Edgar isn’t sure what to make of you. Even now, even though you’ve decided to stay in Cradle with him, throwing your things and your only way back home into the rabbit hole that took you here, he finds himself wondering why you did that. You want to stay with him, that part is obvious enough, and you’ve always been so earnest with what you think that he has no reason to doubt you. But even so, he holds onto the hope that you really do want to stay, that you want to love him and you’ll choose that every day for as long as you two shall live, and that this isn’t some dream that he’ll inevitably wake up from and be forced to go back to the way he once was.
There’s an ache in his chest when he thinks about how he tried to use you, how he only viewed you as a tool. You always tell him that doesn’t matter now, that he’s done more than enough to prove that he cares for you in ways that far surpass viewing you as a tool, but some nights your words aren’t enough and he wakes up in a cold sweat, visions of the Magic Tower and his long-imprisoned uncle flashing in his mind. He finds solace in you, your arms around his waist and your face pressed against his back, and on those nights you wake up with his forehead pressed against yours so he can see your face first thing in the morning. You always know why he’s facing your way, and you always ask if he wants to talk about it.
By morning, Edgar is usually okay. He’s gone through night terrors enough to be able to chase them off on his own. He doesn’t want to burden you with things that he did to hurt you, actions he took that led to your suffering. It would be horrible to complain when you were the victim in that situation, and he doesn’t want to be horrible to you.
But all it takes for him to break, to crack just a little, is you taking him into your arms, pressing sweet kisses to his forehead, letting him know that he can talk to you about anything, anytime, and that all he needs to do is call because you will always come, no matter what. And for the first time in a long, long while, Edgar feels like he could cry.
He doesn’t.
He doesn’t, but with every passing day he feels like he can be more honest with you. The sun rises above the horizon and dips below it, day after day, and you’re still here. You still bring him pastries you made and jellybeans you picked up from his favorite candy shop when you run errands. You still bring him a blanket when he falls asleep at his desk because he is working too hard, and you always pull up a chair right next to him so that when he wakes up, the first thing he will see is still your face. You still sing his praises when he spars, you still shine down on him with that beautiful smile when you run into his arms. You still place sticky notes on the wall above his desk, reminding him to take care of himself and that his favorite pastry is in the fridge if he needs any food while you’re away. Your notes form a mosaic of love and care and sweetness above the space that he used to slave away in. Now, because of you, instead of a desk full of paperwork signed by bloody hands, it feels like sitting on a fluffy cloud overlooking a flower-speckled meadow.
Edgar doesn’t know how he can even begin to repay you for what you’ve done for him. He knows without a doubt that he will love you every day, for as long as his soul will allow. Promising to love you with his heart isn’t enough, he thinks, because his heart could stop beating any day and a love that dies like a heart is no love at all.
You’re the most special person in his life, without a doubt. For far too long he thought his love wasn’t enough, that it wasn’t worthy, and yet you’ve tried (and are still trying) to convince him that it is. You cradle his hands to your chest and you say they’re warm, you kiss his scars when the memories hurt, and you allow his bloody hands to touch and hold you. You’ve allowed him so much, you’ve spoiled him rotten, and he couldn’t go on living without you
He doesn’t know what pulled you into Cradle, but he prays to every star in the sky that whatever leads you here doesn’t change its mind. Whether it’s fate or just you (beautiful, radiant you), if you were to slip from his grasp, he doesn’t know what he would do.
And so, when you come back from running errands with a sleepy stumble in your step, when the sun dips beneath the sky, when your eyes and fluttering shut and you can’t stop yourself from yawning, Edgar catches you. His eyes are soft as he takes you in, your fingers curling around his bicep as you smile. Your head falls against his chest, and you allow yourself to slip into his embrace, your ear right against his heart. An explosion of emotions swell from within him, starting from the very pits of his stomach and blooming into a beautiful flower as they hit his heart. The happiness he feels, just holding you, knowing you trust him enough to let down your guard around him, fills him with the greatest joy he's ever known.
“Welcome home, dumpling.” he teases, voice soft and quiet as he brushes your hair away from your face, “Had a rough day?”
“Mhm.” you answer, nodding. Your hair scratches against his shirt, and his heart pitter patters in his chest, “Jonah ran me ragged.”
Edgar tsks, swooping you up into his arms. He’ll have to let Jonah know not to get too overzealous with his love, even though he knows all too well how easy it is.
It’s familiar, carrying you to bed and falling asleep at your side—in fact, Edgar knows it's never been easier. Waking up the next morning is just as easy, and even though he wishes he could stay there till the afternoon, he gets out of bed and gets ready before you can convince him to come back.
He’s out the door before you open your eyes.
The day passes like any other, with him running around headquarters and organizing paperwork, starting the occasional sparring match with Zero or one of his soldiers just so he doesn’t get bored. He makes sure to go into town and get the present he wanted to get for you, his heart set on giving it to you by the end of the day. He’s sure you’ll love it, and he’s certain this is what he wants.
He just hopes you will want it as well.
By the time he gets back to headquarters, it’s time for dinner. You’re waiting in the dining room for him, two dishes placed in front of you, and he delights in the way your smile glimmers when you see him. You perk up completely at the sight of him, and it's enough to fill him with butterflies.
You really are too sweet to him.
Dinner passes in the blink of an eye. He talks about his day and you talk about yours, observing your hand gestures and facial expressions like they’re the most interesting thing in all of Cradle. No, even more so—they’re the most interesting things in this world and the next and the next, because no matter how many worlds and universes there are, they wouldn’t hold a candle to the person who found him at his darkest and dragged him out with their own two hands, allowing him the mercy of clawing at their palms and grasping for their wrists and crushing their fingers when the darkness latches onto him and tried to yank him away from the light.
The walk back to his room is quiet. He can tell you’re sleepy, your hand wrapped around his wrist loosening and tightening every few seconds. It’s cute how you walk side by side but still insist on holding onto him. It makes him feel so loved, even when he opens his door and lets the two of you in and you have to let go.
“You seem excited about something, Edgar.” you comment, slipping your arms out of your shirt and changing into your pajamas.
He snickers to himself, shooting you an indifferent smile. You can read him so well, better than anyone else, and wow he really loves you.
“You’re right. I picked up a little gift for you while I was in town.” he says, coming closer to where you stand, tired from the day's events and in your pajamas but looking so, so lovely.
He cups your cheeks, and that hand slides away when he drops on one knee.
Your hands fly to your mouth, covering your gasp when he pulls out a small black box and presents it to you. Your eyes are already watering, and even though he wants to wipe your tears he knows those are the happiest tears he’s ever seen.
“When you first fell into Cradle, I couldn’t have imagined what you would end up becoming to me. You’re my everything. I love you more than anything, and you’ve given me more love than I ever could have hoped for. Marry me, and we can spend our days happy and in love for as long as we both should live.”
My precious Alice.
Your yes is so loud he’s certain you just woke up half of headquarters as you throw yourself into his arms, crying into his shoulder as he slips the ring on your finger. You clutch it to your chest like it's something precious, like it's something you can't bear to lose, and Edgar clutches you in much the same way.
His suspicions are confirmed when Jonah kicks down the door, looking frantically into the room to make sure you’re safe (and Edgar knows he only came for you, his now fiance, because he knows full well Edgar can defend himself.) Zero comes soon after, lured by the commotion Jonah makes after learning you two are engaged, and if Edgar didn’t know any better he’d say Zero is just as happy as he is.
