty leagues as a revolving door. I have staples, of course, like Roman Josi or Victor Hedman, but once we get to guys like Shea Theodore, Mikhail Sergachev, or Jake Muzzin, they could find themselves on and off my roster two or three times a year. Itâs about dumping them at their highest value and looking for the next guy, ad infinitum. (dec11)
               19. Trading away  John Carlson just because heâs due to regress a bit isnât the point here. The point is to recognize an asset whose value will decline over the next four months compared to present-day value in order to fill holes elsewhere on a roster with a package that should return more value over those four months.
Again, keep in mind that Iâm not saying to run out and trade Carlson. What Iâm saying is to not expect him to be a top-3 fantasy defenseman as heâs been so far. If you can trade him as a top-3 defenseman and get back comparable future value to help fill gaps on your roster, then you do it. Itâs all about the needs and the return, not necessarily about the player himself. (dec11)
 20. It appears I kick off Ramblings every week with goalie talk, but itâs the most important position in fantasy hockey and itâs produced some of the weirdest results so far. Which makes it the most frustrating â and itâs a frustrating position during the best of times. In case you missed it other weeks, my mantra has been âfollow the contractâ, the starter will eventually get his starts back almost always unless he truly, truly sucks.
But Bluesâ Jake Allen is the one starter whose terrible start I have the least faith in turning around. And for a bit there, it looked as though even he was rebounding.
Allen is signed for another two years at $4.35 million per, heâs a high draft pick (34th overall), and heâs an organization-developed talent. Heâs the Golden Boy. I say this because he got 83 starts over the last 14 and a half months and despite sucking, he still gets thrown out there. (dec10)
 Have a good week, folks!!

Oh No, We Suck Again- Ten Takeaways from Vikings 23, Eagles 21
I was driving home from The Station Taphouse in Doylestown last night listening to 97.5 the Fanatic after the Eaglesâ 23-21 loss.
A caller, apparently on hold for 31 minutes, finally got on the air, proclaimed he was âtoo drunk to talk,â apologized to Joe Tordy and Joe Staszak, then hung up.
Similar to the Philadelphia Eagles, this guy wasted a good 30 minutes, tried to rally, and ultimately fell short.
Same story, different day for the Birds, who again found a way to underwhelm and disappoint, this time on home turf against a beatable team. They made mistakes, committed penalties, failed to finish drives, and couldnât get a defensive stop when it mattered most.
Itâs hard to find a single area where this team has not regressed since last season. The offensive line has been inexplicably poor. The defense continues to give up big plays at bad times. Doug Pederson does not look like the stone cold killer we saw in 2017 and Carson Wentz does not seem to be anywhere near 100% as he continues to find his feet after the ACL injury and months-long layoff.
I donât know if itâs a Super Bowl hangover or what, but whatever moxie this team had last year is missing. Think of it as a âmojoâ or a âmettle,â the sort of intangible trait that you canât really define, but you know exists, and it pops up when guys are required to make clutch plays or get big stops or rise to the occasion with everything on the line.
That trait is totally missing right now. In addition to committing head-scratching screw ups week-in and week-out, they just donât have the âitâ factor, to use an old cliche.
Itâs true that the NFC East is extremely blah right now, so thatâs the glass half-full takeaway from this game. Maybe a short turnaround against a divisional foe this Thursday gets the blood pumping again and pulls the team back to .500, but they better figure it out fast, because 9-7 gets you nothing but a postseason trip to Los Angeles and 7-9 gets you nothing at all.
1) Play calling
41 called passes to 12 called running plays isnât going to get it done.
Jay Ajayi carried the ball eight times, Wendell Smallwood three times, and Josh Adams once on what may have been Dougâs worst call of the game.
More than just the off-balance run/pass ratio, the problem here is that the Eagles arenât establishing the ground game early. Doug ran it just five times on 19 first-half plays, one of which was a bullshit handoff before the clock ran out during the sixth series. Take that carry away and it was four runs on 18 first half plays for a 78% to 22% pass/run ratio.
