Appreciation post for Takeru Shiba and Keiichiro Kun

I’m so sorry that I took a long time to finish these, but I swear they’ll be up before school starts - and I may have room to do more appreciation posts!

Since you requested two characters, I’ll first do Keiichiro (simply because he’s very fresh in my memory) before making a separate post for the great Takeru :)

5. Maybe he contributes to climate change thanks to his temper

If I don’t go for the stoic, then I go for his opposite - so I’ve seen a lot of screaming male characters in my day thanks to shonen, but none of them made me laugh as hard as Keiichiro did. Granted, at first I was a bit annoyed because it seemed to be his only character trait, but as time went on, it became...oddly endearing? The screaming, the special effects, how it’s so jarring to see him calm and gentleman-like to certain characters, the fact that they even made his anger a plot point for particular episodes (either comedic (episode 36) or a nice reminder that as passionate as he is, it can interfere with his work (episode 6, perhaps the Patoren2gou special itself)

4. “I’m angry at myself”/”Thanks muchly, Keii-chan” ADKJGADSKJDAS

Similarly for a point I made on Shotarou, I’m only listing this relationship fourth because this is a Keiichiro appreciation post - and as much as these two are integral to each other’s growth and exposure, I can crack down on that in the upcoming LuPato appreciation post but for now -

Don’t you just love how they’re total opposites, regardless of first impressions and later revelations, and that it pretty much chimes in with their concepts as Rangers - and that their interactions winded up showing their better side (Keiichiro) or the darker thoughts they hated themselves for (Kairi) - that they ended up caring for each other in both of their personas, whether they wanted to admit it or not - the character development - that they play off each other so well - and that the reveal of the Lupins’ identities just deepened the care Keiichiro had for this guy he only knew for a year - and that this is linked to other things -

Just - you know you got a relationship right if it had me crying for five days straight - and anyone who followed me since the LuPato days will know episode 49 killed me forever and ever

3. I have a deep desire to know pre-PTSD Keiichiro

Canon has never confirmed if Keiichiro is diagnosed as such (and I don’t know how mental illness is regarded in Japan), but the way Keiichiro acted in episode 29 after being blasted with a memory wipe, it solidified the headcanon for me

Also it peeves me that we only got tastes of flashbacks for the Patos. What was Keiichiro like after being inspired? Was he popular in school? What kind of upbringing did he have? Was he always a bit more lax, or maybe that’s the stupidly adorable “OK” pose talking? Why does he make that target practice uniform look so good??

2. Keiichiro Fever

Keiichiro Fever is a condition identified in February 2019 where you think about Keiichiro Asaka from LuPato every single day (for any time period between nine months and forever), and even after recovery, you will experience relapses. You can never be cured. I am living proof.

But all kidding aside, when we got to delve into the kind of person Keiichiro was beyond the screaming, black-and-white lunatic...I was hooked. He has manners; maybe even to the old-fashioned extent for his age. He’s kind and considerate and means well, and it seems he acts according to how it’ll best tailor someone’s needs, whether he knows it or not (i.e. Sakuya may say he thrives with positive enforcement, but really he needs a no-nonsense sort of person helping him along, as hubris is a common downfall - and Keiichiro is there to do that, even if he does go a bit too far sometimes). It’s only because he deals with aliens on a daily basis that we don’t get to see how competent he is in his job for combat, like in episode 30. He’s in the police force for a reason - he can respect his colleagues and listen to them; he will protect the innocent with all his might; he has the analytical skills and dedication to make things happen; he will find a solution, even if it seems impossible...

Keiichiro is just very amazing. And he’s good looking, especially when he smiles

1. Character development, people!

If you looked at it from the episode guide, this change was small. Episode 8 - Keiichiro was ready to arrest the bistro trio if suspicions were proven that they were the phantom thieves. Episodes 40 and beyond - what a bona fide mess. But watching the development firsthand? I actually never expected that Keiichiro wouldn’t arrest Kairi and co. for their involvement. Especially since the LuPato team ups always had a spoonful of Keiichiro refusing to cooperate because you can’t mix justice with illegal activity. Yet going through the episodes and specials again, I realized that Keiichiro was always developing towards this conclusion. His care for people couldn’t be unbalanced by what side of the law they were on (I’d even say he makes the “grey side of morality” exception for them, if that makes sense). He saw the human sides to Lupin Red - which didn’t cause some great morality upturning for him, but just had him understand that people are people - flawed and all. He knows his rival like the back of his hand and they performed some amazing heists together. But Keiichiro was so determined to deny this was happening (him? Trusting a thief? As if) it was almost enough to trick the audience into thinking this came out of the blue. Not to mention that whenever we start having Patos thinking that the heists aren’t just some petty thievery, we forget that for the next five episodes. Even so, we ended up getting the crying, sobbing mess Keiichiro was in the finale, and he ultimately couldn’t bring himself to pull that trigger

Covert Operations - Chapter 44

SYNOPSIS:  Jamie finally brings their conversation to an end with a little seduction. Will Claire succumb?

  CHAPTER 44 (S)

 “Why should I trust you now? Hmmm? Give me one good reason.” Jamie didn’t answer her question; he merely gave her the most penetrating look … a look without words that spoke to Claire’s heart.

