Analyzing Klavier's Behavior Because I Am Nothing If Not Predictable*

*But also I made this post at 2am and am determined to see it through

Alright so a few days ago I posted this reblog of a response to a post I made mentioning that Klavier's behavior that is so commonly poked at as "Klavier, there was a murder" could very well be a coping mechanism. As you'll know if you've read the essay I wrote on the parallels between Ryulock and Homumiko, I really like to analyze fictional characters. So I have decided to analyze Klavier Gavin's behavior throughout his appearances because there's implications in there that I think aren't talked about enough.

(Also important to note because I feel like it'll come up; this is all my interpretation of Klavier's behavior based on a combination of personal experience and just how I read his behavior. I am not going to claim my analysis to be objectively correct.)

Part 1: A Brief-ish Summary of Klavier's Canon Appearances

Klavier's only canon appearances are in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney and Turnabout Academy in Dual Destinies (which is a shame but that's not my point). In the latter, he's not acting as Prosecutor Gavin, he's acting as Rock God Klavier. I still think, for the sake of context, it's important to go over these appearances and how he acts during each one.

Turnabout Corner

Our first introduction to Klavier is in Turnabout Corner, the second episode of Apollo Justice. He's introduced as a cool, suave prosecutor that likes to throw his weight around a little (as indicated by him overriding the police and allowing Trucy and Apollo to investigate People Park), and it's easy to (correctly) assume pretty early on that he doesn't really care about giving information to the defense like every other prosecutor in the series (something that will come up later). In Turnabout Corner, we also learn about Klavier's status as a rockstar, and how he usually acts during court proceedings. Apollo's first impression, which carries over into Turnabout Serenade and is still part of how he sees Klavier into Dual Destinies, is that Klavier tends to not take things very seriously.

Turnabout Serenade

Turnabout Serenade is... interesting. We see a side of Klavier that he seems to want to keep under wraps at first — he's a perfectionist when it comes to his music, and his focus is on Daryan's missed cue, not the fact that a murder happened at his concert; notably, he's focused on Daryan's fuck-up, when he's not the only one who messed up during the concert. He comes off as irritable during investigation segments, seeming to put on a mask of his usual confident and carefree attitude when Apollo and Trucy show up.

This is also the first time Klavier starts to get honestly pretty mean when even the implication that something he didn't want to be true is true is suggested. The second Apollo implies LeTouse was murdered during the second set (which is when he first presents the igniter) Klavier gets mean ("Herr Forehead, don't destroy what little respect I have for you!" which implies he never had much respect for him in the first place, which I'd argue is not the case but I'll get into that later). We get into Daryan's testimony once it's made clear that Daryan's a suspect, and at that point he's less mean to Apollo and tearing into Daryan instead. Turnabout Serenade alone shows that Klavier's views of people can and will change on a dime.

Turnabout Succession (2019 section)

I'm gonna get it out of the way now, Klavier is a brat during the 2019 section of Turnabout Succession. This is relevant; he seems to have grown out of this by Turnabout Corner, but he's still prone to being a dick. Klavier's also much more egotistical during the 2019 section of Turnabout Succession; most notably, he brags about the success of The Gavinners multiple times during the trial (which Phoenix describes as an "utter lack of humility"). As a 24/25-year-old, he's not normally an egocentric asshole; this trait only really shows itself during times where he'd be stressed. Again, we'll get to that.

Turnabout Succession (responses to Kristoph's involvement)

The first reaction to Kristoph's involvement is when Vera mentions the commemorative stamp with Troupe Gramarye on it, and he gets intense about asking Vera about what the first forgery she made was. He actually scares Vera and concerns the judge:

And this is where he first breaks down. Trucy gets concerned, Apollo has to tell him to calm the fuck down because he's badgering the witness (at which point Klavier calls Phoenix Apollo's "soiled, sullied mentor"), and then Vera collapses from atroquinine poisoning and the trial ends. I cannot imagine what the next span of time before the trial continued was like for Klavier.

Once Kristoph actually takes the stand, Klavier's quite quiet for a while, aside from defending Kristoph when you press certain statements (and even then, Kristoph will not hesitate to talk over Klavier). Apollo even mentions that Klavier's acting different, and decides it's because Kristoph's in the courtroom. Klavier gets so upset that he can't even function properly, which Kristoph blames on Apollo ("My, my. You've upset my poor brother to the point of uselessness."). Klavier does eventually snap out of it and accuses Kristoph of bluffing, and the rest of the trial he works with Apollo to convince the jurists that Kristoph is behind Drew and Vera's poisoning, not Vera (although he does tell Apollo he's leaving the case if he can't prove Kristoph is behind forging the evidence in the Zak Gramarye case).

Klavier's behavior in the 2026 sections of Turnabout Succession very much remind me of 17-year-old Klavier, and his breakdown sprite does not help this (which I've also done an analysis on. Parts of that analysis will be relevant later). Again, this will come up later.

Turnabout Academy

I personally think Klavier's behavior in Turnabout Academy is also similar to his behavior when he was 17, although in the complete opposite direction from Turnabout Succession. Looking at Klavier's behavior in Turnabout Succession's 2019 section vs his behavior during Turnabout Academy, I am immediately struck by similarities. Notably, Klavier exhibits some degree of inflated self-confidence (he calls his own voice "godlike" if you present the tape recorder to him, tells Apollo and Athena to find the Gavinners banner, leading Athena to wonder if he just wants his banner back, claims the burnt fragments of the Gavinners banner is a "challenge directed at [Klavier] and Gavinners fans everywhere"), which leads him to put down Apollo specifically (telling Apollo that the role of a fledgling lawyer is one he was "born to play," calling Apollo a wet blanket, "That feigned swagger does not suit you in the least," probably jokingly accusing Apollo of destroying the statues of Klavier and Phoenix).

It's all behavior that feels like it should come from 17-year-old Klavier, not 25-year-old Klavier, at least not under most circumstances.

Part 2: A Slightly More In-Depth Analysis of Klavier's Behavior

Klavier's behavior, notably, changes depending on the circumstances he's in. I think it's important to figure out what the baseline for adult Klavier's behavior is before we go any further however.

I, personally, think the baseline for Klavier's behavior is most clear in Turnabout Corner. He doesn't have any personal involvement in the case beyond Apollo getting Kristoph thrown in prison, and he's pretty chill the entire case. It feels like, at the very least, he's adhering to his rock god persona (and I don't think it's a stretch to assume that's at least partially what he's like when he's not masking anything). Turnabout Corner serving as the baseline for Klavier's behavior also makes sense from a writing standpoint. So, I'm going to use Turnabout Corner as a baseline for Klavier's behavior. Now that we have that out of the way, let's analyze Klavier's behavior.

Part 2.1: Turnabout Serenade

So, first of all, let's look at the transition from Turnabout Corner to Turnabout Serenade. Klavier's having fun, he's at a concert and performing with someone he looks up to and admires. Then, tragedy strikes. A murder happens during the third set. The pianist for the second set is arrested. Daryan missed a cue he shouldn't have missed. This is the first time Klavier is aggressive. It's the first time we see perfectionist Klavier. The second Apollo and Trucy show up, he starts acting like he did during Turnabout Corner. To be completely clear, I do think he was genuinely happy to see them. I don't think his behavioral change when Apollo and Trucy show up is entirely a front. At worst, he's pretending everything's fine by acting like he normally would. Two explanations I can think of for this:

Maybe he just doesn't want Trucy and Apollo to see him like that.

Maybe he doesn't actually care how Trucy and Apollo see him, and he pretends everything's fine by instinct.

Additionally, this is the first time we truly see the extent of how egocentric Klavier can get. He opts to completely ignore the fact that a murder happened at his concert and instead focuses on Daryan's missed cue. That's what we see, at least.

By the end of the case we find out that missed cue was crucial evidence. That missed cue had implications for the entire incident. It's also implied in Turnabout Corner that Klavier is always multiple steps ahead, and in Turnabout Academy he suggests that the missing Gavinners banner is relevant to the case, and it ends up being crucial to the case. Exactly like Daryan's missed cue.

I don't think Klavier was just being an egocentric asshole here. I think he knew that the missed cue was somehow relevant, especially if he noticed Lamiroir and Machi's mistakes during the second set. If he did notice the mistakes Lamiroir and Machi made, then noticed Daryan's missed cue, I don't doubt he'd think they were somehow related. The one thing saving him was that the entire case, both the defense's side and the prosecution's side, hinged on the murder taking place during the third set, so he gets fucking mean when it's implied the murder might've happened during the second set, because there goes any plausible denial. Once Apollo suggests the murder happened during the second set, Daryan's alibi goes out the window, and he becomes their prime suspect. Basically, Klavier's aggression in Turnabout Serenade, and potentially how set on figuring out Daryan's missed cue he was, was very likely him getting defensive.

