Affordable Immigration Lawyers in Atlanta, GA: Accessible Legal Representation for Immigrants
The process of navigating U.S. immigration law can be daunting and expensive, especially for individuals and families seeking to establish their lives in the United States. In a city like Atlanta, Georgia, where a large and growing immigrant population relies on legal support to pursue their immigration goals, access to affordable representation becomes a critical issue. Immigration lawyers in Atlanta are increasingly recognizing the need to offer cost-effective services to ensure that all individuals, regardless of their financial situation, can receive the legal assistance they need to successfully navigate complex immigration processes. This article explores the importance of affordable immigration legal representation in Atlanta and how individuals can find accessible legal support.
Tumblr media
The Cost of Immigration Legal Representation
Immigration law is often difficult to navigate, with intricate requirements for visas, work permits, family reunification, asylum claims, and more. Hiring an immigration lawyer can provide significant benefits, as attorneys bring expertise and experience to help clients avoid costly mistakes and ensure their applications are processed efficiently. However, for many immigrants, especially those who are newly arrived or working in low-wage sectors, the cost of legal services can be a major barrier.
In some cases, legal fees can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars, depending on the complexity of the case. This price tag may seem prohibitive to individuals who are already struggling to meet basic living expenses or those without stable employment. The lack of affordable legal representation can leave immigrants vulnerable, as they may attempt to navigate the system on their own or rely on unreliable, often predatory, services.
Why Affordable Legal Representation Matters
Affordable immigration lawyers in Atlanta help bridge the gap for individuals who might otherwise be unable to afford representation. Without legal support, individuals may make mistakes in their immigration filings, which can lead to delays, denials, or even deportation. In addition to representing clients in their immigration applications, lawyers also assist with deportation defense, asylum claims, work visas, green cards, and citizenship applications. Having a lawyer ensures that the correct forms are completed, all required documents are submitted, and deadlines are met.
For low-income immigrants, affordable legal representation can be the difference between securing a visa or permanent residency and facing a lengthy legal battle or deportation. Immigration attorneys who offer reasonable rates give their clients the best chance of success while providing peace of mind throughout the process.
Finding Affordable Immigration Lawyers in Atlanta
Atlanta is home to many immigration attorneys who offer affordable legal services to those in need. When searching for affordable representation, individuals should consider a few key factors:
Sliding Scale Fees: Some immigration lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income. This allows clients to pay for services according to their financial situation. Sliding scale options are an excellent resource for low-income individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford legal representation.
Pro Bono and Low-Cost Services: Many non-profit organizations and law firms in Atlanta provide pro bono (free) or low-cost immigration legal services to underserved communities. These services are typically offered to individuals who meet specific income qualifications or face particularly challenging situations, such as asylum seekers or victims of abuse.
Legal Aid Organizations: There are several legal aid organizations in Atlanta, such as the Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network (GAIN) and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), that provide resources or referrals to affordable immigration lawyers. These organizations often partner with attorneys who are willing to offer discounted rates or provide free consultations.
Free Consultations: Many immigration lawyers in Atlanta offer free initial consultations to evaluate a client's case. During this consultation, individuals can get an understanding of the attorney's approach and pricing structure. It's an opportunity to ask questions, discuss the details of the case, and determine whether the lawyer's services are a good fit for the individual’s needs and budget.
Payment Plans: Some attorneys offer flexible payment plans, allowing clients to pay their legal fees in installments. This option can ease the financial burden, making legal services more manageable over time.
Benefits of Affordable Representation
Affordable legal representation ensures that more immigrants have access to the resources they need to navigate the U.S. immigration system effectively. In a city like Atlanta, which is home to diverse immigrant communities, the availability of reasonably priced legal services fosters inclusion and helps immigrants build a secure future. Legal representation can also offer:
Expert guidance through the complicated immigration process.
Protection from scams and fraudulent legal services.
Increased chances of success in securing visas, permanent residency, or citizenship.
Support in difficult situations, such as deportation defense or asylum applications.
Conclusion
Affordable immigration lawyers in Atlanta are a crucial resource for immigrants seeking to establish their lives in the United States. As the immigration process can be overwhelming and costly, finding accessible legal representation ensures that individuals are not left to navigate this complex system alone. By offering sliding scale fees, pro bono services, and flexible payment options, immigration lawyers in Atlanta are helping ensure that legal services are within reach for everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Access to affordable legal representation helps immigrants achieve their goals, contributing to the city’s diversity and economic vitality while ensuring that families can remain together and thrive.

