What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?

writing present tense actually! my dear beta has been suggesting it for years bc i mostly wrote past tense (or both i would switch in the middle of a work constantly, sorry @vaguelyreferential) so i dont even know what made me do it one piece fic just had the vibes for it i guess

What’s something you learned about yourself as a writer?

i write best at night and unfortunately like it best to write on my laptop. unfortunately bc i got an ergonomic keyboard for reasons and with the laptop thats not really compatible (i can of course conntect it but i like the vibe of the laptop yknow) i think it might have something to do with my double monitor setup on my main computer which tends to distract me so. fun things about being creative with adhd

What fic meant the most to you to write?

woof. thats a tough one. i mean to a certain degree they all mean something to me yknow. or i wouldnt write them. but i think meaningful to me personally is probably Salt of Midgar its the first long ongoing fic ive done in a while and i really tried to be consistent with uploads and stuff and try to hone the whole "done is better than perfect" with it. i sadly lost the consisitency with putting out chapters with it but i am still very dedicated to finishing it and plan to do it next year.

also have to say one of my unfinished 00Q fics has a soft spot in my heart bc i met my beta through it and got back into writing in the first place bc of the james bond fandom. i have planned to "reboot it" of sorts aka rewrite and actually finish it (bc its so old at this point my style wouldnt really work with it anymore and i also have no idea where i was going). it got shelved bc i got swallowed up my one piece fandom but yknow

“You don’t have to have all the answers for him right now, you know that right?” Kazuha told him gently and he glanced up, feeling small and terrified at the gulf that was opening in his chest. She smiled and nudged their joined hands. “Just talk to him and tell him the truth. Left to your own devices you two just reach the worst conclusions possible.” She added teasingly and Heiji felt himself snort. She had them there. “Communication.” She stressed in a tone of voice Heiji was too familiar with from their time as a couple.  With a final squeeze, he extracted his hands and groaned, letting his head hang over the back of the chair. “Why do I have to be the mature one? Why can’t he come talk to me?” He whined.  “Because Shinichi is emotionally stunted and you are better at interpersonal relationships than him.” She said placatingly and Heiji gaped at her. He narrowed his eyes at her. Kazuha grinned as innocently as possible. Oh, she was goading him.

this whole conversation from the third chapter of One Trick Pony probably. i struggled with that whole chapter in general a whole lot. this conversation originally took place on the train before i scrapped that location change so to speak and had them stay in kazuha's place. what was difficult at the time with that chapter is how miserable the characters were and i got really into that headspace which kinda made writing hard. but im glad with how it turned out in the end!

What's something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story?

i think i have a lot of my "oho" moments when im not actively writing. such as kaito working for the friend of heijis mom. that was like a "yknow what would be funny" and then i implemented that and from that alone came The Simple Life of Kaito. otherwise my writing process is often just getting possessed by ideas and getting them out of my head the way they want it

What’s something that you want to write in 2024?

as said above i want to finish up Salt of Midgar which i think are 2-3 chapters by my last count.

i also had another one piece thing thats basically done that i need to polish up which is in universe and two other things that i might finish up ive been trucking away at those for a while. one is a sequel to laws eleven and the other is a new AU. also of course lucky charm. that reminds me i have to finish up the next chapter for that whoops

I also just recently read a VERY lengthy character analysis on him and oh mygskkd. It really helped me get to understand Dottore as a character and how it disapproves of many misconceptions of himself. I genuinely think ayato would be very in favor of keeping your relationship a secret, at least for a little while. He knows being in the public eye can be… overwhelming for many, himself included, and he wouldn’t dare push that onto you. He just wants… everything in its place for lack of a better term, before you announce you’re dating.

Though despite the fact he literally suggested you keep your relationship a secret… he’ll openly flirt, and tease with you in public. All the time. I’m front of people. Important people. And then also thoma and ayaka, but they don’t care (ayaka will 100% tease her brother though!)

Definitely has thought to himself “don’t hold their hand, the leader of the kujou clan is right there. Don’t do it.” Because I do believe ayato has his… clingy moments. Listen he just wants to love, and he often times shows that live through small gestures like holding your hand. If he does hold your hand out of habit though, he’ll play it off as nothing, a… friendly gesture if you will.

So much affection in private, oh my god. Imagine this, you come home late at night after a long day of meetings and surprisingly ayato is finished with his work, waiting for you in your shared room reading a book. He honestly has a very easy time with this. He’s not a huge fan of pda, opting for mostly a kiss on the cheek, the back of your hand, or just holding your hand (if you were open about your relationship that is), so he’s just kinda… hanging out.

