true wand : prime. a wand created with parts from clockworkers and cogwreckers and modified overtime. while it wields immense power, the cost for utilizing this wand and reloading it are equally as devastating. explanation and notes for designing it are under the cut ( a little long )

since the mechaniturge or grand magiturge was going to be an advanced magiturge that had a better understanding of his abilities, this would include his ability to make more advanced modifications to his wands and better yet, crafting a new one. i took care to look at how the wands ingame are put together as well as look at how the prime sword seen in the s3lf-eater update was crafted to get an idea of what i needed to do.

you'll notice in this design, it doesn't look like the traditional wands you obtain ingame which was on purpose. it's made of clockworker and cogwrecker parts so i wanted to keep that machine look there so i then referenced the 4 guns that are seen on clockworkers ; the bot pistol, bot shotgun, bot submachinegun and bot rifle.

the description for these weapons describe how its design isn't very comfortable for fleshy hands which worked in my favor since my oc has scarred hands from dirty work over the years.

you'll see i was initially focused on making a formal wizard staff for him since he himself has tailored his wizard's robe and hat to his liking but i eventually found more interest in designing the wand itself. there are a few slight tweaks to the design but it is overall the same :3 you might also see that his own wardrobe and attire don't seem very mechanical or machine like other than the gears that are present under the first layer of his robe. there are reasons for that :3 however im not really ready to tell why yet i now have to design the tome that goes with him since his nature in modifying and tinkering with his arsenal has lead him to change the writings in his tome to such marks that burn into his mind. his wizard's staff is more of an accessory but i will still design it.

quick question, whats graveyard broadcast? i saw you tag your art as that a lot and im curious. whats it mean?

Graveyard Broadcast is a for-fun story set in the Splatoon universe that I’ve been tinkering with since I was about 16!! It’s heavier on the war and military aspects, has substantially more characters, and it’s tailored to me specifically. This means that it’s generally darker, more tense, involves a lot of complicated people who are kind of fucked up, and deals with substantially heavier topics with no holds barred, because it’s not like Nintendo can stop me or anything. If there’s anything important to know about me, it’s that I predominantly write Horrors, Thrillers, Drama… Lots of Psychological stuff. It shows. This is a neutral statement.

I’ll take this time to mention that Graveyard Broadcast happens to be a story that’s very focused on the struggles of the Octarians. I’ve always found them to be very sympathetic… Yes, even those ones. I caught a whole lot of flack back in the day for doing so much as entertaining the idea of nuance with them!! But that’s a story for another day…

like pretty homoerotic. it depends on which books but like. a perfect spy which is le carre's famous litfic masterpiece [i hate to reduce a perfect spy down to this because there are a million subtexts and this one is one of the less interesting] very distinctly posits that there are three genders, Men, Women, and Bottoms, and then firmly situates the protagonist in that last category (even though magnus isn't technically textually queer). and of course tinker tailor soldier spy is technically like. the storyline which is arguably the emotional core of the story is textually a tale of romance and betrayal between two men. like that's not the one that takes up the most time on the page, but it's the beating heart of the book, and jim prideaux and bill haydon are like. they're in that book textually speculated to be in a relationship and then le carre confirms this four decades later in a terrible sequel. so those are two of le carre's most famous novels and they're both pretty gay. and he's written a bunch of other homoerotic books but those are like. the big ones.

what are some of your favourite books?

oh what a tough question! i really don't read much because i've got a terrible attention span sometimes. another thing is that i don't feel like i was entirely conscious until rather recent so i couldn't take in what i was experiencing as well i can know, and will later. but anyway i'll stop going on and think of some..

the hundred year house by rebecca makkai was the first book i read that really blew my mind (in middle school). it follows characters in this one house over three time periods. right up until the end of the book more and more is revealed how each time is delicately intertwined. i reread it when i was about 17 and enjoyed it the same, and i think i would enjoy it even more if i read it again today, now that i'm older.

the absolutist by john boyne i'm mentioning this one because it totally obliterated me more than any book ive read. so much so that it almost made me sympathetic to the plight of those people obsessed with happy endings and warding off misery in art--almost. but i hope that doesnt put you off if it interests you, i really would recommend it. sometimes a bit of pain is good thing--to have ones emotions stirred up so high is a real treat.

enter the aardvark by jessica anthony wholly original and the most ive laughed at a book. was strange feeling empathy for the type of character who i would abhor in real life, but thats how it goes when youre in someones head. 

the iliad by homer dont even know where to begin with this one. i'll just say that i think since the title is one of the most well known and well regarded (in the "west"?) of all time, and because of its age, it gets underestimated by people unfamiliar with it (which is more and more these days, i think). but it really is an astounding story with depths that you can mine for eternity (not in the least because its in an ancient language and therefore subject to translations and what not).

orlando by virginia woolf first of all: the greatest love letter of all time (here's another favourite). second of all: to say this book was a delightful read undersells it, but my vocabulary cant give up a more suitable word. i feel like im entirely somewhere else when i read it. as a lover of history, watching her refashion the concept of a biography the way she did sends tingles up my spine and across my brain. 