Understanding Civil Unions in Atlanta, GA: A Guide from a Family Lawyer
A civil union is a legal relationship granted by a state that provides couples—whether same-sex or opposite-sex—many of the same legal benefits and protections as marriage. While the term "civil union" has become less common in many places following the legalization of same-sex marriage across the United States in 2015, it remains an important concept in certain legal contexts, including in Georgia. For couples considering entering into a civil union or navigating its dissolution, understanding the legal implications and protections is crucial. An experienced family lawyer in Atlanta can guide you through the intricacies of civil unions, ensuring your rights and interests are fully protected.
Tumblr media
What is a Civil Union?
A civil union is a legally recognized relationship between two individuals that grants them certain rights, responsibilities, and legal protections similar to those of married couples. While civil unions were initially established to offer legal recognition to same-sex couples prior to the nationwide legalization of same-sex marriage, some states, including Georgia, still recognize civil unions for both same-sex and opposite-sex couples.
In a civil union, the couple may have the right to make medical decisions for each other, inherit property, file joint tax returns, and receive healthcare benefits, among other legal rights. However, civil unions do not provide all the legal benefits associated with marriage, particularly in federal matters such as social security benefits, immigration status, or tax filing at the federal level. In Georgia, while civil unions may not be as widely practiced as marriage, they are still recognized in some legal contexts, particularly in relation to state-specific benefits and protections.
The Difference Between Civil Unions and Marriage
The main difference between civil unions and marriage lies in their recognition. While marriage is recognized both at the state and federal levels, civil unions were initially created as a way to offer legal recognition at the state level for couples who could not marry. This distinction was particularly important for same-sex couples before the legalization of same-sex marriage in all 50 states.
However, civil unions are typically limited to state-level recognition and benefits. While same-sex marriage was legalized by the Supreme Court in 2015 through the Obergefell v. Hodges decision, some states, including Georgia, still allow civil unions to exist for couples seeking legal recognition of their relationship. In Georgia, a couple may choose to enter a civil union for specific reasons, even though marriage remains the more widely recognized option.
Legal Rights and Protections in a Civil Union
Couples in a civil union in Georgia can enjoy many of the same rights as married couples, including:
Property and Financial Rights: Civil union couples may have the right to inherit property from each other, jointly own property, and make financial decisions together. They can also benefit from protections related to the division of property if the union ends.
Healthcare and Medical Decisions: A civil union partner often has the right to make medical decisions for the other partner in case of incapacitation and can be listed as a beneficiary on healthcare plans.
Tax and Financial Benefits: While civil union couples do not receive the same federal tax benefits as married couples, they may receive state tax advantages and other state-based benefits that could impact their finances.
Spousal Support: If the civil union dissolves, the couple may be entitled to spousal support (alimony), similar to what married couples receive in divorce cases. Courts may determine alimony based on factors like the length of the union and the financial needs of the partners.
Ending a Civil Union in Georgia
Just as marriages can end through divorce, civil unions can also be dissolved. However, the process may differ slightly due to the nature of the legal recognition. To dissolve a civil union, the couple will need to file for dissolution in a Georgia court. This process is similar to divorce in many ways, as it involves the division of assets and potentially determining spousal support. If children are involved, custody and child support may also be part of the proceedings.
A family lawyer in Atlanta can help navigate the legal process of dissolution, ensuring that both parties are treated fairly and that all legal obligations are met. The lawyer can also help with negotiations over property division and financial arrangements.
Why Work with an Atlanta Family Lawyer?
If you are in a civil union and are considering legal options such as dissolution, estate planning, or seeking recognition for your relationship, consulting with an experienced family lawyer in Atlanta can help ensure your rights are protected. A family lawyer can provide valuable assistance in the following ways:
Understanding Your Legal Rights: A family lawyer can help you understand the rights and responsibilities associated with your civil union, including how they relate to property, healthcare, and finances.
Dissolution of Civil Unions: If you are looking to end your civil union, a family lawyer can guide you through the dissolution process, which includes addressing property division, alimony, and potentially custody arrangements.
Drafting Legal Documents: A lawyer can help you draft essential documents such as wills, healthcare proxies, and power of attorney documents to ensure that your partner is legally recognized and protected in the event of illness or death.
Mediation and Dispute Resolution: If disagreements arise in a civil union, a family lawyer can assist with mediation or negotiation to reach a fair settlement without the need for prolonged litigation.
Ensuring Fair Treatment: A lawyer will advocate for your best interests, helping you navigate the complexities of family law and ensuring that any legal agreements or disputes are handled fairly and in accordance with Georgia law.
