I’d say it took them around 8 months after wrapping season four to release the first volume.

If they want to reduce the wait for season 5 like they did season 4, and chose to break up the season in two, we could see volume one in august at the latest, then possibly volume two further into autumn.

Of course, if they split the season in two equal halves, we could see the first four episodes just as summer starts (pls don’t do that to me i have 12 exams to sit in june 🥲)

I can also see them choosing not to split up the season the same way they did before purely because season 5 is the last season, whilst s4 was somewhat of an intermediate season that was released over a longer period to maintain the hype for the show and keep people engaged.

Since ST is quite literally the most popular US show on netflix, i seriously doubt they are worried about keeping the hype alive as s5 is the last season, I can see them spending more time editing the whole thing and dropping it all at once.

It all depends on the amount of CGI compared to s4, the budget, the size of the post-production crew, and how much content they have to work with.

So here i’m thinking:

S5 is split into two equal halves: Vol 1 (e1-4) are released early summer, Vol 2 (e5-8) are released sometime in september or later.

S5 is split similarly to S4: Vol 1 (e1-5/6?) released in august and Vol 2 (6/7?-8) are released in september/october

S5 is not split and the entire season drops sometime in autumn 2025 (i can see them aiming for a late october/early november release to allign with the time of year the season itself is set in/link back to wills disappearance on nov 6th)

(very rare) S5 is released Weekly? Starting in october, ending in november - IMO this would have been great if the other seasons were released weekly, but since ST has always been formatted for a binger audience, so it might feel foreign to the audience and ruin the flow of the ending - i cannot see them doing this unless each episode borders on 2 1/2 hours long (i don’t even want to know how long this season is going to be but considering they’ve been shooting for a year straight it’s going to be so much longer than s4 despite having fewer episodes)

I know it doesn’t seem soon, but this will fly by! Plus this is purely based off s4, no one is more eager for this season to come out than the Duffer brothers themselves. I don’t know a lot about post-production, but i imagine they can hire twice as many people to hopefully get it out as soon as possible without taking away from the quality of the season.

Im grateful we still have time to be excited about new content and theorise about it because this is the last time we get to do it! Who knows when a show as good as ST will come along again, IF one will come along again?

The wait, however long, will be worth it!

but MAN. i REALLY wish it wasnt. theres a fair amount of material in vanilla elden ring that can be interpreted against it, and its a fairly solid case! using his own blood to water the haligtree, the creation of fundamentalism to cure his sister, his abandonment of it when it couldnt help malenia (despite the fact that radagon used it as a source of bonding between them, thus implicitly abandoning the ideals of his father as well), creating a safe haven for the outcasts of the golden order, otherwise completely staying out of the shattering except for the final battle, st trina offering the relief of sleep in a world without death where one must continue forevermore regardless if you want to or not, the creation of unalloyed gold that wards away outer gods, the MAIN power supply in the lands between!!! to be a god, to have POWER, you MUST invite an outer god into your life, the greater will the formless mother the frenzied flame the rot god the full and dark moons, and miquella is directly responsible for a substance that chases those entities away which in practice WEAKENS you. malenia is weaker without her rot. she isnt a goddess. YOU are weaker without the frenzied flame, you can no longer spread ruination across the whole of the lands between. unalloyed gold ONLY helps in that it allows one to maintain their self, their autonomy, and its explicitly miquellas own effort and work, not anyone elses.

furthermore, the light this casts on everyone connected to miquella...

the battle between malenia and radahn is incredibly fascinating. its a battle without a clear goal, between two overwhelmingly strong combatants. the framing of it, pre dlc, is incredibly ambigious, on both parties. Malenia had never relied on the scarlet rot before, fighting against its power tooth and nail. So the effects of the bloom are entirely unknown, beyond the explicit promise of power it makes.

