i’m not sure if i even have a process when creating them? or well, i guess i have habits, but i don’t always build up a character in the same ‘order’... for example, when it comes to ocs i make for shipping purposes i almost always start from the general concept. like, when i already know who their love interest is going to be, i pick the dynamic i like the most with said love interest and i get a general idea of what my oc’s outer personality is going to be; same thing about their look (because i love the idea of contrasting character designs). then i start from there and build a full character with their own story, motives, and so on to the point where they can exist outside of the ship (they won’t, but they could dsjksdjk)! some examples would be my ted lasso oc Jules, blooming panic mc’s or any of my anime oc (though the only ones actually well developed atm are Jun and Atsuko).

in other cases, as it often happens with interactive fiction, i go in blind and play with an ‘empty’ character, and as i check out the vibes of the story and see whether i like the bold or shy personality choices i get an idea of the general vibe of the oc. starting from the vibe i then pick a faceclaim (i have several saved lol) and a design/name/backstory/etc... until i can play again with a formed character! it’s a bit annoying to do it this way but once the first part is over it’s already so much easier to play because i just have to let the character be themself. it also helps in the case of ifs with a lot of romantic options, since i simply let the oc vibe and pick a ro they work with sdjkdskj best example is definitely my kim from body count, they got away from me and i love that for them. same with reyna from the when twilight strikes. it’s time (and energy)-consuming but most of the time this method leads to some most beloved characters of mine so i’m not mad about it.

the most challenging scenario is probably when i have to create a character from scratch/almost from scratch, so like, for original universes OR (rarely) for ifs without demos 🤔 the easiest route in these cases is usually picking whatever blorbo(s) are filling my brain at the time, mixing them up, adding some tropes i want, and then start from this sort of patchwork character and add details until it’s a proper original one lol this is how i got Freddie and his sister Ryuwon, respectively for the ifs ear candy and straight red. Freddie was originally a copypaste of an anime character, but they ended up having very different personalities in the end; i developed Freddie more when having fun with a friend and shipping our characters together, and because we made them as childhood friends i ended up developing Freddie’s whole family, including Ryu! It’s a bit different when it’s like, RO ocs for my own story ideas because in that case I don’t wanna be influenced by other characters so I just start with a patchwork of tropes i want to see (that’s what happened with Leir, while Odile was mostly born from a mix of gender feelings + BTS’ black swan obsession at the time 😂)

so yeah, this is usually how it goes for me! there are very few exceptions, such as Edith; she’s my most developed character of all time and yet she is Nothing like she was in the beginning. when i first started twc and had to make a character for it, the ‘edith blake’ i made was very um,,, girlboss? i don’t know how to say it in a nice way but she felt like a woman written by marvel/the mcu lmao i cringe just thinking back about it!! ever since, she went through so many changes that instead of evolving she’s simply a different character altogether. she now exists in a bunch of different aus (twc revised, the exile, original music shop au, cyberpunk dystopia au, cat cafe au, hallmark movie au, etc...) and she maintains consistent characterization in all of them so i feel like i have achieved full mastery of mx edith lol

or another exception would be, “characters that came to me in a dream”, like my demon oc Spice. obsessed with him, love his energy, but boy do i not know where tf he came out from 🤣

i was tagged in another music-related thing! i’m still working for a couple hours so bear with me 😅

i believe the prompt was the first ten songs on a shuffled playlist, and primarily i use just one playlist like for when i go driving (usually when im listening to stuff at home i just search for what im feeling and i don’t even use my playlist adhgkjdf) SO here i have the following:

1. Livin’ Thing by ELO - this is from their 1975 album which i adore because it also has Telephone Lines, but Livin’ Thing is also one of the ones everyone knows lol the whole album is heavy in the string section, but especially Livin’ Thing, it’s wonderful

2. Zombie (feat. Morgan Phalen) by Kavinsky - i really love this whole album and honestly Zombie is one of my favorites on it anyway, i always crank it up

3. Forest Fire by a-ha - this is from their 2015 album i think, and actually it’s one of two that are on this shuffled list lol

4. Laredo Tornado by ELO - from their 1974 album which is so much fun because it’s like a concept album (i know i’ve talked about it on here before) and THIS is actually my Eridunis song 🥰 or one of them!

