With pleasure!

Bette's the cousin of Bruce & Kate Kane & her origin is, at best, a little messy.

She was originally introduced as Bat-Girl alongside Kathy Kane Batwoman (who is a DIFFERENT CHARACTER TO KATE KANE) to dispell rumors that Batman & Robin were gay.

She's very smart from the get-go & figures out Batwoman's identity all on her own. As is typical for the Silver Age, she gets into a lot of zany antics. Her favorite hobby is weaponizing misojyny.

She gets to join the Teen Titans towards the end of Volume 1 by creating a fun spin off team in Titans West! This is my most beloved Titans team, just a bunch of my blorbos in one place. Really and truly made for me personally.

Then the universe explodes, so naturally, Bette's back with a new backstory.

I'm really not a fan of it. Bette's origin didn't have much to do with Dick Grayson; now, it's all focused on him.

Plus side, she's going by Flamebird and she has a kick ass costume.

She gets reintroduced in a redux of the Titans West story and does get some fun moments, I won't lie. She pops up in The New Titans and is so <3.

Her next big appearance is in Hawk & Dove Annual and it's spectacular. This is the peak of all comic characterization ever. Issue of all time. I'm obsessed it genuinely makes me insane.

She gets some cameo stuff to do, until Titans/JLA: The Technis Imperative. She isn't up to much here, but! It sets up her story in Titans Secret Files & Origins #1 which leads wonderfully into Beast Boy.

Beast Boy is so good to her it's unreal I love her new costume. Nothing beats the original, but I like the update.

She gets more fun appearances with Titans LA (Titans West 2.0). Fun fact! Titans LA was originally gonna get its own book written by Geoff Johns.

Urm. Universe blows up again. New 52 happens. I die inside.

I hate Bette in this era so much it's unreal. Her Batwoman arc is a rehash of her Beast Boy arc with added fridging. She gets Batman to imply she'll become a villain. It's just really gross, IMO, and utterly unneeded... it's done to get her to a place she's already at. Like if we had Dick Grayson get skewered by a pedophile while Batman gets fucked so that he could move on from Robin... like we've done that. Why are we doing it again but gross.

She's had some appearances in Rebirth. I hate all her 'Tec ones-- Bette Kane would never join the military after what happened to Kate. She'd never join in general, but especially after that.

She did get an appearance in DC's Legion of Bloom that I loved! It's Titans West/LA again unsurprisingly and it's just a fun story about them on a mission. She's returned to her Flamebird glory and not forced into being gross Hawkfire.

She hasn't had anything since that & as the main title she'd realistically show up in is Titans, I'm hoping it stays that way. I do not want Tom Taylor within ten feet of her.

ok so our beloved kate just postedd the following

and it made me picture eilia, [ princess leia style, being like 'idk what ur talking abt' ] right to roderick's face when he demands the location of the stafford swords -- even tho they blatantly just had (two of) them during the war ladksjflkjsdfjkdsf -- while she still thinks that both her sisters and one of the swords have slipped away from between roderick's fingers alskjdflkjsdfjk

no, but it ~also reminded me that we never quite finished up talking abt the swords in question (my fault entirely!) but the rest of that's [ here ] and before that [ here ] and we've def talked abt it elsehwere in drips and drabs, such as establishing that they were meteor sowrds etc

anyway, since we also got talking general family stuff there <3 i thought id make a new stafford sword post so we can get down to business w the swords themselves <3

ok so here's what you/kate said last re: the sword of kings:

SWORDS I love the idea that the missing sword isn't really a stafford sword but a founder sword... any house could lay claim to it! (ooo what if each house has their own name for the sword so no one really knows what it was originally called!?) could we retcon the story slightly and perhaps add something in about the sword being claimed by someone who is there to save Astaira in its time of need? or reunite the kingdom? i dunno something along those lines i feel like would help play into the idea of rian/his dad that THEY should find this sword to rule astaira! and if/when roderick hears about it hes like... well i obviously need that to prove to all these HEATHENS that I am the one who is here to save their backwards country! And then there can still be the two stafford swords w/ siobhan running around w/ one which would still be a THING since its a symbol that could unify people and obvi that's bad for our favorite power hungry emperor! ;)

Hazbin Hotel Rewrite [WIP- this is copy and pasted from my docs; this is old but i wanted to share it anyway]

Rewrite the Characters:

Original +opinions (ooo~ Spicy) :

Charlie - Princess of Hell, Daughter of Lucifer. Sheltered and Cheery.