Conclusion
While the term "civil union" is less commonly used today, it remains an important legal concept in some jurisdictions, including Georgia. For couples who enter into a civil union, understanding the rights, responsibilities, and potential complications is essential. Whether you are entering a civil union, seeking to dissolve one, or needing assistance with related legal matters, an experienced family lawyer in Atlanta can help you navigate the process and ensure your rights are protected. If you have questions about civil unions or need legal assistance with a family law issue, consulting with a knowledgeable attorney can provide the clarity and guidance you need.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
September 24, 2021
Heather Cox Richardson
On Monday, we learned that after last year’s election, John Eastman, a well-connected lawyer advising former president Donald Trump, outlined a six-point plan to overturn the outcome of the election and install Trump as America’s leader. They planned to cut the voters’ actual choice, Democrat Joe Biden, out of power: as Trump advisor Steve Bannon put it, they planned to “kill the Biden presidency in the crib.” This appears to have been the plan that Trump and his loyalists tried to execute on January 6.
That is, we now have written proof of an attempt to destroy our democracy and replace it with an autocracy.
This was not some crazy plot of some obscure dude in a shack in the mountains; this was a plan of the president of the United States of America, and it came perilously close to succeeding. The president of the United States tried to overturn the results of an election—the centerpiece of our democracy—and install himself into power illegitimately.
If this is not a hair-on-fire, screaming emergency, what is?
And yet, Republican lawmakers, with the notable exceptions of Representatives Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), have largely remained silent about the fact that the head of their party tried to destroy our democracy.
The best spin on their silence is that in refusing to defend the former president while also keeping quiet enough that they do not antagonize the voters in his base, they are choosing their own power over the protection of our country.
The other option is that the leaders of the Republican Party have embraced authoritarianism, and their once-grand party—the party of Abraham Lincoln, the party that saved the United States in the 1860s, the party that removed racial enslavement from our fundamental law—has become an existential threat to our nation.
Democracy requires at least two healthy parties capable of running a government in order to provide oversight for those currently in control of the government and to channel opposition into peaceful attempts to change the country’s path rather than into revolution. But Republicans appear to believe that any Democratic government is illegitimate, insisting that Democrats’ calls for business regulation, a basic social safety net, and infrastructure investment are “socialism” that will destroy the country.
With Democrats in charge of the federal government, Republicans are cementing their power in the states to support a future coup like the one Eastman described. Using “audits” of the 2020 elections, notably in Arizona but now also in Pennsylvania and Texas, Trump loyalists have convinced their supporters to distrust elections, softening the ground to overturn them in the future. According to a new poll by NORC at the University of Chicago, 26% of Americans now believe that “[t]he 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump and Joe Biden is an illegitimate president,” and 8% believe that "[u]se of force is justified to restore Donald Trump to the presidency."
Arguing that they have to stop the voter fraud they have falsely claimed threw the election to Biden, Republican lawmakers in 18 states have passed more than 30 laws to cut down Democratic voting and cement their own rule. Trump supporters have threatened election workers, prompting them to quit, and have harassed school board members and local officials, driving them from office.
Although attorneys general are charged with nonpartisan enforcement of the law, we learned earlier this month that in September 2020, 32 staff members of Republican attorneys general met in Atlanta, where they participated in “war games” to figure out what to do should Trump not be reelected. The summit was organized by the Rule of Law Defense Fund, the fundraising arm of the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA), which sent out robocalls on January 5 urging recipients to march to the Capitol the following day “to stop the steal.” In May, RAGA elevated the man responsible for those robocalls to the position of executive director, prompting others to leave.
In states where Republicans have rigged election mechanics, party members need to worry about primary challengers from the right, rather than Democratic opponents. So they are purging from the party all but Trump loyalists, especially as the former president is backing challengers against those who voted in favor of his impeachment in the House in January 2021. Last week, one of those people, Representative Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH), announced he was retiring, in part because of right-wing threats against his family.
Trump loyalists are openly embracing the language of authoritarianism. In Texas, Abbott is now facing a primary challenger who today tweeted: “Texans deserve a strong and robust leader committed to fighting with them against the radical Left. They deserve a leader like Brazil has in Jair Bolsonaro…..” Bolsonaro, a right-wing leader whose approval rating in late August was 23%, is threatening to stay in power in Brazil against the wishes of its people. He claims that the country’s elections are fraudulent and that “[e]ither we’ll have clean elections, or we won’t have elections.”
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) today used language fascists have used in the past to stoke hatred of their political opponents, tweeting that “ALL House Democrats are evil and will kill unborn babies all the way up to birth and then celebrate.” Yesterday, the leader of Turning Points U.S.A., Charlie Kirk, brought the movement’s white nationalism into the open when he told a YouTube audience that Democrats were backing “an invasion of the country” to bring in “voters that they want and that they like” and to work toward “diminishing and decreasing white demographics in America.” He called for listeners to “[d]eputize a citizen force, put them on the border, give them handcuffs, get it done.”
