When I was thinking about how to draw Luther holding Ethan, I was going through their scenes and I was sure there was a scene where they hugged?? Fandom overwriting brain

The choice of each animal came from a mix of ideas; from general symbolism, to specific symbols (even dream symbolism) and actual behavioral and personality traits of the animals (and I now know about so many birds and lizards than I ever did before). And yes, it was much more fun than it probably should've been.

I think the IMF/CIA/general spy protocol calls for people who have smaller daemons as they can be less conspicuous, harder to target, and easier to pick up and carry, and they especially favor daemons that can fly.

That said, Benji's is by far the biggest of the bunch but I considered he started as a tech so he wouldn't necessarily have a "spy appropriate" daemon type at the outset. The Asian Small Clawed otter is however the smallest species of otter, but it's also the most social, so that worked out great.

I used symbolism for falcons in general for Ethan's kestrel, but kestrels are part of the falco genus so I say it counts.

Same with Jane's gecko, I considered lizard symbolism as a whole on top of geckos specifically.

Ethan's kestrel is so on the nose it's ridiculous. Nevermind the symbolism, they fight birds bigger than themselves, love to do stunts like flying to insane heights then freefalling, they calculate risks while hunting - he's got a kestrel.

Luther's probably seems like the oddest match but all the symbolism matches up too well and I love the idea of this flashy little bird on his shoulder.

I followed Pullman's general naming conventions in that they're more diverse and sometimes obscure.

However most of them they absolutely have nicknames because of course they do.

I do realize 'Kari' is probably a better nickname than 'Kathi' but I misspelled it the first time around and now the idea of an otter called Kathi amuses me.

I think the daemons' personalities are pretty one-to-one matches of their people, except maybe Brandt's Pru is a bit less pessimistic than he is, haha.

The M:I wiki lists Julia's last name as both 'Meade' and 'Meade-Hunt' so I went with the latter just cause it still has Ethan's last name in there.