Every single thing that Jamie Fraser had said and done in the past paled into insignificance with that one penetrating look he cast towards Claire.  The look without words that spoke to her heart was a glimmer of hope for her because she now understood him a little better. Jamie was not a man to show his emotions especially in Section One as to do so would be fraught with danger especially for their penultimate operative, their cold and calculating killing machine. For James Fraser to show any romantic attachment to his material would be a sign of weakness in his superiors’ eyes. Relationships between operatives were frowned upon and a relationship between their Level 5 operative and his partner could prove to be problematic if Jamie let his feelings dictate how he carried out his orders. Missions could fail if he let his emotions override his responsibility.  However, this is the very thing that he had done.  He’d manipulated the mission profile for Claire but was it because he wanted to only protect her since Claire was of a different ilk than most operatives, or was it because he too really did love her and wanted her to be safe at all costs?  It was a fine line that Jamie walked but up until now he had been totally successful and there were no repercussions from the Section One leaders. Although they may suspect there was something more between the two of them, they as yet had no concrete proof about James Fraser’s deeper bond with Claire Beauchamp.

He was a complicated and enigmatic man but Claire had managed to see a very different side of Jamie that he showed to no one else.   Although he was a passionate lover, she always had some doubt in the back of her mind if he was merely stringing her along and if his feelings for her were as real as hers for him. Was he holding back emotionally for fear of rejection or was he detached because life in Section was no place for emotion? You needed to have a cold demeanour to not be affected by the job you were required to do in Section One.  Emotions made you vulnerable and at risk of making the wrong decision.  Jamie could ill afford to be someone who showed his emotions for he had spent years perfecting his cold persona and now to have a woman break down his barriers was something he had avoided in the past.

James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser was a Section One man through and through but Claire now realised that being his partner had in fact changed him and made him not only question his role within the Section but had crashed through some of the defenses that lay dormant within his personality. That look he had just given her scorched her soul and she immediately knew the exact meaning Jamie was portraying in his look. To Claire it acknowledged that he might feel the same way.

“Ye love me Sassenach.”

Those words that spoke to her feelings were fundamentally about a question of trust.  Did she really trust Jamie and could she trust him? This revelation about her by this man struck a deep chord within her heart. In that exact split moment that eyes met eyes Claire’s insecurity about trust issues with Jamie dissipated.  To her trust was having the confidence and heart in someone that they wouldn't let you down when you needed them. Trust was faith, faith was reliance, reliance was belief, belief was having confidence in someone, and to be confident in someone brings you back to trust.  Trust was everything; it put your heart in a safe place for it was the unwavering belief that the other person will fulfil his promises. It relied on the integrity, strength, ability and surety, of a person.  It was confidence and hope and knowing that you could rely on that special someone and that they could rely on you in return.  Claire blinked as if she had reached enlightenment with that look from Jamie. There was only one answer she could truthfully give and unequivocally her answer was yes. At that moment in time she knew that if you truly loved someone you are not confused by this emotion and Claire finally realised that Jamie had given her the sign that she needed to indeed follow her heart.

She could be headstrong but her partner in crime was well aware that she was conflicted by the role forced upon her by Section One.  She was a compassionate and caring person and this was such a dichotomy to what was expected of their operatives.  Their mantra was that you got the job done, asked no questions and obeyed orders to the letter.  Failure to conform usually lead to cancellation for Section was a ruthless mistress and even their operatives were expendable if they bucked the system.   However, Claire Beauchamp was different and the fact that Jamie always found a way to protect her was his way of showing her how he felt about her.

They were always on an emotional rollercoaster ride and keeping her feelings in check for him was difficult, for Claire wore her heart on her sleeve for this man when out of the sight of Section‘s prying eyes. Their life was complex enough but emotionally it was more so and until they reached some common ground things would not progress.  Nevertheless, Claire knew she could wait for Jamie to let down his guard and become vulnerable too.  When he did so then she would truly know that he felt the same as she did about him. Every little baby step was a mammoth step forward for a man who had buried his feelings so deep that he felt he was incapable of love.  But Claire was chipping away little by little and if the look Jamie had given her was an indication to how much he knew about her feelings, then it only made sense that he would eventually show his own feelings to her.  

She could wait for however long it took.

That unspoken look pierced Claire’s heart knowing that Jamie had admitted that he was so in tune with her feelings for him and she was gobsmacked with his knowledge of her love for him. It blew her mind as she knew it was the start of barriers being broken down between them like they had done on Lamma Island all those months ago.  She couldn’t look away from his mesmerizing blue eyes as they caressed her face so tenderly.  His eyes radiated warmth and desire which seared through Claire undressing her with their intensity. Gripped by the hunger each saw in the other, they let their eyes do the talking and the touching. Jamie's smouldering gaze swept Claire from head to toe then rested on her luminous blue orbs. She couldn’t look away and was like a rabbit caught in headlights. Slowly capturing her stare James Fraser caressed her face then lowered his eyes to her perfect lips. She watched spellbound, unable to sever his look.

Instinctively her tongue moistened her bottom lip in nervous response to what Jamie was making her feel. It only ever took one such look to tip her off kilter even after they had argued. His scorching gaze kissed her repeatedly but she wanted to feel the tangible touch of his lips rather than the superficial touch of eye sex.  Despite their words earlier Claire wanted Jamie with every fibre of her being. She wanted to be kissed into obliteration and made love to until she cried out his name in surrender but she also wanted Jamie to capitulate to her as well in a mutual joining of souls.  

Captivated by the woman who sat opposite him, Jamie’s gaze immediately returned to capture her beautiful eyes once more. A kaleidoscope of amazing images filled his mind

... of Claire’s mouth pressed against his

... of her in the throes of passion within his arms

... then of the ultimate giving of herself to him in complete abandon.

