(Sleep Edition!)

(Request here! Honestly, I’m surprised it took me so long to use an ICP song for Turbo, something about him just screams Juggalo, probably the paper white skin or the innate violent impulsivity🔑, I dunno lol)

- Alright so, even unconscious Turbo is selfish, an absolute blanket hog, and you’d think with how small the guy is he wouldn’t take as much of bed space but he does, spreading his limbs out like he’s a fat cat who just ate a good portion of some cat kibble earlier.

- I think he’d be a snorer, but like, usually when he’s on his back and it isn’t obnoxious, no loud sleep apnea snoring here.

- Much like everything else, it takes a while for him to get used to sleeping with you whenever you guys can without necessities of working or doing some other things after hours.

- In my opinion I think the need for sleep for the game characters of Wreck-It Ralph is far less important seeing how after hours they display little to no sleep deprivation all throughout the movie even though it spans roughly 2 nights filled with action and 2 work days.

- So this may be a rare occurrence, but it’s certainly not impossible, considering with the existence of Tapper’s in which we see these game characters drinking, meaning they may have ways to both gain and lose energy.

- Despite this, Turbo I think would be less inclined to exercise a healthy sleeping routine, just having so much to do and wanting to have every moment awake to prove to him and others around him that he is worthy of the title of the beloved game protagonist of Mr. Litwak’s arcade.

- Those eye bags and more unhealthy disposition in comparison to the art on the side of his arcade cabinet says all that needs to be known.

- Which adds to his easily agitated demeanor, so, possibly, maybe, I dunno, getting him to finally fucking sleep after who knows how long makes him chill the fuck out for once.

- Afterwards, he doesn’t verbally thank you for it, typical, too stubborn to admit he was the wrong one in this situation but shows his thanks the next time you disregard your health, calling you stupid among other things while either metaphorically or literally dragging you away from what’s making you unhealthy.

- Inevitably, much like many of the aspects of your relationship he comes to like having sleeping sessions with you, having you beside him while he’s in one of his vulnerable states.

- He doesn’t like being seen as weak and it shows consciously and unconsciously, so having someone whose opinion and perspective of him matters to him seeing him like that displays something he probably never thought would ever do— To be truly trusting of someone beyond himself.

- To be with him alone is something he doesn’t expect from anyone, let alone you— A part of him knows he’s not exactly the best when it comes to another person’s emotions, whether intentional or not.

- So someone like you who shows genuine interest in and keeps showing that rocks him to the very core at times, a kind pang of emotion he doesn’t know how to comprehend just yet.

- Again he hides this with hostility at times, threatening you a bit so you don’t tell anyone of this self-perceived weakness.

- Paralleling him to a cat once more when I say, you can’t force this— He doesn’t hang on your every word or action, he needs to be eased into this new normal and be given consistent reassurance that you are what you portray, ironic isn’t it?

- I think he slowly comes to be truly comfortable with you sleeping with him, but I don’t see him cozying up to you easily, he’s just a naturally rigid guy.

- However I don’t think he’s a block of ice completely, he does have the capacity and does hold onto you whenever you’re in bed with him after some gentle coaxing.

- Talking him to sleep is a common thing during these moments, something about being softly spoken to lulling the racer to sleep eventually.

- He’s a crippling insomniac and no one can tell me otherwise, just look at him.

- This is a very interesting way you guys bond, it isn’t over the top or over-complicated, it’s you and him sharing a sweet moment.

hyunjin's reputation among idols

based on tarot. i do not know these idols personally. energies are always changing. what i say is NOT straight fact. pls take it with a grain of salt!

their energy was crazy. i just casually started tearing up and getting weirdly sentimental while writing this, so.. definitely some strong emotion present here? also immediately thought of the song mentioned above. especially the “i used to think you were shy, but maybe you just had nothing on your mind. maybe you were thinking about yourself all the time.” line.

so, hyunjin's reputation among female idols doesn't look great persé. he's viewed as a guy who's likely to have flirted with anyone fitting his idea of attractive. a bit of a ladies' man, who for sure enjoys the ego-stroking that comes with female validation. he's great at these short but emotional flings, meaning in the moment he's great at deceiving and deluding people into him being serious about it. there is this huge perception of him just being kinda.. delusional and unrealistic, living in a dream world of his own and willingly wearing these rose-colored glasses. if hyunjin connects to you romantically, he's amazing at dragging you with him into that world. like dating (? or hooking up? energy is mostly physical with this perception of a shortlived emotional bond) with him can be a bit of a rollercoaster.. with an irresistible high, and the following disappointing low. definitely a certain addictiveness to it. he knows his powers and what he can do to people, how he can use them to his own advantage.

