i feel like im playing the game right. unlike stardew, fields of mistria doesnt make me feel bad for not using every second of the day. i think fom has a nice balance between easy and not too easy

i kinda feel like im going slow and fast at the same time? time during the day passes in a blink of an eye but when i look at the calendar im like still halfway through the season. idk how to feel abt it yet

my time management is so bad 😭😭 im terribly forgetful so i'd like set a goal for the day and a second later i'd be like "wait what" but i dont usually mind cuz i dont feel rushed by the game at all which i really appreciate. i think that mistria places a huge emphasis of getting to know the people and i love that

i like a LOT about the game: the soundtrack (especially the mines music), the aesthetics, character sprites art, environment art, the art in general, i LOVE the characters so much, it feels like everyone has their own thing but you can't tell all of the stuff they're about immediately i think? like i didn't realize Holt made toys until i saw his station in his house, i love environmental storytelling <33 honestly i love that most of them are so kind to you, it's the kind of game i personally needed. i love that the combat is not a clicker and that u gotta watch how the monsters act to figure out the best way to defeat them, i love the set up, i love that the earthquake has lingering consequences on the town and the community. it's a lot of fun <33 ofc i have some criticizms too and stuff to improve but im too tired rnfjsndbd

OH AND THE LORE!!! i need to know more about mistria's lore. especially the magic and all that stuff thats goin on in the mines

i love all of the characters fr, my fav love interesrs are Ryis and Adeline. Ryis is just so sweet and kind and gorgeous, he loves birds, he's from a family of bakers, he has family with a lot of sisters in the capital that send him care packages with cookies, HE LOVES BIRDS (<- it was the thing that had me like "you're the one"bfjsnhdsnbd) just a disney princess type of guy

Adeline just got me in her palms and i'm not even sure why or how exactly yet but all i know is that i walk around her like a puppyfjsnbd she's such a nerd and i adore her, she loves doing paperwork and calls it a "party", she is the heir to the land and she loves taking care of it and its people but forgets to take care of herself and im just like *biggest wettest eyes at her* also pink hair. oh mh god

and like i think all of the other townies are so cool. I love the kids, theyre the cutest and i love seeing them around town doing their thing. i love that we have different models of families like. man i'm so excited for more stuff in this game

omg thanks for your response!! i feel like i relate to many things you said. i haven't played a farming sim before bc i didn't think i would like it. since i would prefer games w some kind of story or lore, i didn't think this game would be for me. really, i had no idea what to expect in the game

i feel like i'm also going slow and fast while playing! the day goes by so so quickly but i also feel like maybe i'm not doing enough. sometimes i'm thinking "why are my crops growing so slowly please grow faster!!!" but then i'm surprised w how quickly they grow. i get up and see my tomatoes and corn ready to be harvested. but for the most part, i feel like i'm going at it too slow. i'm almost done w summer but i just got magic

i relate to what you said about time management. there are some items on a task that i just couldn't find so i do another task. then i just entirely forget to search for that item (like i cannot find seaweed still). then literally TODAY i was in the mines for too long and had to rush home. the next in-game day i went to the mines earlier in the day to not make the same mistake.

the music in the game is amazing! i find myself humming along while playing or humming when i'm doing something else. i'm surprised that i even remember how the music goes. i've played totk for a bit but i can't remember a single song. i love how everyone has different seasonal outfits. i really like how celine has a different outfit in the early morning. (idk if other characters have a different outfit at that time i can't remember). i'm glad i could play the game bc i'm gonna be moving back to school soon and this would be a nice way to take a break from coursework.

i also like how most of the characters are nice to your farmer. i just cannot pick one favorite character. it's too hard for me to bc they are all so lovely 😭. i agree that the kids are cute! i try to give luc a bug each time i see him.

i have been following wicked for so long and can words just cant describe how much i love the world building in this fic!! like even after not re-reading the previous chapters before the new update i could always just fall right into it immediately when i start reading the new ones.

first of all !!?!? immaculate!! I love seeing longtime fans talk about seeing the progress of character growth over a fic, it’s one of my favorite things!! Its especially now that we’re in late-game wicked and I’m finally able to write the things I had been writing during the draft!!

