it was gifted to you on christmas about two years ago. you’ve always dwelled on wanting one of your own, but never had the balls to go out of your way to purchase one because they could get pretty pricey. a lot of your extensive research and effort you spent scouring the internet to find the perfect vinyl record you’d like pointed to signs of something completely out of your budget. well, not completely, but unrealistically obtainable with the numbers you’ve been receiving paycheck-to-paycheck from your job.

so, each time that the holidays were around the corner, and whenever your mother would ask for your christmas wishlist, you’d throw in several other items you’d like but never included the idea of wanting a vinyl record. that secret desire of yours was something you kept to yourself, something you never brought up in conversation, nor was it something you’d expect to receive unless it was coming out of your pockets.

lo and behold, on the morning of a wintery cold december 25, when you were gathered around the christmas tree with your siblings and parents to open your presents, there sat a box with a fragile sticker stuck to the wrapping.

naturally you grew up owning multiple generations of nintendo ds’s. when nintendo came out with a new updated version you’d go to the game store to trade it in for store credit just to get the latest release. this routine continued up until middle school when your gaming hobby no longer prevailed itself in your interests.

as months passed and 2017 eventually rolled by, the internet buzzed with life after nintendo’s announcement about the upcoming hybrid console came to light. rest assured that you were one of millions who preordered the device and waited impatiently for it’s hard launch date to release in store.

but again, school started to pick up and extra curricula’s were time consuming, that playing video games became less and lesser of an option for you to indulge in.

leave it to shota to pick up your slack. because if it’s not super smash bros that he’s try-harding at, it’s either the suika game, animal crossing (if he really feels like it), or pokemon. an odd rotation but who were you to judge.

Ivory is an energetic, easy going party boy, he thrives off of attention from others. He seems to have a unserious, nonchalant attitude towards most things than a lot of people that’s his genuine personality, a lot of people like him (at least he thinks they do, he’s not entirely sure.) deep down though he feels very alone. Out of all my characters Ivory has been redesigned more than anyone, since I had so many ideas for him and yet didn’t know what to do with him. He was also originally gonna be a villain and eventually be killed off but people got attached to him too quickly. 💀

If one of Ivory’s early designs met his current design he’d get on his early designs nerves so fast.

Ivory is bioluminescent, which means he can glow like a glow-stick when he cracks his joints (or break his bones). Most of his body fluids glow in the dark. He’s a walking glowstick/blacklight.

I wish I cared about Dragon Age more. I used to. It'd been my favorite game series since 2009. And I still really care about the characters, especially my own. I really really like DATVs characters and I like my Rook but I don't care enough about the story or see anything in its future to care enough to write for it.

I've really only just started writing fic, if we aren't counting spiral bound notebooks of Pokemon fic passed between friends in middle school or 1 (one) Thor fanfic posted on FF.net in 2011, I'm surprised I've never written anything for DA. I don't know it it was lack of confidence in my writing or thinking no one would read it but now that I could write DA fic, and also can't is a weird feeling.

I'm able to write FHR fic because I care about the story and its characters and see a future for it. A fun and interesting one, full of mysteries and puzzles to figure out. I just don't feel that with Dragon Age.

There's no point to this, just rambling thoughts. But I might have figured out what makes me able to write for one fandom and not another.

It’s spooky season at Uva Academy! (I’m not going to try to Think Too Hard about whether or not Halloween would even be a thing in the Pokemon world as far as like the historical and spiritual origins it has in our world. Let’s just say that it is a thing and it’s celebrated the way it is in reality. Also fun fact, the name I give Nemona's older sister is the name I picked as my, like, kayfabe name in Spanish class in middle school. If you took language classes in school, did you also pick out a name from that target language and go by that name during class?)

Uva Academy goes all out for Halloween. At the start of the month, the hallways are bedecked with orange, black and purple decorations, all carefully placed by the student council and the student activities committee operating under the watchful eye of Nemona. The dining hall adds fall-themed foods and treats to the menu - the Pikachu jack o’lantern sandwich cookie is a must-try! Illuminations dot the school grounds, providing light and color as the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer. 