he's very good at appearing a certain way but being another. meaning he puts on this prince charming on a white horse act, but once you look beyond that, or you just get close enough to knowing his actual self, he's much more selfish and greedy for his own good, than you'd expect. many female idols have this view of him as someone who only enters connections in order to gain something for himself, mostly validation. he puts a lot of importance into superficial things, such as fame, popularity, reputation, image, money, power.. they think he struggles finding true emotional fulfilllment, doesn't really know what he sincerely needs and is disconnected to his inner voice. he therefore just goes on hopping from one person to another. pretty bad at committing to relationships. he's great at entertaining the idea of them, but doesn't live up to the idea in reality. he's very in or out, not always available. prone to ghosting people out of nowhere and not recognizing or not wanting to acknowledge the toxicity behind his actions.

he's not very self-aware in their eyes. he hates confronting or acknowledging certain realities and therefore runs away from them. like he just runs away from his problems essentially. doesn't take accountability for his actions. hyunjin is a bit like an immature and irresponsible child to them. he gets afraid to admit to his mistakes because he's scared to get hurt, or make himself appear weak or flawed. some of them think it's pathetic. (they're very harsh in their judgement for sure lol)

there are some female idols though, who view him as mysterious and intriguing, and very desirable too. they think he has a strong presence, and he has this aura to him that awakens your interest, makes you wonder who he truly is. i can sense he's probably someone who does most of the approaching (surprisingly straightforward and direct) but doesn't have many people actually approach him, since he doesn't have very accessible energy. there's a good portion of female idols just staring at him like 🫢😯 and whispering and gossiping. they look at him as this unapproachable guy full of mystery, someone they can't figure out.

so, male idols look at hyunjin in a lighter manner. opinions do seem to vary though.

he's someone who's also just kinda in and out in their eyes. like at one point, you'll be with him, enjoying his company and seeming like you became pretty close, in the next he'll just be gone and unreachable. he's someone unpredictable and moody to them, like you never really know what phase in life he'll be in. someone very sensitive and easily affected by external influences, who therefore naturally goes through many ups and downs in life. however, they think he doesn't really let people in when it comes to his internal world. he's good at the superficial connections, i can see him being a lot of fun at parties, but many male idols feel like they don't actually know him as well as they think.

however additionally, there is this perception of him being.. overly sensitive. like do not touch hyunjin when he's going through something. some male idols think he's way too easily stressed out about things, makes a big deal out of everything, constantly self-sabotages and creates himself problems when there's none. in their eyes, he's a bit of a pain in the ass in this way. like just unbearable. you won't get him to open up easily, but once he does, he'll probably puke all his concerns out in hours and overwhelm the hell out of the person he's with.

but i have to say, he has an immense amount of respect from his peers in a professional manner. many male idols think he's the stand-out member in stray kids. they think it's impressive how he's been able to pave himself a way and reputation of his own. a lot of approval and acknowledgement of his not only his abilities, but also his efforts career-wise. it's giving this role model among quite a few idols, especially rookies. i can tell there's this tendency for them to be in awe of group members who just stand out and have these main-character vibes among the rest. many of them would like to imitate hyunjin's career trajectory and are eager to reach a similar reputation professionally. he has this image of having fulfilled his dreams with his own efforts, probably because of them turning him into the main dancer of the group, rather than him being “born talented”. the professional applause for hyunjin is something that's for sure spread among the majority of male idols. his career is very commendable and praiseworthy in their eyes.

Summary: Marta panics as Blanc grows closer to finding out the truth; Ransom decides he's going to have to calm her down if they're ever going to pull this off.

Author's Notes: This fanfic takes place in an AU where Ransom ISN'T the one behind the murder plot (he's still a bit of an ass, though) and can be considered a very loose sequel to my first Knives Out fic.

Requested by the lovely @otomiyaa! I hope you enjoy what I've come up with!

The diner was mostly empty now, save for a few tired patrons nursing the last of their cups of coffee. The sound of the overhead lights buzzing was almost deafening, their warm yellow glow hardly comforting. Marta's fingers trembled around the edges of her half-eaten toast, any semblance of hunger long gone. She hadn’t realized just how much she was shaking until she saw the crumbs falling from her hands, tiny flecks that seemed to echo the panic building in her chest. Across from her, Ransom fidgeted absentmindedly with a straw wrapper, eyes flicking up to meet hers every so often.

All things considered, their confrontation had went fairly well, with Ransom even agreeing to help her throw the cops off her scent (in exchange for his portion of the inheritance; of course RANSOM would be at least a little motivated by selfishness). Still, the reality of the situation continued to sing in the longer they sat there, and the pure difficulty of the task at hand weighed on Marta like an anvil.

Ransom leaned back in his chair, his eyes half-lidded, a smirk playing at the corner of his lips. He was staring at her with a calculating gaze now, like a predator that had caught the scent of something delicious.

"You’re falling apart, sweetheart." He said, his voice low, but there was an unmistakable edge of amusement in it. "And I think you know it, too."

