POV: You work for/with Dracula

There's only one episode out right now but it has become my current form of brain rot I love it so much

Had so much fun trying out new brushes, researching visual references, and rendering them! I think this was the first piece where I used more than 20 references for as well (probably 50 especially for Lady Godwin's design ;D) and honestly the most fun part was designing their outfits!

Brother Philo (or Filo..?) with of course his robe. Mutt's outfit was also simple in design, but I really wanted his fur coat to give off this soft yet rugged vibe to it. I also actually looked up Sam Elliot for references per Travis' description haha

And then there's Lady Elizabeth Godwin. Oh WOW. I had a blast with this one. When she asked for clothes, I imagined Igor making an outfit for her based off any scraps he had in his lab. I also found a pic of a Victorian theatre actress wearing a guard costume with material that looked like chainmail. I'd imagine Godwin would wear something like that as some form of armor while trying to still look somewhat fancy :)

balanchine’s “jewels”

“the ballet had nothing to do with jewels. the dancers are just dressed like jewels.” — george balanchine

considered the first full length abstract ballet, jewels consists of three acts: emeralds, rubies, and diamonds.

each jewel has a different choreographic technique, costuming style, and composer assigned. all costumes are designed by the renowned designer, barbara karinska.

first, is emeralds, in the elegant and romantic french style, wearing long green tutus and intricate bodices, with composition by gabriel fauré. the middle act is rubies, in the flamboyant and acrobatic neoclassical style, dancers clad in vibrant red ensembles inspired by the american jazz movement, with composition by igor stravinsky. finally, comes diamonds, in the classic and precise russian technique, donning majestic and pristine white tutus, with composition by pyotr ilyich tchaikovsky.

jewels was inspired by the collection of new york city jeweler claude arpels, which balanchine had admired. pearls, black diamonds, and sapphires were also considered for additional or replacement acts, but ultimately balanchine settled on the renowned triptych of acts known today — because in his opinion, those gems were too difficult to stage.

jewels premiered on thursday, april 13th, 1967, at the then new york state theatre on the upper west side of manhattan. the roles were ultimately choreographed for the abilities of the original starring cast — emeralds featured mimi paul and violette verdy, rubies with patricia mcbride, patricia neary, and edward villella, and diamonds closed with a pas de deux between suzanne farrell and jaques d’amboise.

the choreography, costuming, and music come together to create a ballet akin to a concerto or set of modern paintings. with no set plot, the idea of different jewels only serves to connect the three acts of drastically different styles of dance, costuming, and music. the meaning can be interpreted to be anything the viewer desires. ultimately, it is a display of great achievement by the artists of the new york city ballet, and a pinnacle of balanchine’s intricate choreographic standard.

I've had this sitting in a Google Doc for a while, I've just been too lazy to post it

(Mementos Mission Manga Scene Spoiler warning)

So while Unapologetically spoiling myself on Persona 5 content, I came across a Manga Spinoff called Mementos Mission. There's a scene where Akira (Protagonist’s name in the Manga canon is Akira Kurusu), teams up with Akechi on an investigation and he's advised to come in disguise and Akira’s version of disguise is “Oh, I just happened to have a female cop uniform in my wardrobe, along with curly hair extensions, lipstick and makeup. I'll wear that.” 

Akechi reacts like most people would, and after recovering from a laughing fit, questions what the heck he's wearing. 

And Akira is so nonchalant about it “You said to come in disguise and this is what I had on hand 🤷‍♀️.” 

The outfit is also available as a DLC costume pack in Persona 5 Dancing In Starlight. 

Point is, Akiren canonically crossdresses and has no issue with it. 

So what if he willingly wears a wedding dress to an Akeshu/ShuAke wedding scenario? 

Originally, the Wedding Dress option was just supposed to be plan B. If for some reason the Metaverse proves to be too dangerous to hold the wedding and they're forced to have it in the real world, Akira could just crossdress as a female and take the role of The Bride. 

Luckily Metaverse Wedding is manageable enough. During the private dressing process the Girls took it upon themselves to play Bridal Boutique for Akiren. 