Jamie knew Claire felt the same connection too for a flame of desire was reciprocated in her eyes along with other telltale signs of her hunger and need.  Their conversation was but a memory now as was the interruption from their leader Dougal Mackenzie. All that mattered was the here and now. He had come to be with her and that was his sole purpose for changing the mission profile.  He cared about his Sassenach more than he could admit out loud but he knew that since she’d been recruited to Section One and assigned to him to train that Claire Beauchamp would have an impact on his life.  He never anticipated that she would be the one who would open the Pandora’s Box that was his heart that had been well and truly sealed from any fulfilling romantic attachment.

The woman in front of him would cause a saint to drink.  Claire Beauchamp took his breath away and everything about her exuded sexiness and he wanted to drink his fill. He wanted to adore her and bring her to the heights of ecstasy until she surrendered in the throes of passion in his arms. Little knowing of her partner’s thoughts Claire sighed closing her eyes and recollecting the erotic images of Jamie’s mouth fused to hers as well. A firestorm of longing ignited her body in a need to rekindle the passion that had emanated between them as soon as the door to his room had closed banishing everyone to irrelevance except the two of them.

Time stood still as Claire waited for what Jamie would do next. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Reluctantly instead of making a move toward her, he turned away from Claire for a moment and knelt before the stereo in the room. Even this move puzzled her but she still watched in awe as his trousers became taut exposing the strong muscular thighs beneath the material as he knelt selecting a CD to play. Soon rhythmic, seductive music echoed evocatively in the room. Twiddling with her hair in nervousness, Claire sat in the chair watching Jamie’s every move closely wondering what he had in mind next. He looked up just as her tongue nervously moistened her bottom lip. “W-what?” Claire stammered, her voice a little husky, “Are you doing Jamie?” Standing, he said nothing, but slowly prowled toward her never taking his eyes from his Sassenach. Her body gave a little shiver in anticipation at the look Jamie was giving her and Claire couldn’t look away even if she wanted to.  This man, this Jamie Fraser fascinated her and she couldn’t help but tease him with her next words. “Trying to seduce me Fraser?” She added somewhat tongue in cheek as she finally realised what his motives might be. But was it wise to poke the beast? She thought knowing that Jamie had the upper hand at the moment. In return, Jamie merely replied with his blank stare and predatory actions. He continued his slow approach and made his way across the room to where Claire was sitting extending a hand to her in invitation as he neared. His intense gaze looked deeply into her beautiful, blue eyes communicating his intentions. In slow motion she rose from her chair unable to resist his offer.  Standing, Claire nervously went to him narrowing the space between them while Jamie’s eyes followed her every step towards him. Biting her lip Claire looked into his eyes with a perplexed look on her face as she declared, “I’ve never been able to figure you out James Fraser.” “Today is different Beauchamp,” he replied as if these words would convince her of that notion. Powerless to fight the magnetic pull of his actions and words Claire answered back, “I thought so too... but ...” Jamie ignored her response as he clasped Claire’s left wrist; slowly sliding his hand to take her palm, he then gently brushed his lips to her fingertips halting any other words she may have wanted to say. Anointing her palm with open mouthed kisses and little biting nips, he scraped her skin with his teeth then soothed the sting with his tongue. Claire shivered with the erotic sensation as Jamie captured her gaze in his and locked eyes with her. She could not look away. Mesmerized by his actions, Claire’s glazed eyes stared back at him while the sensation of rippling feelings suddenly filled her body. When next he spoke, Jamie’s voice was soft and seductive. “It’s vera simple ye ken. I never thought I would ever care for another woman again … and if I did ...”

While speaking, he lightly ran his fingertips over the back of Claire’s knuckles caressing her skin; she closed her eyes for his gentle touch made her hand tremble. Jamie’s low, lulling voice was music to her ears and she was affected by the sensuousness of it all washing over her like a cascading waterfall. A soft sound of pleasure bubbled in the back of her throat as she leaned into Jamie’s touch. Her nipples tightened and Claire trembled with desire. Even though he was only caressing her hands it was as if Jamie was touching her intimately ... as he had on Lamma Island. Her body was reacting to this sensuous foreplay as she seemed to lose all conscious thought about the conversation they had just had.  All she could do was surrender to the way James Fraser was seducing her and to the way her body was melting with delicious feelings that had once again risen to the surface.  Her skin felt alive wherever Jamie’s touch anointed her flesh and she was powerless to do anything but just feel.

