I was thinking, and I came up with a Kaiju No. 8 couple, and it will not leave my head:

Hakua Igararshi and Aoi Kaguragi

I initially thought it was funny for one of the tallest people in the series (Aoi) be with someone just a little bit taller than him. As I kept thinking about them, I realized they'd have an interesting dynamic as a couple. Hakua being a cheery uber friendly gal and Aoi being a stone-cold stoic and militaristic guy.

I'm curious about what you think of it (no pressure to like it/respond, I'm just interested in your thoughts)

Hakua x Aoi, hmm...? Well...

It's hard to feel much about it one way other the other!

Poor Hakua hasn't had a single ounce of character development, which is a real shame because there's an interesting contrast to be made between her and Vice Captain Hoshina. They both have older siblings serving as captains, but unlike Hoshina, Hakua seems to get on very well with her big sister and doesn't have any feelings of resentment or inadequacy that we've seen. It could've been a great opportunity to put Hakua on Hoshina's radar for very unique reasons compared to the rest of the team that would have added so much to her character!!

But alas. None of that.

As for Aoi... I just find him so, so......

boring.

I'm sorry! I'm sorry!! Character design, personality, plot relevance... he just does absolutely nothing for me. Objectively I know he's a nice guy, and I do appreciate the comradery he's shown in caring for his teammates. I like how he appears stoic and mean but is overall a nice guy. But! He's just so dry!!!

However, I like to try and see the logic in various pairings even if they don't appeal to me specifically. Just how would these two work?

I definitely agree that it would be fun to see him bouncing off the high-energy Hakua!! That would solve a lot of the issues I have with Aoi ^^;;; The fact that Hakua is even taller than him is great as well, since it would lend well to them teaming up for sparring sessions and the like. Even better if she can actually overpower him.

And if you want to dig deeper, there's is further material to work with.

Aoi (and Haruichi) were sent to train with the 2nd Division after all - you know, the one Hakua's big sis is running! So it would be cute if they checked up on each other through her - how is Hakua holding up in the 3rd Division? Is Aoi pulling his weight over there?? It'd be especially funny if Jura is on a call with Hakua only to pass the phone over to Aoi after she gets sick of them asking about one another.

"Just date already! Captain's orders!!"

They may not appeal to my personal tastes much, but there are ways to make it happen ^^
