Japanese Twitter is speculating that Lage 9 is actually an undercover spy infiltrating Stomach Inc, pretending to be a desperate schmuck. It’s mostly to do with his wording once he gets to the human world. He doesn’t mention anything by name—just vague terms that can either refer to the dark snacks (“I thought I’d finally get closer”) and Stomach Inc (“headquarters”), but can also refer to evidence of the company’s wrongdoings and law enforcement instead.

If that’s the case, maybe he has a plan to save the humans he captures or something.

But even if that is indeed the case, I don’t think Hanto would believe such a thing.

Plus, there is the fact that dissenters of the company… disappear.

Okay now I'm curious about your TMA/Gravity Falls crossover. Is it like the cast of TMA get a cartoony summer adventure or is it like the cast of Gravity Falls have to deal with The Horrors? Or is it something else?

See this fic enchants me because it’s sort of both. One of the Rules of the fic is that the characters absolutely must maintain the conventions of their genre. So it’s the TMA universe and all of its grimdark cosmic horror grappling with the metaphysically displaced Mystery Twins, who operate on cartoon logic.

A lot can be said about companies' attitudes towards fanart vs fanfiction but I'm willing to bet the reason why copyright lawsuits seem to often overlook one and not the other is because art is a good way to attach new audience (=profit) and fanfic isn't. You are significantly more likely to see a cool fanart and go check out the source material because of it than to see, and read, through a whole fanfic (which requires much more time, effort, and frankly, attention span) and check out the source material after. How often do you see "I don't even go there but I like this" type of feedback on fanfic vs fanart? Huge copyright holders turn a blind eye to fanart more because they benefit from it.