  I hate that she’s just Disney Princess coded. They could have used the whole sheltered route well but TBF we don't see that either.  We see a weird rendition of that where everyone forgives her for her terrible actions but yet other characters like Husk and Angel Dust are somehow held to a higher sense of accountability for their actions?!

  I also don’t believe whoever raised Charlie could keep her away from the ever growing and changing landscape of Hell. Like if you're going to be a Princess of anything its really important for the next heir to be well acquainted with their kingdom's landscape and history. At the very least talk to the locals and commonwealth. 

 Her design is...ok. It didn't change much from the pilot but tbh i liked her Pilot design, I feel like it makes sense for her to wear hints of red and white, but i wish they added more than just red, i feel like black or gold would have been better or even purple for Biblical accuracy of Pride.

Vaggie - Girlfriend to Charlie and protector of the Hotel, ex-Exorcist. 

 Why did they change the lore? Also why does it feel like the VA hated being there or was just given 0 directions. She sounds dull and plain except for when she’s sounding like she’s angry, which is 99.98% Of Vaggie’s emotions.

  That, an amnesia apparently?! How does vaggie not remember the very weapon that cut out her FUCKING EYE that still makes no sense, like how tf her and Lucifer and even Husk have wings, if wings are going to be used for ANY character why make them seem important to Vaggie when Husk literally has wings, and Lucifer the supposed “fallen Angel” STILL HAS HIS?! Like why? How does this make sense? 

Angel - FemBoy, Sex worker. Deals in Self destruction, self loathing and deep depression while also being flirty and promiscuous. Was in a Mafia family. 1940s timeline. 

 Trauma porn character and just a bunch of gay men stereotypes. As a survivor, his story doesn't hit the way its meant to. There's a good and bad way to show SA and Abuse and while they did it “eh” (im saying this loosely) at first, they were completely unrealistic and downright infantilizing at the end.

  There's no way someone who just went through a beating, an having to almost get drugged and dragged out of bar, is going to forgive the same person who started the stupor in the first place- ESPECIALLY ON THE SAME NIGHT!!!!!

I FUCKING CANT WITH THESE WRITERS THINKING MENTAL HEALTH CAN BE SOLVED IN A 20 MIN EPSIODE, IS THIS A KIDS SHOW ABOUT FRIENDSHIP OR AN ADULT SHOW ABOUT CARTOON DEMONS IN HELL. 

And don’t get me started on that terrible musical number, it’s just soft core rape in a cheery pop tune i fucking hate it!! It doesn't help that Raph, an SA fetishist STORYBOARDED THE DAMN SCENE

Husk - Angry grump, bar keeper. Contracted to Alastor. Gambler. From the 1970 or 60. 

 The design is a character designer's worst nightmares come to life on the screen. Every furry from the early 2000s clutching their pearls in cringe. It screams “omg rawr xD uwu” era and i think we as a society are way past that, i figured a 30 something year old woman would be too.

Alastor - radio show host from the 30s. Cannibal. Half Creole. “Wendigo design”. Cocky and always smile but is "quite dangerous when provoked." [yea ok pal]

  An OC from middle school that should have stayed in middle school. There is a reason so many OCs from artists' early childhood don't make it into their new and growing art style. Most of the time if you keep obsessing over the same OCs you stunt yourself on growing in your art. Tumblr Sexy Man is that exact thing. I like him in concept but, if he was drawn better and actually looked like a man from the 1900s and in his 40s,(or even a half creole man; that's supposedly a Wendigo) I'd have less to complain about. His concept is good and interesting, but its not the first or the last and Alastor def isn't the first. Also give that man a haircut please!