Part 2.2: Turnabout Succession

Not gonna talk about the 2019 section of Turnabout Succession much here. Klavier's behavior in Turnabout Succession is very much like his behavior in Turnabout Corner. That is, until Kristoph is made a suspect in Drew Misham's murder.

Klavier's pretty much the same as he was in Turnabout Corner for most of the first trial of Turnabout Succession. He's enjoying himself (a fact Apollo and Trucy mention), he's having fun teasing Spark Brushel a bit.

And then Vera brings up the commemorative stamp with Troupe Gramarye on it. As I mentioned above, he gets so intense about finding out what Vera's first forgery was that he scares Vera, concerns the judge, concerns Trucy, and has Apollo telling him to calm the fuck down because he's badgering the witness. Even taking 17-year-old Klavier into account, that's incredibly out of character for him. 17-year-old Klav was a bit mean to witnesses, sure, but he never badgered them. This exact moment is where, upon replaying AJ:AA, I was like "holy shit, you can pinpoint exactly where and when Klavier realizes Kristoph's involved in this."

During the next trial day, he's out of character on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, by which I mean he's too quiet. Klavier's usually talkative and flamboyant. He likes to test Apollo and Apollo's theories. He likes getting under Apollo's skin. But the second Kristoph's on the witness stand we don't get any of that. He's just quiet and he lets Kristoph talk over him. Kristoph's presence is enough to make him uncharacteristically quiet (which makes me wonder what the fuck their history is, especially with Klavier's "Spinning out of whose control? Mine? ...Or yours?" line after Kristoph says he's spinning out of control and the fact that what triggers Kristoph saying that in the first place is Klavier saying "Let's clean out the family closet" and Kristoph claims Klavier's going to say something he'll regret, but that's a different post for a different time). Klavier eventually gets so desperate for proof that Kristoph killed Drew and tried to kill Vera that he literally begs Apollo to prove it. Once Klavier has seen evidence that would indicate that Kristoph is guilty of Drew's murder, he's mostly back to his normal self.

Part 2.3: Turnabout Academy

Turnabout Academy is interesting because Klavier's behavior still feels off but you aren't playing as Apollo; you're playing as Athena, who doesn't know what Klavier is usually like. Klavier's a lot nicer to Athena than he is to Apollo (he is still a bit mean to Athena at points, just to be clear). I personally think it's because Klavier knows Apollo but doesn't know Athena well, but that's just an assumption, I don't think there's really evidence to support it.

Anyway, Klavier's behavior during Turnabout Academy feels pretty similar to when he was 17 in my opinion. He is brutal with Apollo. Klavier:

Tells Apollo that the role of a fledgling defense attorney is one he "was born to play"

Calls Apollo a wet blanket

Calls Apollo a stick in the mud

Accuses Apollo of destroying the statues of Klavier and Phoenix TWICE (probably jokingly but that's still mean, Klavier. This is also, notably, reflective of Klavier accusing Apollo of setting his guitar on fire in Turnabout Serenade)

17-year-old Klavier, while he doesn't target anyone specifically, is a fucking brat. He's irritating and he likes harassing people (like how 17-year-old Klavier was ever allowed in a court of law is beyond me. Granted this is the same court system that let an 18-year-old with a whip prosecute cases but I digress). In some of 17-year-old Klav's dialogue, we also get a taste of just how egocentric he could get at 17. Some of 17-year-old Klavier's lines in the 2019 section of Turnabout Succession that had me like "wow, never has a more irritating 17-year-old existed":

"Herr Detective, this is my stage. Can the antics."

"And I haven't proven anything yet, beyond my good looks, and startling record sales."

"...Would you hold me accountable for a mistake made in my youth?" "That was just this morning!" "...I am still young."

"I would hope the defense refrains from its customarily broad, sweeping accusations."

"...Truly, there's no substitute for experience. Nothing blinds one to the truth so effectively."

I can 100% see some of those lines also coming from Turnabout Academy Klavier. That then begs the question; if Klavier had evolved past acting like this by the age of 24, why is he back to acting like that by the age of 25?

Simple; it's very likely the same reason his behavior was the way it was in Turnabout Serenade. Constance Courte had personal significance to Klavier and quite literally shaped how Klavier prosecutes cases. Klavier says this himself; "She may have taught the judge course, but she had a huge impact on me. She was fond of saying, 'The end is only justified through proper means.' She wouldn't tolerate dishonesty and always revered what was right beyond all else." From the beginning of the case, it's had more personal significance than any of the cases Klavier prosecuted (while other cases did have personal significance to him, it was only ever clear near the end of the trial).

The thing about Turnabout Academy is that, in terms of Klavier's role in the story, it is incredibly similar to Turnabout Serenade. Here's a list of similarities just to show what I mean:

Both cases involve Klavier having Apollo and the individual he's investigating with figure out something that doesn't seem to be significant to the case but is actually crucial evidence (Daryan's missed cue in Turnabout Serenade and the Gavinners banner in Turnabout Academy)

Both have personal significance to Klavier in some way (Daryan was the culprit of Turnabout Serenade and his mentor is the victim of Turnabout Academy)

You would not be blamed for saying "Klavier there was a MURDER" every time he shows up in both cases

Klavier's roles in Turnabout Serenade and Turnabout Academy are similar enough to me that it caught my attention almost immediately (in fact, I tagged the screenshot I posted of Klavier telling Apollo and Athena to look for the Gavinners banner as "turnabout serenade ass behavior"). That also means that his behavior is similar in both cases; the primary difference, in my opinion at least, is that Klavier's more intense and mean in Turnabout Academy (which was obvious to be quite quickly).

Part 2.4: Klavier's Shifting View of Kristoph

(This isn't important I just wanted to bring it up)

It's made pretty clear in Turnabout Succession's 2019 section that Klavier has a positive view of Kristoph. Klavier takes Kristoph at his word that Phoenix is going to present forged evidence and keeps him anonymous when he mentions that he gave him the tip that Phoenix would present forged evidence. He was excited to go against him in court (which just makes the fact that Kristoph forged evidence to beat him a lot more sad), something he even acknowledges when it's made clear that Kristoph forged the diary page that got Phoenix disbarred ("...Kristoph! We were supposed to face each other in that trial! A fair fight, brother to brother! I deserved that much! You let me borrow the victim's belongings... ...You showed me all your research on the case!").

We can literally watch this crumble during Turnabout Succession. He knows Kristoph is a good defense attorney; when Apollo first meets Klavier in court, Klavier says that he's prosecuting the case because he wanted to see the true strength of "the little boy who bested" Kristoph, which at the very least implies he respects Kristoph's skills as a defense attorney. That's completely crumbled by the end of Turnabout Succession, with Klavier literally telling Kristoph "You're not needed anymore." It's honestly really sad to watch too. It makes you wonder what was going through his head during that span of time during Vera's trial where Klavier's just not as talkative as he usually is and Kristoph's on the witness stand.

(To be clear, I think Klavier knew Kristoph was a piece of shit before Turnabout Succession. I don't think Kristoph's emotional abuse of Klavier started during Turnabout Succession, and I very much think Klavier knew that Kristoph was a piece of shit because of it. However, I don't really think he would've expected anything that came out during Turnabout Succession, which is why he reacts how he does. I also think it would be safe to assume that either Kristoph only started emotionally abusing Klavier after Zak's trial or Klavier realized that's what he was doing after Zak's trial, due to Klavier's attitude toward Kristoph holding the implication that if Kristoph was actively being abusive at that point in time, Klavier didn't realize it)

Part 3: What We Can Conclude About Klavier Based On This Information

I've mentioned it before (in fact it's in the Klavier breakdown animation analysis I linked earlier in the post), but Klavier's behavior comes off as him not having been able to properly grow up, whether because he became a celebrity when he was 17 or for some other reason. It's like he regresses back to 17 during traumatic situations, or possibly has some sort of relapse if we assume he got mental health treatment between the 2019 section of Turnabout Succession and the start of Turnabout Corner, and his behavior supports that, which is fucking heartbreaking. It's like he's putting on a mask of maturity because he was forced to. By who? Could be anyone. He could've felt obligated to do it by his status as an international celebrity. He could've been pressured into it by the Gavinners' record label (assuming they weren't indie). Kristoph could've pressured him into it because Klavier had eyes on his every action on a global scale. He could've experienced some kind of psychological trauma that caused it. There are so many potential explanations here and they're all fucking heartbreaking.

