I have had to pick up two loose dogs this last week (one of which it was too late and the dog was deceased). Neither dogs had tags or microchip. The one owner eventually found one of my multiple postings and they were able to reunite. The other I have not been able to find any postings for and I do not know if I'll ever be able to notify the owner of the fate of their dog.

Even if you think "not my pet" remember it can happen to ANYONE due to any circumstance.

i watched the first episode of canine intervention tonight, here’s some uncensored liveblogging featuring my spicey dog training takes:

“my dog training system is known all over the world" mhmm. lemme google this guy.

by clicking through his in person training site to his online remote training course, i found a whole lot of big red flags: "Establish pack leadership" dogs don't have pack leaders. anyone who wants to make you a leader is not using a good understanding of dog behavior "Time your praise and corrections" the times when i use corrections are when i'm the least on my game. my goal is NEVER to use corrections/positive punishment. why should i? it's concerning that he uses it as a core part of his method. "Exercise and reinforce your leadership as a way of life" more leadership bullshit.

fancy letters are not the end-all-be-all, and there are trainers i seriously respect who have none of them. but they don't talk about leadership and corrections. it's concerning that he talks about his sports team as a kid, where he went to high school, and his celebrity clients, but not his mentors and education in training.

why does his facility have enough dogs to keep them in kennels? how does that teach aggressive dogs how to be safe in a home environment?

not all of the dogs in the first shot of a class (~1:38) have two collars on but a lot do. that's not a red flag (i worked sydney in two collars [her flat collar and a martingale, because syd was very gear smart and it was nice to tell her that we were doing heeling now]) but with what i saw on his website? it's quite likely that one of those is the dog's normal flat collar with tags, and the other is a prong, choke chain, or electric collar

also: "I help the dogs that no one else will" is a flat out lie

if you're willing to take on any human aggression cases, generally you’re willing to take on all of them. now, some of these cases may generally lead to a recommendation of euthanasia. but that's in the best interests of the dog and owner

here's two points not about this guy specifically: 1) it is hard (impossible?) to do humane, ethical dog training in a 45 minute episode slot. it's not good tv. it's slow as hell. there's no drama. the aggression trainers i know? have never been bitten. many have never been CLOSE to being bitten. no tv value. 2) the positive dog training community is OVERWHELMINGLY white and middle class.

it's also full of racists.

"Nearly a million dogs are euthanized yearly and over 40% of them are pit bulls" i've calculated that first statistic myself, but it's important to put it in context: this is USA specific, and that's down from 3-4 million 20 years ago. the second one, i would love to see his source.

he's right that it's important to understand where aggression comes from

anyway back to those two points, at the same time that it's really, really hard to do compelling TV with ethical dog trainers, it's also really REALLY important that the positive dog training community be working on being anti-racist. and it's really, really important that low income dog owners and people of color are getting good dog training.

alright first case! he's had her 3 months, 3 bites in that time. 10 attempted attacks. she's a young adult bully breed mix who had one front leg amputated after being shot. owner walks her in a muzzle which is a) too small and b) not bite proof.

"I see what we're working with" he says, after approaching a dog in her crate. hazard responds similarly to someone coming in, but he's not a bite risk. that's not a good evaluation.

he is correct about lady macbeth's motivations: this is a dog who's scared as hell and making herself really big and scary so that everyone leaves her alone.

okay he's also right that playing with her around strangers is really, really good for fear aggression

reality check for y'all: i am not an aggression specialist and i have seen more freaked out dogs

she was on edge! she was unhappy! but holy shit was she not even remotely close to what dogs are capable of

"she just bit me!" she nipped your cheek, not breaking skin. that's a level 1 or 2 (of 6). that's not NOTHING but it's well within normal for a dog who's being restrained when she wants to be somewhere else.

[note that at no point in the episode was the owner ever given any sort of indication that lady macbeth is not this horribly aggressive Pit Bull TM. nor was there any discussion of a bite scale.]

"The only option we're gonna have is to [board and train] for 3 weeks" "I have no choice but to take her back to my facility back in San Jose and work daily with her" no!!!!!

also funky that we're 19 minutes into the episode about an aggressive bully breed mix and the trainer's childhood bully breed mix who killed a dog, and like. not a single mention of what these dogs were bred for.

let's go back to "how are you teaching aggressive dogs to live nicely in a home, if they are spending most of the day in a wire kennel"

for shits take, high school doesn't teach you how to handle your emotions! why should obedience class teach your dog the same?

you've got a dog on her side with one hand over her, the other on a skinny check chain on her neck. every time she does anything but lay flat, the leash is popped and you say no. you are flooding this dog and creating learned helplessness.

Real name: Dr. Robert Bruce Banner, Ph.D..

Single or taken: Single, and this probably isn't going to change anytime soon. He has a number of ingrained emotional issues, and ideological issues that pertain to his condition, that prevent him from seeking romantic relationships and even just becoming close to someone. One-night stands are possible, because they don’t involve emotional commitment from either party, but real relationships scare the hell out of him. The closer that someone gets to Bruce, the more he fears hurting them or being hurt himself.

Abilities or powers: He has an extremely high IQ, almost unprecedented intuition when it comes to the sciences and its numerous technologies, and a great ability to think outside the box and solve complicated, confounding problems. Also, he can turn big and green, which makes him capable of inhuman physical feats and gives him a ridiculous healing factor. This cannot be understated; he can literally recover from decapitation if the conditions are right. It's debatable whether these qualify as gifts or curses, because of the experiences they've created for Bruce in the past, but they're definitely abilities at the least.