But the real star of the Halloween show at Uva Academy is the party. On Halloween night, the courtyard is transformed into a spooky soiree sensation. Students are allowed to let their Ghost Pokemon roam free while they dance and nosh on themed party foods. Dressing up in costume is not only allowed but encouraged because there’s a costume contest! A stage is set up for everyone to show off their looks and the attendees vote on their favorite costumes. The winners get a special Mismagius-shaped trophy and are published in the school newspaper and yearbook. 

What would the Fabulous Four think of all these Halloween festivities?

Nemona is chomping at the bit to make her mark on this event as the student council president. She’s meticulously planned out all of the decorations and picked out who is going to put what where. She’s stoked to hear that the dining room staff are adding even more seasonal specialties this year. And she absolutely cannot wait for the Halloween night party. Her big sister Azucena is an actress in Unova and is getting her hooked up with a custom-made wig and costume. What’s she going as? More like whosawhatsit she going as? She’s going to be Iono! Maybe she’ll win the contest?

Penny doesn’t really get all the fuss about Halloween, but she does like that it means her favorite anime will put out special themed figurines and can badges for her to add to her collection. And she does like the special treats in the dining hall. The party, though? Nah, she’s not going to the party. That’s not her thing. She’s just gonna hang out in her room that night and play video games or hack some databases or something. Although, sometimes…sometimes she finds herself imagining what it might be like to dress as her Sylveon. Would that be…cute?

Arven didn’t care much about Halloween last year. He just stayed in on the night of the party and didn’t pay much mind to all the decorations and stuff. Something’s different this year, though. He sees how eager and excited Violetta is about all of it - she gushes about it to him as they’re eating their Herba Mystica sandwiches in that cave between Mesagoza and Artazon - and he’s kind of wanting to check it all out. Or just kind of wanting to see her react to all of it. Something about her makes him feel different, better, like he has Vivillons in his stomach in a good way. He looked up “guys halloween costume ideas that girls like” online and read that girls like vampire costumes. Would Violetta like that?

Violetta is excited by all of this fun and merriment. Halloween wasn’t as much of a thing back in Galar. Her old school didn’t mark the event and she only recalled seeing a few little decorations here and there around Wyndon. Certainly she wouldn’t have been allowed to go to any parties or go trick-or-treating, either - there were always guests at the B&B, after all. But now here she is in a new region with a new attitude. She wants to try everything that calls out to her, whether that means the Pikachu jack o’lantern cookie sandwiches in the dining hall or dressing up as Spriggy, her Sprigatito, for the party. She found a Sprigatito ear headband in town and the RA on her floor is going to do her makeup to look just like Spriggy. She’s even thought about buying a fake tail to clip onto her belt loop. The Halloween party is going to be a lot of fun. Hey…is Arven going to be there?

note | card collecting couple :) the same jisung from the love letter hyunjin fic i wrote (perhaps) / my sister gave me this scenario after i bought some cute pokemon cards, and i just had to.

felix thought you were a bit harsh when you left him a threat in his direct message, but more importantly, he has no idea why you even needed to threaten him with a 'scammer!!!' (with three exclamation marks specifically) label in the first place.

he gave you what you requested: a pack of cute pokémon cards, regardless of rarity, for your pikachu vmax rainbow card.

the way you leveled him across the table made him shiver. you looked angry, almost, but something about how your brows furrowed screamed disappointment and disbelief. he assumed all the passersby noticed the absolute destructive gaze you weighed onto his shoulders because whoever tried to take the empty seat next to him promptly scurried away.

you sat staring at him for a while, attempting to conjure something to say. the furrow in your brows was tight and heavy, not because you disliked the situation that brought you both together, but rather that you had no idea the lee felix you have been chatting with after being forcibly inserted into the campus card-trading group chat was attractive. soft features and warm clothes, fidgety hands and careful eyes, felix just looked like an honest, cute boy.

you felt somewhat embarrassed about everything—the absurd deal you made, the threat you shot him, and the demand you made asking him to bring his collection binder to school. if there was a first impression to be made, yours was already done for.

"here are some of the cards jisung gave me," you said as you knocked the stack of cards against the table to even them out before sliding them to the middle of the table. "sorry i couldn't meet up with you instead. i hope jisung kept pikachu safe in his–"

"textbook." felix finished the sentence for you with a pained smile. the card was not damaged, but thinking about the huge chances of it being so when it had been lying flat in one of jisung's thick textbooks made him cringe. "it's better than him putting it in his wallet, i reckon."

