To be honest with you, I do. ive thought about this since i was like 16, but i also thought the idea was slightly cringe (at the time, now i let my cringe free). i could soo totally see boss and rick getting along so well, the fact theyre both reckless and flirty, the way they both act like "im tough, i dont care about anyone" but in reality they care so much that theyre willing to sacrifice themselves for their loved ones. plus cmon, the fact they both can not only avoid authority so well, but the fact theyve both been able to get out of jail with little to no actual punishment for their crimes? oh thats best friends right there i think. plus we can imply that saints row has some sort of canon/lore connection to adult swim tv show lore anyways, since jimmy - the guy who makes Johnny tag in the clones dlc for saints row 3 - is clearly supposed to be the nerd from robot chicken (literally even featuring the same voice - which iirc is done by seth green)

additionally with the fact that a song from the tim and eric show (the sports theme) as well as the aqua teen hunger force them and a MF doom song being included on the radio sound track? i mean i know adult swim did contribute to the game, but its not entirely clear in what way the adult swim universe is tied into saints row. especially cos they drop nearly all references to it outside of the fact im pretty sure you can have johnny tag and clone aisha as companions in sr4 (not entirely sure though since its been months since i played sr4 last and you do have to unlock them).

plus the line that the president has in the "get schwifty" episode' "...I'm the goddamn president of the united fucking states"... totally sounds like something he'd say when being confronted by boss for his backstabbing...

which honestly not to be tangential but i have to talk about that now bc im sooo realizing how genius it is to make keith backstab boss.... especially because he does it right before you get put into a simulation where you have to fight Julius little? i may hark on saints row 4's writing but goddd the fan service they give to us can be soo good. It almost makes me wonder if keith david is a clone or hologram that zinyak made specifically to betray/trick boss - especially since hes the only one (other than Benjamin king, but this you could argue Ben wasnt immune to it, since it was teased in the cutscene, plus you could make the point that boss doesnt see Ben the same way they see someone like johnny whos been a long time friend and companion and even someone like matt miller, who may be a genuine threat - posessing skills boss doesnt have/understands - but boss still sees him as "lesser" or equal to them bc of who matt is outside of his keyboard) who rejects boss' advances in the ship. especially because his bitterness not only towards boss, but zinyak. He makes a mention of originally campaigning to be the president before "zinyak kicked the stool out from under him", and since hes aware earth is gone... why would he care abt being president of holograms? some of the plot points they make in sr4 are a tad annoying for the reason that they love to set up stuff like this, and the audio log collectables tell us so much, yet, they wont do anything with it unless its inherently funny.

dont get me wrong, love saints row's humor but i just wish they wouldnt sacrifice interesting plots and characters for it. And i wish they would solidify canon more.

TLDR; i do think saints row and rick and morty are connected in some way yes. the way i think the saints row universe is indeed intertwined with other adult swims shows due to saints row 3 giving us plenty of hints that the universe are connected in some way.

I’ve already talked about the three main rachas (3Racha, Danceracha, Vocalracha), but I thought it would be fun to talk a little about each friendship. *Sort of a disclaimer: Each pairing will have a little nickname/identifier attached to them. Most of them come from stays themselves, whether directly or indirectly, but some of them I kind of had to create on my own. They may not be super creative, but it is what it is, lmao

Bang Chan and Hyunjin - ‘the creators’

the nickname is based off a part of their conversation during their 2kr episode where they talk about loving to create and put something out there. (look, i said the nicknames probably wouldn’t be super creative, lol)

and they really do. chan with his music, hyunjin with his art. all the boys clearly love what they do, and are very passionate about it, but it’s so intertwined with who chan and hyunjin are, it’s beautiful to watch them grow and be so good at what they love (again, these could be a similar sentiment for most of the other boys, if not all, but im just talking about these two, lol)

hyunjin has stated that chan taught him how to be sexy, which is just so funny to me.

chan thinks hyunjin is adorable and dotes on him, and while hyunjin acts annoyed, he probably doesn’t mind it as much. you’ll see that dynamic with a lot of the pairings.

