So I don't tend to read much manga, BUT: last year, I was trying to buy a copy of THAT WE MAY LIVE (an anthology from Two Lines Press) for a friend for Christmas, and Bookshop sent me the second volume of this series instead?? Which. Looked SO directly up my alley (hello: birdguy with black wings on the cover?? haunted BOOKstore?? "gateway to a parallel universe"??? yeah okay I'll bite) that instead of donating the book (like customer support said I could do, since they didn't want it back), I tracked down the first volume to give it a go, and then proceeded to mosey through them gently over a couple nights.

These were fun! They turned out to be just as Up My Alley as I hoped, they matched my current writing project vibes REALLY well, AND they were a nice break from heavy prose. Winning all around!

he's actually quite hittable, hit him he won't hit back honestly, but if you ever call him unfunny? he's weeping and rolling on the floor (as a joke) saying "YOU MAY HAVE GOTTEN A LITTLE BIT STRONGER, BUT UR SENSE OF HUMOR WILL ALWAYS BE WEAK"

he actually gets intrigued fast, just like his counterpart he is also interested in strength. considering how he got wrecked by his counterpart because of her awakening, he might actually use his time to train with you.

burning spice is all about fighting everything until there is nothing left to fight, he'll push his limits. even yours! just say when u need a break, he'll say something corny like "I expected more!" and then run off and wait until ur done doing weak cookie stuff. hes not inhumane, hes just like you. it may feel unreal be he was once just a bunch of dough until the soul jam was created.

there's definitely a noticeable difference in style/quality of some of these just due to time between each design and/or how i was feeling at the time of drawing them (these hot and rainy summer months have been super rough on me)

ALSO they were all done symmetrically so that i wouldn't burn out and could actually finish them LOL . OK EVERYBODY BELOW

starting off with asta, a husky/coyote mutt!! :D in my au, devil users end up becoming hybrids of whatever their devil is. so since liebe is a coyote, that's what asta is too!! (also, i haven't drawn him yet, but yuno is a malamute :D similar looking breeds but different since they're not actually related!)

then of course, noelle, who's a saluki!! a very regal breed for a very royal gal!! i thought making her pigtails into her ears was a fun idea HEHEHE

here's finral, he's a shetland sheepdog!! gentle and sweet and always trying to herd his people together :) you might notice that with some of my designs, i end up doing extra scarring; that's usually just personal headcanons, as i think some injuries would be too grievous to fully heal. though some (for instance, gauche) don't have a canon story behind them, i just think they're fitting

vanessa, who's a cavalier king charles spaniel!! her ears sorta blend into her hair lol, i had an alternate version where they were the same darker brown as her fur but i decided that them blending in looked better and fit the breed standard as well.

gauche, the ever wary american akita!! being a fiercely loyal and protective breed, but aloof and suspicious of strangers.

then there's grey, who's a long-haired chihuahua!! sweet and skittish HEHE, also i haven't drawn it yet but i've always imagined her big transformation disguise that she's first introduced as to be a rottweiler LOL

next up is luck, a jack russell terrier!! i've always thought this was a very fitting breed pick, intelligent but highly energetic and a little mischievous !!!

and of course, magna is never far behind luck; he's a dobermann pinscher!! similar to luck in energy and intelligence, but even more fiercely protective of his loved ones.

GORDON!!! actually one of my favourite black clover characters, he's a dalmatian not only because of the fitting aesthetic, but also because of his kind and sensitive personality!

the masked supermage zora, a german shepherd! watchful and sometimes stubborn but loyal nonetheless made this pick fairly easy to come to. though, before getting to see more of him, my initial pick was actually a kai ken!

charmy's design is one that i'm the most proud of for sure; i mentioned in an earlier post that the different peoples are different species of animals. well charmy is a half toy poodle, half american badger!! i thought a badger was a VERY fitting pick, as they are generally unbothered by much unless their food is threatened LOL

and finally, lastly (for now) is nero!! she's a bull terrier, but i really wanted to keep her twin tails from her anti-bird form! her outfit is definitely the one i edited the most, i just wanted to give her something more practical out of personal preference.

additionally, henry is an old english sheepdog, nacht is a black norwegian elkhound/fox, and yami is a wolfdog!