Not only does that screw up the rhythm and flow in general, but offensive linemen prefer to run block instead of pass block. When you ask Isaac Seumalo to pass protect on the first four plays of the first game heâs started this season, what do you think is going to happen? Furthermore, you cannot run play-action passes when you havenât even established the run in the first place. If I see the Eagles line up under center and use play-action one more time my head is going to explode. If you insist on trying to misdirect defenses in that way, go back to your RPO package out of the shotgun.
Sure, Ajayi might not be 100%. Corey Clement was unavailable for this one and same thing with Darren Sproles, but Smallwood is more than capable of running the ball 6-10 times per game. This is the same situation with LeGarrette Blount not getting enough work last season, then the Eagles magically got better when he started getting more involved in the offense.
Hereâs a telling quote from Ajayi after the game, via Zack Rosenblatt at NJ.com:
âObviously we want to be able to run the ball early and start that rhythm early in the beginning of the game,â Ajayi said in the locker room after the game. âIf I remember correctly we had maybe three carries at the end of the first quarter.
âWith the offensive line we have on this team, running the ball like that, that doesnât make sense to me.â
Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
Run the ball Doug:
2)Â Fringe battles and situational football
Iâve written in the past about how the Eagles generally have a lot of success winning in peripheral phases of the game â things like time of possession, third down conversion, stuff like that.
It was not the case yesterday evening:
lost time of possession, 33 minutes to 27 minutes
-1 turnover margin
2 for 9 on third down (22.2% conversion rate)
allowed Minnesota to go 4-9 on third down (36.4%)
lost 28 yards on three sacks
2 for 5 success rate in red zone
8 penalties for 52 yards
allowed a defensive touchdown
Honestly, itâs hard to believe they only fell by two points when you consider that they lost just about every fringe battle in this game. The Vikings missing a pair of field goals, which made the game seem a lot closer than maybe it actually was.
3) Mistakes
In no particular order:
Wendell Smallwoodâs 3rd down drop
missed tackles in first half (corners were especially poor)
Lane Johnson getting beat easily on the Wentz fumble
Ajayi fumble
two illegal formation penalties on the offense
Jordan Matthews running out of bounds when the clock was going to stop anyway at two-minute warning
two false starts on the same drive
intentional grounding and false start on a three play, -15 yard drive after a Minnesota fumble
Similar to the above entry, this is stuff the Eagles just donât do, or at least they didnât do last year.
4) Personnel problems and scapegoating
Isaac Seumalo?
Swapping Isaac Seumalo for Stefen Wisniewski is going to solve the offensive line problem?
I donât know what Doug Pederson or Jeff Stoutland have against Wis, but they jerked him around with the left guard rotation last year, which gave us a few games of Chance Warmack instead. Thing is, everybody KNEW Wisniewski was the better player and the coaching staff finally caved and ended the ridiculous platoon thing, whatever that was.
On film this year, the entire offensive line has been poor, though the tackles have been probably worse than the any of the interior linemen thus far. But you canât bench Lane Johnson, right? Thatâs too risky from an optics standpoint. Wis is the safest guy to bench to send a message.
Right, so this is how Seumalo did on the first series:
Terrible series for Isaac Seumalo. Got driven back on each play. Questionable play-calling by Doug as well. Do you really want him pass blocking all 3 plays?
â Tommy Lawlor (@lawlornfl) October 7, 2018
It feels like Wisniewski is just the week five scapegoat because itâs easier to justify his benching rather than that of a bigger name player (cough, Jalen Mills).
Doug gave a non-answer when asked why he made the switch at guard:
âObviously in fairness of both Isaac and Stefen, I want to make sure that we evaluate the film on this, and itâs going to be hard, though, because itâs a short week, short turnaround and weâre on to the Giants.
I thought initially, he played well. Isaac played well. Weâll evaluate it again and make the decision moving forward.â
Huh? Okay.
Wis had a different take:
Wisniewski: âIâm going to be honest. Iâve been playing pretty well. I really donât think that was it. I have some theories, but Iâm not going to share those publicly. âŠItâs frustrating. If I wasnât a Christian, Iâd probably be losing my mind."
