I know most people talk about agoraphobia in terms of having trouble with public places, but I really do generally hate big open airy spaces. I want low ceilings and minimal windows. I want to be in a little cave. I feel like a stressed out exposed animal in my apartment :/

first day of having an arranged marriage with him
Tumblr media
You entered his washitsu after waiting for a good long time in the hallway, knowing you had no other choice. At the end of the day, he was now your so-called husband.
The sound of the door sliding echoed through the room and informed him of your presence, but he didn't take his head off the newspaper he was reading. Sitting comfortably on the black leather futon on the floor and laying his back against the wall, it was a bunch of stuff scattered on the ground beneath his legs, thighs to be exact. Some crumpled horse racing bet tags, an old saddle brown bent pipe, an half empty alcohol jug thrown at his feet and a random underwear. wait, was it his?
Between his legs, that's the first place you noticed after entering the room. His gray kimono being dangerously loose on his front, only merely covering his abdominal. It looked like it'd fall open and reveal everything underneath at the slightest inconvenience. His frame being completely node underneath was visible and you couldn't help but look at the trail of messy hair starting at his bellybutton and continuing it's way down to his crotch you supposed, but only to get covered by the fabric in the middle of the way.
But looking back to his thighs you could see the other side of the hair continuing its way to his thighs and getting less and less as it goes down. The muscles on them could be seen even from the distance you were standing, you could already tell how hard and strong they could be. After finishing analyzing his upper body you realized how tone his chest was. some stretch marks were visible too, from the muscle extension perhaps. His stomach had little wavy hair all over, like they just grew back after being shaved. You moved your eyes to his neck and went to eye his collar bone, only for him to look at you.
"done staring?"
He spoke and looked at you through his long eyelashes while his head was still tilted to the floor, his hands playing with the cards on the ground. You just looked at him dead in the eyes acting like you weren't eyeing him for a good long time. He shrugged his shoulders and continued on playing with the cards while taking a long puff from the pipe and exhaling it through his nose.

A3! Translation - Rurikawa Yuki SSR 【Memories of a Distant Winter】 「Moving Day Photos」 (1/3)
Tumblr media
Yuki: That should be all.
Director: Oh, are you going somewhere Yuki?
Yuki: My luggage is getting full so I thought I'd leave some at my parents' house.
Director: I see. They are only double rooms, so I guess you can't store much stuff in there...
Director: So then, will you be staying at your parents' house tonight?
Yuki: No, I'm just going to drop off my luggage today. After that, I have some plans too.
Tumblr media
Director: Ah, if that's so then I'll start preparing dinner.
Yuki: Thanks, I'll look forward to it.
Director: Even so, you seem to have a lot of luggage. Will you be okay? If it's okay with you, I can walk with you to the station.
Yuki: It's not as heavy as it looks, so it'll be fine. Besides, if I had wanted someone to carry them, I'd have asked Tasuku and Misumi from the start.
Director: That's true.... When necessary you ask those guys first.
Yuki: Yup. Well then, I'll be going.
Director: Alright, stay safe!
-----------------------------------------------
Yuki's Mom: Even though you said you have something to do after this, can't you stay and relax for a bit?
Yuki: For a bit, I guess.
Yuki: Oh, I brought this luggage from the dorm. Could I put it away in the washitsu*?
Tumblr media
Yuki: I checked the closet in my room, and it doesn't look like there's any space left.
Yuki's Mom: If you're going to put it in the washitsu, then I think it should fit as long as you tidy it up.
Yuki: 'Kay, I'll go and clean it up then.
Yuki's Mom: Well then, I'll go and prepare some snacks for you
Yuki: Yeah, thanks.
------------------------------------
Yuki: (If I'm tidying up, then I'd need to take everything out of here first)
Yuki: Here we go...
Yuki: (...Ah, it looks like something just fell....)
Tumblr media
Yuki: (...Oh, it's a photo)
Yuki: ....Huh? Is this what I used to look like?
Yuki: (And the boy next to me with his face down... could it maybe be... Taichi? I wonder when this was taken)
Yuki: .....
