about the siblingification of friendships, sorry im totally about to make myself a stand in for steve here, but im an only child, i have felt v lonely, and i have this one friend who calls her close girl friends sisters,, and i just do not feel it, i love her, and she is one of my best friends, but i just do Not see her as a sibling. and i think steve would be the same way tbh, also my most sibling adjacent feelings have been for ppl around 5 years younger than me (just like Steve & the kids/teens<3) but unlike steve, i haven't had any intense trauma to increase the chance for sibling bonding.

idk i just think that it would take More for steve to feel sibling feelings for ppl around his own age or older.

i also think that when u have been on ur own a lot it's like, sure u want ppl around, but also u need ur space bc u're used to it, idk maybe thats just me lol. i also have an intense need for personal space and like my things are my things and no one better fucking touch it, (i mean u can but if u pick stuff up I'll be annoyed, sorry) but also i Crave physical affection, and sorry i think this is just a "why i relate to steve/things i project onto steve" list, oops.

but like i guess what i probably wanted to say is, steve is, as far as we know, an only child, and while i think we all want him to have good family times, i don't think that equals sibling type relationships with everyone, and i think it would be interesting if ppl took into account how living as an only child would affect him, and not only in the "his house was always empty so now he is filling it w the sound of his friends 24/7" way. like maybe its just me, and im projecting or w/e but if I had friends over All the time, even my very best friends(except maybe my best best friend<3) i would go insane i think

sorry for talking so much about myself, it's just things that makes me think about steve, and this is the best i could manage to express it at the moment <3

this just made me think of something very funny which is that Steve and robin DO think each other as siblings but because they're both only children they just. genuinely have absolutely no idea how siblings are supposed to act around each other and so they do things together that would make ppl sing 'sweet home Alabama' or go 'wtf' if they were actual real life siblings. like it genuinely is all completely platonic but it's still a line that siblings wouldn't cross lol (idek what kind of things yall can figure it out)

HOWEVER two only children who are very used to doing their own thing suddenly being very clingy with each other?? oh I just know there were growing pains. like they want to be around each other but also being around someone means Being Around Someone. they definitely had to figure out a system to make sure they dont murder each other lol

but yeah I do see what you mean about Steve maybe either not needing or necessarily even wanting?? a sibling relationship with everyone he knows (that isn't somehow a parental figure either lmaoo) the type of person I could see filling that sort of role for Steve might be likeeee an almost queer older sibling? like someone he meets in his 20s who takes him under a gay wing. I know ppl like to imagine Eddie doing that for Steve but that's definitely not a sibling framework with them lol and also Eddie's dead </3 but I can see it happening when Steve and robin move out of hawkins and get involved with the gay scene. or maybe him getting into a line of work that ends up forming these close sibling like relationships. idk lol

idk mostly im fine with Steve being an older brother to dustin and max you know?

alsoooo it's totally fine to talk about urself <333 it helps inform ur head canons!! I mean im the absolute opposite of Steve I have siblings and I grew up so close with my cousins they’re practically also siblings, so hearing the only child side of living Does make a difference you know

I really liked that post you made about how Capcom feels about Narumitsu. And I'm wondering how do you think they feel about Narumayo? Personally to me it feels like they throw more hints at Narumitsu since with the other one if Takami wanted it to be canon he would of done it at the end of T&T. I also think the team could of made it more obvious in SoJ with Maya's big return but I never really saw the hints but I know I'm biased lol.

ahh... that ship,

well first, about the whole Takumi “wanting narumitsu to be canon” thing, its not exactly making them canon but have more fanservice leaning heavy towards narumitsu (which was declined by the director(?) who claimed, i sorta agree with, that the game did well even without the narumitsu hinting since in the first game they didn��t have that intention and it was pure coincidence that their relationship was just THAT deep and meaningful which is incredible lmao, Takumi and co managed to slip his warning and still put at least some of the hints in TT tho hhh-). so even then, i doubt the crew actually want the endgame to come so soon hh.

okay, back on topic. what i think about naru//mayo? yea, i’m not keen on that ship personally at all, actually i despise it. like, they first met in the office, in front of their dead loved one, Mia. Maya was 17, Phoenix was 24. you have Maya, who’s supposedly still in HIGH SCHOOL and Phoenix, who has GRADUATED COLLEGE, has a JOB, and most likely has PAID HIS OWN BILLS. from that point alone, it should already feel weird.