I HAVE SOME OTHER CHARACTERS DOODLED HERE AND THERE but nothing else really finished yet. if there's a specific character anyone would like to see i would be SO happy to draw/doodle them to show off!! i honestly have a huge list of dog/cat breeds picked out for every character i could think of; i just am hellishly indecisive and can never pick who to start on next AHDSJAGDJSDK

oh my god i nearly forgot to post this. here's my art summary for 2024! customary brick of text (including links to individual pieces) under cut.

i drew.. a lot of mcyt this year! as in "everything but April is mcyt". this is awkward because that means i dont think any of this actually ended up on this blog. i dont think i posted my pngtubers either. um. hm

pushing that aside, im really happy with how my art has evolved. ive gotten very comfortable with lineless art, and have been playing around a lot with shading, colors in general, and new brushes. (most of the brush testing didnt make it on here.) more than that, i feel like im getting better at anatomy and proportions and drawing people in general. sameface syndrome is always going to be a problem for me, but i like to think i can at least pull off different body types and thats something im going to continue messing with.

ive also been doing a lot of style switching. obv theres lined vs lineless, but also level of detail vs simplicity. i kinda do it based off mood so its not very consistent, but im fine with that rn.

the thing im most proud of is that i have a finished stand-out piece for every month (and some of them were actually hard picks). ive gotten down on myself before about whenever we hit an art slump, but even in months where we didnt draw as much we still had something that was cool we could show off.

im sorry we havent been as active on here-- again, we've been on mcyt lockdown-- but im looking forward to whatever happens next year. Rescue is still coming together, even if slowly, and we'll hopefully be able to post character design concepts. we're also considering maybe doing adoptables? we'll see.

So like what’s the deal with ghosted what’s that about

now see the deal with Ghosted is that it's not what happens within the events of the film that captivates me so much, though don't get me wrong i love this film to bits, but rather, it's the idea of what happens after the whole thing that makes me FUCKING NUTS

because the whole thing is relatively cut and dry in the sense that we don't have to guess about what happened before and we don't have to guess about how everybody is feeling in the present. we know (MOST) important characters backgrounds and what they're doing at Falkhill and slowly revealing Paul's context was pretty interesting if not a little abrupt at the end there but its the very last scene of this film down to the very frame that flips the whole hour and a half you just watched over on its head and prevents me from getting a good night's sleep because i can't stop thinking about it

ELABORATING WITH A LOT OF SPOILERS UNDER THIS

explaining the plot of this movie is hard without sounding like im writing a pretentious review and not just talking out of my ass on tumblr but for my followers who haven't watched this movie and dont care enough to: Ghosted (2011) is set in a british prison in which Jack (John Lynch) is a long time prisoner who's wife just dumped him apparently on the anniversary of their sons death (tough break) and is being advised by his friend and cellmate Ahmed (Art Malik) (who does NOT get HALF as much screen-time or plot relevance as he DESERVES,) to find something to put his mind to and be proud of outside of his failures Paul (Martin Compston) is a prisoner who was just transferred out of a Young Offenders prison AS FAR AS WE'RE TOLD... though its noticeable from the beginning that hes not a very good liar and his story is suspicious at best Clay (Craig Parkinson) is kindof The Guy of their prison wing whos dealing drugs to other prisoners and assumes the position of authority over everybody else, though compared to other inmates with bigger cliques, his foundations are shaky. the description of this film on letterboxd calls him "the wing beast" and i have never cried laughing so hard reading something in my life

Clay and Jack both hone in on Paul immediately for different reasons. Jack, after his pep talk with Ahmed, sees Paul as a source of "a little self belief, something to be proud of", but Clay scoops him under his wing for being relatively young and impressionable. This puts Jack and Clay at odds with each other. after some plot, Paul gets into very big trouble with Clay and after An Incident is promptly plopped into Jacks hands, who had requested Paul move into his cell earlier but didn't have a good enough excuse for it. Well You've Got A Bloody Good Reason Now ect ect