Part 4: Conclusion

So. 3.3k words later. This is longer than my Ryulock/Homumiko essay. Anyway, conclusion: I don't think Klavier's ever been flanderized. I think people are misreading his primary trauma response (that being, some form of regression or relapse). He's not even the only person this happens to in the series (*stares at Athena*), it's just not obvious with Klavier if you don't consider ALL his behavior together, including his behavior when he's 17 because that's really what explains his behavior in my opinion. Klavier's behavior isn't easily explainable in a nearly 3.5k word essay without knowing how he was at 17.

And yes, you could argue that this is all coincidence. You could argue that none of this was intentional, especially when you consider how Ace Attorney is written. Someone who goes into Dual Destinies without playing Apollo Justice first won't get the additional context required to recognize the full extent of Klavier's behavior.

I would beg to differ however. Some of Phoenix's bitchiness from Apollo Justice is still present in Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice, and I very much think that was intentional. Apollo's behavior in 5-4 and 5-5 are very much indicative of him having trust issues as a result of everything that happened with Kristoph and that's a hill I'll die on. Simon still acts the same as he did in prison, likely as a result of either trauma, habit, or both.

If you think Ace Attorney doesn't reference past games in characters' behavior, you're underestimating Ace Attorney's writing. I absolutely think Klavier's behavior in Turnabout Academy and his behavior in Turnabout Serenade are meant to be reflective of each other. I'd be genuinely surprised if that's not an intentional parallel and if it doesn't indicate something about Klavier's response to traumatic events. Even worse, I am quite sure that Kristoph has put him down over this. Hell, you could argue that his comment about Klavier being stressed to the point of uselessness is him putting Klavier down for how he copes with trauma. It explains why he was so quiet while Kristoph was on the witness stand, actually.

I also don't think Klavier's as egocentric and quite as much of a perfectionist as he lets on. I think it's part of what I referred to earlier as Klavier relapsing. I very much think he might've been like that at 17, but much like his other behavior at 17 it feels like he grew out of it, and he has a tendency to fall back into it during traumatic situations, whether it's as a defense mechanism or just how his brain responds to trauma.

Essentially this causes traumatic situations for Klavier to turn into him bottling everything up, which comes across to other people (including anyone who decides to play Apollo Justice and Dual Destinies) as irritability. This happens to me too; I'm prone to emotional overreaction but I've gotten to a point where I tend to bottle it up instead of doing literally anything else.

Capcom, please for the love of the Holy Mother give Klavier therapy.

What fandoms do you write in? At the moment, only for Good Omens! But in the past I've written for Friends, The Pretender and Alias.

How many words have you published in 2024? So far, 186,754 words. I'll soon have a new Christmas fic to post that will definitely increase the count to more than 200k.

What is your greatest achievement this year? Starting to write for this fandom. When I started reading canon post S2 fix-it fics at the end of 2023 I didn't know that I would fall in love with AUs. Today I'm sure that this is a fandom that can express the best AU - if only for the fact that canon is 'fantasy' and AU are 'realistic'. I've changed my style from AE to BE and I'm trying to strengthen my writing. It's not always easy, but I've found beta readers who are so helpful in the process. I can't thank them enough.

What are your favorite top three fics you wrote this year? I've only posted two long fics, which are obviously the favorite I wrote: The Tadfield Holiday (A human ‘The Holiday’ AU) Runaway Groom (A human ‘Runaway Bride’ AU)

But as I mentioned, I'll soon post my Xmas fic 🎄🎁

What was your biggest pit of despair moment? I don't think I ever got desperate, but sometimes it's not easy being a non-native speaker. And the thing I've struggled with the most? Smut scenes 😁 What have you learned? Go with the flow. When the flow hits, just go with it. I'm saying this after writing almost 40k words in less than three weeks.

Did you beta any fics? Actually, I am! I'm not a useful beta when it comes to language, but I'm the best cheeleader 😁😁😁

What three fics have you read this year that you love? Only three? Impossible. I've read hundreds of them. I always read fics and most of all I re-read my faves. So here's a few.

and salt the Earth behind you by @sunrisesinthesuburbs The love and respect I have for this author is immeasurable. Just RUN read EVERYTHING she writes. Of course her Borrowed Words is a masterpiece, but I have a special place in my heart for Profiler Aziraphale and CI Crowley.

Overboard by @joanofart5 I write film-inspired AUs, and Joan did the same with this little gem. It's based on the 1980's romcom 'Overboard' and it's funny, and lovely and makes you FEEL all the right feelings.

Find the Light by @klikandtuna Oh, what an extremely talented author 💛 You've got Headmaster!Aziraphale and Rockstar!Crowley all cuddled up in an awesomely fluff story. Wonderful ❤

The New Road (is an old friend) by @missunderstoodlyrics Pastor!Aziraphale meets SingleDad!Crowley and his daughter Mira. Pining ensured and angst that made me die a little (a sweet death, mind you). Still one of my personal faves by this incredibly talented author.

I'll tell you who's in charge by @captainblou is still my fave of them. But even in other fics, Blou has this wonderful way with words and smut scenes and writing badass Crowley who's actually the sweetest creature. And the way they write about trans characters is the best in the fandom.

When Hell Freezes Over by @hermiola She has a WIP (subscribe, it's hilarious) and she's recently finished her Pretty Woman AU "Take a Little Love From Me", but I discovered her with this two-chapters one shot featuring a charming Peter-Vincent-inspired!Crowley and journalist!Aziraphale. I'm so glad we are collaborating, because your writing truly inspires me 💙💙💙

But oh there are so many others fellow authors: @bellisima-writes ("The Last Angel" is one of the more complex well-thought plots I've ever read), @feraltuxedo (If "All lines are open" was a book, I would have consummated its pages by now), @fellshish (My gosh, how many times I've read "Trial & error"?), @lyricalkris ("The Devil Built a Chapel" killed me 💚💛).

What ideas are percolating for next year? One too many. That's why I'll probably stop writing for a bit. I mean, there might be another movie-inspired AU project in the work, but...We'll see 💜

I thought it was all over on that fateful March evening. As I laid on the ground and took my final breaths, all I could think about was how I wouldn’t be able to look after my little sheep. Jeff, Grant, and Gareth would be without their lead guitarist. Dustin, Mike, and Lucas would be without their Dungeon Master. How could I leave them like this?

But then I saw it. I saw you all, a herd of lost little sheep that became shepherds. You tended to your flocks by unspooling stories. Stories that began as a whisper in your ear but found immortality because of the life and love you breathed into them. Just as I pored over song lyrics and meticulously planned campaigns, you write your stories. You write my story. My existence was never futile because it brought you all to each other.

And I’ve come to realize this: there is life after death. That cheesy saying about not truly dying until the last time someone says your name? I never understood it until I saw my name written millions of times, across one thousand universes. 

Now, my uncle may have raised a drug dealing, Satan-worshiping freak, but he also raised a gentleman. I know how to say thank you. And since I have a lot of time on my hands in the afterlife, I figured I’d learn your favorite song. All you have to do is close your gorgeous eyes and imagine my voice, just as you do when you write me.

I have a question regarding Claudia’s ghost. Both in book and potentially in show. As far as I can remember, the only two books that has Claudia’s ghost in are the body thief and Merrick—so in the books, was Lestat only start seeing Claudia’s ghost after TQoTD? And stoped seeing her ghost after his suicide attempt in the desert?

I guess I’m trying to find ghost! Claudia’s motive and agency here. Is it to haunt her fail!dads and air her grievances. And has she found some sort of peace somewhere in the books?

And since Delainey is coming back, so we will get ghost! Claudia early, which, hurray and high five all around for the deliciousness of her running commentary of her Dad’s rockstar era!! (And her Dads’ situationship era)

But How would ghost! Claudia fit in with Akasha awaking and how would a vampire world war affect her? And at which point would she find peace and exist in someway in the show? Will she even leave and disappear in the show? Given the ghost find ways to stay in the prince Lestat trilogy.

Lestat starts seeing Claudia after the ordeal with Akasha, yes. I... have often wondered (given Memnoch later and the unpublished book, and certain remarks in Blackwood Farm) if Lestat's powers had been "enough" to push beyond the mortal realm then. I mean, it makes sense, within the universe, doesn't it, the vampires are vampires because of Amel, a spirit, and so the more powerful they are the more easily they can go beyond - at least Lestat can, later.