Yuki: (....Ah, I remember it now. This photo was taken on the day I moved)
Yuki: (Back then.... I used to play with Chibi...Taichi a lot. But then I had to move....)
--------------------
Yuki: I'm going to play with Chibi.
Yuki's Mom: Hah, his name isn't Chibi. It's Taichi-kun.
Yuki's Mom: There's a lot of snow today, so be careful not to fall when you walk.
Yuki: We'll be close to the park, so don't worry!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yuki's Mom: Ah, that's right. I told you this yesterday too, but make sure you tell Taichi that we're moving.
Yuki: Yup, I got it! I'm off nooow!

BNHA Observations, speculations and assorted info: Todoroki Mansion (Part 4: Dining Room)
So, in order to write my fic, I spend much time observing canon scenes, comparing the manga and the anime version, take note of details, translations and info in them as well as finding out how are some things called.
Since what I noticed/speculated/found out can be of use for other fic authors I thought to share as well.
Resources:
Chap. 192 “The Todoroki Family” (轟家 Todoroki-ke) Chap. 249 “The Hellish Todoroki Family” (地獄の轟くん家 Jigoku no Todoroki-kun-chi) Chap. 250 “Ending” (エンディング)
Ep. 90 “Vestiges” (面 Omokage) Ep. 105 “The Hellish Todoroki Family” (地獄の轟くん家 Jigoku no Todoroki-kun-chi) Ep. 106 “The Unforgiven” (許されざる者 Yurusarezaru-mono)
OBSERVATIONS, SPECULATIONS AND ASSORTED INFO:
The dining in the Todoroki Mansion is a washitsu (和室), which means "harmony room" but which is the name used to mean "Japanese-style room".
Tumblr media
It's a room characterized by a tatami flooring (Tatami (畳) is a type of mat used as a flooring material in traditional Japanese-style rooms)...
Tumblr media
and sliding doors, be they Shōji (consisting of translucent or transparent sheets on a lattice frame) or Fusuma (vertical rectangular panels often painted)...
Tumblr media
....and, if the particular room is also meant to serve as a reception room for guests, it may have a tokonoma (床の間), an alcove for decorative items.
Tumblr media
HOW ONE REACHES IT?
In the manga from the Genkan, taking the corridor on the left, though we aren't shown more about how to reach it...
Tumblr media
In the anime it's possible to speculate it's reached always taking the corridor on the left but then we're shown you've to walk through the engawa...
Tumblr media
We know that in the anime the Shōji door with a lower door panel of the room doesn't open on the open part of the Engawa because, outside of the door, we always see a closed corridor.
Tumblr media
Natsuo takes the way on the right and then curves again on the right and then we'll see he has reached the engawa so we can assume that's the way one has to take to reach it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a little harder to say if the same applies to the manga as what's behind the characters entering in the room is left white... but since the wall isn't drawn it's possible the room opens on the outside...
Tumblr media
...but let's look at how the dining room is in details.
THE DOOR AND THE WINDOWS
As said before it's a large Shōji door with a lower door panel and some small Shōji windows above it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to the two small windows on top of the door, we've a marumado (円窓), a circular window with a flat bottom edge, on the left.
Tumblr media
Outside the Marumado there's another corridor, which is probably not the engawa as we don't see it having round windows. By the way, that corridor lead to the Butsudan room, though it's evidently in opposite places in the anime and in the manga as Enji is walking in opposite directions to reach it.
On the wall opposite to the door, on the left, there's a Shōji window the Shoin (書院) with, below it, a power point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Shoin (書院) is considered a decorative window-style structure which is usually located to the left of the Tokonoma in formal ones (since the Todoroki one is collocated to the right I guess their own isn't formal). A Shoin with an overhang toward the porch area is called “Tsuke-shoin” (付書院), and those without an overhang are called “Hira-shoin” (平書院).
SIZE OF THE ROOM
In the anime is clearly of 12 tatami mats.
In the manga is harder to say but maybe it's 10 tatami mats?
WALL IN FRONT OF THE DOOR
As shown in the images above and as said before, on the wall in front of the door there's a Shōji window, then an alcove, which I'm not sure could costitute a Tokonoma as what's displayed in it is a television.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The anime also adds, hung on the wall on the side opposite to the window, a picture.
