The poisoning scene of Idirsholas was made better in "You and I are the story that never gets told", chapter 11. Merlin wasn't a coward there, Morgana was shown as conflicted and confused as she truly was. The early magic reveal had really changed things for the better; it works both with Merlin and Morgana and Arthur and Morgana.