Nevertheless, Claire ached to have him really touch her as only he knew how. The timbre of Jamie’s voice hypnotised her into a trance like state. His words spun around in her head. “… I thought it would have to be someone from outside of Section, but I was wrong mon nighean donn. No one from the outside can understand who we are.” Leaning into Claire’s space Jamie slowly began caressing and stroking her hands within his and the sensation caused butterflies to flutter uncontrollably in her stomach. His fingers were so erotic, so light of touch but overpowering in the intensity of the feelings they evoked. Claire closed her eyes and let her body succumb to the feelings radiating to every fibre of her being.  Pure unadulterated desire consumed her as Jamie circled her wrists then ran his fingertips down her palms exacerbating her intense feelings. He intentionally scraped his nails across the fleshy mound of her palm and across her heart line until he interlocked his fingers with hers. Opening her eyes Claire held her partner’s gaze but looked down to see their hands joined like two lovers intertwined in a passionate embrace. She was swept away with longing and shuddered unable to control the emotions surfacing for this enigma of a man. It had been several weeks since they had been on Lamma Island and the feelings that Jamie’s actions were having on her senses at this moment were overwhelming. Would tonight bring all those wonderful memories to the surface again? Unquestionably in her mind Claire knew that Jamie’s intensified actions would lead to so much more ... for both of them. Jamie gave her no respite from his sensual attack. He entwined her hand within his own in a sensuous dance of erotic foreplay that attacked her senses. Claire was lost; being such a tactile person, she basked in the attention he was lavishing on her. His loving exploration continued relentlessly as Jamie captured her delicate wrist and lazily traced the blood filled veins stroking his fingertips along the ridges. Completely caught up in the seduction, Claire allowed him to retain her hands as he caressed them while she was melting inside with a plethora of wonderful feelings. “We fight all the time just to stay alive. This mission is dangerous Sassenach ... Madame Cheung and the Rising Dragons’ triad are both ruthless. We don’t know what lies ahead with this mission, so let’s not fight what’s between us.” They stared deeply into one another’s eyes as he spoke. Claire then followed Jamie’s mouth as she watched his lips form the next words. “I missed ye sa much mo ghràidh.”

She quickly looked up. Her pupils had dilated even more and Claire held Jamie’s gaze for a heartbeat. Subsequently closing her eyes she savoured his words ... words that lodged deep in her heart and to the very core of her being as he continued. 

“Let’s take what we can ... like we did on Lamma Island.” Jamie pulled Claire closer to his hard, warm body and within a few seconds she was in his arms. He sensuously slipped his hand up underneath the top of her gown leisurely exploring her bare skin with fingers with a will of their own.  It was so velvety soft and warm to the touch beneath his hands that they trembled at the renewed contact against her body.

Ever so slowly they began to dance. As their bodies swayed as one, Jamie lightly traced his fingers down the line of Claire’s spine sending rapturous shivers up and down her nerve endings. His wonderful demonstrative touch sent a rush of heat through her body causing her to take a sharp intake of breath. The audible rasp echoed in the air in conjunction with the sound of the seductive music as they moved together. Wrapped in the circle of his arms like this, Claire was temptation personified and he was sorely tempted. Spellbound and burning for Jamie’s touch, she could only watch as he moved his lips near to hers. Close but not quite touching her lips, Jamie teased her while playing a game of cat and mouse. They began dancing in slow circles while their eyes locked with such an intense gaze that she felt that fireworks had just exploded before her eyes.  To Claire the world could have collapsed around her and she wouldn’t have noticed. Her world at that moment revolved around Jamie but his slow seduction was only exacerbating her anticipation. Closing her eyes, she felt the gentle pads of his fingertips teasingly stroke along her thigh where her leg was exposed by the slit in her dress. Swaying against him, she parted her lips and opened her dreamy filled eyes in invitation. Jamie’s fingers erotically traced down Claire’s thigh once again then returned his hands to her back drawing her closer. Watching her pupils dilate to a darker hue, his mouth nearly … but not quite … touched hers. He tormented her until she moaned in entreaty.  It was torturous. Gentle fingers caressed her eyebrow, trailing to her cheeks, then her lips until Claire wondered if she could stand one moment more of Jamie’s actions. She was ready to rip his clothes off then and there and sliding her hands around the back of his neck, she pulled his face down to hers.  However, Jamie only caressed the corners of her mouth with the tip of his tongue.

“No!” Claire cried out.  

Leaning in closer, she toyed with him in an effort to capture his lips for the connection she so desired.  But James Fraser evaded her forays causing Claire to moan much louder in anguish wanting more ... so much more than he was prepared to give. She was unravelling. Jamie flirted and teased her but he wouldn’t deepen the caress while Claire was burning up with a need for this man’s touch rapidly escalating. If James Fraser didn’t kiss her soon Claire thought she would expire. Groaning, she parted her lips in open invitation for his touch and taste, then when his fingertips rested against her throat Claire’s heart leapt in her chest as Jamie finally leaned in to kiss her.

She touched his lips.

Hot flesh met soft flesh. 

All coherent thoughts fled Claire’s mind. Overcome with hunger, she incoherently frustratingly murmured keening noises against his lips. The games Jamie Fraser had been playing had driven her wild with want and need.  Serve him right, she thought as she rubbed her body sinuously against him. Threading her fingers through his hair, Claire held Jamie’s mouth to hers, deepening their kiss with a need that was ravenous. His lips tasted salty, his mouth soft, yet hard at the same time. Warmth spread through her body and Claire wanted Jamie so desperately she felt as though she would explode.

He reciprocated.

Pulling his Sassenach a little closer, Jamie inhaled the sweet scent of her as his own lips sought dominance. Sucking in a breath, he felt Claire’s lithesome body flush against his own tempt him. He grew harder as his body again gave away evidence to his inner feelings.  He kissed her cheek ... her mouth ... then kissing the column of Claire’s neck, Jamie lathed the telltale throbbing pulse with his tongue. He then worked his way back to her mouth for more punishing kisses that had Claire breathless. Aligning her head to the side, Jamie captured his Sassenach’s mouth deepening their kiss … tightening his embrace and kissing her with a hunger that shocked him. He didn’t realise how much he needed her.

A satisfied groan rumbled deep in his chest when Claire replied in kind.

“Chirrut!” Baze called as he entered their shared quarters at the Temple. Sunlight streamed through the window, warmth pooling on the floor. Chirrut had his back to Baze, his hands laid on the sill. He didn’t answer.