Jack and Paul buddy up immediately and its noticable that Paul is sort of filling in the empty space where a son would be for Jack, however we discover that Paul has been lying about his past to everybody, including Jack. he lied about his family and he lied about having only just been transferred from Y.O. and hadn't been telling the whole truth about his sentence. what the truth ends up being, in a nutshell, is that Paul is accidentally responsible for the death of Jack's son, having been the one who started the house fire he died in (we were never even told that Jack's son died in a house fire before this, we are only told this in Paul's flashback at the end of the movie and are supposed to act, like, surprised?? whatever). consequentially, Jack flips his lid and prompts my personal favorite scene in this film in which he beats the living shit out of Paul with his bare hands and immediately regrets it the second the adrenaline wears off, hitting an alarm button within the cell that alerts the guards.

the guards whisk him away and he is put in solitary confinement, which we find out was actually the first sequence of the film where hes shown with an absurdly long beard, and considering every other fucking scene he's in is of him shaving his face, i assume this is to show just how long he's been kept in solitary confinement, which quite honestly was kindof exciting to realize at the end of the film.

and then. the end scene.

after solitary, Jack is put in cuffs and brought to see Paul who looked Extremely Dead after Jack had him, but hes not dead! just almost dead. Jack is sat next to him and tries to apologize but starts to cry, reaching out a hand to hold Paul's but retracting it regretfully. Paul, having looked unconscious not five seconds before, moves his hand to place it over Jack's...

and then the movie ends. and i am left writhing on my floor in anguish BUT NOT BEFORE I EXPLAIN TO YOU THAT THIS

THIS is what the deal is with Ghosted

the pathetic gestures of "im sorry" and "its okay" are what kill me. sorry is nowhere near enough to justify anything that EITHER of them did, NOR should they be forgiven. AND YET.

and what gets my gears going is the thought of what everything looks like AFTER this scene. after they've bonded so close and after Jack already thought that Paul stopped lying to him, thinking that he could protect Paul from Clay now... after they started to fill the spaces for people they were missing in their lives... and after they've RUINED each others lives. They Have Ruined Each Others Lives and yet Paul probably would have had to DELIBERATELY ASK for them to bring Jack to see him because he just BEAT Paul within an INCH of his life and would NOT !! have brought Jack to see him upon Jack's own request!! Paul would have wanted to see him too!! after all this what does their relationship look like now... the image of father and son has been all but shattered in each other's eyes, one can assume, but are they still close... does the guilt and responsibility drift them apart or does it pull them inseparably together? Ahmed tells Jack that "there is no such thing as coincidence, only fate" but what does their fate look like... does it end here or does it mean that they're together indefinitely? the end of this film swings the door wide open and i think about it. way too often. unacceptably often, even.

all in all theres no reason that this should be my favorite film but it is. if nothing else it's made me look into the other actors involved and branch out with a to-watch list as long as my arm that will only get longer once i branch out from there. is it the perfect movie? no this film is mediocre at best. have i made a number of my friends sit down and watch it and listen to me yell incoherently about it? of course i have.

Antje ist endlich wieder entliebt 🥳 aber dass Weber in ihr Zimmer kommt, sich so ausführlich umschaut, dass er die Liebeszauber-Kerzen findet und sie auch noch fragt, warum sie denn abgeschlossen hatte, fand ich wieder sehr unangenehm. Was ist mit Privatsphäre? Gibt's das nicht auf dem Internat?

Die Einstein- und die Dorf-Jungs spielen Basketball gegeneinander und als die Mädels sagen, dass sie auch mitspielen wollen, sind die Jungs super überdramatisch. Bisschen witzig ist das schon 😄 liebs aber, wie die Mädels beider Seiten sich zusammentun, um sicher zu gehen, dass die Jungs beider Seiten sie in die Mannschaften lassen. I'm so proud. You go girls! 🥹 (Und ich bin jetzt schon bisschen traurig, dass man Tine so selten mit den Internatsmädels sieht. Das ist so wholesome. Im Dorf muss sie sich immer durchbeißen...)

rpg horror story time lets go

played Pathfinder early this year with three friends (one of them the GM) and one person who was friends with one of the other three. extinction curse, were part of a traveling circus i fucking loved the premise, fucking adored the characters

we do our session zero, we discuss lines and veils, make bonds between the characters, decide that we don't want characters to die for no reason and that it has to be negotiated, you know the drill

first session hits and everything is fun and exciting, were doing our first circus act already, we tangle with a group of ruffians trying to heckle our show, my character accidentally cuts someone a little but it's fine, we can deal with the problems that result from this as they come up

or so i thought. cue: friend of a friend, i'll call them XYZ problem is, they had a bad experience with pathfinder in the past that apparently scarred them the only other person who knew this was their friend, who also didn't tell us