So... it is never stated in any final way if the ghost Lestat interacts with is actually real - or "just" a representation of his guilt. This is the last time he "sees" her in TtotBT (so no, not after the suicide, but after he turned David):

We were in the hotel room again in old New Orleans, and Claudia sat quietly on the chair. Outside, the little city winked here and there with its dull lamps. How dark and heavy the sky overhead, with no hint of the great aurora of the cities to come. "I told you I would do it again," I said to Claudia. "Why do you bother to explain to me," she asked. "You know perfectly well that I never asked you any questions about it. I've been dead for years and years."

And it is never stated in any final way if the spirit Merrick conjures is really Claudia - in fact Merrick doubts it within the story, when asked, even though she says 'yes' at first:

"But you do believe that it was Claudia?" I asked. "Oh, yes," she said. Her eyes were still red around the edges from her crying. I saw the tears standing there. "It was Claudia," she declared. "Or that thing which now calls itself Claudia, but the words it spoke? They were lies."

The thing which now calls itself Claudia...

I am not sure if Claudia would have been able to come back.

She burnt to ash - and her ashes were scattered.

I think the book (and movie) Claudia passed on.

The show Claudia... well, after the challenge at the trial (you go girl), I guess she found a way. I think, other than in the books they will pick that thread up and make her ghost factual.

Which I love, btw. I think it will be a very interesting way to introduce the spirits and ghosts to the general audience - they will be more willing to accept Amel later when they already are accustomed to ghost!Claudia I would think. (And for the body switching, too, you will need the "concept of souls" as Rolin called it)

As per how she would fit with the Akasha arc... well, in the same way she canonically fits with TtotBT would be my gut instinct. Like, maybe she is there with Lestat on Akasha's little rampage, giving biting commentary. (Now that I think about it I want it BADLY *laughs*)

She can just... be there, at times.

I do... not think that she will get another body/reincarnate.

I think Claudia is, as Nicolas, an important death within the narrative, and will stay that. Not because I don't want that for her, but because of who she was built on, in reality.

I do hope she will stay over the seasons.

My absolute favorite wish would be that she and Lestat (and Louis) would sit down, and ... become that "happy trio" once more, and that Claudia might then... go into the light, this time... without pain.

One more canon but unpopular GTA ship — Bernie Crane & Bryce Dawkins 💞

I myself love them dearly as a couple, though. And surely as particular characters too!

Despite the fact that they don't have much screen time in the game, they're interesting and deep characters. But most importantly, revealing the problem of self-acceptance (notably, internalized homophobia). This topic is incredibly significant for me, as long as I am a gay guy myself and I suffered from internalized homophobia a lot too in the past. It was terrible. I've said so many awful homophobic things, I was so damn scared people would find out about me being homosexual. So, I relate to both Bernie and Bryce in this case a lot. Some time later I want to post more about it all, since now I'm absolutely good with who I am and can freely speak out without feeling shame and guilt!

Yeah, speaking of revealing and getting back to our guys, I find it awesome how Rockstar revealed Bryce's character while he was only behind the screen. Niko (and, therefore, us) didn't even have a chance to see Bryce in person. We only can hear about him from the other characters (mainly from Bernie, of course), through the in-game radio or through the in-game internet. (Some articles are just priceless btw xD). Still though, analysing all that, we can see how hard it is for Bryce to accept who he really is. And since Bernie perfectly knows how hard is the struggle (he went through the same himself), he accepts and understands his boyfriend the best.

I mean, yeah, don't get me wrong, I'd just love to see more of them both! For example, I'm still very disappointed that there's no ability to have Bernie as a friend to hangout. It would have been so cool to see him and Niko go eating, bowling, boating, etc., while having meaningful conversations about the past, the war or about settling down in Liberty City. Or just chit-chatting, you know :)

But we have to content with what we have 💁🏻‍♂️

Anyways, since Bryce Dawkins, just like Evan Moss, barely gets any attention in the fandom, I will be the person who will try to give them both the honor, the love and the attention, that they deserve 🫶🏻

Lmao this is a fantastic criticism and to an extent I agree with you. I of course acknowledge that what Dr Rockso does in the series is fucked. But that's the entire point.

Dr Rockso is a satirical character. His whole entire purpose in Metalocalypse is to poke fun at what a lot of rockstars did back in the 70s and 80s with underage groupies. I personally, like Dr Rockso because he's just so absurd with the shit he says and does that it's laughable. That absolutely does not mean that I condone anything he has done. But he is a character that has done those things, not a real life person. He's just a caricature and I'm allowed to enjoy that. Very similar to other adult cartoons like South Park, Family Guy etc.

Now Sebastian and Ciel's dynamic is not written in that same satirical way. They do not serve the same purpose as Dr Rockso. They are a butler/master duo who are strictly within a professional contract and work together. Ciel wants to find out what happened to his parents and Sebastian wants his next meal. There is nothing remotely sexual between the two.

It's REAL PEOPLE in the Kuroshitsuji fandom, that are sexualising them and forcing a sexual relationship on them that does not canonically exist. It's the fact that REAL PEOPLE enjoy the idea of a minor and an adult being together. That's what is fucked and I will never ever go out of my way to actively feed into that and it doesn't matter what fandom. I would never write/draw explicit depictions of a minor character. That's where I was coming from with my post about SebaCiel.

I don't agree with Dr Rockso's antics, but I also don't agree with real people writing/drawing what is essentially CP. I am fully aware that I come across as hypocritical but in reality it's just not quite the same thing.

Speaking of shipping... I've always found it a bit challenging. I mean, I can ship what's usually popular with others. But with Donalni, I made an exception. Oh! I can share a little thing I created not too long ago.

So far I am only considering the 3D universe; with HD I still have to know and consider the entire plot in as much detail as possible…

Donalni (Donald Love/Toni Cipriani), of course, open my top. Their chemistry and dynamics just won over my heart, and the way they interact with each other makes their ship work. They look pretty good together and actually complement each other well, even without considering the fact that they can argue. The fact that there wasn't fan art and content about them for such a long time in the GTA fandom got me into drawing in this fandom (I was just "read only"), and it just got me attached to them, that's all;

Asuria (Asuka Kasen/Maria Latore). Let's say I love girls, and they just canon. Yes, they had a sexual relationship (if you read the dialogues in the game and delve into their essence, yeah), that's a fact. For me, they're simply the only one (canon) WLW (Women Loving Women) in the 3D universe. True, there's hardly any chemistry between them in the game, which makes it harder for me to connect with them, but I still love them (well, it was Rockstar Games' first attempt in 3D, and they were gradually learning the ropes).

Beyond that, honestly, I don't know, haha. When I was much younger and played GTA San Andreas, nothing really came to mind (God, now I see Carl/Woozie!). During my Vice City obsession, I shipped Tommy Vercetti and Lance Vance because Rockstar themselves dropped hints and jokes between them (but later on, I saw arts of Tommy/Ken, and after that, I honestly didn't know who to ship with whom, haha). In 2014, I even had a thought about Tommy Vercetti/Claude, and in 2015 is Heston/Huang (I know It's HD, and they're broOTP, huh), but all of these were playful thoughts because I wasn't really good at drawing. There was even a moment when I shipped Michael/Trevor just because it was popular, and that's it.

Everything changed with replaying/reviewing everything in adulthood because I simply grew up and began to understand things better, including the English language (Russian translations often stripped away a lot of meaning…). And then, Donalni blew my mind, just like Asuria did. I have a strange story, but it is what it is. Nevertheless, I'm never against other ships! Shipping is fun!

A Start - Shotgunshipping

alllll right!! After having meant to since I initially watched Saw III and started this account, I am FINALLY writing for shotgunshipping. I wanted to put it off until I'd given the movie a rewatch but an idea came up while I was listening to boygenius and I couldn't resist. My requests are open to shotgunshipping reqs as well so if anyone wants me to write for these two more (I love them as much as I love chainshipping I am just TERRIFIED of writing for Amanda and mischaracterizing her and so I've put it off) send something in!

Fic type- this has elements of everything but angst and hurt/comfort are the biggest genres.