“You were supposed to help me take some of the novices out to the city,” Baze grumbled. “Didn’t you say you’d meet me after midday in the courtyard? Really could have used your help controlling that lot.”

Chirrut still didn’t say anything.

“One of them kept trying to persuade a merchant to give them a pipe for free, in exchange for a blessing from the Force,” Baze continued. “Reminded me of you, actually.”

Chirrut turned his face slightly, but remained silent.

“And three of them tried to run off—just run off like that! No subtlety, just outright rebellion! I had to threaten the rest of them to stay put while I ran after those three and dragged them back by their collars. Only to find one of the older ones trying to sneak into a cantina.”

Chirrut made a low humming sound.

“What is wrong with you?” said Baze, irritated. “First you stand me up, and now you won’t even talk.”

Chirrut turned around. He was smiling. A real idiot dopey smile. The kind of idiot smile that instantly sent Baze on high alert. His cheeks looked a bit warped, his lips pursed.

“Alright. What are you up to?”

Chirrut took Baze’s hand and squeezed it tenderly. He traced a fingertip on Baze’s palm. Featherlight letters. A message.

BAZE MALBUS, Chirrut wrote with his gossamer touch, I LOVE YOU.

He took Baze’s chin, stroked his thumb over his bottom lip and prised it downward. And when Baze’s mouth opened, Chirrut drew him closer and kissed Baze, and at the same time, transferring a warm mouthful of tarine tea into Baze’s mouth. Tea that Chirrut had been holding in his cheeks all this while. Some of the tea slopped over Baze’s chin.

Baze spluttered. “Chirrut! I told you not to do that ever again!”

Chirrut only shouted with laughter, even as Baze grabbed him and ruffled his shorn head mercilessly, poked him in the ribs and all the parts where he was ticklish, even as they wrestled each other to the ground, laughing like the ill-disciplined children the Temple Elders used to accuse them of being.

“I know how to make it up to you,” Chirrut said at last.

He disentangled himself from Baze, went to the kitchen and when he came back, he held one of the sweet limes on his open palm, peeled already, as an offering. It was from Baze’s new crop of lime trees, the ones not contaminated by tarine.

“To kill the taste.”

“Hah! You know me well.” Baze was still rather disgruntled, but he reached out to take the lime.

Before he could, though, Chirrut flicked his hand, sending the lime spinning upwards, before catching it between his teeth.

“Eh, not so fast,” said Chirrut, his words slurred as he spoke around the shape of the fruit, “You think you can take this from me without squashing it? No hands allowed ah!”

Baze smiled this time, his grin big and his teeth showing. “Let’s see.”

And he kissed Chirrut, mouth open, their tongues scrabbling for the fruit, a tiny sugary sun sparkling between their shared laughter.

( This scenario was created as a “what if” situation - and I implore everyone who takes the time to read this to think: “if my character were a quest giver, what kind of quest would they give? what would be required of the player? what if they were the boss of a dungeon or raid?” This is exactly that what if scenario, and it’s gonna be a long one. Now, no one has to get as in depth as I am, I just need a project to keep my mind fresh with ideas. )

Questline Start!

The quest is first picked up in the Dravanian Hinterlands at (X: 30, Y: 38), in front of the Great Gubal Library. The quest is level 60 and the requirements include: The completion of The Great Gubal Library (Hard) dungeon, and the completion of the quest “The Far Edge of Fate”. 

An error such as this will appear if the requirements are not met:

Quest Giver Name: Concerned Elezen

Quest Name: There and Back Again

Quest Reward: Gil (13000), Exp (*), Item (Page 63)

Quest Description: The concerned Elezen stares at you with discontent - perhaps he needs something of you?

Upon talking and accepting the quest by the Concerned Elezen, you receive the following text conversation:

Concerned Elezen: “Friend! Hello - I couldn’t help but notice that you have entered and exited this library several times...yes?”

Player Character offers the nod emote before the conversation continues.

Concerned Elezen: “Fantastic! Because, well you see…”

Once the Concerned Elezen trails off, a cutscene starts. He shakes his head and apologizes.

Concerned Elezen: “Forgive me, my friend, let me start here - my name is Caromont. My partner insisted that I remain out here whilst he look for a certain tome that may have been locked in the library for a while.”

Caromont: “It has been more than a few bells since he’s left and I am incredibly worried for his safety. Usually I would put the utmost faith in him to complete whatever task he has set in mind but…”

Caromont: “But he was acting fairly strange before he had left. Perhaps I could explain that bit later; surely you’ll help me, yes? You have navigated the library before, and I could trust you to do so again above all else.”

The cutscene then ends, after Caromont walks to the entrance of the Great Gubal Library. His character model has him surrounded by the Quest Instanced Duty glow.

Quest Instanced Duty!

To begin the Personalized Instanced Duty you must not be in an existing party and talk to Caromont. If you are above level 60, you will be synched back to 60 for the remainder of the Duty.

Once you talk to Caromont, and accept the terms of the Duty, a short cutscene will play. It portrays both the Warrior of Light/Player Character and Caromont walking through the halls of the Great Gubal Library:

Caromont: “There seems to be a great deal more voidsent here than I can recall being told about. Please keep your guard up, friend.”

Caromont pulls out an astrologian’s arm, preparing for a coming battle.

The duty begins, there is 30 minutes on the timer to complete said duty.

The Player begins the duty at the blue dot on the map, and finishes at the red dot. The black boxes indicate areas of the map that are blocked off to the player for this instance.

