ahoj pampelišky! hello dandelions! today, i would like to write something about

❊❀❁the 5 parts of the south bohemian region❁❀✽

each has its own rich and unique culture, cuisine and clothing. i hope you enjoy!

so first, here's a little map:

so first, i would like to introduce you the moust southern region,

❀Doudlebsko

the name itself cannot be translated, as the land is literally named after a slavic tribe called Doudlebové (the Doudlebs), that lived here sometime in 6. - 7. century AC. theres even a fricking village named after them! they also lived in Slovenia and Ukraine.

The region was never very rich, 'cause there's quite a lot of mountains and stuff, so farming isn't too easy here. instead, there were lots of craftsmen - glassmakers, weavers, lace makers. people also cut wood since most of the region is even nowadays covered with forests. because of that, the traditional clothing is - compared to other regions - very simple. but im probably going to post lots of stuff about clothing in the future, so i dont want to get into that very much rn.

❀Blata

the name is literally translated as ,,the Muds" or better, ,,the Morasses". and its very honest tbh. the land is very flat, fertile and wet. there were lots of swamps in here, but the economy ruined the most of them (mostly in the 19. century) because they mined peat and used it in the glass shops as fuel.

the land was very rich compared to Doudlebsko, and that influenced the clothing. it is very rich and colorful, with lots of layers and embroideries.

❀Táborsko/Kozácko

A small, not very important region around the town Tábor. The clothing is pretty influenced by the middle bohemian culture, but still has its own unique traits. my favourite item from the traditional dress is a white apron with little embroidered red flowers.

dandelion x priscilla was probably the one of the biggest mistakes cdpr made (the primary one being that ciri doesn’t call yennefer ‘mom.’)

priscilla is almost entirely based off of essi daven, who was a character that dandelion saw as a younger sister: a younger, female bard, also blonde, who was wonderfully prone to bickering and love of all things creative. to hammer this point home, if you get mods to make dandelion blonde like he is canonically, this really becomes apparent symbolically in that they look pretty related... ew

the idea of making dandelion committed to a single woman is just funny and OOC. in the books the only woman he ever swears total loyalty to is duchess anna henrietta of toussaint, and swears they’re going to be married, and then he even cheats on her! literally cheats on a duchess of all people, which schedules him an execution in the city square.

“ha ha dandelion is so narcissistic he could only ever commit to himself. he doesn’t care about anyone but himself (and priscilla is a representation of himself but just in female form)” are we forgetting brokilon. are we forgetting the escape from vissigerd’s camp. are we forgetting the entire journey of the hansa. come on now . part of his character arc in the saga was how he proves to be loyal to geralt and— ok . ok. also i think reducing a female character’s identity to “this guy’s girlfriend is just a carbon copy of him” can come off as kinda weird ...

no hate on priscilla i just wish cdpr had no reason to do this besides “in order for there to be a happy ending, everyone needs to pony up with a partner of the opposite sex and be happily monogamous forever :)” which is just so weird... why conform... let a man be slutty

i might have developed a witcher superhero au even though i dont even care for the superhero genre and have no experience with it. idk if this aligns with any kind of superhero canons out there since i dont have experience im just saying whatever i want to. also this is from september of last year and comprised from a few different discord messages i sent to my friends

note that i build aus by just looking at the canon and making everything fit a different universe instead of creating extremely different situations and characters... i.e., it’s an alternate universe, not an alternate story.

some worldbuilding clarifications:

in this there are characters that are just some guys. dandelion is just a regular singer. but imagine if like elton john and batman were best friends forever and everyone knew about their epic friendship

superheroes in this are treated ig just basically like magic abilities in the witcher; some ppl have them though its rare, theres a few schools in the world to develop them

i dont see a necessity in this au specifically to add things in like “superheroes are oppressed for having powers” or anything like that because [ironic for a witcher books fan to say] i dislike oppression allegories if they’re overt comparisons to specific forms of oppression irl, and i’d rather real oppression be tackled instead because it can be insensitive a lot of the time

there’s also superheroes who dont have powers which are a lot of our cast lol. geralt just still has two swords and the ability to kick ass

as for setting, there’s always like some city this stuff is set in but i want to genre bend and say a lot of it is roadtripping through the countryside and they only enter cities when the plot calls for it (like entering reidbrune in ttos)

heres some cringey supernames:

geralt: “the white wolf”… but more commonly “the wolf”. the “the” is mandatory :/ yennefer: menace dandelion: that’s already his stage name. gay ass milva: “kite”. opposite of geralt in that there is never a “the”. cahir: doesn’t have a super identity or name and doesn’t want one. he’s “the [unknown] rider” sometimes because he kidnapped ciri while riding a motorcycle regis: it’s complicated, scroll down angoulême: just a supervillain’s henchman for now, but has meticulously brainstormed and planned out potential supervillain’s names, and she wants to be a supervillain called “dagger”… “because, you know, dagger, like? sharp? cutting? i’m funny, i wound people. what’s not to love.”