Tumblr media
WALL ON THE RIGHT
As said before and as shown in the images before, on the wall on the left there's only the marumado window.
WALL ON THE LEFT
The wall on the left is the one of the Tokonoma. A formal Tokonoma structure is called Hondoko (本床) and consists of the following three parts: the Shoin (書院), a decorative window, the Tokonoma (床の間), an alcove and the Tokowaki (床脇), a space with shelves.
Tumblr media
In the manga we've already seen that the tokonoma structure isn't a formal one as the Shoin window is placed in the opposite side. Let's focus now on the Tokonoma, which contains a kakemono (掛物 "hanging thing"), more commonly referred to as a kakejiku (掛軸 "hung scroll"), and a vase on the right. We can also catch a glimpse of a flower arrangement which should be in front of the scroll.
Tumblr media
As for the Tokowaki, instead than an upper and lower cupboard with, in the middle some shelves, we've what seems to be a closet with a lower cupboard.
The anime instead went for a traditional Tokowaki.
Tumblr media
It has in the middle a Chigaidana (違い棚) which is decorative shelves consisting of two different levels and two cupboard-like shelves with sliding doors placed above and below the Chigaidana, which are called Tenbukuro (天袋 "top shelf") and Jibukuro (地袋 "bottom shelf").
CEILING
The ceiling is a Japanese Saobuchi tenjō (竿縁天井 "rod edge ceiling") ceiling, a flat wood ceiling supported by narrow wood beams.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ON WHAT DO THEY SIT?
In the anime they're always sitting on Zaisu (座椅子) chairs, Japanese chairs with a back and no legs.
Tumblr media
In the manga, when Enji comes home after beating a Nomu and when he dreams his family eating together they're all sitting on Zabuton (座団) Cushions.
Tumblr media
Only Fuyumi seems to be sitting in a seiza (正座) position (on her heels with her legs tucked underneath her). As she's a female her other option would be to sit with her legs tucked on one side. Males can also sit in a seiza position but the Todoroki males all seem to sit in agura (胡坐) position (cross-legged). Stretching the legs directly out in front of themselves is something one must not do so nobody does it.
The table should be a Zataku (座卓) table, a low, rectangular table suitable for sitting on Zabuton or Zaisu.
Tumblr media
SEATING ARRANGEMENT
Seating arrangements is very important in Japanese culture: The guest-of-honor is seated upon the kamiza (上座 "Chief seat" or "seat of honor") which is typically situated farthest from the entrance. The middle of the table is the most honored position, and the second most important person is seated next, at his right, the third most important person at his left. When there is a tokonoma in the room, the guest-of-honor is seated in front of it. The host or lowest-ranking guest is seated closest to the shimoza (下座 "lower seat").
So let's give a look at how the Todoroki sit...
To make things simpler I made a scheme showing the floorplan of the dining room and the seating arrangement.
Tumblr media
Enji, the family head, is always at the head of the table. I'll assume the first time they put him near the door because otherwise he wouldn't have been able to watch the tv.
The second time in fact, when the tv is not turned on, he's at the chair farther form the door.
The first time Shouto is placed at his right, which is the second most important place. It might be because Shouto is being a guest in a way, as he's temporally living at the dormitory, or it might be because this, in a way, remarks Shouto's status as Enji's heir, despite Shouto being the youngest.
The second time at Enji's right there's Bakugo, which makes sense as he's a guest. Technically the third most important place would be the one at Enji's right, but they've probably left Bakugo, Midoriya and Shouto all seated at the same side of the table so that they would be more comfortable. From what I could understand in theory in such scenario, Enji should have seated opposed to them, between Fuyumi and Natsuo (the middle place is the most important spot in this kind of arrangement), but this is no business dinner so I guess they didn't bother.
So the most important spot after the one Bakugo is having goes to Fuyumi's Enji's eldest child.
Interesting enough, when Enji came home from fighting the Nomu, that spot was given to Natsuo.
What's interesting to notice though is that the Todoroki's dining room comes with a problem.
