year 1997.
often times, we do not get to choose our heroes. even if we can, we do not get to decide the manner in which they go about their journey.
year 2004.
tokyo was never quiet, but it wasn’t always this noisy.
huge explosion at a lab, reportedly no survivors. minako paid little attention to the news and went on her way out. she doesn’t like ruin. she doesn’t like destruction. she doesn’t like what was going on with the world. that was usually a good thing. kids around her age liked seeing it on television, even cheers when a fight’s about to go down at school.
six year old minako was an abiding citizen who had no idea she would regret opposing to unlawful exercise of force. it doesn’t take a whole day.
voices babbled all around her. it processed like a signal, equal in intensity at different frequencies. she wasn’t here. she was in a world aquiver, blurring at the edges. the room was no more than a visual joke. it didn’t have to be.
year 2005.
forget that her parents were rarely around to tend to her and her little brother. they were completely gone, finally. she understood before why things had to be the way they were. sacrifices are supposed to be made constantly. mom said, “we have to work to achieve your future’s certainty.” but they were gone. all the cold nights waiting was for naught.
act i. the siblings only have each other.
how can a young girl fend for herself and another child? fukui daiki, six years old, orphan. the nagging thought of it worried minako more than the wherewithal left of their parents’ memory. it stayed as it was. a kid with very little interests surrounding her, few tight knit friendships, and bound by circumstances, a close relationship with her younger brother.
it struck her like lightning, feeling green around to the pit of her stomach. visions doesn’t help cure a heart. systematic studies are no good if you’re six feet under. she wondered why it had to be her brother that suffered. over and over. she wished to take back those seconds and choose again. choose to refuse hearkening such tidings. and in the pensive temper, she became trapped under the weight of mediocrity she then identified herself with. not even twenty four hours of good comedy could put her at ease. why him instead of me?
act ii. fukui minako is forced to mature.
she grew withdrawn and introspective, letting in no one else but her only family. the idiosyncrasies stick, taking away the rudimentary aptitude to form blood oaths. she had embraced the meaning of isolation, highlighting it as boon. emotional odds hibernated in her, then she encouraged herself to never indulge in feeling.
year 2012.
the pacifist became at war with herself.
daiki catches up to her and the rumors spread. it wasn’t enough that they persistently chased for her despite the ceaseless rejections sent back their way. they found her out. they learned the way to clip her claws.
“they’re too close.” “i thought i was the only one who noticed.” “it’s pretty abnormal. i bet they’re getting it on.” “you think? actually, i heard the uncle is rarely home…” “who knows what they do when he’s away?” "oh my god…” “see?” “so that explains why she doesn’t entertain suitors. i honestly thought she was just a lesbian freak.”
and again she asked, why him instead of me? yet daiki shoulders it, he even returns her a smile. nothing she had done deserved her this mercy. she wanted to protect her little brother like the glorious hero she thought she was supposed to be. she had done everything but.
it didn’t stop her from trying. he needed a reason to keep surviving. her resolution sent her to amateur boxing.
year 2014.
the great irony is that she’s the one who gets to live. the last man standing, and yet she’s lost the fight. life becomes utterly meaningless.
year 2015.
it’s time to accept. everything that lives is designed to end. they are perpetually trapped in a never-ending spiral of life and death. however, life is all about the struggle within this cycle. all that had happened were essential parts to the blueprint. there’s no other way than forward so off she goes, back to her roots.
year 2018.
she finds herself at the wrong place, at the wrong time.
her breath goes from quiet to a panting gasp. she had sucked the air as if it had grown thick, almost too difficult to draw in. she became deaf to the noise, rapidly backtracking on her previously tough stance but by then it was irreversible. gunshots fired, the police reaches the scene. they all point at her, the person who refuses to bear arms.
trials bring her future to a standstill. daiki is gone, there was no other target of suffering other than her. her wishes do come true in the end, albeit too late. “this is what happens when you cross us. you better hope you never see us again.” the last thing she heard from them, then a probation and a fine. be that as it may, she didn’t think this to be too bad. with the kind of fate she had grappled with so far, things could have been worse. they did say, “you’re in luck, kid.” even though it only meant she just wasn’t important enough to bother with.
maybe not this time.
year 2019.
it started small. a few off-hand remarks, the occasional glance, the whispers. but even the smallest things have weight, and with enough of them combined, that weight eventually becomes a boulder. emotions boil over. remarks become jeers. she is indebted to the instinct of defense. for someone with that burden, she’s the perfect target for discrimination.
act i. the journey of the fool begins.
a future is not given. it is something that must be taken by yourself. this is the least of moments to have giving up as an option.
her seemingly infinite patience finally breaks.
act ii. he who dwells from within awakens.