Today, we learned that the 2022 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) will be held in Budapest, Hungary, where leader Viktor Orbán, whom Fox News Channel personality Tucker Carlson has openly admired, is dismantling democracy and eroding civil rights. When former vice president Mike Pence spoke in Budapest earlier this week at a forum denouncing immigration and urging traditional social values, he told the audience he hoped that the U.S. Supreme Court would soon outlaw abortion thanks to the three justices Trump put on the court.
Establishment Republicans who are now out of power are not on board the Trump train. They are quietly backing anti-Trumpers like Representative Cheney. Former House speakers John Boehner and Paul Ryan, former Florida governor Jeb Bush—who was widely expected to win the Republican nomination in 2016, only to be shut out of it by Trump—and former president George W. Bush's former adviser Karl Rove have all donated money to Cheney to help her stave off a challenge from a Trump loyalist in the 2022 election. Next month, former president Bush himself will hold a fundraiser for Cheney in Texas.
Other establishment Republicans currently in power might be staying quiet about the party’s slide toward authoritarianism because they are simply hoping that the Trump fire will burn itself out. The former president is no longer commanding the crowds he once did, and his increasing legal woes as well as the investigation into the insurrection will almost certainly take up his time and energy. The mounting coronavirus deaths among his unvaccinated supporters also stand to weaken support for his faction.
But the fact that Republican lawmakers have ignored the Eastman memo, which outlines the destruction of our democracy, suggests that the party, which organized in the 1850s to protect the nation against those who would destroy it, has come full circle.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN

Mobiguy
It is time to call this out as what it is - a well-documented attempt to overthrow the government, led by people too unconcerned or too stupid to worry about leaving a paper trail.
The January 6th sheep currently in court are not the problem. It's time to round up the ringleaders of this attempted coup and prosecute them on an open and shut case of treason.
Reasonable people insist on framing this coup as a robust political debate, but reasonable people are wrong. It is a naked power grab, an assault on the popular will, and blatantly illegal. Three evidence is there, in the seditionists' own hands.
A crime has been committed, even if it was unsuccessful. Failed bank robbers don't get to walk because they got no money. Failed murderers are still prosecuted. The evidence is there for all to see, and the alleged criminals aren't denying it. They're doubling down, and we're letting them. Either prosecute them, or remove the treason laws from the books since they're clearly meaningless and unenforceable.
In short: lock them up.

Federal Criminal Law Variations vs. State Criminal
Tumblr media
Prosecution occurs at both the federal and the state levels and so a federal violation is one that is prosecuted under federal criminal law rather than under state criminal law under which the majority of the crimes committed in America are prosecuted. Federal offenses normally involve federal government agencies such as the United States Drug Enforcement Agency, FBI, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the DHS, the Internal Revenue Service, the Border Patrol, Secret Service, or even possibly the Postal Service. There is a network of twelve circuits in the Federal court system, distributed throughout the United States. Each circuit has a central location along with a number of smaller district courts located in cities nearby. U.S. Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Circuit (Washington, DC) U.S. District Court, D.C.- Washington, DC U.S. Court of Appeals, 1st Circuit (Boston, MA) Example: U.S. District Court, District of Puerto Rico- Hato Rey, PR U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit (New York, NY) Example: U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York- Brooklyn, NY U.S. Court of Appeals, 3rd Circuit (Philadelphia, PA) Example: U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey- Newark, NJ U.S. Court of Appeals, 4th Circuit (Richmond, Virginia) Example: U.S. District Court, Western District of North Carolina- Charlotte, NC U.S. Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit (New Orleans, Louisiana) Example: U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas- Houston, TX U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit (Cincinnati, OH) Example: U.S. District Court, Western District of Tennessee- Memphis, TN U.S. Court of Appeals, 7th Circuit (Chicago, IL) Example: U.S. District Court, Northern District of Indiana- South Bend, IN U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit (St. Louis, Missouri) Example: U.S. District Court, Southern District of Iowa- Des Moines, IA U.S. Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit (San Francisco, CA) Example: U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California- Sacramento, CA U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit (Denver, CO) Example: U.S. District Court, Northern District of Oklahoma- Tulsa, OK U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit (Atlanta, Georgia) Example: U.S. District Court, Middle District of Georgia- Macon, GA Average Federal crimes can contain: Drug distribution Crimes affiliated immigration to the U.S. Crimes that include weapons charges Gang activities White-collar offense Electronic crime and fraud Factors to Engage a Federal Criminal Defense Attorney The federal criminal justice process is not meant for individuals to represent themselves. In case you are detained, you want a lawyer to stand up to your rights, fight back against overzealous police officers, and obtain the very best result possible. Speak to a qualified federal criminal law firm in your area to learn more about what you’re up against. Many federal law firms, like Carver, Cantin & Mynarich in Missouri provide a free initial consultation, where they will walk you through the details of your federal charges, explaining possible outcomes and outline a strategy they might pursue.   