Maya’s an adolescence, a teenager, she just lost her sister and barely grew up, in a way she’s still innocent, notice how she tend to ask random questions and or say things that she thinks makes sense or amusing, she tends to be naive too. its kinda like.. a child.

and Phoenix on the other hand, is a grown man. heck even Maya says he’s an “old fart”, they’re legit aware of their own age gap in game and outright say it. if anything, they both act like self-aware best friends/brother-sister than romantically. even Maya said it herself, she wants to be a good big sister for Pearl and Nick.

now how about we ignore this obvious fact just for a little while and try to see it from only their interactions in-franchise. heres the kicker, you may not see it in game since they only lightly nudges about this ship (usually with Pearl, and was dismissed by Maya right after.), but in some of AA spin off mangas (and from what i heard, one of the stage shows), for some reason, this ship has their own hints despite being completely aware that Maya is a teenager.

but its okay now don’t hold your breaths,

their “hints” are more of a one-off ish thing, most of the time a gag and not taken seriously, and unlike other ship per say narumitsu, where it actually affects their lives and changed it forever IN-GAME. “i care about Maya and understands her” and “i became an attorney because of you, Edgeworth and i don’t have any regrets” are both literally incomparable, especially given Phoenix and Edgeworth’s history together in-game canon.

anyway, here’s some common arguments i’ve encountered about this particular ship :

“but Phoenix cares about Maya a lot! he literally went through a trial against a hitman and run through a burning bridge for her!”

“Phoenix blushed and goes red when Pearl says he’s Maya’s special someone and he stutters!”

“Well my parents had a huge age gap!"

“well, Maya is 18 in AA2″

“considering Maya is a christmas cake now, Nick better tap that”

“she’s an adult in AA6 tho”

now lets dissect each of these,

yes, Phoenix cares about Maya a lot he literally did cross a burning bridge for her but people seem to forget that this is the same man who turned his life around, abandon his dreams, study law for four years, and became an attorney to meet one man and willing to defend a girl who looks like his psychotic ex that nearly poisoned him in court. he literally would believe in his clients’s innocence no matter what, he’s by nature would sacrifice anything and even his life for someone. so its normal that he cares about Maya, but is it romantic? i doubt it, he cares about her safety and well being but does it have to be a romantic hint? no, of course not, he’s just very selfless for the people he cares about and Maya has no one to help her but Nick when she’s in trouble, he’s one of few adults she can trust and will help her out.

oh so blushing and stuttering due to embarrassment means having feelings now? and about the stuttering, he literally stutters around Edgeworth a lot lol. i’m starting to feel like people ships naru//mayo not because of their depth but because Pearl said so. Pearl finds them should be together and keep shoving the audience with Nick being “Mystic Maya’s special someone”, well if thats the case, they also explained why this happened, in-game. Pearl grew up very sheltered and among unhealthy marriages she just assumes a girl and a boy together means they’re dating and being “special someones”. she most likely just wants her cousin to be in a happy relationship unlike her parents where her father left both her and her mother but didn’t know any better because she was eight years old.

now about the parent thing and taking it personal, well my parents too had a huge age-gap of 7 years. but how come is it okay? its because they met when my mum was already a career woman at 26. she’s already an adult when my dad met her. what does this mean? it means my parents were both adults when they’re together, this is why i still like GumMaggey despite their age gap so wide, they first met when Maggey has already had a career, supposedly in her 20′s, she’s a young adult, she can buy alcohol by herself, already knows whats right and wrong and has live life independently, not a still hormonal teenager who depends on one adult figure. did your parents date when your mum is in highschool while your dad is like in his mid 20′s? sorry to hear that.

as for the last three arguments, i don’t even want to touch any of them with a five-foot pole. are you listening to yourself? do you not feel like you’re a creep typing that?

let me give you a benefit of the doubt. yes she’s older and legally an adult, but are you really discrediting the fact they met when Maya was still in highschool? they met and became friends when she’s 17 and he’s 24. sure they barely met during disbarment era, but should that change anything? why should it? how should it? like this?

“Oh this is Maya, i haven’t met her in years but boy she sure has grown up can’t wait to date her since she’s legal now.”

because thats what that argument sounds like, YIKES.

you know? if they met under a different circumstance and Maya was like 19, i’d let it go. but they didn’t, they met because of a horrible loss, Maya, still in training, 17 lost her big sister and Phoenix, a rookie, at 24 lost his mentor.

in conclusion, i don’t like naru//mayo at all

pairing them feels like pairing Edgeworth with Kay or Phoenix with Ema, just because they partnered in investigations, make playful jabs at each other, and saved each others’s lives before, people just think they like each other romantically despite their age-gap in first meetings (not to mention Kay sees Edgeworth as somewhat of a father figure, and she’s nearly 18 while Edgeworth is the same age as Phoenix). especially with how Maya, being a zoomer, calls Phoenix an “old fart” and just makes jokes about how so out-of-touch Phoenix is with the modern entertainment.

from observations, i have a huge hunch that almost all of them pair these two because :

1. Maya’s a girl protagonist so its a male protagonist x female protagonist type of deal and despise narumitsu because “yaoi”