Marta swallowed hard, trying to gather her thoughts. Her mind was a mess of tangled threads, but the one thing that stood out above all else was the tightening noose around her neck. Detective Benoit Blanc had been closer than ever to piecing everything together. The way his eyes flicked to her whenever a new tidbit of information came to light, the quiet, almost imperceptible suspicion that had started to line his words; it was all coming to a head. And she had no idea how to stop it. How could she?

"I didn’t..." Marta began, but her voice faltered as she caught the look in Ransom's eyes. He was studying her now, his usual cocky demeanor replaced by something darker, something more serious. He wasn’t making fun of her anymore. There was a sense of...concern in his piercing blue eyes, an emotion she had never expected to see from the man.

Ransom leaned forward slightly, his elbows resting on the table, fingers tapping against the worn surface. "Look..." He began, softer now, almost a little too gently. "We can’t afford for you to fall apart right now. Blanc is THIS close to putting two and two together." He held up his thumb and index finger, nearly touching. "You get me? We need to stay calm, stay cool. If you lose it now, we’re screwed."

Marta’s eyes flickered between his, the tension in her shoulders growing tighter. "I-I don’t know what to do." She admitted, her voice cracking. She could feel bile rising up in the back of her throat, the pure anxiety of the situation on the verge of making her sick. "What if he figures it out? What if he-"

"Hey." Ransom’s tone shifted, sharp but not unkind. He reached across the table and placed his hand over hers, stilling the frantic motion of her fingers. The warmth of his touch should have been comforting, but all Marta could feel was a rising tide of dread, and the faintest flicker of disbelief at how someone like Ransom Drysdale could possibly be of any comfort.

"You listen to me." He said, his voice dropping to a near whisper, the intensity of his gaze never wavering. "You did what you had to do. You covered your tracks. Blanc’s smart, sure, but so are you. You didn’t mean to switch up the meds, and you don’t deserve to go down for this. You’re NOT going down for this. Not if I can help it. We're going to bury anything that could lead back to you, got it? Leave no stone unturned."

Martha watched as Ransom stood up, moving to slip into the seat next to her. His suddenly proximity caught the woman off-guard; Ransom had never been the touchy-feely type, and yet here he was, moving closer as if to comfort her. Should she feel comforted? Or like a rabbit caught in a snare?

She met his gaze, searching for something, anything, in his eyes to hold onto. But all she saw was that same determined spark. Ransom was used to running things, used to being in control, and she realized with a sickening jolt that he might be the only person who could keep her from falling apart entirely.

"But...how?" She whispered, too afraid to speak the thought in her head aloud. What if they couldn’t keep up the charade? What if Blanc just...figured it out, no matter what?

"How?" Ransom repeated, his smirk making a reappearance, though it was tinged with something more dangerous now. "Well, it starts with you. you, Marta, you’re going to keep it together. Because if you don’t, this whole thing falls apart." He leaned closer, his voice lowering. "Do you want that? Do you want to see everything you’ve worked for crumble?"

Her breath hitched, and she realized he wasn’t just talking about the inheritance, or her future. He was talking about her life, her future as a free woman. She couldn’t lose that. Not now. Not when she’d already come so far.

"No." She said, her voice small, but steadying.

Ransom’s hand gave hers a light squeeze, his eyes softening for a brief moment, before the familiar smugness returned. "Good. But just 'trying' isn’t enough. You’ve got to DO it. You’ve got to look Blanc in the eye and make him think you’ve got nothing to hide. You’ve got to play it smart. And, sweetheart, you ARE smart. Just stay calm. Breathe. We’ve got this."

Marta exhaled shakily, feeling her pulse still hammering in her chest, but there was something in Ransom’s words that made her feel just a little bit more grounded. For all his flaws, for all his cynicism, Ransom had a way of making her believe that maybe, just maybe, they could pull this off.

Ransom's smile widened as he registered the minute relaxation of her facial muscles. "See, there you go. Still, you kinda look like somebody has a gun pressed against your forehead. Let me help with that."

Before she could react, Ransom's hands found their way to her sides. For a moment, she thought he was trying to feel her up, and the woman had half a mind to punch him. But then, his fingers curled inwards, beginning to wiggle gently into the tender flesh. Marta's eyes widened in shock, a squeak escaping her lips before she had a prayer of stopping it.

Ransom chuckled, looking far too pleased with himself. "Ticklish, Cabrera?" He asked.

Marta glanced around the diner nervously, a grin already wobbling onto her lips as she tried to hold back nervous giggles. "Rahansom, cut it out! What if somebody sees?" She hissed, ears turning a lovely shade of red.

"Then they'll think we're just a happy couple goofing off while we wait on our check." The other replied, a bit too smugly. His fingers began to wiggle a little quicker, exerting more pressure as they danced down towards her waist. "You know, I seem to recall SOMEBODY teasing me about my own...sensitivities. About a year ago, if my memory is correct. Ring any bells?"

