Misfits and Sandbox

Some words to show what i mean with "sandbox" in Misfits

And I mean something like a mix of The Sims and Lego.

That's really my vision when someone says sandbox. Oh and GTA IV. Liberty City and stuff, you know. GTA V was a bit too overwhelming for me. But, really, when im thinking about modern sandbox (something that does not involve "medieval" aesthetic and low tech) my mind goes back to my time playing with Legos and the hours that I spent with different iterations of The Sims and all the gratuitous crime i commited as I child/teen robbing vehicles and just doing whatever.

I also like the procedurally generated vibe, as in the osr/nsr scene with the tables as input driven engines, or with roguelikes in digital games, specially when they are well executed with a twist (like hades and the fragmented narrative).

So, this is my way of integrating that stuff. The procedural generated stuff is where i idealize the mechanics, generating narrative with die and choices from tables. Also, i think my goal for subsystems is one of generating stuff to make actions more significant than the usual "just RP it" or "just write a short entry" (for solo ttrpg). Like the famous clocks from Blades and a myriad of other cool games. Soon i hope to expand that to other stuff that I'm still daydreaming about (dating system! car chases! smooching people!). For now the game is Acting and Plans. In terms of mechanics frontiers for the Misfits. Acting is normal rolls that get solved in itself and Plans are more like long term or complex stuff with clocks and checks to fill ticks for resolution.

That's it.

The rest is Lego, a big toybox with stuff for you to play with, and the Sims, some Faces for you to meet, fall in love, fuck, kill, befriend, move together, rob, etc.

That feeling is what I'm wanting more in analogic games, specially my designs. There's a lot of stuff for you to see and interact and daydream and even play about. And there's also a set of things that make this little world consistent.

I want to provide interesting toys and interesting faces and expand on the procedures to make those trips to this little world more interesting. Fun takes many forms. Maybe it can be more spicy or erotic. Maybe it will be powerfantasy, cape shit. Maybe something more heavy, political or tinged with horror. I think that's my goal, cover all those possible vibes of stories that comics managed to fit into people capable of defying reality using cool costumes and spilling cringe dialogue.

Right now Im planning on divide things in "Tapes". Each tape is like a season and have a name that's also kind of a more structured group of faces and happenings that will do things that can show up in future seasons. Some form of persistent world. I know that's not very popular nowadays with most people in indie ttrpg spaces but i admit im a sucker for weird plots encompassing a game universe in a greater narrative. I think it's nice to play in a bigger world. Have some kind of canon, or at least possible canons. I also think that marvel multiverse shit made people feel sick of it but im not elaborating.

Im not making a canon that you have to know to play the game or anything, but the Tapes will have this little bits of stuff that i pretend to mention in the next and, maybe, creating some kind of persistency with Faces and Places that you can use in your playsessions or just scrap it off or pick it a part.

So, I'm not capable yet of assembling things into a coherent layout, but i want to get some pieces of Misfit outta in the world. Here are some building blocks (hah) of what your Misfit will interact in the world:

Faces are people to meet. Places are places to go. Happenings are like encounters, things that happen in the world, favours that Faces ask, or just slices of life

Later I pretend to divide those tables in Regions, each one with a vibe more well defined and some neighboorhoods.