Fast-forward to the Wedding. Akechi is waiting at the altar, Grim Reaper officiating (it was originally supposed to be Yaldabaoth but Grim showed up and it seemed letting him be a part of the ceremony was the only way not to get K.O.ed by him). Random assortment of shadows sitting in the crowd that the group managed to convince threaten to attend. Sophia is playing the role of the pipe organ, humming a wedding tune. Ryuji is one of Akiren’s best men, Yusuke is busy in the role of Wedding photographer—-um, “Artist”. Since cameras don't work in the Metaverse, Yusuke has to hand photograph the moments by painting them which he is more than enthusiastic about, this man is going to paint the most detailed works of art ever, who needs a silly camera? 

Morgana is on ring bearer duty. unfortunately since Sojiro can't enter the Metaverse, Cop PeePaw Zenkichi Is playing the role of “father that gets to walk Akiren down the aisle” 

Jose is the flower boy. 

Sumire is one of the girls not playing “Bridal Boutique” and is instead one of Akechi's best—-women? She felt bad for him barely having any Bests on his side so she insisted. The rest of Akechi's Bests entourage consists of docile cognitive beings of Sae Niijima, and a couple of his agents. 

Since fashion isn't her area of expertise, Futaba also willingly opted out of playing Wedding Boutique and stood next to Ryuji in Akiren’s Bests line up, along with Lavenza. 

Akechi didn't have anyone close to walk him down the Aisle. Shido was an obvious no go. “Absolutely Mcfucking Never In This Lifetime Or In Hell, Docile Cognitive puppet version or not” - in Akechi's own words. 

So Igor happily decided to fill that void. The long nosed hunchback was an unsettling sight for Akechi but Akiren reassured he's a decent dude. 

The moment comes, doors swing open for the second Groom to reveal—-

Akiren in full wedding dress and veil, hair extensions to further sell the feminine look, along with black lipstick. He's wearing a casual warm smile, absolute zero sense of shame in this man. 

Zenkichi and Ryuji do double takes, Futaba bursts out in a fit of cackles.

Behind Akiren, the girls, minus Futaba and Sumire, stand behind him, all with varying expressions from defeated, embarrassed, and holding in laughter.

“For the record, we didn't force him to wear this. Once we managed to convince him that wearing his Shujin school uniform is not appropriate attire to get married, he suggested a wedding dress. Despite us explaining it's not necessary and a Tuxedo will do just fine, he was already picking out dress options, so we just went along with it.”

“He also pulled black lipstick and curly black hair extensions out of his pocket and ominously claimed “My time has come.” He wouldn't give us an answer as to where he got them from, I can only assume they've been in his pocket all day.” 

Akechi just lets out a defeated sigh, and facepalms. Oh, that's right. His soon to be husband is a fucking dumbass

It all started three weeks ago when I was invited to a Halloween party by my friend Madi. I thought it would be fun, innocent, and a good time to socialize. But of course not it’s always something when I wanna have fun.

“What are you dressed up as again?”

“That one bitch from subway surfers”

Nick then bursted out laughing and because I thought his laugh was so dramatic I ended up laughing too. We had laughed for a good 30 seconds before Matt walked up to us. “Hey wo- what the fuck nick?! You stole my costume!”

“I wore it better” Nick always had then intimidating voice. It scared me sometimes “what?! Y/n who wore the costume better?” “You both look like dumbasses” they both then turned to me with the most shocked look on their faces as if I’m the problem now “bitch how?!” “Huh?!”

“Well for starters” I started to argue “you’re both GROWN ASS men dressed up as woody. And not only that you’re both fighting over who looks better as if you both didn’t buy the EXACT same costume kit. It’s kinda embarrassing.” And of course they both rolled their eyes.

“I feel insulted so I’m gonna go talk to Madi because she actually knows how to be nice” Nick then walked away and left me with Matt.

“What a dick right?” “I’m not saying you look better than him.” “Dammit.”