“i have heeded your resolve. vow to me. i am thou, thou art i. thou who art willing to perform all sacrilegious acts for thine own justice! call upon my name, and release thy rage! show the strength of thy will to ascertain all on thine own, though thou be chain to hell itself!” says he who conspires against people more evil than him.
act iii. 35.6466° n, 139.6532° e.
it leads back to where it starts. mother said, “your father is a good man.” but his work doesn’t prove true to her words. minako had done everything for the sake of the promised time that would one day arrive but she pressed on forward, believing in a lie. though it felt as if success was as unlikely as finding a lost sand grain in the desert, she still has to attempt it. she still has to try. she walks with renewed purpose. she’s found her new family now.
she does not get to choose her heroes, but she sure can be one for herself and others.

Uchitama 7 - 8 | Eizouken 8 - 9 | ID: INVADED 8 - 11 | Iruma-kun 22 - 23 (FINAL) | BnHA 82 - 83
Uchitama 7
Lemme guess…this is the ve-Yep.
The name of this segment is Ottamake. The ke means fur/hair, but it does seem like it’s referring to Tama otherwise.
For some reason, Bull’s really into cats…
LOL, you can see the cat food right there is a real brand. I dunno how they got away with that.
Hmm, this show has something to say about idol business…and it does it better than some of the human idol shows! That says something.
It even comments on the “graduation” system. Whaddaya know.
Welp, I never thought an anime could pull off this with a commentary on gender presentation, to boot. (It’s not as pervasive as Stars Align’s, but it’s still one of the better ones. I guess I shouldn’t expect it as a norm though.) I thought Kai was a dude though and so Bull’s interactions came off to me as massively gay. I’ve been thinking, maybe he’s pan? Can dogs be pansexual???
Why do I get the feeling Kai is going to be introduced into 3-chome? Update: Doesn’t happen.
This song sounds very idol-like.
Uchitama 8
Aww…I feel like we’re going to learn Nora’s backstory soon. I think it’s going to be real sad.
…Yup, there goes my kokoro. Smol Nora is cute~!
Genki can mean “healthy” as well as “energetic” – the latter is why it’s translated as “spunky”.
Why do I get the feeling Nora’s owner died…?
Oh, smol Nora has a bandaid on his leg.
Let me ask the essential furry question – they hav human ears and animal ears. Which of those sets of ears do they hear with?
Yuuki Kaji does a good job as Nora.
This song’s so sad, it almost got me crying…
Eizouken 8
This anime is like something from Studio Trigger!
The magic of Eizouken is that you get sucked into the anime they make and never look back.
Tomodachi vs. nakama, I think it is.
Id: Invaded 8
Lately, I’ve been thinking about practical cosplay (everyday wear that also doubles as a cosplay outfit). So basically, I’ve been thinking about Sakaido and El-Melloi II’s outfits a lot, since they’re rather practical while still looking cool. All I’m missing for El-Melloi’s outfit with the red jacket is a black button-up shirt, for El-Melloi’s outfit with the black jacket I’m missing a red scarf and I’m missing a brown button-up shirt for Sakaido’s (although the yellow scarf I got today to get one step closer to two of those isn’t the right mustard colour, it’s more of a lighter yellow).
Also, I noticed it’s (according to the katakana) meant to be “Id: Invaded”, but heck, it’s been ID: Invaded for so long for me, I don’t care either way.
Kiki was born in Fukui.
I always thought Mister Fixer sounded sad and now I think I know why…the bit I remember the most (the line that goes “Mister Fixer” and the bit around it) sounds like the singer is lamenting their life. Now that I see the visuals again after a few weeks (I’d get fatigued if I watched all that Fate/ and still managed to keep up with simulcasts, so I’ve been taking the simulcasts in a few eps at one time), Mister Fixer does quite sound like a crime drama song, but not as much as Thought I Knew (from Stand My Heroes).
I’ve seen images of Anaido and Sakaido in the same well for a few weeks now, so this cooperation bit is no surprise at all.
I believe Fukuda is asking why Narihisago is a –san to her even though they’ve worked together a while.
The words “data profile” are in one corner of the titlecard.
Does Anaido remember who he is in the ID Well? I presume not, but it’s hard to tell since we haven’t had as much time with him as we have Sakaido (not to mention I’ve been regularly filling my head with Fate/ and other things as well lately…so it’s hard to remember).