2. AA6 she’s an adult so she’s legal which is damn creepy on its own, or last

3. because of Pearl shipping them in game despite being an eight year old and was so sheltered she thought a man and a woman being next to each other means they’re special someones.

either way, i only see them as best friends, sibling-like relationship with self awareness here and there since they tease the audience a lot with their gag “hints” in spin-off mangas and game.

not only that, it kinda showcase how all male/female bond don’t have to be romantic, they can be just friends or familial and still hang together. another plus for the franchise right after encouraging moving on from ex partners. *glancing at Phoenix//Iris*

and as to the people who pairs this for some odd reasons, sometimes i just want to ask these questions,

“how would you feel if you’re in Phoenix’s shoes? met your mentor’s little sister at age 17 while you’re 24, would you feel romantically interested in this high schooler?” because i don’t, to me anyone 3 years younger than me is like a baby, how would Phoenix feel when Maya’s 7 years younger?

“also... why even? narumitsu and other less questionable pairings are RIGHT THERE in the open!”

but oh well people can like and pair whatever hhh,

and there you have it, my even longer rambling hahaha sorry;;

Edit : To add the final nail to the coffin, Phoenix outright has said that Maya’s like his kid, like a niece.

Edit 2 : remember that this is simply my personal take, you can somewhat use this to make yourself feel better about your pair nor simply just to hate on the ship itself but do not use this to dictate actual people what to ship and not to ship.

random Sky headcanons because why not

he’d wear crocs. he finds them comfortable and loves all the colors they come in

dude just came out of school he probably still has the chaotic college student energy around him

one time when most of the chain’s sick or hurt or smth he offers to take the entire watch by himself. Time’s like “are. are you SURE? you’re gonna stay up the entire night???” and Sky’s just like “yeah i got it covered i did this all the time back in the academy” and Time just watches on in horror as Sky downs like 3 stamina potions

on the topic of school, i dont think he was anywhere near a straight As student (that’s most definitely Sun) but he’s not dumb either. he’s just a bit slow when it comes to doing schoolwork and he has no concept of time, so he’d end up doing the assignments like the night before it was due and turn in something half finished and/or not very polished

in terms of age i think he’s like, right in the middle of the group. Time, Wars, Twilight and Legend are older than him (though Legend’s just like, some months older at most) and the rest are younger. he just gives off middle sibling energy (in numbers i’d put him at like 19-20)

whenever he has a nightmare that has anything to do with any of the other Links, he’s on edge for like a week because he has no way to know if it was just a normal nightmare or a prophetic dream like the ones from before his adventure. so he just glues himself to that Link until he’s sure it was just a dream

i see the very common hc that he has asthma, and i add to that: there are air potions in his game. like literally just potions that make your oxygen wheel run out slower. so i hc he always carries some around as like an in-universe equivalent of an inhaler. Luv taught him how to make it so he could make some anytime (but only those, he still has to buy the other kinds from her. business is business)

i see almost everyone calls his loftwing ‘Crimson’ and that’s good and i love it but also. people in Skyloft supposedly get their loftwings when they’re children. i’d guess around 10 years old. so my hc is that Sky named his loftwing ‘Apple’ because it reminded him of the fruit. all the adults tried to convince him to give the loftiwng a more dignified name but he refused

might be just me projecting but i like to think he has adhd (the inattentive type) which is why he has trouble with time and is late to most things

he’s as much of a gremlin as the rest of the group he’s just better at hiding it. but if provoked he Will join the fun and jump off a cliff or two or light something on fire

he took the Ballad of the Goddess and played around with the notes until he ended up composing what would be known as Zelda’s Lullaby, all of this to make something that would help Sun calm down after her nightmares

cue Time or any of the other Links that know the song humming it unconsciously and Sky whiping his head around so fast he gets dizzy

kinda related to this? not really?? for some reason ever since i saw the Timeshift Stones in SS and saw that Sky does wood carving all the way back in 2011, i’ve had the headcanon that in the future he learns how to do stone carving and makes the ocarina of time, but it has no basis other than i think it’d be cool lol

this guy can get ANGRY. and you Don’t want him to do that. at least not directed at you. Sky’s powered by both love and rage and they’re both equally as terrifying when in his hands

i don’t think he’s as religiously devoted as many people make him? i feel like he’d have a complicated relationship with religion at most, given what he went through in his adventure (meeting so many deities, minor and major, and seeing how none of them can get their shit together and have to get help/can be defeated by a tiny human child? i’d be having some doubts)

he doesn’t like sudden touch. he can usually prepare himself for it if he sees the person walking up to him with the intention to give him a pat or a hug, but if you sneak behind him and grab his shoulder or something sudden like that? say bye to your kneecaps (he’ll apologize profusely afterwards)

he gives amazing hugs. like the warmest, softest hugs you can imagine. he’s the best human pillow out there. if you’re within reach of his sleeping form he’ll latch onto you like a baby koala to its mother and not let go until he wakes up