FACES: 1 - Key, bald drug smuggler with a mustang, a mumble speech and the ghost of his dead brother to raise. 2 - Van Helith, tireless basketball player, dreams with the big lights, cocky but kinda awkward with people. 3 - Eva, extremely powerful freak. she's slowly dying because of her powers but also discreetly searching for a cure. successful businesswoman, practically lives in her private jet. 4 - Hobbs, DJ who's also a kaoist who uses sonore dissonance to fuel their magic. 5 - Montaineblanc, revived semi cadaveric ex-royalty. perverse and rotten human being, enjoys his newfound immortality. 6 - Ceci Boo, overworked freelancer. pretty crafty philosopher. talented martial fighter. fae bloodline, she does not know. a little misanthropic. 7 - Noah, psyonic, talented musician. Usually depressed. uses his powers to play multiple instruments at once. 8 - Haysha, smoker, tormented psyonic e-celebrity, likes to drive fancy cars. 9 - Michael Zaraj, a bloody, also mad scientist and toxin experimentalist. made mutating intelligent spiders to have minions capable of bring humans for him to experiment on. 10 - Any Corvo, popstar and "crimefighter". a hot fash who streams music and murders petty thiefs in revealing pink and black costume for her far right audience. lethal swords. seems like a build up persona. 11 - Mindy, traveled a lot as kid, never knew what is home. Can always be seem with her red bike full of patches. Blunt and suspicious. 12 - Joan, artist, has a little online following by her creepy collage projects. The themes of her pieces are a contrast to her ponytails and flowery jumpsuits 13 - Benji Skrinar, talented dev, prolly a cybersyko but he hides it well. Does some online scams for an extra buck. 14 - Max London, Ex highschool quarterback, now a model. Hates to travel. Knows everybody important in their hometown and is kinda of a local hero. 15 - Talissa Mür, a know face in circles of luxury events, restaurants and parties. Seems like some kind of heiress, but actually does a dirty job in an Exclusion Zone as a geneticist. Vos, an ex huntress that left behind the fucked up reality of The Houses. Now they are the guard commander of a small castle 16 - Ethel, a librarian and weaver. Trans girl stranded from her big family, arrived in the region to start living with her caring but confuse and troubled dad. 17 - Natalie, prodigy student and Supe. Her family was one of the rare exceptions that didn't want their daughter becoming part of a Corpo, which she did mainly as an act of pure rebellion, but also to exercise some control to her life for the first time. 18 - Hellen, knows as her stage name of Ziggy, is a freak with teleportation powers, dancer and singer. Performances like hers, mixing entertainment and powers, are getting really popular. She is discreet with her identity, but soon will attract wrong attention 19 - Mulaney, idealistic boy born into nobless, discharged from C.A.G.E. after caught sabotaging operations. His family saved his ass and now he is backpacking around the countryside thinking in ways of "dismantling the system" (but mostly just vibing. he is rich, after all) 20 - Cora, Psyonic, top of their class in The Citadel, the prestigious college for Overly Capable Humans. After few drinks will spit out that they have beem abduced twice. If drinks waaay to much will admit that cheats in every test with a complex methodology (it's a heavy burden for them)

PLACES: 1 - Small coffee shop named Plantoffe. Lots of weird plants. runned by an middle age couple. 2 - Master Tara's Boxing Club. A franchise of generic martial arts with underpaid instructors 3 - Bills Square, billboards everywhere, neon and luxury stores mix with tall comercial buildings, a mix of tech and finances. Security cameras and cops are omnipresent in this vicitnies. 4 - Makeout Creek, a little creek near the high school, famous spot for teens to hang out and... well, mostly smoke weed but some actually still makeout 5 - Gemini Hills, just out of the city. a spot with parks, places to eat and with a great view of the skyline. 6 - A moto bike shop decorated with random esoteric stuff and violet neon lights called Azphalt 7 - An abandoned construction site. upon further looking there's trash, a mattress and signals of a rushed escape. 8 - An old mass grave turned to a boring park with a couple of benches and a monument in honour of a dead local stray dog named Chico. 9 - A plaza in the Campus. A brutalist fountain sits at the center of it, with different handrails, elevations and concret benches being used by skaters to perform different tricks. Cliques of college students gossip and drinks and eat observed by the scorching sun. 10 - Caricá Beach, paradisiac little spot, hide between deep vegetation and a hill that ends in a rocky cliff used for risky jumps into the water