â Zach Berman (@ZBerm) October 8, 2018
Good for him for saying that.
Also, not sure how many snaps Shelton Gibson got, but he clearly has an ability to get down the field and catch the ball. Jeffery was targeted eight times and only caught two balls, one of which came from a hard hit on a long third down pass. Dallas Goedert was not very involved on Sunday, nor was Jordan Matthews. I donât know if Wentz isnât seeing guys down the field or if theyâre not getting open, but heâs holding the ball waaaaaaay too long and does not have the running and scrambling ability that he had pre-surgery.
5) Quotables
For what itâs worth, the common theme among the players post-game was that they were beating themselves, shooting themselves in the foot, self-inflicted mistakes, stuff like that.
A few quotes:
Jason Peters, on whether opposing defenses are doing a better job of scheming the Eagles offense:
âI canât say that. We had mental errors. We killed ourselves a couple of times in the red zone. We got pushed back, we didnât get points at times, and sometimes we got three points instead of seven. Right now weâre just killing ourselves.â
Zach Ertz, on the offenseâs slow start:
âNot making plays, not executing. The players, weâre just not executing, and thatâs the bottom line. Weâre getting to the red zone, messed up consistently in the first half, then our backs are against the walls, then we start rolling. We just have to find a way to start fast. We preach it and we emphasize it during the week. Itâs talked about, but we have to go out there when the game is on the line and the bullets are flying, start the game, we have to go. Our team isnât made to â no team in the league first of all is made to â play from a deficit of 17-3. Our team, in particular, is definitely not. We want to give our defense the lead, so those guys can take off with the four guys and dominate like they always do. We just have to play better. It starts with me, I have to play better, we just have to execute.â
Malcolm Jenkins, on if he agrees with the term âself-inflictedâ when describing the loss:
âItâs kind of been the thing where [weâre] giving up plays when we know we shouldnât, penalties, takeaways, turnovers, and then the lack of takeaways; most things we feel like we are doing to ourselves. We havenât played a game yet where we felt like the team just flat out beat us. Thatâs the most frustrating part, but itâs up to us to correct those. Obviously with a short week itâs something that we are going to have to trust each individual to look at themselves critically, really, without practice and try to be a more disciplined team this week.â
Fair enough I guess.
6) Jalen Mills vs. Fletcher Cox
It was around 7:35 in the third quarter when Jalen Mills broke up a pair of passes to keep the Vikings out of the end zone.
Problem is, he allowed a 68-yard reception to let Minnesota into the red zone in the first place (of course the Eagles blitzed on that play and didnât get there, but whatever).
While jawing with Adam Thielen, Fletcher Cox came over and told Mills to get back to the sideline:
Fletcher Cox had some words for Jalen Mills. #Eagles pic.twitter.com/zeRIvu8AyU
â Matt Mullin (@matt_mullin) October 7, 2018
The thing here is that Mills doesnât understand that:
you probably should just take the moral victory and get off the field after giving up a 68 yard pass play
the optics of celebrating a pass break-up or mouthing off at an opponent look terrible WHEN JUXTAPOSED with a bad defensive play
Again, I donât think Mills was totally horrendous on the day. He only gave up 19 yards outside of the big third quarter play and logged three PBUs in this game, but, like I wrote last week, his transgressions always look worse because heâs getting beat in open space. In this game he had zero penalties and did well in the red zone, he just got cooked badly on the one drive. Ronald Darby got beat on the Thielen touchdown, if you care about those kinds of things.
But good on Cox for telling Mills to get on with it.
7) The Michael Bennett âpenaltyâ
Here it is, in all of its glory:
Esto fue marcado como "Rudeza al Pasador".
DE Michael Bennett (#FlyEaglesFly) llega tropezando al QB, pero no hay intenciĂłn de taclearlo debajo de las rodillas.