This is honestly such a fun story arc in the story’s and next chapter is even better as a certain….ahem fight breaks out 👀 Seeing MC grow more confident in her own combat abilities was something that I didn’t think much of during the beginning of wicked but it’s become SUCH a little treat, given her background for such a thing is so unlikely, makes me happy that I went this route with her even if a lot of others may have preferred to preserve her original character.

ALSO !!!! Another thing about this story arc is that we get a much more intimate look into Jungkook’s childhood trauma and his personal feelings and stories about a lot of things, it’s just such a sweet and intimate experience along with them becoming more and more smitten with each !!! hence babies potentially being made 👀

And when I say a ton, I mean a ton, because I cooked like 10 and it was barely enough. Although, I am pretty bad at combat, so maybe that's just me

Just bring a lot of food (especially gloom-healing stuff) basically, the endgame fight in this game is so much harder than botw's, even with 16 hearts I still almost died several times

Oh also bring a lot of bombs if you like using those because I started the fight with like 60 bombs and ended up with 5 by the end

oh yeah im currently preparing all that lol i meant in terms of story! the 'find princess zelda' quest is still incomplete in my log so i want to make sure there are no other main quests i need to complete to finish the game w the true ending lol

hey okay ahhh. it took me a bit to get back to this cause i genuinely had to think about it- jst because while yeah i DO play a lot of games, i have a habit of not finishing them??? its a whole thing BUT.

its down between two for me- and yeah its hunter-core of me to say this, but BUT BUT- TLoZ twilight princess really really has stuck with me.

as it being my first zelda game/introduction to the series i got it used on whim and literally have over 100 hours in a save file (look- you CAN clear it in shorter time but i just was really into it-) and its a game ive actually replayed two or three times in full??? its just such a good zelda game (people will talk shit about the wii version but gamecube prices/the hd port to wii u istg- i WILL settle for motion controls- actually they didnt bother me too???). i just like the entire gritty feeling of the world and how realistic it looks. its mature while also the standard linear progression to pre botw zelda. botw is good- but its one of those games i said earlier about not finishing haha. twilight princess is just THAT. like it hooked me. same with the entire soundtrack and just- mannnn i cant even explain it! skyward sword is good too- but i just hold tp closer from the zelda games ive played (which arent many but i really think theyre cool as someone who only had a knowledge of solely nintendo=mari> for years, branching out on their other ips was a cool experience).

and the other one would be the 2018 insomniac spider-man game. when i played it FAR after its release (like in 2022 lmao) i just couldnt put it down. like everything from the combat to how fluid the web-slinging feels- it all just flowed so naturally to where it engrossed me as a whole. i fully wasted an entire weekend to beat the entire mf game. THATS how into it i was 💀😭.

oh and the ending of the story literally made me almost cry. AUGH. im not gonna spoil it but damn </3. i really would like to get a ps5 eventually to play though the sequel. miles morals eventually too- ik that ones pretty short so it shouldnt be that long. uhhh- im not even like a superhero person either- like im not diehard into the marvel universe but i just really heard such things about it over the years and it delivered for me.

i could probably say honorable mentions with neo: the world ends with you or doom 3. its a whole thing. i mainly play anime games (not alllllll the time but a lot of my ps4 library consists of anime games.)

Zelda Twilight Princess <3 played it when i was a kid and i LOVE it . ive never been able to actually beat it though because my DISK WAS SCRATCHED and it got to a point where it just wouldnt progress :( but im emulating it rn !!!! its a little wonky bc the motion controls DO NOT TRANSLATE VERY WELL . its also BIG so the emulator has a hard time running it sometimes

anyway in aoc i think zelda should have been a warrior queen and that should've been her arc. because zelda is amazing and beautiful and powerful and courageous and smart and intelligent and wise and because aoc is literally ALL ABOUT COMBAT. ZELDA GETS THREE MODES OF BATTLE. SHE SHE HAS SCENES WHERE SHE COMMANDS THE ARMY. WHERE SHE TAKES COMMAND AND CONTROL OF HYRULE. THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN HER ARC!!!!!