It’s interesting. Fukuda has the same piercings as Anaido (and even a ring on one pointer finger that matches them!), so he must’ve tried experimenting with…more legal holes, to put it one way…before getting his most iconic one.
Kaeru’s nails are chipped. Hmm.
In #Brake-Broken, which I read the first chapter of earlier (there’s a sample on the Young Ace website), Sakaido notices he doesn’t have a phone with him to call anyone or a licence (because in that manga, he wakes up in a car). It’s likely this will work the same way and Anaido won’t have any possessions on him, aside from the clothes on his back, accessories and the item that was stolen from his wrist/s.
Rings on both fingers…so I should be talking about them in plural. Update: I like how Anaido’s off-the-wall thought processes break up the inherent seriousness of Sakaido’s deductions and utilitarian way of doing things.
Anaido, you grimdark f***er. Update: For trying to eat a dead girl.
Okay, so for the sake of my practical cosplay, I knew I’d need this episode. Sakaido wears a long-sleeve brown shirt with some kind of shirt under that (either brown or black), plus a mustard-coloured scarf. (Note El-Melloi II wears a black shirt under his black button-up shirt, so I went with black as well.) In Brake Broken, I also noticed he wears dark socks (or that could be the leggings) and runners with a lightning bolt on them (I had to make do with generic black runners with a white stripe on the bottom), plus the iconic brown shorts over those (with a triangle pattern)…Why does Sakaido have a scarf anyway, versus Anaido and Miyo who don’t? As much as I like scarves, especially where colder weather is involved, getting a specific colour scarf was a bit of a headache to be honest, since I took 3 trips before deciding on the one I was going to buy (and even then, someone got it before me! The scarf I have now was my 2nd choice). Update: The shorts, leggings and undershirt are black, but I don’t know if Sakaido is wearing any socks or if they’re black too.
Just to note what Anaido has as well (although a coat like that, with the red detailing and flaps, would be hard to find…), he has a blue coat, suspenders, a white button-up top, a string tie (had to google what that was called, although its name is pretty obvious now that I know), black pants (which kinda look like leggings, but they’re not) and leather boots.
Now Sakaido can go into the loony bin…he’s talking to Kaeru.
Is Anaido going in circles? Sakaido caught up real fast…
Um, hey, protip: When stuck in quicksand, try to “float” on it. If you move, you’ll sink into it more. I don’t know how I know that, but I did stick it into my mind for times like this.
Notably, Anaido is about a head taller than Sakaido. Either Sakaido is unnaturally short and Anaido is average…or Anaido is just tall in that way some men are.
Did the bird get to this dude…?
There appears to be a man with a bun facing Hondomachi in the ED, although you can’t tell who it is from silhouette alone…Maybe he hasn’t appeared in the show yet. (Can’t be Matsuoka though. Might be the old guy who’s the head of Kura, actually.)
Update: Is the dead guy Momoki…?
Id: Invaded 9
It’s the familiar ceiling scene from Evangelion! (Okay, I’m kidding, but it’s a similar deal.)
I think the rules of Fate/ are “do it all, until you can no longer do it” (i.e. Everything is the same, until it’s different). It seems it’s the same here too.
Huh? Momoki?
“It doesn’t seem friendly.” – Yeah, and people die whe they are killed…in murder mysteries like this, usually speaking.
I noticed Narihisago’s tie is the same colour as his Sakaido jacket, if not the shirt under that.
Where did the Challenger’s clothes go after he took them off??? Hyperspace??? He wasn’t shown tossing them.
So Kaeru was Asukai all along, huh?
“Look at this.”
“It makes me think about him.” Subbers, that’s two mistakes in less than 1 minute…
I saw a fanart where Narihisago had his arm broken. I didn’t know why, but now I do. Also, TV Tropes is bad if you want to avoid spoilers…I know that already, but I go there anyway sometimes...
“It makes me wanna puke.”
Iruma-kun 22
The anime’s final episode is next week…but there’s already a season 2 in store for next year, so hopefully I survive the coronavirus and sort out all my issues this year in time for it.
Dat OP though. I’ve grown used to it and it’s actually endeared itself to me…which is odd, since I didn’t think I’d like it at first.
Demdol = akudol. Obviously, from “demon”.
Was that…Clara’s mother???  Kuromu’s older bro doesn’t look too bad, either.
Ohmygosh, this is fabulousssssssssss (and hilarious)! I’ve been waiting for this moment for many episodes, as you can tell if you’ve been following along, and I finally got the payoff!
Clara ends her sentence with –akuma (devil), hence the translation is matching it the same way.