Pets: In The Persistence, he owns a white knockout mouse named Eddie, who came from a selection of ailing lab mice that he experimented on with the Hulk's plasma. He doesn’t have pets in other verses, though he wouldn’t mind a cat, or a dog with a calm and mellow demeanour, as long as his living situation and overall routine is constant and undisturbed. Otherwise, it will never be a possibility. Back when General Ross' squad broke down his door in Brazil, he needed to abandon a mutt named Rick, and it hurt because he’d become very fond of him. He doesn't want to do this to another animal.

Hobbies or activities: He loves hiking and jogging (with trails in forested areas being his preferred location), cooking and baking, gardening, reading textbooks and science journalism, bait fishing, programming and experimenting, travelling, sightseeing, meditation, yoga, collecting and listening to vinyl records, and being a rebel by listening to police scanners and going after bad guys if he doesn't have much else to do. But seriously, these animals just want to walk around eating ants, minding their own business. They don’t have a bone to pick with anyone... Which is also similar to Bruce. And did I mention that pangolins are endangered, because they're frequently hunted and trapped by humans for their supposed “beneficial properties” in medicine (none of which are proven)? That's similar to how Banner has been followed all over the place by the U.S. military, just because they perceived his condition to be useful somehow.

Worst habits: Take your pick. Distancing himself from other people even when he could use the company, self-flagellation, humouring his guilt complex even when he's not responsible for certain negative outcomes, repressing or suppressing his emotions when he needs to express them (or the opposite, staying as the Hulk so he can stew in those strong emotions and therefore punish himself for whatever he “did wrong”), running away from connections that involve real commitment, especially romantic ones.

Role models: Steve Rogers for his patriotism and overall sense of morality, Neils Bohr for his defense of the Bohr atomic model (which had been a radical theory for the time) and subsequent successes, Ernest Rutherford for similar reasons, and his mother when he was younger, though he doesn’t remember much about her because he was only six when she died. Same goes for his aunt, Susan; while he spent more time around her than Rebecca in total, he was rather emotionally absent by this point because of all the trauma earlier in his childhood. In general, his role models tend to be people who remain strong in the face of adversity and judgement, and stick to their values for the benefit of others. All the above people qualify in that sense, for different reasons.

Sexual orientation: Heterosexual.

Thoughts on marriage and kids: Nope, and bigger nope. He would love to have a close connection with someone, however much he's actually repressed the desire for the time being, and some part of him does want to have a child — however, he always concludes that it wouldn't be worth it. Bruce believes marriage would be a shackle for anyone who's unfortunate enough to become his partner, and it would open them up to potential threats from people who could use them to get to him and his condition. And children are a no-go because Bruce doesn’t want them to have a father like him; he might be absent for a lot of their upbringing, and either unstable or otherwise unaccommodating in temperament if he’s upset. And he'll constantly be trying to hide his condition from them as well, because god forbid they find out their father is a monster, and they feel like a freak because of it. He's been in a position where he felt like an anomaly as a child, and he's not interested in subjecting his children to this. He also loathes the idea of bringing children into the world because he would not be able to ensure their safety — after all, he can’t even ensure his own. So to Bruce, he'd be setting them up for endangerment just because they’re related to him, similar to how his partner would become a target as well.

Style preferences: Safe and conservative, and not flamboyant by any means. He usually sticks to warmer and neutral palettes, and cuts/styles that are classic and unlikely to fall out of style; this includes his suits, jackets, pants, and shirts. We're talking chinos and slacks, poplin dress shirts, wool sport coats and blazers. Most occasions will see him wearing the dress shirt, slacks, and sport coat together. If he's feeling more adventurous, he'll pair a sport coat with a crewneck, or he could even go with a polo shirt and jeans, but the latter is rare. In general, Bruce's most interesting piece is a brown leather bomber jacket, which he usually wears in the warmer months; colder weather will bring out a peacoat (and he loves to pop the collar in lieu of using a scarf). As far as cost goes, Bruce is fairly well-off between the royalties from S.H.I.E.L.D. and other work he's done here and there, but even so, he doesn't purchase outrageously expensive clothing and tends to go for the mid-upper brands. Approach to friendships: Cautious and uncertain about them, and tends not to approach people first, because he would hate to overstep his boundaries / make someone uncomfortable. This is the reason he shunned his friendship with Tony after they debated about the Sokovia Accords. Thoughts on pie: An acceptable desert. Bumbleberry, strawberry rhubarb, and pumpkin are his favourites. He prefers the homemade variety, and because of it, he tends to make his own, butter crust and all, avoiding store-bought unless it’s particularly memorable — or if someone buys a slice for him. He’s appreciative like that.

Favourite place to spend time: Somewhere he can guarantee that he's not being watched; these are most commonly his labs in the Northwind Observatory, quiet and secluded trails, or his chambers in the Crown City citadel on Sakaar. Not only do these locations ease his anxieties about being studied, inspected, or followed, but he feels less of a pressure to put on false pretenses and exhaust himself with social niceties, many of which may be fabricated. He doesn’t need much external stimulation, because he’s fine simply turning inward and thinking, without paying much attention to his surroundings, but he’ll certainly admit to spending a ton of time tinkering with pet projects if he’s in the labs. Obviously, Bruce prefers to be alone in most of these cases. But if he's with someone he cares about, whether a friend or a romantic partner, and can openly express himself around them, that's nice for him too.

Swim in the lake or ocean: Lakes, without question. He has some bad memories of being in the ocean, whether it’s about the time he was tossing and turning in glacial waters after his failed suicide attempt, or clawing his way out of a quinjet that crashed into the water while his alter started to take over. Bruce remembers all that, and it's not pleasant. The openness of oceans perturb him as well; lakes are usually far more intimate and amniotic because they’re often surrounded by forests, which allows him to feel safer and less exposed.