(p2 of the botw/aoc rant) botw was about the corrupt rules and expectations being destroyed and zelda + Link being free of them. aoc should have been about zelda actively choosing not to allow those expectations in her life anymore. AND ABOUT COSTUMES: BOTW ZELDA HAD HER RESEARCH GEAR TO SHOW HOW SHE DIDN'T FIT INTO HER SOCIETY'S EXPECTATIONS. AOC ZELDA SHOULD'VE WORN HER BIG DRESS TO SHOW HOW SHE TAKES CONTROL OF HER SOCIETY'S EXPECTATIONS. IM RIGHT. BOTW ZELDA SHOULD CUT HER HAIR TO SYMBO

While I definitely agree that Zelda should have been allowed to be more badass, I feel like her being a warrior queen and also a representation of someone who turns against her society's expectations is a contradiction. She IS is expected to be a leader, she is expected to be a warrior, a weapon, with her goddess power. If Zelda just, becomes a warrior queen, then she's not defying anything, she's just becoming stronger, which on it's own isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does contradict the original message of botw.

I mean in a sense, hwaoc Zelda DID do that, her arc was not about defying expectations, but growing stronger to fulfill them. And in that sense, I think it WOULD have been cool if they actually dug into this and just went full throttle into bad ass Zelda.

But the thing is that hwaoc tries to have it both ways, they try to have a stronger Zelda while ALSO trying to work in this "underdog" dynamic that she has a researcher, which doesn't really work, and is one of my problems with the story as a whole.

Breath of the wild Zelda was told to become stronger by distancing herself, and praying, and focusing only on her powers, in order to prevent tragedy. In the end, Zelda only grows closer to Link, and even AFTER tragedy has occurred, she still possess the strength to find hope through her grief/love. That strength that she possess is attained in the exact opposite way that was expected of her, and it persists for an entire century.

Age of Calamity Zelda was supposedly also told to become stronger by distancing herself from her hobbies and attachments, and focusing on her powers. But then...also she spends the entire game around her friends, and also continues to research technology with Purah, Robbie, and even Terrako. And also she has no conflict or obstacles when it comes to getting closer with Link. She has one hiccup at the Spring of Courage, but it is then dealt with with Impa--again, the occurrence really only happening on a major scale just this once. Simply put, everything that made botw Zelda's struggle interesting and real, is removed and paved away in hwaoc. So when hwaoc Zelda finds her powers and leads armies and defeats her enemies, it no longer has the same impact because there was nothing at stake. There wasn't nearly as many obstacles in her way. She was encouraged to become this person, and she did. This wasn't her "defying" her expectations, but literally just living up to them.

And I assume THAT is what you mean when you say when you want a warrior Zelda in hwaoc, and frankly given the story, I would agree. At least if they went with a bad ass Zelda for this game, there wouldn't be the giant elephant in the room that her entire personality contradicts this. Zelda, the tinkerer, the silent princess, can't just automatically transform into a goddess powered weapon of destruction that leads armies. Hwaoc literally just shoehorns in the "importance" of her tinkering at the end with Terrako's sacrifice--but don't even get me started on that fucker--which again TOTALLY CONTRADICTS everything else they set up about Zelda up until this point. It's not a revelation that Zelda's tinkering was helpful, because it literally has been the entire game, there wasn't an obstacle there, her father LITERALLY allows her to. So to recap: hwaoc zelda is both a strong princess that lives up to her expectations, and also had no issues with being this person and also tinkering with Sheikah technology and also doesn't struggle to leader Hyrule's armies as soon as she finds her magic glowy hands.

I just H, I know half of this isn't coherent, but I'm just,,You are right anon, hwaoc Zelda should have been more badass, because even if it costs completely upsetting her journey and personality in botw, at least it would make the story more coherent

skyward sword hd review

let me first clarify that this review is solely based on a first time play through of the game, not if it is a better version of the wii one. i will be treating it as if the wii version does not exist.

when i had finished breath of the wild, i had believed that revisiting or beginning any older zelda game would be ruined for me.

im glad i was wrong.

let me explain my relationship with skyward sword. i hadnt really gotten into zelda until around 2014/2015, as the only game i had played was phantom hourglass.

by that time, there werent any home console games (that werent ports), and i didnt own a wiiu so it didnt matter. by 2017, i had gone through a couple of games at that point, mostly ocarina, majoras, phantom hourglass and link's awakening. so not much.

i had found a used copy of twilight princess for the wii at eb games, and was obsessed for it for a bit. then i wanted skyward sword, and was never able to find it until i left the country, finding it in a game stop in buffalo new york.

even when the game was in my possession, i never played it as i hadnt finished twilight princess (worse when i got my switch the same year i had found tp and abandoned it for a while), and didnt have a wii motion+.