Hasta lo sujeta para no hacer palanca.#NFL#MINvsPHI pic.twitter.com/h5g6ELEDBj
â Ivis Aburto (@IvisAburto) October 7, 2018
I get it; you canât go low into the quarterback. But when a defensive end is rounding a blocker and getting shoved to the ground, what exactly is he supposed to do there? Nothing? Put his hands in the air and let the quarterback get away? If anything, he sort of slid down his legs and onto the ankles, where he wrapped him up and held on.
Minnesota took the 15 yard penalty and went on to score there. It was a crucial play in this game.
Bennett blew off reporters in the locker room like he always does, but Malcolm Jenkins had some good things to say about the play:
âI donât know what heâs supposed to do. If the quarterback has the ball, I know they donât want low hits on the quarterback, but if youâre falling down, I guess youâre supposed to just let the quarterback go. The explanation from the official was that he has to avoid that hit which means that he canât do his job; you canât tackle the quarterback while the quarterback has the ball.
âŠ.
What do I tell my teammate to do in that situation where heâs already falling onto the ground? The quarterback has the ball in his hands and he has to avoid the play, which literally means he has to fall and allow the quarterback to continue the down which is the antithesis of his job. It was a tough call, but we have to find a way to overcome it.â
âThe antithesis of his job.â Thatâs an excellent way to explain how absurd it is.
Anyway, since this was a huge play in the game, Iâll drop in the entire exchange with the refereeing crew via pool reporter Reuben Frank (transcription provided by the Eaglesâ PR staff):
Can you provide an explanation â at the end of the second quarter, Eagles defensive end Michael Bennettâs sack on Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins was called for roughing the passer. What did Bennett do wrong on that play?Â
Walt Coleman: âHe went low into the quarterbackâs knees with his shoulder, with force. And the rule is that you cannot hit the quarterback low at the knee area or below with force. He got him there with his shoulder, so thatâs what I had as far as roughing the passer.â
There was a crowd around Cousins. If he is coming down, how does that change the interpretation?Â
Coleman: âIt wouldnât really change it at all. Somebody would have to basically push him and change his direction, change everything, in order for that not to be a foul. You just canât hit the quarterback at the knee area or below and he got him with his shoulder with force. So thatâs what I had as far as the roughing the passer.â
Is that a new rule or interpretation?Â
Coleman: âNo, thatâs the one thatâs been there for quite some time. Thatâs the one they put in several years ago. So thatâs not a new roughing the passer. Thatâs a classic. That one has been there for quite some time now.â
(A âpool reporterâ is basically one media member who speaks to the official after the game on behalf of everyone else. He or she shares the quotes with other outlets. There are no traditional scrums or press conferences with referees because it would just turn into a slaughter.)
8) Dougâs best call?
I do think he made the right call to kick the field goal in the third quarter to cut the lead to 14.
Why not? There was plenty of time to get a couple of scores to tie the game, more than 18 minutes.
Then, he went for two to cut the lead to six, which meant all you needed was a field goal, stop, and field goal to tie the game, OR a touchdown and PAT to win the game.
Shrug.
I thought that was a key momentum play at the time, and the Eagles had found a rhythm and were executing during that window of the game, so I didnât have any issue going for two at that point.
9) Dougâs worst call?
Not a fan of the pitch to Josh Adams, the Eaglesâ slowest running back, on 3rd and short during the second drive.
I also was not a fan of the 4th and 1 pass in the 4th quarter, the empty backfield shotgun look, but credit to Alshon Jeffery for making a hell of a catch to move the chains. Carson Wentz would have been allowed to sneak that last year, but I have a feeling they just donât want him doing that this year on a repaired leg.
And sweet Jesus in Heaven that was a bad challenge flag on the Stefon Diggs catch. Not only did the receiver have two feet in bounds, he might have done three toe taps before getting out of bounds. I donât know what Doug was doing there.
However â
I didnât have a problem with the decision to punt after the fourth quarter turnover on 4th and 20. Right then it was a six point game with 9:17 remaining, and you knew you were getting the ball back eventually in a situation where a touchdown could win it. The defense needed to make a stop and didnât get the job done.
10) Silent broadcasting
I was watching the game at a restaurant with friends, so I couldnât hear the broadcast very well over the speakers, but I assume Eagles fans thought Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were biased and/or sucked.
