I am about less than halfway through the manga [i stopped right where the anime is currently adapting rn] bc of how moved i was by str n sgr lol. I was having a bit of a hard time really getting into the story details, even tho i thought it was really cool, it all felt very monster of the week/‘the stakes are removed from our protagonist bc of str’s existence’ until hidden inventory -> jjk0 -> shibuya arc. u really understand why str is so vicious toward the higher ups+ why he feels like ‘no one should take away youth from young people’ n why he became a teacher .. and its all cuz of sgr. When one of the best chara concepts (power being an internal storage unit of curses that essentially functions as a wicked womb being held in the body of a tragic dogmatist who is traumatized into hating all of humanity & wanting to kill them all n how he deeply loves his family of sorcerers, this idea of monstrous ~motherhood~ in a ~man~) is in a shounen jump weekly series & was dead from the beginning/to borrow tumblr parlance was haunting the narrative. im lazy as hell& need to catch up to the current chaps #fakefan

Subjective Experience is a Bitch. It's fucking tiring to feel like you're unique in your Experience. Like the current Feeling ive got is just a general overprevalance of Men everywhere. Im a Trans Lesbian who: actually have made efforts to think ideologically and doesnt just spew a haphazard socialjustiselibertarianism that has no grounding. i dont think NV is the best game ever its mearly good i dont like kink stuff like im fine with it but i dont want to engage im not actually that weird in my sexuality im a lesbian bc i like other women trans-cis and also fem presenting nonbinary ppl ig. Im shit at programing im shit at music I dont have a prefrance for anime or manga Im shit at hoi4 and only play it when im drunk enough that the hours i wasted on it dont feel bad im halfway competent at painting miniatures and an ok at sketching idk sometimes it feels like im just delusional and like people just go along with stuff

The Another anime isn't a very good adaptation in my opinion (it gets so bizarrely fanservicey at times, like why is there an oversexualized beach episode, these characters are FIFTEEN), but the original novel is *chefs kiss*. It has a certain eeriness the anime lacks, and the mental imagery of Misaki Mei blending into the light streaming in from the window is permanently ingrained into my mind. Kiyohara did a great job adapting it into a manga too (though there's still not enough eeriness in my opinion), and he's the same guy that later adapted Decagon House into an absolutely phenomenal manga with so much character depth and gayness and PAIN. But anyway, if possible I'd suggest checking out Ayatsuji's novels before the adaptations because he's really an amazing author and deserves merit, and it's really interesting to compare his original writing to people's later interpretations. Also there's an Another side story/prequel (Another Episode S/0) that's really good, and a sequel (Another 2001) that's slightly less good. Also!!! Check out Tsujimura's works if you haven't already, because they literally rewrote my brain chemistry. I was up at 3 in the morning SOBBING over Lonely Castle in the Mirror. And A School Frozen in Time is downright brilliant (though the original novel hasn't been translated to English yet, so I've only read the manga adaptation), and I suggest going into it knowing as little about it as possible, because it's all about the shocks and surprises. Anyway uhhhhh got off-track there a bit but the moral of the story is that the Gaiden authors are great

ouhhh i see!! i'm aware of the another prequel but i didn't know there was a sequel! and i agree, im halfway through decagon house murders rn and im loving it so far—ayatsuji's writing leaves me so boggled but also i keep getting the urge and want to keep reading to find out more and more. i'll be sure to get to reading another eventually, i just plan to finish decagon house murders atm ((had the absolute horrid idea of reading the manga and novel simultaneously before dropping the idea and decided to finish the novel first before picking up the manga again))

i do have tsujimura's lonely castle in the mirror in my list! heard that it was being adapted into a movie and wanted to read it before i found the time to watch it. thank you for the recommendation as well for a school frozen in time!! i've only heard passings about it and don't see a lot of reviews for it, so i'll be sure to add it to my manga list too! the best part about reading manga on shady pirating sites is that sometimes u just see something absolutely unhinged and have no way to find out why it exists. one time there was an extra chapter after the last chapter that was just a fancomic (?) of the two main girls fucking. i thought it was a canon epilogue until like halfway through. one time i was reading a fan translation of something where the main character called other people faggots like every other page. this manga im reading rn had a picture of some anime girls with ’holy shit! goddesses!’ pasted on top of it at the end of the chapter

HERE is another Shoujo manga trope I really like: when a new Handsome Boy character is introduced and he's like a little evil like at least a minor antagonist but not really in the romantic or love rival-y sense, and later the main character meets him outside of their antagonist battles or whatever and he's just like a normal dude maybe a little snippy but chill and nice and it's like one of those "in a different scenario maybe we could be friends..." situations and they have a surprising amount of chemistry and a bit of a fun character dynamic and while you as the audience don't actually want these two to get together romantically (like the main characters romantic arc feels like it should definitely end with her getting together with The Main Boy 'cause it's cute and sweet and the entire story has been set up for that and their chemistry and relationship is just more narratively satisfying so switching it last second would honestly be disappointing) it's still a little fun for a minute or two to ponder.....................just a hint of pondering

tokotsuyu i feel is pretty adorable. they are somewhat opposites in the way they present themselves, but are similar in an intriguing sort of way. however, they get a lot more interaction with others, and i don’t really think that tokoyami is much of a relationship person

togaocha is pretty nice, but they just dont get enough interaction (as far as i’ve watched). in an au if they had more one-on-one interaction, i think it could have happened

She's always been the type to like reading non-conish manga but EXCLUSIVELY in the yaoi genre. The other things that bugs me is that whenever there's a movie/book/whatever with the same elements but with a man and a woman instead//

She’s a very nice person but I never understood that about her :/ I LOVE CP, but no way in hell are Damen’s and Laurent’s dynamics healthy and “hot”. Heck, he flogged him ffs. I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t like Laurent much after the end of the trilogy even, but he gradually grew on me as I internalised the shit we went through and now I love them bothMy point is that I don’t find it fair to suddenly enjoy a series because it features a gay relationship instead of a heterosexual one. Fiction is fiction yes, but I’ve always been creeped out by those “fujoshis” who consume gay content no matter how wrong and twisted it is because the MC’s are their “cute gay babies” but then harass authors and viewers/readers alike for consuming the same content but with the protagonists’ different genders. Idk, sounds like gay fetishizing to me you know :/

And yeah I get your feeling :/ I mean it’s ok to enjoy captive prince and Laurent and Damen, but it’s true that at the beginning, in the first book, their relationship is far from healthy. It becomes healthy, and they start really mentioning what happened at the beginning in The Summer Palace, but yeah, it does sound like gay fetishizing if she tends to really enjoy yaoi  but denounce that sort of fucked up dynamics in heterosexual medias.

I think maybe your friend is really “too much” into yaoi and so is used to see that sort of fucked up dynamics as “hot” that she struggles more to see the issue here. Maybe just talking it out with her could help ? Trying to tell her it’s the same than what she doesn’t like in heterosexual medias ?