Of course the bastard was teasing her. She should have known her little stunt would come back to bite her in the ass, though this was hardly how she would have imagined it happening.

"Shuhuhuhut up! Gehehehet off of mehehehehehe!" A flood of giggles started pouring past Marta's lips when Ransom took to squeezing at her hips, a few fingers slipping up to scribble over her stomach. "Rahahahahansom!"

By now, a few patrons were glancing their way, though the bemused looks on their faces only proved Ransom's earlier point. From the outside looking in, they were just a young couple goofing around, nothing more. It was almost comforting, in a way, albeit extremely embarrasing.

Marta squealed when Ransom leaned in closer, crooning into her ear. "Feeling more relaxed now, doll face? Or do I need to make you snort in front of all these lovely folks just trying to enjoy their meal?"

A flash of movement outside the diner caught her eye, and Marta froze. Through the foggy window, she saw Benoit Blanc walking toward the entrance.

Her heart dropped to her stomach, and panic surged once more. She opened her mouth, ready to desperately hiss at Ransom to stop, but the other had already taken notice of their impending visitor. He stopped his movements, Marta still shaking with residual giggles.

"Now or never, Marta." Ransom murmured, his hand still on hers, his voice low but firm. After a moment, he stood up, slipping back into the seat across from her. "If he asks, we met to share some stories about gramps. Share our grief, got that?"

Martha's mouth went dry as she nodded.

The door swung open, and Blanc stepped inside, his piercing gaze immediately seeking them out. Marta’s breath hitched in her throat, but she straightened, forcing her shoulders back, trying to find her center again. She could do this. She had to.

"Detective Blanc." Ransom greeted with his usual insufferable charm, standing up and offering the man a wide grin. "Fancy running into you here."

Blanc’s gaze flickered over the two of them, a silent question in his eyes. He said nothing at first, simply observing, before his lips twitched with an almost imperceptible smile.

"Mr. Drysdale. Miss Cabrera." He said, his southern drawl thick with curiosity. "I trust you’re both doing well?"

Marta smiled stiffly, forcing the words out as calmly as she could. "Yes, thank you, Detective."

"I thought you two didn't get along very well?" Blanc questioned, eyebrows raised as he slipped his hands into his coat pockets. "Yet here you are, sharing a nice meal together."

"Marta invited me to lunch; hoped we could talk about gramps for a bit."

"Is that so?" The older man asked, glancing at Marta for confirmation, who offered a strained smile and nod in return. She could feel her palms getting sweaty, that all too familiar urge to hurl churning in her stomach.

"You saw the shitshow that went down when my dear family heard the news about the will; poor gal just wanted someone to talk to that wasn't going to bribe or threaten her." Ransom continued, taking a sip of his coffee. His eyes met hers once more, silently signaling for her to chime in.

"Yes, I felt it was best to leave the rest of the Thrombey family to handle their grief and...shock, but I needed someone to talk to...and...Ransom came through." Not a complete lie, she could do this.

Blanc’s eyes lingered on her a moment longer than necessary, and her stomach twisted in knots. But he said nothing more, merely nodding and wishing them a good evening before turning instead to settle into the booth across the room.

As Blanc ordered his coffee and glanced down at his phone, Marta felt her heartrate slowly begin to return to normal. She looked to Ransom, who shot her a smile that looked almost proud. "What did I tell you? Just stay cool, and we'll get through this." He said, voice low but reassuring.

For once, Martha allowed herself to believe him.

A few notes: Aglais is a genuinely kind and easy-going person who, as a Qunari growing up in Nevarra, learned very quickly she had to seem as inoffensive and friendly as possible, and as an overachiever she can't admit she's struggling. So I read some traits such as unkempt appearance as leaning more towards non-threatening look, decisiveness as fake-it-til-you-make-it display of confidence and feeling inadequate as something she keeps very close to her chest. Some negative traits that are not in the list are a tendency towards well-meaning manipulation, and using humor to deflect even when the situation calls for sincerity.

[Warning: This comment is long, but hopefully, it's as informative as it is critical of the video. I do not intend to be antagonistic, but I am very critical.]

This video is frustrating in soooo many ways. I see all the best intent in this video and I generally agree with the overall outlook that trans women are frequently portrayed poorly in anime (including Re:Zero) and treated poorly by both the Japanese otaku crowd and the non-Japanese transphobic fetishist crowd, but you've hit some stumbles here I think are necessary to touch on. Let me explain by starting with a disclaimer for context:

I'm not Japanese, but I am a professional translator, I've lived in Japan for a major portion of my life, I specialize in Asian studies (and have a background in studying Japanese history and religion, both in Japan and in the US), I'm a trans woman, and I have the pleasure of being friends with individuals in the Japanese queer community. I'm also a fan of Japanese media, definitely anime, and I really enjoy Re:Zero (especially the novels). In fact, I find the series exceptionally well-written and Ferris' character exceptional as well.