5. Shadow Endeavors by a-ha - also from their 2015 album! tbh i tend to skip this song (sorry Mr. Harket) because it gets stuck in my head whether i listen to it or not agkfjkd i still love it though

6. Horizon by Kavinsky - again from the same album as above, but this is one of my other favorites anyway! i just love synthy songs man, can’t get enough of them

7. Closing Time by Leonard Cohen - it’s such a fun song, highly recommend!

8. I’m Leaving You by Jeff Lynne’s ELO - he made this in 2015 after getting the rights to ELO, the whole album is really great. i couldn’t listen to most of the songs on this album for a long long time because when i first listened, i was in my first year of university, and a lot of the songs are very nostalgic-sounding, so i was having a hard time listening to them without thinking about home and growing up and stuff. but now i listen to this album all the time!

9. Big Wheels by ELO - from their 1977 album (yes i’m listing these years off from memory, i’m that obsessed) AND part of what was called the “Concerto for a Rainy Day” (which was side 3 of the original album release) comprised of i BELIEVE “Standin’ in the Rain,” “Big Wheels,” “Summer and Lightning,” and “Mr. Blue Sky,” all in that order (and the songs lead into each other when you listen to them in that order!), and Big Wheels is sort of the most somber one out of all four but still really beautiful, highly highly recommend listening to the whole suite

10. Stuck on the Puzzle by Alex Turner - odd one out lol but this song i actually heard in my friend’s car several years ago on a short drive, and i had asked about it and found out it’s one of the Arctic Monkeys guys so that’s fun! and i loved the song so i’ve had it on my playlist ever since!

Heyyyy Tasfia 💕💕💕 I finally feel like I can use words again. 🥺🙃 I am about to word vomit all over you, sorry, but I think you’re used to it by now. 😆🥰 When I woke up yesterday and saw that you'd not only drawn the rings and hands but you'd done it like that--with the quote and them calling each other "husband" and the view of both sides of the ring and their hands on each other's cheeks and necks 🥺🥺🥺😍😍😍--I was just so overwhelmed. Your talent knows no bounds. It was perfect, and when Millie showed me the stills you used, they were spot on. I still can't believe I can tell the difference between their hands and know whose is whose without any other reference points. That's friggin amazing. There is no greater tribute or honor I can imagine than someone drawing something based on my fic, and honestly it's your design. I threw a whole bunch of random ideas at you, and you put it all together and created something beautiful that I was able to use in the fic. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your helping me with that again.🥰🥰 Kinda like the halloween costumes, I was really stuck on the rings, and knowing what they looked like was rather important (I'm not creative/imaginative like that--i honestly don't even know where the fic ideas are coming from bc i'm not a creative person, never have been—that’s probably why I credit Robbe and Sander for telling me what to do). I'm still mostly speechless about the whole thing bc it took me weeks to finally get the nerve to ask you for help with the rings. And then you came up with the design in a few hours and now this. It's just so cool and so amazing, and just uuuughhhhh, I LOVE IT SO MUCH IT HURTS!!! Thank you for being just the most wonderful, talented, kind person. 🥰💕💕

Side note: I'm still bowled over by you including the quote. Robbe and Sander being giddy about calling each other husband is one of my favorite things now. It's such a huge part of the chapter and Robbe's internal monologue and overall need for reassurance of his place, his roll in their family. They're adding another layer to their relationship but one that's permanent and one they chose and had complete control over (that's why Robbe likes the concept of tattoos better too, the choosing and permanence aspect), and it just makes me so 🥺🥺. Hey heyyyy Sorry i didn’t message yesterday I completely forgot lol but today has been a DAY a good day actually I went for a run and cleaned and cooked and sat down and wrote for a story that’s due in…five…days (I’m stressed about it I have so much work to do and I usually don’t focus very well so I can’t like…sit down and churn out three thousand words)