Warnings- a couple of mentions of weed, references to saw canon-typical violence, and despite the fact that I think I at least halfway nailed it, characters might still be slightly ooc

Amanda has spent most of her time within Johns orbit fearing the end of his life, what it means for her own and what the hell she's meant to do in the aftermath of his death. She's refused to think about it because it can send her into a spiral faster than any one of Marks individual threats, can make her so erratic that she loses touch with herself and dissociates with wide-eyes and a mind that is far less calm than she appears externally.

But, seeing John dead in front of her? Her mind is running wild and her gaze is unmoving. She has no clue where she's meant to go from here, what she's meant to do.

Marks letter comes to mind for a split second, and in that split second she realizes it doesn't matter anymore. John is dead because Jeff Denlon has killed him, and when an autopsy is preformed Johns cause of death will be determined as decapitation and slightly premeditated murder.

Another part of her itches to call someone, and as she flees out of the warehouse and down the street, running until she's jamming the key into the door of the apartment she shares with Adam, she fumbles around with the idea. Who, exactly, could Amanda call? Outside of John and a very limited friendship with Adam that has only blossomed out of necessity, she has exactly nobody.

Her parents don't talk to her, haven't since she was a college student in her early 20s. She has no siblings to speak of, no extended family that's willing to talk to her.

When she steps into the apartment, she's admittedly more than a little surprised to see Adam sitting on the couch in their living room.

"Didn't you and Lawrence have a date tonight?"

"Our date will begin after Lawrence fixes whatever chaos you managed to harbor and after I've taken photos of the aftermath," Adam grins. "You look spooked beyond the capability of any 90s era slasher, though. What happened?"

"Nothing much," Amanda pairs it with a grin, internally scoffs at herself because she can tell, right off the bat, that Adam sees it and is entirely unconvinced. "Uh--Chinese food?"

"C'mon, rockstar," Adam laughs. "We've lived together for two years, been friends most of that time. What happened? Did the trap not go as expected?"

"Something like that," Amanda nods. "John died and I didn't hear Lynns trap go off so she might've survived somehow but I don't think the cops know I'm one of his apprentices--or, if they think they know, that they can verify it--and everything just feels messy. Everything is unsure and messy and I fuckin' hate it."

"Try to relax, first and foremost," Adam nods. "If they do know, they have no feasible reason to care. Johns death is all that the cops or the coroners will care about for the next few days at least, and if Lynn is still alive she'll probably be too spooked to go to the police. I remember I was scared, and that deterred me for half a week after I was let go from the hospital."

"Johns dead," Amanda whispers. "You should be jumping for joy right now."

"Despite the anger issues and the sarcasm, I am in fact decent enough to keep my joyous jumping out of your line of sight," Adam says. "He was like a surrogate dad to you, Ames. You're allowed to grieve him."

Amanda tries to smile at Adam, fails miserably. He gives her the decency of a pity laugh, gives her shoulder a squeeze in lieu of a hug and makes no attempt to stop her when she heads for her room.

Amanda gets high, goes to sleep in the outfit she'd been wearing since she'd gotten dressed that morning.

Amanda wakes up the next day to find Lawrence making breakfast while Adam takes a shower, nods at him in greeting as she sets the coffeemaker up to make coffee as strong as the maker can handle.

"News outlets have begun reporting on it," Lawrence says quietly. "Lynn escaped alive-- the trap malfunctioned and bomb squad disabled it and took it off her, although her husband was shot by an officer and didn't make it out alive-- and I had Mark do a bit of snooping and you've not come up at the NJPD precinct. Their records are clear of you thanks to a bit of blackmail and the knowledge of the fact that John is dead. If Mark does anything to Jill, I will have to respond accordingly but all things considered, our regular lives may resume as they were before we were tested."

Amanda was tested somewhere close to her 27th birthday, and in the two years since she became one of his apprentices, John has been the earth where she is the moon, always within his orbit. Unendingly watching him, looking after him, making sure his plans are executed as he intends.

Now, Amanda feels like there is nothing left for her. Nothing exists--nothing she deserves, anyhow--within her grasp. She has yet to determine how she feels about that, but she knows it's there.

"Thank you," Amanda whispers, grabbing a coffee mug from the cabinet she and Adam keep them in.

"You'll need to find proper work," Lawrence says. "Adam mentioned that he's just recently quit the full-time receptionist job he worked to get a vet degree. They might take you in."

"You shouldn't gun for that," Adam says as he comes into their already small kitchen. Two people in that kitchen is a breeze and a half, but three? Three and it starts feeling squishy. "And because Lawrence made it sound like I wouldn't be able to cover rent, I do still work, just not at the receptionist job. I worked as a dog groomer on the weekends to keep my mind away from the bathroom for a while, and they just hired me back on full time in a way that accommodates my studying schedule. I can put in a good word for you with Amara? She's currently banging the hiring manager if you decide to apply."

Amanda gives an ungraceful snort, nods slightly. "I'd appreciate that, thank you."

"You need more than a shitty part time job," Adam shrugs. "You get the gig as a receptionist, its forty hour weeks, double minimum wage plus six bucks and decent people."

Amanda nods, pours the coffee and adds three sugars and a splash of milk so that it's to her preference for the hot rendition of the drink.

Adam takes some from the pot she made, laughs a little as he drinks it straight out. "You made this strong. Are you okay?"

Amanda nods in a way that she hopes is believable. "Just need to be awake for a while is all," she says. "Need to go for a walk, I think? Stay out of the apartment a little while and get my head straight."

"Do whatever you need," Adam nods. "However, if my wandering fingers happen upon your weed stash..."

"You're only allowed to touch the weed I have if you aim to get Lawrence stoned," Amanda laughs a little at the idea. "Or if you're too anxious to sleep."

Being one of Jigsaws apprentices practically guarantees nightmares because being one of his apprentices practically guarantees being tested.

Amanda was tested before she worked with him. Adam and Lawrence were tested before they worked with him. All three of them deal with nightmares night in and out.

It was too common of an occurrence for Amanda to wake up at four in the morning, grab her box of joints, go outside and have smoked three when she'd hear Adam, ambling about the kitchen to grab his bowl--which he clean after each use and thus leave to the right of the kitchen sink--and some weed to smoke to ease his anxiety after he'd woken up from three separate nightmares in one stream of unconsciousness.

"I'll grab a bit more from my dealer," Adam says. "You're gonna need it, rockstar."

Amanda moves to leave the kitchen, coffee mug in hand as she goes. "Yeah, yeah," she says. "Might get lucky and stop dealing with the nightmares now he's gone."

"Might not," Lawrence says.

"Probably won't," Adam tacks onto the end of the sentence. Amanda heads for her room, finishes her coffee while she grabs a towel and the outfitting for the day before she showers and leaves the apartment.

The walks, it turns out, help a decent amount. The games continue because of Mark but Amanda has absolutely no part in them, and when Amara Lewinsky calls and tells her she's gotten the receptionist job that Adam had quit in the name of eventually getting his degree as a vet, Amanda actually sighs in relief.

Weeks have passed since Johns death. Jill Tuck is nowhere to be seen or heard of, but the games have continued which means Mark is still running rampant.

It's late December when she sees Lynn again, clutching her daughters hand as they wait in line at a cafe near the heart of the city. It's a short walk across from the hotel and Amandas favorite place to go on her half hour break because the line is never long and the coffee is unendingly decent. Adam had told her to try their carrot muffins and, even though it creates something of a divergence in her usual routine, Amanda intends to do that that day.

Lynn turns around, eyes widening when she sees Amanda. Amanda tries to smile but it comes out more like a grimace, and Amanda shoves her hands into the pockets of the jacket she wears, yearns for one of the edibles she'll take during the break she'll get closer to four.

"Hi," Lynn greets. "It's been a while."

"Yeah," Amanda nods. "It has been. I think I owe you an apology."

"If you want to give me your number, we can organize something more cohesive? I--I assume you've got better things to do and I have to make sure that Corbett is back at school by one."

Amanda nods. Lynn ends up giving Amanda her card--one with her personal cell written on the back--and then she turns around and the two stop interacting.

Amanda gets herself a carrot muffin and an iced black coffee to-go that day, eats the muffin in the break room while she gives Amara a watered-down version of the interaction with Lynn and why it had shaken her up so much, tries not to think of Lynn or her silky and gorgeous black hair despite it.

She calls Lynn in the early oughts of January 2004. It's eight-thirty and she has thirty minutes until she has to be at work, which is a fifteen minute drive away, but the card with her number on it has practically burnt a mark into it's place on her night stand.

"Hello?"

