binge-read de rerum natura in an evening and it was a deliiiight. i loved the repetition of lines / themes from the initial donella torturing vellioth -> vellioth torturing cazador. also loved the sinking feeling, going in, knowing nothing about it, when i finally recognised emin as cazador (for a whole ten/twenty pages was convinced he was just this really dishevelled looking wretch who had nothing to do with him). what made you decide to name cazador differently in this?

also, one more question: have seen lots of different vellioth designs, and i was interested in what inspirations you took from when designing your version of vellioth? were there any particular faces, visual cues, etc.?

YESSSS i was gonna originally just call him cazador but then i found out in dnd that elves actually have baby names! they’re born they get a baby name & then they keep that baby name until they’re about 100 years old & then they choose their own adult name. i love the opportunity there to present that sort of misdirection and “WAIT A SECOND” you experienced, im thrilled it worked hehe

i love all the different interpretations of the vellioth character floating around, everybody got like the base stock & then added their own seasonings & proteins in to make dozens of different wonderful soups. creative freedom rules. ANYHOO i based my physical interpretation of vellioth heavily on the french Bluebeard fable; i wanted this enormous imposing masculine figure to contrast with the frailty of his spawn (and make it all the more satisfying when he got taken down) i actually put him in a bunch of 17th century french nobility garb throughout, the party outfit is meant to be ripped straight from a 1634AD portrait of gaston duke of orléans by sir anthony van dyck

OKAY . HI. I LOVE TORTURING THAT BLONDE MAN. im going to direct you to the mark winters essay just in case you havent read that one yet because its got context for a lot of what im gonna talk about hehe (beware for worm spoilers, ill make this answer easy 2 understand without context i promise) under the cut bc i tend to ramble about him. oops

god . okay. basis of the entire nhw mark winters character is that he is the most unlucky man in the entire world. like. literally. hes been targeted that way. universe's favorite punching bag. i could make a joke here about being god and such but ill save that for my dnd campaign.

literally. so much bad shit happens to him. and then keeps happening to him. and keeps happening. and he has to be so fucking. emotionally repressed and logical and analytic and focused or else he will go crazy. mark is one of those capes that got powers artificially (overlord forced them on him- parallel to forced experimentation in canon) but the dramatic irony of it all is that even if mark would have gotten his powers naturally through a trigger event... with the way worm powers work he probably wouldve ended up with the same powers anyway. man is a striker/tinker, which comes from "facing an immediate, in-your-face threat, usually a singular object or individual" (indirect danger from simurgh, immediate danger from ashe in his very unstable breaker form immediately after killing his mom) and "solutionless problems over long periods of time, culminating in a crisis moment" (faking his and ashe's deaths in order to escape the quarantine process of simurgh survivors, having to be on the run from any sort of scrutiny for nearly TEN YEARS, eventually resulting in being offered a job working for overlord (a notoriously cruel crime lord)) . i have a lot of feelings about that. mark goes through all of this and never has a trigger event, he gets through it all with his humanity mostly intact. and then he ends up getting powers anyway because hes forced into a corner by a fucking alligator man.

ANYWAYYYYY. the fic im writing rn is from tide's pov and its immediatly after overlords death, where tide finds mark (and a bunch of other people) unconscious in tubes after going through biological experimentation and getting. animal features. this is how mark gets the lizard stuff in this au. anyway since the fic is from tide's pov i want to take a second to talk about what it would be like from marks pov. mark disobeyed one of overlords orders because it would have meant fighting the wards (who ashe . recently joined as part of the team) . overlord does not take this well and punishes him by using him for unethical human experiments. so between that moment and overlords death, mark had been subjected to over a week of near-constant testing and surgery and he was probably awake for a lot of it and. thatll fuck a guy up!!!!! pretty fucking severely!!!!! but in the grand scheme of things a week isnt that much time. which is why his transformation is only minimal and he can still pretty much pass as human with some disguising (some of the other subjects were. not so lucky).