Leave it to his student to always look out for him. It seems sometimes Zero becomes the teacher himself when it comes to Edgar’s happiness.
If there was any sleepiness in your eyes it's gone now, especially when Jonah orders everyone into the dining hall for a celebration. Tears gather in his eyes but he doesn’t let them fall, not even when you point them out and ask if Jonah is okay and he snaps that he’s fine, that he’s just tired and that the two of you screaming ruined his beauty sleep. Neither of you comment on his choked-up voice or his sniffling. You know that’s what's best.
The chefs are all too happy to bring out the alcohol (which lures Kyle from his office, who then offers you his sincere congratulations even though he’s very much out of it.) And before you know it, it’s like nighttime hasn’t fallen and most of Cradle isn’t asleep, because you’re with the man you love and all of his friends and everyone is smiling and laughing and it makes you tear up again.
You had no idea your happiness would make people so happy. You had no idea your shared happiness could make everyone this happy. You had no idea you two had so much influence on other people’s lives, even though it seems silly to comprehend it now when you’ve changed everyone’s lives in some way just by being here and loving one of their own.
You were part of a family now. A huge, dysfunctional, reckless, loyal family.
Edgar’s lips find your cheek and he kisses you like it’s the first time. You turn to him with watery eyes and he smiles at you, the crinkles around his eyes and in his brow making your heart pound.
“Thank you for saying yes.” he murmurs, “I love you so much.”
He kisses you, in front of everyone, and you cling to his collar like you want him to stay there forever.
Because you do, and you always will.
Because your love is felt with your whole soul, and if it died with your heart it’d be no love at all.

Hii! I don't know if you can write this request or not but I would like to request for ikepri maybe clavis/ ikerev Kyle/ ikesen yuki / ikevamp who idk(?) (you can choose whoever you want that you think suit for this request). I don't know how to elaborate it but it's kind of like yk when a guy friends thought you were someone who just don't like women/ the type that will not sleep with the same women but then they saw a woman got out of your room maybe disheveled and they're low-key shocked,, that's the type of requests I would like for you to do lol (but you can change it the scenario if you want). They tried to investigate your movements with the mc and what's your relationship with her and all they heard after was a moan, scream and slashing sounds. Oop maybe it's too.. They all thought they heard wrong but it happens again and one day they saw them coddle each other in the kitchen, so touchy and kissy too until they saw the suitors hand goes down and they scream. That's all I've got lol. A little smut maybe if you wrote it. Depends on you my love ≧ω≦
I hope you don't mind, I went with IkeRev's Kyle on this one. I don't get too many asks for Ikemen Revolution and I do so love those characters. Here's Approx. 1100 words on Kyle and Alice in an unexpected tryst. Mostly fluff!
Edgar made his way through the halls of the Red Army headquarters with a jaunty step. His intentionally discordant whistling stopped as he passed the infirmary. Not out of concern that he might annoy some sick patient - no. Rather because he heard the most unexpected sound. A soft, feminine moan.
The sound might have been for pain but there was something about it that pricked at his ears. He paused, and listened. After a moment, he heard a sharp intake of breath. A gasp. And the squeak of a cot.
Curious, and feeling more than a little wicked, Edgar tried to open the door to surprise his friend Kyle. He couldn’t believe the drunk doctor was doing what it sounded like he was doing in there, and he had to find out who he was doing it with.
The handle jiggled in his grip, locked. Then, just as he was about to pull out a lockpick, the door swung open.
Edgar inspected Kyle with a sweeping gaze, but it was impossible to tell if this version of disheveled and grumpy was anything different than his usual look. His gaze moved past the doctor and into the room beyond. Alice was there, sitting on a stool, book in hand.
“What is it?” Kyle regarded him with a bored expression.
“I see Alice is assisting you?”
Kyle nodded.
“And you find her assistance . . . satisfying?” Edgar raised his eyebrows meaningfully.
“Sure. She’s still learning, but she tries.” He shrugged. “Anyway, did you need something?”
Edgar shook his head. “No, no. I was just stopping by to say hello.”
“Alright.” Kyle gave another noncommittal shrug. “I’m going out.”
Alice hopped up from the stool. “Oh, can I come too?”
“Yeah.” The doctor still looked and sounded bored.
Edgar eyed her. Her clothes were a little rumpled but that could be from sitting. He decided he must have misheard whatever it was he heard. There was no way these two could have been doing anything interesting. “Well, have fun I guess. Good to see you. And you, Alice.”
He left, forgetting entirely about it until later that day when Jonah mentioned how much time Alice was spending in the infirmary. “Oh, yes, it’s unexpected. Kyle taking in interest in a girl,” Edgar grinned.
“I’m sure it’s not like that.” Jonah gave him a prim frown. “He never notices pretty girls. Not that I find Alice pretty. It’s just, she’s a girl. Stop smiling at me like that.”
Edgar chuckled. “Well, pretty or not you’ll never guess what I thought I heard.” He related the story to Jonah with just a little embellishment, enjoying the way the Red Queen’s eyebrows rose and the stain of his pink cheeks.
“You can’t be serious!” Jonah looked lost somewhere between disbelief and outrage.
“Well, there’s only one way to be sure.”
“What’s that?”
Edgar’s expression went deadly serious. “We have to spy on them.” Inside, he was laughing. Afterall, there was no way Kyle and Alice actually did anything. No way at all. But spinning Jonah up was a joy.
The two of them set about keeping an eye on Kyle.
Edgar hadn’t actually spent much time on his Kyle-project, but apparently Jonah was on task. He showed up in Edgar’s office, high color in his cheeks, eyebrows so high they almost touched his hairline.
“Disgusting. Just disgusting.” Jonah took a breath, trying to calm himself down. “I . . . I heard them.”
“Oh? Is that so?”
The Red Queen gave a curt nod. “I saw them disappear into one of the little-used storage rooms and then,” his voice dropped, “there were noises.”
Edgar kept his grin to himself as best he could, nodding seriously. “I see. Yes. Disgusting noises, I assume?” He popped a brightly colored candy into his mouth.
“Yes. Heavy breathing and - and Alice was . . .” his lips firmed to a thin, pale line. “She was moaning!”
“So you heard the noises. Did you open the door?”
“No! Of course not. I left. I shouldn’t be exposed to that sort of behavior.” He shook his head.
“And you’re positive it couldn’t have been anything else? Moving crates maybe? The work made them breathe heavily and then Alice might have stubbed a toe and moaned in pain?”
Jonah frowned. “No. I - I am quite sure -”
“Because you listen at the door while people do things all the time?” Edgar waggled his eyebrows.
“No!”
Edgar nodded. “So it is possible you misheard. Hm.” He still couldn’t believe Kyle would ever touch a woman, except perhaps to lift a bottle of alcohol off her, or to save her life. He just wasn’t the kind of guy to have a girlfriend.
Jonah looked, if anything, even more outraged. “I know what I heard! The real question is what we will do about it. Alice can’t be allowed to be - to be taken advantage of! We are supposed to be keeping her safe - not - not what Kyle is doing.”
“Is that so? What do you propose?”
“I . . . I don’t know. Perhaps I can occupy her elsewhere so Kyle doesn’t have the opportunity to get her alone.” Jonah pouted. “That drunken doctor is always causing problems.”
