The House of Usher: Children's Timeline

I've attempted to put together a timeline of the Usher children's birthdays, ages, arrivals in the family, and one big missing question.

1975/1976?: Frederick (no specific indication, but apparently two to three years older than Tamerlane) d. age 47/48?

1978: Tamerlane (per gravestone, ep. 8) d. 45

Her age is listed as 40 in her newspaper clipping (ep. 1), but this seems both impossible given she was born before New Years 1980 and also a potentially in-character lie if she was trimming her own age for commercial success in the wellness industry.

1984: Victorine (per gravestone, ep. 8) d. 39

1986: Napoleon (year per grave, ep. 8, and age per newspaper, ep. 1, must be a late November/December birthday) d. 36

1988?: Camille (per posthumous press release, ep. 4) d. 35

The press release after her death lists her age as 35, which Tamerlane insinuates is a lie.  However, Camille is younger than Napoleon (36/37), and Tamerlane herself seems to be lying about her own age.  This may also be a touch of the two “legitimate” children not getting the ages of their half-siblings correct, either consciously or subconsciously (see Prospero).

1996: Perry (per sales pitch to Roderick and Madeline, ep. 1) d. 27

Frederick references his conception as 25 years ago (ep. 2), but this may either be general rounding or refusing to remember his half-siblings ages accurately.

2004/2005: Leo joins the Ushers (age 18, ep. 3)

2007?: Lenore (per gravestone, hard to read) d. 16?

2008/2009: Camille joins the Ushers (age 20, ep. 3)

2012/2013: Perry joins the Ushers (age 16, ep. 3)

The major missing piece for me is when Victorine joins the family.  As the first half-sibling to emerge, her existence would be a major turning point for the family and the full siblings in particular.  My impression is that she may have joined the family at a younger age, especially given her reference to the three youngest as “The Littles," asking Frederick and Tamerlane if they remember when The Littles showed up and how annoying they were (ep. 5). She is only two years older than Leo, but her longer time in the family may lead her to seeing them as younger/newer additions. In the same conversation, Tamerlane also references remembering when Victorine herself showed up, so there was some time in their youth before Vic's parentage was revealed.  Victorine also calls Roderick “daddy” and speaks to him as a younger child in her death scene (ep. 5), which may be their dynamic from her adulthood only but suggests they may have known each other in her youth.

She mentions being raised by a single mother who was a nurse, uses her maternal surname, and still retains her British accent – so my guess would be that she joined the family after age ten but younger than the ages of 18/20. I can think of a few options:

She could have known Roderick for some time in her youth but been raised by her mother/in England with that knowledge

Her mother is not present at her funeral – her mother could have died, speeding up the process of her joining the family as a child or preteen

Roderick simply could have brought his first “illegitimate” child into the fold much more quickly because it was his first rodeo

Whatever happened, my suspicion is that she joined the family in some capacity around age 12/13 (1996-ish) and was the only outsider child for a good eight or so years before Leo arrived.

On the 19th, ATEEZ released a preview video of the track list of its second full-length album "THE WORLD EP. FIN: WILL" on its official YouTube channel. The released tracklist preview drew attention as it was able to briefly show the instrumental of the 12 songs in the album. First, the title song, "Crazy Form," is a dancehall genre song based on Afrobeat rhythm, and will open the next chapter of their music, showing a new style of music that ATEEZ will present while showing a different feeling of excitement. In addition to the title song "Crazy Form," the album includes "WE KNOW," which says the answer is all in the heart, "Emergency," which expresses the strong presence of ATEEZ, "ARRIBA," an exotic sound, "Silver Light," which has an impressive dreamy synth sound, and "Crescent Part.2," which connects one dimension to another. In addition, there are a total of 12 songs, including "Dreamy Day" that says one doesn't want to break each dreamy day, "MATZ," which contains explosive chemistry between Hongjoong and Seonghwa, "IT's You," which expresses the fascinating emotions of the three members of Yeosang, San and Wooyoung, "Youth," in which Mingi and Yunho led the lyrics and composition, "Everything," which delicately depicts Jongho's mournful feelings, and finally "Final: WILL". Previously, ATEEZ released an impressive track list of 12 moon-shapes that gradually rose over time, proving their extraordinary musical capabilities with all members named in the credits. As such, ATEEZ, who have made the group's color clearer, predicted that they would reach the public with a variety of genres of music and upgraded skills.