Radahn has no explicit motive for participating in the Shattering, yet participate he did, being seen attacking Leydendell and being chased away by Morgott, who calls him a "willful traitor". Given his adoration of Godfrey, one can assume that Radahn participated, not for the chance to overthrow the tyranny of the Golden Order (which was Rykards motivation for seizing power, though that doesnt make him " good") or to reclaim his lineage (Godricks M.O.) but for just the glory of it. A war for wars sake. And he was a beloved general, well loved by many. But that doesnt make him a nice or good person. Malenia was also deeply loved by her soldiers, but she sets out on a march to Radahn for unknown purposes, stopping for no one, and not even responding to the insult Godrick visits upon her by challenging her as she passes through his lands. She isnt seeking glory or accolades here, is the thing.

Which brings me to the final fight. Two overwhelmingly powerful demigods, beloved by their soldiers, go to fight. Malenia, in desperation, sacrifices her self, her sense of identity, and everything she feels is important, for the promised power of Scarlet Rot, and falls unconscious, overwhelmed by its might. Finlay then carries the unconscious Malenia home on her back.

Lets stop and look at that. In the middle of a war, Radahns opponent detonates a nuke neither combatant were aware would go off, and then falls unconscious. One of Malenias own soldiers, Radahns enemy, then hefts Malenia onto her back and retreats. Radahn isnt a slouch. Weve all gotten our asses kicked at the festival. How does a single cleanrot knight grab a demigod that had thrown herself on top of her enemy manage to get all 8ft of her away from Radahn? Obviously theres room for all sorts of explanations but one stands out as the easiest and most obvious: Radahn lets her. This is consistent with Radahns sense of honor, and the event of Malenias bloom is cited as the end of both the battle AND the war. The battle, now clearly over with the fatal infection of one general and the other falling into a coma, has no point in being continued. And thus Radahn, who didnt immediately go insane, allowed Malenia the dignity of retreat, as the battle was done. Over. They both were finished. Scarlet Rot had no cure, and it was going to kill him even as his Great Rune burned to stave it off. So Finlay takes Malenia away, retreating without being meteor-ed to death. Radahn himself asks Jerren to grant him a warriors death, and the Festival is established, while Radahns redman knights set out to begin burning away the spreading rot. Radahn is cursed ever to wander, and Malenia lies sleeping under the Haligtree. No winners, but, and this is important, no clear moral highground. A battle with no victor, no high ground, a battle between equals, equally loved, framed as such in their fight. Whatever Malenia was fighting for, it mustve been important for her to sacrifice her dignity and sense of self. Whatever Radahn was fighting for... probably wasnt that, given his attack on Leydendell. Malenia and Miquella are traitors to the Erdtree for seeking to supplant it with the Haligtree, but Radahn might be a traitor simply for treating the most brutal war in the lands between as an oppurtunity to flex just like his war hero. Its what makes the idea of Radahns mercy so compelling, the fact that despite not being a good person, he isnt cruel either. He has honor, and respect, for his opponents. Malenia has ruined him, but in the aftermath he STILL doesnt degrade her or seek to one up her or take a final potshot in however long he retains sanity.

THATS A LOT DIFFERENT POST DLC THO

Now instead of an ambigious fight with no clear motive, Radahn is defending himself from an invading force whos goal is to make him the consort of a god he hasnt consented to marry. THATS A PRETTY CLEAR MORAL HIGHGROUND? Malenia goes from a powerful equal to someone with less agency AND less ground to stand on wrt radahn! Radahns attack of leydendell seems almost inconsequential to his character in the face of being invaded by an army with BIOHAZARDOUS MAGICAL AGENTS. Now Radahns mercy isnt a nuanced act by a complicated moral actor but instead just another goodguy point for everyones favorite bestest boy who hasnt done anything wrong by anyone (who even cares about a single image in the opening cutscene that lasts for a few frames?).

It cheapens Radahn, it cheapens Malenia, it cheapens Malenias sacrifice to the rot, it cheapens the Festival of Radahn, it cheapens Finlays retreat with Malenia, it makes Malenia look WORSE as a character, it makes Radahn look SIMPLE, and the fact that Mohgs palace where he has Miquella is directly under caelid is essentially just a weird coincidence, nevermind that the cocoon of the empyrean grace is extremely close to the heart of aeonia grace (where the fight between radahn and malenia actually happened), like thats just a funny lil map coincidence!

