Soooooo... I watched The 15 minute Job last night.
I have the utmost respect for Eliot Spencer and Parker. (To express your concerns and then be dismissed? Yeah. I'd walk away too.)
I'm kinda getting annoyed with Nate though. It's almost like he's devolving. Like he doesn't know who he is or what his purpose is. Or maybe I'm more annoyed with Sophie- because she's not doing anything to stop him. Like, Nate is treating Eliot like he doesn't have any freewill. That he's owned by Nate.
And that's not true. It's not. I don't like it. I don't wike it.

in ur tags on the post about how the whole fandom relates to quentin.. would you elaborate on ur thoughts (if you want)? bc i really agree but i can't exactly put it into words
hello!! thanks to you and everyone else who takes the time to read & respond to my tags, which is in fact my GREATEST dream as a blogger.
(Note: this ended up being…a lot longer than i meant. sorry?)
Anyways, while this is my first time really engaging with fandom, I have been on this godforsaken website since 2011 and have been on the sidelines for MANY a fandom, so I feel pretty confident in saying what I’m about to say: the magicians fandom has a very specific tenor, largely due to 1) being relatively small and 2) the fact that everybody here identifies with quentin coldwater.
This show attracts a very specific audience, and that is an audience that identifies with quentin coldwater, a.k.a. a bunch of people who are queer, depressed/dealing with various mental health issues, and emotionally immature former gifted students who hyperfixate on fantasy as a means of escape. And that in turn creates the fandom experience, both the good and the bad!
Let’s do the bad (not good? mostly neutral?) first, so we can get it out of the way and leave y’all with a good taste in your mouth. (For the record, most of this isn’t actually bad so much as lightly annoying. a minor flaw, if you will.):
-This fandom hyperfixates! This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it can be overwhelming at times how one track mind-y it can get. (For example: Todd. like back when people were theorizing that he was eliot’s brother? I never got that. Tbh, there have been times where I was a little afraid to type the words “actually, I don’t care that much about Todd.”)
-The overwhelming presence of queliot, to the point where it’s hard to find anything else. Once again, not a bad, and i realize there are very valid reasons for this, but you can’t deny that it’s a everywhere. Idk, normally my main ship is a minor one globally speaking, so it’s kinda weird to me some days that queliot is the end all be all of this fandom.
-We overidentify with the characters & therefore get irrationally over defensive, which leads into the next point:
-i dont think i’ve ever seen legitimate criticism of quentin from anyone, except maybe @coldwaughters ? (who as per usual is doing god’s work over there bringing a different perspective to the table.) We all, myself included, tend to woobie-fy quentin because we all identify with/love him so much that we want him to be above reproach!
-For me, the one serious flaw is that at times this fandom can seem pretty cliquey, which i think is because a lot of us are on here as a means of escape and to get affection and validation so….people clique VERY HARD as a way to feel accepted and then we end up with a kind of echo chamber situation.
Now on to the good, which in my opinion far outweighs the bad! :
-This probably goes without saying, but there is some really lovely open discussion of mental health stuff. I think this fandom can act as a safe space in the best sense of the words because everyone here has been/is going through Some Stuff, and wants to help however they can. One of the core messages of this show is, I think, “Just because you are traumatized doesn’t mean it’s okay to lash out at others; you can be hurt and still try to help and be kind” and the fandom has taken that to heart, or at least tries to.
-I haven’t seen fanworks organization on this level since, like, homestuck circa 2012. and the degree to which collaboration is encouraged! swoon. There are so many organized fan challenges, and @neitherlandslibrary and @themagiciansreccenter are INCREDIBLE resources the likes of which I’ve rarely seen even in the largest of fandoms. And people actually participate in these challenges! shout out to all of you for being incredible!
-this fandom is so incredibly, INCREDIBLY supportive. Now im gonna say something a little mean, but bear with me, okay? I think a lot of the stuff (my stuff included!) produced for this show (art, fic, etc.) is not that particularly impressive. But here’s the thing: people like and compliment and promote these works anyways. And I think that is 100% tied to the fact that we all know what it’s like to feel damaged in some way, and we want to alleviate that feeling in others, even in the tiniest of ways. And this is such a powerful and beautiful aspect of this fandom! People interact with each other, people encourage strangers!
Fun fact: I hadn’t willingly written anything since approximately the fifth grade. Joining this fandom and seeing people like and compliment works that would have been panned in other fandoms is what gave me the confidence to start writing fic! And that attitude, i think, leads to a whole lot of creative inspiration and artistic output that wouldn’t occur anywhere else. Who cares if i write shitty fic? i had a fun time, and a handful of people were kind enough to read it and comment!
So maybe this fandom is a little…neurotic, a little claustrophobic, a little over-invested. Possibly it lacks critical thinking skills, and definitely shares one collective braincell. But if those things are true, it’s because these other things are true as well: people pour their hearts and souls into this fandom. they support each other and accept people as they are. people here try. it’s as simple as that.

can i just im so glad that im not the only one that found this episode super underwhelming and dragged out, like the plot important bits lasted for like 15 min or smth
Oh yeah honey, you’re 100% not alone in this. It felt wasted??? And there’s only two episodes left, so..idk it was missing something. The things I hoped would happen, didn’t, like Quentin didn’t talk with Margo, he didn’t even really talk with Alice if we’re being honest. I’m just bummed you know, not as enthuasiastic about the show as I’ve been. Which isn’t saying I’m gonna stop watching lol and this isn’t even about queliot honestly.
I’m used to living in fanon with other ships, so wtv happens in canon won’t even bug me much right now. That being said I actually still trust these writers (a bit), like these last two episodes better be fucking good!! And make narrative sense. They just didn’t go about this the right way lol
I understand the ppl that liked the episode, their feelings are certainly valid and make sense, I just didn’t feel the same. After last week’s episode, I just expected more, and this felt like it had too much filler.
Idk why I’m still rambling at you, I’m so sorry xD Like I’m just coming to terms with my own thoughts lol
I FUCKING MISS ELIOT WAUGH OK, AND THIS JUST NO. OK I WANT HIM BACK.