Their type: Someone who is, and is comfortable with showing, some semblance of dependence on him, which would placate his need to fill a provider role and not simply be a charity case; he's had enough of that between begging on the streets and asking Tony Stark for boarding. (This doesn't mean he's looking for someone who's a total pushover, cannot make their own decisions, or is emotionally needy, because those would make him run in the other direction, frankly.) Someone who can hold their own and stand up for their beliefs when necessary. Someone who can challenge him intellectually, though not necessarily in an academic sense; it really just depends on how much they can expand his own perspective by giving their own. Someone who really understands his needs and issues. And obviously, someone who isn't scared of his condition, because it's going to manifest a lot. It needs to; he doesn't really have a choice in the matter. Hulk is another story, but fortunately, he doesn't show up enough to really be an immediate concern, and Bruce and his partner can cross that bridge when they reach it. Physically, he's usually attracted to women who are slightly shorter than him; their hair can be anything from blonde to brown, and he prefers body types that are similar to his own; more on the slender side but not necessarily fragile.

Camping or indoors: He’d rather be indoors. He isn’t extremely fond of camping, if we’re using the most common definition of "pitching a tent, cooking with a fire made from sticks and tinder, and spending the night in the woods with the bears and the bugs". There are indeed occasions where he cannot stand to be indoors, whether because he’s feeling claustrophobic (a common symptom of abstaining a little too long from transformations), or he simply needs some time away from other people in the geographic sense, but in those cases, he’s more likely to go for a walk or hike, not set up an entire campsite and spend the rest of the night outdoors. For him, camping is meant for a survival-type situation rather than a recreational one. The closest thing to camping he'll do is living in a cabin with a wood stove and local water supply, which he’s done a few times over the years. He's even purchased a few cabins by the time his Persistence verse rolls around, so if one of the properties are compromised, he could always retreat to another one.

Feisty little fox and the Trickster

A/N: Yey! My first ever try in writing a fan fic. <3 this is inspired by a cute little arctic fox I saw on my feed :3

SUMMARY: You're a shifter living alone in the northern part of the globe living your life peacefully and in isolation from the people that doesn’t understand what you are when a beautiful black haired man suddenly trespassed your home and your heart with a sudden connection.

After going to your usual run around the snow covered field you went back to your cabin and saw an intruder. A lovely man with long black hair and an intoxicating smell.

You growl at him when you saw him sitting on your couch feet up your coffee table. You just cleaned that table! You showed him your snarling face, the scariest your white little body can make. That got his attention and he turn toward you on the open door.

"What a beautiful creature you are, Little fox." He said with the most sensual voice you've ever heard, eyes full of awe. If you’re on your human form you might have gasp on how alluring his voice are. “Is this your home? I’m sorry for intruding I just needed a little rest before I go on destroying your pathetic planet.” He said smiling evilly at you.

You became alert by what he said. Is he not from earth? He talk like he’s not and what!?? He’s going to destroy it? Is he serious? Or just insane? The cold sometimes does that to people.

You again snarled when he suddenly stood up and started walking towards you. Getting alert of what he might do you tried to run away but you felt like you’re being held still. An unknown energy is stopping you from moving from where you stand facing away from your cabin’s door and from the man.

“Little fox, where do you think you’re going?” He said sounding closer and that’s when you felt two strong cold hand lifted you up. You tried to struggle but the invisible energy is still there.

What the fuck is going on!? You said on your head. Your heart beating wildly on your chest when he started petting your white fur.

The calming and soothing sensation confused you. You started to purr on every stroke of his large hand making your eyes heavy, you’re starting to get sleepy when you suddenly felt the invisible energy holding you disappear.

As quick as you can you jumped out from his lap and towards the other side of the room. You started snarling and showing him you fang to scare him but it doesn’t seems to work. He just laugh at you.

“Feisty little fox.” He said. “Should I just kill you? What are you even be doing in a house in this isolated place? Do you have an owner? This house doesn’t seems abandoned.” He said walking around your home. Checking things touching them.

“G-go away!” you said firmly after deciding you need to be on your human form to make this trespasser leave you home. You saw his back became stiff from hearing a voice knowing that he’s alone and is only talking to a little feisty fox he found amusing.

He turned to your direction. “Oh, what do we have here? It seems that the little fox is not just a simple cute little fox after all.” He smirked. “Now I know why I am drawn to you.” He said biting his lips.

His sexiness stole the air from you lungs. He’s just so alluring to your eyes and his scent…his scent itself makes you feel dizzy from want.

“L-leave my cabin! How dare you enter other people’s home and act so high and mighty.” You said your voice hard, eyes angry but your heart…it’s already to the point of hurting. Seeing this stranger awakens your longing to be with someone.

“Indeed a feisty little fox.” He said walking towards you. You started backing more towards the corner where you’ve put yourself to be on the safe distance from him.

“W-what are you doing? Don’t go near me!” You shouted, well aware how you are naked behind your long (Y/H/C) hair and arms.

“You intrigue me.” He said still walking towards you. You conjure your fangs and your eyes turning into a blue orb half shifting to be able to have weapon in case he started to attack. You heard him gasp and his eyes lovingly took in your appearance. “I have never seen such beauty.” He said not showing any signs of being scared of how you look.

“I said leave!” You snarled your voice deeper than usual.

“I cannot do that little fox. Now that you have captured my attention you are mine now. Such beautiful creature. Oh the things I’ll do to tame such spirit” He said only few steps away from you. Not liking the effect his word to your body you attacked him. Aiming for his neck for a deadly bite but suddenly he’s not in front of you and you stumbled toward the couch.

Snarling you turned your head side to side to see where he went but he’s nowhere to be found. Confused you tried to stand when a heavy weight pushed you back down two strong hand held your arms steady.

“Now I got you where I want you, little fox” he whispered his voice so near your ears. His intoxicating smell making your head swirl.

“Let go!” you said looking on the side you fangs ready to bite him if given the chance. You tried to struggle from his grip but he’s not bulging it only made you skin tingle from his hands that is holding you down.