I'll start with the center question first and branch from there.

1) Schrodinger's Trans.

It's definitely complicated. Ferris "identifies" themself as a "boy" often in public. The author clearly identifies Ferris as a "boy" in all canon material. But just as you quoted from the first EX novel, Ferris displays signs of gender dysphoria. They call themself a "bishoujo" in the mirror every day when they wake up, and in fact (surprised you failed to mention this), they even specify that they are relieved and grateful for their mother's genes specifically because they don't grow facial or body hair and their face and body curves are feminine. If that wasn't enough, they hid the "boy" secret from their other best friend (the prince) for years, right up to a reveal scene in the novel itself. That friend thought Ferris was a girl for years and Ferris explicitely admits this was less a prank and more a selfish indulgence. By all accounts, that's what most medical experts would call "gender dysphoria" and I think it's fine to leave it at that. Is Ferris trans, though? Not all trans people have gender dysphoria, but are all gender dysphoric people trans? ...I suppose you can argue that they are, but I've read plenty a personal experience from gender dysphoric cis people who disagree, so... I can't say with certainty and I don't think anyone should assert so, as this video does. My own personal conclusion and assumptions are my own, but I see Ferris' character more as a gender bend concept taken to its logical conclusion by an author who intuitively understands gender dysphoria, but knows nothing about trans people. I don't think anyone should be jumping to apply real world medical diagnoses (like dysphoria) on fictional characters written by blissfully ignorant authors who live in a completely different culture. I see people do this with, for instance, characters they think are autistic, and that's fine and dandy to interpret your own rep when actual rep is lacking in media (god knows it's lacking), but... we gotta step back a bit and be more self aware that this is not an interpretation to hold over others' heads.

2) Ferris' name.

You got this one explicitely wrong. "Ferris" and "Felix" are not clever differences in romanizations from the Japanese novels. They're entirely different names in the Japanese novels. "Ferris" is フェリス ("ferisu") and "Felix" is フェリックス ("ferikkusu"). Spelling and pronunciation are completely different. And while "Felix" is definitely a "dead name", the reason Ferris changed their name is because not only is the name too masculine, but it was also the name given to them by their absolute garbage existence of a father, who Ferris wants nothing to do with anymore. I won't spoil what happens in the EX novel, but Ferris' vow regarding their name is explicitely intended to reject their father's namesake and adapt their beloved late mother's sensibilities.

3) Japan and "duty". "Propaganda" is a strong word and considering I've been a part of Japan (attending school and working) for so much of my life and I've retroactively studied the culture and history in a formal academic setting for nearly as long, I think a bit of a non-Western-enlightenment-centric lesson is in order here. Japan is a country that generally prides itself on 和 ("wa", harmony, peace). And as the saying goes, "With 理 ("ri", reason, duty) comes 令 ("rei", order), and with 令 comes 和." It's based on old Chinese/Confucius philosophy and Japan's history is ripe with strife and conflict permeated by periods of 和 seen as golden ages in the history books tailored to school kids and the general public. Unsurprisingly, much like the Western idealism in individuality that has been used to justify systemic racism, abuse of power, class wars, etc., Japan's cultural/societal use of 理 has been used to justify wars, power, and definitely the oppression of minorities, including LGBTQ+ people. But in the West, our individualism is also seen by minorities as essential to our identities, history, and cause. It is inseperable from our cultural identities, whether we like it or not. Japan's 理 is the same. I don't know a single queer person in Japan (friend group, extended friend group, academic essays, literature, or otherwise) who doesn't value 理 to the same diverse, yet core extent that Westerners value individualism. I think anyone who has been split between Japan and the US all their life as I have can probably sympathize with the internal conflict between our two cultural identities. You're so damningly aware of how the orderly needs of others impedes on your personal needs and vice versa and these two things are hard to reconcile with each other because they're dynamically opposed, yet both are extremely valuable to you.

Ultimately, on that last point, I'm just hitting back at the "it's propaganda" aspect of "duty" as cited by the author of the video. Hand-waving Re:Zero's author as having fallen victim to or [potentially] propagating "duty" propaganda as an excuse is extremely over-simplifying the issue with Ferris as a written subject and Japanese culture as a whole.