The birds are seemingly distracted for a moment, talking about incoming bids for the tech and robot, but waves attention is caught by the wolves voice and his easy breakout from the ropes. As the hawk holds up the cage. The tiny chao-sized hedgehog stares up at the wolf. It moves to slide its paw through the bars and pathetically reach and strain its tiny body to try and reach out to him for help since it recognizes crescent, letting out small mechanical cries once more. This is essentially a living hell for the little robot. Nothing but a little pet in a cage.

When you're 18-24 i think all u should really be doing is like. chilling, recovering from highschool, smoking cigs, taking photos, listening to songs, reading, trying different clothes, playing outside, Soaking eveything up like a sponge, taking it *in*...taking it all in then thru trial & error figuring out what Really resonates !! and PPL will try to tell u its a waste of time, dont listen!!!! create stuff but dont put pressure on urself to be good at anything yet. dont feel pressure to like, have solidified into something permanent yet? ifthatmakes sense.. goof around a lot, dont limit yourself to any existing structures, be new & expansive, open minded.

And just chill :] look around at your world all the time and think "Wow. I'm 18 and i'll never be 18 again and life is beautiful." i still do this for every age i ever am i think its so imporant to do this. Sky fought the hold (it was taking Warriors, Twilight, Wild, and Four to keep him even that still). Ozone was building in the air, the smell sickeningly sweet. Wind was keeping the gales from the Chosen at bay, as much as he could. The little Sailor’s nose had started bleeding with the sheer effort of this battle of wills. Wind himself hadn’t noticed yet, face screwed up in concentration of diverting Sky’s growing storm.

“Do something!” Wild pleaded with Hyrule. Sky jerked and almost tore himself free. Hyrule was calling his magic, but this...poison extended beyond fairy magic to heal. Sky pleaded once more for the demon he saw in Time’s place to ‘let him fall to silence.’

The ocarina song he could hear from the Master Sword changed its melody and offered a solution.

Day to night, dark to light,

Fall the sands of time.

Let the years, like the gears

Of a clock, unwind.

The Song of Healing. A melody to free a tormented soul. He... he couldn’t do that! Sky was in pain, had been for months. It was his fault. But this was one of his boys! He couldn’t risk losing the Chosen Hero.

Producing a mask of his own meager magic reserves had drained him beyond exhaustion.

“Is he breathing?” Was Time’s only question as Warriors got to Sky first. The boys all seemed to hold their breath as Warriors carefully turned Sky to check.

(Spoilers) Theory: Imu is not purposely sinking the One piece world. They actually are trying to delay the problem (kinda).

(Disclamer: im not expert in oceans or climate so maybe it's just nonsense but i think is worth a shot)

Let me explain:

The Lulusia kingdom destruction is being blamed for the rising on the ocean level but what if it wasn't the cause of it but actually some type of solution to the rise of the sea level?

The destruction of that land created a massive hole that is now being filled with the ocean so shouldn't the level of water decrease after all? But like we saw in wano and water 7 and heard from Vivi in Alabasta and confirmed by vegapunk the water have been rising

Of course the effects of the destruction of Lulusia are felt and it was most likely the earthquake and those things often cause tsunamis that flood lands however what if it was gonna rise anyway and rise even more( Doflamingo said 5 meters at once was all that was needed for most cities to flood) so 1 meter in rising and a earthquake end up being not that bad for the rest of the world in comparison especially if they don't know the goverment destroyed a whole island for that.

But you can say Vegapunk said it was gonna raise only 1 meter but Vegapunk knew the goverment had the weapon to destroy a kingdom he actually created it he probably already knew if only by putting the clues they would use it in a island and because of that the sea was gonna rise only 1 meter.

