"anakin would've never turned to the dark side had qui gon lived." utter. bullshit. not only is this particular hot take an insult to obi-wan it completely robs anakin of his agency, because at the end of the day it was anakin's decision to pledge his loyalty to palpatine and to destroy everything that the people he loved held dear. that's what makes anakin skywalker such a compelling character, and as darth vader a tragic and iconic villian... because he did this to himself.
#star wars#anakin skywalker#obi wan kenobi#qui gon jinn#meta#gzb#dave filoni#jedi order#darth vader#i always take anything feloni has to say about anakin with a pinch of salt since he retconned tcw!anakin to be “likeable”#anakin didn't need to be “likeable” he needed to be cringe and unhinged#hayden christensen understood the assignment#back to qui gon: i'm sorry but#qui gon's 1st padawan (xanatos) turned to the dark side#his 2nd padawan (obi-wan) was made to feel unwanted pretty much the whole time qui gon was his master#including that time qui gon stood before the council and told them *in front of obi-wan* that he wanted to train someone else#and feloni's out here claiming qui gon would've magically cured my boy's unhingedness??? hahaha nO#obi-wan kenobi was and always will be the best fit for anakin#and as for the sith lord-shaped elephant in the room? palpatine had been grooming anakin since he was 9#he would've exploited the cracks in the master/padawan relationship no matter who anakin's master was

man I was just thinking about how people sometimes think the strawhats are silly because they are a pirate crew but aren't actually committing heinous crimes that other pirate crews are known for. That they aren't /really/ criminals. But like?? They very much ARE criminals. Their crime is just protecting peoples right to be free and to live. To the world government that Very Much is a Serious Crime because it interferes with the desires of those in power, who the government actually protects.
#one piece#theres this issue narratively speaking where you have a main character who is a criminal and therefore a “bad guy”#but main characters have to be generally likeable and/or relatable to the main audience#so you get criminals who don't actually do any crimes -they are just bad in name/reputation#Or you get governments who are so bad and morally corrupt that being a decent person becomes the crime#one piece has really good themes about power and freedom#like they establish those themes in episode 2 when the navy solider follows orders and throws the girl over the wall#and luffy instantly goes to catch her and keep her from getting hurt#and then they keep expanding on those themes for the rest of the story!!#im rotating one piece's narrative in my brain#lizs storythoughts

I think I just had a weird dream about me watching Inanimate Insanity and actually liking Silver Spoon (who, if you don’t know, is my fourth least favorite character of the show). It wasn’t that he was “nicer” or that he acted any different at all, it was just that I found him less annoying and more funny, I guess.
#Object Shows#Object Show Community#OSC#Inanimate Insanity#II Silver Spoon#for the record#I’m against the idea that characters have to be ‘mega ultra uber duber nice’ in order to be likeable#heck#a couple of my favorites are definitely not mega ultra uber duber nice#it’s just that Silver Spoon and my other least favorites are really#REALLY#annoying

Like, for all Cere saying “While you’re alive, you always have a choice” Cal doesn’t really seem to have much motivation to do all this beyond *shrug* *indistinct noise*. It’s not like the game gives him an option to go be a farmer, or something, and his goals seem pretty vague. Like, he’s going to gather potential Jedi, then ? restart the Order ?, then ??, and ???, ?????, then DEFEAT THE EMPIRE!
I know the story takes some twists and turns, found family, the journey you wanted was inside you all along, yada yada, but I wish he had something he was striving for beyond “I don’t know, didn’t have anything better to do, I guess”. Give him a separate mystery to solve, or a memory he wants to unlock, or something.
#jedi: fallen order#story criticism#it's still a likeable game#I'm not complaining about that#I was just trying to think if it's meeting the same standards as kotor#if kotor is Star Wars but an early-2000s rpg is Jedi: Fallen Order Star Wars but a late-2010s soulslike#and I don't think it quite meets that#not that kotor is perfect#it's dated#and janky#and is remembered with more heavily rose-tinted glasses than people realise#but I think it hits the feel of Star Wars the first one better than Fallen Order does#maybe because what a Star Wars movie is has changed a lot since 2003?#I think the legacy of that first movie has become a lot more muddied and dented than it used to be#in 2003 you could point to a prequel and go 'not that'#whereas now there's a lot more exhausting bullshit clumped up around Star Wars#a lot more weighty expectations#I guess the story does feel like a Star Wars knock off from the early 80s#but it does feel like a knock off#mimicking but not quite replicating#it's not a terrible thing but I would prefer some motivation#a case of more competent execution making a thing overall worse perhaps