on the road by jack keruac im not even sure if i especially liked this as a story but i dont think ive ever given more thought to a book while i was reading it recreationally. i can only freely admit here that it was in large part due to supernatural. i read it back in the winter when i was deep in those trenches and almost all i could think about was supernatural. so while i was reading it i was thinking about how it compared to the show and the characters (dean lol) and kripkes ideas about his show, masculinity, America etc. and it was extremly fascinating to see the narrative and message keruac made from his experiences and the people he met. even observing the misogyny i found interesting (sorry girls). so in short this is one of my favourite books because it gave me a lot to think about. also you can tell im not an english major who has to pick apart books all day long lol

black beauty by anna sewell one of my favourites for totally sentimental reasons. my mother read it to me as a child, it was one of her favourite books, and we shared (in the family) a love of horses.

Whoa! Thanks for the questions! I’m going to break the answers up by character for length. I touched on some of these points in a past post, so I’ll expand on them. First up, Rip Van Winkle! 

Rip seems to be Zorin’s opposite; she’s the ‘Eva Braun’ to the latter’s ‘Brunhilde’. Zorin appears to represent the more agrarian population, while Rip is more the urban-dwelling socialite. She seems more refined in her style of dress and love of opera, so I would imagine she comes from a higher social class, possibly the daughter of an officer. That or she’s putting on airs to make one think she’s from a more affluent background than she really is.

I think Rip was likely born around the Rhineland, given her moniker is both Dutch and a literary reference to Irving's Rip Van Winkle because:

The Rhineland is closer to Holland than any other part of Germany. While the German ‘Von’ is more common in names, the Dutch ‘Van’ makes its way in there too: example Ludwig Van Beethoven who was originally from Bonn, Germany. So she might be of Dutch descent to some degree, too?

Irving’s novel takes place in the Hudson Valley, which Life magazine in 1939 called “America’s Rhineland” because they are a bit geographically similar.

I think Rip was born and raised on propaganda. In Dawn, her hair is braided similarly to girls and women in the BMD. She likely joined as a preteen and was active in it until her late teens or until 21. The BMD indoctrinated young women and taught a very romanticized version of German folklore and tradition coupled with the National Socialist system. That’s probably what lends to Rip’s more silly, girlish, and romantic personality and outlook on the events in Hellsing. A lot of the BMD’s teaching also focused on the “self-sacrifice’’ women should make to further the cause of the party, which seems to match her sacrificing herself to further Millennium's goals to keep Alucard stuck at sea for a bit to launch their attack.

She likely voluntarily joined the Aufseherin, too. I think Rip (and Zorin to an extent in terms of sheer brutality and rural upbringing) is based on Irma Grese the most. Grese is described as being beautiful, immaculately dressed, and one of the most sadistic female guards. That description seems to fit Rip and her gleeful enjoyment of Mill’s actions.

Given her entrance in Hellsing: The Dawn (she’s K.O.’d like immediately) and moniker, I think Rip is out cold for pretty much the entirety of the Hellsing Raid and misses the rest of WW2. In Irving’s novel, Rip Van Winkle falls asleep for 20 years and misses the American Revolution. This leads me to think that Hellsing Rip is out for an extended period as well due to the karate chop from Alu’s coffin to the back of her head.

I think the hit also caused some extensive head trauma and forced the Doktor to work on her shortly after the raid. In the opening of Dawn, Millennium is experimenting on POW’s and only seems to be able to create ghouls, not the more advanced bootleg vampires, yet. I think Rip was one of the first, if not the original successful FREAK. I also believe she fell flat on her face and chipped her teeth after being knocked out, and Dok filed them into points, giving Rip her signature smile.

Due to her unconsciousness and missing parts of the war, I think Mill’s higher-ups (namely Major) gave her the moniker Rip Van Winkle as a joke.

I believe the wack to the head messed with Rip’s memory too, possibly giving her amnesia, and is one of the reasons why she’s so attached to Der Freischütz. I think she always enjoyed opera. Those with amnesia, while they might forget past events, loved ones, have been known to have their musical memory still intact. I think this is one of the reasons she’s so obsessed with the opera and strongly relates to it; it’s one of the strongest things she can remember and thus relates to it waaay too hard. (Wouldn’t feel bad for her. The whole aftermath of the Hellsing Raid is pure speculation on my part. Rip’s scarily loyal to Mill, so she’s terrible through and through.)

Her being called Rip Van Winkle showcases how her, and by extent all of Millennium, are stuck in the past and are resistant to change. Irving’s story is a cautionary tale about wasting your life away, and Mill, well, they waste their lives trying to get revenge/overcome the supernatural/prove their superiority.

Her catchphrase “Tinker tailor soldier sailor, my bullet punishes all without distinction” is a reference to the old ‘Tinker, Tailor’ game/nursery rhyme children used to use to identify who was “it” in a game of tag. I think it highlights how childish Rip is, she views shooting someone kin to playing deadly tag.