the shameless character ages drive me crazy! I made an age chart a few years ago for a fic I never published and managed to kinda make it fit? The major hiccup I found was that the lip/ian Irish twins popular trope doesn’t work because lip mentions in s1 that he’s 17 (which would also make mickey at least 17 because they were in the same classes). so I kinda concluded from that that mickey’s birthday was actually august 93 and lip’s was march 94. ian’s was may 96 which means he turned 15 between seasons 1 and 2. 1.12 - 3.01 takes place over the course of a year - s1 must end between lip’s march birthday and ian’s may birthday of 2011 and 3x01 begins Easter of 2012. this works with mickey turning 18 in 2011 but still returning to juvie because some youths can apparently stay in juvie in illinois until they’re 21. I think I ended up figuring out that the first 5 seasons happen over the course of 4 years and the rest happen over the course of around 6 years (from debbie’s pregnancy to just after franny’s 5th birthday). sorry this whole ask is chaotic af 🤣 but I thought I’d add my 2 cents

my one point of issue with this - although it's all opinion based so you could be right - is that Lip and Mickey can be in the same class and be different ages. Mickey can still be 16 when in Lip's year or grade, since he's born in August. he's born just before the cut off (at lease the cut-off that I know of would be September) so he can be in the same grade and just be one of the youngest. I might be wrong, because the season is set in winter so I guess Mickey's bday must have passed, but idk. I don't remember seeing Lip say he's 17, and when I looked it up google (which is very easily wrong about these things) said he's also 16 in season 1. I'm not sure though, if you know which ep/scene he says it that would be helpful.

also, sorry to go on, but if mickey's birthday was august 1993, he would be in the year above Lip, because he'd be just before the September cut off. There's a chance he was moved down to Lip's grade or I've heard of people born around august/September getting to choose which grade, but I think it's more likely that it was 1994.

also, I've heard from most people that season 1 and 2 take place over a year total, so I don't know what you mean with the '1.12-3.01 taks place over the course of a year'. I was always under the impression that 1.1 - 2.12 took place over around a year. I could be wrong, though.

another reason I think mickey is younger for longer, is that Ian is meant to be 17 at the start of season 4 and 15 at the start of season 1. this seems pretty fucking impossible to be honest, and I'll try and figure it out when I do his ages next, but it doesn't make sense for mickey to go up about three/four years in age while Ian only ages 2.

my theory may not be entirely accurate, but I tried to tie it in as best as possible with juvie and other characters. as for being kept in juvie over 17, i researched it and someone can be kept in juvie until they are 18/19, but if they break the law when they are over 18, they will not go to juvie. I don't know if I'm explaining it well, but here's a quote 'Someone is a juvenile in the criminal justice system if they broke or attempted to break any Illinois law before they turned 18 years old. '

Knights of the Meshi (Ep 2):

“It’s more than enough,” Theron answered, a bit of uncertainty leaking into his tone as he stared at the foodstuffs. The vegetables taunted him from their comfy spot atop the counter next to the impressive array of knives and cooking utensils laid out side-by-side like an interrogation toolkit. “...I think.” He wiped the tip of his nose.

Theron hated to admit it, but he was no culinarian. Master Zho had never taught him (really, what could you teach a kid to cook in the wilderness besides canned goods and pre-packaged rations), and his stint as a SIS agent since his youth had left him with little time to prepare nor care. The extent of his cooking repertoire could quickly be summed up to sticking a frozen Orobird leg in the flash oven and waiting for two minutes, sadly.

So why was he making an effort now?

