Soul ascending
This chilling photo was taken in Stanton, Kentucky, at the scene of a fatal motorbike crash. Saul Vazquez was a witness in his truck and took the photo which appears to show a ghostly figure above the body of the  motorcyclist. Vazquez asserts that the photo hasn’t been edited in any way. Do you believe this is the soul of the man leaving his body?

Haunted Room 13
Room 13 of the San Remo Hotel in San Francisco was the home of an elderly ex-prostitute. She died of old age and her body wasn’t discovered for several months. She haunts the hotel, appearing as a full-bodied apparition as captured in this incredible photograph by livescifi.tv.
The hotel also boasts hauntings by a young man who slit his wrists in the bath tub and a bridegroom who was shot by his wife’s jilted lover.

The Swing at the End of the World
In Baños, Ecuador, deep in the wilderness, is La Casa Del Arbol (The Treehouse) - a seismic monitoring station that observes Mount Tungurahua. Whilst the treehouse in itself is a stunning sight, it is the simple swing from the tree’s branches that people flock to see. The swing sits 2,600 metres above sea level and offers no harness or safety nets to those that dare ride it. To those brave enough the swing offers an amazing and terrifying view of the volcano and its surroundings. Whilst it looks like the swing is on a cliff, it’s actually hanging over a steep slope that falls 100 feet.

British actor Michael Sheen will be making his directorial debut with his adaptation of the graphic novel, Green River Killer - A True Detective Story, about serial killer Gary Ridgway.
The book focuses on the police’s long journey to capture Ridgway, America’s most prolific serial killer, and features Tom Jensen, a detective who spent twenty years on the case. The graphic novel was written by Detective Jensen’s son, Jeff.
Sheen, who has starred in films such as the Underworld series, has said, “This is a dark story but one that ultimately finds hope and meaning in that darkness. The story of Tom and Gary, and how they are bound together in time, pulled me in from the beginning and wouldn’t let go. I hope that by now bringing it to life on screen, it can make audiences feel the same way.”

On July 22, 1975, a fire broke out in a Boston tenement building. 19 year-old Diana Bryant and her 2 year-old goddaughter, Tiare Jones, were trapped inside. They managed to reach the fire escape on the fifth floor while the fire department raised their ladder to rescue them. However, just before they were reached the fire escape collapsed and both Diana and Tiare fell fifty feet to the street below. Sadly Diana died from her injuries, but Tiare survived thanks to her fall being softened by landing on top of Diana. It’s a distressing photo that shows how quickly hope of rescue can turn to tragedy.

These photos were taken a few miles south of where the RMS Titanic sank on 20th April 1912, by German cruise ship MS Bremen.
The iceberg in the photos is believed to have been the one that the Titanic fatally struck.
At 11.39pm the iceberg was first spotted by lookout Frederick Fleet. He immediately called the bridge to announce, “Iceberg, right ahead!” It took only 30 seconds from the first sighting of the iceberg to impact.
The iceberg created a gash in the starboard hull approximately 220-245 feet long, which let in 400 tons of water a minute. It took 2 hours and 40 minutes for the ship to sink.
The iceberg is estimated to have been 50-100 feet in height above water, and 200-400 feet in length according to Titanic survivors.

The Murder of Evelyn Wagner
On October 2, 1973, 24 year-old Evelyn Wagner ran out of petrol. She walked eleven blocks to the nearest petrol station, filled up a petrol can, and began walking back to her car. On Blue Hill Avenue, Dorchester, Boston, six black teenagers accosted her, forcing her down an alleyway. They struck her repeatedly and shouted racial abuse. They then forced her to pour the contents of the petrol can onto herself, and one of her attackers lit a match and set her alight. The group then left her aflame, laughing as they departed.
Wagner rolled around on the ground attempting to put out the flames, and managed to cross the street and enter a nearby shop where the police were called. She had second and third degree burns all over her body and her hair had been singed away. In the hours that followed, Wagner told police that three of the six teenagers had previously warned her to leave the neighbourhood. She was a white woman who had recently moved to a mostly black neighbourhood in an area where racial tension was incredibly high in the 1960s and 70s. She died four hours after her ordeal. Her attackers have never been identified.

Joanna Dennehy is a rarity among killers – a psychopathic female British serial killer. She killed three men and seriously injured two others in a two week period during March 2013, around Peterborough, England.
Her first victim was Lukasz Slaboszewski, a Polish man who believed Dennehy was his girlfriend. She lured him to a property with suggestive text messages whereupon Dennehy stabbed him through the heart. His body was dumped in a wheelie bin, and at some point after the murder, Dennehy showed the corpse to a 14-year-old girl.
Ten days later she killed her flatmate, John Chapman, by stabbing him in the neck, heart and chest. Apparently she called an accomplice afterwards and sang Britney Spears’ hit, “Oops, I’ve done it again.” The same day, she killed Kevin Lee, her landlord and boss. She again used sex to lure him to his death. He was stabbed multiple times and his body discarded in a ditch nearby. He had been dressed in a black sequin dress with his buttocks exposed, in what the judge at her trial called a “final humiliation.”
Following the murders she told her friends, Gary Stretch and Leslie Layton, that she wanted to continue killing. Stretch had previously helped Dennehy dispose of the bodies. Stretch and Layton then drove Dennehy around the town where she picked out two random men and proceeded to attack them, leaving them for dead. To her last victim, John Rogers, after plunging a knife into his flesh, she said, “Oh look, you’re bleeding. I’d better do some more.” Luckily for Rogers, he survived to tell the tale of how she appeared cold and distant during the attack, as though she wasn’t enjoying it at all. He was stabbed a total of forty times.
Dennehy had been admitted into a psychiatric hospital a year before her murderous spree and had been diagnosed as having psychopathic and other personality disorders, with a history of self-harm. After her arrest she told a psychiatrist, “I killed to see how it felt, to see if I was as cold as I thought I was… then it got more-ish.”
She has since been diagnosed with paraphilia sadomasochism.
At her trial in April 2014 the judge deemed her too dangerous to ever be released, making her only the third woman in English history to be given natural life in prison. The other two were Myra Hindley and Rosemary West. She is currently 33.

Adam Smith took this intriguing photo of the abandoned Brecon and Radnor Lunatic Asylum, Wales whilst on a walk. There appears to be a face at the first floor window of the facility that used to house psychiatric patients, and which was also a prisoner of war camp for German soldiers during World War Two. The site was closed in 1999. Smith said he has been asked to remove the photo from the web after hundreds of people have since turned up at the asylum to hunt the ghost down.