In the novel Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, named after the same rhyme, British SIS agents track down a Soviet spy in their ranks. I think this also references how Rip got on the Eagle using British naval forces that betrayed the crown in return for vampirism.

I have no fucking idea where the hell she got the Jezail rifle from. They were really popular with Afghan troops, especially during the Anglo-Afghan war. I think it’s supposed to add insult to injury that she’s using a musket that devastated British forces in 1800′s before while also reinforcing how behind the times she is.

She seems to personally relate to Kaspar in Der Freischütz, who in the opera makes a deal with Samuel, an evil spirit/the devil known as Black Huntsman, for magic bullets. The fact that Rip and Zorin are a part of Mill highlights that they’re both highly effective soldiers. Their leadership roles are also one of the things that show how unorthodox Major is at running his organization. Women participated in military service, but it was very regimented because the Nazi’s were, in a word, conservative. Women served alongside men, but they could never give their male soldiers orders. Both Rip and Zorin are officers with troops under their command, so they must be good at what they do, even if Rip is a bit of a ditz at times.

Rip is the only one who is scared shitless of Alucard when she first sees him. She seems slightly more ‘realistic’ about her capabilities, but goes through with being bait, cementing her extreme loyalty to Mill’s cause. However, the way she talks about Alucard makes me wonder if she’s aware that they are truly fighting the actual Dracula. Rip seems to believe Alucard IS Samuel to some degree(???). The way Major builds up this idea in her flashback leads me to believe Major isn’t 100% truthful about what exactly Mill is fighting or their end goal (even to higher-ranking officers) and is fine letting his soldiers believe in whatever gets them to do what he wants (read: die horribly).

I have to warn you this answer took me almost an entire day to write out, but I’m no mouse. LONG answer below! I missed out the non-RP charr, charr that have died IC, and the other races, just for my own sanity.

Apnea Spiritmaul Apnea is a Blood gal at heart, even if she is part of Iron Legion. She often spends her free time sparring with any Blood Legion she can find (and kicking their butts, usually.)

Arcturis Spiritmaw Arcturis, being half-legionnaire, doesn’t get much free time. He does enjoy taking far-too-long showers when he can, though. He will also just lay in the snow if he is in that climate.

Nerium Primalgaze (Yeah this isn’t alphabetical, I remade the alphabetical charr as her, hah.) Nerium is the type to enjoy the smaller things in life. Good ‘company’, a nice bath...

Artaios Earthshaker Earthshaker is a very, very old man. He spends his free time teaching any young charr who are interested in the ways of the Elements, or he sleeps. A lot.

Ashran Deadwar Ashran is another charr that likes to spar. He’ll fight, or go to the bane to watch the fights there.

Auva Solarbeast /  Ryta Thundervex Auva likes to spend time with her mate Ryta, and the two enjoy stargazing, cloudwatching, or anything to do with the sky. Auva also likes to read to Ryta.

Barb Axefell Barb was another charr that had little time. She works, she sleeps, and that’s about it.

Gacrux Lifebringer Gacrux is an avid reader, from leaflets she finds on her adventures, to books she may happen across. It’s debatable if she can actually READ, but she sure likes to look at words.

Geier Hearthhew When Geier isn’t annoying the Adamant Guard, making unnecessary hassle for Warband charr, or stealing metal from the Citadel to pawn off to whoever may buy it, he likes to go grawl-watching.

Grus Lunarspark Grus enjoys tinkering with his guns and gyros. Whilst in Drizzlewood, he picked up the enjoyment of fishing out of the need for something substantial to eat.

Hadar Tumultcleave Hadar enjoys learning new spells. With the arrival of new-flame into the legions, he’s learning a lot more that he didn’t have a chance to before!

Malin Lunarstone / Malin the Pallid Malin has recently been trying to draw- which has been a hassle, as she’s more recently lost her writing hand. Doesn’t stop her. In the past, she would do alchemy as a hobby. She also brews and drinks a lot of tea.

Murren Rubblecroon While Murren is a singer, he’s a terrible lyricist. But... His hobby is writing some of the worst, non-sensical lyrics ever derived from a charr.

Nenqe the Shield Nenqe makes guitars as a hobby! She also enjoys eating.

Rallus Weldcog Rallus enjoys tinkering with his mechanical devourerer and drinking beer.

Rouzl Crypticfury I guess you could say Rouzl is a... story crafter. Because he likes to make up bullshit stories that never actually happened to make him look like a hero.

Rrul Rivecleave Rrul enjoys a good whiskey, watching the Bane, and more recently spending time with his ‘mate’ (as much as he won’t admit she is,) Sargas.

Xyx Blackbriar No, this isn't the same Xyx, there's just multiples! Xyx enjoys just being in nature, gathering moa feathers, and looking at plants. He's clueless about plants, but he likes them.

Yaxa Oozemaw Yaxa likes to watch, and star in, sometimes, plays! She doesn't get to watch them often, but as soon as she's not on duty with Maw, she's looking for where to enjoy a good (or absolutely terrible) play.