hi. i saw your post about north haters. i actually hate her because simarkus was supposed to be canon but they decided to use north instead
yeah i strongly disagree with hating her Period but i can't stop you from having an opinion i guess .. it's just the whole "dastardly woman getting in the way of my ship" mumbo jumbo that makes me scratch my head and sigh a little. love simarkus as much as the next guy but i also feel like north doesn't need to be thrown under the bus for people to acknowledge that her relationship with markus was forced and had mediocre writing. i would probably even Like them together if their relationship wasn't built around north's trauma and vulnerability in a way that comes off as weirdly misogynistic on david cage's part but alas! mr. cage is a notorious asshole who cannot sacrifice his bigotry for the sake of half-decent writing!! i feel like the only character that truly suffers from that relationship is north herself Because she has a character outside of it that kind of gets tossed out because her relationship with a man is deemed as somehow more important than her personality. but yeah i feel like going as far as to outright hate north for no reason other than the fact that her character was used as a love interest and simon's wasn't still isn't agreeable to me but i'm not going to shame you for it
#rare actually serious post from simon.???? insane#but yeah like. i LOVE north so i might just be overly defensive of her but i feel like two things can be true at once#north can be an overhated character with overlooked likeable qualities AND we can still say simarkus should've been real#there's no need to throw a random female character under the bus in order to speak well about a gay ship#if this comes off as rude it's not supposed to be . genuinely. i just really get passionate about this topic in particular

Interesting idea about Marius maybe being noticeably taller than both Lestat and Armand. I haven't read the books and I've been thinking that it doesn't matter what Marius looks like, but I've seen some people say that he looks like Lestat and that's important. The show can obviously adapt or not adapt whatever elements of the books it chooses, so it doesn't really matter for the show, but does it matter in the books that Lestat resembles Marius?
Hmm, I don't remember it being super important that Marius and Lestat look alike? But again, I've only read the first five books and I read them a hot minute ago (although I am re-reading TVL now - I just got pulled in again when I was reading sections for this fic, haha, Anne is such a compelling writer).
Marius and Lestat's relationship is fairly unique in the books in the context that they take on a bit of a father + favourite son dynamic. Marius is the one who coins the term 'brat prince' for Lestat (and it's absolutely a term of affection when it comes from him), and he's the one who kiiind of steps in in the way it would've been expected Magnus do of that era of ancient vampires when Lestat tracks him down after leaving Paris and before he goes to New Orleans. Marius also has a bit of a flirtation with Gabrielle and is the one who tells Lestat to go live a human life because he was turned before he got to have one (absolutely hilarious levels of hypocrisy coming from Marius who loved turning children lol) which is a big part of why Lestat settles down with Louis in NOLA as opposed to doing whatever else with him. So yeah - it's very much a quasi fatherly role he steps into with Lestat, at least in the early books.
I do think in that sense that it's important Marius see parts of himself - or at least, traits he wants to have - in Lestat, but I don't from memory think it matters too much in terms of physical appearance? It's more that he needs to be extremely charismatic in a way that's not dissimilar to Lestat (but I'd argue not that similar either - they're very different characters, and I think Marius' persona is a lot more of, well, a persona than Lestat's is). Arguably, it's a part of why Armand effectively imprints on, and has the degree of idolatry that he does for Lestat too.
#i can already see the amount of discourse around marius lol especially if they cast someone hot which i do think they will#this is the beautiful people show after all haha#he's going to be charming and likeable sometimes!#also absolutely morally bankrupt and despicable!#they have introduced the fact that he's a predator already though which is interesting to me personally as from memory in the books#you meet him without that context first#welcome to my ama#iwtv asks#he's also mmm#like okay i work in child safety sometimes and there is a big thing about how predators don't just groom a victim they groom a community#in order to allow them access to a victim#and that's in many ways how i see marius#which is a part of his dynamic with lestat#like lestat is not a victim of his but that doesn't mean marius hasn't groomed him too