I like to headcanon that a lot of people like kazuha. He’s an attractive guy, and is easy to get along with, so many people either casually strike up conversation with him, which could lead to flirting depending on the person. He has almost said “oh this is my s/o” every time.

Writes you into a lot of his poems, and when he publishes them everyone’s like “yo??? Who’s this beautiful person the author is talking about???” Obviously it’s you. It’s a silent way for kazuha to say publicly that he loves you without anyone knowing.

He was known as Kaedehara Kazuha first before he was recognized as The Wandering Samurai when he fled away from his homeland, Inazuma. By the time he was born, the renowned noble samurai clan, Kaedehara Clan, was on the verge of collapsing.

When he grew up, he met a lot of people from his wandering in Inazuma, and eventually became friends with the reckless Tomo. The two have been companions for a while before Tomo faced his end after losing to a duel with Kujou Sara and unfortunately the Raiden Shogun herself finishing him off with the musou no hitotachi.

He was too late when he arrived there, Tomo was already slained by the Shogun. He grabbed his friend's vision and run away from that place. And that's how he became a wanted man. He hid but the shogunate managed to find him and they fought to arrest him.

From there, he runs towards the sea, swimming to getaway. When he was already too tired, he lost hope, ready to face his death. But Beidou found him in the sea and helped him to get back to life. Kazuha has been welcomed by the crew, he became a temporary member after Beidou took him in. She introduced him to the members of the crew, including you, her friend.

She asked you to welcome him to Liyue, touring him and letting him experience the cultures and food, to which you agreed. Beidou never told you who and what he is when you asked her, she simply answered, “It's for you to find out and for him to tell.”

What she said made you curious about the man. You first tried talking to him to get to know him better. He answered you nice and short, but that's it. He didn't add anything, simply giving answers to your questions and replying to your thoughts.

‘Who is he and why is he mysterious?’ You wondered wide awake that night. You came up with a plan to get close to him, to know what is the reason Beidou couldn't tell you why she took, and after that, you'll leave him alone.

It started with you bringing him Liyue foods, conversing with him, asking him about his haikus, accompanying him to his wandering— hell you even accompanied him to Mondstadt where he met a certain drunkard bard who have an anemo vision too. All of this, you did just to fill up your curiosity.

That night, the bard who introduced himself as Venti invited him for a drink in a known tavern in Mondstadt, Angels Share. To say that night is peaceful is a lie, a big lie to be exact.

Kazuha likes wine and Venti also likes them, you might think nothing will go wrong but you are mistaken there. The two gentlemen drank dandelion wine until they were left stuttering on their words. Showcasing their poems and seeing who's the best while having their cheeks flushed red from being drunk, the two really got along well. You can only sigh at the two of them and continued drinking your drink. You also noticed the bartender shaking his head at the both of them while wiping the glasses and serving the patrons drinks. The two won't stop drinking if the bartender didn't tell them that the tavern is closing.

“Drinking like as if it's your last, tsk.” You mumbled while holding Kazuha to help him stand up. You wrapped Kazuha's one arm on your shoulder as you held his waist to help him.

Kazuha whipped his head towards you, “Are you aware that I heared your little mumbling?”

His movement and words startled you that made you look at him. As you did that, your nose touched each other. Your eyes widened at the sudden proximity as your heart picks up its rhythm.

“I have a high sense of hearing. I hear the voices of nature, including you and your beating heart that seems to pump rapidly in a rush.” He said in a hushed tone that send shivers on your body.

You gulped while your eyes flicker. He only smiled at you and blink slowly like a lovestruck man. His gaze send your stomach tickling.

“W-what are you looking at? Do i have anything on my face?” You looked away from him and coughed.

“What is your real intention, Y/n?”

“Huh?”

“Do you think that I wouldn't notice how you try so hard to get close to me? You must have your reasons, yes?” He removed his arm around you and stood up on his own. The drunk Kazuha seemingly departed already. It left you astounded how keen he is.

You sighed and finally answered him. “Fine, I was trying to figure out who are you and what did you do. I mean Beidou is kind, but she wouldn't let someone join the crux that fast without a reason,”

Kazuha laughed, “I like frank people. You're frank, i like you,”

“Hey, you two!” You don't have the time to react on his words when someone called you both. You and Kazuha looked back towards Venti the bard who held a bottle in his hands.