chan is co-vice president of the ‘everyone loves hyunjin’ club. felix is the other vice president. honestly, everyone in this group loves each other, but they are so vocal about their love for hyunjin that its crazy

there’s a mutual respect here, you can tell that these two thinks highly of the others skills and talents

i’m going to be honest, i love these two, i do. but there isn’t a ton to say about them? it’s not a bad thing, they clearly love each other. they just don’t have a reoccurring thing. they’re more lowkey, if that makes sense

again, not all the nicknames are going to be super creative. this one is just about the fact that there skzoo characters are a wolf and a puppy, respectively 

seungmin can’t seem to go one single day without roasting and teasing chan, mainly about his age (however, as mentioned before, chan has stated he doesn’t mind the teasing, and if he did, he would say something and it would stop)

but chan also can’t seem to go a single day without cuddling up to seungmin in some way

very recently, seungmin indicated that chan drives him nuts the most in the group, and that checks out, lmao

despite that kind of back and forth, it’s very obvious these two have a deep respect for each other. they’ve talked about knowing each others limits and while they tease and mess with each other, they’ve learned when to stop or what lines not to cross

in their 2 kids room episode, they talk about an incident where chan cried in front of seungmin and it’s kind of laughed off a bit, and thinking about it kinda makes me sad for chan, but i also love it. because it highlights how seungmin is a source of comfort for a lot of the boys, even if he doesn’t seem like it. he didn’t even do anything in that incident, he talks about just letting chan cry, but he knew that that is exactly what chan wanted, and i think he’s smart like that, knowing what members need.

Lee Know and Hyunjin - “the lovers right now”

this was another dynamic i misread when i first got into the group

because at first glance, it seems like they are more antagonistic towards each other  ...well, not that extreme, just...there’s a lot of clips of hyunjin messing with lee know and lee know threatening him with the air fryer or tissues

in reality, it becomes pretty obvious they are very close

i think, either them or one of the other members, even stated that they have deep conversations all the time

it’s like i said, lee know is soft with each of the younger members, but in different ways. the way he treats hyunjin is not the way he is with felix or seungmin or han. all the members do this, but he’s very good at knowing how to be with each member and what they can take. he’s a little meaner with hyunjin, but its clear that hyunjin can handle that

but i also think that, kind of like seungmin and lee know (there are coming up, i swear), these two are closer and softer when we don’t see it.

hyunjin is a regular victim of lee ‘the butthunter’ know. like...a lot.

i apologize for that nickname, i honestly couldn’t come up with anything for them. i thought it was cute that their nicknames rhymed so that’s the best i could do, lol

i wish i had a lot more to say about these two, but they are a lot more lowkey in the group. they don’t have a specific thing, if that makes sense. not that they aren’t close, i just think it’s more off camera than on.

i’ve seen people joke about how i.n. is the maknae of the group, but that changbin is the ‘fake maknae’ because of how he acts, and that’s kind of funny

i.n. seems to make changbin laugh a lot, i love that. and changbin has stated that he actively tries to make i.n. laugh

the members have talked about how both of them are very cute, but are also strong and determined

just from my observations, i think these two are underrated dancers in the group

i only realized recently that these two seem to be a pretty popular duo. i hadn’t noticed it at first, but i see it more now. they are also so much closer than i realized? i did their dynamics post awhile back and stated that i didn’t think they were as close as some of the other duos, but i take that back, because now i see it more and more everyday, lol.

i think that han absolutely adores seungmin. in fact, i recently saw a twitter thread of han talking about, on multiple occasions, as talked about how seungmin would be the best boyfriend/husband and why he thinks that, lmao

i feel like these two probably make each other laugh so much, it’s just seems like they do

seungmin has stated that he’s learned a lot from han and is very grateful for him, while han has stated he’s envious of how strong-minded seungmin is

an unexpected duo. it’s hard to explain, but they just seem like they wouldn’t be quite as close, at least in relation to the rest of the group, but i think they are really close? i think the three youngest are just pretty close overall, honestly

i’m not sure if i’m reading this right, but it almost seems like seungmin is a little protective over felix at times. not super often, but there have been moments. it’s cute

and of course, felix clearly adores seungmin. felix is like that with a lot of the other members, lol

TOH For The Future Thoughts

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET!!!

This new episode was nothing short of incredible!! I have so many thoughts about it so this post isn't gonna be very organised at all.