Oh my gosh, Ryouhei Kimura (Azz-kun) sucks at being feminine, but that’s exactly what the role requires for this!
If you just pretend Azz-kun isn’t dressed in such an outlandish outfit, he looks really good…! Ayumu Murase does a pretty good falsetto, although you can tell there’s one point where Kimura’s voice gets really manly-sounding for a lady.
“Little imp” – Koakuma.
Oh! The Keroli family is all cute.
Ooh, Kuromu’s nails are blue. Never noticed that before.
Eizouken 9
Chojugiga are ancient pictures normally depicting animals. As for sepak takraw…
I wonder if Eizouken will tackle the Manabi Line one day…?
That’s a parallel for Comiket, LOL.
“A colossus that no one can see!” – Gridman, is that you?
When did Kanamori meet Asakusa again…?
Kanamori with a bun is cool.
“There is nothing fun about social media!” – Well, social media is fun for me because it’s where I escape reality, but sometimes you gotta be like Kanamori and use it for publicity’s sake.
LOL, the username for the Eizouken is @eizoukenn.
I just realised Mizusaki’s hairstyle is irregular…it’s much longer on on side than the other.
“Mizusaki bump” – I think this references the Colbert bump. (TV Tropes link)
Kanamori – she with the word “gold”…or “money”…in her name – struggles with maths? Wow, that was something to hear. (I guess it’s kinda like me and IT (cybersecurity) – I suck at it because I suck at modulos…or division in short…and even though I can be found on my computer a lot, that’s why I don’t pursue it any longer. I was decent at accounting, but man, I’d be bored out of my brain if you made me do business IT and I have zero skills in games and multimedia.)
“Was it thuggery?” – What’s thuggery? That word sounds funny.
Did you see how Asakusa fell off the tank?
I did CR’s Eizouken quiz sometime in the past and it gave me Asakusa. That’s true, basically. I like thinking up ideas and how cool they are, but because I can’t stop from elaborating on them, they get out of hand and that’s why I have a tonne of dropped projects. (Then again, with how freely I can imagine motion, I could’ve gotten Mizusaki too.) Update: Tried again and I actually did get Mizusaki…whaddaya know.
Id: Invaded 10
People have been comparing this to Minority Report…now I see why.
I almost feel like this is a discussion of euthanasia and suicide as much as it is memory and the consciousness.
Ohh…she remembers! Hondomachi!
You can’t see Muku’s face! Ohh, scary!
Aww, the music really sold this montage. By the way, that sign didn’t say “entrance ceremony”, it said nyuugaku omedetou, “Congratulations on your entry [into school]”.
It…this singer almost sounds like Bruno Mars, but that would be basically impossible, no?
Oh my gosh…when the song swelled, I absolutely cried. That’s rare, man – that’s rare.
BnHA 82
I think the leftmost figure might be Miruko, the rabbit lady. I’ve never read anything about her outside of wiki pages ad other small spoilers, but I roughly know what she looks like.
What does Gentle mean by “Anglaise”? Surely it wouldn’t refer to cream…(crème anglaise)
LOL, Disneyland parades…
Whew…that was dangerous. I almost agreed with Mineta there (to get the festival over and done with).
I swear Midoriya gets together with All Might, just like this, at the end or start of a climactic arc. He did it in the last season of BnHA, remember?
BnHA 83
Hmm…It’s interesting that the author likes to point out who has and hasn’t met Eri. Then again, it’s good for consistency.
LOL, Amajiki my boy…you’re so relatable.
Hmm…amidst the coronavirus concerns…this cancellation business seems quite timely.
Oh! It’s a drone.
For some reason, I thought Sero was drinking vegetable juice…? Eh, no matter. They have vegetable juice in Japan – I remember seeing some on my trip.
Hmm? Gentle is like a phantom thief, I just realised. Mostly harmless, but bound to cause a big stir if he gets his way.
What is Gentle’s Quirk, anyway…?
Work Son…LOL(…?)
Who bets their moustache on this stuff, anyway…? (LOL)
Iruma 23 (FINAL)
I don’t get to see Iruma become evil this season…but he will next season! That visual I’ve been seeing by the original mangaka confirms it!
Marathon - the demon puns are back.
Demonicon =Oricon chart.
Demon Star Platinum…was that…a Jojo’s reference?! *scare chord*
Oh! Maguro (tuna).
Azz-kun being afraid of fish? That’s news to me.
Okay, subbers. Whose idea was it to translate Iruma’s words as “My feels…”…?
There’s a post-credits segment. Keep watching.