“Love is in the air, said the anemo archon!” He giggled and gave you two a salute before singing away in the streets of Mondstadt.

“He's really drunk.” You said and followed Kazuha as he starts walking back to the place you'll stay for the night.

“I'm a wanted man.” You watched Kazuha with wide eyes as he sat on the couch. The thing that you've been trying to find the answers to is now in front of you.

“What do you mean?”

“I'm sure you're aware of the vision hunt decree that is happening right now in Inazuma, yes? I stole my friend's vision, now I am on a run because of it.” Kazuha simply elaborated while he lay down on the couch.

“Where's your friend right now?” You sat on the mattress as you waited for his response. You can see how he hesitated to give you an answer based on how he kept opening his mouth but no words came out.

“It's alright, you don't have to answer if it is too personal,”

“No, I will give you answers,”

“My friend has already passed away. The Electro Archon finished him off.”

You shut your mouth after that. Silence filled the small room. You don't know what to say. You can only mutter a small ‘im sorry’.

“Not your fault. You can have the bed, I'll sleep on the couch.” Only nodding at his words, you lay on the mattress. Your body facing Kazuha's figure.

“Good night, Kazuha,” You whispered softly.

“May the nightmares stay away from you, Y/n.” He glanced back at you before closing his eyes, going into sleep.

Both of you never talked about what happened that evening again when you came back to Liyue.

Now that you finally have your answers, you thought you should stop bothering him. But you simply couldn't. It was now that you realized that in your everydays, there is Kazuha. You couldn't think of what will you do if you stopped now even if your curiosity killed the cat already. Kazuha is already familiar with Liyue, so why can't you let him be on his own?

Nevertheless, you are still stuck around him, and Kazuha doesn't mind it. In fact, he said he enjoyed your company— your warmth.

That was the start of your good days. The everydays not lasting without seeing each other. The days where suddenly, everything behind his haiku is about you. The days where he will create haiku in a rock that is filled with beams of mid-afternoon daylight. However, your image in his mind prisons his attention, resulting to him creating a haiku for you instead.

Kazuha does not tolerate distraction, for it may lead him into something dangerous. But, if you were the distraction and danger, perhaps, he might learn to embrace it.

He has been distracted countless junctures already. Never once did he let you stop for its sending him to serenity; a place— or a person rather— where he wants to rest, keep his eyes closed for a moment and open them to see you first things first on his sight, beaming at his beauty.

You asked Kazuha “Do you have a type?” He asked you what is a type. You told him it's a person you like, a person you want and need, a person who captivated you, a person who is your everything. If you were to ask the past Kazuha who doesn't even know you yet, he would simply say no or no one. But how come when you asked the present Kazuha now who held your hand delicately, the answers suddenly changed?

“In this world where I met and interacted with a lot of people from my wanderings. The only answer that I have is you. You are everything you've defined.”

Kazuha does like frank people because he thinks there is no need to hide everything you wish to say. Yet, he is not frank. He loves being passive to you for he can coat it with flowers and still makes you flustered around him.

You and Kazuha never had a label, you're just casually ... there beside each other, simply existing. You both don't mind it though. What matters is you are there and he is there. Even so, for what reason did Kazuha suddenly want to settle down with you? Is it when he saw a man asking his lover to be his spouse? Who knows? Maybe that clicked something in Kazuha's mind.

However, Kazuha and settling down doesn't go well. So he came to ask you if you would still accompany him.

“Would you want to be my companion in my wanders?”

“I want to, but i can't,” Kazuha's heart shrunk at you words.

“That's why I will wait for you. You can return to me and I will have my open arms for you to come back to.” You added and gazed at him with eyes full of love.

Kazuha took your hand and kissed it gently, you can feel his smile while he did that for a few seconds before returning his gaze to you.

“You never fail to make me realize that you are full of wonders, i wished to wander you a bit more,” He caressed your fingers and gave them a kiss once more.

“Fret not, I will return to you every time. Until then, will you be well?” Kazuha looked at you with hopeful eyes.

“Hell I am! ... just— just return to me, please?” You're eyes watered at the thought of him leaving you hanging. Your poor heart wrenched at the danger that will follow Kazuha as he returns to Inazuma.

“It's an oath, I will come back to you. I still need to marry you, after all.” Your tears dropped as he said those words. Your hands trembled against him.