As per the map, the Player shall begin the instance in the room before the “Hall of Magicks” and must make their way through the “Convocation House” and the “Natural History Room.” The “Aetherology End” is closed off. They must then make their way through the “Astrology and Astromancy Camera” in the “School of Fantastics” area - where they will end the duty in the “Forbidden Tome” section of the library. (The song that plays is Great Gubal Library (Hard) theme, “Bibliophobia”.)

Throughout the instance, the Player will be accompanied by Caromont the Forgotten Star, whom will act as the Player’s healer while adding some attacks of his own to the enemies faced. There are voidsent of all types to be found across the map in small groups of three or four at a time; this is including the sentient tomes and inkwells from the dungeon itself. Occasionally, Caromont may have a simple floating speech bubble with some text - should the player be close enough to him to see it:

Upon healing the Player: “Be well, my friend!”

Upon healing himself: “I am growing tired…”

Upon attacking a foe: “Do not challenge me!”

Upon death: “I did not...foresee this...”

Once the Player and Caromont reach the “Forbidden Tome” room, a short cutscene will play and there they will find an Elderly Elezen kneeling upon the floor. Before you get too close he warns the Player of an oncoming voidsent: “Do not approach! Quickly now, flee!” A much larger voidsent appears and begins attacking the Elderly Elezen. Caromont will begin healing him - it is the Player’s mission to kill the voidsent as quickly as possible. The Elderly Elezen is rendered unable to move or take actions and starts with low health. The Player may choose to ignore the voidsent in favour of healing the Elderly Elezen. Upon reaching full health, the Elderly Elezen will banish the voidsent back to the void.

Occasionally, if close enough to the characters, small text bubbles can be seen.

Elderly Elezen, upon being attacked for the first time: “Curse this damned being...I cannot move from this spot.”

Elderly Elezen, upon dying: “I have...failed muchly...”

Elderly Elezen, upon being fully healed and banishing the voidsent: “Begone from whenst you came, demon!”

Caromont, upon healing the Player: “Your fate shall be changed!”

Caromont, upon attacking: “Stars guide my hand!”

Caromont, upon receiving damage: “Hells take you, fiend!”

Caromont, upon dying: “’Tis...too much, my friend, I am sorry...”

The voidsent, named Anulap, has a few abilities he may use against the Elderly Elezen or the Player Character:

Rend Life: Will cut the Elderly Elezen’s health by 25% of what it is currently at. The ability cannot be used on the Player Character. The ability can be interrupted, stunned, and silenced. It takes approximately six seconds to cast.

Gash: Will place a heavy bleeding debuff on the Elderly Elezen, Caromont, or the Player Character at random. The debuff can be cleansed. This ability cannot be interrupted, stunned, or silenced. It is an instant cast ability.

Piercing Screech: An AoE that affects a 2-yalm radius around Anulap - Caromont will attempt to avoid being hit by it. Anyone, including the player character, caught in the radius will be damaged and affected by the Infirmity debuff. The Elderly Elezen will always be caught in the radius. This ability can be stunned or interrupted, however it is a two second cast. The debuff can be cleansed.

Will Crush: An AoE that targets the Player Character only - it is stationary and does not follow the character if they move and affects a rectangle 2-yalms wide and the length of however far away the Player Character is from Anulap. Anyone caught in the AoE will suffer massive damage and the Heavy debuff. The debuff cannot be cleansed. The damage from the ability will reduce the Elderly Elezen’s health to 1 no matter what his current health is, if he is caught in the ability. This ability cannot be stunned, interrupted, or silence. It takes three seconds to cast.

The Anulap’s auto-attacks have a 10% chance of inflicting the Poison debuff, which can be cleansed.

The Personalized Instanced Duty is deemed a success if: The Player kills the voidsent at the end of the instance, or the Elderly Elezen is healed to full health either by Caromont or the Player.

The Personalized Instanced Duty is deemed failed if: The Player dies; Caromont dies; the Elderly Elezen dies; or the timer runs out of time.

Upon successful completion of the Duty, whether by defeating the voidsent or healing the Elderly Elezen, a cutscene plays. (Cue "Turn the Page” to play)

Caromont rushes to the other Elezen’s side, a look of worry and sadness overtaking his features.

Caromont: “Maxie! I...I was so worried, you hadn’t come out...I guess my fears were warranted.”

Caromont looks to the Player, now smiling.

Caromont: “I thank you again, my friend...I do not know what I would have done should something ill had befallen him.”

The Elezen called ‘Maxie’ shrugs off the ordeal, paying no mind to the Player.

Maximiloix: “Caromont, I am quite fine - I thank you and appreciate your concern but--”

Caromont: “But nothing, Maxie! You were on the brink of death and you know it. It’d serve you well to thank the (man/woman) that helped me through here.”

‘Maxie’ turns to the Player, obviously in poor taste. He was none too happy about his plotted rescue.

Maximiloix: “Thank you.”

Caromont: “Good. Now let us away before you find yourself more injured...or that horrid creature comes back.”

Caromont turns to the Player once more.

Caromont: “Meet me outside, friend, your deeds are not to be unrewarded.”

As the two leave, Maximiloix gives the Player a disgusted expression and grunt of dissatisfaction - you notice the brightness of his silver eye turn dull.

The cutscene ends there, where the Player will find themselves outside of the Great Gubal Library once more. Caromont is located where the quest was first picked up, to then turn in the now completed quest objectives. And the player receives their reward. Beside him now is Maximiloix.

