personal worst nightmare: skz release european tickets (for a tour we Know is going to happen bc they’ve announced it) and i don’t buy them bc im waiting for my fantasy taemin european show (for a tour that hasn’t been announced wherein the only glimmer of hope is ‘and more’ in the counties list) and he ends up not doing europe and i end up with a repeat of this summer (holding out for shinee which never happens and missing out on skz entirely). Do you see this. what do i do.

I lost my mind over taemin and cried hahaha but I was also happy to see the boyz again and see the new sub unit omg omg I can’t believe how sexy their song is 😭😭😭 (I also thought of you when I saw jacob and his cute fluffy bucket hat haha) AND itzyyyy I love them so so much I know I HAVE to see them whenever they come on tour again I also enjoyed some of the opening pre-show groups too (I’m so happy I got to see verivery again 🥹🥹🥹 it’s been so long <3333) seeing ateez and skz again tho was also my highlight!! I finally got to see pirate king which made me so happy bc I’ve been an atiny with my mom since debut so it meant a lot! AND I MANIFESTED SUPER BOWL FOR SKZ!! it was all I asked for (my mom and some friends are my witnesses lololol) this kcon I just wanted to see super bowl live and I got it hehehehe 🙈🙈 but I’m so glad I got to see the new title tracks for skz and ateez (s-class and bouncy)

overall I had a lot of fun even tho my mom and I got hit with rain since day 3 concert was in the middle of a storm lololol (eric and chris both told us thank you for coming in the storm and to be safe 🥹) I really had fun this kcon I was sad it was over but I met some nice ppl and had good seats all 3 days down on the first floor it was so cool to be so close on all days 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I’ll def post some pictures soon once I’ve gone through my videos

favorite concept for them I believe is a mix between the apocalyptic stuff they’ve done like side effects and scars (and now social path) and I also love the chill and/or cozy vibes they’ve had in things like fnf, the view, blueprint and tmt and things like that. I like when they do mvs like that a lot

i finally got home on thursday night. i feel the same was about chicago tho. it was so so so pretty but so tiring. but i kinda wanna move there now bc i enjoyed it and it’s so different to what im used to here. my two extra days were super stressful but the weather was so nice and windy.

it sucks so much that we couldn’t meet but fr skz was total insanity and im just glad to have survived it </3 lolla skz will live in my head rent free forever. skz being real was not in 2k24 bingo card and i also need tickets for their tour or i’ll cry. but the chicago trip was sooooo expensive for me bc i have no control and went to a kpop store and target and to museums and the aquarium 🙃 and my support system is the worst bc i was only going to buy the ate version and my bf was like “get i.n and changbin” and that’s how i ended up with i.n, changbin, han and felix (i have lino on the way too) and a maxed out credit card (: money comes back ig. and the worst part was literally that ateez performed in chicago this weekend and i didn’t even know like </333 i could’ve met teo sang my beloved if i had stayed for a few more days (delulu bc with what money?). my bf is all for ateez @ lolla ‘25 so we’ll see 🤞🏻

and the chappell crowd was insanely full (literally the biggest one in lolla history wtf) but not as crazy as skz tbh. i love her sm tho, she’s such a superstar. i’m so glad to have been able to see her too <3

akwjjs i come to your blog after watching kingdom everytime and i love reading what you have to say because you're smart. as a fan of the boyz, i just want to see them with a garden concept, pretty flowers in their hair and yellow/pink/orange outfits while singing bloom bloom. also i got curious about the gates of hell(? it might be something different but you mentioned it on the skz review) thing taemin did. if you could point me out to whatever that was i'd be very very happy cause i really want to check it out lmao

i did mention the gates of hell! it’s a sculpture by rodin based off of dante’s inferno. his most famous sculptures, the kiss and the thinker, actually originated from the gates of hell, as he worked on and off on it for almost 40 years. taemin uses it specifically in the music video for want, at 3:02! i’ve actually gone off a little bit about want before here when someone asked me about the purposeful awkwardness of taemin’s choreography, but now i get a chance to talk about the visuals!!

as a sculpture the gates of hell is an incredible piece of art. there’s something like 180 figures and it’s SIX metres tall. it’s a physically impressive work and taemin is correct in (really only mildly) exaggerating its scale when it appears out of the darkness at the end of the video. taemin has spent this whole song singing about how he can tempt you to anything and then the literal gates of hell materialize??? that by itself is enough, but there’s a few more fun facts to consider:

rodin specfically thought about the quote “abandon every hope, who enter here” from the inferno when conceptualizing the experience of looking at his sculpture.

although not true to any one scene in the inferno, the sculpture features references to many of the characters that dante encounters on his journey. one noteable set is that of francesca and paolo, two lovers he meets in the second circle (lust), who are trapped in an eternal whirlwind, chasing after each other but out of control, helpless to the forces of the winds. this is based off a true story of one of dante’s contemporaries, francesca de rimini, who had an affair with her husband’s younger brother for a decade.

taemin’s christian name is francesco.