Iâve personally never had a problem with either one of them, and I would prefer to listen to that pair plus Erin Andrews vs. a large majority of the other FOX crews currently working NFL games. I would certainly take Aikman and Buck over Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth, for sure.
The one thing I couldnât wrap my head around was that it appeared as though they cut to commercial when the Panthers were about to hit that 63-yard field goal to beat the Giants. I thought the restaurant changed the channel, but nope, FOX failed to show the end of that game and went right to the Eagles jawn because of the ridiculous NFL broadcasting rules that put the networks in terrible positions.
Itâs an outrage.

Babysitting VII
Warning: brief mention of drinking, smoking, self-harm, suicide, etc. Not dwelled upon.
The brothers gaped.
They couldnât move.
Sam tried to say something, anything, but the words wouldnât form. Dean simply stared down at the wood slats of the porch.
Okay, so that isnât exactly how Maison had planned for that conversation to go. She had hoped it would be more of a subtle-hint-they-figure-it-out kind of thing. Oh well, time to salvage the conversation. And their sanity.
She cleared her throat. âSo,â the brothersâher brothersâ looked up at her, âlet me tell you my story. All of my story. The part you havenât heard yet.â
âWell, yeah,â Dean sounds angry, but Maison believes he is really just in shock, âI think we deserve that. Donât we, Sam?âŠSam?âŠSam!â
âWha-uh um yeah,â Sam stood awkwardly and held out a shaking palm. Maison shook it. âIts nice to meet you, Maison. Iâve never had a sister before.â
Maison couldnât help but smile at the not-so-little ray of sunshine that was trying to come to terms with the situation. Dean gave Sam a what-for look to which Sam replied with a nod towards Maison. Dean rolled his eyes and sighed dramatically, but leaned over and grudgingly shook Maisonâs hand.
Dean grumbled, âHi.â
âHi to you tooâŠDean-o,â Maison said, granting the giver-of-nick-names one for himself.
âSo whatâs your deal?â Dean is still sulking at the news.
âWhat he means,â Sam interjected, âis weâre listening to everything you have to say.â
âThanks, Sam.â
âPlease, its Sammy. But just for you and Dean,â Sam teased.
Maison laughed, relaxing a little. âOkay, so you remember I mentioned an angel? Yeah, he was like my guardian angel, but I was a crappy ward. I had a lot of self-confidence and identity issues. I started drinking, smoking, anything and everything. Eventually, I started cutting. Finally, I was done. Done with it all. On top of everything, my mother died suddenly. As I put the cold barrel of that gun to my temple and started to pull the trigger, I felt a small kiss on my nose. I released the trigger. I felt another tender kiss. Then another and another, and when I looked into the mirror, I could see freckles forming across the bridge of my nose. I dropped the gun and demanded to know who was there. Before my eyes, an angel appeared. He didnât say a word. He just held me tight until I stopped crying, realizing I almost killed myself. He gave me the talk about all things supernatural and even explained guardian angels. Iâll get into that lore later. So he stayed with me. Because of my âcircumstancesâ he was allowed to stay with me. Visible. We were together, fell in love, and then one day, he flew in with an angel blade through his calf.â
Sam and Dean waited for her to go on, completely involved in the narrative.
Maison took a shaky breath. âHe saidâŠhe said he didnât have much time. Something was wrong with purgatory and the leviathans. He had tried to help fix it, but then they were attacked by one of their own. An angel.â
The boys are piecing it together. They are understanding where Mais is going with this narrative and try to stop her, but she continues, dismissing them with a wave of her hand.