mark was unconscious for the entire overlord fight, so he has no idea what happens. because he was unmasked, the heroes dont recognize him as a villain so instead of going to jail he gets taken to a hospital with all of the other subjects and is basically just treated as a civilian victim. but because nobody knows who he is or his relation to ashe/auxiliary.... nobody. tells him about what happened to overlord. the wards arent as closely involved with mark in this au (and honestly they dont really like him enough to care, they really just know him as "ashe's shitty dad" and thats about it). um. well. the only person who knows his identity and knows his relation is. tide.

working for a supervillain and constantly surviving out of the public's eye for fear that someone might discover your past doesnt leave a lot of room for friends, and his only living family is currently being turned into a puppet by another supervillain (not that he knows this yet) so the only person who really visits him is tide. theyre not friends, theyre not anything to each other, really, but . they KNOW each other. they UNDERSTAND each other in a way that. nobody else in the world would. go read roswells nhw tidalwave post its everything to me . anyway im getting distracted. like i said, over a week of constant unethical experiments and body horror will fuck a guy up. three of his base biological senses/instincts have been SEVERELY messed with (eyesight is fundamentally changed by the heat sense, he cant really thermoregulate well anymore, his balance is completely thrown off by the Addition Of A New Limb) and so that makes it. really hard for him to recover into some sense of lucidity. the next handful of days after he ends up in the hospital are a complete blur of consciousness, any time he opens his eyes hes totally disoriented, hes getting these awful migraines from the strain, he cant control his body heat and it seems like hes always too cold, the scales are fucking itchy, etc etc etc. hes bedridden most of the time because he cant even stand up on his own without support bc he has to get used to the weight of a tail. for those days where he's basically stuck in bed, stuck in his room, etc. he is. bored out of his mind, hes angry, hes scared (ohhh god hes in a hospital did someone do a background check do they know who he is. he hasnt been to a real doctor in over ten years), he doesnt know how much time has passed.

tide happens to visit the first day mark is feeling lucid enough to ask about ashe. this is like. a week or so into his recovery. he overheard one of the staff talking about the date and it made him like. snap awake because he realized hes been away from home and had no way to contact ashe in like. half a month. he cant ask any of the hospital staff about what happened to his son because thats a surefire way of getting a billion questions about his identity. so when tide shows up its immediately like "where is he is someone taking care of him i hate you heroes and everything you stand for but i know hes part of that team now please tell me theyre keeping him safe" and. tide is really really good at keeping a straight face but he just has this Look in his eyes and mark Knows in that moment that every single one of his nighmares is coming true. he tries to leave, tide has to catch him because he still cant walk and hes behaving like a fucking wild animal, hes biting and clawing and just in this rage because why didnt anyone tell me sooner i couldve done something i couldve protected him ("mark, you were basically in a coma" "i dont care") . nobody knows what actually happened to ashe yet. he killed overlord and then just. went missing. nobody saw him leave. they have no lead whatsoever on where he could be (yet) and it drives mark CRAZY dude like. all mark winters knows is grief and rage. eventually the wards are given that hint about where to find him and see him with the trickster and now THEY know, but. again, they dont.. know mark as well. they dont have any reason to go tell him right away. i havent decided yet whether it would be more painful for tide to break this news to him too or if the first time mark sees his son again is . on tv unmasked using his powers in some gaudy outfit he knows ashe would never choose to wear with his hair pulled back out of his face in some intricate braid and. why are his eyes orange . what the fuck happened to him. his wholeeeeee. entire world entire existence just comes crashing down around him .

Bleeding Fairy Helmet/Mycena Haematopus!!

Look at these its a muted red too that complements the colors i see on your blog , and like just cool- but these guys!!!

Not only if you cut it they bleed like a red latex fluid similar to blood [Like blood tooth mushrooms!!] Got its name from the red latex it oozes when damaged!![it bleeds a more purplish red on younger blood fairy helmets!]