This is 1 reason for a lawyer. You do not need to wander aimlessly at any stage during the legal system without a manual. Getting lost in a jumble of legislation and questionable convictions aren't just scary but can put the remainder of your life in peril. The viability of your life ought never to be a bargaining utility when you are facing time in court. The state court and federal court have been two entirely different strategies -- with different courthouses and judges. Federal judges will preside over national criminal situations, while elected state court judges preside over state criminal circumstances. Assistant U.S. Attorneys litigate federal situations, whilst country district attorneys and city attorneys insure state crimes. Criminal defense attorneys are the best investment to make regarding case identification. Not merely do they know the intricacies of the legal system, however they can look at your situation with unbiased and fresh eyes. They also spend their lives working to defend you and your nearest and dearest from regulations that are unnecessary. It's their passion to keep others from an outcome too harsh for the crime. An experienced lawyer isn't only able to assist you with your situation, but in addition, utilizes their trained intellect to find issues with the prosecution. Just because someone was arrested on suspicion for a crime does not imply that the presumed victims aren't to blame in some manner as well. Every case differs, and tiny details can serve to sufficiently swerve a court ruling. Nobody would like to be given much more of a punishment that is representative of the crime. Often, the area is greeted with a personal sense of shame and guilt, instead of having an enthusiastic and greedy attitude. So then, the question would be : why do so many people put off finding a criminal defense attorney? Without a lawyer that understands a situation, how then can anybody keep from unnecessary charges? Having a large number of individuals arrested yearly for a whole slew of criminal offenses, it becomes simple to bulge into a single group: guilty. This isn't accurate a sizable quantity of the moment. The media and common culture like to consider from the stunning, and so it will become hard to slough off the word when in the courtroom. A defense attorney understands the difficulty society induces and thinks on your innocence. Individuals commonly misinterpret the thought that they should hire an attorney only after they have been arrested or charged with a violation. This, however, is entirely a farce. Without an attorney present during police interrogations, then there's absolutely not any counselor there to help you from admitting to a crime you did not commit or from saying anything which could serve as a detriment for your own defense. Regardless of what crime you've been charged with, it is essential to procure legal representation that is knowledgeable and experienced in navigating the criminal justice strategy. This is of special importance if you've been charged with a federal crime because the terms for national fees are so stringent. Some Cases Tried by a Federal Criminal Defense Law Firms might be: Sexual Assault Attempted Killing and Conspiracy to Enact Murder Bank Fraud Liquidation Fraud Bribery Conspiracy Embezzlement Extortion Extortionate Extensions and Collections of Credit Federal Bank Robbery Firearms Charges Use or Carrying Firearms Relation to a Crime of Violence or Drug Selling Offense Confiscation Proceedings Forgery Harboring a Fugitive Health Care Theft Hobbs Act Extortion, Stealing and Public Corruption Kidnapping Loansharking Postal Fraud and Digital Making Untrue Statements Misprision of a Felony Mortgage Fraud Money Laundering Narcotics Charges Obstruction of Justice Perjury Public Corruption RICO Financial Fraud Sexual Abuse of Children Stalking Tax Cheating Theft of Government Assets Unlawful Hiring of Aliens What are the Penalties for federal charges? Another significant gap between federal crimes vs. country crimes is the essential sentence. Federal justices have been instructed by the federal sentencing guidelines when giving a sentence. Mandatory minimum prison penalties that national sentences tend to be much more lengthy than nation paragraphs. Even when their offenses are alike, a person being stranded for a federal crime will typically face a much more unpleasant punishment than somebody who has been convicted of a state crime. There is a large system of federal prisons throughout the   You may reside at any of them depending on a number of factors. If you have psychological or physical medical issues, you will most likely go to a Federal Medical Center like the one in Springfield, MO. MCFP is a common name for the U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners. The centers where phrases are completed differ, as well. Individuals sentenced to do time to get a federal crime is going to be delivered to federal prison, although people who serve time for a state crime is going to probably be sent to state prison. Federal prisons tend to home more non-violent offenders (such as individuals convicted of same-sex offenses ), whilst local prisons home mostly populations of people convicted of violent crimes.

Trump and Biden blitz key battleground states as campaign nears finish

Trump and Biden blitz key battleground states as campaign nears finish
With time running out and his prospects dwindling, President Trump stepped up efforts Sunday to undermine an election he stands in grave peril of losing.