If Maximiloix is talked to before the quest is completed:

“What do you want? I have got not words for you, Caromont, however, does.”

At turn in:

Caromont: “I thank you again, friend. I hope this issue has not caused you too much trouble...this must be menial compared to the tasks you have been entrusted before.”

If Caromont is talked to after the quest is completed:

“I do hope you’ll come to see me as a friend as well - for if you ever have need of me, I am here. It is the least I can do for what you have done for me.”

If Maximiloix is talked to after the quest is completed:

“You have received your ‘thank you’, you will get no more from me.”

In the Journal tab:

“Upon passing by the Great Gubal Library once again, you have found a concerned Elezen by the name of Caromont. He introduces himself in good spirits, though his plight is nothing of the sort. He relays to you that his partner has been in the library for more than a few bells, though was assured that he would return shortly. Caromont puts the task of finding his partner on your shoulders, guiding you - once more - into the Great Gubal Library.

Just as you had left it before, the library was dark and only lit by the few candles that hung from its walls. Caromont warns you that there are a large amount of voidsent in the area - more so than usual - and prepares for battle. You do the same.

As you travel the library, you notice more books have been thrown from their proper places on the shelves; they stack high in the hallways, blocking some corridors you had gone down before. The further you approached the end, the more voidsent that appeared...until finally, you found yourself at the end. An elderly Elezen was knelt to the floor and before you could heed his warning to flee, a powerful voidsent begins to attack the man. You and Caromont work together to bring down the voidsent and bring the Elezen up to his feet.

Maximiloix was his name, and he was none too pleased of your arrival - only showing appreciation after being told to do so. Caromont thanks you profusely for the safety of his partner, and asks that you meet him outside for your just reward. As you leave, you notice what little light was left in the elderly Elezen’s eyes drain from him - his expression turned dark.”

I'm tempted to say you gave him a soul - but the whole point of his character is his reclamation of his humanity in sacrificing himself to save Mina (for the greater good)... I just didn't grasp that or value it when I first read "Dracula". Seeing Renfield so exquisitely characterized is a gift on my dash. It has built empathy in me for him and taught me to look at the discourse of mental illness in literature in a more nuanced way. Thank you.

ooc;; i don’t even know what to say to this?? maybe it’s foolish of me, but i actually almost cried reading this. renfield is fictional, of course, but it means to world to me that you think i have given him the voice that i’ve always felt he deserves. the fact that you recognize his sacrifice and feel for him, even in his wrongdoing, means to me that i am accomplishing the most important job i have on this blog: to keep renfield from becoming a stock character, or a trope. he means more than that to me, and clearly to you as well, and that’s so rewarding to hear! 

it means so much as well to know that i have been able to positively impact the way you engage with literary discussions of the mentally ill and give you a sense of empathy for a complex character who is too often disregarded and made grotesque for shock value. the fact that he is not real is irrelevant in this moment because he (and what i try to do for him) has made the way you see the text and its treatment of the mentally ill then that is real and so, so worth all the work i put into the blog.

i do have to say that there are simply some characterization points i cannot take credit for, and that a lot of what inspires me to write him as i do comes from the novel “the book of renfield: a gospel of dracula.” if you are looking to engage further with the character or with the dialogue i try to allude to on mental illness in dracula, then i cannot recommend this book strongly enough! and if you ever do read it, come back into my inbox sometime and tell me what you thought of that as well!

Okay so I'm at a very healthy weight and food is varied and healthy and sufficient however unless I have been on a break from the combined pill (which only happened twice as I switched over to the mini pill a couple of months ago) I haven't had a period since before I was ill... Sigh..  Signs are Kind of a Big Deal (for little ol’ me)

Due to the big deal which signs ever are to me, I have to untangle this tangled ball of many threads,.. yarns and tendrils and wires and ropes... and debris and treasures therein...  and caught things,...  

Of a good nature, and...  

Ones of a bad nature, too...  

As well..  Well to be well, I have to free what’s caught,...  Rather than expect I can just immediately release by willing and wanting and declaring it...  

When it’s tangled up in a taut center of an evergrown tumbleweed of since beginning of all time...  sometimes at least...  

I know that my signs are mine and not only that but even if someone had the time and energy and focus, and even could I actually clearly relay all the connections to anyone..  

Well, it would not feel that big punch, that beating drum of excitement, that ring of poignancy and power, and the excitement that shines tremoring in the air...  

No I imagine it would feel like, you know, good for you, but if I did care about signs, my dear,...  It would be my own signs that I would care about, mostly I suppose....  

The energy makes my own signs and guidance sparkle and burst and clamor and flutter and rain in down like confetti in the celebration of my crazy chaotic party of a life...  

And the energy,...  The energy is the difference and does energy transfer to others?  If it’s not their own guidance, their own signs?  Their own urgencies, goals and their own heart calls?  

This I am doubting and yet I need to feel my growing tendrils of a seedling are mattering to the world as they evolve and climb tiny fragment by invisible fragment, every fragmented centimeter so giant and powerful and shuddering with force to this seedling of me...  I need to feel that protected and small and invisible lives like mine matter...  

And that is why I write it here,...  Instead of somewhere even more public and pointless...  With even less people or attention span or emotional energy to spare for me and my random, knot on this log sort of what is the point of YOU, Opal, sort of existence...

I am thought I was planning on something..  Like the point of this post..  

Was, is, that I must give a forewarning..  At each title of each post like this..   The following post is mostly and or muchly consisted upon the shuddering backbones of signs that are mine alone...  