then the hd announcement was made and i was happy but also mad because i spent a year searching for the wii version. whatever.

i wasnt able to start the hd version until a few days after its release as i was busy hungover during release weekend. then i was able to get into and spent an average of six and a half hours playing it almost every night. crazy. especially since it takes me eons to finish games, let alone zelda games.

now lets get into the game itself. i dont need to introduce i dont think, so lets talk about what i think.

first, i think this link visually is a downgrade from twilight princess link. i think its to do with his under eye bags. i appreciate that hes a lot more expressive, however.

i love zelda. this is one of few games where shes actually interesting, and shes gorgeous. really a slap in the face to twilight princess zelda, who is one of the best designs, but is as interesting as a piece of stale bread.

i can kind of understand why some might not have liked it ten years ago, skyloft a stark contrast to dark, brooding hyrule from twilight princess. personally i loved it. its okay to like colour sometimes.

im sorry for comparing it to twilight princess again, but tp starts off so slowly, my least favourite ways to begin games. skyward sword starts off quite quickly, and it isnt long before youre off to save zelda.

i cant really say much about the story, not that i didnt like it but that nothing i say will be new or innovative.

now lets address motion controls. i didnt play with them, i really cant. drift. but i found myself missing it sometimes because i occasionally found it difficult wielding my sword using a joystick, but that may be more user error.

usually im hopeless about combat in zelda, but i think over 250 hours in breath of the wild improved my ability a lot. i found it easy to grasp but not repetitive enough i hated fighting. i hate fighting because its scary.

something breath of the wild will never have on older zeldas though are dungeons. i usually find doing dungeons tedious as i find them too complicated unless i have a guide, but i was able to do 95% of all the dungeons without consulting a guide, as the puzzles were easy in a sense where i could figure it out with a bit of tinkering, and not in a "in and out of the temple in 20 minutes" way. the longest temples for me personally were the sandship (two and a half hours) the fire sancturary (two hours and twenty minutes) and the ancient cistern (two hours and twenty five minutes) ((yes i kept track)).

they were fun and the puzzles were fun to figure out. however, not every boss fight is made equal. my favourite was obviously koloktos, while scaldera was probably my least.

my least favourite part of the entire game had to be the trials, though. theyre the reason why skyward sword will not be a consistent replay for me, as they stressed me out immensely. i much greatly preferred the eldin stealth mission in which all my items are taken from me, because at least im not being hunted down and can do things at my own pace. and i just hate being chased.

the sidequests were enjoyable too, i enjoyed the little majoras mask throw back, as its my favourite game. i liked collecting gratitude crystals as well, as being able to get them all pushed me to do the side quests. i dont have one i particularly enjoyed as most of them seemed to be fetch quests.

i wish the beetle was available in every game, it helped immensely.

another part of the game i disliked was sealing the imprisoned, it was annoying and stressful and all three fights were more or less the same.

i think the thing i liked the most about this game was obviously zelink. again, zelda is so full of life, and compard to other games, they actually had a connection previous to link's saving her.

the final boss demise is difficult, definitely refreshing after the pitiful ganon from breath of the wild. while its not particularly long, it is extremely difficult and tests your swordsmanship.

ghirahim is a fantastic villain. hes camp. hes hellbent on destroying you, and fighting him was frustrating but so satisfying.

i finished this game in an under a month, and im happy i did, but sad that its over now. after finishing it i can confirm my top ten zelda games are

oh is it time to share the revised story of YOU/ME since its been a year since the last telling. This spoils nothing if you consider events before the in-game date nonspoilers. YOU/ME starts on the fjallo island, fjallo roughly meaning Hidding Mountains Island due to it's geography

The fjallo island is home to occupents created to resemble humans and animals, and is believed to have been shaped by the creation two children to be the perfect home to their creations. The gods then decided that the perfect home needed the perfect people, but knew humanity was bound to create error, so they then created a system that would balance the chaos and peace of humanity, known as the Moral System. The two children then each created a being, one out of peaceful waters and sand, and one out of stormy weather and smooth mud --- this made the Queens, Konsanus and Disonus. These two upheld perfect balance to the system and it's people, and were designed as the perfect lovers.

The children watched as they were the perfect mothers to their designs, and watched as their world came together.

