on the topic of music and ship playlists - this is going to be wordy, i apologize in advance

not going to tag anyone here because it feels a bit silly with what i'm about to write, and the person who inspired me to think about this is likely going to see it anyway, lol, but yeah, the topic of how and why people associate songs with ships, characters, fics, individual scenes/moments is endlessly fascinating to me

so i wondered how exactly it is for me, realized that while most of them probably are just "general vibe" songs, there's various different reasons actually, and then this happened.

i wouldn't say that my fics have playlists, because it's mostly only a couple or three songs per fic, and how is that a playlist? lol but when i mention "my ship playlist(s)", what i'm referring to is 2 playlists that i have (that are split for no reason other than one is mostly synthwave and the other is all over the place) with every single song on them that relates to that ship for me, regardless of why/how. well, that ship being erisol obviously, because i guess that just happens to be my special interest or something(*)

maybe i'll make another post with specific examples of erisol songs, that might be more interesting to people lol. if you'd like to see that, especially if for any of the categories under the cut, let me know!

so anyway, because i'm an overly analytic specific idiot, i wanted to put this into words and keep a record (heh... a record) for myself if nothing else, i've tried to make it as concise as possible lmao. but so far, reasons for why a ship song is a ship song to me that i've identified are: (there is insanity under this cut)

1) the lyrics or specific parts of them... - 1.1 ... remind me of the ship in general (this is probably the most common one) - 1.2 ... describe feelings/thoughts i imagine one of the characters to be having for/about the other or their relationship, in general or in a specific fic i'm writing or a scene therein, sometimes as if one is addressing the other (3rd most common) - 1.3 ... remind me of one of the characters or their feelings about themselves in general ... fit or describe ... - 1.4 ... something about a specific fic - 1.5 ... a particular scene in a fic - 1.6 ... an aspect of one of the characters, their feelings/thoughts about themselves, or their feelings/thoughts about a situation in a specific fic 2) the general vibe of the music or theme of the song... - 2.1 ... makes me think of the ship, regardless of if the lyrics fit at all (2nd most common one) - 2.3 ... reminds me of one of the characters in general - 2.4 ... fits the general vibe/feel of a whole fic or a particular scene 2.3 and 2.4 often apply to instrumentals, but not only 3) the lyrics describe a situation or "tell a story", or the music has the vibe of a specific situation, that i could or would like to see the characters in, and it inspires me to fantasize about it or even write a story around it 4) very very rarely: it's a song that i think one of the characters would like

i hope all of that made sense, if it doesn't or it's too convoluted, please let me know lmao. you can probably tell i almost got a BA in sociology once

also at this point i would just like to say, i have ca. 31 unpublished erisol WIPs in addition to the 6 or so works i've posted on AO3

the fact that sonic x shadow generations costs 50 dollars makes me even more confused about the pricing for sonic superstars . because for a second there i thought they were going with the nintendo system of "all our games are 60 dollars now regardless of quality or content" now since frontiers also cost 60 and that price tag felt more reasonable there. but no sxs gens costs 50. which means that 60 Isnt the new default price for sonic games and they actually thought superstars was worth that much. okay

i need to sort out my wardrobe again because theres a ton of stuff i dont wear anymore and even some pieces i completely forgot about but its so hard when some stuff has memories.. or alternatively, stuff i havent even worn more than 1-2 times and dont really feel like it, but if i saw it now for sale i would still want to get it ugh. also its funny how i bought a lot of my stuff when i first got a card at 16 and i keep cycling back to those clothes. some got too worn out but theres some pieces that are just perfect still and usually the newer stuff i bought i dont wear much