I love how Camila reacts to the things in the Demon Realm, and her freaking out at all the weird stuff is really fun to watch. But also, I enjoy how she looks out for all the other kids and is a reliable adult for them. She saw that Willow wasn't doing okay and reached out to her, letting her know that she had people to fall back on, even if she wasn't ready yet. And then, she reassures Luz that everyone makes mistakes and apologised for not supporting her in her time of need. Oh and the scene where she hugs all the talisman is soooo adorable!

Hunter's been pretty great this episode too, he's consistently been shown as antsy and worried about the dangers that lie ahead, especially considering everything that happened the previous episode. The development between him, Willow and Gus was fantastic and I'm so glad the three of them got their time to shine this episode. Hunter and Gus have a strong bro bond, and it's heartwarming to see how Gus cares for Hunter so much. When Hunter got emotional from seeing his flyer derby picture, Gus and Willow thought they did something wrong and ran away. Willow out of fear of hurting Hunter and Gus to follow Willow, while telling Hunter to stay put. Both of them care for Hunter but don't want to show their vulnerability and let Hunter care for them like they do for him.

Willow's stress and tension manifesting in the form of her vines is a great touch. Like in the Owl House where she left a trail of vines in her wake, and when the vines grew up around her feet and finally when she smothered a whole room with her vegetation. The vines snaking around her legs and victims gives a suffocating feeling, like Willow is restraining herself from showing any weakness, and also showing how her feelings are overwhelming her.

Hunter's flapjack magic activating when his friends were in danger was so cool, he was zipping around everywhere! Flapjack still lives on in him and that's amazing to see. Also... Huntlow Real. (like omg... the protective hug, hunter carrying willow, the blushing and hand touch aaaaaa. like cos willow's been saving his ass all the time and now it's his turn!)

Ok now to talk about Hexside. Unfortunately after all the adults got puppetified, the school turned to chaos lord of the flies style where Boscha somehow becomes reigning President with the help of "Micky". Mattholomule is a surprisingly effective leader to Gus and everyone else's surprise. Also im still not over how Mattholomule is actually Matt Tholomule. So... Steve and Matt Tholomule huh. OKAY. Gus's smoothly animated slow head turn was HILARIOUS tho. It provided a lot of lighthearted comic relief. "MANtholomule" kandfjknsdk. But I digress. Hexside becoming a chaotic mess under Boscha and Mickey's leadership is honestly pretty realistic. Also I'm slightly disappointed but not surprised that Boscha is still as mean and egotistical as ever. Like COME ON after everything that happened she's still gonna be a major b and run the school like a knockoff regina George?

The real culprit behind this though, is "Mickey" or should I say... Kikimora. When I saw her being Boscha's mouthpiece and pompously dictating what people should do... it felt weirdly familiar but I couldn't really put a finger on who it was until right before the reveal. The way Kikimora manipulated Boscha into taking leadership while she was the real one pulling the strings from the side reeked of insecure, power hungry crony. So glad she got her ass beat. Willow's confrontation with Boscha was such a treat to watch, but it was also painful. Seeing Willow stand up for herself but also let her anger and vulnerability show was so compelling. Boscha was honestly selfish and cold for brushing off Willow. I don't understand why people ship them especially considering Boscha BULLIED Willow and still hasn't apologised. (again I digress but as someone who was bullied I absolutely despise bully x victim dynamics. not cool.) Then in the detention pit, where boscha met amity again, what she did and said made me dislike her more, but also sympathise with her a bit.

When Boscha and Amity met again, Boscha lashed out saying Amity abandoned her friend group, hung out with Luz and basically left her behind. Like yeah duh she dropped you for a reason!? Boscha is a toxic and spiteful person. But I can also see from her point of view. Until Luz showed up, Amity was the top dog, one of the mean girls and part of the clique. To have someone like that just leave the group for good would hurt. And Boscha even got on her knees and begged Amity to come back to her. She wanted things to go back to normal and wanted her friend back, but what Boscha didn't realise was that she was the one who needed to change. I'm glad she changed for the better in the end, she just wants her friends back. (She's still a meanie though)