One day, one of the children decided they wanted to live in this world of their creation and be amongst the love. The other child became scared,thinking their best friend was leaving them. They threatened that if their friend leaves to the world, they will create chaos and destroy all the good; in return, the other child said they'll create order and peace to combat their chaos. The two children thus shattered and entered the world.

For a long time it seemed the world was at peace and the Queens did their job. Small medical personel were being set up on the island to scope a recent uptick in a strange and untraceable sickness, but the patients were few and there was nothing to worry about. Another kingdom, the Comicals, requested asylum on their island after the creator continent became too crowded for them, and the Queens granted them land beyond the reflection of the puddles that appear on the South end. The Comicals thanked the Queens and moved into the puddle reflections.

At this time, the Queens began to entertain the idea of having a child, a next of kin that would embody the balance the queens brought except as a single, unified person.

Mimi and Knogler, the two trained medical aids on the island, oversaw this. Mimi, a skeleton, and Knogler, a mouse, encouraged this coming and believed the child would bring a new hope to the island.

However, Mimi is not entirely to be trusted. With the small outbreaks of illness, designated "The Decay", Mimi's girlfriend Daria had caught the infection, especially due to being weaker than one typically is. Daria and Mimi would scuffle over how much Mimi spends working (both at school and in the medical field) over being with Daria, and in return Mimi argues hes working to cure Daria so that he doesn't have to "spend the last precious time" she has. Daria notices how much Mimi has grown irritable and jumpy, and worries he's overworking himself ---- one day, she comes to his basement working space in his house in an attempt to pull him away for a few minutes. Mimi immediatley becomes agitated and attempts to throw Daria out, but who retaliates by grabbing a kitchen knife. Mimi manages it away however and ends up stabbing Daria.

In the Comical world, the princess IIIIIIII has become crowned as the queen, and the Comicals call for a celebration with the Fjallo kingdom. A court party is setup, and the Queens come down to see the event, bringing their own court and their magical court jester, Comica.

Maliia, the Comicals court jester, had recently been suffering nightmares, violent nightmares of uncontrollable power bestowed on her and ascending to the realm of a god, but brushes them off as ludicrous overimagimation due to being understimulated, as she had grown less of use in the court.

During the court party, Comica and Maliia werw to perform together and do magic tricks, as they are the only ones who can. Maliia suggests a new routine she's been wanting to do,but Comica objects and says practice is what makes magic safe, and they can't be reckless. Maliia agrees, but becomes rather drowsy during the wait to perform due to not sleeping well. When they do perform, all seems well, but Maliia begins to feel increasingly drowsy, and doses off mid-performance ---- when she suddenly snaps awake, she finds the court in chaos and Comica before her, her face entirely ripped off.

On the greater Continent, a riff in a marriage causes a young goat mother to flee with her surviving son to the fjallo islands, wounded. Maliia is sent to execution, Mimi begs for the god of time, Stopper, to reverse his actions on his girlfriend, Comica is forced under a new alias, and the Queens become anxious about the sudden rise in disorder.

Thankfully, a month amidst the chaos, the newchild is born to the queens. The fjallo island rejoices at the new era of balance, and hopes the child will restore the world to what it was.

But the next morning, when Disonus comes to gather the child from its room, she finds that it had passed away in the night, barely surving a day.

Nahan, the gardener and right hand helper to Disonus, attempts to console her, but Disonus, heartbroken by the loss of her child, flies out of the room, grabbing the coveted sword of mercy and fleeing the castle. She disappears before the news reaches Konsanus.

It only gets worse from then on. Konsanus announces to the kingdom the death of the child and the disappearance of Disonus, and the kingdom uproars at the news; people begin to call for the hunt and execution of Disonus, blaming her for the decay of the kingdom; others say Disonus should be welcomed back, and without her they'll only fall deeper. The divide in the people became severe, and then violent. Three days of mass war broke between the supporters, claiming a few casualties and many victims.

Eventually, Konsanus called for an Emergency Unrule ---- anybody who wants to live under the rule of Konsanus is to move inside the greater walls, and whoever wishes not to must move out of it. Konsanus supporters drove into the town behind the wall, while Disonus supporters moved South to hide beyond the mountains. Those mixed or uncertain stayed in the town, and Konsanus officially silence herself behind the walls of her castle.

She wanted to bring Disonus back, and decided to try for her own child. However, without Disonus, they could become tainted, so immediatley the newborn was placed behind a door in a room of nothing, not to be let out until the queens return.