"trust me, it is," you muttered with a sneer.

jisung has been the messenger, the middleman, the post office worker for your card trading endeavors. very rarely would you meet up with a classmate to receive and give your cards—a product of your introverted personality and busy schedule. besides that, being the charmer he was, jisung has been able to sneak his way into people's collection binder and grab you a few extra cards on the way without fail. you never knew why he was allowed to do that, but as long as it benefited your collection, you didn't care.

you just wished he had better taste and care for these trading cards.

"did you not like them?" felix asked when he reached out to take the stack of cards back. he felt them in his hands—they felt new, still—and observed the pictures with a saddened frown on his face. he whispered as he flipped through the cards carefully, "i handpicked them, too."

"i did like some of them, but most of them were…" you pursed your lips together to shut yourself up. when he looked up at you, prompting you to continue with those bright eyes of his, you found it even harder to tell him off. "felix, i asked for cute cards. cards with cute illustrations."

he placed the cards on the table and scratched his head. "i know. i did give you most of the cute cards i have! i even parted with some of the ones i liked–" he, frantically even, reached for the stack and flipped through it before pulling one out, "look! this is one of my favorites!"

he gulped when you eyed the card in his hand with disinterest and back into his eyes, the previously generously glint fading with each second. you leaned against the back of the chair and crossed your arms, feeling a hurdle of mocking giggles trying to escape your lips. you swallowed them down seriously.

"you can keep that one," you said, and it nearly broke felix's good little heart.

"what's wrong with the card? it's so cute!" he argued.

"it's mr. mime."

"mr. mime is cute!"

you stared blankly at him, clearly in disagreement. but more importantly, you were occupied with a sudden awakening, a final realization, as you eyed the deck of cards in front of felix. your eyes met his animated expression—wide-eyed and mouth pouty in defense of a magical creature that would probably trap him in four invisible walls and throw him in the river as a funny prank.

you asked for enough cute pokémon cards worth of one rare pikachu card, and he had earnestly picked them out for you from his own collection. in no way was felix trying to scam you. he just genuinely thought the cards he picked out were cute. he just gave every pokémon a chance to be adorable regardless of their design. you couldn't find it in yourself to disagree with him.

"you're right," you said with a nod as you beckoned with your hands. "he is cute. give me the cards back, i'll take them."

you would separate a page in your collection binder of strictly cute pokémon cards, marked behind that page were not necessarily cards that fit the theme of your collection, but rather a collection of cards given to you by a very adorable boy called lee felix.

favorite childhood sport? i did tennis all of middle and high school, explicitly because of ryoma echizen prince of tennis lol. i was on varsity! i also figure skated as a kid. both are still fun when i get the chance

omg hi Sofie!! :0 Get ready because I have a whole lot to say about this.

Most Beloved:

Number 1: Squirtle

My absolute favorite is squirtle. What's funny about this is I can't really pinpoint a specific reason why I like him so much. My first pokemon game was alpha sapphire, and I didn't play gen 1 until Let's Go Eevee, so it's not a nostalgia factor. I think my brain just subconsciously selected him back when I was watching the Indigo League anime in middle school. The squirtle squad showed up and my brain was like "Yeah. This guy. He's awesome. This is the one." And he has been my number 1 favorite fella ever since then, and as a consequence he is the pokemon I have the most merch of and it isn't really close.

Please keep in mind this is just what I have in my apartment where I live for college, and that I have even more stuff in my bedroom back at home. Now that I think about it, Koopa Troopa is my favorite mario character, so maybe I have an affinity for characters that are just little turtles. Either way, water is also my favorite type, which means even more bonus points for squirtle.