The image of the Commander’s tired face weary from battle and sleepless nights, aging lines etched deep into their skin with the carvings of a destiny too large for one person, flashed in Theron’s mind. He’d seen the way they’d fought–skipped meals, denied themselves sleep, hid the way their gaze turned vacant when they thought no one was looking, left their cafeteria plate practically untouched, compounded blackened bottoms of endless cups of caf, the stims—the Commander was burning themselves at both ends.

Hypocritical as it was, he couldn’t stand watching them drive themselves into the ground. The galaxy’s fate was important, but…not as important as they were to Theron. Yet he found himself at a loss; what words he wanted to tell them to eat better, to sleep more, to stop hurting themselves fell short whenever the Commander gave him that one look. That look of resignation, deep as the dull ache that would settle in his chest afterwards.

“I’m okay,” They’d tell him, smiling wan, “Thank you, Theron.” It’s alright. It’s nothing. Don’t worry about me.

This is the same as love! The dopamine secreted from one love will last 2 to 3 months before it begins to diminish. It will all be gone in 3 years.

In simple terms, it’s the “third year affair”!

Netaro: Yep! In terms of brain science, it’s impossible to rely on romantic feelings to stay happy forever.

The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION — TOMORROW X TOGETHER: A review

Published Monday, February 13th, 2023 — The story of Peter Pan has been a beloved children’s fairy tale for many years and has been told and retold in a plethora of ways—but never quite like this.

Introduction

Big Hit Music, formerly known as Big Hit Entertainment, under HYBE Labels (or HYBE Corporation) has a well-established reputation for storytelling through music. There are entire universes contained in the very fabric of their songs, birthing entire books and Webtoon series (see: BTS’s 花樣年華 The NOTES and 7FATES: CHAKHO; TXT’s THE STAR SEEKERS; and ENHYPEN’s DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR). Elements of these stories are presented through the artists’ music videos and, when watched in a certain order, help the viewer connect the dots and understand what the music and concepts are trying to convey. Because KPOP is an industry that relies heavily on concepts, continuous storylines are not necessarily common, although some groups may try to tell a story within the frame of one music video or a series of music videos released for a particular album. However, Big Hit Music has, much like with their older labelmates, BTS, given TXT a rich and immersive universe that flows from album to album, spanning the eras in a way that especially showcases the group’s growth and maturity into young men.

A Brief History of TXT’s Discography

When TOMORROW X TOGETHER debuted as a group on March 4th, 2019, the members were still young boys—as the oldest, Yeonjun was still months short of twenty; and Hueningkai, the youngest, was sixteen. They began their journey with a fresh and youthful concept highlighted by bright colors and graphics, debuting with “어느 날 머리에서 뿔이 자랐다 (CROWN)” and “Blue Orangeade”, which presented a strong first impression and helped lay the foundation for their spots as leaders of fourth generation KPOP. Now, coming up on the fourth anniversary of their debut date, they have covered a variety of themes along the vein of growing up—the blissful ignorance of youth, isolation from peers, love and heartbreak—and this latest comeback presents the darker, more seductive side of leaving adolescence behind.

The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION ties back to a similar naming convention for their previous series of albums, the first of which includes their debut release The Dream Chapter: STAR (2019), The Dream Chapter: MAGIC (2019), and The Dream Chapter: ETERNITY (2020); and the second of which includes The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE (2021) and The Chaos Chapter: FIGHT OR ESCAPE (2021). minisode 2: Thursday’s Child (2022)—part of another series that also includes minisode1 : Blue Hour (2020)—laid the groundwork for a seamless transition from the sadness and heartbreak explored in The Chaos Chapter series to whatever the next release would have in store. The title track of Thursday’s Child, “Good Boy Gone Bad”, demonstrated how heartbreak can turn into the kind of anger that changes a person for the worst—into someone who they or those around them can no longer recognize—and 2023 brought to light the next sequence of events for our five Lost Boys.