Yay! Evil Iruma-kun!...In spring 2021. (I’ve never once been so excited for a character to turn evil than this! I also like how evil Iruma said it’s the “buttcrack” of dawn…but that’s just my immature side showing.)
Id: Invaded 11
“…being taken for a ride!” – Well, you’re in a car, so you’re getting a ride nonetheless. (LOL) I hadn’t heard of the term “being taken for a ride” until…what? 2016, I think? When I was still doing language anaylsis.
Sakaido used Headbutt! It’s…kind of effective? (Writing up these pseudo-Pokémon battles is fun. I should write more.)
“…put a drill to your head…”
“The victims of John Walker’s serial killers…”
I noticed Hondomachi is touching the side of her head which had the hole in it…if I remembered it right.
Is it “the Kura”? Or just Kura?
August 15th is a popular date for anime, huh? It’s in the middle of summer. (Refers to Kagerou Project.)
That ‘who knew you needed to lose something to be complete’ thing…I think I get it, but for some reason I only ever seem to get that feeling when it’s me trying to read asexuality into things (since that’s how I learnt to interpret asexuality), so…yeah, way to go, me.
Wait…Togo visited Momoki’s bedroom?!
Yep, so I was right about that being the side with Hondomachi’s hole.

[41/200] Hikone Castle (2021-10-02) We're heading towards Fukui prefecture this time, using the 2021 Aki no Norihodai discount ticket! This is actually my second time in Hikone, but the castle keeps were temporarily closed due to the emerging CoVID-19 situation last time. With the State of Emergency having officially ended recently, we can finally check this one off! What's more is that we're finally blessed with a sunny weekend, and I think I did a pretty good job at capturing this October's selection of castles so please look forward to my upcoming albums! Back in 2013-2014, I studied at Kumamoto University and Kumamon's popularity was at its peak. Even now, you'll find Kumamon around almost every single corner in Japan. Though seriously, Hikonyan the cat samurai is the #1 mascot in my books. Just look at him! Too adorable. But I digress. Similar to Azuchi Castle, this Castle used to be directly on Lake Biwa's shoreline. Originally, this area was protected by a different castle on top of the mountain: Sawayama Castle. However, this castle fell to the Ii clan after the Battle of Sekigahara. Ii Naomasa then strategically relocated to Hikone Castle, and the castle remained until the present day. This castle was spared from the One Castle Per Province Decree simply because the Emperor was visiting the area and directly requested for it to stay. Later on, it was also not bombed during World War II as the war had ended before the scheduled airstrike. I'm just glad it still stands.

Mainstream society References in World of Warcraft - Part I
Tumblr media
Have you ever acknowledged exactly what number of references there are to "mainstream society" in the World of Warcraft games? Indeed, there are LOTS! In case you're similar to me, you'll discover this stuff intriguing. A portion of these things are way self-evident, yet some of them are pretty dark. It makes you wonder...did these folks intentionally lounge around and put these references in, or would they say they were only a characteristic aftereffect of being a piece of the present society? In any case, it makes for some pretty intriguing perusing, and it will make you watch for additional references (since I'm not going to reveal to you every one of them in this article - possibly not even in ANY article....mmwwaahahaha).
Alright, back to the genuine me...or WAS that the genuine me? Anyway, how about we begin with the mainstream society references. Yet, where to begin? Warcraft? Warcraft II? Warcraft III? Universe of Warcraft? The Burning Crusade? Truly, it's actual. They've ALL got heaps of mainstream society references. Yet, how about we start toward the start, will we? Since they began light, we will as well. However, not to stress - there are bounty more where these come from!
In Warcraft: Humans and Orcs, to empower cheat mode, you type "Corwin of Amber. Corwin is a character in a progression of books called The Chronicles of Amber, by Roger Zelazny. Visit here  NaijaVibe is a pop culture and entertainment website
Yet, we're simply beginning! How about we proceed onward to Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness. 1. The audio effects of the blade battling are taken legitimately from the soundtrack of the Black Knight scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
2. The cheat code for limitless mana and all spells investigated is "each seemingly insignificant detail she does". This, obviously, is a line from the Police melody "Each Little Thing She Does Is Magic". Cool, huh?
3. What about this... "onscreen" is a guide cheat code and "makeitso" is a quick form cheat. In the event that those expressions sound recognizable, this is on the grounds that they are habitually utilized by Captain Picard on Star Trek TNG! Additionally from the show, "It is a decent day to kick the bucket", a Klingon saying, is an insusceptibility cheat. The REAL starting point of that state, however, lies in Greek history. At the Battle of Thermopylae. Leonidas' military got no opportunity of winning against the Persians, and this expression is the thing that he said to the Persian messenger who came to request his acquiescence.