geralt is a vigilante so/but ppl just see him as an inconvenience. this world might take place in a post-nuclear setting where the effects have created monsters and also are the sources of people’s superpowers. 

yennefer is not a superhero so to speak but she just has powers and uses them whenever she wants. sometimes its cool and sometimes it causes traffic incidents. she just owns her own small business and doesn’t care too much about using her powers for good or evil, she just wants a regular life. she got more bad rap than she deserved though just bc she didnt play to society’s ‘you have to use your powers for either good or evil’ thing. geralt meets her in a similar fashion to the canon last wish. complete with crashing a dinner party

yennefer: literally just minding her own damn business and living her life everyone else: so why don’t you exist for MY benefit . what a b*tch

just like in canon, the main conflict is that ciri is like being hunted by the government for her powers and by leagues of other ppl with powers (lodge, aen elle) for the same reasons. she has superhero abilities but doesnt know how to control them and if this were a superhero comic she could teleport inbetween the pages and enter/exit scenes through the margins

milva gets caught strategically taking out hateful and violent people as a vigilante and gets caught by eithne and joins her coalition instead. 

cahir is a young man from a wealthy family who through nepotism gets a job at a tech company and then gets tasked with retrieving ciri so the company can use her for her powers.

regis was a supervillain (bc of course…) … eventually he stopped going insane though and became normal and is now a trauma surgeon at a hospital 😅. slightly different backstory than in canon, since he is human in this - he is one of a few ‘gifted’ people who developed powers from a young age and this was overwhelming to his parents so he was in the foster care system for a long time. he generally exploited the lack of care from parents and sought attention and affection from peers instead, showing off. he became famous and revelled in the attention from not only other people but local news outlets and the media. but when they moved on he became embittered and started to arrogantly and narcisticically exploit his fans for power and he might have overthrown the city at one point idk anyways he died of his own stupid accord but came back through his powers. oh yeah his powers... he has shadow-based powers that are generally like his canonical powers (disappearing, putting people to sleep, hypnosis) but also with the addition of manipulating shadow to cause a variety of unpredictable chaos to happen. and perhaps flight/levitation, or some sort of blink/shadow travel ability... but no turning into a bat. also he has perhaps some kind of life force draining powers bc id like him to be called nightplague … which he thought was a stupid name but society gave him it anyways … he wanted to be called “fangZ,” with a Z (or Kaos (chaos) with a K), which he thought was SO cool and ranted to his ex-girlfriend and anyone who would listen about it extensively….. 😑 also as a supervillain he looked like zoga from captain yajima (worthikids animation)

angouleme was a henchman and goon of minor supervillain nightingale, she defects from him and thinks her career is over and (obviously the hansa are all superheroes) but regis would b a reformed supervillain and shed be like COME ONNNN BE EVIL W ME… you’re all going to say wow maj Another au in which angouleme is the one to recognize regis from the past and is like “you were that really crazy evil guy SHOW ME YOUR WAYS” and he has to explain to her that being an evil problem to society isnt a good career goal…….. and shes like ok . but i want to be rich and cause problems. she offers to henchman for him about a dozen times before he is forced to explain in strict terms that he is never going to go back to that life ever. and she’s like. ok well can you at least blow something up with your powers. can we at least have an explosion here.

zoltan would be some guy on a road trip with his friends and parrot…… i think he would be but like . im thinking (stupidly) that this is set in the US so i imagined he meets geralt & co were offroading but met with zoltan who was driving an RV full of his friends and they stopped and picked the hitchhikers up. zoltan obv wears hawaiian shirt during this.

emhyr is the ceo of the company that wants to kidnap ciri for her powers. the aen elle are also superheroes but everyone thinks they disbanded and disappeared. the lodge of sorceresses are comprised of ‘patron’ superheroes who come from different cities which are under each of their protection.

i don’t have interest in fleshing this out further but i wanted to post this silly thing for archival purposes :) and so you will know what i am talking about if i mention “superhero au”

FYMB updates: spring animes and dandelions and flowers and weird yaois etc

Happy spring! So far...

... it has just been weird for the most part. I mean, we got the virus, we're still living, although, Skip Beat! translation gods hasn't updated the next chapter, we're still fighting, i mean, we are slaves to that manga, so, yeah, so far, it has been okay. Pat yourself on the back, unless you're a tumblr post engine which doesn't automatically capitalize the first letter of the start of the sentence, you're pretty much better. lol. anyway, i digress.

We all know that the winter animes are done and streamed, and I'm gonna be honest, I didn't watch the whole damn list. and also, yes, I didn't watch Attack on Titan. Me and AOT doesn't mix. It doesn't work. Let me tell you why. It freakin scares me to death. The atmosphere of that kind of anime is the atmosphere that I do not enjoy. I dont care if my life is boring. lol. i remember that time when I started it's ep 1 years ago, few minutes done and I am out. I pretty much know the premise of it, and respect that many people loved it, but I dont like it because it wont make me feel better after I finish watching an episode. that's why maybe, just maybe, i'll find a time to start watching the first ep again and give it a try. but dont quote me on that.