really overprotective of the rest of the Chain. he’d do his adventure 8 times over if it meant they’d be okay. this is partly because of the guilt he has over the curse and partly because he lowkey sees all of them as the little siblings he never had despite being younger than half of them

can’t forget the classic! he has lightning scars all over his right arm. because of this he always has his arm as covered in layers as possible

i think he’s ambidextrous! in SS he’s shown as using some of his weapons (namely the bow and slingshot) the left handed way, and seems to prefer using his left hand in some cutscenes. this could be the result of having to learn how to use his right hand for the Academy from an early age

awe thank you, i really appreciate that! i honestly only have a couple more prompts in my inbox currently, so im grateful for any and all you send my way! (even if there were a lot i really enjoy writing them so i don’t mind at all~)

ZEN:

* He’s so shocked???

* being well, Zen, he immediatly tried flirting with the new person in the RFA, only to immediatly be told by Seven that they’re 17

* Immediatly assumes a Big Brother Role and loves it

* He’s always defending MC, and telling them to let him know if any of the other members make them nervous, calls them frequently and if they’re in high school, checks on them and reminds them to eat and take breaks between studying

* Honestly he’s always wanted to be a big brother so he loves it lol, and he’ll be especially protective of MC from Jumin, constantly telling them to never grow up to be like him

* Will absoloutely let MC call him and vent about whatever is troubling them-as someone who was as troubled as he was at 17, he wants to make MC’s final teenage years as happy as possible wherever he’s able to

* Will Absoloutely interrogate whoever MC decides to date and treat them like a protective father lmao

YOOSUNG:

* Equally shocked, he would never expect someone so young to have to take on the big job Rika once had!

* Honestly he doesn’t care much about MC’s age, although he does feel a little threatened at first-he used to be the baby of the RFA, and whilst he would constantly complain about it, he did like the attention it brought him

* When at some point MC asks him for any advice and thanks them for it, he does feel a sudden surge of pride-he’s an only child and never really interacted much with people younger than him

* He’s the youngest so he still remembers what being 17 was like, and how overwhelming things could be, especially if MC’s in school

* He’ll do his best to help MC study, even meeting up with them and tutoring them-if their marks improve after it or it helps them in any way, he’ll be so excited!

* Will also become really protective of MC, and might even argue with Zen over who MC’s big brother is (hint-it’s neither of you y’all are like, in your early 20s chill)

* Just overall happy to have another friend in the RFA really

JUMIN:

* He...doesn’t....care?

* He’s surprised that V allowed someone so young to just, live in Rika’s apartment and take over her job, but he doesn’t really question it. After all, when he was 17 he was already pretty much running the company alongside his father.

* He’s as cold and aloof as always, although he’s confused as to why Zen becomes so protective and even more furstrated with Jumin than usual. Has he said anything to offend MC in anyway?

* He eventually calls MC and asks if they’re finding everything in the RFA allright, or if they need any help, and after getting to talk with them, sees why the whole of the RFA has taken such a liking to them-MC reminds them all of who they once were at that age.

* It’s not like anything drastically changes in his behavior-he’s still thankful that MC is doing their new job properly, but he’s careful to not overwhelm them with tasks, and frequently will ask if they need any help. He also insists that they should return to their home as soon as possible so as to not worry their family or care giver.

* If MC is a student, he’ll offer to hire one of the best tutors for them, even if they don’t need it-he considers it only natural to receive as many educational opprotunities as possible

((No Jumin, not everyone has had tutors during their high shcool years. Yes it’s doable pls stop nagging Zen about it))

* Yeah, overall he’s just the same as always lmao

JAEHEE:

* She’s actually really concerned when she finds out MC is only 17. How did V ever think that it’s alright to put someone so young into a predicament like this?!

* Will frequently call MC and check in with them, see if everything’s all right, if they need anything e.t.c

* She just really wants them to be comfortable in the RFA-not only does she remember how hard it was for her to adjust after joining, she can’t imagine how hard it is to be thrown into this situation at this age. She genially wants MC to be happy

* Might come off as a bit of a mother hen at first-even the rest of the RFA tell her she doesn’t have to keep worrying over MC so much, after all they’ve proved they’re a responsible person and can take care of themselves

((Take care of-THEY’RE A BABY she screams to deaf ears))

* She does however, realise that everyone else is right-MC is diligently doing their job, and seem to have their shit together. That however doesn’t stop her from watching over MC regardless.

* If MC tells her that they look up to her like a big sister, she’ll smile the softest little smile, happy that MC feels like they’re family

* after all, that’s what she too secretly hoped to receive from the RFA-the family she never had.

