Reposting @sheila_derm_md People literally tell me I’m crazy for moving to Tucson, Arizona (“you look like an LA or Miami person”) but when my fiancé and I visited we just knew. We both instantly felt those vibes plus it is a great place to be for a dermatologic oncology surgeon and astrophysicist ☺️. It reminds me of Austin, TX ~10 years ago before the congestion (hook ‘em). I’m totally someone who goes with their intuition..plus nothing is forever—we plan to move back to Spain at some point later in life too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s typically not easy moving to place where you don’t know any anyone but I find it exciting. I got this in the mail and thought it was one of the DOPEST covers the New Yorker has ever done, and now the image is trending & women surgeon’s everywhere are recreating the cover. I actually went down a #ILookLikeASurgeon and #NYerORCoverChallenge rabbit hole and started crying with happiness at my dining room table about 5 minutes ago. According to the AAMC Physician Specialty Handbook, in 2010 only 15 percent of physicians practicing general surgery were women (4,041) compared to 84.6 percent of men (22,255). Susan Pitt, an endocrine surgeon at the University of Wisconsin said it best: “Women surgeons are saying to other women surgeons, ‘I see you,’ and to the world, ‘See us.’ ” If you swipe right you can see my rad friends from college. First up is Katie Russell and her team at The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia. Katie is a Fellow in pediatric general thoracic and fetal surgery. Standing around her are Erin Brown, Jesse Vrecenak, Uchenna Kennedy and Sieta Rao.