This would give another reason to why Vegapunk Vegapunk kept working for the world goverment despide knowing how bad they are and even created such dangerous things for them. There was this very real problem of the rising of sea levels he was trying to solve.

This would also explain why Lulusia was destroyed like that when they didn't even know Sabo was there and the goverment didn't save that weapon for another moment like so many people questioned. They couldn't. Lulusia was one of the places that could be destroyed and create a crater big enough and probably in the right location to get flooded and ease the rise to the ocean levels. Other question is why the world climate is so crazy is this just the planet or interventions even not on purpose were responsible for shaping the planet to what it is today and even continue to do. Also if the one piece planet weather would just be weird like that it would fit with weird weather we hear about in other planet in our own solar system so another clue this is not their native planet and would make more sense that the fishman are the natives not the humans because being capable of diving at any moment and live underwater would solve a lot of problems the weird one piece weather could cause to survival.

I'm not trying to be a bummer but im genuinely scared Stranger Things may get cancelled. This strike is not looking good and as you talked about in another post the longer they wait the harder it would be to pull this next seasons release off. I will really be heartbroken if it is especially because of how invested I am with byler.

I’ve sort of touched on this before, but in the case Stranger Things doesn’t continue as a result of the studios refusing to come to a fair deal (this is still very, very unlikely), we’d have a lot bigger concerns than our favorite show being cancelled.

It would mean the end of entertainment as we know it, with any and every current show out there being cut at whatever point it was left off on, basically a complete dismantling of the industry.

And something like that occurring would have a ripple effect on all of us and our lives, bc as many have said, the prospects of AI has the capacity to interfere in all lines of work eventually, even outside of the entertainment industry.

That future would look pretty goddamn bleak, and we’d probably all be dealing with the effects of that in ways that would be a lot more serious to our livelihood than a fictional show continuing to its end.

Don’t get me wrong though. I love Stranger Things and movies and television in general, like it’s literally what gives me the courage to fight on through the boring day to day (🥴😭🫡). And yet still, the livelihood of everyone affected in a scenario like that concerns me because it would mean something very detrimental to our future.

While I am willing to consider the possibility of this scenario, because the state of the world is already pretty bleak as it is and will likely continue to be regardless of which way this goes, I also want to make clear that in the case of ST, this show not finishing is a very very unlikely scenario.

99% of current shows could be cut short by the studios as a result of the strikes, and ST would very likely be in the 1% that survived. So again, this is a very doomsday sort of picture I'm painting when I talk about this. That's what I mean when I say I'd be way more concerned about the world itself...

Because I do think ST ending before it's intended end (with contracts already written, mind you) would literally mean Netflix's downfall bc what else do they have that’s worth continuing or starting up, all while not finishing ST? I would argue nothing. They also have a bunch of spin offs and other projects in the works planned with the Duffers, and all of that would kind of not be worth going through in a scenario where the original show that inspired it all got cut short. It’s just not feasible.

I think I tend to juggle a sort defeatist attitude about it because that's probably just my way of handling all of this stuff that is largely out of our control. It gives me some sanity to at least make myself comfortable with the idea of it not continuing, all while knowing that is an unlikely scenario. Then in the case it does get cut (again, very unlikely), maybe I won't be so devastated.

I’m bored so here’s some of my jackets IG, pretty much all of these were jackets that I got on sale super cheap or that I was given.

The purple jacket is my newest and still very much a work in progress, (all of them are escrow the Donnie Darko one actually, purple is jsut the newest) and I need to redo the back patch (Polkas Not Dead by The Dreadnoughts, fave album by my fave band) next to it is my other main jacket which has a Danger Days back design. “Do Good Recklessly” is a saying that has resonated with me a lot so I figured it would be cool to have it there. I got a Reel Big Fish patch coming in the mail soon and I wanna get a Ska Dream patch for it, trying to decide if I wanna add some colored/patterned panels to it bc that night look cool. Gotta figure out what other bands I wanna put on it but it’s kinda hard to find colorful patches lmao