âCastiel. He had absorbed all the power of the leviathans, and he had come to kill any who did not pledge their allegiance to him. Obviously, my guardian didnât. As he tried to flee, the blade became lodged into his calf. When he got to me, he knew it was too late. He gave me a final kiss and transferred some of his grace into a locket. He told me to give it to an animal, and that when I did, part of his being would be transferred to that animal.â Maison rubbed Rufus who had sat up and licked her neck. âSo when I found Rufus two years later, I transferred the grace.â Maison smiled, âI could hear him again. He left just enough grace to be able to keep Rufus alive as long as I was and to maintain his own telepathic bond with me. So,â Maison clapped her hands together, âany questions?â
Sam asked, âWhat was your guardianâs name?â
Maison look at Rufus. âI promised never to say his name again. Next.â
âSorry about your angel,â Dean said. âCas wasnât in his right mind.â
âI donât blame Castiel.â
âOkay, then. This is good. This is great. Iâm going to hit the sack.â And with that, Dean disappeared into the house.
Sam chuckled. âDonât worry about it. Thatâs just Dean for ya.â
âHeâs taking it better than I thought he would. What are your thoughts? You knowâpoof!âand now you know a new hunter and have a sister.â
âBaby sister,â Sam teased. âThis is going to be great.â
Maison hummed and rubbed Rufus.
âActually,â Sam said, âcould you tell me more about the whole grace-transfer thing? Iâve never heard of such.â
âHonestly? It has taken some getting used to. I mean, its still him, butâŠnot? I donât know. I like having him around though.â
âSo, not to hit too personal, but youâve had a rough past. How did you get over it?â
âI didnât.â
Sam was again confused by her bluntness. She mustâve seen that because she continued.
âI didnât get over it. I worked through it.â Maison gestured at the house and clearing, âI cleared this land, built this house, work on vehicles, and more. To stay busy and not dwell on the hurt. But I also came to terms with the issues. I didnât drink and avoid talking about it.â
âHeh,â Sam couldnât help but smile, âdonât know why anyone would do that.â
Maison rolled her eyes and scratched behind Rufusâ ear, making his tail thump against the swing.
Sam decided he had a lot to think about. After about 15 minutes of comfortable silence spent listening to the cicadas and the owl in the woods and wrestling with the new revelations of the day, Sam excused himself and went upstairs. When he reached the loft, he was overcome with emotions. He wanted to laugh because there was Dean, in his undershirt and boxers, sprawled across the bed in his stomach, mouth wide open. Sam walked over and was about to take his picture for some easy leverage, but he stopped. He tried to remember the last time Dean had slept this peacefully. This vulnerably. Sure, at the bunker, Dean was more relaxed than at a motel, but Sam hadnât seen him like this inâŠwellâŠsince before their dad went missing the first time. All those years ago.
Sam shook his head, smiling, and turned to his bed on the other side of the nightstand inbetween them. He got comfortable, but he planned to stay up a little and think about the day. That is, until his head hit the pillow, and he was out cold.
Sam dreamed that night.
His dreams were usually about the demon blood addiction.
Or Gadreel possessing his body.
Or Dean dying over and over again.
But this time, he and Dean were driving. Nowhere in particular, no destination in mind, just driving their beautiful car. They were still hunters. Their parents were still dead. But they were at peace and not worrying about monsters. It was Sam telling Dean to take this exit, and Dean saying that he knew a shortcut. It was Sam trying to change the music and Deanâs signature line 'Driver picks the music and shotgun shuts his cake hole.â Cas pops in and says something that makes them all laugh until their faces hurt. Sam canât stop smiling. Dean canât keep from smiling in his dream.
Its him and Sam and Cas. All of them sitting on the hood of the impala, drinking beer, and laughing. They are overlooking the Oregon coast, the black rocks sharply contrasting the brilliantly red and orange and yellow and pink sunset. Dean took a sip and sighed. This was the life.
Maison gave Rufus a kiss on top of his head. âThank you. They need a good rest.â Rufus whined and nudged Maisonâs cheek. âAnd the dreams were a good touch, I will admit.â
Rufus perked his ears happily, the grace flashing his eyes blue for an instant.

Maxine Waters isnât sure why millennials love her, but she sure loves them
Image: Applewhite/AP/REX/Shutterstock
Congresswoman Maxine Waters is not one to mince words.
âGet ready for impeachment,â she recently tweeted, to the tune of 104,000 likes. Watersâ tweet came after FBI Director James Comeyâs testimony in front of Congress this week about the Trump campaign being investigated for their ties with Russian government officials.