They.Glow.In.The.DARK!!! Glow in the dark mushrooms are just so cool. Even though its really hard to see from like the human eye sort of deal cause the light is weak but its still there!!

Even though the Lacks in the brightness from its glow, it makes up for in the beautiful burgundy of its delicate caps!! They can be found throughout Europe & North America.

Another fun name for these guys are burgundydrop bonnets!!! Which like the cutest thing ever???

These guys are also safe to eat but really no benefits and is tasteless from what i know[i need to double check this fact]

They appear in small groups or clusters on things such as decaying logs, trunks, and stumps for example!!

Icyfox17--dude i dont fully remember bc its been so long but my dad was helping me make one and i think it came down to the fact that foxes are my favourite animal, 17 is my fav number, and icy bc foxes are cool ??? my only character thats actually from dnd (my online group plays other ttrpgs) and "active" (we played two sessions 3 months ago ;w; but! might play again) Is Yeshe :3

Its a mdzs inspired campaign... im pretty sure, i havent watched it... so i based her off of tibetan folk clothes and ofc off of a pallas cat. She hadnt had time to shine as a character yet and her backstory and motivations are bit murky =w= but the gist is that she takes care of her magically gifted little sibling (another player character, my sketch attached), they were raised in a remote commune and are now going to the big city.

Now, the character from a finished campaign of City Of Mist (really cool system!!!) thats been on my mind a lot recently is my beloved Theooooooo

He was originally an oc completely detached from any specific setting, then I put him with my beloved Rochelle (in the blue dress, she started out as a dnd character but got only like 2 sessions back in 2020 :'3) in my own version of feywild (ill get to it later).

And then!!! I decided to play him in that CoM game and it was the best decision everrrrrrrrrr he was so so so so sos ososoosososos fun :3. CoM is urban fantasy where people become "rifts" for mythical beings and are able to use their power.

Theo was a Detective and a Fey and i really enjoyed playing an absolutely devious, controlling and charming guy =w=. His main motivation was power, he thought most people (except for his wife rochelle altough they have a tomshiv thing going on) are beneath him and mostly there for him to order around like chess pieces. And something that made this campaign insanely fun for me was that in order to get more powerful he had to do a task for the fey queen - kidnap and deliver a singer to her. A singer which also happened to be the person we had to protect during our investigation... dm and me kept it secret.

It was so insanely fun to walk into every scene thinking of how to find an opportunity to do that... in the end I managed to, in a very tense scene (the greyscale sketch at the top, the girl smiling behind theo is one of the fey messangers). The other PCs didnt stop him because they had some trust in him... got away with it completely :3. Tho I agreed not to play him in the next campaign (even tho id love to >_<) bc his jig was kinda up. Great character tho, and thanks to my dm i finally get warlocks, i might play one sometime!

Now, still in the city of mist im playing Valerie :3

Her mythos is "Vampire" but she refuses to drink blood... she gets all sorts of issues bc of that, has trouble keeping down frineds and jobs ect... Still very early in the campaign but shes pretty fun :3 tho i prefer chracters who are a bit more commanding, i made her more of a follower to let my group breathe after theo but i kinda naturally fell back into organising the party again last session so i think i just need to stick to making charismatic characters next time sidugfsd. shes a nice change of pace tho, im excited for whats in store for her.

My feywild!!! It's a setting ive had in my head ever since i made Rochelle, Its sort of an early modern france mixed with Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell which sounds pretty lame and ig it is isudgfsd.

Theres a lot of ideas and a lot of characters that i dont really have time to develop and am prolly gonna rework a million times =w= but its fun, and its fun to make plalists for random archfey.

Last character I'll mention =w= even tho i never got to play him because the campaign fell apart before the fist session, as they often do, I really love Byk and I wanna show you guys...