Alright, now it's time to get into the important stuff. The Collector. (and belos) It was jarring to feel on edge when seeing a happy colourful pastel world, knowing the sinister intentions behind it all. Watching the Collector play with people like dolls creeped me out, especially since they were once... living people. And it just reinforces the fact that despite it all, The Collector is just a kid. A superpowered, immortal kid who doesn't really understand that what he's doing is really truly hurting people. They just want to play. And I can't blame them, being isolated and alone for so long. He calls King his best friend, which I think is really sweet. But unfortunately King is too afraid to reciprocate. What I find really nice about the Collector is that he's willing to compromise for King, the one he cares about. Even when King isn't willing to give them Francois, he doesn't throw a fit, just asks for King to let Francois watch over him because he doesn't want to be alone.

The book that they ask King to read to them is very intriguing, because it's essentially a history book about the collector race. And apparently, they're known as powerful, godlike immortal beings who preserve planets and life forms. But the moment they encounter any resistance, they destroy the planet. Wipe everything clean. The Collector has scribbled this part out, saying that "the others are mean". This means the Collector has encountered others of his race, and actually is one of the nicer ones??? Since he disapproves of the killing and destruction. However, despite this, he is completely okay with hurting the inhabitants of the boiling isles. Yikes.

I'm glad Eda and Lilith are okay though! I'm loving their new looks. Eda seems to have accepted Luz staying in the human realm, which is sad... it's clear she wants Luz to stay but she can't. King, Eda and Lilith are hatching a plan to take down the Collector for good, and you know what this means... MISUNDERSTANDING TIME.

As we all know Belos is back in action, trying to take back control or whatever. I especially enjoy that he's literally falling apart into a goopy mess and is being haunted by the ghosts of Caleb and the other golden guards. He seems to have backup bodies... sealed in a tomb of maroon goop stuff. Buttt that body in the box was incomplete so yeah. I feel like this reinforces the theory that Belos was possessing the bodies of some of the old golden guards, because he said that he "needed a new body". How else has he been living for this long? It also explains the blonde hair. Him making his way to the Archives and meeting Odalia was so funny. She wanted to be more useful outside of being a nanny for the Collector, and now that she kinda got her chance, she got tossed aside once again. But now that means instead of possessing Odalia, Belos possessed Raine. Oh No!!!

Then the usual happens, using the new body he sneaks to the Collector's room and manipulates them into distrusting King! The Collector is way too gullible for their own good like this is the second time he's being bamboozled by Belos COME ON. The way they can just spy on King whenever is so chilling because they just pulled on their hood and boom, they found King. This meant that they could have spied on King whenever, but didn't because they trusted him. Aww... But now Belos has successfully manipulated Collector AGAIN, who believes that King is trying to kill him. But actually King just wants to talk things through. King seeing himself in the Collector, his loneliness and being of a special race, is sad but also comforting to know that he can relate to someone like the collector. I guess we'll see what happens in the final episode of TOH.

And last but not least... LUZ'S PALISMAN!!! Ohhhh man this one has kept the entire fandom on edge forever. Her palisman seems really powerful, given that even when it wasn't fully formed, it blasted the ground with a super laser! When it formed into a ball I was like "is that it?" but of course not lol. I love how before the palisman fullly formed the gang was guessing, "is it a bat? snake? dragon? otter?" The writers and animators know the fandom so well haha... And turns out... IT'S ALL OF THEM!!! According to Luz, her palisman is a snake shifter! I thought it was a chimera but this is cool too, given how Luz has been associated with snakes a lot, it would make sense that a snake would be the main animal. I love how her palisman, Stringbean (cutest name ever!) can shapeshifter because it represents how Luz can't be put into a box. She's creative, adaptable and fun, and Stringbean represents all those qualities.

All in all, fantastic episode, but im worried how the last special will go down. Hold on tight TOH fandom...

Interview with Audrey Roget

Audrey Roget has 10 fics at Gossamer, with some different ones at AO3, fanfiction.net, and her website. You might know her from her very good fics or as part of Musea, a collective that all wrote fic and posted X-Files fic recs. I’ve recced some of my favorites of her stories here before, including Three Times Dana Scully Didn’t Go to San Diego for Christmas and The Shirt. Big thanks to Audrey for doing this interview.