SEVEN:

* Obviously, with a quick search he found out MC’s age

* He’s concerned, yeah, but he’s also never really had a normal childhood ((understatement of the century)) and can’t really be certain wether it’s normal for MC to be in the situation they are at this age or not

* More or less he treats them exactly the same-he’s as concerned as he’d be for an MC of any other age really

* He does however constantly tease them about their age-he’ll say something along the lines of ‘back in MY day’ or ‘when i was your age...’ at least once per each chatroom lmao

* When/If he comes to Rika’s apartment to protect MC, he’ll be distant at first, but not as much as he’d be with an adult MC-he remembers what it’s like to be alone at that age, remembers how much he despised it-he can’t help but be a little more lenient with them. He’ll still try to push them away, alert them of the dangers of associating with him, but he’ll also constantly hover over MC, have them tell him about their troubles, making sure they eat e.t.c.

* P much just acting like an annoying big brother lmao

V/JIHYUN:

* As soon as he found out that MC’s only 17, he became insanely concerned.

* What was Rika thinking?! Why would they put such a young person in such danger?!

* He’s so worried, he can’t help but frequently log in to the messenger and call MC to make sure they’re alright and as safe as they can be.

* He’s taken care of Saeran and Saeyoung as young teens, so he’s probably the one to treat MC the most normally than any of the other RFA members. He’s patient and sweet with them, treating them like a mature person but also mindful of their age at the same time

* He finds it sweet how the rest of the RFA cares so much about MC-it brings him peace to know that no matter what, RFA will have their back.

* If they’re a student he’ll also try and help them study, mainly with more theoretical subjects like history, art e.t.c. He’s also frequently reminding them to take breaks and rest, that their mental and physical health will always be more important than schoolwork.

* Would honestly feel more like a doting dad than a big brother, he’s pretty much a perfect parental figure lmao

SAERAN:

* Of course he knew MC was 17, since he’s the one that brought them into the RFA in the first place

* Their age didn’t really have anything to do with why he chose them; he just did as he savior told him to and chose the person most suitable for the job

* He’s reminded of MC’s age through the little things-monitoring the RFA chatrooms and seeing how the members treat MC, how they’ll frequently talk about their schoolwork or daily life matters, little things that kept piling up in Saeran’s consiousness

* When he’s finally free from Rika’s grip and has a clearer view on things, guilt eats him up from the inside out at the fact that he put a person this young through such an ordeal-it’d be bad enough for anyone, but a person who’s not even an adult?!

* He’s reminded of the horrors he went through when he was young, the mess he’d been in when he was 17-it makes his stomach churn, to think he’s put another person through such horrors

* It’ll take a lot from MC to not only forgive him, but also help him understand it’s not his fault-he was genially not in control during those times, and his guilt proves that.

* He’ll try and avoid MC at first, but if they keep pushing, he’ll eventually open up and befriend them.

* He’s genially happy to see MC forgive and slowly forget about the whole Mint Eye ordeal, to slowly return to their everyday life, almost as if he’s seeing what he’s missed out during that age through them; it brings a bittwersweet feeling to his chest, to see what could’ve been.

* He’s not really a big-brother type-but he is a fiercly loyal friend, and he’ll be there for MC through thick and thin, and god have mercy on whoever dares try and hurt MC-hell hath no fury like an angry Saeran.

I’m sorry these were quite short, i really couldn’t think of much else T-T regardless of MC’s age, the whole RFA gang would care for them as a friend and family!

I really like how she’s like I guess most people in s1, quiet, timid, not quite fit into the Apoc. world, but learns to trust herself, get braver and open up. I’m kinda hoping they have something a plot that relates to taking care of the Grimes kids and a plot/s that relates to Rick’s journey/TWD show. Idk well I guess they be figuring it out what to do with Maggie and politics with the ..spoiler- new communities.

I hope for good writing and if they go canon, I hope they write good relationship/romance writing. As in they don’t separate them and break up a bunch of times or be boring. eek. I hope it’s like they still be like the subtle canon ship..like RIchonne as there is something else they have to do together. Like they be canon but they talk about the new plots/problems/family in s11 and their relationship grows.

meta for devasena’s age: truthfully i think this could actually go either way with her either being older or younger than baahu. (under the cut for length, also hella rambly lol)

all we really know is that baahu is 25ish when he meets her, maybe closer to 26 post kalakeya war and the months of travelling around the kingdoms. i’d put bhalla solidly at 26 at this time. devasena to me feels a little younger, a little more impetuous, but this could just be her own character or maybe the less responsibility she bears as a crown princess under her brother’s solid rule in comparison to baahu and bhalla who are emperors in training. devasena has a lot of freedom in kuntala and a lot of responsibility as well towards the protection of average citizens. i don’t think the age gap between baahu and devasena can be more than 4ish years because devasena is definitely not 20 -- she feels young to me, but not /that/ young in the sense that she has a very good sense of self that i associate with age and experience. it’s possible that again these are things she develops as a kid thrust into a position not meant for children, but still she doesnt feel 20 and anushka (who is 37 right now) certainly doesnt look 20 either. im leaning towards a devasena that is 24 when she meets a near 26 year old baahu, turns 25 in mahishmati, and thus is 50ish when she’s freed by mahendra.