The gray jacket actually started off as a cosplay item for a Killjoys OC that I never got around to doing. I consider this my first jacket even tho there was a really shitty vest that I wore one singular time before I got this one. My boyfriend actually made a few of the patches that are on the gray jacket (Days N Daze and Polkas Not Dead above the spider) as birthday gifts when we first met, I don’t put a ton of patches on that jacket and it’s all bands that are v important to me for various reasons, the Frank Turner one was from the first show I went to with my boyfriend and he has one on one of his jackets too. Mischief Brew is one of my fave bands and their music means a lot to me, LS Dunes (the pyramid) has a really cool community surrounding it so I thought it would be cool to put that there. It also has zippered sleeves which makes it really nice for year round use!! Also has a Billy Idol pin because I grew up listening to Generation X and I still adore that debut album. Im immunocompromised and have a kidney transplant so I decided to add the pins to represent that because they are a big part of who I am.

On the bottom two pics, the left jacket is my queer horror inspired jacket. I am at some point gonna get a backpatch of The Old Dark House of a scene at the end of the movie with Morgan (Boris Karloff) holding Saul’s body (Brember Wills.) It also has a few Rocky Horror related items on it such as the “creature of the night” patch coming from the song Touch-A, Touch-A, Touch Me as well as the iconic lips and Frank-N-Furtor. Also have a The Lost Boys pin and the Babadook as well as a Beetlejuice pin. The Elm St. pin is specifically for Nightmare 2 and Gene Co is from Repo the Genetic Opera, a movie with a bisexual face stealer. It’s a fun time. Frankenstein and the Bride are classic queer coded cinema and James Whales was an openly gay man who directed both (as well as The Old Dark House) in the 1930s.

The last jacket is my Donnie Darko jacket. Donnie Darko is one of my fave movies, everting except the pins were done by hand. The pins are all artists who are actually featured in the soundtrack of the movie.

G - Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in it

OKAY SO I started shipping all the way back in 2006-7 when Youtube was the new hot shit around, and I was an itty bitty kid on early internet. Whom had Pokemon and Sonic as her main big interests at the time. I'm forever thankful for those old as fuckkkkkk tribute videos, with the biggest bops from that era. Although, I'm unable to pinpoint which ship I stumbled upon first, so I consider I started shipping them at around the same time: Rival Barry/Dawn (Twinleafshipping) and Shadow the hedgehog/Tikal the echidna (Shadikal).

FUN FACT- I have been SO long into Twinleafshipping that when I first saw it, Barry had YET to receive his official name for either Japanese and English versions. Gen 4 had YET to be released in the west, and we still didn't even know all the pokemon species introduced in it. So, the fandom nicknamed him as Damion, and for the longest time that's how we called him by. Until his official name was revealed.

And my very first queer ship was Alucard/Richter Belmont from Castlevania. That was mindblowing for sb who lived in a country, where even to this day same-sex couples and lgbtq topics are treated as a taboo.

I - Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why

I got into Tumblr all the way back in 2015 BECAUSE of my hyperfixation on League of Legends, and by 2017 I was done with the entire franchise. I can't say I blame tumblr entirely for me falling out of love with LoL, there were a number of factors that caused me to distance myself from it (the fact I had stopped playing the game altogether, bc my computer couldn't run it anylonger). But I can say that LoL's fandom is already infamously toxic as it is, and on Tumblr that shit becomes unhinged. And I'm certain that since the inception of Arcane, that fandom must have got even worse.

The only reason we don't hear that much about it nowadays is bc, there is now actual competition for the prize of 'the worst community'. Genshin Impact somehow managed to speedrun those levels of toxicity and unhingedness.

It was through LoL's fandom on tumblr I first saw the lengths, some not-sound of mind individuals are willing to go, to """defend""" their ships. It was the first time I saw anyone receive genuine hate and death threats, just bc they didn't sign up to the popular and most wide spread ship. And I heard through a friend of mine who is still into LoL, that side of the community truly became the worst, thanks to Arcane. Bc now you got a bunch of motherfuckers who never touched the game, wanting to weight in on shit from ppl who aren't interested in the animated show.