Does it surprise you that people are still interested in reading your X-Files fanfics and others that were posted during the original run of the show (1993-2002)? A little, yes. Not so much by folks who were around in those days. I sometimes go hunting for beloved stories from the early years, both those I read and loved, and those I never got around to. I am always delighted to hear that later generations of fans have stumbled across my stuff, especially since I haven’t posted anything new in a number of years. It’s fantastic that both years-long fans and new ones are out there continuing to rec fic from all eras, and to maintain archives for fans yet-to-be born. What do you think of when you think about your X-Files fandom experience? What did you take away from it? What did you take away from your experience with X-Files fic or with the fandom in general? It may sound corny, but the main thing I think of, and the thing that has ultimately been most valuable and lasting, has been the friendships. The feeling of having found a tribe – not just of TXF fans, but of other people who could be as enthusiastically engaged as I was (if not more so) with fictional stories and characters – was mind-blowing. Since I was a kid, I had often mulled over the books/movies/TV I loved and speculated internally about what happened off the page or off-screen, or created new stories for characters in my head. But, except for an elementary school phase where I and my two BFFs regularly played Charlie’s Angels, I hadn’t engaged in that kind of gleeful immersion in a fictional world with others until TXF fandom. My involvement in fandom followed pretty quickly from getting hooked on the show, so for me, it’s all one big ball of experiences. Even as my interest in/involvement in fandom has waxed and waned over the years, I’ve been lucky to remain friends with wonderful people who I originally connected with as fellow fans.

Social media didn't really exist during the show's original run. How were you most involved with the X-Files online (atxc, message board, email mailing list, etc.)? What got you involved with X-Files fanfic?

My initial entrée to the fandom was through fanfiction. I didn’t get interested in the show until mid-season 5. Around the same time, I read an article in a zine called Might (co-founded by Dave Eggers) about this thing called fanfiction that people would write and publish online. At first I thought it was satire or a joke – the fic cited involved Wilma Flintstone and a polished sabre tooth, as I recall – but then realized this was an actual thing. So I figured that a show then at the peak of pop culture must have fanfiction, and I went looking. Early on, I scrolled atxc on a daily basis and downloaded stories. But I didn’t engage in discussions about the show on Usenet, since I only knew how to access it with my Earthlink email client, and I didn’t want to post using my real name.

Later, I set up a pseud address with Yahoo and subscribed to a couple of email fanfic/discussion lists, and stayed subscribed to those for years. There was also a period in there somewhere – of maybe only a year or so, when I think about it – when I’d often nerd out into the wee hours with other fans via IM chat groups. That was around the time the small writers’ collective Musea was founded, and we were active for several years after the show’s initial run. In the early aughts, I followed many authors to LiveJournal and eventually set up my own account and stayed involved in fandom that way, until it mostly dispersed as well. What was it that got you hooked on the X-Files as a show? In a word: Chemistry. I had casually watched a couple of episodes during the first four seasons, but I’m not a huge sci-fi/horror fan at heart, and the story lines didn’t immediately grab me. But I happened to tune into The Red and the Black in 1998, and BOOM. For the first time, the intense layers of emotion and attraction between Mulder and Scully really struck me – and then of course, upon further viewing, I realized it was unmissable, an essential element in the fabric of the show. As a wise woman once said, a switch had been flicked. Mulder and Scully’s magnetism was like nothing I’d ever seen, and though I eventually came to appreciate the storytelling, humor, production values, and other components that made the series so successful, watching those characters interact has always been what kept me coming back. Were you involved with any fandoms after the X-Files? If so, what was it like compared to X-Files? I was part of a list-serv discussion group for The West Wing for a while, which was a fun melding of character and plot analysis with political discussion. Later, I got into the House, MD fandom, again mostly as a fanfic reader/writer. I was finding that other fandoms, unlike TXF, were more dispersed, the networks of people structured more loosely, if at all. There were fanfic and discussion communities on LiveJournal, and fanfiction.net was the other main hub for posting and reading, but if there was anything centralized like Gossamer, Ephemeral, or the Haven, I never found it. Within all those fan communities, as in TXF, there were partisans for various characters and pairings, and flame wars erupted over plot developments that outraged this faction or that. One main difference was that those other shows had larger, ensemble casts and more varied subplots. So on one hand, there was more opportunity to explore back stories and multiple perspectives. In House MD in particular, there were several entrenched rival shipper camps, which were about equally grounded in canon, rather than TXF’s central ship. I was less into TWW fic, but my impression was that readers were less militant about their pairing preferences than TXF or House fans. Who are some of your favorite fictional characters? Why?