we lean towards mama deva dying when they’re really really young, but i don’t think jayasena ascends the throne until after he’s 15, maybe even closer to 20 -- whether there’s a regent before that is up to you. i think there can be anywhere between a 6-10 year gap between devasena and jayasena where he clearly had a hand in raising her as is typical for all age gaps like that. that would mean devasena depending on the age gap and how old jayasena is when he ascends the throne could lose her mom and become “crown princess” anywhere from age 5 to 14. thats a really huge gap obviously so i’m going to put up my headcanon at the moment which tbh changes by the day for this timeline lmao.

starting with a 24 year old devasena, she definitely seems very secure in her role and responsibilities as a crown princess -- if she becomes crown princess at 14 (jayasena between 20 to 24) this still gives her a decade to become comfortable which is very possible. as a fandom though i think we lean towards mama deva dying when she’s younger, but i think devasena needs to have a relatively stable childhood which you wouldn’t find in a girl who lost her parents /too/ young. i think for me mama deva dies of a prolonged illness, something so mundane frustrating to watch that devasena drowns herself in responsibilities to escape the horror. there’s definitely no plot because i dont see her as someone drowning in resentment in kuntala: the cornerstone of my characterization is that she’s well adjusted in her homeland, and generally satisfied with her life, maybe getting a little bored with the mundane routine.

devasena’s father, the queen consort, maybe dies in an accident or even in battle against bandits like the pindari when devasena is around 9. devasena’s mother starts to show early signs of illness when devasena is 11, progresses until she’s really ill by the time devasena is 13, and finally when the queen dies when devasena is 14 it’s been so long and such a miserable affair that everyone is almost glad its finally over. (the queen most of all, particularly since she never got over her husband’s death.) this gives jayasena years to basically transition into raising devasena from the time she’s 11, though obviously as a much older sibling he had a hand in raising her earlier. devasena nurses a grudge against the pindari and other bandits that is tied up in her blazing love for her father who was there one day and then gone the next. when her mother is sick for years, jayasena has to spend lots of time with the queen on her good days to learn his royal duties before its too late (he’s anywhere between 17-21 when she starts getting sick). devasena, who’s at a very temperamental and hormonal age but knows that she cant vent her rage, frustration and sadness where her mother might see devotes herself to learning how to fight, how to keep kuntala safe like her father once did. the bandits take advantage of the queen consort’s absence and the queen’s frailty and keep encroaching on kuntalan farmland -- everyone occupied with the slow transfer of power from the queen to jayasena just lets it slip. (except devasena.) as devasena improves she asks the general to take her on raids, starting with wild animals like boars until around 13 when she pulls the same trick baahu sees her doing for the first time (helpless maiden in a palanquin.) at this point i think jayasena has become devasena’s primary parent/caregiver, while the queen has become almost deified -- devasena visits her once every day and tries to be as gentle and kind as she can be so as to not upset her. of course this doesnt always work, and visits end up being more like confessionals, where devasena pours out her heart and her mother comforts her and gives advice and tells her stories. but discipline is jayasena’s domain, as is taking care of the day to day aspects of devasena’s general life.

when we meet devasena at 24 she’s basically the product of three parental/caregiving figuress: her mom and dad both of whom she remembers, is influenced by deeply, and loves dearly and also her brother jayasena. he’s probably been married for at least 3-5 years because devasena’s clearly comfortable with sumitra, so maybe another elder sisterish figure there. all this means that despite the loss in her life she isnt nearly as affected as, say baahu might be in a similar position. devasena of course is never orphaned in the way biju makes baahu feel like he is, and she always has family. but also she is never plagued by existential questions in a way baahu might be: she knows her parents loved her because she remembers them. baahu’s parents never knew him and so he never understands how they might have loved him. (until devasena tells him she’s pregnant, and he realizes that he loves his child so deeply already that if his own birth parents loved him even half so much it would have been more than enough.) the adventure and allure of mahishmati is more about kuntala just maybe getting a little boring on a day to day level, rather than a need to run away from her life. she’s gotten a little too big for kuntala, and her romance with baahu is built on the foundation of a relatively happy and safe childhood and home life that we see in the kuntala scenes, she is always safe and in control, and it is under these circumstances that she allows herself to pursue her interest in baahu (home court advantage basically.) if her life was at all tumultuous she would not let herself open up -- we’ve seen how in mahishmati the uncertainty had her entirely on the defensive, lashing out at inopportune times. she’s confident of her place and role in kuntala, and so she allows herself to explore the controlled uncertainty of a romance with baahu.