“M-marry me? You will?”

“I do, will you?” He felt his heart thumps against his chest, quick and loud.

“A million times yes until I have no voice to say yes!” You grabbed his face from the excitement and smashed your lips against him. This caused Kazuha's eyes to open wide. You two never kissed at all. You've never been intimate with him.

Your eyes opened as it finally came to you what you did. You look at Kazuha who is already looking at you with his ruby eyes blown wide. You immediately parted and covered your mouth before turning around and covering your whole face as it heats up from embarrasment. You silent screamed at your hands while managing to curse yourself mentally as many as you can.

‘Are you insane!? Why would you do that!? You're so stupid!?’

Meanwhile, Kazuha was too stunned to speak. He opens his mouth to say something but closes them as his face turned scarlet red like his eyes.

No one talked for a minute until Kazuha placed a hand on your shoulder.

“Can you face me now?” You immediately shook your head and shy away from him. He chuckled because of this.

“It's fine, you're not the only one who's embarrassed.” This made you faced him while having your hands on each side of your cheeks to hide the heat.

“Though, I wouldn't mind another one.” He smiled slyly at you. If you thought your face cannot get hotter than already it is, you're wrong.

“But, Can I?” You won't deny how you liked his soft lips against yours. You can only nod while missing how his lips feels against yours.

Kazuha tucked your hair behind your ears before resting them on your nape and closing his eyes to lean in and give you a proper kiss. “Mhm, you should too.” You let go of him as he followed Beidou.

diluc ragnvindr has rarely been close enough to anyone to celebrate their birthday, nor does he feel the need to. he pretends he doesn't remember the birthday parties crepus and him threw for kaeya when they were young, and the parties he had for his birthdays too - isn't he too old for that now? he doesn't feel so inclined to sit awkwardly with a party hat on his head while he waits for everyone to finish singing happy birthday. but with you, things are different. he desperately wants to commemorate your special day, the day you were brought into this world, the day that's the sole reason he's able to date you now. unfortunately, he has zero clue how to.

originally, he considered asking the knights for their opinion, but when he thought of how kaeya would tease him, the proud smile jean would wear as she realised that he was asking for help from the knights of all people, the way eula would take this as just another reason to exact vengeance, how klee didn't even like him, and how albedo probably had no idea too, diluc changed his mind very quickly. hence, he sought assistance from none other than the workers in his house. hillie and moco were unhelpful, merely starstruck at the chance of speaking to their boss face to face, while connor suggested making you a special brew, which diluc rejected. thankfully, adelinde and elzer managed to save the day. adelinde whipped up a delicious birthday cake that was your favourite flavour, with elaborate edible decorations and a 'happy birthday!' illustrated on it with icing. elzer, with his eye for detail and skill at handling important affairs, plotted out your schedule and found the perfect time for diluc to surprise you - right after you wake up the next morning.

to say diluc is terrified would be an understatement. he's been in so many battles, defeated hundreds of fatui members, yet here he is; quaking in his boots at the thought of you disliking his surprise. but then he thinks to himself that he's got to thank you somehow for everything you've done for him. the way a smile from you brightens up his entire day, how your warm hugs never fail to cheer him up, your reassurance and light scolding whenever he overworks, the infinite wonderful memories the two of you have made together that he keeps hidden like precious treasures in his heart - he's so lucky to have you, and diluc is planning to show you just how grateful he is today.

from outside the door of your shared bedroom (no, he still can't get over the fact that you live with him! and sleep in the same bed!), diluc lights the candle on the cake in his arms. he can hear the sounds of you faintly stirring, and his cheeks redden slightly with excitement and anticipation as he thinks about how he's going to gift you with a kiss too, aside from the present waiting for you downstairs; it's something you've mentioned wanting for ages, and diluc recalled you saying that and purchased it. the candle flame flickers gently, and diluc smiles at no one in particular, imagining your joyous expression when you see it. it may not be his birthday, but as he looks up from the dancing flame and enters the bedroom, diluc makes a silent wish.

synopsis: comforted by kazuha because people suck ;-;

kazuha knew being a female gamer attracted unwanted attention and unnecessary comments from time to time. but what he didn’t expect was to find you running into his arms in tears because of something someone or rather your friends had said.

kazuha would be rather shocked, trying to piece together what mumblings you made together. he wasn’t bothered that you were drenching his shirt with your tears. he’d feel his heart ache every time your voice would crack, or whenever you clenched onto him as you cried harder. his arms would find their way around you and embrace you tightly while gently massaging your back. he’d press kisses on your forehead, trying his best to comfort you in anyway he could think of.

after your meltdown he’d offer you a glass of water and ushered you back into bed to cuddle you. this is when kazuha would actually figure out what you were so upset about.