Presently on to Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos/The Frozen Throne. In the event that I recorded them all here, this article would go on for eternity. In any case, I will show a portion of the one I for one find especially funny.
o "Nananananananana... ME!!" - Troll Batrider (Batman)
o "Look! In the Sky! It's a fledgling! It's a plane! It's me!" - Windrider (Superman)
o "Mortar Kombat!" - Dwarven Mortar Team (Mortal Kombat)
o "I took your valuable" - Spellbreaker (Gollum in LOTR)
o "In the profundities, nobody can hear you shout. Well...they can, however it's truly stifled." - Naga Royal Guard (popular line from Alien...sorta...LOL)
o "There is no Banshee, just ZUUL!" - Banshee (Sigourney Weaver once more, this time in Ghostbusters)
o "There is no spoon." This cheat for limitless mana comes from The Matrix.
o "Make proper acquaintance with my little companion." - Troll Headhunter (Al Pacino in Scarface)
o "keysersoze" is a cheat code to get additional gold. It alludes, obviously, to the film The Usual Suspects, wherein Keyser Soze is the puzzling wrongdoing boss...*wink*.
o Monty Python and the Holy Grail: these are only a couple...
* "I never state NI!" - Knight (The Knights who state Ni)
* "Help! Help! I'm being quelled!" - Peasant (Dennis the sacred worker)
* "You're the ruler? All things considered, I didn't decide in favor of you!" - Peasant (The Fifth Harvesting Peasants)
* "We have a witch! May we consume her?" - Peasant (witch consuming scene)
* "It's just a substance wound!" - Footman (The Black Knight)
o Star Wars...just giving you a restricted not many here, as well...
* "When you head down the dull way, everlastingly will it overwhelm your predetermination. Also, you got dental." - Acolyte (Yoda - sorta...LOL)
* "We aren't the Dryads no doubt about it." ("These aren't the droids that is no joke" - Episode IV)
* "Finally we will have vengeance" - Demon Hunter (Darth Maul - Episode I)
o "I see dead individuals" - Far Seer
"Me eat dead individuals" - Ghoul
"I see undead individuals" - Necromancer
(All, obviously, references to Haley Joel Osment's declaration in The Sixth Sense).
o "Snap me infant, once again" - Sorceress (Britney Spears)
o "Shot through the heart, and I'm at fault" - Archer (Bon Jovi)
o "Where I lay my head is home! You see that rock? That is my cushion!" - Rexxar (Metallica...sorta...LOL)

Why Japanese Baseball Fans Are As Riveting As The Game Itself
Tumblr media
Baseball, known locally as yakyuu (or literally "field ball"), is a national phenomenon in Japan. Masaoka Shiki, one of Japan's four great haiku masters, wrote several poems praising it. Osaka's most infamous urban legend centers around it. It's even more popular than the nation's native sumo. According to data published by Japan's Central Research Services in 2018, 48% of respondents cited baseball as their favorite sport. Sumo wrestling and soccer were well behind, tied for second place at around 25% each.
How baseball came to Japan
Baseball was introduced to Japan in 1872 by an American English teacher named Horace Wilson who taught at Tokyo's Kaisei Academy. This was at the start of the Meiji era (1868-1912), a period during which adopting customs and practices from the West was highly in vogue. The sport didn't catch on nationally until shortly after World War II ended. During the U.S. occupation of Japan, American GIs heavily promoted the sport. Baseball legends like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio formed an All-Star league and competed against local players. Women wearing kimonos lead cheers from atop a dugout at a baseball game in Japan in 1965. Bettmann Another thing that boosted baseball's popularity was the support of Japanese corporations, which began sponsoring professional teams. To this day, many teams bear the name of a corporation rather than a city or region.
Japanese baseball today
America has competition when it comes to claiming baseball as its national pastime. The Nippon Professional Baseball League (NPB), the country's equivalent of Major League Baseball (MLB), boasts approximately 27 million fans — about 20% of the entire population. Many have pointed out that key characteristics of the game appeal to the Japanese work ethic. Baseball relies heavily on teamwork, perseverance and discipline, which are qualities the Japanese tend to highly value. A young Japanese player holds a ball with writing that congratulates him for his first hit. Shoji Fujita Loyalty is another coveted characteristic. Japanese baseball players tend to stay on one team throughout their careers, though occasionally someone makes it to the U.S. Major Leagues. Those include Japanese star Ichiro Suzuki, who holds an impressive MLB record of 262 hits in one season, and a rookie named Shohei Ohtani who is currently making waves in the United States. The most popular major league teams in Japan are the Hanshin Tigers (Osaka), Hiroshima Carps and Yomiuri Giants (Tokyo). Travelers to those cities can add a game to their itinerary during baseball season, which typically runs from March to October. Baseball fans use megaphones to cheer during a high school tournament in Fukui, Japan. Buddhika Weerasinghe Not only are NPB games extremely popular in Japan, high school baseball is also universally beloved. Each year, more than 50,000 people watch the National High School Baseball Championship live at Koshien Stadium, and millions more view it on national TV, making it the most-watched sporting event in the country.