â[Trump] has no self-control . . . I donât think he can even do the cover up,â Waters (D-CA) later told me in an interview.
SEE ALSO: The 10 most iconic Maxine Waters moments
Itâs the kind of combative language thatâs landed Waters in trouble in the past, And yet: Theyâre also the reason the long-serving California congresswoman has become, at the age of 78, a rising political star among her growing millennial fanbase.
Waters joined the U.S. Congress in 1991 sheâs now the most senior black woman in Congress. She was surprised to see her popularity rocket following the November election, after having spent years battling so many other important enemies, most notably Daryl Gates, the former Los Angeles police chief who handled the Rodney King case.
âMillennials are too young to connect to that,â Waters said, but the historical disconnect hasnât stopped the growing numbers of her young admirers, who seem to connect more with Waters than leaders their own age.
But even though Waters has made plenty of headlines before, the past few months have pushed her into the spotlight for millennials and their political discussions, where sheâs now known, lovingly, as âAuntie Maxine.â Of course, the congresswoman has a large and loyal fan base outside of millennials, and routinely enjoys around 70 percent of her largely liberal districtâs vote. Yet, it appears to be progressive millennialspeople of color, women, and those otherwise disaffected by the Democratic party establishmentwho are driving her rise to social media prominence.
It all started when Waters walked out of a confidential meeting with FBI Director James Comey and set an entire room of reporters on fire:
Since then, her Twitter following shot up, from 33,000 to over 199,000, the largest following of any representative in the House, besides Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
And it hasnât stopped. Watersâ Democratic colleagues generally criticize the president through the lens of politics (e.g. Trump, as a threat to liberal democratic institutions). Waters, meanwhile, throws that critique into harsh relief, by taking it several steps further: she makes Trump a personal issue that goes beyond the political. And she brings her emotions riding shotgun with her.
Itâs not exactly what youâd characterize as a typical politicianâs approach.
âWe canât be handling this as if itâs normal. Patting each other on the back, talking about gentle lady and gentleman,â Waters said. âItâs not a human response ⊠I felt that way when he was running for President of United States, [bragging about] grabbing private partsIâve never seen anything like it. And making fun of a disabled reporter. Kids might do that ⊠Iâve never seen an adult do that.â
Image: Alex Brandon/AP/REX/Shutterstock
âWe canât be handling this as if itâs normal.â
And Waters is nothing if not someone adamant about following her rhetoric with substantial actions. She didnât go to the presidentâs inauguration because it was âa wasteâ of her time. She didnât attend his joint address because she couldnât âcontrol her enthusiasmâ against him.
I never ever contemplated attending the inauguration or any activities associated w/ @realDonaldTrump. I wouldnât waste my time.
Maxine Waters (@MaxineWaters) January 15, 2017
In Watersâ eyes, powerful figures like Sean Spicer shouldnât be feared. The congresswoman says the people who make fun of Sean Spicer actually have more power than he does, so, she insists, âletâs have have fun with him while heâs here.â
REP. @MAXINEWATERS on Spicer: Nobody takes him seriously anyway⊠letâs have fun with him while heâs there #AMJoy https://t.co/d2WcLc6Atf
AM Joy w/Joy Reid (@amjoyshow) February 12, 2017
Again: Not exactly the most politick of ideas. But for Waters, both the actions sheâs taking and the way theyâre being received add up to a pretty self-evident no-brainer.
â[Millennials] like the outspoken way that I handle dealing with the issues,â Waters said. âThey like the no-holds-barred confrontation. A lot of young people donât have a lot of faith in politicians. You canât depend on what they say. They talk in circles. They dont speak the kind of language that has truth to them. Iâm speaking differently.â
In the few months after the election, more than 8,000 millennials have told Run for Something, which recruits progressive candidates under the age of 35, that they want to run for public office. Many of these people donât have traditional political experience, and werenât exactly culled from a talent pool of young D.C. insiders.