HAPPENINGS: 1 - Missing posters of a boy. His brother handling pamphlets, asking for help. The cops are ignoring the case after coming back from the woods with scared eyes. 2 - A neighbor is moving out and found some weird stuff in a basement that they had never noticed. At least they will tell you that. 3 - Two girls asking for help, last night they were hired to dance in a party in a secluded club. Turns out thar it was the last rite of a suicide cult and today they are locking themselves in a gold revested bunker to transmit their conscious to a new dimension. Oh, the leader really seemed to have some weird powers. 4 - The bus from the local basketball team broke. They could use some help to reach the game. Also, their reserve squad is lacking some players... 5 - Traveling band of street artists is being held and investigated by two strange Border Patrol cops. 6 - Sunglasses, tans, boys without shirts and groups of people in beach clothing in the trail that leads to the Costa Esmeralda beach. 7 - A C.A.G.E unit running roadblocks, aiming to pass an image of security to the a region with recent unrests 8 - A thematic party at the sorority-run bar Pinkgarden. Good opportunity for getting laid, do some networking or play the hero stopping a mortal brawl between highly intoxicated supe rivals

anyways! lets talk about why i no longer like friend d!

so im gonna split this rant into TWO PARTS!

Part A: things ive noticed myself/seen first hand

okay number one! they said that theyre diagnosed with bipolar, which THEY ARENT. first off, diagnosis are expensive asf no matter what youre trying to diagnose and im not being mean at all but just saying theyre on the free lunches plan soo, two diagnosis takes agessss and they just so happen to suddenly have one??

number two, theyll shit talk like everyone. i only started noticing recently that most of what comes out of their mouth is shit talk. and its fine if you have a lot to say about shitty people but then you immediately talk to them again as if you didnt just say you want to curb stomp them?? it gets confusing and ngl is really bitchy

number three! milked tf out of the fact that one of their friends said they might be autistic. which no. autism isnt something you should milk for attention!! and like the only symptoms they have are the depressive ones which USUALLY should lead you to believe that maybe you just have depression? idk im not a psychologist

on that note, they want to be a psychologist, yet doesnt understand why people act the way they do (like theyll shittalk people for things they cant fucking control) and also has rheir own problems? this would most likely be even more self destructive right? to have to solve others mental health before your own? idk im just thinking

also also they seem to care more about getting into relationships (AT THE AGE THEYRE AT) than grades which uh. yes i am literally on my knees yearning for a relationship but also at least im actually doing school and excelling academically ✌️

plus dont you gotta do good at school to be a psychologist?? thats like a really hard subject

Part B: things ive been told

this part is where it gets more blurry, since some isnt backed up (but most is dw!)

they dated C two years ago and used to do freaky shi to them at the back of the bus (make out, cuddle, touch thighs, etc), which a friend of ours i’ll call F saw first hand! um ew.

they trauma dumped on C first things first which uh

C and F would sit with each other a lot and talk alotttt because theyre both neurodivergent and nd people tend to go well and D got all pissy and like “me when my friends leave me out..” and so to shut them up (shut me up? by msi?) F told them that they might be autistic and they started milking tf out of it

told a bunch of people that C sa’d them which C did not! also told F that C’s sa story was fake and that C mentally and physically abused them (there are screenshot proof of D saying this btw!)

told people that im not autistic and that im faking it because im self diagnosed which THEY LITERALLY ARE + IVE DONE COUNTLESS HOURS OF RESEARCH ON AUTISM LEAVE ME ALONE

something ive noticed but isnt it weird that all their relationships lasted only a couple months? kinda says something

would manipulate people into taking their side by saying “oh dw its my fault not theirs!”

on that note their recent partner broke up with them AND GAVE A WHOLE ASS GOOGLE DOC ABOUT WHY WITH AMAZING EXPLANATIONS + SAYS A THOUSAND TIMES THAT IT ISNT THEIR FAULT, but C twisted it to make them the bad guy which tf he has the best moral compass of everyone ik stfu

jokes alot about substance abuse (which they do btw) but it just gets like “what am i supposed to say?”

ON THAT NOTE OF NOT KNOWING WHAT TO SAY they texted F that they tried killing themselves and F responded with an “oh” because tf are rhey supposed to say to that?? (F told me that they were literally crying when they saw that)

was a terrible friend to F, F noticed and cut off ties (good for them!! They have so much courage because i could legit never i love them for that 💪💪) and then they proceeded to send a lengthy apology which was all bs btw!

ive been told that they faked their trauma, substance abuse, and their eating disorders, but tbh im not sure if that’s true or not (considering ive seen texts theyve gotten from their mum about eating)

minor but they say theyre goth but dont even listen to the music which is the whole point! and also doesnt follow the political opinions of goth!