"Hi," Amanda hates how feeble her voice sounds. "I just--I wanted to call and apologize for trying to kill you and threatening you with a gun and everything that happened in the warehouse. I am notoriously terrible at this kind of thing, and if you're angry at me I deserve it and am fine with that."

"I've been trying to figure out how I want to look at that," Lynn says. "The way I see it, you were manipulated by him. His death clearly devastated you and you have a lot of work to do in terms of undoing the ways he warped your psyche, but all things considered, you're forgiven. Are you free for coffee anytime soon?"

"I have work," Amanda felt a small piece of the guilt she had been dealing with lift itself off her shoulders. "But I'm free after! We can meet at the cafe across the road--Maries? I can meet you there for six."

"Perfect! They really know their way around a drip coffee and I'll need the caffeine anyway," Amanda hears some shuffling on Lynns end, pops a mint and moves to the kitchen, stealing a donut from the dozen Adam had likely bought in place of munchies on one of his rarer days off. "See you then!"

"Yeah," Amanda nods, and the call ends.

She grabs her car keys and the over-the-shoulder bag she uses in place of a purse and leaves the apartment without another word.

Lynn looks well. It's the first thing Amanda notices about her, the way that her hair has been let down from the bun she wears to work and the neutral expression on her face. She looks tired but that doesn't come as a shock and in the general sense, she looks really peaceful.

Amanda sits down across from her at the booth she's chosen. Lynns face spreads out into a grin when Amanda sits across her and Amanda has the decency to give her the same.

"How was work?" Lynn asks, voice even and sure and everything that Amanda is not.

"It was good," Amanda says. "I like the coworkers and the environment. Very easy to get used to."

It doesn't feel like small talk is the kind of thing either of them are really built for or meant to do, but there has to be a leeway into the deeper stuff so Amanda is fine to keep going with it, to go along with the small talk for as long as Lynn chooses to make her.

"Thats good," she says. "I ordered you an iced black coffee. Noticed you walked out with it the first time we met here. Also grabbed blueberry muffins--they're the best kind."

"I'm partial to a strawberry muffin from time to time," Amanda says. "But I can't argue. Blueberry muffins are pretty good."

Lynn nods. "So you work across the road?"

"As a full time receptionist," Amanda nods in turn. "Not really what I'd like to be doing but it's a start."

"Starts are good," Lynn says. Amanda kind of wants to go home, regrets agreeing to it at all, but at the same time, she knows that she needs it and that Lynn needs it for the sake of peace of mind.

"And you're not--the stuff that--the recent Jigsaw killings. That's not you?"

"No," Amanda says, voice earnest and a little desperate. "It's not me. I have no part in any of it anymore--that part of me died when John did."

Lynn nods like she believes Amanda. Amanda hopes that she does so sincerely.

"Okay," Lynn says. "Then thats a start, at least."

Amanda grins. A waitress brings their coffee and food, and Amandas gaze moves to her coffee as it's set in front of her.

She thanks the waitress absentmindedly, thanks Lynn for paying for the coffee and the muffins.

She knows it's not the greatest day, and she knows that it's unfair to expect their first--technically second--meeting to land on even footing.

But she also takes it exactly as it is. It's a start, and that's all that matters.

Charlie pushed open the wooden door of Magda’s office and walked in, Dragon at his heels. Magda was scribbling furiously on a sheet of parchment and didn’t even look up as Charlie walked over to her desk and sat down opposite her.

Magda is my favourite of my minor characters. She is loosely based on a lady I worked for as a waitress in my teens. She terrified me, but she got shit done. We should all aspire to be a little bit more Magda from time to time.

“I’m surprised you even agreed to it, to be honest.”

“I am surprised, also. But your friend, the one who is helping to set up these challenges, she is very persuasive. And I think she cares about the dragons, also.”

“She is, and she does.”

“I liked her much more than I expected to.”

Charlie laughed gently. He knew all about that.

“She’s got a way of doing that,” he said, and Magda’s eyebrows shot upwards.

“You should say something to her, Charlie,” she told him, her voice stern.

All my HP stories exist in a continuum with canon stories and each other. This means that there are lots of references to events from other stories in them. This originally reference Y4 of the HP books, and now the Wilderness Years references this scene (or leads into it, I should say). People who speak Romanian or decided to go and translate Magda’s words to Charlie that Artemis didn’t understand (there were a lot of them, actually - yourself included!) will already know that Charlie knows that Magda knows that he knows about his feelings for Artemis. I think the only person in this situation who doesn’t know anything is Artemis, which is ironic considering that she is the Legilimens.

Maybe if things were different she would feel the same way about me as I do about her. If we’d met at a different time or… I don’t know.”

“In another life, maybe.”

“Maybe. But as it is, she sees me as a brother or a best friend. I’m not going to take either of those things away from her. I can’t do that to her.”

Aye, there’s the rub. This is the moment this whole story built towards, not Charlie’s realisation, but this. Learning To Fly was written as a canon retelling of the Rockstar AU, where in another life, where things are different, Artemis does feel the same way about Charlie as he does for her, but in this life he no longer harbours romantic feelings in return. In both universes, one has made the decision to keep their feelings a secret for the benefit of the other and for their friendship. Which I, being the sad Brit I am, really love. The line about the best friend and the brother broke my heart in the best possible way.

The door to Magda’s office flew open, and Dragon the Crup began to bark loudly at the newcomer: Nikolai, one of the newest dragonologists on the reserve, only eighteen years old and barely six months out of school.

Back to dragonology, here comes Nikolai, whose name matters less than the fact that he has come to act as a foil to Charlie and show you as a reader how far Charlie has come since the start of the story, when he was in Nikolai’s position.

“Incendio,” he whispered, setting one half of the nest alight. He stamped out the flames, and crouched down to move the three hatchlings onto the warm embers. “Here you go, look. Nice and toasty. Just stay there a minute.”

He turned his attention back to the fourth egg, picking it up and finding the weak point where the hole had appeared at the apex. Hoping that it wasn’t too late, he prised open the shell, freeing the lifeless baby dragon inside. He placed the tip of his index finger under the hatchling’s tail.

It had a pulse.

He opened the baby dragon’s mouth, and saw that it was filled with fluid. No longer caring about his own dignity, he placed his lips to the hatchling’s face and sucked the fluid away, clearing its airways so that it could breathe. He placed it next to its siblings on the embers, where it began to stir, stimulated by the movement of the others in the clutch. Charlie smiled. They were alive. All four of them were alive.

All the dragon husbandry, anatomy, physiology and behaviour is based on that of real life animals, particularly birds, reptiles, and wolves. In this situation, warmth and clearing airways is exactly what’s needed for neonates. The emphasis on keeping the dragons warm is based on my own headcanon that dragons are cold-blooded like other reptiles, and that the fire they breath is actually used to keep them warm internally, not just for defence/attack. This young, the dragonlings wouldn’t have developed the anatomy to produce their own fire and need an external heat source to warm their own bodies.

But the flames never came. Instead of burning him alive, the dragon merely snorted. Charlie frowned, and the dragon snorted again. He opened his eyes and looked at her.

“Norbert?”

You wouldn’t believe the number of times I got comments from people whilst publishing the story to say “you do know this dragon is female, right?”. Yes, I do know that, actually. But Charlie doesn’t, not yet, anyway. And there is a reason for that.

This is why Norbert(a)’s true self wasn’t revealed yet - this unexpected reunion. Also, I love the idea that Charlie has become so capable and knowledgable, but even he made the basic error of not checking whether the dragon was actually male or not. It happens a lot in real life (you’d be surprised).

Before he flew back home, he turned back to take one last look at the small family of dragons, huddled together in the cave.

“Goodbye, Norberta,” said Charlie.

And this time, he meant it.

I could have gone for some big flowery description of scenery or feelings or morality, but I didn’t. This story and the characters in it don’t suit that. This is a simple story of finding and making your way in life. Charlie and Norberta have helped each other to do that, and now the part of their journey that they have shared is over. It’s time for them both to go home. The end.

some thoughts on time lord age.

this is just the general layout I use in my head, I make no claims that it’s particularly canon.

so, fact: a time lord who manages not to get poisoned or shot or dropped off of high buildings can live over 1000 years in the same incarnation. we know this from 11. 11 was really old when he died so let’s round down to a solid 1000 yrs/incarnation. meaning an ordinary time lord who has 13 incarnations and dies of old age (or age-related diseases or ‘I’m tired of my arthritis I’m going to schedule a regeneration’) can live 13,000 years.