I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED. ive been Purchasing various smelly candles for my gay divination activities, and i have a few nominees. i first thought of the candle i have now, a pink one with a very sweet vanilla smell, i love very sweet smells because it makes me think of candy which i tend to try to fill my inner void with. however im going to go with the first candle i bought, a dark orange one with a citrus smell. citrus scents are my next favourite and specifically this one reminded me of curiously smelling candles at my piano teachers apartment when i was very young.

i dont even remember i probably had some kind of fairy wings? i think i remember fairy wings. we went to one (1) house. later on, since we werent allowed to go trick-or-treating, we were each allotted a certain amount of candy, and if we ate more than a designated amount per day, we were in trouble and wouldnt be allowed anymore. i do remember getting in trouble for this. i think i stole someones candy. sibling against sibling. finally we were allowed to go trick or treating, i went with my younger brothers and by then, was a teenager and felt too tall and really uncomfortable

LMAO I JUST REMEMBERED THAT LAST TIME WE WENT TRICK-OR-TREATING NOT IN A RURAL AREA, my dad drove us around in a van and watched us like a hawk i believe. it was very tense and methodical.

1. What takes too much of your time?

Day dreaming and worrying. So much worrying...

2. What makes your day better?

Knowing that I'm cared for and appreciated by someone who means a lot to me. And food 😅

3. What's the best thing that happened to you today?

One of the horses at our rescue followed me around the pasture the entire time I was out there and I'd be damned if I didn't melt! Mayhaps I really missed working on a farm 🤗

4. What fictional place would you like to go to?

Questions like these are hard cause I'm over here like okay the maze runner universe would be pretty dope, but what about shadow hunters! Oof wHat AboUt TeEN WoLf!! The possibilities are endless! :0

5. Are you good at giving advice?

Mm yeah, sometimes. Other times I feel like my advice is complete shit lmao.

Depression and Anxiety, both diagnosed.

I feel like Shawn Mendes really inspired me the most. I know there's a good handful of people that became famous from song covers on YouTube and all that, but I really like the way Shawn Mendes has stuck to him and his guitar for the most part, especially on tour. His voice is something relaxing and unique that I can get behind. And he's such a down to earth person, I'd love to meet him sometime and tell him he's doing amazing and how much he's helped me through his music!

9. Have you ever fallen in love?

Yeah, you know how it goes 😶

10. What's your dream date?

Honestly? Roadtripping to the desert or anywhere that's far from light pollution and spending a night under the stars. Just talking and tangled in each other, sometimes just staying silent and listening to the sounds of the night around us. Maybe our playlist is playing softly in the background and the campfire we started has burned out hours ago, while we lay on the trucks tailgate admiring the sky. Oof, I'm gonna cry I want this so bad 😭

11. What do others notice about you?

Weirdly, my nose? Literally everyone always talks about my nose! I don't know why but it's kinda weird. And my eyes.

Always thinking I'm not good enough. Annoys almost everyone I've met lmao!!!

Yeah, we talk almost every day! We're still great friends 😊

Guitar, violin (although it's been a while, I'm probably rusty as hell!), a bit of clarinet and a bit of piano. I was learning piano before I left for college, I wish I would've picked it up earlier :(

Uhhh.... probably Hyunjin and Wonpil if I'm honest. My phone is just kpop boys n gals and I'm happy with myself 😁

18. Where would you like to go before you die?

Back to my roots! I'd love to go to Poland, Hungary, and Wales. And Iceland or Norway just because the landscapes are so beautiful there and I just wanna see it with my own eyes!

Here and there, yeah. But I can't say I'm a Taurus through and through. Some of the traits that are tied to my sun sign aren't tied to me individually. As example, Possessive is one of them that I am not!

To me, happiness is seeing someone else near and dear to your heart smiling and happy themselves. Even if it's not your doing. You're just happy to see them happy!

A lot, yes. Partially why I haven't been as active on tumblr as I'd like to be.

Letting people walk all over me because I'm too nice sometimes.

Vidlers! I used to go in there a lot when I was a kid and they had this popcorn maker that always made the store smell like fresh popcorn! Ahh that takes me home 😄

25. What's your opinion on abortion?

I think it all depends on the situation. If a young female is raped or wasn't educated properly about safe/protected sex, then I'd say she's more than free to go through with it. But of course, if you're gonna fool around yet know about protected sex, and not use a condom? I think that's your personal problem and you should experience what other mother's who have planned to have kids have gone through. But again, I personally think abortion depends on the situation and shouldn't be the easy way out.

Yeah! And the list gets longer and longer and longer....

Nah, I've got too much music to have a specific favorite album!