Teasing The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION

With a title like The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION, there is little room to misunderstand what is about to happen next. Currently at age 23 (Yeonjun), 22 (Soobin), 21 (Beomgyu), 21 (Taehyun), and 20 (Hueningkai), TXT is entering the period of young adulthood, where there are plenty of complex emotions, interesting sensations, and new experiences to be had. In the concept trailer released for TEMPTATION prior to the EP’s drop, the visual imagery immediately reminded fans of Peter Pan, showing the five boys moving through a window into a new world. There is a narrator who makes references to Wendy, Peter, and learning how to fly; and the language used made the concept quite clear and easily established expectations for the direction of the quintet’s next release while also showcasing the group’s dancing. The concept trailer was then followed by a preview of the EP’s tracks, which further reinforced the storyline previously presented. I didn’t need to hear the songs in their full capacity to know that this was a darker, more sensual take on the classic Peter Pan tale—which I will delve into deeper later in this review.

“Sugar Rush Ride” MV

Heading the group’s promotions is the title track “Sugar Rush Ride”. Preceded by two teasers (one | two), the music video takes some of the more traditional elements of Peter Pan’s Neverland and twists them into a Garden of Eden-like setting, enhanced by psychedelic effects meant to mimic ecstasy or euphoria, or the sensations of leaving one’s body. The video begins with the five members waking up on a beach before moving onto different locations, including an open field, an enchanting yet slightly sinister forest, a gorgeous waterfall, a cave full of butterflies, and an opulent setting dressed up by a tree with multicolored foliage. They return to the beach at the end, ready to leave this magical world.

On its own, the visuals tell the story quite well: five boys arrive in Neverland, where they stay and play for a while, seduced by the fantasy it offers. Loss of innocence is an archetype typically associated with growing up; and the temptations of Neverland are too great for them to resist. Furthermore, as many fans took notice, it is the most scantily dressed that Big Hit has allowed them to be since their debut, especially for Hueningkai, who as the youngest has a history of being covered up as much as possible when the older members have been in more revealing attire. All visual aspects of this concept point to a clear maturity that hasn’t really been tapped into prior to TEMPTATION—and the members lean into it quite well.

An Analysis of The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION

The EP, consisting of five songs, flows like a story all on its own and for optimal enjoyment should be listened to in its designated order. The reason why I say that no one has really told the story of Peter Pan like this before reveals itself as soon as the first few notes of the record play—because no one has ever stopped to consider that maybe Peter Pan isn’t the hero—maybe he’s the villain.

TEMPTATION opens with “Devil by the Window”, an English track that refers to Peter Pan as not only the “devil by the window” but also “a wolf in sheep clothes”. In the most popular retelling of the story, Disney’s version, Wendy tells her younger brothers stories about Peter Pan’s adventures and heroic deeds; and getting to fly to Neverland with him is viewed as an amazing opportunity. However, “Devil by the Window” describes Peter Pan as a sinister figure in the night waiting to lure TXT away to Neverland, which is less of a paradise for children and more like an awful ride you can’t get off of. The brunt of the message is contained in the chorus: “I met the devil by the window, traded my life/Temptation touched my tongue, spread the wings of desire/He’s whispering, ‘Give up, don’t you put up a fight’/Said the devil by the window, ‘Dream on, dream on, good night”. In fact, the language of the song paints an image of Peter Pan that is quite similar to the serpent in the Garden of Eden.

The soundscape of “Devil by the Window” creates a richly seductive palette that weaves it way throughout the rest of the record. When paired with the gritty bassline and the breathiness with which the members infused their voices, the lyrics help set the scene for our Korean Lost Boys to make their journey to Neverland. The most interesting part is the end, which is rather abrupt after a tempo change that feels like floating right before a sudden drop, which might be interpreted as an indication that the flight from home to Neverland has ended.

TXT chose to perform “Devil by the Window” alongside “Sugar Rush Ride” during their promotional circuit; and the choreography helps further the storytelling aspect of TEMPTATION in a way that would leave the story slightly lacking if it were to have gone without.