It can’t stand though it’s the backbone of my fetal tadpole existence in my tiny mudpool...  

It is not something you’d care to see...  But I must write it here as I intensely grow myself like a fetal inner child, or something...  

Deep in the medium of my soul and creative potential field and intuitive meadow flowers...  My caterpillar self,...  

My tadpole, not even a frog in a little bog, ..  Polliwog..  Or is it a hog?  Pig?  Or...  

Perhaps a...  Dog?  What is it with the animals ending in G?  

They keep flailing themselves on the windshield or the radar screen of my signs of possibility, lately, just, maybe, or so it seems.  

Yes, so..  I guess that is it..  I’ll just prefix the titles to entries to random with some disclaimer about that it’s a “signs” entry or whatever other things that I think might be mostly for my own personal, slow and much invisible growth, in attempts to articulate what might be only comprehensible through an inner lens or through the energy that makes things feel convincing, ..  

Clairsentience, perhaps feeling convincing only to those who need and are ready to be convinced, for that matter...  

Who opened themselves, saying convince me...  

And what if it’s open only to those whose energy is haywire like the long nearly eight year journey of what I think is kundalini, ..  

Probably 6 or 7 years before I got to where energy shimmers and convinces my heart and mind of things that my mind knows nothing about, but cannot toss aside, all day long...  

Like high and insane...  

Surely that is how my scavenger hunt of self would look to others whose energy hasn’t done things to convince them of things that make no mental sense..  

Or,...  Some might be open, but would it be relevant to them?  

I don’t know...  I wish I could make it relevant..  Like, here...  The universe gave me this particular sign so I can give it to you, so you can feel it like I feel my own signs, not just see it, but actually feel that energy, the exciting shimmering ecstatic stuff, the convincing, knowing this is right, even though mind can’t explain..  

The lolling in mindfulness of enjoying the feelings and imagery and appreciation without possessing it..  

Of these signs, not knowing when they’ll change again and how they might fail to lead where you’d like or expect or they seem to imply or shout and promise, almost... 

 And yet even then, to be able to just appreciate but not pluck it like the flower, the bubble, the floating changing current of the stream, the lightning flash, the changing energy..  Like that quote from the Buddhist Diamond Sutra.  

If you can be so detached and flowing with changes yet still feel the Universe will guide you where you need to be,...  and shower immensity and appreciate each little thing...  

Even as it often is lasting but a moment before it goes away yet again to be replaced by an infinite train of more and more images... 

If you can enjoy all this without clinging nor possessing and take guidance in the same way...  

That is the experience I would like to share with others, and to offer signs and guidance along that stream of frequency or whatever you might call it...  

I haven’t found a way to concretize a path or a future that seems hold-able...  Though I have solidified certain sources of stability, creativity, abundance, somewhat...  So that I can feel safe and well and have order in the chaos...  

And these little things and ever changing things...  and signs and images, to be appreciated, not necessarily...  Only appreciated if your heart automatically truly feels it, scanning and wishing, looking and letting in the sincere feelings of appreciation, recognizing but not making oneself do it..  Not making oneself say “I should be grateful for..  (fill in the blank)”  (because that can be good, but only sometimes...  For me, at least, I am much better off gradually following each true feeling instead of trying to train my feelings to follow the expected path of gratitude for such and so on..  Perhaps because I’m depressive and my authentic gratitude, even when drilled into me, is still not enough...  I need more than gratitude..  I need beauty, joy, delight and passion, thrill and excitement, purpose and art...  Even if it starts feeling humble, but I have to at least feel something..  There is at least that...  Not forcing a feeling, but feeling it in that very moment...  And each moment what I can feel or not feel joy about changes...)

So all these beautiful things and sights, senses, touches, tastes, textures, fingertip and hand held, smelled, patterns, words, ideas, the way a word or a quote feels in the mind, heart, creativity, poetic nuances,..  Song, dance,.. And, the sound of a voice, the feeling of a way of moving, autonomic sensory meridian response (ASMR),...  

Yes, and, just, the way these tiniest things transport to something soothing or even ecstatic,...  mind altering fragrances and things I ingest and...  

Ways to move the eyes or hands (EMDR, mudras), sacred signs, symbols, mantras, music...  

...  All these and signs,..  

And the slow unfolding of that, mystery scavenger detective game of that....  And divination in the many strange continual forms I have created it for myself... 

And all the things Elli my child brings,... Rhyme, absurdity, fairy tale, the most far out and silly imagination,...   skip and hop and showers of slightness, hyperness and childlikeness, puddles and splashes and scents and dreams and imagination and ideals, and associations, in my deep child, inner child heart...  Whatever makes me feel alive or excited, no matter how immature it might seem...

All these things, ever day, and all day long, I scan my life and seize what feels vital to me, and observe what seems beautiful but too tiring or not quite the right thing for me at the time,..  to actually act on...  And those feed me too...  

So, all of these things...  So, they are not even necessarily “possessed” at all..  Not even necessarily touched at all..  

Or maybe, maybe it is often..  Just, merely...  

Felt,...  Felt, in energy, in energy alone...

And so, felt, in energy, but not touched in any other way...  

That is what it is often about for me, when it comes to being able to stabilize the unstable life and mental health, too..  When it comes to finding order in the disorder and creating order from the elements available in the disorder too.  From attracting order into a disordered sphere of noise and excess and randomness and exhaustion, illness, etc, etc, etc, alas..  And yet..  There is always that, “and yet,..”, for me, these days, it seems...