11 years later, Konsanus falls ill to the Decay, and Disonus still hasn't returned. The child, You, is called before their mother after 11 years alone, and given the task: find Disonus, or never come back.

Winter Anime 2019 Part 4: That’s all, folks.

Over already? This is a pretty thin season with not a lot of shows, so it’s not that surprising that there’s not many good ones either. Still, a weak showing. Oh well, let’s get it over with. There were a few decent ones in the last batch.

Circlet Princess

What: Dimwitted schoolgirl is good at some vaguely defined virtual fighting sport, changes school based on it, finds out relevant club has been abolished. Forecast says: 5 member plot incoming.

❌ I think it’s already clear this show isn’t very ambitious, and not very well written either. A game adaptation at its laziest.

❌❌ Man, this girl is STUPID. What the hell.

❌ The rest of the cast are less stupid (which isn’t hard), but that just means they’re so forgettable they might as well not exist.

❌❌ It looks cheap, and by that I mean really really cheap. The character design is ISO standard anime and it’s mostly on model, but that’s as good as it gets. The animation just sucks. That’s a death sentence for an action/sports show with terrible characters.

Bermuda Triangle - Colorful Pastrale

What: Japanese Spongebob, as in cute mermaids. Doing things optional.

❌ To make this quick, this is almost exactly Pastel Memories, only every problem is just a little less extreme. It has fewer characters, it’s looking slightly better, there’s a tiny bit more going on, the setting is mildly more interesting. That still means it is:

❌❌ 1. A boring mess in which a handful of samey girls do nothing of much interest in a location that should be unique, but isn’t.

❌❌ 2. Conspicuously cheap. It even has the same sightline problems.

❌❌ 3. Featuring a character model sheet that is “off” even under the best circumstances. This time due to the very offputting decision to give everyone blobby triangular irises.

❌❌ Unlike Pastel Memories (which was an ad for a mobile game) this is an anime original, so it really has no excuse being this lame.

♎ I find it amusing that Pastel Palettes are providing the OP for an anime, and it’s not the one currently airing that they’re actually characters in.

Endro~!

What: Kiraralike comedy thing in a generic JRPG setting.

♎ Namori character designs, so it’s like Spyce in that it just seems like the Yuru Yuri cast cosplaying a genre. But hey, Namori character designs do look good.

❌ I’m not as done with generic JRPG settings as with generic isekai settings, but it’s still a real problem since the former is now a subset of the latter. Mildly making fun of it does not improve things much either.

✅ The tone is cutesy and pleasant. I find this much preferable to something like Mahoujin Guru Guru, which is pretty much the same thing but with abrasive, high-intensity slapstick instead.

✅ It’s backing that up with generally high-quality, agreeable pastel looks.

❌ Not being annoying is a start, but beyond that this seems very middle of the road and predictable. I don’t get much out of the genre “parody” and simply being cute is still not an unique selling point in anime.

Grimms Notes The Animation

What: Did someone say JRPG? This is a mobile one, vaguely based on fairy tales as the title implies.

✅ This universe runs on the idea that every NPC’s fate is controlled by a preset story they’re aware of. You could make a good story about that if you took it seriously. It even does that somewhat, but only to the degree that you’d expect from a throwaway sidequest in a moderately well-written JRPG.

❌ And the reason for that is that it has to make room for being a JRPG, of course. Read: It’s irritatingly mechanics- and combat-focused. Stuff like the characters changing form when in fights just seems overly complicated and adds nothing.

❌ Said combat looks competent, but not good enough to make up for detracting from what could have been an interesting setting. Merc Storia did this aspect far better (by usually not doing it at all).

❌ So it ends up being better than expected, but then that only amounts to a disappointment.

Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai / Kaguya-sama: Love Is War

What: Kaguya and Miyuki are in the student council of a prestigious school and HATE HATE HATE each other. Specifically, they hate the part where the other one won’t just finally admit their love.

✅ The joke here is that it’s operating on full intensity at all times, over the most simple matters. It’s pretty much Kaiji, only about dating - complete with hammy narrator. This is another one of those shows where I can’t say with certainty that it’s solid, but I had a blast during the first episode.

✅ Regarding Quintuplets, I made it clear that I love me some sparks in my romantic comedies. It doesn’t get much more explosive than this.

