I’ve followed you since 2020, through SWTOR and D&D and BG3. The imp trio are some of my favorite original characters by any creator. Your art style absolutely captivates me, and I love your sense of humor. I’ve really admired you as an artist and thought you were generally wonderful.

So seeing that you’ve been posting about Harry Potter up to the year 2023 absolutely breaks my heart. I know that you don’t owe your followers transparency about what other media you engage with, and that you’ve attempted to distance yourself from the franchise. But on the other hand, as a transgender person, I feel deeply torn. I genuinely want to keep following you, but the fact that you can still give any time or attention to that media and the person behind it just makes me feel awful.

I know that leaving behind a character you’ve invested years in wouldn’t be easy. But I really, sincerely hope that someday it will no longer be worth it. No matter how much you love a character, they’re not real, and the harm Rowling is doing with the platform you’ve helped give her is very real.

I absolutely, 100% in utter disdain about the fandom and that person. Heck, they supported the blue-white flag and i have zero tolerance for that (Palestine WILL be free). To say all love that I hade for the franchise died. (A lot of it was inconsistent and fucking awful anyway.)

and as you said; my characters are fictional, and in that regard what I did was to make a whole new worldbuilding of myself. And places my old OCs in there. (I hate the thought of using the old fandom, I really do. We are hating the same thing here). Was my world inspired by the 'original' world building? Yes. But does that mean I support them? Heck no. If anything, It is under my SPITE that want to STEAL the good ideas from there and make it my own. To my eyes they have lost the entireity of those rights and I will steal it for me and my friends. and mark my words and emphasize with the utter hatred: I WILL TWIST it to the thing that THAT person HATE THE MOST.

If you're curious, I have an entire world made to scratch. The only thing that is similar are just the 'houses' (which is to my knowledge, is a common thing in UK schools, but correct me if im wrong)

So fuck JKR really. I want them to go to the ground and to the bloody dust. Me and my friends in this RP are also sharing the same thoughts in this matter. We spite them, and we want just want to rip the good things out of their bloody, rotting hands.

LaDS random thoughts.

I've seen players saying that they can't see Zayne as a romantic interest cause he resembles or reminds them of their dads or older brothers that are involved in the medical field... Funnily enough, these players always tend to be Rafayel girlies in most cases, and I find it funny cause in my case is kinda like this but opposite places? Rafayel sometimes reminds me to my dad!

Like not only personality wise but also, my dad used to be quite the artist when I was a child. He was a musician and also painted, I remember seeing him paiting a whole ass scene of a guy holding a dying woman in his arms in one of the walls of our rooms, kinda like a greek sculpture style. I think to see him paiting was that inspired me as a kid to learn to draw, altho I have to admit that I've been quite inconsistent about it, especially cause these were always just hobbies and not something that we decided to take professionally; my two brothers dedicated themselves more to music, while I went to the art route just to pass time.

Anyway, the thing is that I've always had this thought in mind and my mom ended up confirming it lol. My family knows I play L&DS cause I have no shame and they hear me yap about it all the time (They don't even know the name of the game or how... Spicy it gets, however), and my mom knows how much I love Zayne, so one day I showed her the three guys (it was before Sylus debut) and asked her to rate their looks from 1 - 10; I showed her Zayne and she said "I give him 100!" (cause she knew he's my favorite ❤️), then I showed her Xavier and she said "80, he kinda looks childish" (he was wearing his hoodie tho, so I suppose for her he looked too young), then I showed her Rafayel and she said without a second thought "200! He looks cool!"

And I was like... "Really? He's your favorite?" She just shrugged her shoulders and said "He's the one I like how he looks like the most"

And listen, is not like Rafayel resembles to my dad physically... Maybe there are some slight similarities, especially with the hair (and I think that's kinda important lol) but I left it like that. After some time, the devs released the lastest outfits of the three guys (The outfits used for 4 stars cards and that were recently released with Sylus debut, I don't remember their names rn, sorry lol) I showed my mom their outfits because I was drooling for Zayne and asked her which one she liked the most. She said Zayne looked nice, Xavier looked like a prince but of course, she liked Rafayel the most, and I was surprised again and asked her if she was being serious, like the previous time, she didn't comment on Xavier but dismissed Zayne cause he looked like a "Mister or Sir" I don't know if these terms fit with what she meant to say tho, cause words in our native language are different, but what she meant to say is that he looked "Too old for her taste" and the way my jaw dropped... I literally told her "You're older than me! You should probably notice him more than me!" We laughed a lot.