Tadeusz Byk born in 1880 in Poland, Emigrated to the usa (boston then moved near new york) with his mother and grandma when he was 13... Operates a temporary house for immigrants that his mother started. Now 40, works as a tailor and sells moonshine on the side. Depressed, repressed and with a big heart... hope i get to dust him off for something someday...

ocs - dnd / i play in 2 campaigns, i dm one of my own. blorbo from my dnd is usually referring to maahes, he is an acquired taste so your mileage may vary in how far u can go before u simply want to block his tag. the good news is i wholly support curated dashboard experiences. the bad news is all of my ocs are equally hot messes of morality.

Basically when I first started this story I was like,,, a freshman??? Sophomore???? In Highschool. (I’m in college now!)

Back then I didn’t have anyone to play dnd with so I’d basically take the idea of it and like…. Go from there and daydream about it! I REALLY loved fantasy stuff, like a WHOLE lot, and this story has changed a LOT since I first started writing it, but at the base of it was really just me fantasizing about playing dnd (albeit with a lot of homebrew elements hehe) you can see that each of the characters has a really in-depth backstory I made to play off, and I basically thought of them like I was thinking up characters for dnd! (I left out a few bits for some of the characters for brevity ;) )

Idk that it’s very similar to dnd anymore but that’s what HEAVILY inspired me to make this story :)

The magic system is a bit complicated!

The basics of it is that it’s a form of energy that is found everywhere, much like air. People intake it as they live in order to move and grow, and a certain amount of it is required to be functional, but usually a person has a little extra that they don’t need they are able to expel. Anyone can use their buildup of magic, but specialists work to increase their ability to hold more. If you dip too far down into your supply, you risk getting sick, hurt, or worse. In Sam’s case, his specialty is summoning magic. He can summon objects and food and the likes by giving his excess magic physical form. Many magic users, Sam included, like to use wands made of biotic material, as it is easier to channel magic into physical form by doing so. Wands made of abiotic materials such as metal or rock cannot channel magic, and as such are not used as magic focuses.

In the case of necromancy, magic is used much like jumping a car, but instead, you use a little piece of yourself to get the person up and running again ;)

Magic is also often used in technology in this world much like how electricity is in ours, as it also works similarly to that as well!

Erwin plays a lot of DnD, he's super into fantasy stuff like Lord of the Rings and all that so I think I'll lean more toward that direction and say an elf paladin represents him best. He's all about justice and righteousness, and he'd never call himself aloof or graceful, perhaps even regal almost, but I think he's got that air about him, which is perfect for an elf.

14. Do they have an accent? How do they or others think of it?

I was soooooooo hoping someone would ask this lmao! He absolutely does! He's not from Strangerville, he's from Brindleton Bay. In my lore, if Strangerville is like the American southwest (think Arizona/New Mexico/Nevada), Brindleton Bay would be like the northeast (think Maine). Everyone he meets points out his accent because it stands out so much, and he'll insist over an over that he really doesn't think he has one lmao. (I have yet to find the perfect voice claim for him but when I find one, I'll be sharing it with all of you so you can know what I'm talking about lmao!)

16. What trait do they find most attractive/appealing about others?

Erwin loves confident people. A person who is passionate and headstrong but still kind at their core, basically. Physically he will always notice someone's smile first - if he develops a little crush, you can expect a few unintended lip glances from him lol.

17. What sort of role do they take on in relationships, either familial, romantic or platonic. i.e. are they a defender, protector, nurturer, etc.

Erwin is a protector through and through. He will sometimes act first or be a bit reckless to protect the people he cares about. He will throw himself into danger without a second thought, he will sacrifice his feelings if that means making people he loves happy. This is going to sound kind of sad, but his protective nature is usually what keeps him out of romantic relationships: he believes the best way to protect someone he might love is to not pursue them because they could "do better" than him.

24. Is mental, physical, or emotional wellbeing more important to them?

When Erwin actually prioritizes self-care, which very rarely occurs, he tends to believe mental wellbeing is the most important thing. He would argue that protecting the logical/rational side of himself is what would protect him from feeling or facing physical harm or from spiraling into an uncontrolled emotional mess. I, however, personally think he could benefit from prioritizing his emotional wellbeing.