Black clover ended too and it saddens me that it's not sure if there's gonna be a new season, or it got cancelled. I talked to you guys about telling something about Yuno after the anime is done so here's my 2 cents, that maybe some of the readers and watchers had been thinking already. Yuno's character has been bugging me since he was revealed as prince of another kingdom. Sure, he can be beauty and grace. sure, he can be the vice captain of the strongest wizard group in clover. sure, he can have the wind sylph. Sure, he can be the fuckin prince of another kingdom, but why, o, why, does he have to be the vessel of a half elf half prince royalty too at first? the character building had some holes. the hell. if the spade arc happened before the elf arc, i can understand it. but it's the other way around, it just feels so weird. one might compare yuno to Sasuke, but sasuke have a strong clan murder back story. yuno? as early as the time he got the wind spirit, he didnt resonate to me that much. the whole character of yuno was a fan service. if black clover anime ended just like that, without any plan to have a next season or movie(like those big ones are planning to have), yuno fuckin wasted my time. lol. i might as well go in a fuckin dungeon and get myself a water spirit with a devil on the side. *note: i watch as i read the manga. i know he probably trained his ass too, but the character wasnt highlighted until the spade arc, well, the anime ended before he did something splendidly. he's one of the main characters but he wasnt highlighted for the most part. i feel like maybe i havent warmed up to him yet. i mean, i love every freakin member of black bulls, and they pretty much the supports. what a lost opportunity for yuno to shine in the anime. one time yuno resonated to me was when he's in the meeting with the captains and he wanted to save his captain. that was it, and it was in the last few eps. if im an anime watcher only, i couldnt care less what he's thinking. asta is gonna be trained by his vice captain who btw is friends with a lot of demons. why am i going to care about yuno? i am talking about the anime experience. if in manga, he'll partner with asta and fight a good fight, it sure will be interesting.

next topic! So, as you noticed, i am currently binge watching Sk8 the infinity, and i love it to bits. underground skating is super cool in this anime. I like the politics, the dark side outside of the underground skating. very intriguing to see how the two worlds collide, adam's 2 worlds, with that police chick on his back. now, don't get me wrong, i like Langa, but hell, Reki's character have some struggles. although, i am more invested in adam's story than reki's. adam is such a damaged soul. it's gonna end at ep 12 and i feel like the story needed to have a season 2. any news about it?

new spring animes are here and i am ready. i mean, might as well watch anime before we all die, isnt it? lol. just kidding. now, i've been reading manga and it's common for me to see mangas i've read years ago and i've forgotten popping anime adaptations these past few days. one anime i've started watching is IT'S TOO SICK TO CALL THIS LOVE. if you want some spring anime that include an adult man liking and borderline obsessed to a high school girl, ok, it sounded creepy, but you'll know what i mean if you watch it. lol. it's cute.

although, i wont recommend watching MARUDASE KINTARO OVA for people who doesnt like yaoi or bl at all. do not watch this. lol. it's a comedy censored yaoi, and it's like 8 minutes long. it's pretty familiar to me too so maybe i read this one as well ahemmm back from my weird years.

lol. i maybe will do a separate post for censored comedy hentai anime that is hentai in manga, but let me just rant for a bit. it's always so disappointing when an anime who is sexy and clearly hentai or hentai in manga posing to be just ecchi with censorship. can these companies just tell if their animes are hentai or not, and if not, please just cut the hentai scenes. and if it's hentai, acknowledge it as a hentai, blurred the dang thing, and just purely made it a hentai. maybe i just dont like being teased, dudes, and maybe because i hate hentai animes that passed on as ecchi and the comedy is being highlighted. i love the uncensored censored of redo of healer with the boobs bare, but i hate animes which are pretty much made to be just ecchis when their manga is pure hentai.

Moriarty the patriot part 2 started streaming and hell, of course, i will continue watching it. I love Sherlock Holmes, as you all know. although, this very demanding side of me wants different. the SH universe has been used a hundred times. it has been spinned, adapted, inspired from, copied, drawn etc. The crime lover part of me wants something new. if you read my tags, i said that Japan loves Sherlock Holes, and hell, i mean it because they do. too much. Detective conan although have a spin on it does take a lot of inspiration from SH. every detective stories, mangas i read had some inspiration from SH. it has been milked for ideas. it saddens me sometimes when i started a detective story and it's obviously is inspired by SH. i am so thirsty of a good detective story that isnt in any way, shape or form similar to SH, similar to the cases, similar to the duo, and hell, villains similar to Moriarty. idk watching demyx makes me think I get the feeling he knows more than what he puts on and if Luxu managed to get into the orginization what makes you think the MoM wasn’t keeping close watch from within the fact demyx kept emphasizing he’s the least expected to be on radar for anything suspicious made me put him at the top of my list 🤔🤔🤔

Honestly this reminds me of back in 2012 after DDD, I said “Yo I think Demyx is gonna be a nort! He knew from the beginning that nobodies have hearts” and I remember being shut down with that theory. So take THAT rude youtube comment from 2012!!