“sometimes they make me feel… i dont know, they make me feel so small…” you huffed, trying not to let tears spill from your eyes once again.

“maybe i’m just too sensitive.” you whispered, leaning into his touch more.

once again, kazuha felt another pang in his chest. he watched you curl into a ball against his build, he was so upset that a group of people you considered friends managed to make you feel like this. he wanted nothing more than to see your beautiful smile, and cheerful laughter once again.

“my love, don’t say that. your feelings… they are more than valid.” kazuha would cup your face with his hands and brush off any stray tears. he’d pull you into another hug and whisper sweet musings into your ear.

“i love you so much, and i think you should find friends that love you too.” kazuha would tell you, even if it sounded harsh- scary even. he always wanted you to feel happy around people who loved you as friends. he never wanted you to feel hurt doing something you loved, he didn’t want you to lose your spark.

from then on kazuha would probably try to play more video games with you. both of you would find games you both enjoyed together. kazuha would also be rather protective of you whenever you were playing an online multiplayer games, always keeping strangers in check when they made uncomfortable comments. hes such a sweetheart.

honestly when i play video games with friends online, which are unfortunately (a bunch of guys) they just say things THAT HURT SO MUCH. im so tired of pushing my feelings aside and thinking that im so sensitive- and i cant even say anything to them, because lowkey they’d probably just say “its a joke dude” like i dont want my feelings to be ignored, but i dont want to tell them because i know they’d brush it off. sorry for ranting- this is just for me to vent i guess. i just want kazuha to embrace me and tell me everything is okay. since this won (tbh i'd still publish it sooner than the others if it didn't lol) i continued outlining it and... unfortunately, it didn't turn out to be as light-hearted as everyone might expect it to be so i decided to make two (2) kazuha smau.

before talking about the other smau, i'd like to discuss my plans for this one. (i will be talking about the other kazuha smau at the very end)

this will be a very short smau (i think) so i decided to make a Tagalog version of this one (currently suffering, i regret this decision but it is what it is). narratives/written chapters are going to be written in full English except for the dialogues. the dialogues and texts may be different from each other, but the context and meaning will still be the same as i will not try to translate them directly.

A/n: this took me so long,, like 2 weeks :’)

ngl i rlly don’t like albedo’s part, which makes me super sad cuz he’s my fav,..

Summary: You are part of a band with your boyfriend, Felix, a diva is what he is in short. Even you don’t know how you tolerated him for this long. The final straw for the relationship was during the show. But it’s ok, you are far better without him! And you earned the attentions of people more charming than him >:) <3

The band wasn’t that popular really, yes there were fans but only those in your town knew it. But you always appreciated the support regardless, your boyfriend, Felix was incredibly ambitious and had his head up his ass sometimes, never physically abusive but you didn’t feel loved by him sometimes, the other band members were chill but you arent close with them as you all saw each other as band collages rather than close friends.

Today was a special day as you were ready to perform your new song, unfortunately, Felix also wanted to perform his song as well

“Felix, can we just perform both of our songs?”

You reached to cup his face to which he scoffed and pulled away

“Whatever fine.”

As much as you were not happy in the relationship, there were sweet moments with Felix that you severely missed but now you rarely had those moments these days, if you were to break up with him, there were many possibilities as he could either straight up leave the band or he wouldn’t, and things would be extremely awkward and working together is gonna be harder.

With sigh, you wanted to focus on the show and drive the negative thoughts away

During the show, Felix sang his song that was full of hatred that it made some of the crowd confused and cringe with only a few handful cheering and fangirling over him, the crowd only seemed to only enjoy when you sung as the background singer but most of your vocals were drowned away by Felix’s harsh playing of his electric guitar

The final beat of the song concluded and you were ecstatic and nervous, it was your time to be the main singer

You set one foot closer on the stage ready to play

Only for Felix to interrupt you by continuing to play on his guitar harshly

Looking back at your band mates who were just as confused as you, you look back at Felix and strung a note on your instrument interrupting Felix back, causing him to stop and look at you with an annoyed expression