✅ The characters are comparable to Quints too: Smart scheming upstart vs. rich scheming ojou, with a simpleminded girl in the middle that ends up winning more often than not simply by not overdoing it.

✅ The visuals are just as over the top as the proceedings depicted. Occasionally a filter massacre, but mostly cool.

♎ The long-term viability of this show depend entirely on whether they can consistently come up with scenarios that work, which isn’t a given. Also, this is so intense it might become tiresome - I already felt some fatigue towards the end of the first episode. We’ll see, I guess.

Kakegurui ××

What: Some weirdos think they can crash the party at Hyakkaou with an intent to scare the daylights out of Yumeko and Midari, of all people. Let’s just say they were not as prepared as they thought.

✅ As you might have guessed by me watching the sequel, I liked Kakegurui. It has its problems, but if you’re down for some crazypants madness, this show delivers.

✅ This is one of the better episodes of it too, because it gets right into it and the game they play is dead simple. Kakegurui was never about smart moves or strong characters, so not having anything detract from our girls deriving the entirely wrong sort of pleasure from danger is a plus.

♎ Sadly, the OP is a step down (though still great) and the ED is simply an inferior, overcomplicated version of the magnificent original one. They seem to know this too, because they play the OP cut of Deal with the Devil in its entirety for a montage. The rest of the production is on par with the original though, so it’s fiiiine. Oh well.

❌ It got Netflix’d again and the subs situation is dire. Since this is one I actually like, I might have to wait for the official release.

Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai / The Magnificent Kotobuki

What: Piston-engined fighter plane pornography.

✅ This delivers where Girly Air Force failed: Close to zero exposition, the majority of the episode is just planes dogfighting with barely any talking either. And that part is executed really well. I think the plane startup sequence alone is as long as the total of Girly’s airtime.

✅ Guess what, it’s Tsutomu Mizushima, previously known for unbridled panzer (und girls) pornography, and boy can you tell. However, this cuts out a lot of GuP’s bullshit: A plane doesn’t have the cast of K-ON in it, it’s not over-the-top zany, and whatever this universe is, it can’t be as insipid as GuP’s. The classy milwank exists you guys, we found it.

✅✅ The music really helps here, sky pirates vs zeppelins just wouldn’t work without some classic swashbuckling orchestra background. Fat sound mixing on the dakka too. It’s great.

♎ Can’t really say much about the narrative because we kinda skipped that in this episode aside from the obvious, but Mizushima’s Shirobako collaborator Michiko Yokote is writing it, and that’s a good sign.

❌ Now we’re getting to the elephant in the room though: There’s no way the planes wouldn’t be CG in 2019, but the characters are CG too, and their animation is mediocre. Also, they did the KADO thing where they 2D-animated the side characters that aren’t important enough to model. This has the funny side effect that you can tell who’s going to die real soon by them looking better. It’s far from great, but probably a worthy tradeoff if the mechanical side is this extensive and also delivers.

✅ This is definitely not for everyone, since you have to have more than a casual appreciation for those magnificent girls in their flying machines. I do, though.

What: A chunk of Shibuya gets teleported to the dystopian future, local doomsday prepper gets handed a large robot because he’s special.

❌ A Goro Taniguchi joint being a poorly conceived scifi mess? Say it ain’t so! I especially dig the tryhard English jargon (mecha: “String Puppet”, monsters faction: “Revisions”, particular monster, I think?: “Civilian”, tacticool operetah: “Balancer”).

❌ Works very hard to characterize the main character, to the detriment of everyone else. A for effort, but you made an unlikeable asshole though.

❌ This is another full CG show, with the quality of the animation being curiously variable. Sometimes it’s well above average and sometimes it’s painful. There doesn’t seem to be much method to it.

✅ Tries to establish stakes by being mondo edgy and graphically murderizing some poor bystanders. It’s adorable.

❌ If you’re really jonesing for some mecha, you can watch all of this on Netflix right now. It’s not like you have any alte- wait, Egao no Daika has mecha too. Well there you go then. That’s a better show.

10 – Dragonball Xenoverse 2

What can I say? I love this game, Dragonball was a big part of my childhood, and this game lets you create your own characters and relive the story of Dragonball. I initially did not find the first Xenoverse that great, I liked it but thought it was very flawed, this game corrects some of the major gripes I had and has a huge roster of characters. I got this game the day it came out and I have been playing it ever since. I primarily play as a member of Freeza’s race, I call them Icejins. His name is Mintice and he is a precious cinnamon roll.