I’m still not quite sold on the Demyx being MoM, but I’m not against the theory either. The reason why I’ve yet to jump onto the Demyx is MoM train is because while from Demyx’s side, the theory looks promising, I believe that from the MoM side, there are things set in place that don’t quite line up with the theory. Either way, let’s play with it a bit:

The thing about the “Demyx is actually MoM” theory and how it’s affected by the confirmed “Xigbar is actually Luxu” reality is that now, the possibility of this theory can go two ways. One way, that Nomura already used the “suspicious character is actually of major importance” trope and thus wants to avoid using it a second time. The second way, is that Xigbar-while he actually is luxu- is still, in a way, a distraction, so that we are so focused on his big role that we glance over another character. Clearly, the attempt of Xigbar being a distraction didn’t work, as I’ve seen the “Demyx could be MoM” theory pop up a LOT since KH3′s epilogue came out.

((this actually came out longer then expected so I’m finally putting an analysis on this blog under a read-more lmaoo))

From Demyx’s side:

No matter what, we know what Demyx can use the keyblade, thanks to the revelation from Xemnas. However, we don’t know if he and Luxord are dandelions like Marluxia and Larxene, as they’ve yet to appear in KHUX. And we can’t forget that it’s still possible for current people to use keyblades, like Axel and Riku. I feel like it’s important to distinguish that just because Demyx and Luxord are worthy of the keyblade and are in the organization, that does not confirm they are dandelions or from the Age of Fairytales in general. Taking this into account, we also have to be careful that any future indication of Demyx using the keyblade is not necessarily the same as Demyx being the MoM. So for future KH material, let’s take that into account.

But that’s for the future. Let’s talk about the now and the past.

Demyx and MoM do share a lot of personality traits, but I remember the same thing being said about Xigbar and MoM. Still, for debates sake, let’s address these. As I said earlier, Demyx knows about nobodies having hearts as he states so before fighting Sora in Hollow Bastion in KH2. This may be a throw away line, or it only started out as one, and is now something Nomura would like to touch on in the future with Demyx’s character. In this same scene, we have a silly character who panics at the idea of work. But then he suddenly gets his act together with “Silence, traitor.” There’s also his line in KH3 of “I can be imposing... when I want to be.” MoM shared a similar character trait of overall being silly (but let’s note that he wasn’t necessarily lazy like demyx) and taking a sudden serious tone. 

We can also talk about the similarities between Demyx and Xigbar: one is that neither characters faded away on screen like everyone else. Xigbar’s was suspicious as hell, falling behind a wall and that’s it. Demyx, was even ever seen again after delivering Ansem to Ienzo -or when Xemnas revealed Demyx and Luxord could use the keyblade, i can’t remember which cutscene came second. Either way, the fact that we have no clue what happened to him raises suspicion. Demyx sits in a weird place. He was benched like Vexen. Vexen was able to regain himself (he has green eyes in KH3′s ending when waking up Namine) without us ever actually killing him, so it’s possibly that Demyx was able to do the same. And it’s possible we never see Demyx in KH3′s ending because his level of importance is [currently] equal to that of Luxord, who, even though we DID fight, we never see him in the ending either. So Demyx and his current canon position sits between Vexen (not being beat by sora) and Luxord (not being seen in the ending).

From Master of Masters’s side:

We, of course, don’t know exactly what happened to the MoM. All we know is that he “vanished, dimmed, andfaded” without a trace. From the current Kingdom Hearts logic that we know of, there are a few options of what this annoyingly vague phrase is referring to:

MoM time traveled to the future (either without a body like Ansem SoD, or with a body like YX)

MoM waited in a different realm OR worldline. Note realm and worldline are two different things. realm refers to the Realm of Darkness or Sleeping Realm, and then worldline refers to something similar to where the Dandelions went to. I’m assuming that when people are suspicious of Demyx, it’s that he’s in a similar situation to that of Braig, and that Demyx’s body was overtaken by the heart of MoM. But it’s this exact theory that I believe goes against what we know about MoM.

Why would the MoM give Luxu his keyblade and box, and then do exactly what Luxu did and watch over the ages himself? They Gazing Eye exists so that the MoM can still see the future, while not necessarily being there. Otherwise, it’s completely redundant, no?

The MoM wasn’t even sure if he would disappear- which is in-and-of itself something extremely interesting. The MoM can see the future, so why did he say "I might disappear one day” and that it’s “anyone’s guess right now” (he said those to Aced). If the MoM was only going to jump vessel to vessel, only to end up in Demyx’s body, it sounds a lot more definite, in my opinion.