Number 2: Riolu

Riolu's high ranking has been somewhat of a recent development for me. I've always liked lucario, but I didn't see the light that was riolu until after I watched Pokemon Journeys. Ash's riolu was so silly and adorable, and I always felt so bubbly inside when he was on screen. This shift in my preference is probably due to me developing a major soft spot for cute characters/creatures over the past few years. Most of my favorite pokemon at this point are just little guys because of it. Anyways, the reason I like him so much is because of the aura control him and lucario are capable of. I've always loved aura as a power system; the idea of being able to harness one's own life energy and see it in others is just so cool to me. I especially like how it's established as its own concept outside of moves in pokemon, making it something super unique that only riolu's evolutionary line can take advantage of. I have a lot of lore/worldbuilding ideas for PMD that would utilize aura. For example, Milo, the protagonist of the PMD verse I've been brainstorming, on is a riolu with much stronger aura than normal due to him being a pokemon with a human soul. I have a lot of ideas for how I could use this concept to drive plot points or character arcs, and I might share more in the future if I ever get time to start solidifying a story.

By the way, Milo's partner, Lilly, is a squirtle. No way I don't give both of my two favorites the spotlight.

Number 3: Sprigatito

My love of sprigatito is really quite simple. I love cats. So much. They are easily my number one favorite animal of all time. My Instagram feed is covered in them. So imagine my excitement when I saw that one of the new generation 9 starters was a kitty. My violet team is my favorite team I've ever used in a pokemon game, and the sprigatito line is a massive part of why I love it so much. Sprigatito is adorable, and my meowscarada was so much fun to use after he evolved. On top of that, sprigatito's depiction in Pokemon Horizons makes me love it even more. It's literally just a cat. It loafs. It makes biscuits.. It gets annoyed at the mildest inconvenience. Liko squishes its beans. Plus it releases a super sweet scent when you cuddle it as a bonus. It's so perfect. It's like Game Freak was like "Yeah this is the perfect pokemon for Ray, put it in the game." I have a sprigatito character in my PMD verse named Mayple, but I can't share much about her because it would mean dropping pretty big spoilers for a plot point I have planned.

Honorable Mentions: Greninja and Ceruledge

I love ninjas. I love frogs. Greninja is both. And ceruledge is just objectively one of the coolest pokemon designs ever.

In terms of behated pokemon, I don't have many that I personally despise. It's more so that I feel indifferent about them, and I would simply prefer not to use them on my teams. Usually I don't have any real reason to dislike the ones I do hate; I think it just stems from a gut feeling. The biggest one off the top of my head is the tepig line. I don't know what it is, something just feels off about them. I also dislike incineroar. I like litten and torracat a lot, but they really dropped the ball with the final evolution for me.

What was the last thing you laughed at? I laughed while on the phone with my mom a bit ago - not necessarily over anything in particular; more like a conversational laugh, if that makes sense.

How many times have you visited the beach in your lifetime? Just a couple of times. Once when we visited California when I was a child, and then again as a teen when we visited Ocean City, NJ.

Do you know anyone personally who has committed murder? Um…I hope not.

Do you use temper glass phone screen protectors? No, but I do have a case for it.

Have you ever cracked your phone screen badly? I think I might have cracked a screen before, but I'm not sure. Possibly my first Nokia cell phone.

Would you ever take up pole dancing as a hobby? It would definitely help me build up a lot of strength and muscle, but no, that's not my scene. I'd be much more interested in something like rock climbing.

What is one of your most prized possessions? You know, I don't really have any prized possessions. There are things I use often or cherish for sentimental reasons, sure, but nothing stands out above the rest.

Do you find commercials/ads to be amusing or just annoying? Mostly just annoying.

Do you prefer incense, candles, or something else for making your house smell nice? I recently bought some Febreze air mist (baked cinnamon apples), but I don't think it's for me. A little too overpowering and not as "warm" of a scent as I was hoping.

How many pets/children do you have? I have three cats and zero children.

Have you ever accidentally stolen something? I can't think of anything, but a year or two ago, my dad accidentally "stole" a box of chocolate from the store. He went all the way back to pay for it after realizing his mistake.

What was the last thing you needed help with? Getting my car door to open yesterday morning. For some reason, the manual key wasn't working, but then suddenly the little remote key clicker was? I thought that thing was dead.

What's the most expensive article of clothing you own? I don't think any clothing item I own is more than 50 dollars.

What's one of your favorite memories from your childhood? My first backpacking trip with my dad and childhood friend Aurora. I think we were in middle school at the time. We were allowed to camp at the top of the trail near the Devil's Head lookout tower. Got to hang out with the ranger and his two boys who were around our age.