There are certain expectations for title tracks in the KPOP industry and most groups choose to perform their most so-called “fun” or general public-friendly songs. “Sugar Rush Ride” is, in some ways, “Devil by the Window” repackaged as a title track with elements of pop music sprinkled on top to disguise the utter debauchery that it really is—and I really don’t mean that in a negative way. Sonically, the structure of the verses are more pop leaning, while the chorus falls back into a soundscape more similar to its predecessor. It incorporates the same kind of breathy singing, as well as some beautiful falsettos adorned throughout that add a beautiful layer of vocal color to the song. The sighs that punctuate the chorus really add to the seduction that they established in “Devil by the Window” and I am truly so obsessed with the hidden vocals, which create some amazing contrast between them and the members’ voices.

Lyrically, “Sugar Rush Ride” describes an experience of heightened sensation— hence the sugar rush, which feels like a euphemism for substance use, supported by Hueningkai’s lines “You’re so addictive/내 혈관은 (translated: my veins) full of sweets”—although sugar is also used as another name for desire. Now that TXT are in Neverland, Peter Pan is trying to convince them to stay, enticing them with whatever he is giving them to produce the sugar rush. They’re still aware that he can’t be trusted; Taehyun’s lines in the refrain, “꿈에 데려가는/침대맡에 liar”, translate to “the liar at [my] bedside who takes me into [the] dream”*, indicating that they know what he’s trying to do but they’re buying into it anyway. They also continue to refer to him as the devil; and during the post-chorus, which moves at a faster pace established in the second iteration of the chorus, there’s an acknowledgement: “You’re a bad liar/What are you doing to me (what did you do to me), sugar?”* Again, much like the story of the Garden of Eden, having previously not known desire, the Lost Boys are finding that they can’t get enough of it and the sensation is overwhelming.

The Kulture Study by Form of Therapy, my favorite KPOP reaction channel, pointed out in their review of the song that after the sugar rush comes a crash, something that I agree with. Exactly when that crash will come and what shape it will take is still yet to be seen at this point in the album—which brings us to the next track.

“Happy Fools” sits right smack dab in the middle of the EP, a brighter, more carefree song that describes wanting to stay in a state of blissful ignorance in spite of what it would mean for them if they did. Coi Leray’s verse adds a fresh-faced playfulness and an additional layer of “not a care in the world” vibes; and the members settle into their short-lived period of contentment before being forced to face the reality of their situation. You shouldn’t let the sound of the song deceive you; the title and the lyrics make it very clear that they know that they’re on borrowed time.

Tinnitus is a condition in which one may experience a ringing or buzzing noise in one or both ears, whether constantly or intermittently. With that in mind, “돌멩이가 되고 싶어 (Tinnitus (Wanna be a rock))” doesn’t carry the kind of unpleasant quality you might expect based on the title; rather, it is a soft, sensual track that takes influence from Latin beats. It’s definitely a tie with “Farewell, Neverland” for my favorite song on the EP, its dreamy instrumentals and vocal colors making it not so much a dance track as it is a song that gets your body moving. It’s short and sweet but describes both a longing for one to be more than they are and an admission that things didn’t happen the way they wanted them to. The lyrics do mention tinnitus both explicitly and implicitly, sometimes as a “deafening empty sound” or a “daze”—and more than the underlying layer of self-deprecation, it carries a more deeply rooted disillusionment. In other words, the enchantment of Neverland has been broken.

Following that train of thought, TEMPTATION ends with “Farewell, Neverland”. The Korean title is “네버랜드를 떠나며”, which translates more closely to “Leaving Neverland”*. Matching up with the title, the song contains plenty of imagery that ties it to the Peter Pan story, including the lines and words used such as “Boys don’t grow up”, “endless flying”, and “my Peter Pan”. If “Devil by the Window” and “Sugar Rush Ride” are more about Peter Pan himself, “Farewell, Neverland” is, obviously, more about Neverland. They call it a “paradise full of lies” and say that it is “no home”, indicating that whatever they came to Neverland searching for, they didn’t find it; and whatever temptation was presented, it ultimately wasn’t enough to make them stay. However, our Lost Boys speak of Neverland more fondly than they spoke of Peter Pan at the beginning of the EP, calling it “my love”. Paired with the acoustic guitar and Latin-influenced instrumentals similar to “Tinnitus”, it certainly does seem like a rather romantic goodbye, if not a little bittersweet.