However, there is the option that as a heart, he traveled to the future, and then took over Demyx’s body. But even then, Luxu states that everything with Xehanort, the reenactment of the keyblade war, the summoning of the foretellers, all of THAT was to bring back the MoM. If the MoM just time traveled to the future to then possessed Demyx, then all of Luxu’s role was a complete waste.

Watership Down thoughts, sorry!

i feel like there were so many great and powerful scenes in the Watership Down BBC series that i missed out on solely because i couldnt tell the characters apart some of the times. =‘(

Hawkbit, Dandelion, Holly, Bluebell and Blackberry were the worst for me, since depending on the lighting, nearly any two of these could be mistaken for another. Thethuthinnang and Nettle too had big moments that were lost on me because I wasn’t sure who was who. Some of their voices sounded a bit too similar for me too, especially Bluebell and Hawkbit, who both talked about does enough for me to not be sure of their traits. 

I think I would have loved it a lot more if I could tell them more apart. I sort of had this problem with the other movie too, but that one wasn’t as character focused as this one is, so getting them mixed up a few times wasn’t as bad because I didn’t really NEED to keep track of them. But here, each character has a bit of an arc, so to really get the emotional payback, you have to be able to follow each of their journeys. And I had a hard time with that since I couldn’t keep track of who was who.@_@  

But that could just be me not paying attention or being bad at telling characters apart. I think if I rewatch it a bunch more times and get the hang of who is who, then I will be able to enjoy it more. 

Also, Watership Down is one of the last stories I’d expect to see a sappy love subplot thrown in (because they’re very much animals and don’t have a lot of romantic feelings in the book). In the book and other movie, it felt natural. The “love interests”  didn’t say sappy things to each other because they pretty much just met each other. They had respect for each other and counted on each other.. But here it’s so jarring to hear them say all these cheesy lines to each other. 

Keehar was kinda..... eh? He was supposed to have a strong accent and be a bit hard for the rabbits to understand, since he was a bird and they were rabbits. I didn’t feel like Keehar earned that slow motion scene. But I’m really happy they showed more of Bigwig and Keehar’s friendship. 

idk it might be a nit-pick, but i felt like there were too many dramatic or inspirational speeches. Like... you dont have to remind us how much you went through, or how much you suffered, or how determined you are. we spent 3+ hours learning this about you. some of the inspiriing moments didnt feel earned or came across as being overly cheesy. not that there’s anything wrong with being cheesy, but it seemed to want to take itself seriously? idk. 

idk this bothered me and might not bother anyone else, but at the end, Hazel and Fiver are talking and one of them thanks the other for their “friendship”. I mean.... i guess it makes sense, but its a bit odd to me? they’re brothers. 

I think I saw too many posts on here that made me expect Bluebell and Blackberry to be 100% confirmed gay, so that lead to me being disappointed because I’m not sure if it was?????? I can see why people think so. I don’t want to crush any dreams, but I also don’t want others to go in expecting definite representation. idk. im not the best at noticing romance stuff so it might just be me not getting it. Maybe they did 100% confirm it and i freaking missed it. 

But there was a lot to like too. I liked seeing some of the characters who hadn’t been featured yet. 

A small detail but I LOVE how Bigwig seems to have a permanent little rabbit smirtk on his face. It’s so perfect. 

I loved how “brother” and “sister” were used. There was a nice moment where one character distrusts another, then later on helps them and calls them “brother/sister” (being vague with gender to avoid spoilers, sorry!)  and it was a nice touch. 

I loved Fiver, Bigwig and Hyzenthflay’s voice actors the best. They did soooo well in making the characters feel real. Hyzenthflay especially, since i ADORED her voice in the other movie. They really fit the characters! 

It was an interesting change to have one character go to Efrafa, who didn’t in the book. I thought there was some cool character stuff going on for them and those around them. But Woundwort’s “be my queen” thing was icky. It was like... really? we’re doing THIS? Instead of this cool potential between two unlikely characters, it’s just gonna be this? But it was still cool to see that change. I wish it was given MORE depth though. Like... did the character regret running away from their safer home? They joined this ragtag group of rabbits chasing an ideal, and it lead them to basically the worst place for a bunny to be! I don’t know if they ever stopped to think “if I never left, I wouldn’t be in this horrible place”. Sure the character’s theme was “hope” but i feel like it would have been MUCH more impactful if that was challenged by the character themselves. Like if the character didn’t just hnag onto it, but stopped to really question themselves. Then come to the same conclusion, but this time it is stronger since they ran it through their mind some instead of just .... having it. IDK but it was still nice! :D 

The singing scene was beautiful! 

The opening of the first episode was beautiful. inspired by the movie, while also making it its own. 

They made the marking scenes much more intense. O_O 

I liked how they included the Shapes. I also liked Fiver’s vision from that area too. 

THE TWO ESCAPES BEING SHOWN AT THE SAME TIME WAS SO INTENSE I LOVED IT!!!!! 