Double Doctors! William Hartnell has a terrible time as wounded robber Jeff Richards, while Patrick Troughton is the unnamed (and uncredited!) tramp who finds Jeff's hiding place in Dial 999: 50,000 Hands (1.16, ABC, 1959)
#fave spotting#dial 999#classic doctor who#william hartnell#patrick troughton#doctor who#classic tv#itc#1959#or possibly '58; as I've said on the other Dial 999 posts‚ establishing a definitive transmission order is nearly impossible with tv from#this era. most sources agree this was the 16th episode shown‚ but a date isn't given anywhere but imdb‚ which provides only 1959 but has#dates scattered all over the place for other episodes in the show's run.#something of a fave spotting find‚ this! doctors one and two together in one episode of old tv‚ years before DW even existed#sadly the two‚ although technically in scenes together‚ never share the screen; in fact they never did‚ with Hartnell too ill to appear in#studio for DW tenth anniversary special The Three Doctors. he's in very fine form here tho‚ completely different to his other Dial 999#appearance (1.1‚ where he was a dangerous gangland leader). here he's a slightly sorry crook who's accidentally shot himself in the guts#he spends most of the episode wracked with pain and i must say Bill's very convincing and quite sympathetic. of note‚ his decidedly less#likeable partner in crime is played by Bill Fraser‚ Hartnell's costar in The Army Game (the first series of which had recently finished#when Dial 999 began airing). presumably a conscious choice on the producer's part?#Pat meanwhile has only a brief appearance here‚ playing a character imdb inexplicably identity as 'Benny'; I'm almost completely certain#that name never appeared in the episode‚ as he's mostly referred to simply as 'a tramp'‚ and it certainly doesn't appear in the credits as#Pat isn't credited (not unusual in early ITC shows which tended to credit only five or six key performers in an episode)#he gets a little comic business to do as he tries to evade Bob Beatty's tireless cop‚ and delivers his few lines in a rural accent of#indeterminate origin. apologies that i can't provide better pictures but network's dvd release‚ while welcome‚ doesn't appear to have had#much in the way of restoration (and who knows in what condition these eps survive; if the original films are still held then they'd be#potentially able to get a full shiny hd resto‚ but it could always be that the archived eps are overseas tapes or other inferior copies#i just don't know tbh! there simply isn't a huge amount of info out there about this 65 year old obscure cop show! for shame everyone! /jk)

“crazy fat people want bigger hallways!”
no jessica, disabled people want more accessible spaces, and you’re consuming content entirely comprised of cherry picking clips of the most out-there/unlikeable/not conventionally attractive people to push a narrative. disabled people deserve accessibility as a basic human right, and so do fat people and people who aren’t conventionally attractive, believe it or not!!! (:
#fatphobia#ableism#more accessibility hurt LITERALLY no one#also can we stop with the respectability politics?#’people would listen if u all we’re so crazy/aggressive/weird’ no they wouldn’t LOL#people do not owe you kindness when you are actively contributing to their marginalization.#people do not need to be likeable or conventionally attractive in order to be listened to.#not accepting criticism on this take btw (unless u are fat or disabled and ur criticism is that i’m doing harm to fat or disabled people)

i can’t tell if we’re going the “storyteller mary” route or not
#i’m planning on making a post about this later#but usually adaptions of tsg make mary a storyteller or writer (think dixie’s plays in the 2020 version)#this is done in an attempt to mix sara crewe and mary lennox in order to make mary more likeable#i feel like this book is trying to do it though#even though sara exists in this universe#a secret princess