At the end I told her that it was curious and funny how she always chose Rafayel cause out of all the guys, he's the one with the role of the artist; my mom laughed. It was probably his vibe, idk but it's clear for me that my mom has a type and if she were to play the game, she'd definitely be a Rafayel girlie ahaha.

To finish this story, unfortunately my parents divorced years ago, you know things irl are more complicated than games and even tho my dad shares some similarities with Rafayel, they're not exactly the same, they have a lot of differences too so It's not complicated for me to see Raf as someone different and not feel weird when I get cute messages from him, however, I think after this is easy to sense how unserious my parents are, no wonder why Zayne's seriousness got me wrapped around his finger since I first interacted with him xD

What this season lacked in pacing, it more than made up for in gusto, Bisexual Bridgertons, really powerful and satisfactory friendships, a ton of Bridgerton family interactions, and more than enough romance to keep me giggling and kicking my feet for days. Honestly, it might be my favourite season, for little to do with the main couple, everything to do with the drama and excitement and fun dialogue of it all. I do really keep enjoying this show!! Every part of Bridgerton is good after S1 LOOOOL. KEEP 'EM COMING BABY!

I would like to draw more but I find myself overthinking it and then losing motivation. So, I was wondering if you ever had a similar issue and if so what do you do to stay motivated and not overthink?

Really good question actually!

What nipped the overthinking for me was just completely dropping the planning stage of drawing. I don't put much thought into composition, colors, etc. I don't have any solid ideas of how I want things to look before I begin. Obligatory disclaimer that this is from my perspective as a hobbyist and therefore not practical for an aspiring professional, & this is gonna sound like BS but hear me out lol

Most of the time the only things I have in mind are 1. What character(s) I want to draw and 2. A vague idea of the atmosphere I want the finished product to convey. And "finished" can mean a lot of things -- a messy sketch can be finished, a fully rendered piece I spent an entire day could be finished. A common pitfall people fall into is having an impractically rigid idea of what a "finished" drawing is and subsequently what they want their art to look like, all the bells and whistles etc, when realistically your art is never going to look exactly how it did in your head. But is that really such a bad thing?

I guess the overarching concept is to just fall in love with the process and enjoy the journey rather than the destination. This obviously sounds easier than it is in reality, but imo people focus way too hard on what they're producing rather than how and why they're producing it. Other people loving what you draw and praising it is wonderful, but if you don't enjoy the process, what was the point? Drawing (and I would venture to say most other forms of art in general) becomes a chore with that mindset applied.

A lack of planning may very well mean you wind up drawing a lot of stuff that doesn't seem interesting, maybe haphazard, difficult to parse, etc, but this is all your perception. It's cliché, but there is always going to someone out there that adores something you think looks like a dumpster fire, and that applies to the things you draw too. Over time, just doing whatever you want and enjoying the process has this trickle effect that will improve your output. In the same vein, constantly overthinking will also inevitably trickles into your output. You can often tell when someone enjoyed the process of something they drew vs when it was just a slog for them to get through (at least relative to their other works).

I would venture to say that you could spend your entire life studying and could be the most technically knowledgeable person about illustration ever in the world, but if you don't genuinely love the process, your work will never be as good as it could be if you did.

If you finish something and think it looks like shit that's always a bummer, but if you had fun with it, I think that was time worth spending. I've said this before, but most of the time I only truly dislike something I've drawn when I spent any part of the process frustrated with how it was going. It's counterintuitive, but I really think that placing so much emphasis in how you want the finished product to look is what ultimately is going to make it look like shit to you.

All that being said, once you do get past that initial overthinking phase, you can start to get more specific with planning and whatnot. The key is to just stop holding onto the idea of what you want and allowing things to develop as you go. Your art will naturally improve this way since you're actually enjoying it. To me, that's what people mean when they say they can tell something was made with love.

Side note: Let go of the need to be consistent/have a developed style. Just let yourself be inconsistent. You don't need strict consistency unless you're like an animator who needs to keep characters on-model or something. Experimenting is not only way more fun, but leads to improvement and discovering new things to implement into your process/style at large.