They planned a little while longer, and then Jonah left looking somewhat mollified. Edgar was completely amused by how seriously the Queen was taking this. But Edgar was sure there was no substance to it. He knew Kyle and he was familiar with girls like Alice - too sweet and innocent to be interested in adult activities.
Edgar headed to the kitchen, feeling a bit peckish. He wanted a snack before settling in to read some reports on the disappearance of a shipment of magic crystals. That was quite concerning, but less fun than the made up drama of Kyle and Alice. He wondered how long it would take Jonah to figure out the whole thing was a -
The Jack stopped in the kitchen doorway, eyes going wide. An unexpected sight met his unblinking gaze. Alice perched on a countertop, her head thrown back, eyes shut. Kyle was in front of her, his hands lifting her skirt, his lips on her thigh and moving higher with each kiss.
“K-kyle, that tickles! Ohhhhh!” Alice squealed.
“Does it tickle now?” Kyle’s lazy smile was a teensy bit wicked. His fingers reached for the edge of Alice’s dainty white panties.
Edgar backed out slowly and silently. It seemed his assumptions were . . . flawed. He swallowed and shook his head. When he turned the hall corner and was finally out of sight, he leaned back against the wall.
From the kitchen there were more muffled sounds of pleasure.
It seemed Kyle was every bit the dirty Lothario Jonah suspected. Edgar grinned. He’d have to find a way to tease the doc about this. And Alice too. So many ripe opportunities for fun.

Fenrir, with a shit eating grin on his face: What, you mean that's not a basic skill?
Alice, in her head: ...there was nothing basic about that
Why did y'all let me write this stuff

♥ Pairing: Butler!Edgar x Princess!Alice
♥ Summary: It isn't easy being the beloved princess of Cradle on a day that is for confessing love.
♥ wc: 900
♥ a.n: Still one of my favorite boys. Edgar is just the sweetest. I decided to show off his bodyguard status in this fic. Since in this universe, Edgar is both her butler and trained bodyguard. He can truly do it all
Tumblr media
Metal clanged against metal. Sweat dripped from his brown locks. Jade irises narrowing at every scrawny noble scurrying in the above walkway, off to see the princess with bouquets of flowers and boxes upon boxes of sweets. Edgar swung his sword down, striking at Luka with precision. He was glad that his fellow swordsman, and guard, was skilled enough to take each blow.
"I haven't seen you this motivated in some time," Luka said, completely on the defensive. Clearly, his friend wanted to release some stress. Luka was simply glad that he hadn't blown off training today. Even the most seasoned warriors had to continuously hone their body and weapon.
It was a rare day indeed when the gentle demon showed his true emotions so clearly on his features, if only for a brief moment when his watchful eyes caught sight of another man entering the castle in search of Princess Alice.
"I can be quite formidable when I want to be."
"So, you are imagining killing each one of them as they enter?"
Edgar turned his attention fully on his friend for the first time since they started sparring. He lowered his weapon, curiously admiring him. "My dear Luka, did you just make a joke?" Ah, it did lift his spirit to have his best of friends soothing his aching heart.
Sheathing his own sword, Luka shrugged. "It was the glare you gave them. If you're so concerned about her, then why aren't you with her?" Having two duties gave the man amble time and excuses to always be at her side.
"She dismissed me."
The very words made him dejected. Hence why Edgar had opted for immersing himself in swordplay with Luka. But it only gave him a view of slimy nobles vying for her attention.
"And you listened to her?" Luka hadn't known Edgar to be the one to do as he was told. Sure, Alice could say what she wanted, but the persistence of the Jack of Hearts always won out. "It wouldn't be unreasonable to check in. It's been some hours."
Edgar appreciated the absolution. It mattered not how long he was apart from her. The thrill of seeing her alighted excitement within himself. However, he was never prepared for the fluttering of butterflies when he spotted her. She ignited a part of him that no one else could.
His steps were silent. Finding her alone was difficult. Her duties required her to take lessons, have meetings. And today, she had to entertain the nobles seeking her attention, as per orders of her parents. It was a part of being princess.
With quick movements, he had stolen her away behind one of the large pillars, out of sight should anyone come this way. "Now, what if I were someone with ill intentions?" He teased as easily as he breathed. Jade irises sparkled with amusement.
"Aren't you? Sneaking up on a girl like that," Alice replied, attempting to quell her rapidly beating heart. It was from the sudden relocation, but she could admit that simply his presence brought about palpitations.
"You wound me, princess."
Alice giggled, shaking her head. "And what exactly are you doing here? I vividly remember telling you to take the day off." She'd only escaped Jonah's clutches for a few seconds, and here was Edgar, whisking her away with perfect timing.
"I can't recall. Strange."
"Edgar-"
Her chastisement cut off with a precisely timed kiss.
Arguing with him never produced a victor. Honestly, it rarely had an ending with words. His tendency to use his charms to resolve their petty bickering only increased with time. Not that Alice would complain.
Especially when he looked so good in this uniform.
"Did you come back because you were jealous?" Alice squeezed in between heated kisses. She wasn't ignorant. His displeasure of this day well known. She received an influx of lavish gifts and entertained many noblemen. All a part of her duty as princess.
Edgar rested his arm above her head, caressing her cheek with his gloved thumb. "Perhaps a smidge. I counted at least thirty." He liked to hide his true feelings behind a carefully placed mask, but when she giggled in response, Edgar's expression fell. His cheeks burned.
"I suppose it was that many. Honestly, Jonah dealt with them more than I did. I am grateful for his assistance, although I would have preferred to have you with me." Alice couldn't bring herself to subject him to that. Having to stand in a room, watching these other men flirt with her, tease her.
She'd no doubt in his ability to maintain his composure, but it would have been much too cruel.
"I would have if only-"
Alice lifted her hand, pressing a finger against his lips. "I know. You're always doing uncomfortable things for me, and for once, I could spare you from it. End of discussion, okay? Jonah will certainly come seeking me any moment and I'd rather spend these few precious moments doing other things." Her work was far from complete for the day.
He could hardly argue. "Yes, you're quite right." It was Edgar's duty to protect her as her guard and butler, but also protect her heart as a man who cared so deeply for her. Having her confess that she, too, wanted to protect his heart...
That filled him with a gentle fire.
"Shall I steal you away for a late-night rendezvous when you're finished?"
"Yes. I would like that very much. Spending at least some time with you on this day of love is all my heart truly wants."
Their lips met in a tender kiss, hidden from view behind the large, granite pillar. A princess falling for her bodyguard? How utterly cliche. But it's the cliches that everyone swoons for. After all, a fairy tale is the greatest love story of all.

The feeling of cool fingers lovingly combing through your hair, slowly and gently coaxed you from the blissful comfort of your dreams and into the waking world.
A quiet rustle of fabric sounded out as the owner of said fingers realised you were awake, and after a moment you felt them lean over you, pressing a gentle kiss to your brow as they murmured a good morning. The action pulled a sleepy smile from you as you as you murmured a groggy reply, their soft huff of laughter sounding like music to your ears.
After a few more minutes of peaceful silence as you simply enjoyed their gentle affections, you felt them reluctantly draw away, a soft shiver running through you as their claws briefly brushed over your skin. Laying there in silence, you listened as they moved around the room, getting ready for the day, not quite willing to leave your warm little cocoon just yet.
Eventually, the sound of them settling their weapon into place at their hip, echoed crisply across the room, and instantly you knew that they had finished in their task.
