caught up on the episodes and my two cents on bobby’s death is that (if they had to do it, and if they had to make it this “noble sacrifice”) i think it would have been more meaningful if they’d been dealing with a major fire. like how poetic would it have been if his story ended saving his 118 family from a fire after being unable to save his first family from the fire he caused. maybe it seems basic, but on a firefighting show that doesn’t do a whole lot of firefighting, i think going back to the basics—back to the roots of the show, back to Bobby’s roots of what drove him to LA in the first place—would have been perfect

I just wanted to ask your opinion on how Malenia and Miquella (from FoR and your characterization of them specifically) would view Millicent. How do you think they'd interact with her? Would they avoid her? What would that mean for their own relationship? Etc etc.

I'm so sorry this is so long but as I'm sure you can imagine, I have Many Thoughts about Malenia lol.

I've actually thought quite a lot about Millicent and her sisters and I think, first and foremost, that she doesn't know about them at all. I think after her bloom and being carried back to the roots of the Haligtree that she's basically been in a pseudo-coma as the rot progresses now that she's needle-less, so she might know about the kindred of rot but not Millicent or her sisters.

With Malenia, I really focus on her lack of autonomy as a character throughout the most formative years of her life and the trauma that undoubtedly came with it, where she is burdened with the rot which would have effectively ostracized her from most people except Miquella (because of his immunity to the rot). This is also in addition to her being named as an Empyrean and already having her fate decided for her. So the nature by which Millicent and her sisters came to be, after her bloom and presumably like offshoots or cuttings from plants, they'd be another blow against her autonomy because she didn't have a say in their creation (implied by Gowry raising them and her rejection of the kindred of rot).

Specifically with Millicent, I imagine Malenia would see a lot of herself in her, and I think she would harbor a deep resentment because of that - not because she'd dislike Millicent, but because Millicent would be a reflection of her younger self. Someone who is spawned from her, consequently cursed BY her, to suffer the same hardships. Millicent is the same as younger Malenia, which consequently forces Malenia into the role of the Outer Rot God in their dynamic - unwittingly having taken on the role of the thing she hates. If Malenia had embraced the rot like Romina, I think it would be different, but every time she accepts it, it's when she's at the end of her rope with no choices left and she's essentially resigned herself to death.

This might sound harsh, but it's also why I love her as a character - I believe Malenia is ultimately deeply selfish in her actions where Miquella is concerned (and vice versa ignoring all the DLC). She's sworn herself to his cause, has proven herself willing to die for him, to go to war for him, to commit countless atrocities in his name and inflict the very thing she despises - the curse that has caused her so much misery - on countless others. For him. But! In a twisted way, it's also for herself! Because for once, this is HER choice. She decided to take on the title of his blade and devote herself to him. No matter the ask, no matter the cost.

Miquella, who knows Malenia better than anyone and has been by her side throughout the worst of it, knows all of this. I believe he would be sympathetic to Millicent and her sisters (also seeing a younger Malenia in them) but I suspect that while he would also try to help them in secret, he'd be (selfishly) keeping them away from Malenia so that she wouldn't have to deal with all the trauma I mentioned above. He might feel some guilt about it, but with how I write him in FoR, he's always willing to harbor some secrets if he believes it's in Malenia's best interest. He wants to save her, to give her back the life she's been denied - a life free of her rot and any burdens. And that would mean a life without five magically spawned new dependents whose existence would be inflicting constant psychic damage on Malenia and that she'd feel responsible for.

In a timeline where the twins are far less codependent, and where they're not both so focused on Miquella's ambitions to cure Malenia of her rot and revolutionize the world, maybe Malenia is able to take the time to heal and make peace with herself. In that timeline, maybe Millicent would serve to be a positive and healing influence on her.