Conclusion

The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION is, as TXT’s work always is, a solid album. It presents a new side of the five young men that ties in with them growing up. The KPOP industry is often unkind to older groups, placing more favor with groups that maintain a youthful image; and while TXT are by no means old, their decision to fully delve into the processing of maturing into adulthood so explicitly in their music while also embracing sensuality that very carefully toes the line of propriety is to be respected and commended. As I mentioned previously, the EP tells a story and I would not recommend listening to the songs out of order. Interestingly, it splits quite evenly, with “Devil by the Window” and “Sugar Rush Ride” forming a pair and “돌멩이가 되고 싶어 (Tinnitus)” and “ 네버랜드를 떠나며 (Farewell, Neverland)” forming another with “Happy Fools” bridging the gap between them. Now, having gotten a taste of what an older, more grown up TXT is capable of, I can’t wait to see what they show us next.

Music Monday #255: ATEEZ - Ice On My Teeth release: November 2024 genre: Kpop cw: flashing, surrealism, arson, mafia

Yeah, I'm still not fully back on track with posting things, but hey, it's ATEEZ, we knew I was going to have to feature them on here sooner or later, right? (I'll get around to their second BE:FIRST collab at some point. Probably)

I'll be honest, when they first revealed Golden Hour part 2's title track, I was both wary and confused. It's the sort of title I would expect from NCT 127 (and oh the irony there, put a pin in that) or even Stray Kids, especially in a collab with a Western pop artist (yeah, stick a pin in that, too), which this showed no signs of being. It's not entirely in line with their previous A titles, stylistically, and other than knowing it was going to be amazing (because ATEEZ's title tracks are always amazing), I really didn't know what to expect. A danceable beat was almost a given, but other than that ... what would be the sound? The story? How would it fit with the A-line lore? Would it fit with A-verse or were we going back to Z-verse already? Or some secret third thing?? So many questions, but 2024 has been the year of questions and surprises and the lore going in interesting directions, so of course Ice On My Teeth (hereafter IOMT) continues that trend.

If you're a fan of deep bass dance beats, IOMT starts off strong all right. And upon first listen, wife and I agreed this was less pirate pop and more fungus pop (yeah, that NCT pin? We're back to that now) - we reached the end of that first song and had a very "well ... that was a song all right" feeling (see also NCT 127 A-titles such as Simon Says, Ay-Yo, Sticker). A few more listens and it really started to grow on me, ridiculous chorus lyrics and all. A fun performance number with enough options for three levels of dance challenge (a trend some of us ATINY are thrilled to see after years of other groups being straight up terrified of ATEEZ choreos). Not every day you hear that level of strings in a dance pop song, but of course the fiddle is a perfect choice for a bunch of pirates! And as for the vocal tone, this was a song ATEEZ couldn't have taken on until everyone's voice had fully developed, the way it takes advantage of the lower ends of everyone's registers.

Lyrically speaking, there's an argument to be made that Golden Hour part 2, like part 1, leans in a more meta direction - IOMT, like Work before it, feels like it's speaking more to ATEEZ-the-idols than Heroteez's ongoing story. One could easily apply that same meta lens to the rest of the EP, but especially Enough. Ironically, Man on Fire, a track brought to Edenary in collaboration with an American pop production team, might be the most easily applied to the lore ... and now that I've said that, a part of me really wants to see what might have done for a Man on Fire lore-centered music video.

Speaking of the lore.... SO yeah, this video is wild and I'm still piecing my way through my own impressions. That said, it feels like the two options are a dreamscape (something we've seen before) or yet another A-cluster team. Mingi as some sort of mafia boss is entirely believable, really. The last definitive A-verse view on Hero!Mingi was Youth, reaffirming he came from a broken, abusive home. The sort of environment that can and does push desperate teens into organized crime. Time is fluid, there's nothing saying how far into that troubled teen's future this Golden Hour mansion/hotel/whatever might be.