(did the same with punk, btw!)

not sure if true or if C said this to save their own ass but apparently D got C to shit talk me (i talked about in an earlier rant) which errr…

Secret Part C: small details

this section is in bullet points!

insulted F “jokingly” to the point they had huge gender dysphoria

thought F had a crush on their bf (at the time) when F’s literally a lesbian

not only a pathological liar but a inconsistent one!

okay this is kinda hypocritical but they follow sh blogs that show cvts

+ says the cuts are cute (which is something i dont do. i actually dont even follow them but from time to time i’ll scroll through and want to vomit /nav)

literally gave me a step by step tutorial on how to purge

not lying!

complained about their bf not kissing them in public (which is something you talk to your bf about not me! + boundaries fucking exist?)

very minor but alot of the stuff they like its mostly because it got popular on tt

will say shit like “ive only been catcalled like three times in this outfit!” which no ew + gave me a massive insecurity that im not pretty enough! choose your words wisely!

so to sum it all up theyre a terrible human being and im glad i dont talk to them anymore! thanks for reading this lengthy post!

Saying so I don’t take the credit for something I DID NOT DRAW AT ALL and that I only changed the colors of.

I legit googled fish vector because

1- I was to lazy to draw the entire fish when the main asukusa drawing was almost finished and would've taken me a ton of time

I actually feel like 🗿 today.

I hope you guys don’t get disturbed, I just feel 🗿, because I want to mentally shake my head and tell it to shut the fucc up jack you can’t fret over every egg.

I feel like quitting art sometimes that’s what I'm saying.

Now I say this here since I feel safe to say it here than other platforms merely because I am afraid of seeking as much possible attention when it’s going to make it worse for absolutely sure

I feel selfish for many reasons I will not list out because I don't want anyone else to feel like sht besides me, that would be terrible.

The only one I will say is that often I wish my work was more recognized, sometimes I do wish for a comment, idk what comment even, anything that doesn’t sound disingenuous or uninterested, because I can tell sometimes when someone is doing it out of being told to do so because they feel bad and not because they actually want to.

I feel like whatever I draw isn't recognized at all ,and it honestly feels selfish it feels awful and it feels greedy and entitled all at the same time because what right do I have to make others do something they don’t want to out of choice?

What do I even get out of it? Nothing but worse things basically.

I wish my characters where more recognized, that’s what I mostly wish, I wish I could do the same thing other creators and artists did to me with their characters.

Just inspire me to do whatever I want and keep on, I wish I could inspire the same way with my characters, because I feel like all I've been doing is nothing, all I've been doing is watching how things go down for everyone else and I wish for them to be an inspiration, for them to be looked up to.

But I feel selfish thinking that because I can’t do such a thing...and therefore look at me, doing this for an attention, a voice out there to beg people to do things I should wait for them to do by their own without me saying a word.

But the pressure on myself is to much.

But yeah that’s my distasteful rant on this art, I'm sorry please skip this ahead and feel free to ignore this post

Fragments - NSPR

Hi yeah, Fragments is a series for NSPR I’ll be doing, it’s basically any story that is before the events that would happen in NSPR. Also, NSPR is a crossover AU where Vinyl City is a city in the Kanto Region..so..pokemon? Yeah. This also includes other charas from both NSR AND Pokemon, like here. Also I’ll be opening asks since it’s far easier to explain the lore by asks, so go crazy wit it. (Also, lore on both sides of the Crossover has been changed quite a bit to fit.) Anyways Please be aware this is really not my best work, I’m just doing this for fun and if you want to give criticism feel free! But I would prefer it if you did it on some of my better stuff. Characters - Neon J, Bill Words - 616 TW: Guns, Death threats, mentions of war (Please say If I missed anything else!! Im awfully oblivious) Story below the cut!!

