“MOOOO shall not pass!” (sorry) I walked another section of the Severn Way this weekend (Upton-upon-Severn to the M50 road bridge). This bovine blocked my path...so I made the most of the situation and started drawing. Standing under the M50 was a little strange...it felt rather ‘Ballardian’ being on my own with massive towers of concrete around me, with only a herd of cattle for company! Edmonton! I’m so glad to call you my home 💙 I’m resting up after my short but sweet 2019 holiday market season - flipping through my new self published book, and remembering the year. And what a year it was! From many incredible illustration gigs (and equally incredible clients), to drawing all around Edmonton (making new friends while growing a little baby in my belly), and now wrapping up 2019 with positive vibes after markets! 😊 I’m a feeling grateful for the city, the community, and to my family and friends 💙 . This drawing is a sad but memorable one. I randomly stumbled upon the demolition of our beloved Wild Earth Cafe on 99th street, and I had to draw it. I’m grateful to have captured 2019 in my own way, with my sketchbook 💙 . Today is my first day of my summer On-Location-YEG sketchbook project. Location: @citadeltheatreyeg 🌿🌵🌴 . This was a private sketch session (public/group sessions starting in May). I felt a bit rusty and it shows in the drawing, but I’m happy to just start sketching again! I haven’t used my lamy fountain pin since winter 2018 so it exploded on me right away (surprise!), but after a wash, it’s back to its reliable self. I seriously love that pen ! 👩🏻❤️🖋 . My on-location sketchbook project has been selected by Edmonton Arts Council @yegarts for an Artist Project Grant! 😊 Which means that from May-July 2019, I will be filling a sketchbook (or two) of Edmonton landmarks and neighborhoods! While doing so, I’ll be running a 6-8 week public drop-in sketchclub (meeting weekly). YES - If you are an Edmonton commercial artist, emerging illustrator, or graphic artist, you are welcome to join me to sketch! 🎨❤️ The BEST PART? At the end of this project, I will be publishing it all into a limited edition art book! AND the back of the book will be a reserved section to showcase drawings by emerging artists who join me at my sketchclub (those chosen will receive a publishing honorarium + book)! 💯🎉 . This next week, I will be planning out the drawing locations. If you have suggestions, or if want to host a location, please send me an email!