Despite knowing that they wouldn’t dare leave without saying goodbye, you still found yourself hastily sitting up the moment they finished, no doubt looking rather comical with the way you had bundled yourself up in your blankets.
A warm chuckle of amusement was your companions answer, and eagerly you listened as they made their way across the room. Soon enough, you felt their hands tenderly cup your face, warmth filling you at their touch and a smile quickly forming on your lips in response. Instead of the goodbye kiss you had been expecting however, you felt them shift slightly, before hesitantly brushing over the nearly invisible scars that had taken your sight on that fateful day.
Instantly, your heart sank, knowing exactly where their thoughts had shifted, their face no doubt twisted with grief and regret, the kind they only ever showed in the privacy of your rooms.
Though you wanted to say something, you knew that no words you could offer, would soothe the guilt that sat so heavily on their shoulders. In their mind, it was their fault that you had lost your sight, especially since you had been so close to them at the time, and under their protection.
It was something that they were convinced they could have avoided, and unfortunately there were no amount of words that were ever going to change that belief. If anything, their guilt had only increased ever since the two of you had gotten together, though it had rather quickly evolved into overprotectiveness.
Knowing all of this, you simply lifted one of your hands, pressing it against the back of theirs as you turned your head and kissed their palm, reminding them of your forgiveness. The soft hitch of their breath in response, likely would have gone unheard by someone who wasn’t so attuned to all the sounds around them, and quietly you pressed another kiss to their palm, just for good measure.
Letting out a shuddering exhale, they finally shifted again, shaken from their brooding thoughts thanks to your gentle actions, and tenderly gifted you the expected parting kiss.
With a smile on your face, you listened as they left the room, before contentedly wiggling back into your comfortable little pocket of warmth.
Though you’d never lie and say that you didn’t miss your sight terribly, part of you couldn’t help but think that it was all worth it.
It was what finally brought you two together, after all.

Blue (Zero & his Red Army Family)
Fandom: Ikemen Revolution
Pairing: none
Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Fluff
Summary: When Zero is blue, it's his Red Army Family's job for him to be yellow.
A/N: I was feeling the blues today, so I decided to write another comfort fanfic but this time with Zero.
This is a Zero-appreaciation fanfic. I also love the idea that the red army has each other as a family as we all know their sad/tragic family situations. Especially, Zero who doesn't have the "crimson blood", has the red officers as his family.
AO3
Edgar noticed it first. His student was eating a blue lollipop after his sword practice. He didn’t miss the glint of sadness in those sapphire blue eyes. the corners of his mouth turned down, knowing exactly what was going on.
Jonah noticed it second. The Ace was eating a blue lollipop again after he has finished his dinner. He was familiar with the Ace’s love for lollipops, but he was most familiar with the sadness that those sapphire blue eyes were showing. Putting down his fork with a slice of mille-feuille, he knew what was going on. Kyle noticed it third. The Ace was eating a blue lollipop when he has visited the infirmary to hand him some documents. He was about to scold him about his health when he saw the familiar emotion wavering in those sapphire blue eyes. As he watched the Ace leave the infirmary with a solemn expression, he knew what was going on. Lancelot noticed it last. The Ace was eating a blue lollipop when he was done doing his report. He didn’t say anything as he took a glance at the Ace’s sapphire blue eyes full of sorrow and loneliness. Putting down his pen, sighing, he knew what was going on… …and he knew what to do. Zero entered his room with a solemn look. He just finished patrolling. He was tired even though there was not any conflict happening in the neutral territory. Sighing, he was about to grab a blue lollipop from the jar when there was a knock from his door. “Zero, I’m coming in.” ah…Edgar. Without bothering waiting for his student’s permission, he entered the room with his usual smile. Zero groaned, “The last time I check, you need someone’s permission to enter.” He told him off wearily, but it is not like Edgar going to listen anyway. “King Lancelot requests your presence at an emergency meeting.” “Emergency meeting?” Zero’s sapphire blue eyes lifted up in surprise, “Emergency meeting for what exactly?”
Edgar’s smile didn’t ease his nerves, “Let us hurry now. You don’t want to make King Lancelot wait.” The Jack of Hearts simply said as he heads on. Zero could only frown as he followed his teacher. Walking down the hallways, he became confused when the direction they were heading to was the dining hall. When they reached the door of the dining hall, he prepared to lecture his mentor, when Edgar turned to face him. “How about you open it, my dear protege?” Zero’s brows knitted suspiciously, but he decided to humour the Jack and opened the door… Only to gasp in surprise at the sight in front of him… The dining table was filled with his favourite dishes along with desserts that were sweet. Around the table were the other officers, holding each a yellow lollipop. Bewildered, he could not find the right words to utter. Sensing his distress, Edgar spoke up behind him as he joined the other officers while holding out a yellow lollipop as well. “You have been looking blue, my dear protege. As your teacher, I can’t allow such a thing.” This time, Edgar smiled at him warmly, leaving the poor Ace more baffled. “Indeed,” spoke up Jonah, “You were the same colour as your eyes. It was hard to finish my mille-feuille when one has sour look on their face.” His pretty face was in displeasure, but everyone knew he was only masking his concern for the Ace. “Now, now, there is no need to scold him when this dinner is for him,” Kyle said with a goofy smile though Zero knew he was itching to grab the bottle of champagne in front of him. “For me?” “Food is the best cure to the blues,” Kyle responded. That just sounds ridiculous but oh well it’s Kyle. Silence since the Ace’s arrival, Lancelot cleared his throat, gaining all their attention. “Zero, as a punishment for being all blue and for not telling us,” he started then a small smile crept upon his face, “you are to be yellow for the whole evening and the rest of your life.” Zero, caught off guard by his liege’s odd punishment, finally smiled. The officers then held out the yellow lollipops in their hand to him. Zero received them in gratitude, “Thank you, everyone.” “Now, we don’t want the food to run cold especially when I prepared it,” Jonah said. “You mean the chefs prepared it while you order them around?” Jonah was about bunter back at Edgar’s remark when Kyle suddenly popped the champagne.
“Who cares. Zero, here’s your orange juice.” Kyle handed Zero a wine glass of orange juice, knowing that the poor boy feels sleepy as a sip of alcohol. “Take a seat, Zero. This is not a formal dinner but a family dinner.” Lancelot told him.
The moment Lancelot said “family dinner”, happiness swelled within him. Family. Something that he never had. Something that they have given to him when Edgar has offered him to join the red army. At first, he was not accepted by a lot of red soldiers as he does not have the crimson blood. Though whoever threw insults at him had to face Edgar. Lancelot gave him his place as the Ace of Hearts.
As the other officers have commenced to dine in, Edgar looked at his dear protege with a teasing yet warm smile. “Zero, you don’t want to be left with leftovers, do you?”
Coming back from his train of thoughts, Zero rolled his eyes and finally sat down to dine in the food that “Jonah prepared”. However, he knows, despite the whole teasing that Edgar throws at him, it was his way to show that he cares for the Ace of Hearts.
In truth, he was the most thankful for Edgar for saving him. If it weren’t for him, he wouldn’t be here right now, enjoying the warmth and joy of his Red Army Family.
At last, for the first time of being blue in days, he was finally yellow.