I’m glad Bigwig said the whole phrase to Woundwort! 

I wouldn’t recommend watching this without first having read the book, or getting used to the fictional rabbit language. They use a lot of phrases and I’m guessing it could be very confusing to people who aren’t familiar with the terms. They mostly do a good job calling something by its word in the language the movie is in, before calling it by the fictional rabbit word. Not always though, so it might be confusing or tricky to fill in the gaps. 

And if I live the rest of my life without seeing a cgi rabbit making kissy faces, I think I’ll survive.

cw for im gonna talk abt pet death and sadness and everything im feeling rn so yea

my husky went through a surgery yesterday (nothing really wrong, just needed to get her chips and no babies)) and i got nightmares just knowing that she wasn’t with me and now shes still drugged up so shes laying on the floor and can’t recognize really anything. she wont eat or drink anything, and ik shes okay because everything with the vet went fine but nothing feels right. shes usually so energetic and her tail is always wagging but ik for the next few days she’ll be in lots of pain. i hope she can bounce back to her “original self” because ik our other husky never really did. but i need my dog, i need my dog more than anything because i lose my mnd when i cant see her. 

it reminds me of when my guinea pig died. i didnt take the best care of her. but she died in my hands. we buried her in teh backyard and everyday after school i’d sit down and talk to her. i kept one of her toys in my bag to hold whenever i felt like shit. i cant take this kind of stuff. it hurts thinking that now i cant really visit her grave again. the people who live there now probably dont know why the grass near the shed is so long or why theres so many old dandelions laid in rows. or carrots. luna loved carrots. i miss her. im scared to miss my dog man. its making me cry i just want to hug her but shes in the living room wiht everyone else right now. 

i’ve only “had” one dog before now. her name was gracie, found at my dad’s girlfriends work. she only ate burgers and shit, but was really sweet. she died, about a year ago. i guess i forgot she could because after dads girlfriend left, she took gracie. she was a cute dog, followed me around and slept in my bed. pretty chunky, wiht a flat back. i dont know. i love dogs. this post is sad. goodnight.

which characters are trans this is a scientific inquiry

all of them except vilgefortz and leo bonhart

ok ok jokes, ill go more in depth... some of this is taken from things ive written before but not posted. also for anyone reading this im non bee nary so know that im not trying to describe the experiences of different identities in first-person, i’m basing this off of both my own and my friends’ experiences... none of this is “OMG YES CHARACTER ANGST >:))” but rather depicting personal struggles in fictional characters, so just know that  the more difficult subjects that may be covered are not there just to see the character in pain, but rather to think about their eventual resilience against it and development afterwards

for geralt and yennefer i have more specific reasons why i think being transgender actually fits with their canonical characters & related story arcs, and then for the rest i have headcanons and maybe some reasoning but not a lot.

geralt: geralt already represents how a struggle with toxic masculinity and expectations of masculinity can influence one who wants to be seen as masculine to deny and bury their emotions. him being trans develops upon the aspect of his struggle with emotions, ive seen my friends who are transmasculine / myself when i used to ID as transmasculine struggle with showing emotions bc of feeling like you’re going to be misgendered if you shed a single tear. in canon, we already learn that kaer morhen has a bit of a macho culture (just fyi eskel and lambert and coen are trans too now, don’t go getting any idea that those guys are cis) and i believe that the “witchers have no emotions” thing is like 5% actual biology and 95% being raised to fight and not to feel. vesemir is a good father but he just wasn’t very emotionally nurturing, it’s the caste’s way of raising kids that geralt breaks out of.

i think geralt’s self-image also speaks a lot to the feelings of harsh internal transphobia. he constantly others himself from others and feels like people view him as different, which is metaphorical for any marginalized group under the sun, but also is very common for lgbt ppl. again this is smth ive really struggled with within the past few years so im just projecting/know what it feels like and feel that how geralt sees himself in canon is similar to a view suffering from internalized transphobia.

geralt's character already redefines manhood because he has to learn what it means to be a good father. and i think him being trans would be representative of his constant learning and growth as a person, yet also somewhat involved with his self loathing and feeling like just Him Existing is an affront ... but of course he unlearns this with time and love from others and all of his character development

yennefer: yennefer’s whole backstory revolves around defining who she is and defying the people who mistreated her and told her she was nothing. canonically yennefer of vengerberg is the story of the successful self-made woman... her life as janka she would rather forget, no one calls her by that name, and no one ever would because its not who she is nor who i think she ever was. 

shes incredibly strong-willed and knows what she wanted from life but some things are terrifying to reach out for, like love and acceptance. yennefer has a conflict with love and being loved because that was never a safe topic for her ... (also sapkowski handled this specifically poorly imo, but:) yennefer canonically struggles with being loved for who she is. i think she deals so much with her previous abuse and again, expectations from parents, and coming to terms with the fact that she survived it all. also this isnt even touching upon her arc regarding motherhood. wanting to give a child your everything and everything that you never had... the love and kindness that no one gave you...