“Get up. Now.” Neon’s screen powered on, only to wake up to the barrel of a shot gun. He swiftly backed up, only for his back to slam against the hardened oak of a tree. “I said get up, piece of metal. Get up or you die right here.” The unknown voice chided with a lifeless hiss. Neon’s body ached, he had been running across regions, desperately trying to escape a fate that could only be described as cruel. The Border Wars were over, he didn’t provide any true use anymore, that’s what they said. But he was still human, right? When was such a line between man and machine drawn? “Get. U- “ “Alright! Alright!” Neon cried, somehow gasping between his words, his energy constantly at a low point to where there was no point in trying to fight, even if he could calculate the easiest way to subdue whoever pointed at shotgun at him. Once he was up however, he was able to finally look at his possible murderer, and it was...not what he expected.

They were only a boy, probably around fifteen, their reddish-brown hair was uncared for, and it being already naturally curly made it seem like he had a mane almost. Their pure red eyes staring straight into Neon’s soul, and by their leg was a Jolteon, their back fur even more spiky than usual in response to Neon’s existence. The boy’s face didn’t seem mad, but rather blunt. Neon stared at the boy’s support hand, holding the shotgun ever so loosely, “You realize that if you shoot me right now, with that loose hand, you’ll blow your hand right off!” He chortled, of course it was a joke, and Neon was desperately trying to bring some light to obviously horrid situation. “Oh...oh...thank you...?” The boy tightened his grip, his eyes focused on his gun. Neon hadn’t noticed it but the boy’s voice was somewhat shaky, as if he was suffering to get his words out, or had some issue with it. “No, NO THANK YOU! You realize this is Sonezaki property, right? I can technically shoot you right now and classify it as self-defense.” Sonezaki. That rung a bell. By this point, if he could, Neon would’ve probably subdued the threat, but this was just...a teenager, he wouldn’t shoot Neon, he really wouldn’t do that, right? The boy gave out a groan, “Your clothes look horrible.” “Killing me would be bad but commenting on my fashion is just worse, this is my only article of clothing!” Neon gestured downward to the worn white shirt he had on. “You don’t even have pants?! You’re really just out here being half-naked?!” “No, no, it’s not necessarily half-naked because-“ “Perv!” The boy broke out into laughter for a hot minute, quickly taking a breather before speaking again, “I’m joking, I know what you mean, aha…aha…” He lowered the gun, before suddenly shifting back to a much more defensive stance. “Why am I laughing with you? I…I give up. Look,” The boy’s eyes squinted, his grip on the shotgun being loosened once more. “Alright, I really don’t want to kill you. So, I’ll let you inside my house, I’ll give you actual clothes, as long as you shut up and not get me in whatever mess you might possibly be in, understand?” Neon nodded along, his mind far too tired to think of the possible consequences and dangers that would lie before him. “...And..also, my name’s uh Bill.” Neon froze in thought before responding, “Neon J.” “Come on...” Bill backed up a little, lowering the shot gun, “If you touch any of the pictures on the wall though, I WILL kill you.” “…. Understandable.”

Hamilton High School AU 63

He tried to break away, but the arms were too strong around his waist. "Who the fuck are you?"

"You'd think you know. Last time you heard me talking, it was in court, where you got off free for breaking my leg defending my stupid ex."

James Reynolds. John kept fighting his grip and he'd usually be out of it without a fight, but he felt so weak. And that dizziness never went away. What was happening to him?..

His answer came out of the bathroom as Reynolds dragged him towards the back entrance. John Jay came by with a sly grin.

"What did you do?.."

He held up a packet of pills. "You really should watch what you drink. Turns out, James was after you and I hate you, so I helped him out. In return, he hurts you in the worst way I know how to."

"All that time in prison because of you and Maria. I know what I'm doing."

In John's mind, he was screaming and thrashing, but whatever Jay had put in his drink simply sucked the life out of him and he was hardly moving, hardly making any noise. He was completely at their mercy.

Thomas went into the bathroom only a minute later, furrowing his eyebrows as he saw that John was gone. Maybe he already went back into the- Woah! He almost slipped on some lipstick tube. He tutted and picked it up, furrowing his eyes. The color seemed a bit too familiar. He walked out and kept looking down, finding a phone.

He felt his heart drop.