Nifty - Japanese-American. From the 50s Obsessive and a neat freak. Camera shy but psychotic.

  I feel like this is just a racist stereotype waiting to be exposed. The “young psychotic Japanese  girl” trope is so fucking old and repetitive that i cant vibe with a character like Nifty when i know her only purpose is to be used as comedy bait. It doesn't help that Viv didn't give Nifty almost any merch! Like WOW really showing favoritism over the merch sales and that is disgusting.

Sir Pentious - British inventor. Kinda an idiot but is a brilliant machinist.

  We were robbed of a decent villain. I hate that he became part of the cast and became the first redeemed as if Angel wasn't there longer and started showing signs of Redemption sooner, like we got more Redemption scenes of Angel but like NONE of Pentious and we are supposed to believe this weird snake dude is redeemed just cuz he kissed a girl and got himself killed for nothing???? VIVZIE YOUR ASS WRITING IS ASS!!

Also he's a stolen Character...seems to be a trend for Viv..

Lucifer - King of Hell, Father of Charlie, Sin of Pride. Depressed and non-serious, deep self loathing. Complex of some sort. Short King.

 He’s fine..i guess, i mean its freaking Jeremy Jordan VA-ing him…he kind fixes whatever is wrong with Lucifer character wise. [this is for very obvious reasons a joke, while re-reading this i realized some people might not know i'm being sarcastic,oopsies] He’s a terrible character for numerous reasons. He is kinda homophobic if you really think about that “i like girls too” line and then proceeds to call her “MAGGIE”;  Lucifer feels like he is just there to satisfy Viv’s  disney esque “daddy issues” type kink she has for “tragic characters and shitty dads” type characters.

 Designs wise he trash. He looks like jeff the killer but blonde and drawn by your aunt who refused to go to art school

Cherri Bomb - Angels Friend. Arsonist. From the 60s(?). Punk rock.

 Her design is literally traced and just the Addict design…the fans are just stupid. Also i dont like the fact that Viv EXPECTED viewers of her show, to have done homework on who the fuck Cherri is, cuz if you're a new watcher, and didn't read the fucking Vivziepop Bible, you wont know who tf she if or why you should even care about her.

 Why is Angel hanging out with someone like this in the first place, You’d think because Angel is older and from a different time period he wouldn't vibe with Cherri?? But apparently Viv thinks a fem gay man from the 30s would be the best homie to a 20 yr old punk rock Aussie from the 60s, a whole 3 decades of time difference!! Tell us why and how they know each other!! How can these fundamentally very different people even vibe together!! Is it just cus "wow shared trauma of abusive lovers" cuz wow Viv.

Lucifer - 

 Was an Angel with dreams, and took part in the Creation of All Things.

   However Lucifer was too ambitious and went off course with the designs of Earth’s creatures, causing the other Angels to feel uncomfortable by him and his new creations. 

While the Angels were tolerating him, he was allowed to visit the First Human, but in doing so felt that their lack of knowledge was unfair and so in hopes of helping the other Angels see things his way, he gave the Apple of Knowledge to Adam and Lilith. 

 This didn't go as planned though, Where Lilith became kinder and more empathetic, Adam however became more uptight, and acted as if he was better than Lilith.

 Lucifer defended Lilith against Adam thus causing the Angels attention to be drawn. Seeing what Lucifer had done; Ultimately bringing evil (free will) into the world, They (strangely) cast Lucifer AND Lilith, as well as the creatures Lucifer had created to the dark void;

 The Angels now would call it, Hell. Lucifer, home. 

Lucifer would first land in Hell confused and depressed, Along with Lilith they both begin to freak out as they look into the dark, empty landscape in front of them. Feelings of bitterness begin to reside within Lucifer, that settled into a resilient sense of ignorant Pride. 