“Hmm, continue that little struggling you’re doing pet.” He growled and suddenly he’s raining kisses on your naked back. Your head is getting light and your breathing rugged. All these feeling he’s making you feel are all foreign to you being alone almost the rest of your life. He continue raining hot kisses going up from the middle of your back up to your nape. Goosebumps form on your skin your eyes closing from the intense feelings. “You taste so good.” He said. The only response you’re able to give is a rugged breathe hiding your face on the couch from embarrassment.

You’re liking what he’s doing to you and it’s scaring you to the point that with all the strength you can give and the fact that he lower down his hold on you, you twisted your body and pushed him down the floor making him lay on his back with you straddling him and holding his arms up your claws digging on his wrist drawing blood.

“What are you doing!? What are you making me feel! H-how dare you!” you said your deep voice shaking. You are having mix emotion from all this and the annoying man just smirked at you. “Stop smirking!” You demanded because it’s making you weak.

“You see my little fox, I don’t know what this is but a certain attraction is making me crave you and you being naked in front of me is not helping.” He said. His voice breathless and you also saw uncertainty in his eyes. That made you loosen your grip on his wrist, your claws returning back to normal and so are your fangs and eyes.

“I-I feel it too…what is this?” you said your voice now back to a more feminine and smooth one. You touch you beating heart with your blood covered right hand. “My heart ache from this. Make it go away!” You said, your voice shaking.

“Oh my little fox.” He said pushing himself into a sitting position with you still in his lap. “I don’t know what this is too but somehow I am brought to you and since laying my eyes on your beautiful fox form you have bewitched me.” He snaked his arms on your waist removing even an inch of a distance between your bodies. You gasp because suddenly you can feel cold smooth skin touching yours.

Looking down you saw that the cloths he was wearing are now gone. He’s as naked as you are and it made your cheek heat up.

“Look at me little fox.” He said tilting your head up making you look at his eyes and you being a shy girl made sure that your eyes won’t meet his. “Shy, aren’t we?” he chuckle, it sounded lovely to you and slowly you moved your eyes to meet him.

“I-I don’t know you…” you said shyly. Every second spend in his embrace made you accept him and his touch. “Why am I having this feelings…I don’t even know you…” you said your tone scared and uncertain.

He brushed his hand on your cheek making you lean on it more. It feels wonderful…his touch. You thought.

“My little feisty fox, I am Loki of Asgard.” He said, his tone proud and firm. “I am burdened with glorious purpose…and I want you.” He said and a grip on your nape crashed your lips on his.

You moaned on how lovely he taste.

It was indeed intoxicating and you want more of him. After nipping on his lips you liked it and smiled at him.

“You taste as delicious as your scent.” You said. “I-I have never been like this. I have never been with anyone.”

“Oh darling…I will take care of you. You will not regret this.” And he carried you towards your couch kissing you more as he walked. Oh this is such a wonderful feeling and you want it to never stop. You thought as he lay you on you couch him above you.

His kisses went down from your lips to your neck. He bit on your collar and you whimpered. Your core tightening with need and lower…and lower he go until his face is right in the center of your legs. So near to your wet cunt.

The anticipation made you bit your lips, eyes expecting and the handsome brut is teasing you. He smiled that smile that looks like he is going to do something wicked.

“You were right,” Yoongi murmured, studying the broken tracking device. “It was transmitting when they pulled it out.”

“Should have reversed the signal to find where it was transmitting to,” You murmured, biting your lip.

The boys all froze, looking up at you and then groaning in realization.

“Tiwaz, you and I should try and put it back together.” Yoongi sat down and pulled the pieced so they were sitting in front of him.

“I’ll get the tools.”

Jin stopped Joon, and pushed it from Yoongi. “Stop. There are easier ways.”

“Yeah, can’t we just ask a technopath that attends to fix it?” Hoseok asked, petting Jimin (who was in puppy form).

“Y-yeah…yeah that works…” Namjoon looked sheepishly away.

Jin pet his hair with a bit of a smirk. “Come on, Yoongi, put the pieces in a box and we’ll head down to the tech-lab.”

“This is why we keep you around,” Jungkook whispered in your ear, arms wrapping around you from behind.

“Sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees, and other times you can’t see the trees for the forest,” You summarized. “I know. Breaking the tracker doesn’t do much as it is, they’ll still be able to track it to here.”

“Right,” He murmured, resting his chin on your head. “Tae should be awake soon.”

As if on queue, Tae bounded into the room and looked at the tracker and bullet jacket that it had been hiding in. “Cooooool!”

“Not cool,” Jimin corrected, shifting and hugging onto the other. “Dangerous.”

Tae patted Jimin’s head, but was fixated on the device. “What are we doing with it?”

“They’re going to get it fixed so we can back-trace it and make sure no one else is being traced,” Jungkook explained as Yoongi took the box and closed it.

Tae nodded and then grinned at you. “Feel better?”

You nodded back. “I managed to sleep a little.”

He pecked your lips. “Good. Has anyone checked on Zephyros?”

“I did earlier. He, Soobin, and Beomgyu are leading games with some of the other kids. Another of the students was helping.” You left out the part where he asked you to find out if there was anyone left from the temple. You knew they would try to stop you from going to investigate. You weren’t about to be stopped. You needed to know, and they needed to start infiltrating and knocking down the Oasis Initiative instead of worrying about you. And you needed a job to keep yourself from worrying about them. It would be simple reconnaissance. Nothing dangerous.

“You’re plotting something,” Jimin whispered, taking Jungkook’s place. “You’re far away, and worried, but in a different way.”

You hummed in response.

“You’re trouble. You know I can’t let you do anything alone. I’ll just have to glue myself to your side.” He grinned up at you and then turned into a red panda and then clung onto you, climbing carefully up so that he was wrapped around your shoulder and upper arm.

