ok so one of the things that's occurred to me reading the old Gortash/Peachtree letters is how much like Raphael Gortash sounds in those letters.

The word choice, the metaphor, the imagery... And it makes sense! It's an interesting parallel considering there's actually so little relevance otherwise to Gortash having spent his formative years in the House of Hope.

He learned how to be effective dealmaker, politician, and tyrant from the one example he witnessed first hand. Of course he did! But that means he also absorbed some of Raphael's flourishes! It reinforces BG3's major theme of cycles of abuse, of breaking them or continuing them. Like Astarion becomes Cazador 2.0 when you ascend him complete with possessive language, Gortash uses words and flirtation to effectively tempt his targets towards his own ends ie Raphael.

Otherwise, what's the fucking point of his backstory if Gortash is generic politician-archetype bbeg #45357?