I do think your heart was in the right place and I'm fine with treating the video as a personal approach to a complicated topic, but as a trans woman who is on the fence regarding Ferris' canon "transness" (hence why I've been using they/them pronouns), I would rather approach this from the angle that the author inadvertently created a character who trans people can sympathize with, but didn't intend the character to be trans. Which means this isn't really a debate about whether Ferris is trans, but rather a debate about how much value we place on an author's words, contextually and paratextually, and how that affects our experience of and engagement with the work. Essentializing bigots for "not accepting" Ferris as trans and "misgendering" the character only serves to act as a self-righteous interpretation of a work we have no agency over. Also, it's fiction. If misgendering angers you, use that energy on people deliberately misgendering and fetishizing real people who deserve and need that basic consideration. I love Ferris with all my heart regardless of their canon gender, but they are an exemplatory case study in a vast sea of problematic queer rep in media.

P.S. - I do find it weird that Ferris' gender comes up as a topic of debate within Re:Zero's queer-friendly spaces, but no one talks about Crusch? Crusch was just as explicitely demonstrated in the same EX novel to have rejected their womanhood. We don't get the same first-person camera lens or inner monologue as Ferris, but we don't need it because Crusch is more brash and open about it. The only reason they dawn a dress on special occasions like they did in the main story and anime is due to [spoilers] in that EX novel (for better or worse). Either way, Crusch is said to be the most manly Duke/Duchess in their family's history and Crusch says that is intentional. It's very clear that Crusch and Ferris are intended to be two opposite sides of the same coin. I may have personally critiques about how the author treats their gender, but their dynamic together is absolutely fantastic and I will die on that ship--er, hill.

Propaganda under the cut!

He's the villain in everyone else's route, and even in his own he's STILL kind of a dick. Like, everything bad he did before the game begins happens exactly the same, and it's only when he begins that he gets better (as in he regrets his actions and tries to fix it (it being a plague. He caused a plague because he wanted more power. (Spoilers: the plague killed the MC))). All the other romanceable characters still hate him tho so that's good. The one thing he's got going for him is that in one ending, he stepped down from being the count (idk about the other)

He literally caused a plague that kills thousands of people including THE PLAYER 😭 LIKE HE LITERALLY KILLS YOU DAWG

He is simply the worst. I'm pretty sure he purposefully infected his kingdom with the plague. He made a deal with the devil maybe. Gonna be real with you I haven't finished his storyline.

He has directly tortured or somehow harmed all the other romancable characters and every other route tries to kill the mc to take over their body, is also responsible for a plague that killed a large portion of his kingdom and *spoiler* killed the MC

I'll admit I haven't played his route but that's cause he's such a pathetic icky man that I don't think I actually can. And I pride myself in completing every route. I know people like their pathetic meow meows but I want to hit him with a brick

He acts as a manchild who needs someone to guide him through life and show him the difference between right and wrong when I'm pretty sure he's in his forties or fifties. He also abuses his power to do horrible things to people he's not in a romantic relationship with, which should tell you a lot about him.

Dude, he SUCKS. He's the villain in every other route. He's a horrible husband, he forced Muriel to fight for his entertainment, he makes deals that he can't pay for. He threatens and pouts and is obsessed with people loving him. I've been with the Arcana since the very beginning and he wasn't meant to be a romance option, but the writers basically went with it because there was such a demand. So embarrassing to see Lucio fans being like Lucio did nothing wrong ever. Falling all over themselves to blame his mom or Nadia or Asra or anyone else for Lucio's selfishness and shitty behavior. It was peak uwu he's A BABY fan dementia that excuses all his shitty actions because nothing was his fault. The only sane Lucio fans are the ones that are like "he sucks so much <3 I can make him worse."

He's literally described by the devs as flaming trash. He is literally only nice in his route and the main antagonist (or at the very least a jerk) in every other route. he was a very bad husband to ex-wife. he is literally - and with 0 exaggeration- a plague upon the country he ruled. he's also a grown man who calls his fuck ups "oopsies" and honestly, i love him but that gives me the ick.

Cullen Rutherford

stupid racist cop creep whose fans cry about how hes "changed" and "you can't judge him he was addicted to magic drugs" nah he still chose to be a racist cop and abuse his power over innocent people and i hate him. the writers making him romanceable in da:i after how blatantly horrible he was in da:o and da:2 is baffling but i guess they had to appeal to the part of their audience who watch those "mafia boyfriend" videos on tiktok or whatever

He's creepy in origins, though still 100% willing to kill the female mage pc he's crushing on, as well as all the other mages trapped in the circle with him. He's the second-in-command in an even worse circle in 2, listening to and defending the increasingly obviously insane meredith until literally the end. He's one of the people still pushing for the circle system by inquisition, and yes he's going through withdrawals and working through the traumas of previous games. And to be brutally honest his was the first romance i took and while i don't remember much from it, its not worth all the girls going absolutely nuts over knockoff terrible alistair.