You looked down at him, words failing you at his cute face. “You, my love, are far too adorable.”

He nuzzled up to you, getting a little smaller so that he wouldn’t hurt you.

You figured that was as good a sign as any that he would be coming with you on your little reconnaissance mission. You stroked his tail as you headed for the room the young boys were staying in.

They were coming from the opposite direction, but bowed slightly in greeting.

“Zephyros, are you ready?”

He glanced at the other two, then nodded. “Yes, miss. Um…”

“We’re blending in.”

“You can borrow some of my clothes,” Soobin told the younger boy.

Zephyros nodded and went into the room after you gestured for him to get ready.

Jimin’s tail wrapped around your neck, asking a question.

“Mind wearing a collar, and shifting into a dog, love?” You whispered.

A low growl came from his throat and he hopped off your shoulder, shifting back into human form. “You’re going out?”

“It’s nothing dangerous, but there are clues that I could see that others wouldn’t. Nadya knows I would come and look for myself,” You argued. “I cannot sit by and do nothing. I’ll go mad.”

He looked conflicted. “The baby.”

“Will be fine. It’s simple reconnaissance. Zephyros will be with me, and if you want to come, you will too. Do you honestly think anything bad can happen to me with you there to protect me?” You asked, placing your hands on his cheeks.

“First sign of danger you go into your archives.”

“Of course,” You agreed. “Please, my gorgeous, handsome, strong man?”

“Are you buttering me up?”

“Is it working?” You asked, wrapping your arms around his neck and blinking up at him flirtatiously.

He looked back at you, then made an indignant sound and looked away. “Aish. You’re too cute for words.”

You nuzzled up to his cheek, pressing little kitten kisses to his cheeks as he tried to resist you.

“Fine, okay, you win. Just stop looking at me like that,” He caught your lips in a kiss to stop you from flirting.

You giggled, enjoying the happy little moment, but pulling away to a decent distance as Zephyros came back out, the other two following to the doorway.

“I’m ready, miss Nightingale.”

“I have the perception filters, and a transport super waiting downstairs.” You switched to business mode, handing both him and Jimin perception filter devices.

“You only have two?” Jimin looked worried.

“I don’t need one,” You replied, humming the alteration song you and Yoongi had figured out. “I can feed off of yours.”

He nodded, then you all hopped into the elevator.

“We stay under the radar, if you see someone you recognize, then you tell us. Don’t go running off. We’ll want to be sure that they are who they appear to be,” You instructed Zephyros.

He nodded, glancing nervously at Jimin.

“I’m just here to make sure she stays safe. She has a tendency to jump into the thick of things, then get dropped off the side of the building, effectively almost killing herself and then disappearing and making us worry for a year.”

Zephyros looked at you with something akin to alarm.

“One time. Our first bad guy together. Special circumstances. And I didn’t make all of you worry.”

“Only because you took him with you!” Jimin protested.

You rolled your eyes and folded your arms.

The doors opened again and you walked out and down the hall to where the transport super was waiting.

You showed her a picture. “Here.”

She nodded and opened a portal.

The three of you stepped through the portal, into an inconspicuous back alley.

“This way,” You said, heading toward the ruins.

No one seemed to notice you three coming out of the alley, everyone mostly preoccupied by looking at the ruins of the temple.

Zephyros shifted closer to you. “It’s really gone.”

You rubbed his back. “I’m sure everyone is safe. Nadya and the other priests and priestesses of the temple would protect them.”

He nodded as well, still fixated on the ruins.

“Look around, Zephyros,” Jimin instructed. “Anyone look familiar. Anything look out of place?”

He took a breath, then looked at the faces. There were still emergency vehicles parked outside, and some people getting medical attention.

He looked around and then glanced at you and started walking forward when you nodded to him.

Jimin touched your arm and signaled that he was going to go check something out.

You nodded and followed Zephyros over to the fence. You hummed slightly, looking around for any sign that Nadya may have left.

“Those boys over there, sleeping in the box, one of them looks like one of the other acolytes.” Zephyros glanced their way again. “My friend.”

“Name?”

“Taehyun,” He whispered.

You glanced toward Jimin, he was helping animal control, calming a cat that was trying to claw their eyes out. “Go over to Jimin, call him your brother. He’ll go with it. Any sort of secret that could would show whether it was him or not?”

“Ask him if the Lepus constellation is in the northern or southern sky.”

“Is there a correct answer?”

“No.”

“Okay, head over to Jimin.” You headed toward the people sleeping in boxes. The song you sang made people not want to see you, which made it doubly easy to pull a bag with some blankets from your non-dangerous storage. You handed them out, after altering your song ever so slightly, crouching beside the boy Zephyros had pointed out.

He was visibly shivering, though it wasn’t cold out, and he was obviously protecting the boy hidden inside the box. His gaze was on the ground, but you could tell he was aware of your presence. And he definitely had powers, the same for his friend.

“Must have been a long night, Taehyun. But my friend wants to know if the Lepus constellation is in the northern sky or the southern,” You whispered, wrapping a blanket around his shoulders.

“Kai?” He whispered, gaze shifting to your shoes.

“The boy next to you?”

“Friend,” He whispered.

“Is he hurt?”

“He got burnt, we were coming back.”

“Any other acolytes?” You asked, tucking the blanket around him, then peeking in the box, pulling another blanket from your bag.

“I don’t think so, the temple was already being burned when we got back. We were just getting some formula for a couple babies that were left at the temple.”

“Help me get your friend up. What’s his name?”

“Yeonjun.”

“Right,” You shifted closer to the boy in the box, “Yeonjun? We need to get you up and safe.”

He groaned softly, but was still completely out of it. Still hidden inside the box.

Taehyun touched your arm. “With the temple burnt, his protection is gone. He can’t be seen.”