Hello! I've been doing some long, hard thinking about my current commission offerings.

TL;DR:

I am doing away with my "standard" menu (headshot/halfbody/fullbody/etc.) in favor of more experimental work.

Effective June 1, my commissions will close completely, including the waitlist.

Below is a more elaborate explainer of why I'm doing this, and what I'll be doing next.

Introduction

Essentially, commissions have worn on me more and more as time goes on (which may be tangible if you ordered one recently and it took months). Part of me wondered if I was burned out on art in general, or it was just becoming less of a hobby for me, but that sentiment didn't feel quite right. After all, I could still get grabbed by a picture idea every now and again, which I would then crank out in one evening.

Was there some sort of difference between the pictures I could hammer out quickly vs. the ones I couldn't? Well, I wouldn't make a post about an investigation without already having a prime suspect.

My Art Style

When I first started drawing aliased, it was to quickly crank out panels for my forum adventures, mostly because I was using GIMP and didn't know anything about brush settings. I was way too frustrated with anti-aliased lines and how little I could make them look how I liked, so I retreated into something completely different.

It worked for a while, but as I became more comfortable with the style, I developed bad, perfectionistic habits (something I've already mentioned being A Problem I Have). I would tweak lineart at the pixel level, just because some stray bump or two bugged the hell out of me. I consider this one of the reasons my art output has slowed down.

Trying to embrace a "perfectly inconsistent," or "consistently imperfect" look as "my style" just created its own irony. For example, I will deliberately draw patterns and textures by hand, because it sticks out too strongly otherwise if I just paste it in. You can bump into this quickly enough by scrolling through my various character references.

I would love a world where all my OC references feel "current," but as it stands, I'm finding it increasingly hard to work on the remaining characters I want to draw while commissions are also an obligation. Taking a break from aliased character art commissions in order to work on aliased character art references is...just doing more of the same? It isn't a break.

In order to create breaks that actually feel like breaks, I have to compromise. ONE of these has to go home and change. My personal art gets priority here, and I still very much want my OCs to look consistent in their reference art, so...I need to find a more efficient way to draw for money that keeps my dysfunctional brain entertained.

The Long, Slow Realization

Back when I used GIMP, I tried the chalk brush on a whim and ended up quite liking it. The rough look helped me ignore what I would consider "imperfections" otherwise. However, perhaps because I had a comic or character references I wanted to keep consistent, I mostly considered it a fun oddity and nothing more.

More falling dominoes that would eventually lead to this post were my experimental style offerings that I introduced last year (at the time, I just offered it because I thought people may be interested in art that looked relatively unique), Art Fight (having to agonizingly obey "finished not perfect" because of the event deadline), and other gift art I did around this time (the reasoning being, it's gift art, they wouldn't mind if I used it to experiment).

Now that I use CSP and am no longer bound by webcomic obligations, I've been experimenting more with brush settings. Wouldn't you know it, most of my modern art of my original stories is no longer aliased. I go "off-model" deliberately, fuck around with layer settings and effects, and enjoy creating pieces just because I saw a cool tutorial, brush, or program I wanted to try. These are the types of pictures I mentioned I could crank out in one evening. Maybe they're not "formal," but I feel like they're the most "me."

With all this new experience swirling around in my head, I finally realized: Why am I not selling art I actually find fun to draw?!

The New Offerings

Currently, I'm leaning toward one style of illustration only, cheaper than the experimental style I offer presently, and "rougher" as a result. I want something equivalent to my '22 Art Fight output; something flashy, unique, and most importantly, quick to do.

The specifics are what I intend to figure out while I work through the queue. Here are some thoughts already rotating around in my brain:

Should I offer price "tiers" that roughly equate a level of "polish" (equivalent to sketch/flats/shading) or just go with one-price-fits-all?

Should I still offer sketches as a cheap alternative, or is that too confusing with my Ko-fi already sort of being that?

Should I offer specific pricing for bust/halfbody/fullbody/etc., or was that another symptom of why I had commission burnout before, and should be avoided?

Should I eschew all of the above and just offer one thing at one price (e.g. "give me $50 and I'll draw your OC" with no other choices for the buyer), or is that too intimidating?