9 – Ocarina of Time

I know some people think its overrated, but I love Ocarina of Time. This game is what sparked my love for the Zelda series. I found it amazing, I had no internet, strategy guide or friends who played the game, so it was all a new experience and I loved it. I still have my original N64 cart and the 3DS remake, both versions are fantastic. If you love Zelda, then please give this game a try, it got great dungeons, great music and is overall fantastic. That water temple though…

8 - Kingdom Hearts 2

I loved the original Kingdom Hearts, and I LOVED the sequel. I got it shortly after it came out and played it for so long. Then the 2.5 remix came out and I enjoyed it all over again. I got the ultimate weapons, I beat some of the super bosses and I got to level 100. This is one of the best action RPGs ever and is possibly Disney’s greatest gaming masterpiece. There is so much to love about this game and im excited for the sequel.

7 - Metal Gear Rising Revengence

Metal Gear Rising is an awesome hack and slash video game that takes place in the Metal Gear universe. You play as a cyborg Ninja that can cut down buildings and throw 60-foot-tall robots. While not a relatively long game, it can be fun to sink hours into to beat the various challenges and so on. A huge focus of this game is the boss fights and the music, the music is absolutely amazing. This is a great game, its got great moments and is worth the time, be ready though, this game can get tough!

6 - Sonic 3

My first game, Sonic 3 was the first game I ever recall playing back when I was just about 4 years old. This game was great, and it came in two different parts. It is not much different from the previous sonic games, but it introduces some cool new things. Knuckles is introduced along with the shield power ups. It is in my opinion the best Sonic game…so spoilers for the sonic series extravaganza. This game is colorful, fun, its one of the longest sonic games and it can be challenging. This is a game I often revisit.

5 - Halo Reach

The best Halo game in my opinion. Halo Reach has everything that makes Halo 3 great and more. Custom characters, rewards for playing, easter eggs…and a VERY good somber story. This is a game I got attached to and have sunk many hours into. This is a game I have played full playthroughs with multiple friends. My Xbox is fried with the red ring, when I get new one, I am totally playing through this game again. Ill be honest with you, Halo 4 was a disappointment and I do not care for the direction the story has gone in the sequels, they aren’t bad games but at the same time... So, this was my last favorable Halo game, and I think it’s the best first person shooter in my collection of games, and I have a large collection.

4 - Bloodborne

Bloodborne is an utterly amazing game that is extremely action packed and difficult. I love the art style of this game, I love the way it plays. It is an aggressive game that punishes the timid, not for the feint of heart. This game was the reason I bought a Ps4. I have played through it 3 times and got all the trophies including the DLC trophies as well. This game is a masterpiece and I cannot get enough of it. If you want a more in-depth reason behind my love for this game refer to my review.

3 - Dark Souls

From Bloodborne to Dark Souls. Dark Souls is very nostalgic for me. I played it during a time of my life were my motivation was at an all time low. I just endured a month of Bronchitis, I was in between college terms and just lacked the motivation to play anything. I told myself to beat this game, and after a month I did. It resparked my love for beating games. Then years later I got the full version and I beat that one as well, I platinumed it and got everything the game had to offer. This is a great and very challenging game that I simply adore.

Will I review this game? – Already did, it got a 9/10.

2 - Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess

My favorite Zelda game, this game is amazing. It was one of my first Wii games and it is the Wii game I have played the most. I loved the characters, Midna and Zant in particular, I loved the dungeons, the combat, the story. I loved everything this game had to offer, and I will play it again once I get the Wii U version, I will play it all over again. This game is beautiful and a completely amazing experience. Give it a try if you haven’t, If you’re a Zelda fan I can almost guarantee you will love it.

1 - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

What a thrill… There could be no other, when creating this list, I knew this would take the first place. This game is my favorite of all time. Its an amazing video game and is in my opinion the best game on the Ps2. It has a great story, excellent gameplay and music and it has a certain unique quirkiness to it that makes it memorable. What other games can let you beat a boss by letting him die of old age by waiting a week? Or scare people away by wearing an alligator hat? This is Metal Gear at its best, and it is my favorite game of all time.