AND OHMYGOD JENO, the man is rlly WOW, ngl he kinda looks intimidating with his sharp features and smooth dance moves but his eye smiles make my heart mELT. i remember during the encore stage, the show was about to end and the boys were saying goodbye to us, jeno's face was showed on screen, he was tryna eat the confetti LMAO. renjun,, i will never shutup abt this but renjun is confirmed to be a FAIRY!! the prettiest boy :") #RENJUNFAIRYAGENDA he has such sharp yet delicate features and his aura is just so warm n comforting like he just captivates u n lures u in, and when he sings, like u can feel the emotion, hes so talented. all throughout the show, hyuck was just GLOWING (lives up to his name, fullsun uwu) . he's soso pretty n he's my bias so i literally was just in awe when i saw him, i was speechless :') he was rlly entertaining to watch n he was also so attentive to the crowd esp when he saw some ppl that got hurt, he kept telling us to move back a little. OMG HOW COULD I FORGET NANA, jaemin was soo sweet n charming and the way his eyes lit up whenever he looks at the crowd gosh my heart was abt to burst he rlly adores czennies :") jskfvkds hes also super tall lmao hyuck was tryna lift his shirt up tho and of course chenle, ngl but all throughout the concert, my eyes just keep coming back to chenle. out of all the dreamies, he caught my eye the most. like,, THE POWER THIS MAN HOLDS IS CRAZY?? im going to kcon la next month!! unfortunately skz isnt part of lineup and i wont be able to go friday so ill only be able to see the saturday+sunday conventions and concerts, but i hope itll be fun nonetheless. my uncle is some kind of manager in the entertainment industry (idk too much abt it but he usually gets me signed albums every year so im not complaining!) and he usually helps out at kcon every year, so he always has at least 2-3 free tickets.. whenever he visits so im usually able to head to kcon if my schedule fits!! 

i think for other life updates on my part theres not tm.. i ended up going on a diet the past month because ive been really wanting to lose weight for a while now but ive never been able to do it in a healthy way because ive had an ed for as long as i could remember.. (growing up with asian beauty standards is pretty tough unfortunately 😞) i used to be 130lbs at 5’1” so i always considered myself overweight because of my height, but i recently lost 10lbs and im hoping i can reach my goal of 110 within the next month asw 🤞

i really like reading your opinions about all of this! it’s a realllly interesting insight into how all this works and there are a lot of components that i have not consciously considered until you brought it up! i don’t work in the entertainment field (though i hope to one day) and only really watch kpop for what it is - entertainment. there’s very little pages on social media that talk about and explore the details and purpose of the work itself.

like the taemin conversation (move, want, his dancing overall)? my mind 🤯 it made me respect him even MORE as an artist and i didn’t think it was entirely possible. but here we are lol

but ya, there hasn’t been a lot of engaging conversation re the kingdom stages… whenever i look at the youtube comments it’s always (what i’m assuming) really young fans who only care for their biases and flood it with like omg oppa is the best. and that’s not at all helpful. especially because of your comment on skz and the lack of growth. this show could really be used to talk about kpop stages and the aspects that go into making a really fucking great performance. seriously thank you for your thoughts because it’s fun reading them!

kpop is very interesting as an industry because a lot of it is antithetical to deep thematic analysis by its nature as a capitalistic product, but you can do deep aesthetic analysis. i stand on my soapbox and yell about spectacle as meaningful art because the people who design these aesthetics care very deeply about their jobs, and the choices made are deliberate ones. part of the reason there’s little to no designers talking about kpop is because we just don’t have time. we’re categorically overworked, underpaid, and under credited. and we’re a small group in the first place. the job is only a century old! i didnt even want to be a designer when i started theatre school, i was planning on being a stage manager. designers also usually aren’t really the type to put themselves out there on the internet to talk about design in their free time. IF you have free time at all. if we were in the before times i wouldnt be talking about this at all because id be way too tired. its only because i have all this free time and im in school in a different field (im getting a masters in contemporary art), and because i miss performance so much that im writing these at all. i have to fill the void somehow. writing these reviews is a good critical exercise for me because its keeping my observation skills sharp. i do agree with you, i think kingdom could have been a really good platform to talk more about all the aspects that go into making strong performances, but the fandom culture of kpop prevents any kind of meaningful criticism in the public arena. obviously these conversations are happening outside the eye of the camera, and im sure kingdom has prompted these groups/companies to think more seriously about each element of performance, we’re just unlikely to ever see those conversations.

teasing u guys is my favorite past time, me n hongjoong have that in common 😌 sf9 really was a dark horse throughout the whole of kingdom i feel, i think that the rankings really never reflected how well they did or what they showed bc of the whole popularity thing bUT im proud of them and what they were able to achieve thru the show nonetheless!!! i agree i got a lot of exo wolf and txt cat n dog vibes from skz's song!!! we have the same top 3 pls i love that for us <33 tbh i was actually rooting for the boyz to win from day 1 and im disappointed they didn't get the win but stray kids did super well and worked hard for the win too so !!! im just glad it's OVER!! taeyang my BELOVED i'll never shut up about him pls he showed that he IS the main character of dance in kpop up there with taemin and kai 😌

as for the final performances i loved them all, altho i have to admit i was cringing a bit when skz pulled out the fake wolves that seemed a little too campy for my liking 😭 ateez was my fave, i enjoyed the vibe of the stage and how they constructed it then btob and sf9 were my other faves!!! btob made me cry as usual <//3 and sf9 was just so beautiful ?? lord i love me some good dancing and sf9 really put so much good dancing into that stage i ADORED IT. i love tbz's stage but tbh i was just super confused when the prerecorded parts came on?? i thought it was supposed to be 100% live so i wasn't sure what was going on there T-T and for ikon ! it felt v v ikon and i adored it but i just enjoyed the others a bit more <33