And so on. The last option is currently what I'm vibing with the most, but it's definitely the most daring idea of the bunch, too. (& If you have any thoughts on this, let me know! I have so much more thinking to do.)

The Old Offerings (But New)

When I reopen, I would like to have as few options as possible. However, I have considered the possibility that an old offering would speak to me and I would add it to the new menu again. Here are some thoughts on those:

Icons have a pretty high chance of coming back.

I've always liked drawing faces and headshots the most. If I decide not to bring back headshot sketches, I could just roll it back into "icons" and instead offer colored sketchy headshots. This would be similar to the headshots I did for Art Fight, but...with colors.

Half/fullbodies would depend on how the new style goes.

This is elaborating on what I said in the previous section. While I'm sure my core audience (i.e., you) will be fine with a potentially spontaneous angle to my commissions, buyers I'm less familiar with might not be. I want to try "one price fits all," but if someone gives me shit about me drawing a bust when they were anticipating a fullbody, I might have to add options to specify this.

Regardless, the style would still be "experimental" either way--the composition is what's important about it (which is also why I feel like I can get away with one single price). If anything, I feel like forcing myself into the little boxes of "halfbody" and "fullbody" was partially what was stifling me. Like, when do I ever consciously decide to draw a halfbody of an OC? I don't. It feels very arbitrary, and I'd like to distance from it.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Character design is NEVER coming back!

I deeply appreciate those that did want a brand spanking new OC from me, but I've never considered myself to have a terribly strong design sense. They just kind of ended up being extra nervewracking to do because I had to design a character on top of drawing a fullbody. I will still take the final requests for these, but this is your absolute last chance for a Jovian Twelve™ Brand Original the Character.

What if I'm Already on Your Waitlist?

You don't have to do anything! I will get to you when I get to you. After June 1, I will close the waitlist, and whoever is on there will be able to have one of my old commission types, as promised. You can change your request anytime as long as I'm not currently drawing it!

Reminder that my waitlist is NOT "first come, first served;" I order it based on the complexity of what's wanted. Final Word

I know these long posts might not be terribly interesting to anyone that's not me, but I find it therapeutic to scrawl my thoughts out in text. Additionally, I'm over 30 years old and conclusions are still the hardest part in writing an essay. I can feel my writing style begin to devolve the closer I am to the end...

Digimon Hurricane Touchdown / Transcendent Evolution! The Golden Digimentals (2000)

This was weird...I didn't really like it. It was pretty at least?? Okay pretty might be an understatement, some scenes were aesthetic af. It was just the writing, pacing and inconsistencies in the animation that tanked it for me. I got so bored that I took an hour break 30 minutes in lol. I thought I'd be mad that they cut these movies (OVAs?) up for an American release, but now I'm thinking that might have been the right move...

Digimon introduced: Gummymon, Chocomon, Terriermon, Lopmon, Antylamon, Wendigomon, Gargomon, Kerpymon, Seraphimon, Magnadramon, Rapidmon,

Notes:

-Dang those titles are long! I wonder why Digimon has this weird history of having movies that aren't really movies. I read on some wiki that the Ojamajo Doremi movie was sandwiched in between the two parts which is...a choice (kinda reminds me of the Angela Anaconda thing lol).

-I liked Wallace's design, voice and concept (even though he couldn't pronounce his own name lol), but I didn't really like him being so aggressively flirty with the girls? Felt awkward and forced. Also, Western stereotypes strike again!

-How could Wallace possibly not know about the digital world by now?

-The concept of twin digimon is really cool and Terriermon and Chocomon are adorable. I liked Terriermon's voice a lot. I thought he might be voiced by a young child, but I guess his VA was in her 20s...

-I'm kinda confused about who worked on this. There were times when it seemed like there was an attempt to mimic Mamoru Hosoda's style but then it would switch to a style with really heavy line-art that was like almost the opposite style. Also, they would sometimes freeze frame randomly or use shots from the show which was jarring for a theatrical release.

(Look at this cursed Patamon with lips!)

-Some of the best shots in this were close-ups of things (a digivice, a mouse, an airplane, etc.) Like whoever did the background/object artwork really popped off.