..... and 20. What was the moment at which they knew they were in love, or was it a slow buildup?

I will vaguely answer this by just saying that Erwin is not the kind of person who believes in all-in, overwhelming, adds 50 lbs to your heart, takes your breath away love. He's kind of a cynic like that. I would say that IF we see him fall in love in the story, it will be a slow build up (mostly just because he would be the kind of person to be hit like a ton of bricks all at once and deny his true feelings until he couldn't any more). I also think there's an element of believing he's not worthy or good enough to be loved that he would need to overcome which would add to the slow build up. But yeah, that's all you're getting for now! 😉

so full disclosure i only kind of consider him an oc bc for some reason in my mind tabletop/dnd characters count Less for some reason. but i made him for a curse of strahd game i did with some of my very good friends and it so far has been one of the most satisfying and fun campaigns ive ever been in

(also warning for some mentions of body horror/gore and violence it was in fact a horror game. shocking that i really enjoyed the horror game ik! also some spoilers for curse of strahd HEHE)

to start with here are some visuals, i drew all of these but the heroforged pic

so to start with curse of strahd is a very dracula flavored campaign; the land of barovia is cut off from the rest of the world by a thick suffocating mist by a powerful vampire lord, strahd von zeravich. he has also cursed barovia with eternal night so that he can thrive without having to worry about the sun. he is also a huge bitch. here is a funko pop i bought of him at a convention because i am not immune to capitalism

julian (or his serial code JL-9) is a warforged created by a mad scientist named molostroi. molostroi was worryingly adept in making flesh homonculis. so he murdered a looooot of people to make his creations. that includes julian, who contains the organs and brain of a person that molostroi murdered For Science. he was also created specifically to murder people, with a built in weapon and everything (that shield you see him wearing in the pics earlier is mostly there because he was hiding the armblade embedded in him. he did NOT take it or his armor off willingly ever.) the goal was eventually to replicate julian in many many many more murder machine robots so that molostroi could execute a siege on strahd's castle

however, unfortunately for everyone, due to the fact that julian has a once human brain, he is sentient! and has been picking up some very clear lessons on morality by reading children's books about a divine hero and how to Act Heroically like him. (this sets up in his mind a pretty clear dichotomy between Heroes and Monsters. heroes protect innocent people while monsters attack them without any real care.) so when eventually he gains enough of a conscience to realize he is fully murdering people and that is very very bad, he lets someone that he was assigned to attack leave unscathed. this does NOT go over well with molostroi and he's almost immediately set to be dismantled and reworked over this.

except, uh-ohhhh, julian was made to kill people, so he turns right back around and murders him instead in a fit of panic. whiiiiich immediately makes him break down because he knows that murdering people is very wrong, and he just did it again, and he must really be a monster if he's still capable of doing such a horrible thing while knowing it's wrong. all of this makes him cry out for forgiveness and help (something he picked up from one of his stories about the Divine Hero) and shockingly someone answers.

the morninglord/god/the sun (whose forced absence is what created the endless night across barovia) answers his prayers and knights him as a paladin, because he can sense his passion for good and doing right by others. it's not very clear in those drawings aside from the second-to-last i suppose but his armor is branded with this symbol as proof of his devotion:

after this happens and he leaves the lab he develops some reactions to his trauma, if something happens that reminds him of the things he's done he'll just. go insane for a minute. his head starts spinning around and he sounds like an exceedingly loud tea kettle. (the first time this happened (other player dumped blood on him because they are weird and insane) i asked the dm to play this song on the music bot because i am a giant predictable geek)

also, in case there was any doubts about how horrible molostroi is here's some journals we found when we eventually had to go back and find something in his laboratory (lovingly and expertly written by the dm. ily hal i can't wait to play with u again when you're ready)

so on the academy: molostroi had a colleague named blinksy, who we meet at his toy shop some time after leaving strahd's castle for the first time (it went very poorly we lost three party members. two of them were only gone temporarily but oh baby. rip *sneeze* we miss you you funky little kenku.) while we were there we found a weird little clown robot dude who liked to follow us around, named pidlwick (shown above. he's very different in the source material but plllbbbbtttttt we have our own version and we like him.) we had to very quickly find some manner of engineer because while we were there he got injured and there was. blood! coming out of him. we got blinsky to take a look at him and he veeeerrry quickly recognized molostroi's work. then he took a closer look at julian and was able to recognize that him and pidlwick were made in the same horrible way.