The jackpot 😂 or just to spend time with my parents and see my dogs again! It's been literal months 😣

All my friends know that I'm good with kids and so I'm instantly suited and qualified to be a teacher?! Year and a half ago.

As I said before, I don't really care if I marry or not. But if I did find someone I'd want to marry, generally speaking, around 30 would be a good age for me. I'd want to make sure I'm financially stable and happy where I am in my life before taking such a step like marriage.

49. What career did you want to have as a child?

First it was Figure skater, then I wanted to be an Equestrian. I stuck with the animal career cause I wanted to be a vet, and here I am in college for that exact reason!

Idk I also like that we see characters like Daryl and Carol what we stereotypical think they may be like in s1 but then we see they’re relatable and we can be more open minded to other people. I liked that we see him getting a chance to grow and see how loyal he is. 31. Did Carol help you? ||Yeah. I really like how she’s like I guess most people in s1, quiet, timid, not quite fit into the Apoc. world, but learns to trust herself, get braver and open up. She’s like so strong and brave now but it’s not surprising to see that in a way because we see her character development and I like how writers and acting, made it so relatable and realistic to me. We all can be like Carol. //I think she’s a great character to watch for mothers who lost kids or was a abused wife. Same with Daryl as a abused child/brother in that Merle’s lifestyle.

Star Trek: Discovery: some thoughts

So I’m several episodes in. I had a Trekker friend who complained passionately, even to the point of being judgmental of people who like and defend the show. He is younger than us and grew up on TNG, and to him, TNG is the Platonic ideal of all Trek. These are my thoughts. 1. Spore drive. Ok. I grew up on TOS, *not* TNG - TNG didn’t come out until I was 14. To be honest, the spore drive isn’t really any weirder than Space Nazis, Space Hippies, flying fried eggs of death, “Eed plebnista,” Greek gods = Ancient Aliens, Giant Space Amoeba, a probe almost destroying the earth over not making contact with whales, Sexy Ubermensch, Fake Space Yahweh, Satan is from a race of benevolent aliens (the animated series), or any of the rest of the genuinely preposterous stuff that the old crew got up to. It’s far more Terrence McKenna than the actual namesake of Paul Stamets, but I kind of enjoy that, tbh. I’m sure that psychedelia culture would have found its way into old Trek if the show had lasted long enough, given when it was out. It’s at most stupid fun, like all the other stupid fun that was on the show. You can’t tell me that a show that gave us SPACE HIPPIES wouldn’t have had Space Shrooms. Sometimes I feel like a lot of younger fans and I didn’t watch the same show. 2. Klingons. Ok. I like the characterization. In some ways it fits TOS Klingons more than TNG Klingons. However... I agree with everyone else that the makeup redesign is just Too. Much. What the fuck is with the extra nostrils and the xenomorph shaped heads? Yikes. They aren’t recognizably Klingon anymore. The speech doesn’t bother me. Languages have dialects and differing accents. The clothes don’t bother me. Fashion changes. 3. Vulcans. YES. “Enterprise” made Vulcans so bland and boring. The Vulcans in Discovery are familiar to me from TOS, the Animated Series, the movies, and the Pocket Book novels. Sarek is almost perfectly cast to me. 4. The crew is full of eccentric, passionate people with strong personalities. I love it. My TNG fan friend hates this (”why is everyone always arguing”). I don’t hear them as arguing, I just see them as all having... strong personalities. It took TNG and VOY a while to really establish the personalities of the characters. The TNG crew seemed such a monoculture to me and so many characters in Trek shows, short of TOS and DS9 and the occasional alien walk-on, seemed so generic. And I found TNG alienating after their treatment of Barclay. I found it actually alienating and offputting, because Barclay is a character I found myself identifying with... that show was not kind to its eccentrics (but kudos to Picard for remaining the adult in most situations). TNG tended to merely tolerate them. Discovery actually lets them be eccentric. 5. Most of my complaints are with the aesthetics. The art direction. The ship just looks *too* high-tech inside. I get that moderns expect cyberware and holographic displays and shiny surfaces, and there will always be zeerust issues with any Trek. I get that a ship that looks like the inside of a Soviet reactor room (the way that the 60s Enterprise did) isn’t appropriate for modern audiences. I was able to get past this after a while. I already talked about the Klingons. Any complaints I have are small compared to the blunder of the Klingon makeup. 6. Michael being Spock’s foster sister. Ok... I was skeptical but I rolled with it after a while, it’s not like Spock EVER talked about his family life unless it was forced out of him. It took a whole season to learn he had a fiance, Kirk had no idea who his parents were until “Journey to Babel,” and it took 20+ years for us to know he had a brother. So it’s in character that if his dad had a foster child, that he’d never, ever mention it. I didn’t get into it really for the first couple of episodes. The first season is flawed. But it’s not worse, really, than other Trek shows have been. I did not get into the first season of TNG *at all* for the most part.