It's also extra infuriating if you know shit about computers. Like, my 80-year old grandpa doesn't even know how frustrating it is his email program went from 'click button > process process process > display six line of html' to 'click button > computer with 100000 times the computing power of the machine we used to put people with on the moon fails to display six lines of html and a widdle .jpg > computer with 100000 times the computing power of the machine we used to put people with on the moon fails to inform him it failed at this basic task'. doom 2005 is actually a good movie. its plot is solid enough that anyone could watch and follow what going on, the characters are introduced in a way that lets you get a good understanding of what theyre like, its got fun action scenes and is over all an enjoyable movie to sit down and watch. i think it just suffers from not being a “doom” movie. its a resident evil movie calling itself doom

personally i think analogue horror would benefit a lot from Not doing that trope in first-person POV footage where the second The Scary jumps the person, the camera cuts. i get it's another jumpscare mechanism, but i think it would be much scarier for a tape to just...keep going after the camera's been dropped, y'know? really force the audience to sit with the death that they're hearing happen. maybe this is too much of a Film Bro take but how unsettling would it be for one of these projects to have a 45 minute long video where all the action happens in the first 10-20 minutes, and then youre just left sitting helplessly in silence, staring at a ceiling or a wall or whatever, knowing whoever was filming is Very Much Dead?

ive been gettin into touhou recently and honestly one of the most baffling things about this entire franchise to me (so far) is the fact that there is RANSOMEWARE based on the franchise, where in order to get your files back, you have to play touhou 12 on the hardest difficulty until you reach about 200 MILLION POINTS... and honestly i cant tell if thats hilarious or terrifying

Just like the US has NyQuil and Sprite for treating respiratory infections, here in Finland we have one folk remedy specifically for treating stomach viruses: an orange-flavored soda named Jaffa (which rules imo, like Fanta sucks ass compared to it). Now obviously drinking a lot of a carbonated sugary drink won't make the virus go away faster, but there is a logic to it: if you have a gastrointestinal illness that manifests as diarrhoea you end up losing a lot of fluid, so the Jaffa is good for getting a bit of fluid in you while also giving you some sugar cause you need that fuel.

Also for some reason it's specifically gotta be the red Jaffa. Not sure about the why of that part.

Why I see Reigen as asexual

This is a very self-indulgent post, but it's his birthday today and I wanted to compile all the things about Reigen that make me see him as a fellow ace.

Please don't take this list too seriously! None of these are This Is Canon signs and some of them are just jokes. Also, it's pretty hard to find evidence of asexuality barring a character explicitly saying "hey i never feel sexual attraction" so bear with ne here.

1. That Scene With Dimple

Yeah, we all know the scene.

"But does love always have to come with sexual desires?" -Reigen Arataka

This is what almost asexual person asks at some point. It's just such an asexual quote. Society often conflates the two things as inherently hand-in-hand, but that's not true for everyone!

2. He never shows attraction to anyone

Now of course, the story is not primarily focused on him, and he's usually with Mob so he probably wouldn't be flirting in front of him. But there aren't even MOMENTS of him showing a smidge of attraction to other people, even when we see his life without Mob's presence. It really stands out in comparison to other goofy mentor figures in manga/anime who are commonly portrayed as hopeless flirts.

3. He's never been in a relationship before

When asked about his past romantic experiences in the official fanbook, he pretends he's had plenty of passionate romances and then describes a scene from Titanic before saying "Marriage is one of the countless types of lifestyles you can choose. It's best if everyone does whatever they want." So basically, despite being 29 years old at the time of the fanbook, he has had no significant romantic experiences and doesn't see himself getting married. (Even if he might be interested, as I'll explain in the next point.)

This is not exclusive to asexuality of course but it's a very common sentiment for ace people imo

4. He doesn't think he can be in a relationship

In Confession Arc, he has no idea how to ask someone out and has to cheat while giving advice to Mob. He also tells Serizawa afterward that if anyone saw him for who he really was, they'd turn him down right away.

But then, at least in the manga, he says that he hopes he can be in a relationship where he and his partner "can exist without distorting each other". So I think he does want to be in a relationship, he's just way too insecure about himself for many, many reasons.

I like to think one of these reasons is because he is asexual. It's a struggle for allo aces to find someone whose sexual preferences are compatible with ours, and yet it remains important to maintain our boundaries (aka not distort ourselves).

5. His anime outfit has ace flag colors

I mean. Gray, white, pink purple...

6. His reaction to a porn virus

Look at the face of this poor asexual man who spent an entire night trying and failing to get rid of a porn virus...