Speaking to supporters in Dubuque, Iowa — part of a five-state tour of campaign battlegrounds — Trump again raised his baseless assertion that the race should be called on election night, which would mean not counting tens of millions of legitimate votes.
“We should know the result of the election on Nov. 3. The evening of Nov. 3,” he said. “That’s the way it’s been, and that’s the way it should be. What’s going on in this country? What’s going on?”
What has gone on is an unprecedented rush to vote early, as Americans seek to avoid crowds on election day amid a deadly pandemic and ensure their ballots arrive in time after the U.S. Postal Service took steps that raised doubts about its ability to do so. The head of the Postal Service, Louis DeJoy, has been a major donor to Trump and the Republican Party.
Even without a pandemic, U.S. elections have often not been resolved on election day.
As of Sunday, more than 93 million Americans had cast early ballots, with Democrats holding a significant edge. Republicans hope to make up the difference, and then some, with a strong showing Tuesday.
That is where Trump appears to see his best hope.
In two potentially decisive states — Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — officials can’t begin processing early ballots until election day. Because of that, Trump could be ahead in the initial count Tuesday night in those states, even if more votes have been cast for Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
Trump and his associates suggested that the practice of counting every vote was an underhanded plot.
“If you speak with many smart Democrats, they believe that President Trump will be ahead on election night … and then they’re going to try to steal it back after the election,” Jason Miller, a Trump campaign aide, said on ABC.
The president signaled his intention to rush to court as soon as the polls close. “We’re going in with our lawyers,” he told reporters ahead of an evening rally in North Carolina.
In fact, it is standard practice in many states, and perfectly legal, for ballots that are cast early or postmarked on election day to be counted after polls close.
Trump, however, sees it differently, complaining at a rally in Rome, Ga., about voters mailing in their ballots so close to election day. “Let them put their ballots in early,” he said. “They don’t have to wait until the end.”
Campaigning in Philadelphia, a scornful Biden accused Trump of purposely trying to suppress turnout and undermining the country’s fundamental values.
“I don’t care how hard Donald Trump tries, there’s nothing to stop this nation from voting,” Biden said at a faith-based get-out-the-vote rally. “The only thing that can tear us apart is America itself, and that’s what Trump is trying to do.”
In remarks that combined inspirational rhetoric with a scathing dismissal of Trump’s record on a range of issues — the COVID-19 pandemic, racial injustice, the slumping economy — Biden described Pennsylvania and its 20 electoral votes as vital to the election.
“If you have your say, he doesn’t stand a chance,” the Scranton, Pa., native told socially distanced supporters in the parking lot of a landmark Baptist church. They replied with a raucous chorus of car honks.
Later, at a drive-in rally at Philadelphia’s Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park, Biden tore into Trump for avoiding taxes, denigrating military service and undermining long-standing institutions. Pointing to the city’s historical role in the birthing of America, the former vice president said he never believed democracy “would be this much in jeopardy.”
“He’s the virus!” Biden said of Trump.
“It’s time to stand up,” he said in a passionate summation. “Take back our democracy.”
The clash over balloting came as Trump and Biden began a final blitz of battleground states Sunday, trading accusations and scouring for the rare voter who might still be swayed, with 48 hours left in the caustic campaign.
A new batch of polls suggested that for all the year’s volatility — pandemic, protests, economic hardship — the presidential contest remains remarkably stable, with Biden continuing to hold a significant advantage in nationwide surveys and a smaller but durable edge over Trump in most battleground states.
Trailing in fundraising as well as opinion surveys, the president had the more aggressive itinerary, hopscotching from Michigan, Iowa, North Carolina and Georgia to Florida.
Trump’s speeches — a melange of boasts, sarcastic riffs and ad-libbed asides — were lightly tailored for each state.
In Michigan, he began with a misleading pitch geared to the state’s vital auto industry, blaming job losses on the Obama administration, even though statewide unemployment fell during Obama’s presidency, and car factories continued to close after Trump was elected.
“You didn’t have any auto plants four years ago,” he said. (In fact, the first auto manufacturing plant opened in Detroit in 1899.)
Speaking outside Detroit, amid rain and temperatures in the 30s, Trump spoke only passingly about the worsening pandemic, promising that a vaccine was “coming in a matter of weeks” and slamming Democratic governors for shutting down businesses to fight the spread of the coronavirus. At one point, he suggested that social distancing and other public health measures had been promoted in vain.
“The whole world has gone through a lot. And for what?” he said.
Supporters shivering in the cold laughed as he mocked Biden’s small, socially distanced crowds — intended as safety measures against the coronavirus — and called the former vice president “a dummy and a half.”
The crowd took up a familiar cry from 2016, repurposed for the current campaign. “Lock him up!” they chanted.