Lucifer’s Creations - 

 The demons and most of the Hellborns. Lucifer is treated as the Divine Judge of Hell, His punishment is having to witness all the evil that had been created due to him and He in turn must turn what could never be, into another one of his creations. Though he is given it a process. He has given up on making anymore Hellborns due to them fixing that themselves. Demons that are specifically Dead Humans (The Sinners).

Sins - 

 All of the Sins were once creatures created by Lucifer that began to Form into The 7 Deadly Sins. However the rest of these creatures evolved into lower ranks and a hierarchy was formed. With the Sins and Lucifer being at the top.

 The 7 are special creatures that Lucifer held a special fondness to in particular. More so than some of the other Creations. Each of these Sins were given a mission after the fall and were subsequently turned into the Sins by the Angels, who felt they deserved the same punishment, if not worse, as Lucifer. Forcing each of the Sins to work as their prince/princess of their specific ring unless they want their entire existence to cease. They rather that not happen.

The angels cursed all the sins, and Lucifer himself. that if they ever stop their torment they will cease to exist. Angels thought this was humane but didn't realize or rather didn't care that much at the time how barbaric it actually is. 

Dubbed the Curse of the Angels or Angels Kiss 

(play on Kiss of Death where whomever Death kissed is marked for death, 

here the Sins were “kissed” by the Angels and a “kiss” was once used to symbolize a curse or bad omen onto another)

their "death" however is more than they evaporate into nothing

its their very minds and bodies slowly begin to deteriorate painfully to the point of being empty husks. No expression, No emotions, No sense of self. Nothing. Their consciousness and personality essentially gets erased entirely.

Premise IDEAS for Rewrite:

Sinners go through character arc delving into their issues that lead to each one's Redemption

Heaven gets upset over the rise of redemption in Sinner 

 Earthly Denizens of Heaven/ “winners”  attack the Hotel

The Sinners and the Staff defend the Hotel

Heaven’s attackers are turned fallen.

so i started this almost a year ago, it was right when i really started to dislike Viv and Helluva Flop Boss. If you wanna give a suggestion on what you think could make this better go for it. It's a WIP- so any advice is welcome and appreciated!!

Princess Tutu and Princess Kraehe Designs!! FYI these are not me bashing on the og designs, i personally love them alot and love the direction inspiration they have from swan lake!! <33 this was just me being silly :3 I took alot of care and research for these designs WHICH i will now be explaining the symbolism for both designs 👏

Lets start with Tutu! I went thru several designs for her, the final design being a combination of elements I like from each of them. The First design was a heavy combination of Swan Lake's White swan costume and the new Ugly Duckling ballet (crazy ik!!!)! I really liked how the ugly ducklings costume had wings attached to her bracelets so I had to obviously give that to Tutu. ALSO I WAS EXTREMELY EXTREMELY TORN on giving her the iconic pink pointes but in the end I decided to give her red shoes cuz of the fairy tale with the cursed red shoes TOOOO represent how tutu is forced to dance for the sake of the story while Ahiru wears pink pointe shoes showing her genuine love of dance on her own. The 2nd design was based off of the barbie nutcracker interpretation CUZ I THINK A HEART SHAPED BODICE IS THE CUTEST THING EVERRRRR i love hearts so much.

3rd design was my first attempt without any inspiration but i still love it alot frfr. overall, im rlly happy with tutus design!! Tutu / Ahiru have an actual, somewhat history with the prince in the actual tale, in my version anyway. With each heart shard she finds, she herself unlocks a memory of her time in her fairy tale, glimpses of her time spent with the prince! crazy! :3

Ohhhhhhh man i loved all of my kraehe designs like i was fighting for my life choosing a design cuz like,, they are so swag... Heavy inspo from the black swan and simply vibes i was going with

OHOHHOHOOOO the veil felt like such a big brain move for me personally- so basically

the veil represents kraehe grieving the "loss" of mytho -via him being obsessed with Tutu and how she feels like shes lost her prince. Also it helps covering her identity! At the end of 1st arc when Tutu and Kraehe dance for Mythos love, Kraehe finally unveils herself as if its a wedding CRAZY I KNOWWW

also she has dark red shoes that show shes also forced to be in this story and they r soaked in her "blood" to show she isnt meant to be kraehe, that she was stolen from her original purpose. she feels as tho shes dancing on glass yet continues to do so for mythos love.