~“Oh what will the signal be

For your eyes to see me

Watching off side as I wait

Just in case you need me

So I still will set the stage

Send my thoughts to you”

While singing you reached out a hand for Felix to join only to see him walking back stage and causing a sad and disappointed expression on your face

But only briefly

You were sick and tired of Felix and his bitchy attitude

And so you continue to sing and raise the mic higher and had it close to your lips as the crowd gets more excited

The crowd goes wild and so does the electric guitar in your hands

Little did you know your song would make a huge impact on a couple of charming people

He came with Sucrose because she was a fan of the band and she invited Albedo to come as friends! Albedo was hesitant at first when he heard the band was on the rock genre, and well-

Let’s be honest Albedo doesn’t seem like a rock’n roll type person at all and probably listens to classical music or smth  

But Sucrose mentions about a certain member that she adores for not only their voice, but their skills in the guitar as well!

With nothing else better than to do, he agrees to come

And he regretted it at first-

But only during Felix’s song! Albedo hated how Felix’s song was so loud and obnoxious, he was about to leave until Sucrose tells him to wait, you were stepping on stage to sing!

Albedo sees your figure walk towards the stage seemingly about to sing, he was intrigued

Until your rude boyfriend interrupts you

He saw how dejected you were and felt pretty bad for you

But when you strung the note on your electric guitar, which was nice to listen to compared to your wayward boyfriend

Oh and when you sang your song, Albedo was in cloud9, your voice sends euphoric shivers down his spine

Let’s just say, you gained a new huge fan who drew buttload of fanarts of you and would die for you to sign them <33

AYATO

Lucky you! The Kamisato siblings both are now your fans! Thoma invited them to the show, Ayaka immediately accepting to come, Ayato did too but he wasn’t as excited as his sister and really only came to spend some quality family time with Ayaka

Ayaka was one of the few who clapped after Felix’s performance not because she liked it, but because she’s kind like that,..

When you walked forward the stage, you had a completely different aura from your whimsical boyfriend, Ayato was actually quite interested in what you were about to play

So you can imagine his disappointment when Felix barged in very rudely

But then was blown away when you started singing, Ayato couldn’t stop staring at you as his expectations were blown away  

And with his keen eyes, Ayato didn’t miss it when you offered a hand to your boyfriend, you were still offering a second chance to that douche! But still, Ayato admired your devotion, even though it was misplaced

Dare he say it, it was quite an attractive feature of yours along with your singing and cuteness ;))

KAZUHA

As an lover of the arts, Kazuha enjoys every genre of music!

He's theater kid and found you practicing in the auditorium, and once you told him you were part of band Kazuha was hooked

Kazuha actually helped you w your vocal performance and writing some songs. Music bonded the two of you, forming a friendship! And may or may not have developed a little crush on you

Of course he didn’t like Felix at all since he believed that he was the reason you never reached your full potential

AND WHEN I TELL YOU HE ALMOST WENT UP STAGE TO BONK FELIX W HIS OWN GUITAR WHEN HE INTERUPTED YOU, I FUKING MEAN IT

Kazu, who normally is calm and never makes impulsive decisions, almost threw hands for you dammit >:((((((

But thankfully you broke out of your shell and interrupted Felix back like the baddie you are, not mention how much of a banger your singing was!

In the middle row, you could see Kazuha proudly smiling at you, missing how lovestruck he looked due to him being at a distance

Maybe Kazuha should make a move now that you’re back on the single market~~

Originally came to the show w his gf

During the past days and months, the relationship wasn’t working out well (sound familiar? wink wink) and was hoping this date would help, lol nope

Later on the show, he had enough of her simping over Felix and gave up trying to fix the relationship to which he was going tell her, over text,.

Regardless, he stayed for the show because he noticed a certain cute h/c haired background singer even though they didn’t sing much (look whos a simp now ehe)

When they looked like they were about to sing, Xiao’s normally harsh expression softened

And cue to an asshole of a boyfriend taking the spotlight again

Xiao clenched his teeth and glared harshly at Felix

His expression morphed into shock, pleasantly surprised when you gave Felix a taste of his own medicine

Xiao watched as you reached for Felix only for him to walk backstage like a bigass baby, ‘you deserve way better than that jerk’  Xiao says quietly to himself

He seriously didn’t expect you to rebel back at Felix as you looked so quiet and shy, but his adoration grew tenfold

And it was as if a miracle had happened as both you and Xiao are now single after getting out of a toxic relationship <3

I don't think dropping a story and character at the same time is necessarily terrible. The real issue is that Genshin's characters are boring af. They dropped Itto in the middle of nowhere and he was still the best character out of the entire Inazuma cast, after all.