-Mimi's star hair looked so good in this style! It looked awkward in the TV series but here they made the stars kind of holographic and dialed back the colors.

-Literally every new digimon introduced in this was great, but I feel they kinda blew the Seraphimon and Magnadramon introduction. They appeared for like two seconds and didn't do much. If you're going to introduce digivolutions that epic, they should probably take the final blow in my opinion (in other words, they should have just been introduced some other time).

-A Wendigo reference!? In MY Japanese cartoons?? I guess they did their North America research...His design is pretty wild, but I like it.

-Not a whole lot of explaining going on this movie. Chocomon "disappeared one day" and then reappears as Wendigomon and is all confused. Where did he go? Why did they treat all of Chocomon's digivolutions as some kind of disease? Usually when digimon digivolve they call them by their new names, but they never used anything but Chocomon. Were the "bad digivolutions" kind of like Skullgreymon?

-Terriermon's ears are spectacular. I love that they drag on the ground and that they puff up when he flies. A+ mon design.

-I kinda wanted to laugh when Wallace was like "there are digimon in Japan!?" But then I remember "digimon" is a portmanteau of two English words so there's that. Why do his digimon mostly speak in Japanese? For convenience I guess, but it's confusing...

-Seeing Hikari and Takeru ride Amtrak was a hoot. Also, I think this is my first time hearing Denver mentioned in an anime (my friend used to live there lol).

-Why did this billboard look so weird?

(It looks like an animation/editing mistake?)

-The whole "random American movie character" thing reminded me of Melissa from the first My Hero Academia movie. I feel like anime has the tendency to go abroad when they want things to feel special.

-Kinda funny how the dub censors guns but then there are characters like Gargomon who literally has funs for hands. Good luck with that!

-Everyone's baby versions were adorable. I especially liked Daisuke's lack of teeth :)

-Did they break a rule at the end there with Chocomon's digiegg reappearing in the real world? Probably.

Yeah this plot was just...weird. And then there there were a bunch of drawn out scenes with no soundtrack and kinda creepy vibes. It just felt like they didn't know what they wanted to do with this one. Nice to look at, but left me kinda hollow.

My Color Wheel

HOLY FUCKING SHIT I FINALLY GOT THIS DONE

It's far from the prettiest color wheel, but I expected that it wouldn't be from the start, so I used it as an excuse to experiment with my art style a bit(that's why there are inconsistencies in shading, rendering, line weight, etcetera). I'm still glad that I did it despite the lackluster quality because I have a hard time letting myself be loose with my art. If I attempted to make this with my perfectionist mindset, it would've taken 3 times as long to finish without getting me any closer to what I want my art to look like. So if you're an artist that wants to try making a color wheel but are afraid you won't like how it turns out: don't be! Use the challenge to try out a certain brush, shading method, color palette, whatever! You might not love the final result, but you will get something out of the experience.

Before I end this post, I want to talk about the characters in this wheel and why I picked them[WARNING: LONG].

Flare: Tbh, I don't have a strong connection to Flare, she's not even my favorite Panel de Pon character. What I do like about her is her official artwork and character themes, the girl's got confidence, sass, and a banging critical theme. I also really wanted to draw a character from Panel de Pon because there's so much to love about the franchise despite lacking on official content (I'd be upset at IS for that, but I can't blame them too much when any original IP that wasn't Fire Emblem or Advance Wars didn't sell well).

Daisy: You don't need me to tell you who Daisy is. All I really need to say is that I love her for the same reason every other Daisy fan loves her. Saying Daisy rules because of her (relatively) bombastic personality is nothing new, but that really is why I like her so much. That's also why some people hate her, but that makes me appreciate Daisy more. I think it's great to have a character that people either love or hate in a franchise with simple characters.

Mew Pudding: Despite Tokyo Mew Mew aging like milk imo, I wanted to include a character from it because it was the 1st magical girl series I read, and I love magical girl shows SO much! I drew Pudding because she's my favorite girl in the group. As a kid, it was just because she's funny, but as an adult the juxtaposition between her role as a caretaker for a bunch of little siblings and the youngest member of the Mew Mews was pretty interesting. Dare I say, she would've been a better protagonist than Ichigo.