(I am assuming that translation convention converts all mentions of ‘years’ we hear into earth years, or at least as many as is possible and consistent, because otherwise there’s just no telling anything. or at least something vaguely near earth years. I am also assuming that an incarnation, at least after the first regeneration, can start at any apparent age but will visibly age in some ways as time goes on, because that just makes sense to me.)

but aurelia! you say. the incarnations can’t all live 1000 years. the First Doctor died of old age and was definitely nowhere near 1000. (according to the wiki he was 450. I am not in general relying on the wiki for these thoughts, but there you go.)

true! one possibility is that the first body is more like that of a pre-rassilon gallifreyan, including a shorter lifespan of only a few centuries (and only one heart), and the 1000 years thing applies only once you’ve regenerated for the first time. this works fine. (although even under this hypothesis, they probably have lifespans of at least several centuries, because Romana I is over 100 and shows no visible signs of aging.)

but I also have a theory about the first doctor which is that he has a heart disease. this is why Ian only hears one heart in Edge of Destruction--not that the doctor only has one, but that he only has one working and making recognizable heart-like noises. in real life William Hartnell played older than he was partly because his poor health made him fit ‘old man’ roles, and I think that also fits well with the character now that we know he is supposed to be young for his species. so, one is: -a decent way through his first incarnation, old enough to have done natural aging to the extent we see (which is fashionable on Gallifrey anyway). -but not old enough that he should ordinarily be having to think about regenerating yet. -but he is (a) suffering from a heart condition (which is, btw, probably not super fun on Gallifrey given the low-key eugenicist tendencies!) and (b) specifically, running around the universe rather than staying at home seeing his cardiologist regularly. Which, in short, is why he collapses at 450 in The Tenth Planet.

So back to what I was saying, which is that the expected total lifespan of a Time Lord is about 13,000 years.

Now Six is pushing halfway through his regenerations, and he’s barely 900. His non-renegade agemates back on Gallifrey are thinking about their first regenerations, and he’s died five times already. That’s got to have an impact--especially when humans are being awed at how old he is. No wonder he has such a midlife crisis.

Seven, at 953, has used up half his regenerations. that’s an average of 136 years per body. if you follow the general implication that he went renegade at about 200ish, then that’s an average of about 100 years/body as a renegade. at this rate--and he doesn’t see any reason to think the rate will change; it’s not as if he’s going to change his lifestyle--he can expect to live to about 1650. By the standards of people who can live over ten thousand years, that’s dying young.

Tragically young, I would say, but who’s going to see it as a tragedy? They’ll shake their heads and say, what a shame, but of course, he was a renegade. It’s like hearing that a rockstar has died young: it’s more a bit of gossip than a surprise, for most people.

I don’t think the Doctor thinks about that a lot; I think he spends enough time with humans and other short-lived species to think of himself as already being very old, and Seven at least has enough faith in his own luck to expect that something will turn up. (It’s a different question with Six, who has no faith in his own luck whatsoever; maybe I’ll write a fic about that.)

So that’s what I think about Time Lord ages.

(I do also think he starts over counting at Eight’s regeneration and possibly again at the Time War, but that’s a different essay.)

OHHH i am being held gunpoint to reveal information,,, and reveal information i will do,,, but first i need to explain one thing which is that there is a Fic Series i have been Writing The Past 2 Years (although i haven't touched it for like Over Half A Year because my education has been edu-slaughtering me despite the fact i've reached the half-way point now which is funny to think about) and i think i would feel like an embarrassed teenager if i actually shared any links to it because i think it had a Very Rough Start looking back and bc of that there's a lot of choices that can look Weird and feel Rushed and i am far too Harsh On Myself even though i also boast a lot about it to my Buddies (they can attest to that i went on a symbolism ramble earlier) BUT i can explain Luna and the others!!!! aka the ones i frequently tag posts with so i will of course start with the protagonist

Eren (not aot (i should probably start saying ETW Eren instead) is actually Eren (from aot) but you've seen those posts that are like "i took this guy from this literature and started writing him and a lot happened and now there are only faint traces of the original stitched within this man that shares the same name" yeah it's that kind of situation!!!! while he still has 1. a strong desire for freedom 2. a very flat butt 3. a ripped body (in more ways than one depending on the scene) 4. horrible decision making then what makes him very different is that 1. he is everyone's winning son and that means the world! he also has some identity issues here and there and occasionally gets into illegal activities because he is a little too naive for his own good despite looking a bit like a biker-pirate-werewolf (affectionate)

but he is otherwise a Loving Fellow that cares deeply for everyone (Luna gave him a Hatsune Miku eyepatch as a late birthday present after they became friends and despite his initial repulsion he wears it like a mark of pride (he hurt his eye once nothing too important)) but he's just a little misguided and does very dumb things because he's very conflicted inside! but otherwise he's just very curious about the things he'd never get to do if he was still living in his hometown due to the overbearing weight of expectations and burdens from the greatness of his family (dad's side is a family of doctors as is consistent with aot canon but his grandparents from his mom's side were a scholar and the other a rockstar)

Now Luna is like if a raccoon worked in the corner store you go to in the middle of the night to find a bottle of water after waking up someplace you don't know with a really dry mouth and a mysteriously broken wrist. very annoying. very attached. very loving too. for some reason very athletic despite being lazy and knows things that aren't important at all but will fill the hole in your head now. now they did not actually choose their name but while he and Eren were on the beach together reminiscing over hellish moments of their lives and Luna was having a "how can i leave the person i used to be in the dust when i can't even choose a name for myself" then Eren, ever-so-bright, remembered that time his big brother Zeke taught him about these really cool moths that were the same colour as Luna's eyes and went "have you heard about these moths they're really cool" and Luna, as lovestruck as a fucking idiot can be, went "Luna rolls off the tongue nicely :)" while eating a mcflurry eren bought for him so surprisingly their name is not Luna bc of the moon but bc of the cool moth that is really pretty and can't be detected by bats meaning moon symbolism does not rock with them lolika if you're reading this i'm still gonna gut you for that but there is a Bitch

that gorgeous Bitch is Naoya and he's like Eren in that he's not an OC but i hijacked him from a piece of media and frankenstein'd him into something else (this time persona 1 he's the protagonist) but Naoya is that guy you see everywhere that has something profoundly wrong with him yet you still kinda wanna Be With Him because his vibes are Delicious and Eren recognized that after they were fishing together once and that led to them "adopting" Denji (from chainsawnman he's also involved in illegal activities with very creepy guardians aka makima and he's a few years younger than the both of them and eren has a milf instinct to keep people younger than him Safe) but also Naoya says really concerning things sometimes but Eren is too busy going "boy,, pretty,, lipstick,,, earring,,," to overhear "tbh i think a lot of the world's problems could be solved if killing was legal anyway eren my Comrade (flirting) do you wanna watch my play" i don't know why i chose to make him in charge of a theater ensemble but he also had like 309298509 jobs before shooting up in stardom after making 1 banger that denji slept through but lunaoya only met once off-screen i think and luna is Very wary of him because there is something Deeply Fucking Wrong With That Guy but Eren's very "he gave me his earring before he left for the US..." like the freakish little lover that he is and i imagine naoya's feelings on luna are very "(green goblin voice) you and i can smoke the fattest blunt together spider-man"

speaking of the green goblin there is also Coral who is Luna's childhood bestie and she is not green in real life but she is a vtuber with a crocodile princess thing called croc cordia and that crocodile is very green (there are no drawings of any of the cast because i can't draw) although she herself is the only american in the cast which is not important at all but is really funny. she isn't my oc by the way she's my good buddy's @lolika-0777 creature that i saw one holy night and then we had a brainblast of "do you think she'd hold hands with luna" and they went "oguhgohgsoghugsguughGOGYGOh" as i performed a CIA move on them to make them agree and then we had a strong moment of camaraderie as we decided coraluna are so in love but coral and eren are like siblings in that they see each other and either have a short and sweet moment together or they traumatize each other for three minutes and never speak of it again but one thing is for sure and that is that luna has 2 hands for both of them and hey why is one hand sliding away luna no the economy oh god

i also have an oc unrelated to all of that fic stuff named lucy that's my good buddy @swordlover87's oc erin's wife they got married in some roleplay because erin was in awe of lucy's 8ball swagger and lucy was in awe of erin's naive swagger i think it was a high school rp with superpowers lots of stuff happened i was there for like 4 minutes total to have them flirt and kiss and then i occasionally saw some crazy things went "woah" and then read beastars over a few days and then i watched i think it was the monster anime (i did that over 2 days) and then black sails (that was like a week) and then when i came back things were Over and i nodded and said "erilucy is real" and then me and swords held each other tenderly every night after knowing our (platonic) love is true and just even in the eyes of god but alas our tale is one cursed with tragedy and by the end he will have to slay me as i have slain what love we had for greater ambition that was as corrupt as the blood of god himself