He ran out into the main hall and looked around. Think... Think... He knew this building better than anyone there. Whoever was there would find a back entrance without a fire alarm. And the closest one was... This way! He began running and went straight out of the door, fire filling his eyes at what he saw.

He ran forward and tackled the other guy off of John, beating him down into the concrete until he heard the weakest voice coming from John, calling for him. He jumped off of the half conscious stranger and gave him one last strong kick before going to John. "I'm here for you.. I'm going to see how hurt you are, okay?"

He made sure to wait for a weak nod from John before he checked under his skirt. John didn't seem to be too badly hurt, but it was clear that Thomas had only gotten there seconds too soon. He heard a camera click from behind him and turned around, growling as he saw John Jay with a phone.

“I tried to be your friend, Thomas. Have fun getting your reputation back up after this.”

Thomas jumped to his feet and grabbed the stupid thing from Jay’s hands, smashing it too pieces against the ground, about to do the same to Jay himself.

John moved around a bit and tried to sit up. "Tho... Thomas... Home..." he whimpered.

Thomas paused, giving Jay just enough time to run, and let his expression soften before he turned to John. "We have to get you some help, sunshine..”

John whimpered and shook his head.

“I’ll be with you the whole time. We have to make sure you’re okay.”

After another few seconds, John replied. “Okay...”

“Can I pick you up?.."

He nodded.

Thomas scooped him up and carried him to his car, reclining the front seat as much as he could. "Are you hurt anywhere?.. He didn't hurt you anywhere else?"

John shook his head. "He touched me..." he whimpered. "Jay.. bad stuff in my drink..."

"He drugged you?.." He sighed. "I'm calling the police. I'm not letting that monster get away with this and I'm not letting Jay run free, okay?"

John cried softly and nodded, curling up as Thomas stepped outside and did just that.

When the police and ambulance arrived, Thomas sat with John in the back of the ambulance, holding his hand as the paramedics took his vital signs.

Jay was dragged out of the building kicking and screaming and an officer behind him had the pills that he'd kept in his pocket in an evidence bag. James Reynolds was in an ambulance too, but with more officers than anyone else.

Thomas sighed. "Do you want me to get Alex?.."

He shook his head and held Thomas's hand tighter.

He nodded and kissed his hand. "Can I tell him what happened? I'll tell him you don't want anyone else around."

He nodded and Thomas did just that, seeing that Alexander had been spamming his phone.

Alexander felt his heart stop. He completely shut down, unable to respond, unable to talk, unable to think. What was he supposed to think? Supposed to do? Go to sleep and act like his boyfriend hadn't just almost gotten raped? Like he didn't want him to be there right now?

"Alexander, are you alright?.. Where's John?.."

"I... I..." He began clamming up and just gave his phone to Lafayette, who went pale at the texts before frantically responding. [It's Lafayette, can I com and make sure hes okay?]

Thomas frowned and asked John. "Do you want to see Lafayette?.."

He thought for a few seconds before shaking his head. "Just you..."

"Alright.." He figured that John would change his mind later, but for now, it was best to just listen. [I'm sorry, I really am, but John says he doesn't want to see anyone else. xx]

[Thomas, if you are lying to me, I will castrate you with my bare hands.]

[I'm taking you serious, Laf. I need you to trust me for John's sake, please. xx]

He sighed. [Fine.] He gave Alexander back his phone. "Maybe he just needs his space right now... He doesn't want to see me either. He's not mad because of the pamphlet." Of course he knew that Alexander thought it was because of that.

And Lafayette was right. Alexander visibly relaxed at hearing that it wasn't only him, but only by the slightest amount. He was still worried about John.

"Let's go home, okay?.. We can talk to him later, I promise. He's going to be just fine."

Alexander nodded and let Lafayette lead him out of the hall, joining the rest of everyone in a flood towards their cars.

Lafayette sat with him in his car for a few minutes, letting everyone get to their own and letting the crowd clear up as he called Hercules. "I'm going to be with Alexander. I have to make sure he's okay."

"What about you, Laf?.. I want to make sure that you're okay too... John is like a brother to us both.."

"I'll be fine.."