A few hours later I ended up hella drunk and stumbling around. “Woah dude” I looked up and noticed Matt looking down at me with a huge look of concern “what?” I had slurred my words “you wanna go upstairs or something?” “Uhh sure”

Now that me and Matt are upstairs we went to an empty guest room and sat on the bed that was in there. “So…” “I’m still not saying you look better than Nick!” “Why not!?” “Because this is stupid” I laughed throughout my words. Luckily Matt started laughing too “whatever dude! I know I look better than him! And if not tonight then every other day i definitely do!” “Okay dude sure” “cmon you can’t even lie!” We had made eye contact. I then noticed him scooting closer to me. He got closer and closer and closer until he ended up kissing me for 30 seconds. I then pushed him off of me and gave him a look that an angry grandma would give you if you broke her heart. “Dude what the fuck?! Why would you kiss me?!” I then rubbed my lips as if I was trying to kiss him.

“I thought you wanted to.” “WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT?!” “We made eye contact! That’s what usually happens” “where?! Romance movies” “well…yeah! But it also works in real life!” I then groaned out stormed out of the room. Even In my drunken state I would NEVER take advantage of someone like that so why did Matt do that?! And I knew he was sober because he never drinks. I couldn’t believe him

When I arrived downstairs I had seen people looking at me. I guess they heard what happened upstairs “y/n what’s going on? “”What happened?” “Where’s Matt?” Were all things I heard. And unsurprisingly nobody was concerned about me! Only Matt as always. It’s like I wanted to be mad at everyone else but I was only mad at myself for letting myself get drunk AND being in a room alone with a guy like Matt. Sure he was one my bestfriends but he’s also a dick sometimes.

I ended up leaving the party and walking to my dorm room that I shared with Madi.

Now it’s been three weeks and I’ve been distancing myself from Matt, Nick, and Chris. I even forced Madi to not talk about me infront of them incase they’d forgotten about me. Did I HAVE to do all of this? No. Did I NEED to do all of this? No. did I WANT to do all of this? Yes.

But of course the universe hates me so I ended up being seen by Matt anyways. “Y/n?” My head instantly shot up. Fuck. “Yeah…?” “Where have you been? I was worried sick about you!” “I don’t know.” “Bullshit.” “What?!” “You know I can tell when you’re lying right” well that’s what I get for being friends with a man. “Were you avoiding me?!” “Maybe.” “Why?!” “Because I don’t wanna look at you! You made things awkward” “how?! What did I do?” “You kissed me!” “Oh my god! You’re still stuck on that?!” “Yes because i wanna know why you did it!” And of course he walked away.

CSI (Halloween edition)

It's the grave shift Halloween party (as organised by Hodges, of course), what costumes have the team chosen?

- Grissom: despite many attempts of getting out of it, decided to go as William Kirby (also known as "The Father of Entomology"). He didn't put too much effort into his costume, a simple coat and bow tie, and although he tried to deny it, kind of enjoyed the party.

- Catherine: Catwoman or Wonder Woman

- Nick: Zombie Cowboy

- Warrick: classic horror movie villain e.g. Freddy Kreuger (he grew up watching all of the classic horror films, even if he was too young to)

- Greg: (early season) stereotypical 00s goth (later season Greg) Peaky Blinders-esque gang/mod member

- Sara: butterfly (definitely no connection to Grissoms costume... nothing over the top, just some simple wings and maybe a little masquerade-esque mask)

- Morgan: fairy (again, just some cute wings and a little dress)

- Hodges: would want to do a duo costume with Grissom (Sherlock and Watson, obviously) but after Grissom says no, he just decides to go... as Grissom

- Brass: cop (no costume, just shows up in his suit and badge)

- Doc Robbins and Dave: Dr Frankenstein and Igor (or generic Mad Doctor and patient/victim)

- Henry, Wendy, Archie and Mandy: Ghostbusters (Wendy would be Venkman and somehow I feel Henry would end up as one of the Ghosts, specifically the marshmallow man)

- Russell: literally just a dead body (... a D.B), he would tie a tag around his wrist and either Finn or Caitlin would do some face paint to make him look "dead"

- Finn: pirate (sexy pirate, of course, i don't know why, it just feels right)

as someone who is also interested in making a persona au but is struggling, how do you decide on the more persona specific stuff? like, how do you decide on stuff like who’s which social link, what personas they have, costumes (if they have any in your au) and stuff like that? it’d be nice to hear about someone else’s thought process;;