The FBI, meanwhile, announced that it was investigating an incident Friday in which a caravan of Trump supporters on a Texas freeway swarmed a Biden bus, prompting the cancellation of several campaign stops.
Trump, who approvingly shared a video of the incident, tweeted, “In my opinion, these patriots did nothing wrong. Instead, the FBI & Justice should be investigating the terrorists, anarchists, and agitators of ANTIFA, who run around burning down our Democrat run cities and hurting our people!”
For his part, Biden made a series of stops across Pennsylvania, which has emerged as a pivot point in the race. Polls of the state give the former vice president a steady but not overwhelming lead.
Trump’s narrow Pennsylvania win four years ago, combined with upsets in Michigan and Wisconsin, put him in the White House despite losing the popular vote to Hillary Clinton.
Even before Biden’s scheduled rally in Philadelphia, campaign animosity followed him to Sunday worship. In his hometown of Wilmington, Del., a group of protesters heckled Biden as he entered the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church, a sign of the antagonism of this election season.
While Biden worked to nail down Pennsylvania, his running mate, California Sen. Kamala Harris, reached deep into Republican territory, stumping in Atlanta before heading to North Carolina. Vice President Mike Pence also campaigned in North Carolina, one of the closest-fought states in the past several presidential campaigns.
Speaking briefly with reporters, Harris — the daughter of immigrants from Jamaica and India — was asked whether Democrats were doing enough to appeal to Black voters, a bedrock of the party.
“First of all, we’re not telling anybody they’re supposed to vote for us,” Harris said. “We have to earn the vote of every person.”
Later, addressing a crowd of several hundred lining the parking lot of a Gwinnett County arena, she summoned the memory of the late civil rights hero and Georgia Rep. John Lewis.
“You know the thing about John … he was an extraordinary human being,” Harris said. “He knew the fight for voting rights is an extension of the fight for civil rights.”
“We will not be deterred,” she added. “We will not be sidelined. We will not be silenced.”
Stokols and King reported from Washington and Barabak from San Francisco. Staff writer Chris Megerian in Washington contributed to this report.

Georgia’s Inexperienced Immigration Board Struggling
The state of Georgia includes a country immigration board, in nearly a period of 10 years of life, has served two individuals.
The narrative begins in 2010, when GA legislators passed HB 87, among the strictest legislation in the U.S. aimed at controlling illegal immigration. However, a provision in the law established something special to the country the Immigration Enforcing Review Board (IERB), tasked with researching complaints about towns not observing immigration legislation.
Folks have contested the transparency of the board. Brenda Romero, Georgia state rep, and an immigration attorney states meeting times were not made accessible to the general public. However, at an IERB assembly on Dec. 5, Balli discussed a strategy to guarantee meeting dates have been scheduled beforehand. IERB pledged to be transparent as a part of its settlement agreeing to boost its compliance.
The board, composed of volunteers with no immigration or experience that is legal, has the capability. Sanctions may include deletion from Georgia's listing of qualified local authorities, fines of $1,000 to $5,000, and reduction of state financing, based on the IERB's principles. Participants are made for two-year provisions by the governor, lieutenant governor of Georgia and chairman of the home of Representatives. The yearly funding is $20,000.
Interested parties on each side of the immigration discussion don't encourage the plank in its present iteration. Georgia's board is a"curious manner" to ensure legal compliance,'' says Jessica Vaughan, chairman of policy understanding at the middle for Immigration Studies, a Washington, D.C.-based study firm that advocates for restricted immigration. States offer authorization to ensure compliance with a different state agency or the attorney general.
Any Georgia lawful residents who're a registered voter could file a complaint, however, just two possess, to get a total of 22 complaints, based on Stateline. The vast majority of complaints have come in the anti-illegal migration activist in exterior Atlanta that consulted HB 87 using its writer. At a recent interview, the IERB spoke about issues made by the interested party from boards of instruction in many counties for supposedly providing English instruction plans to direct parents of pupils. Balli said schools are prohibited by federal law from verifying that the status of their parents or students, therefore education plans were lawful. The complaints were dismissed.
Tumblr media
Another GA resident who has registered a complaint is then-Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, a Republican who had been running for governor at the time and given members to the IERB. Around November 2017, Casey Cagle detained Decatur, a town just outside of Atlanta, of not cooperating with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. In reaction, suits filed challenging the board's compliance with duration limitations and country transparency laws.
The IERB settled with the city of Decatur in its most recent meeting on Jan. 8.
Although Cagle did not look at the Jan. 8 meeting and did not win the case against Decatur or the governorship, the town needed to devote some time and resources protecting itself in a criticism that was available for at least a year.