You tilted your head, humming another melody that altered the perception of them and looking toward jimin and Zephyros.

Jimin caught your eye and they wandered over, crouching beside you. “Plan?”

“Sing us into an archive, then into the school. I set a point in the school where I know the melody fairly well, I should be able to open up to it.” You handed Taehyun a blanket. “Cover him.”

He nodded and went into the box, covering his friend and then carefully pulling him out.

Zephyros helped him.

“Are you sure about this?” Jimin asked, glancing around.

“Got a better idea? He’s too injured to move normally. I’ll have to come back to see if Nadya left me a message.” You closed your eyes and started humming, holding out your hands.

They were both grasped, and you heard Jimin instructing them to hold on tightly.

Then you were in one of your empty archives, one you hadn’t sealed with the artifact that Jungkook was holding.

Zephyros looked around in awe, holding onto the boy covered in a blanket.

You hummed queasily. “That cabinet over there has medical supplies. I need to rest, but I can treat his wounds.”

Taehyun carefully pulled the blanket from over the other boy’s head and horns.

The boy underneath was barely awake, glazed eyes glancing from Taehyun, to you.

“Yeonjun, my name is Nightingale. I’m going to treat your burns, then we’re going to go somewhere safer. Do you understand?” You asked gently, trying to meet his gaze to gauge his awareness.

He nodded slightly.

“Can’t Beomgyu-hyung heal him?” Zephyros asked quietly.

Jimin handed you the supplies. “If she’s admitting that she needs a break, it means it’s going to be a while before we can move again. We don’t want him in pain.”

You rolled your eyes. “I do know my limitations, thank you.”

“I’ll believe it when you act like it.”

“Can you two please not flirt?” Zephyros asked, making a face.

“Sorry,” You apologized, carefully moving Yeonjun’s clothing so you could treat the burns. “Habit.”

“This isn’t what I expected,” He said, changing the subject and looking around. “I didn’t expect your archive to look like this.”

“This is just one room. The archives are made up of multiple dimensional pockets that contain artifacts that I and my ancestors have stored—”

“Like Bernard Beufort?” Taehyung asked.

You looked at him sidelong for a moment. You could sense his power had something to do with time, but those were always the hardest to sense the exact nature of their powers.

He finally looked up and met your gaze, his one eye a star that glowed. “He is one of your ancestors, is he not?”

“He is, from—”

“France,” He said along with you, then his gaze dropped to the floor. “He studied under Jacqueline Torrent de Cavalier. You recently acquired one of his artifacts from a museum. And the night before that, you stole a different artifact from a company’s vault.”

“When you touch someone, you gain information about their past,” You guessed.

“Recent history. And their future. Sometimes. And not just people. Things. This place is scary. There’s no history at all. It’s like air.” He looked around nervously.

“But that’s not all, you can see. Taehyun…Mannaz, I don’t think we can take him to the school. It’s too dangerous. He’s too powerful.”

“We can’t leave him here.”

You closed your eyes. “I know someplace…we’ll take all five boys there and I’ll…I’ll stay there too. After I look for Nadya.” You opened your eyes and started working on the burns on Yeonjun’s leg. “I’ll go to the safehouse.”

“Where would Taehyun stay until we got the boys out?”

“I’d send him and Zephyros ahead to the safehouse. It’s far enough away that they should be safe.” You spread some of the salve onto the burns on Yeonjun’s arm. “I’ll have to be quick about investigating.”

“Alone with them?”

“You all are needed fighting the Oasis. They need to stay safe. And you…you all are going to need to be able to focus on the work at hand, knowing that I’m safe. Far away from the danger.”

“They’re not going to like that,” He whispered.

“I’m not either, but we’re short on options.”

“Why the other boys?”

“Because, for supers as young as they are, there is strength in numbers. You remember what it was like when you were their age. Beomgyu looks like he needs a door, and Soobin is about to be thrown into the thick of things anyway. Besides, I think Heuning Kai is already friends with them.” You smiled softly at Heuning Kai.

He smiled tightly, nodding confidently for the first time since he had first approached you in the Conservatory.

You hummed and a door appeared. “Mannaz, go with Huening Kai and get the other boys and their things. I’ll keep the door open as long as I can, but we don’t have time for explanations. Taehyun, in that cabinet over there is a rock. Pick it up. Ground yourself.” You took Yeonjun from Heuning Kai as carefully as you could.

Jimin frowned, but did as you instructed.

Taehyun sat with the rock beside you, running his fingers over the stone with his eyes closed.

Yeonjun was twitching a bit, but he seemed to be either asleep or passed out. You assumed passed out given the amount of pain he had to be in.

Jimin returned with the other three boys and their few things. “Okay, Tintin.”

You switched to humming a different door open. The one to your safest safe-house.

Beomgyu was lightly healing Yeonjun, enough to move him.

Jimin came over and picked Yeonjun up carefully. “Hurry, boys. Through the next doorway.”

They got up and you followed them to the doorway, watching until they were all in the house.

Jimin came hurrying back and closed the door, wrapping his arms around you as it disappeared behind him. “We can rest here until you’re at full strength again. Just rest.”

You laid your head on his shoulder and let the exhaustion overtake you.

No matter how well-trained your pet might be, you cannot guarantee that you will be able to control your dog under all circumstances. Some breeds, like Siberian Huskies, are bred to run, and will do so at the first opportunity. Keeping your dog on a leash is best for you, your dog and your community.

4. Dogs are social creatures that like to be with their families, which is why it is important for your dog to spend time indoors with you. While a fenced yard and dog house are both good ideas for your pet, they cannot replace the companionship of people. Give your dog a pleasant outdoor space, but don’t leave him out there alone for long periods of time.

Just gonna get this out of the way.