I think you get a new team member on the third or fourth palace, I'm pretty sure but I can't remember exactly. Hope this helps in your Yusuke-Removal Endeavors
thank god. i sincerely hope its the 3rd bc im currently in limbo between the 2nd and 3rd and i cant actually figure out if i need to like trigger an event to make the 3rd target come up or if i just keep dicking around until the game forces me to progress like last time
#inbetween palaces is the worst part of this game fr like girl i dont WANT to work at my part time job and go to class i have to do that irl#and i keep getting lost in the subway station. i cant navigate public transportation irl why do i have to do it in a video game#anyways. this makes it sound like i hate p5 i really dont im actually enjoying it a lot i just wish it wasnt so slow lmao#and i wish every single menial thing didnt require like. grinding via boring ass everyday tasks#like why do i need to do crossword puzzles in order to READ A BOOK. PLEASE#why do i need to eat like 2 million hamburgers in order to ask a grown man why he gave me a real working gun#anyway. i dont REALLY like ann either but its not her fault. ryuji is by far the most likeable teammate in the game thus far#i assume that little first year gymnast will be a teammate eventually and i will probably bench ann in favor of her LMAO#that fucking detective is intriguing too ig but idk if hes going to be a teammate or just a thorn in my side

since i don't know the original at all take this w a grain of salt, but i honestly like that niragi got a second chance. i feel like the characters in the borderland were some sort of idealisations of their true selves, with either hightened or lowered morale or whatever you wanna call it
so what i want to believe is that niragi literally demonised himself so much that in the borderland he became this self obsessed monster whose entire identity circled around being evil - in some scenes it even seems like he needs to force himself to do something evil bc everything else would go against his self image
and that is not exactly the niragi we see a glimpse of later at the hospital. yeah he's still speaking in a self deprecating way but it's a very different tone. and i have high hopes that he will not become his borderland self in the real world, because now he has Chishiya.
#. listen this comes from a place of 1) desperately wanting to LIKE niragi but hey he tried to rape usagi twice#. and 2) i really kinda like him and chishiya together 😩#. another disclaimer: i don't think a character has to be morally 'clean' in order to be likeable#. it's just a personal thing where i simply cannot like rapists yk#r watches#aib spoilers#aib meta#. don't look at this tbh fhfkfkdks

basically i’m always torn between making my pinned post less bitter or more bitter
#like the entire first half of it is like 5 paragraphs of salt currently#because everytime someone irks me i make an attempt to clarify my expectations#but i don’t think it’s working tbh#the only people who would bother to read it anyway are the kind of people who aren’t even close to breaking any rules#at the very least i could probably trim it down. but the only way to do that is to make it a little firmer and ruder in order to be concise#i don’t want to seem cold and unfriendly nor do i wanna seem like i think i’m All That when i’m just some guy (girl)#but on the other hand maybe i do kinda have to do that#i need to be assertive i mean i’m at that point on my blog where i need to draw boundaries more clearly#and maybe that ironically would make me far more likeable and respectable#peach rambles

"kidnapping her only child" He literally freed him from slavery and gave him the single best opportunity he had in his entire life up to that point. Not only was she perfectly okay with Anakin leaving with him, but Anakin himself outright said he wanted to take a shot at being a Jedi. If you disagree with this, then I can only assume you didn't actually watch the movie because it's blatantly obvious to anyone with a working pair of eyes.
Very interesting take, nonny. Let me see what I have here...
#also like#it's fine to question the actions of fictional characters while also understanding why those actions were taken#your blorbos don't need to be perfect in order to be interesting or even likeable#i guess at least i haven't gotten any anons trying to defend the practice of slavery#which was a big thing in the star wars fandom way back when#the most reasonable take i've seen in regards to being miffed about the circumstances in phantom menace#that was in reply to me#was that space cops trying to control a whole galaxy are inevitably not going to be very effective#like great and very rational take from someone who was clearly passionate about the fandom