Alice shuddered, pulling at the weighted duvet, tangling her cold feet into it. Her legs felt heavy, almost as if they were made of lead and she cursed under her breath, utterly done with her current state of being. She cracked open one eye, directing her weary gaze towards the window, letting out a strained noise of displeasure. The sky behind the water-kissed glass was steel grey, imposing and gloomy, and she felt another shiver run down her spine as she listened to the sound of thunder filling the air, striking with an unsettling intensity, much too close for her taste. She dove under the thick covers in an attempt to block the sight of the flash she knew would follow, the ghost of it chasing after her regardless, her little sanctuary of pillows and blankets illuminated by its eerie light. She yelped, pulling her knees to her chest, cradling them like they were her only lifeline in the world of stormy madness. She laid perfectly still, arms still wrapped tight around her chilly legs, goosebumps littering her skin, a picture of her dark disquiet, and she sighed, wishing the mayhem away, summoning memories of sunlight and rainbows into her shaken mind. Stirred by a soft sound, barely audible, yet so very apparent in contrast to the thunder’s fortissimo, she turned in its direction, arm bumping against a warm surface. The soft chuckle following that surprising yet pleasant collision brought color to her cheeks, pushing some of the darkness away with it, her vision filling with the bright tones of yellow. Her arms reached towards the soothing warmth, stiffness and cold beginning to lose their hold on her and she was greeted by yet another endearing sound, her own name being called out in the softest of voices. She hummed in response, joy spreading through her chest, fear and anxiety dispelled by the sugary tones she never tired of hearing. "Sunshine! What are you doing here? I thought you were on duty today." A long, graceful digit pressed against her lips, sealing the rest of her words behind them. "That I was, but the weather had been so dreadful that I decided to request a little break. I shall let the ’morrow make up for today’s shortcomings." Edgar murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. "Plus… times like these my duty is with you, my love – is it not? Or am I perhaps still more frightening than the wild forces of nature?" Alice sighed, swatting his hand away, scowling at the last remark, though the twitch of the corner of her mouth betrayed her display of feigned exasperation. Edgar's laughter filled the room, brilliant and rich, soon followed by her own. She grabbed a hold of his collar, pulling him down onto the mattress, meeting close to no resistance as he followed, an amused grin gracing his lips. "You of all people should know I have never feared you, silly" she murmured, stroking the back of his neck lovingly. Edgar's breath hitched, his smile disappearing in an instant, caught off-guard by her lighthearted response. True as it was, it still never ceased to amaze him. His brave Alice never saw him as the demon others took him for. He pulled her into a tight embrace, sighing softly when her slender arms held him in turn. "Here I thought I was coming to save you, but it would seem you've turned the tables on us, my dear Alice…" he whispered, his voice so sweet it could rival honey. "No matter how wild the storm or how dark the night, your light overcomes it all."
"Tell me, will you stay with me?" he inquired, the question lingering between them. Pushing against his chest, Alice paused at the sudden urgency in his tone, wondering what brought it up. Head titled to the side, she met his gaze, somewhat puzzled, yet her voice rang clear and reassuring. "Of course I will, I wasn’t planning on making you leave tonight." "Not just tonight, my love… Would you let me call you by my name?" She stared at him in pure disbelief, his sudden proposal leaving her completely stunned, till the gentle stroke of his fingers against her face brought her back to reality. “Ed! You can't joke around like that, I might take you seriously if you do!” she exclaimed, her hands shaking a little, grasping at the sheets in sheer confusion.
Surely, he did not just ask her to... He leaned in, kissing the tip of her nose, his hand tracing a line across her jaw in a delicate, almost hesitant way before withdrawing, the heat of his touch persisting on her skin, his gaze expectant and earnest. Surely, he did not just... "I assure you, I have never been more serious, sweet Alice." He paused, taking a deep breath before going on. "Would you allow me be the one to hold your hand through all the storms that follow?" his usually calm voice wavered, the strength of his conviction reflected in the depths of his jade eyes instead, as he studied her face, patiently waiting for her response. She continued to stare at him, the sweet and unpredictable little devil, who has already owned both her heart and soul, yet acted as if somehow unaware of it being so, happiness threatening to spill the tears she tried so hard to hold back.
Before she even knew it, she was kissing him, the overwhelming joy and need for him taking over her, sweeping away the last of any doubts and uncertainties.
She broke the kiss at last, resting her forehead against his.
"Yes, Ed. I would love to."

so tell me about the weather || 3 sentences, pre-game: edgar bright + observance of proper etiquette.
How many have you killed, the nobleman asks as the tip of a polished sword is raised grandly to point at where a heart would lie, nestled protectively by a cage of ribs - in the gloomy winter haze the mouth doesn’t form words but the repeated clashing of blades do, giving way to other forms of responses like the crunching of snow and bone and one-sided grating cries that proclaim a clinging fervor to life.
How many have you killed, a bleeding heap laying mangled on a blanket of snow asks again, and this time what he does is to put a gloved finger against his smiling lips and the blade of his dagger against the tender skin of a throat. The count has risen up by one, he wishes to say out of courtesy, but then he realizes that there isn’t much meaning to reply to a conversation that had already ended before it began.

For Edgar's Eyes Only
Tumblr media
Written for the lovely @aminiatureworld as part of the Ikemen Revolution Exchange! I loved getting to write this story. Thank you so much to the organizers @ikemenlibrary and @sunnyikemen for setting this up.
Edgar and Alice get up to some spy shenanigans at a fantastic party. Approx. 3500 words!
Alice was glad Edgar had her arm. Otherwise she might have just stopped and stood in the courtyard, staring like some kid from the country on their first visit to London. They stood in the courtyard of a mansion that looked as if it was spun from silk and starlight, the towers too tall to stand, the walls turned and leaned in precarious ways.
Flowering vines crept up the sides, curling around windows and doors. The blossoms were impossible colors, a riot of rainbow hues that faintly glowed in the evening light. Tiny magic crystal sculptures peeked out from between the vines, imitating butterflies and birds. The green tendrils stopped just short of the mirrored roof, which at this time of day burned with the embers of the setting sun.
“This place is amazing,” Alice breathed, smoothing her dress with her free hand.
Edgar nodded. “One of the wealthiest nobles in Cradle. He was a friend of my Uncle Claudius.”
Alice inhaled sharply. “What? But then - wasn’t he involved in . . .”
“Would I bring you here if there was evidence linking him to my uncle’s crimes?” Edgar smiled mischievously.
“Maybe?” She looked at him with one raised brow.
He laughed and patted her arm. Then it was too late to ask anymore questions as they were at the door.
The doorman reviewed their invitations and then let them inside.
The interior was, if anything, more fantastic than the outside. Rather than a typical entry hall, there was a large, high ceilinged chamber dotted with glimmering arches. The frames were made of some kind of stone, and inside them, obscured by the gauzy film of magic, Alice could just make out the shapes of people.
She looked to Edgar with awe and more than a little confusion. “Are those magic portals?”
He nodded and favored her with a knowing smile. “They are. It’s one of the many eccentricities of my uncle’s friend.”
“But that’s so much magic! Aren’t the crystals expensive? How do they keep them on all the time like this? And - how do you know whe-”
Edgar laughed. “One question at a time. Yes, it’s expensive but they don’t stay on all the time. Just for parties like these. And only the staff here know where all the portals lead to. For guests, it’s a surprise every time.” He cupped her chin in his large, warm hand. “So which portal do you want to go through first? Don’t think, just pick one.”