Ill post a more clear front part of her outfit soon! But I felt like her outfit rlly wouldnt have that much details hence the use of only black and red. I rlly love her designs frfr also kraehe has feather weapons...i think thats so swag

imagine being a florist! reader meeting chigiri at the flower shop you work in because his sister sent him of all people to go buy flowers to brighten up her new apartment

the long haired football player doesn’t notice you at first but you do the moment he walks in and you’re smitten

bc how can someone look that pretty??

well it’s certainly possible bc the evidence is right in front of you

you yelp slightly taken back by chigiri’s sudden presence right in front of you, but he’s unfazed and simply asks for what would match with his sister’s aesthetic

you blush and you blink but your at first averting eyes suddenly start to gleam taking chigiri by surprise

you spiral into a rant about possible flower combos even adding comments on their meanings and origins and chigiri is taken back because one, he wasn’t expecting that and two, why were you kinda cute

while at first chigiri was unwilling to do his sister’s task and had wanted to get out as soon as possible, he doesn’t stop you and lets you go off on a tangent nodding and letting out hums hear and there to show that he was listening (well at least trying to; it was kind of hard to keep up with you)

but then all of sudden you just stop and chigiri blinks as he watches your face erupt in a furious blush and then you tangent on about being sorry for rambling in the first place, taking up too much of his time, not doing your job, and again he found it hard to keep up with you

Summary

THIS GAME WAS SO FUCKING GOOD. The setup throughout the whole trilogy was great, especially all within Trials and Tribulations. I love how bits and pieces of each case(or even large portions) had a ton of relevance to the final case. The characters were amazing and had great development, I loved playing as Mia and Edgeworth, that was such a delight, and im so glad we got to battle it out against Franziska as edgeworth. I love the other 2 games but the cohesiveness of the entire story within this game was spectacular. It truly reminded me of DGS 1&2 and why i love it so much. I really love how we also got to see young feenie, bratworth, and mia, the dialogue was especially entertaining. I cannot get over the twists and turns of the last case. I could never have predicted what was going to happen. I love complex mysteries like this, they're so entertaining but also im constantly thinking 'how do you even plan this all out?' The narumitsu in this game is so perfect too... omg. Incredible game , I absolutely loved it!

ive finally decided. each slugcat that goes with each member of the chain

now i originally panicked thinking "oh fuck theres only 9 and inv would horribly mischaracterize whoever i threw them with because theyre basically just known as the dating sim one what do i do" (for context the dating sim is a feature added once you finish inv's campaign as a joke) but then i remembered the watchers existence so everything is great

oh yeah i threw the chart of them with each slugcat and the color i associate each one with at the bottom, and the slugcats themselves !! :)

Four is Monk because I just think it fits, a silly little guy, so why not?? (i secretly didnt know who would fit him and monk seemed like the best choice)

Hyrule is Survivor because Survivor is the sort of the mascot of Rainworlds AND everyone is based on their design, which is kinda what I see Hyrule as!!

Twilight is Hunter because Hunter's campaign is fairly hard,, atleast for a newgen ☹️ i got killed by like every monster and that reminded me how when i started playing twilight princess i gave up on the top of the castle because the birds kept killing me.

Wild is Gourmand because Gourmand can mix food and it gives him an extra food pip, which sorta relates to how Wild can cook food and its more hearts than the ingredients mixed in it are

Legend is Artificer because both are more closed off due to trauma of losing people they love </3 they could never make me hate you Artificer (shes been one of my favs since last year (i drew ship art of her and hunter to annoy my friend once as a joke even if the two characters NEVER MET and then i became an artificer fan LMAO))

Wind is Rivulet because.. well ive already yapped to you about this but Rivulet and Wind are kinda.. both already water related in their stories but also both care about the people they love!! Rivulet considers the character Looks to the Moon as their mom and their campaign is basically just helping her and Wind saves his sister in Wind Waker :3