Okay, a few things before Adam probably dies and the fandom rejoices because I think we can all agree at this point. Adam is a bad character, morally and in the narrative itself.

That being said.

Adam is currently written to be a mess of the negative ex-lover tropes. (I seriously think the staff forgot that he’s suppose to be in his early twenties and Blake is still a minor)

He can’t even be called a villain anymore because not even the writers respect his character enough to be called a threat. Literally, it feels like the writers are trying their best to write him out of the show because by doing so it’ll write away any negative implications his character has on the theme of being a Fanus. 

The most present Adam, wants to murder Blake. Except that he’s taking a damn long time to do it, I guess because they wanted the allusion to a beast stalking their prey, but like, he could’ve just shot her on the train. His sword is also a gun after all. But I suppose a mecha fight isn’t enough, haveta finally deal with this character that no one likes, probably going to end up killing him because, I don’t know, metaphor for overcoming trauma. Except that’s not how it works, but I digress.

When in reality, it would be really simple to imply what built him up to be a fallen hero, villain,  dickhead.

It goes back to a quote from Adam’s character short, and one moment from Final Fantasy 13 it reminded me of. 

Warning, I’m going to talk about dark stuff, aligning with experimentation and slavery. If you’re not comfortable with that please do not read.  

This is what I think Adam’s story should’ve been set as. 

- Adam is from Atlus. We first see him as a child, at first uncertain to who this child is. They have a collar around their neck, and from behind a cage we see them look through the crack of a door, towards a red rose sitting on a desk. That’s all we get so far, just that he’d specifically from the place that we know does not treat Fanus well, from a time before the White Fang was an organization. 

From that we jump to when Adam already has the mask on, having a more lighter demeanor, reserved, but quick witted at times. He was Blake’s mentor so would be someone person who had experience in combat, and was the one who had been working alongside Gera and Kali to bring equality for Fanus. What his character short should have portrayed was someone who looked up to Gera as a father figure. Building up their relationship as something that Adam treasured though not outwardly as to keep his composure. 

We know nothing about Adam’s childhood, so it would be easy for him to find a sort of mentor figure in the leader of the White Fang. Vice Versa, Gera could’ve seen Adam as like a son, someone with great potential who could’ve led the White Fang should he decide to step down, something that Adam of the past should never wish to see. At that point, he would’ve not only been Blakes mentor, he would’ve been someone she looked up to as a Big Brother which makes more sense as to why Adam would care about Blake’s opinion. 

The moment Gera decides to leave the White Fang is when Adam is betrayed for the first time. At this point, the rise of aggression is triggering a response from the humans, fear. And it does seem to be effective more than Gera’s methods, something that Kali assures him of. When Adam confronts Gera, he’s furious, asking why he’s abandoning his fanus brothers and sisters, and Gera just looks at him in disappointment. Saying that fear isn’t the way to bring Fanus equality, and that their actions will just hinder the cause. But that doesn’t sit well with Adam, because right in front of him is a man who is running away from something he cannot control. So he asks, is it because you can’t control the White Fang, or because you can’t control me? 

Gera doesn’t respond instead just walking away from him, similar to how Blake leaves in the Black trailer. 

From then on, Adam is more aggressive and unrelenting. Everything that Gera taught him is thrown away as he becomes more self serving. It’s around this time that the White Fang adopts a similar kind of mask that Adam wears, signifying their transition to being a terrorist organization. He kills more, and just as before, has nothing but contempt for humanity. Yet throughout all of this, Blake is the only person who hasn’t abandoned him. She sided with him when her father left and is the only family he has left. So of course he’d lie to her, telling her that every action done in service towards spiting Gera was in service of their cause. At first she believes it, but isn’t fooled for long after that. 

Once she leaves, just like her father, all Adam has left is the White Fang. He places all his time into protecting that, his hatred for humanity bubbling up more as there comes a chance to eradicate a city populated with them. But when he sees her again, it triggers all the anger festering inside him. He blames her for abandoning him, thus he lashes out, demeaning and terrifying her. Because now this is not the person she knew and looked up to, this person is a monster. So then he traumatizes her and Yang, but can’t let go of his hatred towards people he once considered family. 

Once Blake returns to menagerie, Adam does call for their deaths. But he is more focused on making the Fanus the dominant race. His relationship to Hazel could’ve been interesting, if he’d acknowledge Hazel’s morality when it came to Sienna Kahn. That Hazel was just as complicit as he in the destruction of Becon, so why should another death matter to him. On the flip side Hazel making a jab of Adam supposedly garnering the loyalty of his followers, resulting in the betrayal of their own leader. Gera would’ve been hinted at as Adam would mention that every leader past betrayed their predecessor, so he would be no different. 

When the White Fang are call to destroy the tower in Haven, it practically kills Adam to see Gera and Blake standing against him. That the people he considered family are standing against him now. He blames both Blake and Gera for being weak hearted and abandoning the cause once they saw something they couldn’t control. This overwhelming of emotions makes him sloppy, but it takes Gera, Sun, and Blake to all take him down, however, he still escapes. 

During RWBY’s journey towards Atlus, we see that Adam is tracking Blake, not on a train, just tracking her. Once he gets her alone, he mocks how she’s not a true Fanus so long as she remain’s on the side of humans. That she preaches about equality of fanus yet does nothing to push back the injustice done to their people. He mocks her, saying that they’re alike, which she refutes, now fully seeing him as a monster. However Adam says was once just like her, that he believed in Gera’s peaceful methods, but ultimately they failed, just as she will. Pet or Service Dog, That is the Question – Part 1

Every week, it seems, a news channel will run a segment on so-called “fake service dogs”—otherwise known as, well, pets. These segments tend to turn into a tutorial on how to abuse the service dog system in the United States. And they provoke a knee-jerk reaction from many members of the public.

“There should be certification of these dogs!”