Alice nodded and shut their eyes, then raised a hand, finger aimlessly floating until she fixed on a direction. “That one.” She opened their eyes, mouth turning into a small frown. “But, can I even go through one? Won’t I break it?”
He considered for a moment and then shrugged. “I don’t think so. Unless you’re trying to. So if you feel that sensation of shattering the spell, just don’t.” Then he chuckled. “Or do! That could be entertaining too.”
“I’ll just stop if it feels wrong,” Alice replied, still frowning.
“You’re so cute when you’re trying to be good.”
The two of them moved to the portal nearest the direction Alice was pointing. The sensation of moving through the arch was a bit like the feeling of a soap bubble popping against bare skin. A light, cool touch that left nothing behind as they passed through and entered another room. She could feel a hint of the underlying magic in that gentle pressure, but it held. Alice was relieved the spell didn’t break on her. That would have been so embarrassing, no matter what Edgar said.
There were people gathered here, some standing and others sitting on low couches. Music and conversation hummed through the air in a reassuring way. It sounded like any of the parties Blanc threw or the Red Army celebrations they attended, even though it looked different.
Alice glanced around. “Is Blanc here, do you think?”
“I’m sure he is somewhere. He attends most celebrations for the recording of it, if nothing else.” Edgar took Alice’s hand and led her forward. There were more portals here leading to other rooms. These were set into the walls and framed with pearl and silver. “Let’s see what else there is,” he grinned.
“Alright.” Alice chose another portal at random. “Let’s go left.”
“Hmmm. Alright. Left it is.”
They passed through the room and into the portal, which popped them out in a vast library. Shelves lined the walls and climbed up into high shadowed reaches. There were ladders, but none of them looked tall enough to reach so far.
“That’s an illusion,” Edgar whispered in their ear. “There are only two floors of books. Everything above it is an image woven from magic.
Alice pulled their eyes away from the phantasmagoria and back to the space they were in. There were more low couches here and people on them. A few serving staff walked between them, offering food and drinks. It was much quieter here, as many of the guests were reading. “Would it be ok if I looked at some of the books?”
“Of course it would be, my dear.” An older woman’s voice came from behind Alice.
She turned to find a stately noblewoman studying them. The lady’s clothes were very fine, and dyed a red so dark it almost looked black save for the patterns of light against the grain of the cloth. The woman’s hair was done up in a coiffure that sparkled with red gems, and more red stones dangled from her ears, neck, and wrists.
“Lady Lucine.” Edgar dipped into a proper bow.
Alice tried a curtsy and was proud of herself for not wobbling, even if it wasn’t a very elegant one.
The lady smiled. “Edgar. My how you’ve grown. And who is this beauty on your arm? Your fianc-”
“My jellybean,” Edgar’s eyes sparkled mischievously. “My very precious jellybean.”
Alice felt their cheeks flush and a little sting of disappointment in her eyes. But if Edgar didn’t want to say they were dating, then maybe there was a reason. So Alice just nodded along.
Lady Lucine didn’t even raise an eyebrow. “Oh what will you precious young people think of next?” She laughed. “Your jellybean is more than welcome to look at the books here. Everything is open to our guests, except the family quarters.”
“That’s really kind,” Alice replied gratefully.
“It’s no problem at all. I hope you find something you like. If you want, you can even take a book home and send it back when you finish. A lot of people borrow from our little library. We try to keep the collection up to date.” Lucine’s smile was proud.
Edgar chuckled. “Now you’re being almost too nice, my lady. I hope we won’t owe you any favors for such generosity.”
“Of course not.” Lucine blinked. “You sound almost like your uncle.”
“Speaking of, I wanted to say hello to Horace. It’s been awhile.” Edgar’s smile was polite and proper but something in Lucine’s gaze shifted and turned cold.
“Yes. I’m afraid he’s been quite indisposed since poor Claudius’ misfortune. If you do happen across him, please don’t mention it.”
Edgar nodded. “Of course I won’t. I’ve always been fond of Horace. I wouldn’t want to upset him at his own party.” He turned to Alice, “Why don’t you take a look around at the books. I’ll just be here.” He gestured to an empty couch.
“Are you sure?”
“I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t mean it, my sweet little jellybean.” He tapped their nose lightly.
Lucine smiled at them, some of the warmth coming back into her gaze. “It was lovely to meet you, jellybean, and to see you again. Edgar.” She headed off through another of the portals. There were several of them in the library too, spaced between the seating like standing picture frames.
Alice reluctantly left Edgar’s side to look at the shelves. She wanted to see what interesting things might be here - books in Cradle were much less common than in London, and they had so many interesting stories. Histories, legends, fairytales, and folktales that were stranger and more fantastic than the ones from home. It was hard to pass up such an offer. And Edgar looked comfortable enough where he was resting on the couch, a glass of some bright blue alcohol in hand.
The books were every bit as interesting as Alice suspected they would be, and after a little while, she came away with three slim leather bound volumes. But when she went to show Edgar, he was gone.
Alice felt a moment of panic but she knew Edgar would never just abandon her somewhere. He must have been called off. Maybe he ran into Horace or someone else he knew. She sat down to wait for him. It was tempting to crack open a book, but Alice felt a little nervous about Edgar being gone so she just kept watch, sipping from a glass of lemonade a server handed to her.
She waited and waited some more. But after two lemonades and still no Edgar, Alice set the books down and went looking for him. The first portal she chose took her to a garden. People were playing some sort of game, blindfolded and running around a hedge maze. It looked like fun, but no Edgar.
The second portal Alice picked popped her into a dancehall with loud, fast paced music. Someone grabbed her hand and spun her into the dance and for a moment, all Alice could do was keep up. The person dancing with them let go when Alice tugged her hand back. Careful to avoid any more of the dancers, Alice picked an out of the way portal half-hidden in a corner. This one took her to a nondescript hallway.
The hallway wasn’t festive at all. It looked business-like and dreary. No music, no decorations, and the only magic was the lamps that burned fitfully along the walls. Alice turned to go back the way she’d come, but the portal was gone.
“Great. No Edgar and now I’m lost.” She sighed, then headed down the corridor, looking for someone who might help her. Most of the doors she came across were locked, but one opened when Alice turned the handle.
The room beyond was dark, lit only by the glimmer of magic and moonlight that came through the windows. But in the shadows on the far side of the wall, Alice spotted movement. “H-hello? I’m lost. I got lost. And I need to know how to get back to the pa-”
A hand clamped over their mouth. A large, warm, familiar hand. “Shhhh, Alice. Someone will hear you and I promise, you don’t want that. Now if I let go, do you promise to be very quiet?” Edgar’s whisper tickled their ear.
Alice nodded.
“There’s my sweet jellybean.” He chuckled softly as he let go. “How did you end up here? I thought you were going to read?”
“And I thought you were going to wait for me.” Alice frowned at him.
Edgar shrugged. “I was, but you see, I needed to get back into the family quarters during the party. It seemed like a good time for it. But now you’re here so I suppose I should take you back and just try again another time.”
Alice thought he looked rather disappointed at that. “You don’t have to. I can help.”
“You don’t even know what I’m up to. What if it’s something bad?” Edgar raised an eyebrow.
“I trust you.”
His lips trembled for a moment, wavering between a teasing smile and some other more heartfelt expression. Then he hugged Alice close, wrapping his arms around her tightly. “You are too much sometimes, you know?”