The IERB's first and only nice was $1,000 from the city of Atlanta for breaking a state rule by limiting that the legal presence of folks applying for public benefits. However, the price can go beyond penalties. Shahshahani states need to take into account the possibility of facing the IERB.
Additionally, there are concerns about the members, that have immigration experience of the board. The chairman, balls, is a lawyer who specializes in local relations. He had been appointed to the board 2014 by home speaker David Ralston, also working on Ralston's legal group once the speaker has been charged with violating State Bar rules. Another five board members have been a county sheriff, a county commission chairman, just two mayors as well as chairman of the Georgia Republican Party districts of one. The board chair is empty. Republican leans. For more information about Atlanta, visit  Manji Law.
The review board has had difficulties with associates serving. Participants function terms of 2 years together with the choice to be selected again for a further term. However, two members made in 2011 just stepped down in 2018 later Decatur registered its suits. Another member, who's still on the board, has functioned because of 2011.
Back in January, IERB posted organizational occurrences for the remainder of 2019 on its own site, advice not there earlier.

21 Savage Confirms He Was Born In The U.K.
21 Savage Confirms He Was Born In The U.K. The detainment of 21 Savage has been a major topic of conversation over the past few days. Many have been hoping he would be released by now but the rapper is still in ICE's custody. However, with the amount of news that's emerged in the days since his arrest, his legal team released a statement to clarify a few of the details.
Tumblr media
21 Savage's legal team has clarified a few details including his residency status. In the statement released by his lawyers, they explained that 21 came to America at 7 years old -- not 12 as ICE claimed. They said that he stayed in the U.S. until June 2005 when he briefly went back to the U.K. However, he returned in July 2005 with a valid H-4 visa. The visa later expired the following year and "lost his legal status through no fault of his own." His legal team also detailed why he should be released on bond. They said that 21 isn't a flight risk or a danger to his community. His legal team also called out ICE for providing false information to the press pertaining to the rapper's criminal record. "Mr. Abraham-Joseph has no criminal convictions or charges under state or federal law and is free to seek relief from removal in immigration court. ICE provided incorrect information to the press when it claimed he had a criminal conviction," it reads. The statement also addressed speculation that 21 Savage's detainment was prompted by the version of "A Lot" he performed on Jimmy Fallon where he addressed immigration issues. . Peep the full statement below. Atlanta, GA – February 5, 2019 – There has been a great deal of misreporting in the case of She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, known professionally as 21 Savage.  Conjecture and misinformation help no one make good decisions and leads to false conclusions.  Here are the facts: Mr. Abraham-Joseph was born in the United Kingdom.  Mr. Abraham-Joseph arrived legally in the United states at the age of 7 under an H-4 visa. He remained in the United States until June 2005, when he departed for approximately one month to visit the United Kingdom.  He returned to the United States under a valid H-4 visa on July 22, 2005.  Mr. Abraham-Joseph has been continuously physically present in the United States for almost 20 years, except for a brief visit abroad.  Unfortunately, in 2006 Mr. Abraham-Joseph lost his legal status through no fault of his own. Mr. Abraham-Joseph, like almost two million of his immigrant child peers, was left without immigration status as a young child with no way to fix his immigration status.  These “Dreamers” come from all walks of life and every ethnicity.   Mr. Abraham-Joseph has no criminal convictions or charges under state or federal law and is free to seek relief from removal in immigration court.  ICE provided incorrect information to the press when it claimed he had a criminal conviction. Mr. Abraham-Joseph has three US Citizen children, a lawful permanent resident mother and four siblings that are either US Citizens or lawful permanent residents. He has exceptionally strong ties in the United States, having lived here since he was in the first grade.    Because of his length of residence in the United States and his immediate relatives, Mr. Abraham-Joseph is eligible to seek Cancellation of Removal from an Immigration Judge. Mr. Abraham-Joseph was placed into deportation proceedings AFTER his arrest, he was not in deportation proceedings prior to this detention by ICE.  DHS has known his address since the filing of a U visa application in 2017.  He has never hidden from DHS or any of its agencies. Mr. Abraham-Joseph is not subject to mandatory detention under federal law and is eligible for bond.  By statute, bond should be granted by ICE when there is no flight risk or a danger to the community.  ICE has the ability to set a bond and conditions of release on cases exactly like this.  ICE routinely grants bond to individuals in Mr. Abraham-Joseph’s circumstances, specifically individuals who have overstayed a prior valid visa and have relief from deportation under federal law. There is no chance that Mr. Abraham-Joseph is a flight risk.  Mr. Abraham-Joseph is not a “danger” to the community as his acts of philanthropy and good will, as well as his music, continue to improve the communities from which he comes.