all this to say blinsky became kind of a father figure to julian and pidlwick. after all was said and done and we defeated strahd, allowing the sun to come back, the scene we leave julian on is him fishing with blinsky on the lake.

that's kind of a rough and dirty description of him especially near the end there lol but god its very hard to summarize dnd characters when there's soooo much to cover in entire campaigns. but either way my boy i love my traumatized robot boy so so much

Homestuck dnd au: yea. The characters all play dnd together at the same hobby store. This is primarily focused on the humans campaign with dirk as their dm.

Ar dad au: i saw this one picture of ar holding baby dirk and my brain was rewired to care about dirk through that image. This au is about ar being a father to dirk and raising him.

Davekat soulmate au: im not much of a fan soulmate aus. This is a reflection of my qualms about it. First of all soulmatea are not romantic in this it just indicates someone special in their life so dont be alarmed if i go "june and jade are soulmates". Its a silly "theres a mark on your body where if you touch your soulmate its now rainbow" type of soulmate au where dave was born without a soul mark and karkats soul mark is his blood (with his soulmate being his adopted dad, spades slick). The story is about "finding" karkats soulmate (since the pair think its one of karkats 11 childhood friends and karkats like "oh my dad who i love so so much? Nahhh hes not my soulmate my soulmate has to be a romantic one"). Its not too fleshed out rn but it is a idea so yeah

Reverse stabdad: okay yall know stabdad right? Its the kida and adults switching ages so now the carapacians are the kids. Ive had this au in my head for a while and im probably never gonna write a fic for it but I love it so so much

Jake leader of the felt: so hs2 is happening because of lord english and ult dirks breakup. Ult dirk gets the felt in the divorce and just randomly places them on earth. Jake stumbles upon them, becomes their leader, then decides to use their time travel powers to go through time to try and make earth c better.

Fairytalestuck: i connected pages to peter pan and hic/nanna/jane (not a ship) to a queendom and it spiraled into a au. The cherub twins are fairy royalty with jake as their jester, jane is fighting with her sisters (meenah and feferi) to be heir to hic's throne, and anything else that falls under the umbrella of "the weird harleybert family tree" and the cherubs being decidedly Not Mortal

anyway! celine is a silly little necromancer and also my dnd character right now and the separation between what's dnd and what's oc stuff in my brain is Very Wibbly And Unclear so ill just assume that her backstory ive been using in dnd is her canon one

so background is that shes a magic school dropout who decided that doing puppet shows of all things is her true calling in life. celine is a beast of hindsight and this did not work out so naturally the catgirl turns to a life of crime (but still does puppet shows for local thieves guilds on the weekends). this background makes me really happy its very silly.

anyway she does some magic crimes because she is Basically completely self taught (in the campaign shes an arcane trickster by the way since necromancer isnt really its own class. its fine) and i Do joke that she got into magic for the sparkles but she does have another motive. a motive that is not very well thought out but im Sure will go fine for her

oh also she had a little brother at one point. im sure she has other fambly too but she hasnt talked to them in a while after yknow, dropping out of school and probably disappointing them. oopsie headbonk hehe. she and said brother were always close though theyre partners in crime and she Would do anything for him especially because he's the designated braincell holder. im sure nothing bad happened to said brother (died in a workplace accident at the ripe age of like fourteen <3)(so yeah that motive i mentioned before uhhhhhh yeah catgirl's gonna bring back the dead And shes gonna make it purrsonal im sure nothing will go wrong here)