ciri: ciri hesitated to ever identify with “girl” or “boy,” she’s also i think the representation of childhood in general, she’s naturally curious about gender presentation as she ages and just never really cares to commit to gender. i think she’d say she was a girl but only reluctantly bc she just doesn’t care much.

ok in a more serious context i think he’s a nonbinary guy, i think him being trans might explain why he has way more friendships than relationships with family members. dandelion, like yennefer, is also someone that had to define who he was for himself, i mean for one his stage persona of dandelion is entirely an artist’s creation/hyperbole of himself, i think he also had to think abt his inner identity too

his gender is also just “your friend that comes to your house and eats all ur chips and drinks all ur beer and passes out on top of you on the couch”

milva: ok unfortunately i currently think milva is the token non-trans friend (she’s nonbinary just doesnt think of herself as trans) but it’s only because her major arc in baptism of fire revolves around her pregnancy and miscarriage and just bc she is not trans doesn’t mean she doesn’t go through her own difficult struggling process surrounding her womanhood. she struggles enormously throughout the series and in her backstory with defining herself between two rigid identities: the feminine maria and the cutthroat milva. in her talk with geralt, she reveals how she feels trapped between these two identities and feels like they cannot coexist. i feel like she’s a nonbinary/gender non-conforming butch* lesbian whose struggles with sexuality intersect her struggles with gender and what it means to her to be a gnc woman. also you have to consider that milva was raised in a small village in lower sodden so she understood gender in the very strict roles ascribed to men and women, so she felt like she couldn’t be a woman unless she was this very traditional idea of what a woman is “supposed to be like,” which she’s both been trying to shape herself to be and also running away from simultaneously. she learns to accept herself within the hansa bc they love and support her for who she is, and she doesn’t need to be strictly feminine or masculine to be understood by them

* i know the terms nonbinary and gnc and butch didn’t exist in the 1260s tyvm, i’m just saying this as how i interpret her in a modern context

regis: gender is a human sociological construct so basically don’t ask him unless you’re prepared to listen for 20 minutes. vampires can exist noncorporeally so they can exist without gender, also i hc the telepathic vampiric language is nongendered as it’s a transmission of pure thought, will, and force, so it doesn’t even use any grammar. i also hc that vampires just appear the way they feel in terms of appearance and age (e.g., regis at around 300 when he died still looked 25 bc he was as stupid as a 25 year old, now he’s calmer and understands more, so he looks middle-aged). when chilling out with humans regis will be referred to as a man bc that’s just how he appears but it’s an identity he had to learn about and adopt, not something he was assigned. most vampires look androgynous anyways bc they just feel androgynous, how are you gonna feel a gender when you don’t know what a gender is... if you HAD to understand him with human labels / put it in a modern context (like if i was making an modern real life AU) i’d say he’s a nonbinary trans man. 

cahir: much like geralt i think cahir’s story is one of living up to expectations, but cahir’s actually takes it a step further because his major motivation in his backstory is trying to prove to his mother that he can be a good son that will make her proud and gain honor for the family... he seeks validation from external sources but faces ruin when he learns that war is not the way to prove one’s prowess and skill

angouleme: shes trans and i simply say so bc shes very cool and funny and i dont think a cis person could be this cool and funny. also i think the story of a runaway teen who was abandoned by her biological family and found solace in a new family is both very good and featured in a lot of trans ppl’s narratives. she kind of exudes this “im finally at a point in my life where i’m safe and cared for, i can start HRT now, let’s gooOOoooOOooo” energy.

I feel you friend - from what we've got already, whatever they're doing to Dandelion/Jaskier seems... not ideal, to put it gracefully, and it pains me quite a bit, but if/when they get to Regis... considering the pain in my heart during some parts of b&w, having in mind that I generally believe cdpr's interpretation to be proper (aside from some jarring mistakes) it's going to be a completely another level of ridiculousness on my part; like,, I know it's most probably not possible for the show to meet my standards, but pls... just... get SOMETHING right...

I came to feel so protective of this particular vampire, and people not familiar with the books knowing him as a caricature of himself fills me with dread

tbh my main hope for regis if/when they get to him is that they don’t shy away from making him complicated. he’s kind, also ominous, also funnie … to summarize: shitty old bitch. 

b&w did this thing where they just made regis a very solemn character and also made him closer to the typical arrogant immortal which was just ooc imho... and then they created a new plotline that revolved around him being Uncontrollably Violent for a few seconds which.......... like i just found it SO disrespectful to how regis’s backstory is an analogy for alcoholism/addiction in general........ they literally did the opposite of humanizing him, they uh... monsterfied him? 

regis’s entire character (like geralt’s, and also the rest of the hansa’s) is about paradox and logistical impossibilities. if you’re this, you can’t be that -- but he’s both, for some fucking reason, he defies logic. 