Differences between US and Japanese baseball
Japanese baseball games can end in a tie, where American rules dictate that teams play extra innings until one team wins. In 2016, the MLB saw a rare tie game where a game was called due to rain; before that, the last recorded tie was in 2005. Japanese fans cheer on the championship game of the 2017 Little League World Series. Alex Trautwig The Japanese use a slightly smaller ball than their American counterparts. Japanese swings are noted to be more compact, with the goal being to advance players rather than hit the long ball. Jeering is frowned upon in Japan, while it's widely tolerated — even expected — at American games. And fighting for foul balls is unheard of in Japan; the ball is simply returned to the nearest usher. Curry, ramen and takoyaki (grilled octopus) are sold in Japanese stadiums as are "American dogs," or corn dogs.
What it's like to attend a game
Tickets typically cost between 3,000 yen to 10,000 yen ($27 to $90) and can be purchased at the stadium on game days (though weekend and holiday games can sell out). Advanced online purchasing is also available, though most — but not all — sites are in Japanese. Japanese baseball games are so exciting and interactive that even those who don't follow the sport have a good time. With so much happening off the field, baseball in Japan is much more than a mere spectator sport. Spectators in Osaka cheer high school baseball players from an area devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The team were the heroes of the national tournament, despite losing 0-7. JIJI PRESS/AFP Fans at a baseball game at Jingu Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. Kiyoshi Ota The steady flow of booze is another factor in the merriment. During baseball games, women walk through the stands with heavy kegs strapped to their backs, deftly serving cold draft beers and other spirits to spectators. People are more than welcome to bring their own alcohol — and food — as long as they pour their drinks into plastic cups provided by the stadium. The way this American sport found an immovable place in the hearts of the Japanese people is perhaps best summed up in a haiku, by Masaoka Shiki: spring breeze this grassy field makes me want to play catch Read the full article

Hey everybody! from the 19th until the 21st I did something a bit more adventurous and visited a more rural city at lake Biwa: Hikone! Hikone is an old castle town where the clan of Ii reigned after being gifted with the area by Tokugawa Ieyasu after their support and win at the battle of Sekigahara 1600! Today it´s castle and castle road are the towns main touristic attractions. This time I stayed at a japanese style hotel, a ryokan, where even a kyusu and some tea waited for me to brew! That´s the service the chadude likes. Other than that it was the first time that I´ve got a room for myself, so I could finally relax a little more between and after my visits and strolls. On my evening stroll I even managed to find a teashop here! The owner was really friendly and explained to my how tea originally got to Japan, after I told him about my planned study of the topic. He let me try some of his teas and we ended up chatting for about 1 1/2 hours :D. After I bought 50gr of his Gyokuro Karigane green tea and he invited me to his families main-shop on the castle road I headed back to the ryokan, where I let the evening be. The next day ,after sleeping in, I headed straight to the castle. Even thought it was cloudy the hike up was nice and the sun came out as if it was a reward. The main building was really impressive both on the in- and outside.  It is one of the few castles which wasn´t destroyed after the Meiji restoration and you could see how it must have been walking around in such an bollwerk back in the day (pretty steep stairscases and doors and roofs made for small people like me hehe). The garden I visited afterwards was pretty too, but nothing extraordinary to be honest. Big pond, lot of artisticly treated pines and islands and some flowers, that remained from summer. Afterwards I wandered through the castle road on the quest for something eatable. I found a good noodleshop and ate some great Kamo Udon/ Thick noodles with duck meat and a thick broth. Yumm. Even better was my teatime at the shop I was being invited to the day before! I ordered a matcha-ice-parfait and a japanese black tea, both extraordinary good and soothing after a long noon of walking and hiking. I again chatted with the owner a bit and even got some goodies for free :). My next target was the street where craftsmen worked on butsudan or buddhist home altars. Well...I couldn’t find a single shop and that was where the harsh reality of Japans social problems caught on to me in person. It was the right street, but there were almost no shops (in general) opened and almost all people I met where ca. 50+. It really is shocking if you’re experiencing it first hand... Everything was just so deserted and sad :(. Here I sadly had to realize that neither the big cities, nor the smaller ones will be a nice place to live for me personally. They both just put me in a weirdly bad mood but maybe it’s just the weather or the homesickness striking. Who knows, I’ll gladly let the future change that mindset if it will. After another quiet evening I made my way to Fukui with a faster train, the “Shirasagi”-Line. Because of the weather I quiet enjoyed the landscapes passing by. Let’s see what this city has to offer me :). Gunnar

Trial Of The Tower: Vote
During all the discussion, the evidence being presented, theories being thought of, accusations being made more or less nicely, even the event of shoes being thrown, the Fool has been motionless, sitting in their throne, hands on their armrests, watching. They look like a statue, or like a doll someone just left on the chair, and had any of you paid attention to them you may have found yourself wondering if they had fallen asleep.