What do you do when you start to feel depressed or really down? I've been feeling unusually down since the end of November. It's probably a combination of factors. There's nothing I can really do aside from be kind to myself and continue to put one foot in front of the other. The fog lifts eventually.

When was the last time you checked your mail? My dad is the one who checks the mail.

Do you do positive affirmations daily? Not as a consistent intentional practice, but whenever I catch myself thinking too negatively and have the presence of mind to do so, I try to reframe my thoughts into something more positive. I'm so hard on myself and it's just not necessary, not helpful.

When was the last time you had to replace the batteries in something? My dad replaced the batteries in the scale in his bathroom so I could weigh myself. I've got a doctor's appointment coming up in mid-January and I didn't want to be too surprised by the number. I haven't weighed myself since maybe March, but it was right around where I thought it would be.

-took Latin due to being too into mythology… Still suffering the consequences of this middle school choice

-name was mispronounced by Latin teacher for multiple years. Never corrected him

-just remembered this one. Everyone had to submit drawings for a Latin assignment, which were displayed in class for months. Drew some furry shit. Did not get bullied for this (but was bullied previously!)

-straight up said “I’d rather die than live as a woman” in college essay, was shown to two HS teachers, somehow ended up in the final draft anyways????

-ended up going to a college I was certain I would not get into, after applying to it a couple hours before the deadline. Only applied because my dad asked me to. Typing this while lying in my dorm! :P

what are 3 things you’d say shaped you into who you are?

3 things that shaped me into who I am... First is definitely my favorite video games, especially kh and pokemon. Growing up, I didn't have many friends and I was getting ignored and bullied a lot, to the point where I actually started to believe that there was something wrong with me and people were right to treat me the way they did. But while playing video games, I felt like I escaped that, I felt happy and confident and motivated. Secondly I'm gonna say my family, especially my mom and my cousins, who always supported me (I sound like I'm giving an Oscars speech lol). And lastly, my change in school in middle school. My family and my video games kept me afloat during the hard times, but this was the event that ended them for good.

9. tell a story about your childhood

AKA more summer shenanigans. This happened when I was 13 and me, my cousins and our friends were the local biker gang (we had bikes not motorcycles tho. At least for a while.) and we would roam around the town on our bikes, doing races and rides down the downwards roads. But our absolute favorite thing to do was messing with a very grumpy and very very quick-tempered old lady that lived right next to the town's playground and had a... disdain for a lot of things. Like kids playing and laughing at a place that was designed specifically for that cause. And she made that disdain very very clear on multiple occasions towards multiple kids and she was never exactly... polite about it (Important note, all of this was alwayshappeningin the afternoon. The usual time everyone was out, so it wasn't like noon or late at night). And our gang, being the rebellious ne'er-do-well (technically) teens, made it its official goal to become the bane of her existence. There's lots of stuff we did to annoy this lady, but one of my favorites was this:

I mentioned that her house was right next to the playground, but it was also next to a general area, that was mostly used by kids as a biking park (or biking area at least, it was too small to be an actual park). We and a bunch of others loved this place and despite the lady yelling at us we spent a lot of time there, until one day, the lady among her usual yelling started including our parents and families in her insults and she also started using a hose at us. So in return we put some empty plastic bottles on the back wheels of our bikes, which when moving made them sound like motorcycles and started going all over the area, driving her insane and actually covering her voice so we wouldn't hear her. That was our way to handle her yelling, and for her hose, we decided to bring some water of our own. We were already using water balloons a lot, but this gave us more motivation to do so, since we filled the balloons and played with them and during our games some of them "accidentally" ended up in the lady's yard. And when she tried to complain to our families, they all stood up for us, even other parents and adults, because surprise surprise when you're being an entitled, mean piece of crap to kids just having fun, no one supports you. And after that she stopped yelling at us and all the kids altogether. There was probably more stuff going on, like I'm sure there were talks between her and the adults, but I like to think that thanks to our shenanigans, a mean person stopped messing with the other kids.

28. do you collect anything?

I recently started a funko pop collection, but only got 4 of them so far. Though I am about to add some more soon (some Arcane and TOH pops to be exact).

30. what’s one thing that never fails to make you happy/happier?

It says just one thing, so I'm gonna say my video games, since for almost as long as I can remember they've been a big source of comfort for me.