“We need tighter regulations on service dogs!”

“Why don’t handlers carry around ID cards that prove their dog is a service dog?”

“Real service dogs only come from programs; if we just eliminate owner-training, no one will be able to pass their pet off as a service dog!”

While these proposed solutions may sound good on their face, they are actually quite problematic. They are also directly opposed to the regulations and intentions put forward in the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Law: What defines a service dog

1.       The rights of people with disabilities are specially protected by both federal (the Americans with Disabilities Act) and state laws. For the purposes of this article, I will primarily focus on federal law, as it relates to service dogs.

2.       The ADA states that “a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability.  The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability.” This law is intentionally designed to provide the broadest possible protection for disabled people. It is important to note that the ADA does not require:

3.       A service dog to be trained by a program. Service dogs can be trained by anyone, including the disabled handler him or herself.

4.       A service dog to be a particular size or breed. Many service dog tasks don’t necessitate a large dog—small dogs can perform signal alert or seizure response tasks, for example, just as well or better than a large dog. Breed specific legislation does not apply to service dogs. A dog of any breed or mix who has the ability and aptitude for the work can be a service dog.

5.       Specific types of collars to be used on a service dog. Service dogs may work in whatever equipment a handler deems optimal, be that a flat buckle collar, check chain, prong collar, head collar, or any other piece of equipment.

6.       A service dog to wear any identifying vest, harness, or other markers. Some dogs wear harnesses as part of their job (such as a guide dog), and many wear vests as a courtesy to the general public and/or to signal the dog when it is work time. This is entirely up to the handler.

7.       The ADA also specifically notes that emotional support and companionship are not considered tasks. These are happy bonuses of having a service dog, but if these are all that the dog provides, that means the dog is a pet. No person, disabled or otherwise, has the right under federal law to bring a pet into no-pet areas.

The Law: The rights of businesses

In addition to being trained to mitigate their handler’s disability, a service dog also must be trained to behave professionally in public. The dog must also be leashed or tethered in some way unless that interferes with the dog’s ability to do a task. There is no written code of conduct or etiquette for service dogs, largely because each service dog’s job can vary so much from another’s. However, there are several behaviors that no service dog should ever engage in while working in public.

A business has the legal right (and, many handlers would say, the obligation) to have a dog removed from the premises if:

1.       The dog is out of control and the handler takes no steps to control it.

2.       The dog is not housebroken.

3.       The dog poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others.

It is important to note that all of these are behavioral requirements. These apply to all dogs. This means that regardless of who did the dog’s training, where it came from, whether the handler is obviously disabled, what kind of vest it is wearing, and so on, a dog who behaves in such a manner can and should be removed from the business.

Why is this so important? Because while training certifications, special patches, I.D. cards, and other such items of gear can be obtained by almost anyone, behavior cannot be faked. A pet will nearly always give itself away as such by behaving in ways no service dog would ever be permitted to do.

Businesses are also allowed to ask the handler two questions, if it’s not obvious what the service dog’s job is. Businesses can ask 1) if the dog is a service dog, and 2) what the dog is trained to do. This does not mean the business may pry into the details of the handler’s disability. Many handlers will be intentionally vague when asked the second question, especially if they have a psychiatric disability, since such disabilities often carry an unfortunate amount of social stigma. Once these questions have been answered appropriately, the business must allow the handler and dog access unless the dog misbehaves in one of the ways described above.

Unwritten Rules: Common service dog etiquette

The “rules” I’m about to list are not a point of universal agreement among handlers. And there are always exceptions to these rules, especially when a dog is engaged in a task.

Generally, a service dog should be focused on his handler and his job. He shouldn’t be sniffing merchandise excessively, or soliciting attention from strangers. He should ignore food as well as people trying to attract his attention.

Service dogs should keep “four on the floor,” unless it is unsafe for them to do so, or they need to do a task. For example, while it may be safe most of the time for a very small service dog to walk at heel like a large dog, in a thick crowd it is safer for the handler to carry or sling the dog. A service dog should stay under the table while in a restaurant, but if her handler starts to have a panic attack, it is perfectly acceptable for her to get up and perform deep pressure therapy while across her handler’s lap. Service dogs should not be sitting on restaurant chairs or booths, or riding in shopping carts.

Service dogs should not pull their handlers willy-nilly while on leash; even while pulling in harness, the dog should be well-controlled. This doesn’t mean that all service dogs must walk in a perfect heel. But generally, a service dog should move easily with the handler without pulling. Much of the time, a dog yanking its owner around is a pet. However, some service dogs have been taught to take charge in situations where their handler is unable to do so. If a handler becomes overwhelmed, the dog may have been taught to take her to a safe place or a specific person. This can sometimes look like the dog is pulling. It’s usually not too hard to tell the difference between a focused service dog taking her handler somewhere as a task, and a pet dog dragging his owner to whatever has captured his attention.

When encountering other dogs in public, service dogs should ignore them or be easily redirected away from them. Service dogs should not fixate on other dogs, or lunge, bark, or growl. Aggression is never acceptable in a service dog. It should be noted, though, that service dogs in training may have dog reactivity issues they are working on. A responsible handler will deal with the situation, either by refocusing the dog or moving him further away from whatever is causing the behavior. People with pets will often make excuses for or completely ignore behavior that is unacceptable in a working dog.

Every dog, including service dogs, will have bad days. No dog is perfectly behaved 100% of the time. And every handler either has had or will have that horrible day when they don’t know their service dog’s stomach is upset and they have a potty accident in a store. A good indicator of whether the dog is a working dog or a pet whose owner has dressed it up is how the handler responds to lapses in behavior. A service dog handler will address lapses in behavior immediately, while a person who has vested their pet will usually ignore or try to rationalize bad behavior.

Service dog handlers often tend to be their dogs’ harshest critics.