regis is supposed to thread this weird line of what is man and what is monster, and if you’re kind for a century does that make up for three centuries of absolute cruelty? what does it mean to act honorably? at what point can you feel safe and trust someone? 

one thing i appreciate about regis’s character is that he’s always just seemed to go BEYOND his context in the fictional world he exists in. at the end of the day, these characters are not the people we love them to be, but rather messages about what ARE good and evil, what IS humanity, and other deep questions the witcher loves to tackle. within the books, i got a VERY clear sense of how regis as a character was answering these questions and the kind of messages sapkowski was trying to communicate with him. same with the rest of the hansa, in fact. that’s... why... the hansa and ciri and yennefer are my favorites...

to contrast, in blood & wine, i didn’t get this sense of existing beyond the context of the media at all. cdpr just wanted cool vampires which is fine, but the elements of the books are lost because they just gave them up

(wow this got long sorry! i just wanted to explain my thought process behind this list im about to give) 

as for netflix.............. i don’t necessarily think that regis is easy or difficult to cover. but IN MY OPINION nailing these things would help out regis’s character the best:

we should feel safe. one of the things that struck me so hard when reading baptism of fire was how much i initially trusted regis when they found him in that stupid graveyard, despite being well-familiar with the adage of “stranger danger.” he just seemed safe to me. 

this is probably because of how eloquent he is and how omniscient he has the ability to come off as..... so good writing for his dialogue that captures his superfluous nature, that isn’t just what cdpr did where “funny smart guy use big words unnecessarily” ... no, you need to put effort into it by having him use words of an intermediate vocabulary, but using them in such a way as to philosophize about everything and anything that comes up. 

this also relies heavily on how regis delivers his lines when they first meet him. all of his dialogue cues are like, “said softly,” “said gently.” there’s NO aggression, no harm in this man. no reason to fear him.

the atmosphere of his cottage should really communicate this wonderful sense of bucolic bliss, as it were.... the intoxicating heavy scent of herbs... the only lighting in the cottage being fro a pot-bellied stove........ remember, geralt describes this as having could have come directly from a fairytale. in contrast, fen carn should feel ominous, until his appearance.

costume design! don’t forget the apron wrapped around his black coat, please! who can fear a man in an apron?

we should feel suspicious. we SHOULD still feel like he’s harboring some kind of dark secret, though. 

there are so many little clues and points in baptism of fire that hint at his identity, that just should NOT be cut out or overlooked: him being able to detect the healing brokilon medicines in geralt’s sweat, when he refuses the drink politely and says softly, “it’s a matter of principle. i never violate the principles i set for myself,” the dipping into a conversation to name every type of vampire that exists......... the sense that he knows just a little too much to be only who he says he is.

cahir and dandelion making guesses as to who he ‘really’ is shouldn’t be cut out, either. i think their guesses are conduits for the audience to attach onto as we make our own guesses and theories within this short amount of time.

we should feel fear. oh so cdpr wanted crazy ass vampires? well don’t worry, because regis is a crazy ass vampire. but how to get this through to the audience, when he’s not off his shits anymore because it’s the 13th century and not the 9th? it’s going to need to come mostly from geralt. 

they should emphasize the tension in the scene by the yaruga where geralt has his blade to regis’s throat by having geralt’s lines be delivered in a very precise, careful manner. he shouldn’t be furious and dripping with adrenaline, ready to fight regis. he needs to be wary, conserved. we need to sense apprehension to engage in conflict, because he knows that he would likely lose the fight... which will freak the audience out, because asides from that bit with djikstra, geralt up until this point has been pretty powerful and undefeated, i mean we just saw him cleave his way through a fuckton of scoiatel at thanedd (that bit with torque in edge of the world was more for comedic relief imho)

on a related note, the scene where milva and dandelion have doubts about regis and ask geralt for advice, and geralt answers with a laundry list of all the things regis can do and says for himself that he doesn’t know if he could kill him....... that shouldn’t be cut and should strike some fear into our hearts.

regis shouldn’t be devoid of humor. he has his own sense of weird humor...

please keep the fucking pun in: “the immortal soul (...) abandons the stinking carcass and spirits away, forgive the pun.” i think this demonstrates how he has this kind of skewed sense of humor, that serious philosophical topics aren’t dull to him... rather they are exciting and full of riveting debate and also, jokes

that really long conversation with geralt where he concludes with “but i’ll give you some advice anyways: life differs from banking somewhat,” and in the fish soup scene where he really makes fun of geralt as well... but really the whole company should do this

don’t make him an asshole

he should be self-sacrificing for humanity. he should protect the girl in the refugee camp with the utmost conviction... i think this part is kind of easier because regis’s pure actions in the books are enough to demonstrate how committed to humanity he is, unlike cdpr which just made shit up and it went sour because their shit was all like “oh haha humans are so weak and i dont get why they dislike death :/”

tldr: don’t cut shit because even the smallest details add to the larger picture, make a cool atmosphere, paradox of safety and fear. you’re welcome