I was deeply fascinated by Greg House for several years. (And the love-hate chemistry between him and Lisa Cuddy was a strong draw for me.) House MD came early in a wave of TV shows centered on anti-heroes, and Hugh Laurie brought amazing complexity and thoughtfulness to the character.

Philip and Elizabeth Jennings (The Americans) are a lethal pair of antiheroes. The inherent moral conflict of a sympathetic narrative from their POVs, and the global political conflict they embody was TV catnip for me. The internal struggles at the hearts of those characters were so exquisitely written and performed, they completely fascinate me.

The West Wing felt so much like a show created specifically for me. I’m especially fond of story arcs and scenes that centered on CJ Cregg, Charlie Young, and Josh Lyman. Though I loved Martin Sheen’s human portrayal of Jed Bartlet, the fact that he was the President always made him a little untouchable in my mind. But CJ, Charlie, and Josh were basically hard-working functionaries who were ambitious and idealistic and funny and flawed, and they spoke to me. What is your relationship like now to X-Files fandom? Do you ever still watch The X-Files or think about Mulder and Scully? Do you ever still read X-Files fic? Fic in another fandom?

I do continue to think about Mulder and Scully and watch episodes somewhat often. I’ll sometimes run a favorite episode as background when I want something comforting on. I read TXF fic pretty regularly, which can inspire me to go back and watch a particular episode or story arc I haven’t thought about in years. Just recently, I started listening to The X-Files Diaries podcast (@XFDPodcast, @admiralty-xfd), and that’s a fun dive into the characters, and how other fans react to and interpret episodes.

Every once in a while, a TV show or movie – and more particularly, the characters – will grab my attention and make me curious about how fanfic writers have interpreted the original material. Random example, I saw Singin’ in the Rain for the first time in a theatre a couple of years ago, and the chemistry of the three leads sent me to AO3 as soon as I got home. I also loved the first season of Mercy Street and found some well-done stories in that fandom. I usually peruse the Yuletide gifts every year and have been amazed by the sheer variety, creativity and cheekiness of the output. There are a bunch of other shows I’ve followed faithfully, and sought out fanfic – Broadchurch, The Killing, Agents of SHIELD, Elementary, The Good Wife. Although I’ve found some well-written stuff in those fandoms, I’ve rarely gotten the same charge from them as reading TXF fic. Do you have any favorite X-Files fanfic stories or authors?

syntax6 (@syntax6) – Universal Invariants/Laws of Motion. I’d also shout out to syn’s Hunter fics, too – well worth reading even for those who have never seen or particularly loved the show itself.

JET – I re-read Small Lives Awake every year around Thanksgiving time. Other annual holiday re-reads: Revely’s The Dreaming Sea and Jordan’s Through the Fire (both set at Halloween).

Amal Nahurriyeh’s Casey universe – the rare post-col fic that felt hopeful, made extra intriguing by a kick-ass original character. [Lilydale note: the series starts with Machines of Freedom and has lots of additional fics and snippets.]

Prufrock’s Love – Finding Rokovoko was genuinely terrifying and tender.

melforbes (@melforbes) – Seaglass Blue is a recent favorite, lyrical and bittersweet.

These are just a few (apologies to those that didn’t come to mind immediately). Fortunately for readers, there’s an astonishing number of authors who have written in TXF fandom whom you can depend on for a good yarn, insightful character study, and/or ingenious “fixes” where 1013 went awry.

What is your favorite of your own fics, X-Files and/or otherwise?