Alexander reached up and grabbed his wrist. "Let him over.. He can sleep with us as long as you two aren't all gross.."

Lafayette smiled softly and nodded. "Why don't we all stay together? You, me, and Alexander?"

"Alright. I'll pick up Rosie and some clothes, then I'll be at yours. I'll see you then, baby."

"I'll see you then." Lafayette hung up and began driving, taking Alexander home.

Luckily, George and Martha were already asleep, so they got upstairs without a problem, changing in their own rooms before laying down in Lafayette's.

When Hercules got there, Lafayette let him in and he joined them upstairs with little Rosie, laying down with Lafayette and Alexander. He kissed his datemate's cheek and they all fell asleep.

Thomas paced around the waiting room as he was forced to stay there, John getting checked out somewhere in another room. He only stopped when a nurse came in, calling his name. "How is he?"

"He's going to be okay. We want to keep him just until the drugs leave his system, then do another quick evaluation, but, from the details we got from him, we highly doubt that he could have contracted any diseases, though we did make sure to test him. He should be getting those results in a few days or a week. Over all, John is going to be just fine."

Thomas sighed and relaxed. "Thank you so much.."

"It's my job. You can come see him and I think you can make a case for staying the night. You're his boyfriend?"

Thomas nodded.

"Then having you here should be nothing but beneficial for him." She smiled and led him up to John's room.

The freckled boy was laying in his bed, watching the tv in the corner and wearing a hospital gown underneath the blankets. He smiled as he saw Thomas and opened his arms for him, hugging him as he sat on the edge of the bed. "Thank you.."

"No need to thank me.. Even if I wasn't your boyfriend, I would've kicked that guy's ass without a second thought."

The nurse smiled. "He's going away for a long time. He may not have done any permanent damage, but it was damage all the same and he does have a record."

John nodded. "Thanks.."

She nodded and walked out.

Thomas laid down beside John and put an arm around him. "How are you feeling?.."

"High as hell... But I've been worse."

"Poor baby.." He kissed his forehead. "Do you need anything?"

He shook his head.

"You still don't want anyone else here?"

He shook his head again. "Just you.."

"That's fine." He smiled a bit.

"Thomas?.."

"What is it, baby?"

"Is the dress okay?"

He chuckled. "It's not in too bad shape. I'm sure Sarah would understand and help you."

John just nodded.

"Go to sleep, sunshine."

He nodded again and fell asleep, Thomas sleeping beside him.

In the morning, John woke up to a gently nudge from one of the nurses, Thomas still fast asleep beside him.

"Sorry to wake you.. I just need to ask a few questions about your condition."

He nodded. "Okay.."

"How are you feeling this morning?"

"I'm kind of sore everywhere.. And my head kind of hurts, but I'm not too bad. Like, if I had the flu."

She nodded and wrote that down. "Is there anything else?"

"No. I'm alright otherwise."

"Great." She smiled and gave him a brochure for a therapist. "I recommend seeing this doctor when you're ready. It's not necessary in the healing process, but I highly recommend it."

John nodded, pretending to consider it. "Thank you.."

"Of course. We just need to run a few quick tests, then you'll be ready to leave."

He nodded again and let her test his reflexes. He couldn't even let them test his pupil dilation the night before because he cried and thrashed as soon as it started thanks to how blown out his pupils already were. And Thomas had to hold him as they took his temperature and hold his hand as they got his dress off and checked him for physical damage. He was a mess made a whimpering child by drugs.

"All done."

John blinked a few times. Already? He only vaguely remembered a few followed instructions, but it seemed that he'd spent his attention on his own internal turmoil.

Thomas began to stir. "What time is it?.."

"It's just about to be 8 in the morning. Mr Laurens is ready to go home once you're ready. You can run and bring him a change of clothes, if you want."

Thomas nodded, then sat up and stretched once the nurse left. "I'm going to get you some clothes."

He nodded and gave him his key, checking his phone as he waited. He sighed as he saw all of the missed calls and messages mainly from Alexander. He called him, knowing that would put him more at ease than just a text.

Alexander had been half asleep, but answered in record time. "Hello?"