Q - A ship you’ve abandoned and why

It's really difficult for me to drop any ship... At all. So much so, I don't recall dropping any ship in my previous fandoms (Pokemon/Star wars/Castlevania). I may not focus on some ships as compared to others, but that's mainly due to me likely having folks to talk about another ship. But I'm still most definetely a shipper.

As such, I think the very first case of me genuinely dropping a ship happened in the Saint Seiya fandom LOL. I've mentioned it a few times, I shipped Sha.ka/M.u for maybe at most 15 days. It was literally the very first ship I came across, and I genuinely loved how pretty ppl's works for the ship were. Then, the more I dug into StS' lore & content. The more I realized how this couple has little to NO actual substance to offer (by which I mean those two characters literally barely interact with one another, in the entire series).

It actually took me awhile to find out about Aldebaran/Mu, and when I did...

Nevermore looked back at it since LOL.

My theory as to why that ship is massively popular bc most of its fans likely are going off their really vague memories of watching the show, in their childhoods. And solely bc those characters look really good together (I'll give it that, their aesthetic is nice. But that's all you get bc LOL). And they feel entitled to crapping/disrespecting other ships, just bc popular ship brainrot behavior uwu.

me and my friend are running a two person multiplayer save on bg3 and the silliness of our tav's dynamic inspired me. we have full intention to drag these idiots into a proper campaign so im not tagging this as baldur's gate.

Anyone who had heard that the Raging Phoenix, a war priest of Bahamut was traveling with a man called the Silver Tongued Devil, a man known for scamming gods, devils, and fae would be hard pressed to believe it. A war cleric and a paladin, a paladin sworn to an oath of vengeance, no less, consorting with, protecting a warlock bound to how many devils? It's odd.

But alas, that was truth of the matter of the strange duo in the tavern.

The Phoenix, Inquisitor Lady Guinevere St. James, stood in all her horrible glory, menacing aura of radiance glittering around her head like a halo. Her trimmed black and golden ringmail armor caught the candle light of the tavern in such a way to make it look aflame. Her massive broadsword dripped blood from the first strike she had taken, gleaming, hungry, desperate to be fed with the souls of those the Inquisitor judged guilty. Her expression was one of barely contained rage, teeth bared, tail lashing, eyes glimmering with simmering wrath, a dragon begging to be unleashed. She had positioned herself between the warlocks in the tavern and the half-elf behind her. Acting as a living shield between emissaries of Lorcan and Vasile, the Devil You Know. Her massive frame kept them from reaching Vasil, but he was actively undermining that protective effort by peeking out from past her shoulder.

"Truly, I don't know what your problem with me is!" he whined, looking at them from over Guinevere's shoulder. "I never made a deal with Lorcan!"

"Vas," Guinevere growled a warning, glancing disdainfully at him from her periphery, not fully willing to tear her gaze from the warlocks before them.

"Whaaat?" He asked, looking up at her. "I didn't! I don't know why they're mad!" he gestured broadly at the band of warlocks.

Guinevere sighed, her intimidating, near vengeful god aura dissipating as her halo fades. She pinches the bridge of her nose like a disappointed teacher. "Quite frankly, Vas. What devil isn't mad at you?"

Vasile opens his mouth for a moment before closing it, unable to come up with an answer.

"My point exactly," Guinevere sighs, shoving him back behind her. "Now stay put," she hisses.

Vas makes a mocking gesture behind her, one Guinevere doesn't deign to respond to.

"And you!" she turns to the warlocks, radiant energy shimmering about her head like a halo once more as she channels divinity through her blade, lighting it to crackle with golden light. Her eyes glimmer with silvery wrathful light as she stalks forward, step by step.

The warlock at the head of the pack of three, a slender wood elf, stumbles back a step as she approaches, footfalls silent as a cat's, teeth bared in violent promise.

She stops about a foot from him, and stabs her sword into the ground between them, a small tremor trembling out from the point of impact, the earth at the door crackling with divine energy.