I believe Rolin said they were going to lean more into the present-day rockstar stuff to avoid the show being 'all backstory'. Best not to take Rolin too literally I guess, but he does seem excited about the rockstar arc and the music and I figure this would also be a way to keep Louis and Daniel more present on the show too. Obviously there will be TVL flashbacks, but I'm guessing the story will be balanced a little more evenly between past and present than s1 & 2 were. Do you think this means they'll split TVL over 2 seasons? It's quite a hefty book and there's a lot of ground to cover. They're clearly interested in exploring Nickistat as they set up Nicki so early, and they've planted seeds for Magnus, Marius, Akasha etc. I very much doubt Rolin will neglect TVL as he said it's the whole reason he wanted to do the show, but there's...so much of it lol. The other thing I'm wondering, do you think Lestat's backstory will be told chronologically? Louis was quite strict about keeping his story in order, but may Lestat be a bit more fluid in telling his? Especially since even non book-readers already know a lot of the main story beats by now? And he's apparently displeased with Louis's book, I wouldn't put it past him to launch straight into Rue Royale flashbacks to 'set the story straight' before he even starts on his own backstory lol.

Apart from the actual book Lestat writes within the narrative (aka the second book, "The Vampire Lestat") he tells his story and the story of the vampires via the music videos.

I can see the show doing this, too. The fact that they named two musicals that have a strong story made me perks my ears up, too. Because I can see them tell Lestat's story within the musical (songs). It would also be a parallel/nod to the existing Lestat musical.

Additionally I do expect "true" flashbacks, yes. But probably not as many as we got in the previous seasons, nor do I see them necessarily in order. We already got a lot of corner stones, and that little part that Armand told (for example) could be picked to be questioned by Daniel (for example^^).

I do want Daniel to have a bitch fest with Lestat^^- pretty please. I mean, it seems I am not getting my wish with them all on the couch *heavy sigh*... so I do hope we will get those two getting along like a house on fire at least^^. Canonically Lestat does like Daniel (and Daniel seems to like him, loves the concert) when he meets him, they go out hunting together. So I hope the show hooks into that and explores it a bit deeper for the show.

I can also see Lestat break the fourth wall. Talk directly to "us".

We'll see. But I wouldn't put it past them to do all of these things, actually. Keep us on our toes, too.

I do think the "real Lestat" will feel vastly different. We have had a distorted image, and distorted for reasons both of Louis' making - and not of Louis' making.

It will be very interesting to see the whole picture click into place.

We all know Freddy and Friends on Tour which is a canonical cartoon in the SB universe, right?

Well, I had an idea.

I like to think that at one point during the 90s it was sold at the restaurant as a promotional thing like those Adventures of Ronald McDonald tapes. This was back when Fazbear Entertainment was trying to get back its footing after the missing children incidents and the bite of 87. Some people called it tone deaf, but the kids really liked it so it was a big hit. (Granted, the videos on Steel Wool's channel were only a little under two minutes long. So let's just say these were the title theme openings.) There were four episodes in total each with its own tape that contained some bonus footage such as ads for the restaurant and previews for other tapes to pad out the runtime. Henry sunk a lot of money into the project to try and revive the business. (Which explains the 70's Scooby-Doo look and feel to it, he's not really in touch with what's popular with the kids and it was all just promotional so he couldn't care less.) Maybe they were planning on airing it on TV and made more episodes but that fell through after the closing of the restaurant in FNaF 1. Someone must have found the master tapes of the episodes somewhere, and now they show them in the Fazbear Theater much to the delight of parents and the confusion of kids.

Now, where am I going with this?

I'll admit, I saw this idea on a TikTok first, and I'm not copying the idea, just putting my own take on it. But since Fazbear Entertainment now has such a vice grip on pop culture in this universe, what if the Pizzaplex has its own cartoon for the new generation of Fazkids?

So this was in production for a couple of years but during that time Bonnie got replaced with Monty, so now he just isn't mentioned anywhere in the show in an effort to get kids to stop asking about him.

The show centers around the main four as rock star celebrities living in their mansion in Fazbear Hills, (which is conveniently located just outside the Pizzaplex.) with a few other characters thrown in purely for advertisement reasons. In each episode one of the main four (or occasionally a side character) runs into an issue and everyone needs to team up to fix it. They always succeed through the power of friendship and music. There's also some lessons tacked on for parental approval. It's very reminiscent of 2000's era shows like My Dad the Rockstar, Dave the Barbarian, and the earlier seasons of SpongeBob.

Freddy is presented as the levelheaded leader of the band, who is a gentle giant with a garden. In fact his main running gag is something or someone running over his flowers. He's usually one of the members to help fix the problems, and very rarely does he have a problem of his own. He's very much the "Dad Friend" of the group. His catchphrase is, of course, "Way to go, Superstar!"

Chica is, of course, the big eater and is very bubbly and friendly if she isn't the focus of the episode. Other characters will rarely comment on her eating habits but her main running gag of the series is that she's always offering to finish other people's food or asking if the band members are still saving something that's in the fridge. Her catchphrase is "Let's go, Popstar!"

Monty is the one with anger issues, of course, but in a twist the show usually shows him in control of his anger until something finally makes him snap (and he also meditates). His main running gag is that he'll start to get upset over something and as he gets progressively more upset one character will say "Uh oh, he's getting angry." Followed by another saying "Really angry!" Followed by a third character saying "He's gonna blow!" And everyone prepares for the worst, only for Monty to take a deep breath and be perfectly calm and take care of the issue. Only for whatever he was doing to go completely wrong upon which he'll go bezerk. (Almost always after a brief moment where everyone lets their guard down.) His catchphrase is "Rock and Roll, Lil' Guy/Gal!" Or simply just "Rock and Roll!"

Roxy is the haughty, a bit self centered but does care about her friends. She actually has two sort of running gags in the show. One where a character will hug her and she'll say "You have two seconds" wait, and either shove them off and say "Okay, times up" or give into the hug with a sigh (especially if it's a group hug.) The other one where after doing something nice or meaningful for a character they will thank her and she'll say "Don't mention it…literally." It's implied that she and Chica might be in a relationship, but it's all very subtle so as to not lose business. Her catchphrase is "Alright, Rockstar!"

Sunny and Moon are separate beings from each other but rarely seen by the others in the same room as each other, leading to a joke where Chica and Monty have a conspiracy that they're the same person. (Even if they've seen the two together.) They do live in the mansion with the others but are very, very rarely the focus of an episode, and if they are it's almost always a sibling rivalry type plot between the two. In episodes that feature both of them, their running gag is that thing where they accidentally speak in unison but everything they say is exactly what the other was going to say.

Sunny is of course very energetic and anxious while Moon is more chill and easygoing, Sunny is up very early and passes out at the same time every night while Moon sleeps during most of the day and only comes out when it's nighttime. Sunny has his own running gag where he'll ramble on oblivious to what the others are saying to him until one of them yells to get his attention, and Moon has his own running gag where he'll get woken up by one of the wacky ways the others will try to fix a problem and yell out his door or window "HEY! I'M TRYING TO SLEEP HERE!" Sunny's catch phrase is "Great job, Sunshine!" And Moon's is "Nice work, Starlight."

DJMM (Usually just referred to as DJ) is the character that very rarely speaks or even appears in an episode. He prefers to keep to himself and doesn't have a running gag or catchphrase. He lives in the large shed in the backyard of the mansion.

Captain Foxy was a weird addition to the show, since before the concept the show was even born his animatronic was the first one to get decommissioned due to the Afton virus, so not many kids remember him or even know he existed. (Oops, there goes my headcanons.) Even then, he's from a graphic novel series with a tie-in movie in-universe and not really related to the main four anyway. So his character is equally as obscure and only appeared in the first season of the show. He lived at the lake behind Fazbear Hills in his cabin. He was planned to have a mid-show segment where he would tell a story of his old pirating days, only for the character he's telling the story to to deny that it ever happened, and then something would happen to imply that it actually did once that character left. But, the company decided against it, and he was relegated to just a crotchety old man who would yell at the characters to "YARRR, KEEP IT DOWN OVER THARRR!" and then written out of the show completely in the second season.
