i think it’s so interesting that jumong and so seono never really... regained that spark after marrying. like maybe it’s an issue with the actors, it’s possible they didn’t have enough chemistry, but i think what they had was enough when they were in love in the first part of the show... and then it burned out because they’d changed, and married other people, as situations forced them apart, and then together again

like i always believed they loved each other! i don’t really think it was a romantic love when their marriage came around -- they were many things, comrades, friends, rulers. but their time together came and went, even if they both admitted they were happiest together in their youth... that’s not now! that’s not the present! they had fundamentally changed too much, and that history they shared... it made their bond permanent, but it oddly wasn’t a romantic one?

those fifteen years they spend together as rulers.... just didn’t rekindle their love... in one way it’s sad, but in another, it’s.. idk. understandable? they had different priorities even if their goals were united for a time

(ig the show had to be true to history, but i do think it would have been an interesting situation had a jumong/so seono child been born... would she have taken her children and left then??? well, it would have complicated matters for sure.)

but it does feel true that jumong would watch her leave from afar, and lets her go, it’s just. it’s kind of not the same romantic angst as it was the first time around -- bc he loved ye soya!!!! he loved his son yuri!!! he hadn’t seen them for 18 years!!! and finally he’s reunited with them! but he did care for so seono, and they were happy together as co rulers.

and so them parting, and so seono going on to found baekje was sad. but both understood why it had to happen. to prevent treason and political conflict, but still... it was -- it was essentially a win/win, and maybe the best decision, but somehow it still feels like a loss bc they were friends and nobody wished anyone any ill on each other. (okay piryu did, but in fairness, teen feelings and strugglign to make sense of things is allowed in my books! a lil bit of treason plotting is an okay first time mistake especially when his great-aunt manipulated him into doing it!)

but still. i liked them.
