i gotta say, im still not totally sold on BEcause as a song... i definitely know that i dont hate it haha, i would know pretty immediately if that was the case. but so now it’s just a matter of figuring the song out, seeing which parts really stick with me, which dont work as well for me as other parts, etc. idk yet. like, legitimately, idk yet.. im not just saying that as a euphemism for “i dont like it” haha, i mean i genuinely am not really sure. but like, just like how i didnt hate it on first listen, i also didnt love it on first listen either. i’m optimistic that with countless listens over the next couple weeks, i’ll really get into it, and i’ll grow to love it. that happens more often than loving something on first listen anyway, and some of my all time favorite kpop songs are ones that i didnt really love until like the 50th listen, once i really knew the song well haha. 

i could see myself still liking Odd Eye more overall, or i could see myself preferring BEcause to Odd Eye. i’m not sure yet. it’s tricky cause it’s so different lol, and so one of the issues is that my expectations for what the song would be are running up against what the song actually is, and even if the actual song is really good, it still will take me a bit to adjust and just listen to the song for what it is, haha. 

anyway, on another note, i think i like the choreo on first watch though. no backup dancers this time, which is an interesting move, and will really set the dystopia trilogy apart as a trilogy, rather than just a new phase for dreamcatcher. like, backup dancers werent a permanent thing, they were a dystopia trilogy thing (and idk, they might have backup dancers again in a future comeback, that’s always on the table). i like the backup dancers, and having them and the props that they used did make for some interesting performances, but like.... in my opinion, i prefer choreos without backup dancers so much more. most of the time anyway. Scream, Boca, and Odd Eye’s choreos are more theatrical, with often just the member who is singing onstage, and backup dancers and props helping set a scene, like theater. and that’s cool, don’t get me wrong haha. but yeah, imo nothing beats watching a full-group fancam of a choreo that is very heavy on synchronization and interesting and unique formations of the members lol. that’s why i adore izone choreos, for example. BEcause’s choreo isnt as striking and amazing on first watch as something like Chase Me or Good Night, which are some of the best choreos ever in terms of interesting-formations-per-minute lmao, but it’s in that vein again and i love that. 

like, again, don’t get me wrong, i love Scream, Boca, and Odd Eye’s choreos, but they were their own unique thing, and their pros and cons were different from their other style of choreo. rather than focusing on how the choreo looks when you can see the whole thing from a fixed angle, like youre in the audience or something, the dystopia trilogy choreos seem to me to focus on how it looks in an edited livestage format, with closeups and stuff. individual-member fancams for those songs are kinda weird, cause some members spend a large portion of the song waiting at the sides of the stage, just standing there. and again, i feel like i gotta keep saying this lol, that’s fine, it creates an end-result that is also really cool and interesting and powerful, it’s just a different design philosophy... if that makes sense. if you prefer that kind of choreo, you could argue that BEcause and Piri and What and Fly High and the others *lack* a certain theatricality that the Dystopia trilogy has, and you could argue that those choreos require much more of their acting and charisma in their performance, rather than just physical ability, and you would be totally valid haha, i can’t argue with that. it’s just a matter of preference to me.

okay now that ive woken up and i can think harder about the song, im interested to see how my opinion of it forms. right now, im not sure exactly what i think about odd eye. it’ll take a lot more research (as in, listening to it lol)

i like it... but how much? i dont know yet. it’s not as clear-cut as scream was for me, but then again, scream was much more of a surprise. up until that point, nothing they had done previously hit as hard and as intense as scream did, but now this is part 3 of the dystopia trilogy and they all hit super hard, so it wasnt as big of a shock this time. so like, while my initial reaction wasnt “OH MY GOD THIS IS THE BEST SONG IVE EVER HEARD” the same way it was with scream... at the same time, i think there’s a very real possibility that odd eye ends up as one of my favorite songs lol. first impressions are important, sure, but honestly what matters more is how well a song stands the test of time. and even though my first impression for this song was less shocking than scream (though it was bigger than my first impression of boca i think), i can picture this song standing the test of time really well for me. i cant wait to find out lol

oh hmmm... the ones that immediately come to mind are of course siyeon, yoohyeon, kim sejeong, weki meki suyeon, jo yuri, other main/lead vocals in groups that i like... but i also like people who just have really good and recognizable voices, like joy and yena. also i know that siyeon is the best singer in dreamcatcher (and one of the best in kpop), but i think my personal favorite in dc is jiu haha. her voice just sounds like sunshine. listen to the first thirty seconds of ‘wake up’ and you’ll see what i mean haha

durians - your ideal best friend, s/o, and sibling

like, the kpop idols who are those? hmmm.... most of my biases are my biases because i wanna be their friend, or it’s because i look up to them and want myself to be like them haha. so like, i guess my answer is yoojung lol, to the surprise of nobody who follows me. but i dont really think about wanting any kpop idol to be my s/o... like sure there are ones that i find really attractive, but idk. im in a relationship already lol, ive been with my partner for 4 (almost 5!) years, so im good. and sibling? uhhh idk... are there people who want idols to be their sibling? like you want your parents to adopt them or to get married to their parents or something? cause like, if you just mean a really close friend who you are “like siblings” with, then that still falls under “ideal best friend” hahaha

i mean on the one hand that wasnt what i was expecting, but on the other hand i guess it kinda was lol. since boca is spanish, i figured it’d have a sort of latin-y influence, and i wasnt sure how well that would go over, and after having heard it now im not sure lol, i’ll have to listen to it some more. it’s definitely a new direction for them lol... but leez and ollounder have done stuff like this before, they also wrote title tracks for the kpop group ‘favorite’, which are latin inspired. 

the guitar also sounded a little funny to me but i cant put it into words lol, i’ll listen some more and see if i can figure out why i got that impression

basically my first impression is that it seems like the kind of song that’ll get better and better the more i listen because like... it’s dreamcatcher lol, i’ll find tons of details to appreciate about it. but it’s not the type of thing i typically gravitate towards on the whole, in general. and thats okay lol, i’m just speaking for myself here. though like, sometimes when i hear a comeback from a group, my first thought after listening to it is “what the hell was that, what did i just listen to, this isnt at all what i wanted”, and like that’s not how i felt about this at all. i wanna make that clear lol. i kinda felt that way about deja vu when it first dropped since it was my first dc comeback and it was slower and gentler (for the most part), but then deja vu ended up being my second favorite dc song haha, so like i knew that boca wasnt gonna be something i disliked outright (and even if it was, it’d probably grow on me). i just think it’ll take a bit of getting used to. and honestly i dont mind that it’s not an instant favorite for me, because scream was so good and so specifically geared to my tastes that like, i mean, they could do literally anything and i wouldnt mind. they already put out the song of the year, a song that i’ve listened to more than twice as much as any other song this year so far, so like i dont mind them branching out and experimenting with different styles more. they can afford to, lol. well, as long as the whole latin influence thing goes over well, that’s kind of a grey area to me, but i guess it’s fairly common in kpop these days, for better or worse... anyway im gonna listen several more times, brb