Waters, who was born in Missouri as the fifth of 13 children, and who didnât exactly come from a political dynasty herself, can identify. The congresswoman says she got her start in politics not in the state legislatures but when she worked as an assistant teacher for Head Start, the federal program focusing on early education in underserved, working-class communities. It was there that Waters learned about the impact a government program can haveif there are politicians willing to support it, and young people willing to support them, that is.
âI saw the real difference between politicians who supported programs like Head Start, and those who didnât,â Waters said. âI started getting really excited about politics.â
Waters held onto that feeling all the way through college until 1976, when she decided to run for the California State Assembly. It was women, Waters stressed repeatedly, who encouraged her to run.
âThey all came together to support me,â the congresswoman said.

Maxine Waters (@MaxineWaters) March 8, 2017
Even though Waters represented the âanti-establishmentâ and was considered an outsider activist, she won the election and proceeded to find her place in it. Once in office, she turned some of the proposals she received on the board into actual legislation.
She brought the outside world in.
The anti-establishment activism, largely led by women and people of color, that helped carry the congresswoman to power mirrors the energy Waters saw at the Womenâs March. Itâs a burst of young enthusiasm she hopes her own party takes advantage of.
Image: Bernstein/AP/REX/Shutterstock
âLetâs bring them in. Create advisories. Create millennial events. Iâm going to find millennial lawyers to see if they can bring in a new perspective,â Waters said. âItâs very important that people who are feeling the need to do something ⊠get activated.â
Of course, the political landscape Waters grew up is very different from the one we have today. And thereâs a key difference between the activism that helped bring Waters to power and the one on display at places like the Womenâs March: Americans are more polarized than ever before. People of different political persuasions barely have the strength to talk to one another on Facebook.
And this is precisely the climate Waters thinks millennials can make their biggest impact inside of.
âMany of our conservatives do believe theyâre more patriotic than anyone else,â Waters said. âI think itâs time for those who they donât think are patriotic, young people, minorities, I think itâs time for them to step up and show leadershipâ
âThere are people who love and appreciate this country, but they donât talk about it that way. Now is the time to talk.â
âThere are people who love and appreciate this country, but they donât talk about it that way. Now is the time to talk.â
Itâs hard to see many millennials planning to organize with âthe other side,â especially when the countryâs two leading parties seem so hellbent on obliterating the otherâs political agenda.
And youâd imagine that Waters, who once generously offered to help the conservative Tea Party âgo straight to hell,â would be part of that school. After all, the very program that started her career, Head Start, is now on the Republican chopping block. More than ever before, it seems, the opposing party poses an imminent threat to the people she serves.
Yet Waters stressed that she always tries to reach out behind the scenes to those Republicans who are willing to listen. When John Boehner, the former conservative speaker of the House who Waters once called a âdemonâ for threatening President Barack Obamaâs agenda, finally retired, she let some of that past go, and called him to tell him she was proud of him.
Spoken, seemingly, like the teacher she once was.
At the time, Boehner could barely seem to believe it.
youtube
âI saw him when he tried to stand against [the Tea Party],â Waters said of the former congressman. âHe did favor some of the work I was doing, but I let him know when he pushed it. I wanted to let him know he didnât do anything to be ashamed of.â
Itâs the kind of sensitive relationship-building Waters hopes she can pass onto her millennial fan base, who might be otherwise be resistant to reaching out. Itâs not that Waters has abandoned her beliefsheâs attracted something of a reputation in Washington, as it were, for her unflappable left-wing worldviewshe just believes in operating on the most human level possible.
âI tell them when I like something theyâre doing. And I let them in know in no uncertain terms when I think something theyâre doing inhumane or wrong,â Waters said.
The congresswoman doesnât see this as simple politicking. Her politics, and the anger sheâs so often accused of by critics, is driven by empathy. Sheâs the teacher who grew up and became a congresswoman, but never seems to have left the profession. She gets disappointed when people let her down, and thrilled when they exceed her expectations. She canât imagine operating any other way.
âI mean, I canât make this up. I canât contrive it. I just do what my heart tells me to do,â Waters said.
She hopes her young fans do, too.