Sky is Spearmaster because Spearmaster has a special ability of holding two spears, which i just think is cool and i was like "huh sky was kinda the one who helped forge the master sword (correct me if im wrong LMAO)" but also comes with a downside because.. Spearmaster cannot eat normally. they have to use the spikes they form from their tail to drain the nutrients out of creatures ☹️

Time is Saint for ACTUALLY THE PERFECT REASON???? basically once you reach karma 10 (im not 100% sure what karma even is but its earned through playing the game) you become a god and have the ability to kill everything with one hit (compared to before where you couldnt even pick up a spear) but when you ascend and end the campaign you end up in the same place as before, restarting the cycle.

Warriors is *checks notes.* thats? not a released character yet thats an upcoming DLC- who cares hes The Watcher/Nightcat because they technically arent canon outside of arena yet and haha thats like battling. hyrule warriors is battling mainly. see it matches it matches it fits its fits,,!! (ignore how their picture is their marketable plushie they have no canon illustration outside of arena icon yet)

I may be obsessing over Talon and Megan a tad bit…

I love all the possibilities of how they passed the time in the car so much. It would be so awkward at the start and I’m all here for it!! I imagine Talon carried most of the conversation from the beginning until after they really got to know each other. I feel like at the start Talon would just awkwardly try to tell her what has happened to the earth while she was gone in hopes of starting some conversation. I’m imagining the parking lot picnic with them just drinking slushees and eating whatever gas station food seemed good (I’m assuming everything is kind of run down?)

Car karaoke. Oh it would be amazing. Talon trying to find songs Megan likes and trying to get her to sing along, windows rolled down, it’d be such a vibe.

With the race scene I can’t stop picturing the scene from princess bride where they both are rolling down the hill XD

Their relationship is so great, two strangers bonding in a long car ride… oh wait they already knew each other? They were already in love from book one? But Megan’s memory was wiped- WAIT NO THEY WERE IN LOVE AND HER MEMORY WAS WIPED!?!? Okay, okay, it’s fine at least they became close again, just a fresh start nothing to worry about… HER MEMORY WAS WIPED A SECOND TIME!?!? TALON THOUGHT SHE WAS DEAD!?!?!? Yay Question Time!

-I believe I could at least get the designs for those people sometime soon. They are just random people who decided to work for big bad (aka the voice, bc they only heard his voice through speakers at first). The voice decided he could make some good money abducting children and forcing them to be assassins so he did that. The government doesn’t know about them bc they hide in space. The few organizations trying to take them down are the only ones who really know about it

-talon has a few different tattoos, the one he got initiated with is a tattoo/ permanent burn so it has to stay covered to protect it, the other is just on his neck and he leaves that one in the open (I can point it out in the pics below)

-and yes! Tegan is the ship name for Talon and Megan (it was that or Melon hahaha)

-Ivan didn’t really have much personality in the oh other than he was angry bc the scientist that snuck into the escape ship was dating his crush, I’ve made some personal modifications to him in my head though making him more protective rather than just angry (he’s also Megan’s cousin) and I just remembered I have a drawing of him? So cue the picture section :)

Im working into a more grim version of the beauty and the beast titled “the bleeding hart”,got inspired by various media and batb adaptations,here’s some notes now:

-The setting is more goth like in the late 1800s

-Miriam aka “beauty” is an artist than a reader (technically she reads specific biology books) but she had to put it aside to support her family and she works as a nurse so she saw lots of stuff.She has also a weird concept of nature,life and death and she ignores too much her mental health

-Beast is a basically a horror elk,a chimera of elk,jaguar/linx,wolf and snake with bones bursting out of the body and jewelry adorning his antlers,earring,piercings,necklaces,brackets and chains on arms and tail and he’s covered with scars.Personality is more cold than angry and when he’s feral he’s a horror scenario (this dude mauls animals and maybe people).As a prince (his name is Cain btw) before the curse he had a more vampiric appearance:pale skin,pale blonde hair with piercing blue eyes and had more destructive and ruthless behavior caused by abuses and himself,also obsessed with dissection and biology,after the curse he’s like Adam mixed with book accurate Frankenstein creature,very long black hair with white strands of hair,still blue eyes but he’s now covered with scars and has chronic pains