Unfortunately, it's hard to say what makes a character succeed or not bc there's so many variables. Some people only care about meta, some people roll for seiyuu, some people roll for design only, some people are collectors, and then you have people who roll for narrative as just a segment of that.

Not helping matters is that HYV is not explicit with banner earnings. I'm pretty sure Xiao banner to albedo banner is the only banner where Mihoyo officially came out and said they made over 10 billion usd each. You basically can't tell which characters succeed and which don't.

Im pretty sure Ayato is the most popular tho. Based purely and singularly off his japanese earnings. What the fuck. You think the chinese raiden shogun gap is freakish and then you see that.

I'd... hmm. I 98% agree, but I don't think that the problem is necessarily that the characters are boring, because quite a few of them have potential that goes completely untapped because the writers are just... unwilling to be too daring with their stories. It's actually pretty rare for characters to really get involved in each other's quests?

So what you end up with is: characters that are dropped very suddenly, almost all their lore is dropped in their backstory, they rarely interact with anyone that has an established relationship with them, and the story isn't good anyway. Remember Eula and Yan Fei being dropped at the same time AND being connected? Eula was shunted off-screen while we dealt with her uncle, and Yan Fei was the introduction of the Serenitea Pot. You'd have expected them to interact, but no!

Albedo is interesting, right, but his introductory event/quest were both boring as hell. Zhongli is.... theoretically interesting... but the writers can't use him very well. As much as I wuv him, Xiao dropped off real quick and was never used that well to begin with. Venti's also in dire straits despite a very strong start and personal quest. Kazuha, whose lore is as dry as sandpaper but had a strong placement in the story, is a disaster.

It's incompetency all the way down.

Ayato... was hyped a long time through drips of intel. He's more boring than he sounded, go figure, but that's because HYV decided to make his introductory quest about NPCs getting married and keep him mostly off-screen in the event he takes up most of the banner of instead of... I don't know... something interesting?

Curious to see his earnings so far if you have a link? I figured HYV were worried about his sales, since he was alongside the Venti rerun while Ayaka got the solo banner. Which was.... strange.... I wonder if its bc of his quest/the event’s timing.

I like how Yelan is stupid broken, but also looks very boring. Maybe this'll be a trend - interesting characters with janky kits, dull characters with broken ones. That's one way to do it, I guess.

for the hc swap: one part of the social proximity effect is that when you spend enough time with someone, youll start mirroring some of their habits. and with chili hanging out with each other as much as they do, i imagine the idiosyncrasies start to bleed over whether they realize it or not.

one very important thing to note: their laughs start sounding different. maybe zhongli now lets out an occasional hiccupy squeak amidst the laughter. childe’s laugh is a tad deeper than before. whatever your headcanons for them are, its not a change so drastic that its jarring or strange, but it comes with the realization that ‘this part of me has become a part of you too. we’re truly intertwined now.’

GOD THIS IS SO GOOD i don’t even know how to respond ughaksnakks but zhongli picking up childe’s mannerisms would be so cute bc i feel like childe would be like super spazzy and zhongli starts out compared when tickled but over time he starts becoming less restrained and gosh the thought of him just getting all hiccupy is so good and childe teases him about it too like “what was that noise you made xiansheng” and zhongli is just covering his mouth while he giggles so that it doesn’t happen again (but it does lol)

but zhongli also picks up on childe’s tickling techniques and ler behavior which is really unfortunate for childe bc he’s not used to zhongli tickling him out of impulse so he’s always caught off guard hehehe

The paper or books in front of kazuha could be another symbol of him being a son of a noble, or a heir to a noble family (which has unfortunately fallen, and so he fled inazuma and led to him being a free-spirited wanderer. but correct me if i'm wrong) since i think they are expected to do some paperworks. Or those books might be of poetry, where kazuha finds solace in weaving such, specifically haikus. Maybe one of the things that he will soon find utmost joy in composing are poems (the books), right infront of him as he was tied up. Additionally, Kazuha escaped from Inazuma- the nation on the hunt for him or specifically locking him up (tied hands) and his hands were "set free" after escaping and boarding the Alcor. Now, he's a wanderer that's truly one with the wind- where the breeze takes the ship's sails towards.