Now though, in the moment of silence following no more questions being left open for discussion, the pressing tension of reaching the point of no return, of people making up their minds, more or less feeling the pressure of certainty (or uncertainty), their voice echoes in the room. They didn’t raise it above a whisper much, and their tone betrays no feeling. Their posture doesn’t change either. The voice, honestly, feels like it could’ve, should’ve come from something more alive looking than your motionless host.
“It that all?”
The question hung in the air, followed by a sigh, and finally the Fool moves, lightly, with no hint of being slowed down or tense from not moving for so long.
They stand, fingertips lightly on the surface of the desk.
“Let’s get to voting then, shall we?”
They move a hand, and you’re assuming they’re pushing a button, because with the whirring sound of mechanics being put into motion a space on your desk- empty until now- opens up to reveal a compartment underneath, containing another tablet like the one you found in your bag upon arrival. This one is already switched on, and the cold slight glow of the screen reveals a single function, with nothing else on it. The entire screen is filled up with fancy calligraphy reading “Who’s The Killer? You Decide”. It seems it’s time for the vote the Fool mentioned earlier.
There’s an arrow at the lower right of the screen, and you press it, whether in dread or simple curiosity. The screen switches to a roman numeral: I. Underneath that, in the same calligraphy: “Akihiko Fujiwara”. This page looks different from the one before it, in a grey hue instead of brown, but what’s most notable is the large red X covering it. It’s not hard to guess what it stands for. Quickly, you swipe through to the next card, and the color turns back to warmer brown hues. It’s as you thought:
II. Caroline Chambers
III. Natsume Nannini
IV.  Shinobu Fukui
V. Kohana Wakahisa
VII. Saiyuri Horiuchi
VIII. Rosa Join
IX. Yukiko Yoshida
XI. Satsuki Tsutsumi
XII. Monoko Mioda
XIII. Tsubasa Kawasawa
XIV. Calandra Jeggare
XV. Omen
XVII. Katherine Ueda
XVIII. Aiko Namanari
XIX. Magnus
Page by page, it’s the numerals and names that you can see on the nametags of your podiums, with a small picture of the corresponding student (the ones around you, checking their own tablets just like you) below it. Each of them looks like it was taken straight out of a news article. Each of them have something drawn on them. Crowns. Horns. Wings. All manner of different things. And underneath that, each page has a large button, glowing softly. It reads “Punish”. Not “vote”, not even “this person”. “Punish”. There’s no doubt here that whoever you pick, they’ll not get off free. The tension is palpable now.
“Oh...”
The Fool’s static voice doesn’t cut through the tense silence, it drips into it like honey.
“And a failure to vote will count as a vote towards yourself. We wouldn’t want someone here who doesn’t participate in turning the wheels of justice.”
Their chin resting on their hands, they watch you silently.
You scroll through the list, looking at each of the faces. People around you, people you know, spent time with.
You have no choice but to make a choice.
So you do.
Votes can be sent in via ask. Each of you can only vote once. You’ll have all day to do so, votes will be counted tomorrow, and the conclusion posted. After, we will have a decompression period of a few days before starting the next chapter. You can take a break, or if you want to you can talk to the killer or even the victim one last time- though remember to specify that this took place in the past if it’s the latter, and remember to keep those threads short, we really don’t want to bring them into the second chapter, which will begin on monday!
Good work on this one, everyone! Hope you all had a good time!

Exy: Historia del deporte
Disclaimer: La trilogía All for the game y todo el contenido relacionado a la misma pertenece a Nora Sakavic.