He's basically a cop who thinks being born a certain way can revoke personhood and by Inquisition still thinks mages are monsters to be controlled, not people. He gets a fairy tale cutesy romance that focuses on his personal struggles with addiction while showing absolutely no regard to the atrocities he committed and still thinks were justified. He can be romanced BY A MAGE and his actions and beliefs are just glossed over. He believes mages are 'not people like you (Hawke) and me', but if the Warden was a female mage he canonically had a crush on her and would deliberately hang around her despite the fact that he was her *jailer*. If that Warden romanced Leliana, there is war table dialogue in which he pesters Leliana for news of his 'former' crush despite her repeated statement that she doesn't want to talk to him about her. All this shitty behavior and lack of introspection gets swept under the rug by the game, not even giving the PC the chance to really challenge his beliefs. Like damn even Fenris could apologize when he lashed out due to past trauma with mages, and if anyone has a reason to hate mages it's Fenris. If you want an ex Templar hottie Alistair is RIGHT THERE. Tbh I know Cullen is a popular romance and I'm not here to tell anyone what they can or can't do or like in a video game, I'm just saying I think he is deeply undateable

Spends the first two games as an antagonist, fervently devoted to the cause of subjugating mages, then a bunch of "character development" happens off screen and the games treat him like he's completely reformed. However he's actions make it clear he still sees mages as dangerous and lesser. Not to mention if you romance him with an elf he doesn't pay your culture more than lip service respect like most of the devout characters 

He was a total villain in the first two games who was violently prejudiced against mages and uses one single bad experience as an excuse for it (a bad experience that is pretty much exactly what he in his job subjected graduating apprentices to, mind you, but this is never brought up). Now he says he's changed, but his words and actions say otherwise. He still distrusts mages, sympathises with the rebel Templars trying to kill them, and he never owns up to the terrible stuff he did and helped others do in the past two games. He totally knew what Meredith was doing and says he doesn't, and he still tries to defend her intentions. And you have no option to call him out on it. If you romance him as a mage, he angsts about how he might have seen you as subhuman in the past but NOW you're one of the good ones, and when you ask him if he'll kill you if you get possessed, he dodges the question. And the PC is written as being almost sad that she's a mage? Like 'can you love me despite what I am??' Also if Leliana romanced a female mage PC in the first game who is still alive, he asks her creepy questions about their relationship. Fitting considering his original purpose was to be creepy to the female mage Warden. 

I hate him and want to cause chaos. Plus his VA is an asshole.

I completely understand and even support what he's trying to accomplish. Solomon wants humans to be viewed as equals because yes, we aren't the weaklings that demons and angels may think we are. We are strong, resilient, tenacious, and special in our own ways. We can be just as cruel and devious as demons, but also just as genuinely kind and compassionate as angels. We all possess those qualities.

From a personal standpoint, though... As disgustingly selfish as this is, why would I as an individual ever choose to turn my back against the demons who have pretty much become my family who I deeply love and cherish just to instigate or support a war where I would be siding with humanity as a whole? Because I'm a human? No thanks, I'll pass.

!! Potential Spoilers Ahead !!

I know in this specific timeline, the brothers aren't close with us like they are in the OG game. But that doesn't change my feelings for them nor all of the events and shenanigans we've been through with them.

Also, maybe Solomon is forgetting or simply ignorant to these very important facts :

How many times did MC risk their life for the brothers?

MC gave a portion of their lifeforce to Beel in the Reaper's Cave. MC (was given the choice to) stab themselves in order to spare Lucifer's life. MC also forgave Belphie for legit killing them/a version of themselves. Just to name a few.

MC also supported all of the brothers so many times, and they all supported, defended, and protected MC in return.

Sure, that was all in the "present" timeline. But it still happened as far as I'm concerned.

And let's not forget the fact that Lucifer and his brother's lowkey threatened to dismember Solomon if he doesn't bring MC back safe and sound. So again... Why would I turn my back on their past versions just because demons or angels as a whole may not view humans as "equal"?

To be perfectly fair, some humans are pretty despicable. I've had more bad experiences than not with humans, some of which who were supposed to love and protect me yet did the complete opposite. I still continue to see the bad in some humans just through their words and actions (or lack thereof). While that may not be all of humanity's fault, it still has left me with deep scars and a long lasting negative/biased opinion on humans, society, and humanity.

And as far as humans being viewed as equal... I think it would be much more impactful and significant for individual humans to directly prove to demons and angels just how worthy of recognition they truly are. Solomon and MC can both do that together instead of instigating an all out war.

Just look at how much MC accomplished in OG Obey Me! Lucifer, Mammon, Levi, Satan, Asmo, Beel, Belphie, Barbatos, Diavolo, Solomon, and Simeon are all "dateable".

Why would a demon or an angel want to romance a human if they didn't view that human as an equal? They all even say how special MC is. That's a perfect opportunity for MC to dangle the fact that they are indeed human in front of the boys, yet they still have feelings for MC regardless. In other words : "admit humans are just as capable as demons and angels, or call yourself a hypocrite right here and now".

