I was wondering if anyone knows how the new airline regulations regarding prohibited items, specifically some very small knifes, are being reported by medias around the country? Most media and politicians in Quebec are focusing on kirpans, trying to ignite hysteria & they are pushing the old anti-accommodements raisonnables rhetoric–they successfully convinced people reasonable accommodation were a big problem a few years ago. Are things as bad outside of Quebec? :/
This is what the English Canadian media is reporting on this topic:

🔸️I Hunt Killers Book Review🔸️ I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga is a fun and dark YA novel about a teenager whose father is the most infamous serial killer known to man. Now, with his dad behind bars and his aunt raising him, he struggles to block the "lessons" his father gave him in killing; instead, using the insight to catch criminals. This is a series, but I've only read up to book two. This book is definitely a fun read, though it is reminiscent of a Hannibal Lector/Clarice relationship. Additionally, if you've ever seen the show Prodigal Son, this book is like a high school version of that! ° ° ° Rating: 🍂🍂🍂/5 ° ° ° #authorscommunity #authorsofinstagram #authorslife #authorssupportingauthors #bookstagram #bookcommunity #readingcommunity #creativity #storytelling #writerscommunity #writersnetwork #writersofig #readersofig #bookpost #writersofinstagram #writerslife #writer #writing #writingadvice #writingcraft #writinginspiration #writingprocess #ihuntkillers #barrylyga #yanovels #yamystery #prodigalson https://www.instagram.com/p/CkuQz-HL1rb/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I listened to the audiobook version and really enjoyed it. The story is a creepy, fast-paced mystery told from the point of view of the son of an infamous serial killer. In spite of the subject matter, there are some humorous moments as well which give the story some levity and balance. The characters are interesting, too. The ending was a bit abrupt with a huge cliffhanger, so I am tracking down book #2 in the series right away. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 #ihuntkillers #barrylyga (at Gray, Louisiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bntzue8lg9Z/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ch3j7y63lz6t

“'Listen closely. If you can contact my father, I want you to send him a message for me. I want you to tell him that I'm on to him. That I'm hunting him. Tell him that I'm using every trick he ever taught me, that I won't rest until I've run him to ground. And tell him this too: He once said that I was already a killer, I just hadn't killed anyone yet.' 'Well, tell him that once I catch him...I will.'” -Jasper Dent (Barry Lyga, I Hunt Killers)

From my Newsletter: I Hunt Killers Tidbits
Tumblr media
This month, we’re back to some tidbits from the I Hunt Killers vault! Originally, the Impressionist was called the Finger. Because, well, he was cutting off people’s fingers. But then my editor pointed out that a killer called the Finger might be unintentionally humorous because of, you know, the finger. Around the same time she said this, I was already considering the artistic school of impressionism and the nature of copycat killers. It was a pretty seamless transition from the Finger to the Impressionist, and I like to think that I would have gotten there even without her gentle nudge, but who knows? In any event, in the two bits below, “the Finger” refers to the serial killer later known as the Impressionist... First up, Jazz talking to G. William... "We think it’s the Finger.” “Just because he took a trophy? There have been four Finger copycats—“ “And they all took their trophies post-mortem.” “You mean...this guy took his while the victim was still alive?” “Yeah.” Jazz couldn’t help it — he shivered for just a moment, hoping that G. William wouldn’t notice. Or that if he did, he would think the shiver came from revulsion or disgust, not from the sudden, magical moment of imagining the spurt — the absolute gush — of blood that would follow severing a finger from a still living, breathing human being. The pain would be...exquisite.And then another moment in the conversation, as Jazz and G. William discuss the actual methodology... “There’s a contusion on the back of the head. Like with the other victims.” “He knocks them out.” “Yeah. Figure it’s easier to cut off the finger if the victim’s unconscious.” Jazz shivered. No. “No,” he said. “That’s not what he does. He knocks them out for some other reason. Maybe to incapacitate them. But he cuts off the finger while they’re awake.” “How do you figure?” “That’s why he does it. It’s not just the gush of blood. It’s the look in their eyes. The expression on their faces. The terror. The screams. The anguish. There’s no other reason to do it, G. William. The blood’s not enough. Might as well do it post-mortem. It’s the look. It’s the fear.” “You sure about this?” G. William’s eyes had narrowed and he was trying to hide his concern, but that was impossible to hide from Jazz. Jazz pretended not to notice. “I’m sure. That’s what drives him.”(This piece comes from my newsletter, which goes out monthly. For more stuff like this, and to get it first, sign up here!) I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga My rating: 5 of 5 stars SOOOO according to Instagram, I bought this book 51 weeks ago.... but just now read it. Ooopppsss.... But I can explain. It was on clearance, I read the inside flap, it sounded awesome, so I bought it. But at the time, none of my friends had read it, so it didn't seem super important since I hadn't heard much about it from people I trust. So it just sat there. Then recently, some friends read and LOVED it. SO I finally picked this glorious book up.

Also, can I just keep talking about this cover for a minute?? OMG. Why cant more hardbacks be so wonderful under the jacket???

I cant explain how happy I am to have read this. It was right up my alley. I have some strange obsession with serial killers and the gruesomeness involved. Its so intriguing, and I just wonder what is going in the minds of serial killers. I go to sleep watching ID (Investigation Discovery)! My husband and friends think I am crazy and a freak, lol, but I dont care. I wondered if I should have been an FBI profiler. But this book just fit everything that intrigues me about serial killers. I loved so a lot about this book. Lets talk about these things I loved: 1. Jasper "Jazz" Dent - love him. He is such an interesting character, and he is trying so damn hard to prove himself. GAH I just loved his character. Its so easy to want to just keep reading about him. 2. The crime scenes - they were very detailed and totally gory. Also, very well thought out. The author clearly did a lot of research! I love gory details. 3. The Impressionist - that was a puzzle. Well, I saw part of it coming, but it was still intriguing, to the very end. I love that we got some of his perspective now and then. 4. Jazz's friends - I LOVE Howie. He is adorkable. I like Connie too. But what I like most is that they both stood by him and supported him, even though he was "the serial killers son". I think they kept Jazz grounded, showed him who he truly is, and that was a beautiful thing. 5. The way the book played out like a perfect thriller movie. OMG a movie would be the best. Or TV show. I dont care. I just need this to happen. I could really go on and on, but I feel like this is getting a little long. Overall, I loved the gritty, gory, mess of it all, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. The pace was great, everything moved along so wonderfully. I cant wait to read the others, and spend more time with JAZZ (who is definitely added to my bad boys to obsess over list). And now we have a whole new set of crimes to solve... I highly recommend this book to people who enjoy crime and psychological thrillers! View all my reviews