The warlock at the front flinches back.

She leans into his face, barely inches apart. "I suggest you run. Because if you lay a hand on my friend, I'll flay you alive and use your skin as a flag to my lord and his vengeance," she whispers. "Do I make myself clear?"

The trio doesn't answer, sprinting off into the city proper instead.

recent media update (long but not toooo long)

- the new unpublished jack white album is fucking fire, it's the closest thing to a new white stripes album that we've had in all of his solo work. actually would have been completely willing to believe it was a white stripes album and not a solo album if I didn't know ahead of time. he's my fucking GOAT I missed his guitar work so bad

- stacklands is a neat little game that charmed me immediately! had it on my watch list for PC for a while but got it on switch instead. maybe a slightly suboptimal decision bc it would be easier using a mouse, but not a dealbreaker at all and it feels good as a portable game

- jujutsu kaisen has been so deeply fucking silly that it's almost beginning to wrap around to funny. not quite yet, unfortunately, but almost. for now it just kind of sucks though. the fall off has been unbelievably steep over the last 2-3 years, it's crazy

- ive slowly started recovering from the rust of not playing slay the spire for a couple years! it's just like riding a bike. an incredibly murderous bike that thrives on your failure and is out to get you in ways you didn't even think possible. winrate is still in the gutter for now but it's rising (minus defect. defect will prob take longer to re-learn than the other three put together) cannot fucking wait for sts 2

- I made the critical mistake of putting down unicorn overlord for a few days while busy with work. picked it back up and realized I completely forgot what I was doing with my squad composition and tactics and all. had to put it back down again bc im genuinely going to have to set aside time just to figure out what I was aiming for. feels exactly like looking at code and thinking 'what fucking idiot wrote this garbage wtf' and then realizing it is in fact your own code from a few months ago.

- my forensic accounting textbook is kinda mid. worldbuilding is kinda bland, characterization is lacking, plot is all over the place. would not recommend!

What you said about cults really surprised me, but I realized that it did apply to some degree. I've always felt a lot of relatability to cult survivors, even though I never considered myself to be one and I never understood why.

I spent a while on the internet last night and learned about something called narcassitic family dysfuntion, which is when the family dysfuntion works like a cult around the narcassitic person, typically the parent.

Like it's not a cult in the traditional sense, but the same effects of a cult happen - the isolation, manipulation, self worth issues, the world revolving around the narcassit who can do no wrong, etc.

You are right that Im an adult, 19, and for as long as I can remember my mom always says something like "oh it's not safe out there" when I ask to go somewhere by myself, or "I would feel more comfortable if I knew where you were going/ if you didn't go" and Im not allowed to go out at night, as, being female, Im apparently going to get kidnapped/assaulted. (Even though we live somewhere really safe) (and, honestly, getting kidnapped seems like a relief). Because all the isolation was framed for my safety, I never questioned it until I got older and I really started to feel the pull of wanting to Leave. My mom still uses that same excuse. That it's for safety that she needs to know where I am all the time and I have to text her any time I go somewhere to let her know I made it/when Im going home.

I tried to talk to my therapist about the isolation and how much it bothered me, but they just told me to push harder against my mom and like. That's not how this works. I cannot win one of these arguments. Like I never have. ever. It's so hard to describe just how all consuming this is. My mom always pulls out the guilt treatment when I want to go out and I feel like Rapunzel. I know it's not normal and I hate it. But it feels like the most mild thing that's going on at home. And to be clear, I can go outside onto the property, in the backyard, whenever, but that's kind of it. Also I didn't realize that being able to go anywhere whenever is a human right. That's.... Ah.

I apologize for this word vomit, I guess I'm just trying to process this in your ask box.

I guess I was also wondering if soon, if it's okay, you'd be willing to make a post about enmeshed families? I would find that really helpful.

Also - was it you who made the post about how to identify if you're being held captive by your parents, or was that someone else, I can't remember.