SO! starting with general advice that will apply even outside of persona aus: the thing is that none of the assignments will ever be perfect. the inherent nature of ANY au like this is that different people will have different character opinions; for example, i'm sure there are people vehemently think my social link assignments should be different! and that's fine; your goal isn't "perfect, immutable fit", your goal is "it fits to the story i'm trying to tell". like, in general,

with that ALSO said: you shouldn't try to shove characters perfectly into roles from other things, either. two different characters will have two different reactions to Situations, and you should take advantage of that, too! it's like... the role you give a character WILL shape them, but the character will shape that role, too.

with that out of the way: specific persona au thoughts!

first, you are going to want to decide who your team will eventually be; persona squads normally start out with around three guys and end up at seven or eight (with the eighth man often being an odd-one-out). I went “the cherry blossom hill gang” in my au, which was easy, but you may have less simple ideas there! also keep in mind that you will, at least, have protagonist/healer/physical damage/magical damage as the four “basic” in-game archetypes, with persona also typically having a “balanced” guy who does both, a status setter, an instakill guy, and a party buffs guy, spread across its guys. so if that helps you here, excellent! you will also need at least one of the main party to be a navigator.

you will also want some idea of the “themes” of your au because it’ll help you out deciding personas and social links, plus a little plot.

so, first: each persona game has a “theme” for the main party personas. 3 is all greek legendary figures that evolve to greek gods (with lucia prior to ultimate personas breaking theme, and kala-nemi and messiah breaking theme with the ultimate personas). 4 is all japanese gods that evolve to another name of those same gods (with chie breaking theme in that her ultimate persona has nothing to do with her original one). 5 is all legendary rogues/thieves that evolve to trickster gods (with necronomicon breaking theme and frankly milady is a STRETCH for the starter personas, and astarte and anat being questionable for the ultimates). as the like… MANY caveats show, you don’t have to be perfectly on-theme, but having a theme at least in mind helps a lot with picking what persona everyone gets by narrowing the pool! for my au, is went “famous lovers”, since a major “theme” of my au is “isolation versus bonds”. however, you don’t have to stick to something with thematic relevance, you just want something that helps tie everyone together a little bit.

as for weapons, what elements they attack with, what their party role is like: that’s a personality call, you know? and don’t be afraid to get a little weird with it, we aren’t atlus, we CAN break character archetype.

as for social links: that’s indeed tricky! it can help to remember you don’t ACTUALLY need to come up with 22. the world/the universe is ALWAYS only the protagonists final persona. the fool is ALWAYS a plot-driven social link that effectively represents “the protagonist’s relationship with the plot”, with p3/4 making that the team, and p5 making that igor. judgement is ALWAYS a plot-driven social link that represents the protagonist at the end of their journey; in p3/4 it’s the team at the end of the plot once they know their true purpose, and in p5 it’s sae nijima as she interrogates the protagonist. so that cuts out three arcana already to be set aside as “this is for the plot”.

next, while I know this isn’t true of p3, it makes sense from our own writing perspective where our story is NOT constrained by “gameplay dictates a social link can happen at any time” to make each member of the team a social link. fill out the rest with additional canon characters.

but how to decide which character goes in which link? helpfully, this is persona: it tends to have a little less to do with personality and more to do with storyline. you can go by “what character fits the tarot symbolism best”—doc as the tower, jimmy as the hanged man—or “what character fits the normal persona character archetype for this arcana”—skizz as chariot, mumbo as moon. you can also go for a mix! if you don’t KNOW what kind of character normally fills an archetype, the megami tensei wiki has pages for each arcana that describes the typical character archetype that goes there. you can also break type as needed—joe is hermit in my au despite “hermit” not really being his persona character archetype for very specific plot/tarot reasons, for example, and impulse is emperor, but is breaking persona type by being a healer rather than a heavy physical attacker. it’s your au, have fun with it!

also, ultimately, know that because it’s your au to have fun with, if you DON’T have fun giving everyone an arcana, just pick out the ones that are relevant to the part you’re writing and ignore the rest until they come up. this is my tactic for worldbuilding in like half the aus I write it hasn’t steered me wrong yet.