Not only that, but their current actions could affect the present, right? Then why would we even entertain the idea of going to war with them? How would that affect the present and MC's relationships with the brothers, Diavolo, Barbatos, and Simeon?

So yeah... You have my deepest apologies, Solomon, but you are completely alone on this one. I could never bring myself to turn my back on the brothers, even if they all wanted me dead.

And honestly, I think the game is also hinting that MC won't go along with Solomon's plan or will at least try to find an alternative solution, considering we were given the choice to hand the grimoire over to Lucifer instead of using it on him (even though he was legit threatening us moments beforehand)

We'll have to wait to see what happens next, but as it stands right now... I applaud Solomon's drive and desire for humanity to stand next to demons and angels rather than remain beneath them... But I'm definitely not on board with what he's asking of us.

He would have a better chance at asking me to side with him directly instead of humanity as a whole, since I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to Solomon. But still, you can count me out, my eccentric and misinformed teacher ~

Saris is someone who believes strongly in his convictions and is willing to stand up for them which can come across as very direct at times. He also rarely had funds growing up, so suddenly having an influx of gold meant he spent it readily, generally on other people rather than himself. He has poor impulse control, but we're working on that, and I think by the end of Veilguard he was a little calmer and would take a moment to think before jumping feet first into situations.

Oh! Of course!

Frankly I haven't done much world building for it, since I have other AUs who are utter attention whores and life just LOVES to make me unable to draw for some stupid reason or another. But I do have some simple concepts I would love to share! If you feel like you can bare my aimless rambling, feel free to read the rest under the cut.

First off, setting. Generally speaking, Neo Chaos Sonic's timeline takes place after the events of Season 2's finale and the early portion of season 3's episode one.

But instead of Building Alpha Grim Sonic after a lot of dilly dallying on Nine's part, he decides to fight fire with fire. (And maybe he's a little scared of being alone, although he would never admit it.)

So he rebuilds Chaos Sonic instead. And to insure that he'll be able to beat Sonic, Nine decided to give him untethered access to the Paradox Prism.

This of course leads to Chaos Sonic deeming his normal build being to... Easy to deal with. And he is allowed a modicum of freewill by Nine. So who is he if he does not ascend to godhood to ensure the plan's execution? It's gonna be a temporary upgrade. And Nine did give him full access to the Paradox Prism.

Leading to this beautiful outcome!

It's a MAJOR upgrade. And it comes with a hip skirt! And who is she to go against a hip skirt?

After choosing a new form of befitting of his newly born Goddess status, NCS decides to make the Grim their perfect little paradise. Their powers are simple, as she is all powerful but not all knowing or anything.

NCS can change their appearance however she sees fit. Although due to his vanity, he mostly stays hedgehog robot shaped. And generally before war is brought to her doorstep, she just stands about as tall as NMS would. So they definitely Tower over Sonic and Nine easily. They also can pool liquid metal off of them and when the liquid metal touches the ground, they become Grim Sonic Troopers. All of which seem to reflect different small aspects of her personality. Also she has glitter beams and shit. He's a magical girl, they gotta have their glitter attacks.

After a while of their new arrangement, NCS stops referring to Nine as either "Best bud" or "Sir". And starts calling him Martyr or Prophet. Treating Nine as a prized possession and less like a friend or even someone they wish to protect and keep happy.

Nine isn't initially concerned about this though. Since he's certain that they are still loyal to him. Which is true, he is. But ultimately that loyalty does not outweigh her natural selfishness.

I believe that inevitably, there will come to pass a point where Neo Chaos Sonic decides to "sacrifice" Nine to herself. If only to make Sonic run a fool's errand. If you know ANYTHING about the ending of KH3 and the whole "Save the 7" segment with Riku? Like that. (For those who don't know, imagine Nine floating above an altar of some sort with his body partially transparent blue.)

I don't really know if Sonic and Co from prime would succeed, since I really just designed Neo Chaos Sonic for the sake of designing him. But I would say that in order to take down Neo, Sonic would need to brace the abyss™️ to find Shadow's missing Chaos Emerald. Since I'm a wedger a bet that Shadow would be logically able to use Chaos Control in the prism that Neo Chaos is using to power themselves. Buuut in order to do that, Shadow would have to get close enough.

There is the possiblity that allowing Sonic to shatter himself would fix everything too. But ultimately I have no clue cuz I just haven't thought far yet.

Overall, the AU is very shallow at the moment. And seeing as I have other far more complex AUs I'm working on, it might be this way for a while. So, I'm sorry about that! But I did enjoy rambling a bit, albeit a bit aimlessly.

I just really love this design and I really love how pretty they came out! Neo Chaos Sonic is a treat of a concept to me, since I adore Neo Metal Sonic. Favorite flavor of Mets to be honest. And I figured a Neo form for Chaos Sonic would do them good!