Guests should be placed facing the Tokonoma but this here doesn't happen. In order to place Bakugo at Enji's right, they give their back to the Tokonoma.
That is unless Enji gives up his place as the head of the table and sits on the middle of the table between Fuyumi and Natsuo.
Now, Enji's dream in the manga.
The manga doesn't give us a way to figure out how the characters are placed in the room but the anime confirms the scene is seen from Enji's point of view as he enters in the room, so Rei and Fuyumi are next to the tv. In this arrangement, there's no spot for him and no head of the table.
In theory the most important person should be Rei, as she's the oldest (and she's placed far from the door)... which makes Shouto the second most important person again with Fuyumi coming third.
The anime added a dream sequence which has Rei seated at the head of the table but this time Natsuo would get the second most important place, then Fuyumi, then Shouto.
On a sidenote there's to say families might chose not to be so strict about seating arrangement and just go with what makes them comfortable so...
Still, to sum it up, manga and anime this time are pretty similar in how to represent the room, the biggest difference being merely how the anime, differently from the manga, decided to go for a traditional Tokowaki.

Sneak peaks
Got tagged by @umber-cinders [AAAAAAA TYSMMMMMMMMMMM] to do this; I won't be posting six sentences but small snippets from current WIPs; please i literally haven't written enough for six sentences yet-
Giyu Tomioka | Hashira's react to their S/Os falling asleep
Luckily for you, you seemed to have made yet another miscalculation, as when you exited the bathroom and were about to enter the washitsu, you bumped into your significant other. In a literal sense. You managed to walk right into his chest, nearly toppling the both of you down. He managed to balance both of you though, wrapping his arms around your frame. You couldn’t process what he said. All you could focus on was how good it felt to be held by him, snuggled into the warmth of his body.
Private work | AU | TW: TORTURE
“Now now, sweetie. Is this how we really wanna go?” He cooed, running the cold blade up and down the spot. Not a word. Without warning, he shoved the blade into the spot, slowly, agonizingly scraping the dark patch. The woman gritted her teeth, trying to bear the agonizing pain.
But everyone has a breaking point, don't they?
She finally let out a gut-wrenching scream, betraying her already hurting vocal chord. Tears unfiltered stream through, finally seeming to have reached her breaking point. He removed the blade and let go of the fist full of hair, making her fall on the ground with a thud and hit her head. She was groaning in agony, her cheeks stained with tears. She couldn't take it anymore.
Why her? Why always her? One time she finally would've been able to retire for a good month or two and have some time with her lover, but of course, this is how it’d end up. Being fucking kidnapped along with her student. Goodness knows what that monster is putting him through. She can't break, for him….
But would it hurt, though? Hurt to submit, for once? Her entire life she had to be the one holding on to hope. The one to stay strong and sane. Would it hurt to give up once?
Omegaverse Drabble | Might not be released
This was your first time nesting alone, due to the fact that your deluded father refused to let you do omegan activities which, in turn, left you as an twice as deluded and awkward Omega. You would overdose on suppressants and blockers, refusing to give into your secondary gender and firmly believing that you, in fact, are an Alpha and her entire secondary gender was all a mistake.
That, however, was until He came into your life.

Song of the friendship. // @rake-rake
Soft steps whispered through the forgotten washitsu as Geto entered, a warm smile gently twisting his lips. His form shifted gracefully, and before a single ray of sunlight could caress his facade, the older man seated himself before the familiar figure, moving a chess piece with a low, contemplative hum.
Tumblr media
"If you continue to visit so often, one of your students might notice. Aren't you afraid of tarnishing your image? Of being seen in this light? Ah, ah, ah --- forgive my manners—would you care for a cup of Nama-Cha?"

SIMS 4 - JAPANESE JOURNEYS - TATAMI MATS 2X1 AND 2X2 - BASE GAME
Early Access until May 30, 2024
Tatami mats are a staple floor covering in many Japanese homes. Read on for more information, or skip to the bottom to download.