XYZ gets upset because they didnt get to prevent a bad roll. we end up spending 40(!!) minutes on calming them down and the gm basically lets them roll over and over until they succeed at whatever the thing was

the next week we dont play. XYZ has an appointment and tells us like an hour-ish prior to the session happening that we can't play. alright then, shit ettiquette but it's whatevs GM tells me they're glad the session isn't happening because they're anxious about the game

next game we only play an hour and a half, and nothing happens on account on 90 minutes being very little time for an rpg session

game #3, player tells me theyre trying to give XYZ the spotlight so they don't get frustrated i get a total of 6 sentences during that 3 hour session and completely dissociate out of the game say nothing about it, but im legitimately thinking about quitting at that point

next game is short again, 60 minutes, and nothing happens

final session, session 5. we continue to investigate the death of our circus director, search his wagon for stuff, other player looks elsewhere and gets attacked by these snake enemies combat starts in an awkward spot because the single player gets punted pretty bad before they manage to run towards us we engage in combat and the snakes roll really well (this was in Foundry, so it wasnt fudged in the monsters' favour) and it's looking like they might whoop our asses we start to talk about how we'll just have the snakes leave again, because we agreed that deaths should have meaning in the story XYZ is starting to lose it already and starts to rant about pathfinder we talk about how we can just level up a bit earlier to try and prevent a situation like this from happening again shit happens right? it's low-level pathfinder, the game is deadlier at early levels

doesn't help XYZ is now in full-on meltdown about the wipe a thing that shouldn't be a big deal, but somehow is. the game is a trainwreck at this point

i try to save it for some reason and in an attempt to lighten the mood, i make a funny remark directed at the GM what is XYZ's reaction?

"fuck you anna fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck you go fuck yourself fuck you anna fuck you"

this should have been me leaving right then and there, blocking this person and never talking to them again instead, i stupidly suggest we play a round of quiplash, so not everybody goes out of the session pissed and frustrated, and we play a round or maybe two im losing badly. my sense of humor is one of the things im proud of and im losing badly. last place at the end of it, i think i won one round total throughout the quiplash thing, XYZ is winning. and theyre fucking gloating theyre meanspirited, the entire thing just feels like youre watching someone else rant about foreigners or something like that we finish playing and i leave the vc and go to bed i feel horrible, this was easily the worst session in my life

the next week i cancel the session

the week after i ask another player to please make up an excuse to cancel, afterwards im in croatia for the weekend and we skip that week too

in that time, its become obvious, this group doesnt work out. the gm doesnt wanna run anymore, citing their anxiety and the general poor mood about the game the other player is venting and ranting about XYZ regularly now. not just about the game, but basically anytime when XYZ starts to act up again and can't communicate like a fucking adult (and for the record, other player, i never minded that. youre awesome and i felt just as much frustration at this bullshit as you did and still do)

we need to address it somehow, so i take the initiative (the way i usually do)

XYZ is uncommunicative in general and everything you say just upsets them, so theres no good way to go about it. try to be nice, they hit you with the "nobody wants me 😥", try to be as objective as possible they yell at you

me and the rest of the players decide that we don't want to play with this person anymore and we go to tell them

guess who the asshole is in this situation?

correct, it's meeee me of course! forever and ever

theres a lot of hubbub about it, how it's unfair, how the decision for this person to no longer be part of the group was made FOR them, a lot of resentment, another person who had only surface info chimes in about two weeks later to talk about how we should have tried once more

i understand why XYZ was frustrated, dont get me wrong. they thought we were friends (however one might think that when all our interactions were just them sending me "…" or "flops" or an emoji at 3am because they cant sleep) and then we just kicked them out

but frankly, i was putting up with so much bullshit from someone im not even friends with being told to fuck myself because i DARED to not prioritise their freakout in the moment

and because i was the one who ultimately brought it up, im the evil asshole until the end of time