On the other hand, the supporting cast gives most of the scenes a very surreal feel that could point to a dream world argument with ease. Ballet dancers in ski masks? Furniture strung up on piano wire? The talking busts? Yeah, none of that is reality, so why not be a dream? Work, after all, had an even more surreal dream-like feel and neither have any explicit waking up scenes, unlike the last time we had a dreamscape MV (Illusion), so why not still be dreaming?

And then there's the chess motif that's right there, impossible to ignore. And maybe too easy to apply to the final shot - our twin towers (Yunho and Mingi) as queen's side and king's side rooks (towers/castles) respectively, the Choi "brothers" San and Jongho as knights, Wooyoung and Yeosang as king and queen's bishops, and of course Hongjoong as Pirate King and Seonghwa as Pirate Queen ... it fits the lore almost too well. What does it mean? Well, we're still chewing on that ... and probably need yet more context, to be honest. Until then, I'll keep getting IOMT stuck in my head at random ... and keep crying over Enough.

The Boy Next World (Sun IQIYI) ep 3 of 10 - I’m actually quite enjoying this. I really do just wanna spend most of my time with this pair watching them kiss (please don't make Noeul act mmm'kay?). So I’m really glad we’re on episode three and the show seems invested in supplying us with kisses already. Thank goodness.  

The Heart Killers (Weds Gaga) ep 9 of 12 - mostly I just feel sorry for Fadel. boy is so tired of everybody else’s gay drama queening. 

Perfect 10 Liners (Sun YT) ep 13 of 24 - I actually like how they are portraying Yotha’s character in this (with relation to his mother). It’s pretty authentic to that kind of situation and personality type, I enjoy that. I also like that Wa dumped Klao for being too jealous. good healthy decision, should have stayed that way.

Sangmin Dinneaw (Sun iQIYI) ep 4 of 10 - it just keeps moving through absurdist and ridiculous to gratuitously sexual to mind numbingly dull. I never know where I am with this show. At least it’s not boring... until it so much is. Also my cancer danger signaling is going off hard core. Beware.

I'm like one of those dogs that can sense and epileptic fit, only for death in BL.

Flirt Milk (Sat YT) ep 1 or 10 - Star hunter is back this time with terrible facial hair. I’m putting it on the no fly list right up there with wigs. Apparently Thailand and fake hair are mutually exclusive. The lead ingenue looks a little bit like Yim, and I think they mean to give him a similar personality to Yim’s usual characters, but frankly I found him insipid, dim, and boring. Literally every other surrounding character and couple-to-be is more interesting than the mains. The linguistic bit was cute tho.

When it Rains it Pours (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 2-3 of 10 - I’m enjoying these second 2 eps a lot better than the first ep. It’s leaning into the premise and I like a quazi Cyrano de Bergerac thing. It’s got that chewy Japanese “who knows where this is going?” seasoning. But one thing we can be sure of is Japan can always veer sideways given the right pothole. Or should I say plothole? Anygay, I like the way they’re different with each other via text than in person, I like that we’ve already had some language discussion and negotiation, I like the cool banter between these men. And they are men. I like how very adult this is. I’m interested to see where it’s going. Color me suitably intrigued, in a refined manner.

Eternal Butler (Taiwan Fri Gaga) eps 7 of 12 - Ooo I love the side couple!!!! They are soooooo cute. Kissing to seal a debt? Adorable. Also, yes please keep Ever 4 shirtless forever. I applaud his design, functionality, ans aesthetic choice. Rah rah rah. More manual labor in BL! Pun intended.

Impression of Youth (Taiwan Weds Viki) eps 3 of 9 - I like the secondary couple a lot more than the primary. Shocker.

Teenager Judge (Vietnam Sat YT) ep 16 of ?? - I bit the bullet and finally watched the 2 parts. It really did not need to occupy that much of my time. I did watch it on 1.5, which is not normally what I do with foreign language shows, but I’ve lost patience with this damn thing. I didn’t actually mind the student teacher side pairing, I didn’t like it either. I thought this was the final episode, and then I saw that there was an 2 part ep 17 announced. So i guess not. Have mercy.