Probably the two set in my own (former) backyard of Southern California: Enivrez-vous and Ravenous. I’d first read the Baudelaire poem that was the source of the former’s title back in university days, so I was tickled to be able to use a few lines as an epigraph. Do you think you'll ever write another X-Files story? Or dust off and post an oldie that for whatever reason never made it online? It’s not out of the realm possibility. I’d meant for “Three Times Dana Scully Didn’t Go to San Diego for Christmas” to be followed up with “And One Time She Did.” In fact, the idea for that never-finished story was what inspired “Three Times” in the first place. I have a couple of scenes sketched out and – unusually for me – even know exactly how to end it. Every year, November rolls around, and I think I should finish and post it…maybe in 2021?

Where do you get ideas for stories? Sometimes it’s from my environment. “Enivrez-vous” and “Ravenous” describe places that I’m fond of, that made me want to place Mulder and Scully there. “What Not to Wear” has that element too – I set it in Memphis as a tribute to a great trip there with a sister Musean. But WNTW was also inspired by a kink challenge in a years-ago LiveJournal thread, so sometimes ideas come from fandom discussions or even other fanfics. In the House MD fandom, a fic by another writer made me want to continue the story, and the author kindly allowed an authorized sequel. What's the story behind your pen name? I wanted my pseudonym to sound like it could be a real person’s name – or at least, maybe like a romance writer’s pen name – rather than an online handle. I also wanted to use a slightly obscure fictional character, to amuse anyone in the know. I had long had a bit of an obsession with Whit Stillman’s 1990s film trilogy, which started with Metropolitan; the 3rd installment, Last Days of Disco, came out the same year I started down the TXF rabbit hole: 1998. The central heroine of Metropolitan – who is mentioned in or makes a cameo in the other two – is Audrey Rouget, a lover of Austen and, eventually, a book editor. I altered the spelling of the last name as a nod to every writer’s companion, Roget’s Thesaurus. Do your friends and family know about your fic and, if so, what have been their reactions? I have a few close friends – from outside TXF fandom – who know that I’ve written fanfic. I don’t know if they know my pseud; if they do, or if they’ve ready any of the fic, they haven’t said so to me. They are fannish sorts themselves, but not really TXF fans. A smattering of other friends and family members know or could intuit that I’ve been a fangrl on some level for years. My boss, whom I’ve known for about 3 years, recently mentioned off-handedly that she was really obsessed with TXF “back in the day,” and I am DYING to know if she got involved in fandom, but don’t think I’ll ever work up the courage to ask.

Is there a place online (tumblr, twitter, AO3, etc.) where people can find you and/or your stories now? Most of the X-Files stuff continues to be generously and steadfastly archived by Forte at The Basement Office. The House MD stories and some TXF things are at fanfiction.net; same for AO3. If ever post anything new, it will probably go to TBO and AO3. I really ought to get it all together in one place, one of these days…

#2: In the epilepsy diaries by another wonderful writer within this fandom. Has Timmy go through the real life and tragically tough life that people who live with epilepsy go through everyday! And I adores that story no matter how heartbreaking and tough it was for me to get through.

#3: THE CEREBRAL PALSY DIARIES is a story that puts Armie and Timmy both in the situations that I deal with having cerebral palsy myself PERSONALLY on an everyday basis! So yes I do have some brain damage which does not get worse as I age so your little "insane" comment makes me laugh so damn hard. Im not part of the Naruto fandom but I still have the urge to read your fics from that fandom because I love your writing so much. I’m doing all right tbh. I mean, my fascist president incited an insurrection in my nation’s Capitol, and half the country is either trying to shift blame to Antifa or justifying TERRORISM. I ain’t even gonna get into the covid death toll. So, uh, that’s fun. 

But. My health is improving finally after like five straight months of being sick, and I am super thankful for it. I kicked down my writer’s block with a wrecking ball, and I’m really enjoying disappearing into the fandom trash can to avoid my world being on fire. 😅

I always love it when people jump into new ships because of my writing. It doesn’t happen very often (which is totally understandable), but it’s deeply flattering and exciting when I know my readers try new things because they trust me as a storyteller.

That said, *most* of my Naruto fic is canonverse, which would make understanding it challenging if you’re not familiar with the manga or anime.

The Distant Star series is the only one on this list that I think a reader unfamiliar with Naruto canon may not be able to follow. But it’s also the best of this bunch, and is set in a feudal world that’s quite different from canonverse, so I wanted to include it anyway.