"and, honestly, getting kidnapped seems like a relief" THAT is relatable but also a red flag, so many kids feel this, being kidnapped would be something that is provable and generally accepted as a 'very bad thing to happen to you', and it would be a huge relief just to be able to point out the cause of your suffering, opposed to the abuse you're going thru right now, that feels invisible, unprovable.

Abusive parents love acting like letting their children out of the house is 'unsafe', but what it does is simply keep children imprisoned (or even adults, in your case). The way we keep protected in this world is not by staying in forever, because that's not a decent human life, and it's inhumane. We deal with this by teaching the kids how to recognize, identify and deal with the danger. Being female in public is not a problem if you are surrounded with a community of your own, if you have a network of people that you can, at anytime, ask for help, who can get you out of sticky situations, who can watch out for your back.

Generally what most people do is just make sure that their kids can recognize and sus out dangerous people, there are guidelines and rules set in place; you don't go alone in an alley with a person you don't know, if someone gives you a bad vibe, you go and hang around your friends where you are safe, you go home before it's late and people get drunk/violent, if necessary and if you visit very unsafe places, you could even be taught to use a weapon or self-defence, in order to keep safe.

And these rules are usually only necessary at night, at locations where predators are more likely to be, at bars, places people generally get drunk or try to get you drunk. You are hardly in danger going to the convenience store, to the bank, to the beach, to a tourist attraction, to any public place in general. You are unlikely to be kidnapped unless someone would have a great financial incentive to kidnap you at this point (if your parents were so rich they could give out a ransom), and if you're taught to recognize the signs of human trafficking and just be reasonably and rightfully wary of strangers and not give them your information or details, you'd generally be safe.

I've never been in anywhere close as much danger in public as I was at home. People are seen in public and they cannot do the illegal and criminal shit they can do behind closed doors, in their own houses. People in public have to watch out, they can't abuse you as easily, and often even won't recognize you as a target unless you seem inebriated and oblivious.

I can relate a little to the 'outside is dangerous' because one of my family members kept saying that to try and stop me from doing activities outside, but this family member had the least amount of influence, and it didn't stop me. I understand when a family member who has the most amount of influence does this to you, it's a completely different story, and you're effectively trapped. But what they're doing is lying to you. You're not being kept inside in order to be safe. You're not being taught how to spot and avoid danger, and that in itself, is more dangerous. It is, in fact, exactly like Rapunzel, and you're I think, the third person I know of, who recognized themselves in that situation.

I'd love to write more about enmeshed families, but the thing is, this is not an experience I had, and I cannot possibly understand or describe how it feels. I think Jenette McCurdy, in her book 'I'm glad my mom died', describes this way better than I possibly could, so i recommend that you read the book (contact me privately if you want me to send the book to you).

And I agree with you about your therapist not understanding the situation - going against the abuser, without the means to protect yourself, will inevitably end in them realizing they're losing control over you, and they will do something insane, drastic and extremely painful to put you back in order, but you already know that, because it's likely you've already been traumatized in this way and know what to expect. Your therapist doesn't seem to understand how dangerous it is to push against the abusers without any safety (ability to get away from them before they can retaliate).

I did make that post about recognizing if you're held captive, yeah! I'm glad it was helpful. And of course I'm here to talk about abuse. If something written here can help one person clear their mind and recognize their situation, that is huge for me.

I think you laid out a good strategy for getting through the next several weeks and I would encourage anyone who’s feeling especially vulnerable right now to take the same precautions or just step away for a while. It’s been rough enough already, it’s going to get rougher, so please decide what’s best for your own wellbeing. You don’t owe AMC and co anything. They owe you a show you can be excited about.

If you do stick around, remember there’s an entire community of people just like you who have found comfort in Caryl’s story all these years and are more than willing to talk. I’m not confident the transition from S1 to S2 will be smooth. I’m looking forward to Shalaka’s and Vanna’s Caryl podcast that’s going to breathe new life into me, ISTG. And most of all, I’m looking forward to Carol/Caryl hopefully getting the stories they deserve in S2.