-The servants are entities (every age,nationality and even animals) The beast can see them but not belle and they’re “puppets-ghosts” wearing their servants clothes and a mask that if you take out there’s a hole instead of a face but one that looks it came from an mri scan

-The curse was a deal the prince made with a particular enchantress aka Lilith wanting to rule the reign (be careful what you wish for) and it lasted for more than 100 years.In those years it spread out a legend of a castle inhabited by the devil itself if you get lost in the woods and see a white elk guiding you there

-The figure of Gaston is an high class poacher,man of power hunger for conquests and posses the rarest species even if it will cause the extinction of the species,but he has worse to hide

-Miriam’s family follows the original story,father was a merchant in ruin and after the accident the father,four daughters and three sons has to survive from it,he sacrificed a lot to put them in better positions,he does his best even if it could cost his children well being

-Religious horror

-Bit more of blood and spicy elements

-Nobody here is actually straight

-Mentions of mental illness and s****de

This sounds fascinating!

Here are my ideas for my retelling, which at the moment is titled A Beast's Rose:

*It's a WLW retelling: both Beauty and the Beast are female.

*The setting is vaguely Russian-inspired, approximately the 17th or early 18th century.

*The Beauty character loves both books and music, as in the early versions of the tale. She's an aspiring poet and composer, though she gives it up to focus on everyday work after her family becomes poor. Her dynamic with the Beast is ever-so-slightly inspired by Christian and Satine's in Moulin Rouge! (a romantic idealist who sees the good in an aloof "bad girl" and wins her over), so I thought it was only fitting to make her a poet and songwriter too.

*She's the eldest of three sisters rather than the youngest, which might make some people think I'm ripping off Howl's Moving Castle, especially because this version of the Beast is also a magician. The truth is that when I was little – before I had even seen the Disney version, I think – I saw a stage adaptation of the tale that made Beauty the eldest sister, and looking back, I like the way that change enhanced her role as the family nurturer.

*Her mother is the single parent whose freedom she exchanges her own for rather than her father. Her father died when she was a little girl, in the shipwreck that also cost the family their wealth.

*The Beast is a cross between a wyvern and a giant gray bat, much like the Great Animal from The Swan Princess, but with a long snakelike neck and giant sickle-shaped claws on her feet like a deinonychus. Her personality is also more cold than angry. When she was human, she was a beauty with long, dark brown hair, who looked quite a bit like Olivia Hussey as Juliet. (Yes, I use celebrity face casts.)

*In human form she was like a young lady Leonardo da Vinci: a talented artist, architect, and scientist. This also let her learn some magic, because in this fantasy world, magic is a science, derived from plants, animals, and other elements in nature. Unfortunately, her teacher, who was her family's court magician, cared less for her work than he did for her good looks, and he pursued her romantically against her will. In desperation, she finally used the magic she had learned from him to turn herself into a beast to fight him off. But then he took control of the spell and retaliated by cursing her never to change back to human until she fell in love and was loved in return.

*Instead of an actual castle, she lives inside a hollow mountain, which she used her magical polymath skills to transform into a castle and garden on the inside. The mountain's forbidding rocky outside vs. its beautiful inside reflects her personality.

*The servants are small animals, inspired by the monkeys and birds from the original tale, yet like Disney's enchanted objects, they also used to be human. They were the very few servants who tried to defend "Lady Beast" against her tutor's sexual harassment, and so he cursed them too. They can't talk, but they've mastered the art of non-verbal communication.

*Unlike in most versions, the local peasants know that "Lady Beast" exists, but they think she's an evil monster and tell all sorts of terrible, untrue stories about her. It's like Elphaba's status in Wicked after she goes on the run, but without the political/revolutionary aspect.

I have many other ideas too, but I’m still sorting them all out.