"Hey... It's me.. I'm okay.."

"John... Thomas told me what happened last night. I'm so sorry.."

"I'm going to be okay, I promise. I hope you know I'm not mad at your or anything... I just don't really want to see anybody.." He didn't want to be coddled, made to feel like what happened broke him. It hurt, but John had easily been through worse. Thomas knew how he wanted to be treated, not in any way special, but like he had someone there if he changed his mind. Lafayette was too soft as to try not to treat him any differently and Alexander saw John as fragile, as he'd already made clear. And Hercules would no doubt treat him differently, too, seeing John as a younger sibling. Thomas was probably the only person who wouldn't since he understood what it was like not wanting to be treated differently, most people did just that when they learned just how rich his family was, and he understood that he wasn't the only one who felt that way.

When he came back, John changed into the outfit that he'd brought him, just a simple shirt and some sweatpants, then went with him back to his apartment. John immediately took a nap with Thomas, then got up and ordered some pizza a few hours later, neither of them feeling much like cooking. John ate most of it, though he made sure to leave enough for Thomas, then got up and pulled his shoes on, looking at Thomas.

“Want to come with me?”

He got up and grabbed his shoes before asking, "Where are we going?"

"I kind of just want to go to the gym.. Blow off some steam, work out a bit or something."

"That sounds good." While he’d gone out to get John some clothes, he'd also gone home and quickly changed into a tee shirt and shorts, ready to just relax for the whole day, so he was ready. He got up and went to the door with him, walking out behind him. "Where are you going?" he asked as he walked right past the car.

"I prefer to walk."

Thomas nodded and followed him down the street. John seemed independent on the outside, but they both knew that he needed Thomas following him and keeping an eye on him for a while. "So.. what did you say to the nurse about therapy?.." He knew it was a sensitive topic, but he wanted to see what John would see.

"I said I'd think about it, but I threw the brochure she gave me into the trash.."

"I get it.. Nobody's forcing you to do anything."

John nodded and flinched as he leaned against a light pole at a crosswalk, feeling the sharp sting of static. It normally didn't bother him, but he couldn't help it, not while he was thinking of that time only moments before.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah.. I'm alright." And this time, he was telling the truth. Of course, the memories still made him jump sometimes but it was nothing serious anymore. Not like the time when he burst into tears after someone offered him a stick of gum, only for it to shock him. That was so embarrassing...

"Alright." He kept following John until they got to the gym. As usual for the weekends, it was fairly empty, so the pair played some music as they sat in the weight room, not talking much because, frankly, they didn't have to. The few shared glances or song lyrics that they sang out loud was more than enough to know that they were both okay. Things weren't great, but it was a good start.

Once they were warmed up, they headed into the boxing ring at John's request and after his promise of not hurting Thomas. It was an interesting match up. Thomas wasn't too largely built to be fast nor was he too thin to be strong while John was thin and shorter, but strong for his size and with speed to match it.

But Thomas wasn't a boxer. John saw his moves from a mile away and it was only a few minutes before John won the match.

"Alright, you got me. As the runner up, I get to give your your prize."

John smiled and leaned up, letting Thomas give him a quick kiss. "And as the winner, I declare this day to be over. I'm ready to go home."

"So am I." Thomas smiled and followed him out, then walked back with him, getting a call from his mom as they walked. He tutted and answered. “Hello?”

"Thomas, where are you and Lucy?"

"Lucy's at a sleepover with her friends this weekend and I'm with my friends."

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

He rolled his eyes, knowing just what to say to get out of this. "I did."

"You did?"

"Yeah."

"Oh. Well, have fun then."

He sighed as she hung up and put his phone back in his pocket. It'd been that way for years, probably ever since Lucy was born. No, even before that. Always, maybe. It was so easy for Thomas to get away with anything when no one paid attention. It was one of the reasons he'd fallen for John so fast. He did.

When they got to the apartment, they laid on John's couch with pizza that they'd picked up on the way and put on a movie, spending the day quietly.

I got into a car accident a week ago, a truck driver backed into me while I was just stopped at a stop sign.