Note: All images are from live in game
-------------------------------------------
From https://www.japanobjects.com/features/tatami
"The word tatami comes from the verb tatamu(畳む, “to fold”, “to pile”). Tatami mats first appeared in the oldest Japanese book, Kojiki (Record of Ancient Matters), as far back as 712. The name derives from the fact that tatamimats were originally thinner and could be folded or piled up.
Through most of Japanese history, the floor itself would be made of wood, and tatami mats would serve a particular purpose such as seating, in the houses of the well-to-do. Over the centuries their use widened. By the Edo period shoin-zukuri rooms, that we now call Japanese-style rooms, had become quite common, where nobles and samurai slept on tatamior woven mats named goza (茣蓙), while common people used straw mats or even loose straw for bedding.
Shoin-zukuri rooms were characterized by coffered ceilings, shoji screens, square pillars, and tatami floors. Tatamimats were installed on the entire floor of a room. These areas were called zashiki (座敷, “spread out for sitting”) and the arrangement of tatamimats in the room was determined by strict rules.
By the end of the 17th century, tatamifloors hadreached almost every home, which continues until today. Most Japanese houses have a few tatami matted rooms, including many modern city apartments. Even if Western-style bedding is popular, Japanese people often still sleep on a tatamimat with a futon, a thin mattress, on top. The rooms having tatami floorings and other traditional architectural characteristics are referred to as washitsu, "Japanese-style rooms". We highly recommend you experience Japanese hospitality and sleep on tatamimats when staying at a ryokan!
Tatami are typically differentiated by size and shape, quality of materials and applicability. Here are some of the most notable styles:
Size and shape: Most people think of tatami as rectangular, but square-shaped mats are also fairly common. Square tatami mats usually measure three feet by three (90cm by 90cm) and can accommodate the modular, symmetrical design of traditional Japanese rooms. Rectangular tatami tend to be favored, however, because of their streamlined, elongated appearance which creates a larger sense of space and works well in unconventionally shaped rooms. They also allow for interlocking designs and patterns that are deemed auspicious in traditional Japanese culture.
Materials: Igusa rush grass and rice straw are among the most common materials used for tatami construction. The former is the gold-standard, known for its elasticity, longevity and ability to maintain its natural color. Igusa rush tatami mats also have a natural wetland fragrance and vaunted antibacterial properties. This is not to say that rice straw tatami always pale in comparison. These mats have a slightly rougher texture and golden hue, but are often firm, durable and have good insulation."

( 2024. 3. 8 ) — What a whirlwind February was! I’m in shock it passed so quickly and yet I suppose I shouldn’t be so surprised. January always seems to inch on by and then February comes and leaves in a flash!
So many life changes in February; I started a new side job as a tour guide here in Japan, and I enjoy it a lot! It’s fun to unleash my history nerd and show people beautiful places in Kyoto, Osaka, etc.
I also have a house now. No more apartment living! I can run my kimono business from the house and even have a dedicated Washitsu room for it.
The beginning of February I went to a party with my kimono school, and it was so lovely. I even won something at the raffle (yay!). It was incredible to see my original teachers again; I no longer can come on Saturdays, so to be reunited was truly a joy!
February concluded with a singing recital, and as I was singing both “Think of Me” and “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again” from Phantom, I dressed as Christine Daaé, even complete with dress and wig! Truly, I lived out my childhood dreams that day, and I received lovely compliments!
I’m looking forward to winter ending and the coming of cherry blossoms in a couple of weeks. 🌸✨

Before and After.
Patina " Tokonoma " by Alexander Nurulaeff in exclusive for our client from U.S.A. : Mr. F.C. The TOKONOMA, literally 'place of beauty', is a part of the washitsu (the traditional room of a Japanese home and place of representation, also used for the tea ceremony). A niche usually measuring about one tatami, it is not a simple decorative element but rather a small shrine, slightly raised from the rest of the floor, where an ikebana composition or other decorations are arranged and the kakemono, a scroll a painting or calligraphy on rice paper, cotton, silk or other precious material is hung. #床の間 #ryokan #tokonoma#alexandernurulaeffdesign #dandyshoecare#thisweekoninstagram #photography#photographer #shoes #patina #artist#bespoke #likesforlike