“I know. And you’re wrinkling my clothes.” Alice teased, but held just as tight to him.
When he let go, it took Alice a moment to adjust again to being without his warmth and touch. Edgar seemed fine though, his face immediately reverting to its usual playful look.
“I am trying to find the hidden passage in this wall,” he told her. “I know from the information I have that it’s something to do with this mural. Pressing the leaves in the picture just so . . .”
Alice looked past him, squinting her eyes to make out the faint grey-on-grey of the painting in this dim light. It was some sort of forest scene, with birds and leaves and flowers. None of it looked like a secret door opening, but that was the point of it being secret, right? She stepped beside him and began feeling along the wall.
As she quickly, anxiously felt across every bit of the painted plaster, she would pause, breathless, as footsteps passed in the hallway beyond the door. She felt like they would be caught any moment. Her heartbeat pounded in her ears, and the whisper of her fingers across the wall seemed too loud. She just knew someone in the hall would hear them. Just after one such close call, Alice felt something click under their fingers.
“Edgar,” she whispered, “come here. I think I found it.” Alice pressed harder and the wall popped open with a soft whoosh. Behind the mural sat a shadowed staircase.
“Good job.” Edgar reached to pat her head and then thought better of it. Instead, he patted her shoulder, fingers lingering on the bit of bare skin beside her neck. “This is all so exciting, isn’t it? Knowing we might get caught any minute, finding hidden secrets . . .”
There was a heat in his eyes that made Alice shiver. It was pretty exciting but . . . “What happens if we get caught?”
“We won’t.” He grinned and took her by the hand. Together, they stepped into the wall and the door to the secret passage swung shut behind them.
The narrow, dark stairway led up and up and up. It felt like a very long way to climb, but eventually they found the top. Edgar and Alice paused, listening for any sound on the other side. The wall was cool against her cheek, though with Edgar so close she still felt flush with heat in her face. At least it was too dark in here for him to see.
After several breaths of nothing but silence, he opened the door and the two of them stepped into a room. It was a well appointed study with a desk and several cabinets. Edgar walked quickly to one and knelt down. He began to fiddle with the lock, and pulled a thin metal pick from his breast pocket.
Alice watched, curious. She’d never seen Edgar work like this before. It was interesting. He clearly knew what he was doing, his movements careful and precise. Edgar was so talented, always surprising her with some new tidbit of knowledge or skill. One of the many things she loved about him.
The cabinet opened with a click, and Edgar reached in, pulling out a cloth-covered ledger and a small notebook. The smile on his face was triumphant as he stood and shut the cabinet. “These are exactly what I -”
“Can’t believe his lordship wants me to dust the office. Like there’s not enough to do on a gala night.” A muttering voice came from the hidden staircase they’d used to get into the room.
Edgar and Alice cast about, looking for a good hiding spot. There wasn’t anything though. No big window curtains to hide behind, nothing to get under, and nowhere to go but back down the stairs or out the other door to the office.
Alice moved for the door, with Edgar a step behind. They sped out and quietly closed the door behind them. But they still weren’t safe. They could hear more people moving around up here. By the sound, probably staff. The steady jingle of keys and the sudsy thud of wash buckets and rags accompanied quiet chatter.
“We have to get back to the party,” Edgar whispered. He looked left and right along the hall. It was wide, with several open doors to the left and what looked like a staircase landing. To the right, there was a huge window that opened out onto a balcony. The stairs would probably lead down but they could hear someone coming out of one of the rooms between where they stood and the exit.
They had only seconds to make a decision. Edgar pulled Alice toward the balcony. “We’ll look like we came up for the view,” he told her “Ah, but the ledger . . .”
Alice snagged the book and notepad from his hands and tucked them into her clothes. That was one advantage to fancy dress. Lots of layers, folds, and gathers. It was super-easy to hide two little books. In fact, Alice was pretty sure she could have a whole platter of snacks slipped into her clothes and no one would be the wiser.
“Good thinking,” Edgar chuckled, and then pulled Alice close. He settled her on the balcony rail and kissed her neck, just beneath the ear, following the line of the jaw until he reached her lips.
While she knew this was just for show, the intimacy felt very real. Her body felt too warm, her pulse, too fast. She wanted him to stop and she wanted him to keep going. Her fingers twined in the fabric of his coat.
This was right about the amount of time it took for the staff to notice the two of them.
“Hey! You! This is the family wing! You can’t be here.” A large man carrying a broom hurried toward the balcony. He looked very displeased to see them there.
“So sorry,” Edgar replied, pulling back slightly from the kiss to look at the servant. “We needed a moment to ourselves, and the portals led here so we thought it was ok. To be honest with you though, I’m completely turned around. I wasn’t sure how we were going to make it back.”
“The portals brought you here? That’s not supposed to happen.” The man looked a little mollified. “Well, let me get you back to the party before anyone else catches you.” He shooed them away from the balcony.
Alice noted that despite his words, he looked them over carefully to make sure they had nothing with them. She felt a little anxious as the man examined her, but relaxed as his gaze shifted back to Edgar.
“I don’t suppose you could keep this to yourself? I’d hate to get anyone in trouble and it’s so embarrassing. Getting lost in someone’s house like this.” Edgar put on a wide-eyed look of innocent concern.
The man nodded. “Sure. I was supposed to keep a look out so it’d be better if neither of us mentions it.”
“Of course.” Edgar’s lips curled up at the edges. “We really appreciate your help.”
“Don’t mention it.” The man grimaced. He didn’t say much else as he led them back through a winding set of hallways, stairs, and finally portals. He left them in the music chamber with a frown and a final warning. “Stick to the party areas.”
Alice nodded, but her attention was already on the new room. Crystal formations grew in odd fluted columns from the floor here. Their surface trembled and shimmered, filling the air with strange disharmonic music. It was bizarre and enchanting. Alice might have liked to explore it more, but the documents in her clothes felt heavy, as if at any moment they might fall free and expose the two of them.
Edgar could sense her unease. He leaned forward and pressed a light kiss to Alice’s forehead. “We have to stay a little longer to allay suspicion. But don’t worry. By the time anyone realizes what is missing, we’ll be back safe in Red Headquarters. So let’s have a little more fun, alright?”
The words reassured Alice, but more than that, Edgar’s calm, cheerful expression told her there was nothing to worry about. She relaxed. “I hope when we get back, you’ll tell me what this was all about too.”
He ran his thumb across her lips gently, as if pressing a kiss to them. “I will. Because I trust you too.”
Alice felt her heart thud against her ribs, a tightening in her throat.
Edgar smiled gently at their expression. “Now now, keep making that face and I’ll have to take you back up to that balcony and have you all to myself. I can’t share that expression with anyone else. It makes me want to gobble you up.” He leaned forward until his cheek nearly touched hers. “Maybe I could have just a little nibble here? I could start with your ear?”
His breath ghosted along the sensitive curve of her earlobe. She almost said yes, but she knew he was just teasing. “You are so devilish sometimes!” Alice laughed.
“Only because you look so delicious.” Edgar sighed wistfully. “Now come on, let’s go enjoy this party, my tasty jellybean.”

Congrats on your finals! HCs for Edgar?
Thank you for the request ☆
Edgar & Wintertime
Edgar is always keeping an eye out for animals that may need his help. He knows winter can be a cruel, cold time for these adorable creatures, and he is so happy to take them in and make sure they have food & water.
You can find him sometimes in his room with some secret roommates. He’ll try denying that they’re there at all in the first place. He’ll finally acquiesce if the cat, or dog, or duck, pokes its head out to say hello. “It just followed me home, I had no choice.”
Edgar always observes proper gentlemanly etiquette when out with his lady. He’ll take bags from you, hold your hand in his pocket, and wipe stray snowflakes from your hair. He’s endlessly attentive.
He’s like a personal spotter for potentially harmful ice patches. He’ll lead you away from them with a proffered arm and smile.
Did anyone say street food? Because Edgar knows exactly where to get the best hot chocolate (that is, when he’s not making it for you himself). He’ll take you on a tour of Cradle’s most popular winter desserts as soon as it starts getting chilly.
“Let’s go on a date. Yes, another one. I want to show you something new.”
Always a tease, Edgar will never let an opportunity slip away to poke some fun at Jonah for how he gets cold so easily
You try to hold him back, but Jonah pouts anyway. This makes Edgar grin, just like the perfectly angelic devil he is.
While Edgar is a little sad that the lake has frozen over and he can’t go out on his boat, he’s content to sit beside the water with an arm around your shoulder. The scenery is so much more beautiful with his lady by his side.
Edgar’s favorite part of winter is snuggling close together while you do your own tasks. Just having your arms touching is enough to stave off any cold. And when that’s not enough... Edgar has more than one idea for how to keep you nice and hot.

Edgar x MC “Wanting To Know You”

She hurried through the kitchen doors, allowing them to sway shut behind her. Hands were grasping the edge of the countertop as she let the pounding in her head calm down.
The leftover scent from the freshly baked bread and roasted meats still hung in the deserted kitchen. The music from the room next door became too much, especially after Alice realized someone particular wasn’t going to be greeting her anytime soon. Alice gripped the counter harder before her mild headache seized.
She didn’t know why she cared so much about him stopping by to say ‘Hi.’ Edgar was always so nice to her. Lately, he seemed to be more curious, changing his goodwill intent into seeking more information about her. Going from normal greetings of ‘hello’ and ‘good morning’ to asking her how she slept, or how her day went.
It was a slight change, but it almost made him more distant. Edgar watched her from afar most of the time now, still asking to spend time with here but endlessly curious of what she was thinking and why she did things the way she did.
Tonight at the party where all the red army and their families were invited, Edger kept her at a distance. Every time she thought he was looking her way, she would look to see that he was just a few degrees off from her. Inwardly cursing herself, she kept asking why she even cared if he was looking at her.
With a deep breath, she leaned against the coolness of the granite countertop, trying to decompress. If she weren’t as equally curious as Edgar, wondering what he was thinking, then maybe the music wouldn’t have been too loud for her.
She had to confess to herself that she might be a little bit jealous. Watching Edgar schmooze and chat with his subordinates, seeing him greet their families and act kind towards everyone made her feel empty. Alice wanted attention from him, but couldn’t understand why of all the people in the red army, he stood out the most.
She filled her lungs then let out a long breath, rubbing the creases out of her forehead. The music changed in the other room, filling the kitchen gently with beautiful music at a much quieter rate. Alice could handle this decibel much better.
The door creaked behind her, causing her to jerk her head back. Alice was mildly disappointed she had to share the kitchen with someone else, but only for a moment until she realized who walked in.
“There you are.” Edger's sing-song voice filled the room. “I was looking all over for you.” He smiled wide, allowing the door to close quietly behind him.
Alice looked over at him through thick lashes, wondering why he bothered trying to find her. He cheeks heated up realizing they were finally alone together.
“You were looking for me?” She leaned her back against the counter.
“I was checking in. You disappeared suddenly and I was worried.”
Alice wondered if he had been looking at her all this time. Keeping tabs on where she was while keeping his distance for some reason. Edgar stopped right in front of Alice, taking a deep breath he looked down at her wide eyes.
“I just needed a little time to myself. There are a lot of people here tonight.” She grinned.
An air of hope blossomed around her as he closed the distance further. He offered his hand in a gentlemanly fashion with a slight bow.
“Alice, could I have this dance?”
A lump formed in her throat at his unexpected request. She hoped this wasn’t him just being nice since this was the most special anyone has ever made her feel. Edgar's fingers curled while he waited patiently for an answer.
“Why me? You can dance with anyone just beyond those doors.”
Edgar took another step forward, still holding his hand out. Her heart raced away in her chest at his proximity and the invitation of more.
“I wouldn't want to have this dance with anyone else but you.” His teal eyes glittered in the dim light of the kitchen, hope-filled plea behind his facade.
“Edgar, I’d love to dance with you.” Her small hand came up to his, lightly touching him for the first time.
He cracked a smile, fixing his posture while slowly bringing her hand off to the side. His other hand came up to rest on the small of her waist, smoothly guiding her towards the proper stance.
“I-in here?” She stammered, looking up at his gentle gaze.
“Yes, why not. We can hear the music just fine.”
The sound of string instruments wafted through the cracks in the door, slowly filling the room. Edgar took the first step, guiding her into a simple action.
“I was thinking about you, and I couldn’t find you anywhere in the ballroom.” He confessed, taking the first turn around the kitchen island.
“You think about me?” Her cheeks dusted in rosy pink, biting her lip.
Edgar’s face lit up with a broad smile. Pulling her closer, he guided Alice in a circle as they danced alone.
“Often.”
She swore his cheeks turned a shade darker as they took another spin around the large kitchen. Her feet fumbled over the tile as her skin warmed up.
“How often?”
Alice’s dress swayed behind her as their steps perfectly synced up in the popular dance. She couldn’t believe the moment they were having. Edgar was finally opening up to her, but why now?
“Oh,” He laughed like a chiming bell. “Alice, You are stuck in my mind always. Everything I think about tends to lead to you. Every action I take seems to have you in mind some way.”
Her face lit up, her body relaxing against his the longer they spoke. He looked down at the floor, then back to her with a renewed smile before continuing.
“My goal every day is to make you happy in some way. I think I succeed, or at least, I hope I do. Would you say I meet my goal?” His white teeth sparkled, guiding her in perfect time with the beat of the song.
“You do,” She smiled wide. The disbelief of this situation still hung in the air. “I think of you too… Often.”
Edgar swallowed thickly, then his eyes crinkled.
“Does that mean we are both fond of each other and yet, we’ve been keeping it all to ourselves?” He burst out in laughter, and Alice couldn’t tell if he was genuinely happy or nervous. Maybe it was both.
His laugh was contagious, making Alice join him in the mild insanity. Her heart swelled with happiness and hope thinking of Edgar now. His hand guided her closer as the song changed to a tamer tempo.
They began a slower dance, her body melting against his. Alice rested her head on his shoulder with a jolly smile on her face.
“Alice,” He whispered into her hair, slowing his footwork to an idle pace.
They stood in one spot, hugging one another as their hips swayed back and forth.
“Hm?” She breathed, nuzzling her head further into his neck.
“Do you think you would like to spend the evening with me tomorrow?” His quiet voice wavered sending Alice's heart into a frenzy.
“Like,” She took a deep breath, moving her hands over his back. “Like a date?”
She couldn't believe what had transpired tonight. It was hard for her to admit that she was pining after this man for so long, disguising it as an unnatural curiosity. However, his parallel feelings allowed for her heart to open up to the possibility of something more.
“Yes, exactly like that.”