Rina: I couldn't hop off the magical girl train yet, especially since Mermaid Melody was my 2nd introduction to the wonderful world of magical girls. Most Mermaid Melody fans prefer Luchia or Hanon, but as long as I can remember my favorite was Rina. I never got a chance to re-read the series so I can't remember why, but knowing what I know about myself now, the reason might've been...formative.

Frosty Puff: Probably the most obscure character on this wheel, due to the triple whammy of being a minor character in one generation of a series most people don't care about. No disrespect to the Strawberry Shortcake fandom, I like looking at your posts here, but to the general public, Strawberry Shortcake stonks are pretty low right now. That didn't stop me from drawing Frosty Puff though, because of...well she...ok I admit it was just because of her design. As far as I know, Frosty Puff never got any meaningful characterization. But I was really hyper fixated on the 2003 Strawberry Shortcake era when I started this, and I wanted a character in cyan that wasn't showing up everywhere. Her in-show design doesn't have a drop of cyan, but her official doll's hair did so I merged the two.

Undine: If you don't know who this character is, that's fine :] but it also means you haven't read Sleepless Domain, and it's worth it just for her. Won't elaborate because there are a few twists and turns I don't want to spoil, but if you want to see more magical girl stories for a slightly older audience, check it out.

Amethyst: I drew Amethyst from Steven Universe because of the small arc she has involving Jasper. The 1st time I watched it, I really resonated with Amethyst for a reason I couldn't articulate. Something about her struggling with then coming to terms with the genetic differences between her and Jasper was surprisingly real, and I shared her frustration with Jasper being this seemingly unbeatable opponent...then I watched it again and realized some of the stuff Jasper said was REALLY ableist. That might have something to do with it.

Caitlin: And to top it all off, my favorite psychic user in the pokemon franchise. Won't go into it because this post got way too long, but I think her backstory makes her a certified badass.

Submitting my art to be demolished

I like the lighting, I can tell exactly what direction its coming from and the mood you're trying to set. I like the use of the lighter line art where the light hits. Personally, I think you could go even harder on the lighting. It's a very emotional and moody scene and you should let the light push that even further.

Some parts of the hair where you should be using that trick with the lighter line art for you didn't so I would def recommend adding that. On the subject of the hair, the shadows of the hair should be as dark as the outlines if you're going for a more painted look, if you want to go with a more cell shaded look you're shapes need to be more decisive and sharp. Right now it's feeling a little inconsistent and like you can't decide which way you want to go with it (this is a little bit similar to something I said about Jules' work).

If you take a little peak at this cel shaded hair tutorial you can see that the lines are much thinner, the shadows are much darker, and the shapes of the shadow and light are much sharper.

if you take a look at Mr Jackson's hair here on my drawing you'll see that it's much softer and more blended and I use no harsh outlines except some highlights on the rim light.

Now I'm not gonna stop you from following your dreams of mashing these two together and frankly if you can do that and make it work that would be very sexy of you and more power to you. However the point I'm making is that as of now, it doesn't seem like you created a style out of two techniques but rather that you like both and can't decide on one. (I also think it would help you to reference the flow of hair a bit, you started added details within the hair's shape but it doesnt feel like it's following any sort of logic, if that makes sense).

So for the perspective, I felt like it was a little off but when i mapped it it was actually, very much correct, so I was wondering why it didn't quite feel right. What I realized is that for the brown frame farthest left you're seeing the wrong side of the frame. you have a shadow on the left side (the inside) of the frame when it should be on the outside from this angle.

the picture frame right by their head should also be something like this instead of straight on/flat the way it is right now.

i also think the images in the frame should be slightly distorted with the perspective instead of flat like you have it now. if it's distorted already I would distort it more. you can map a lot of stuff like this out but it's more important that it looks right than be completely technically correct.

along that line, the frame right by their head should be moved a bit. it feels too close to the mirror and while it may be technically correct that we don't see the rest of it it's visually off because of the size. when you hide information like that you kind of have to make sure that it's not making it confusing, if that makes sense. you've cut off just enough of the frame for it to be hard to decipher if we should be seeing the rest of it or not and if it's the right size for that space.

I would also super recommend lightening the lines on these environmental pieces or even not including them at all (especially for the images in the frames) these should be in the background and they stand out very harshly due to the bold lines and amount of detail.

I'm gonna take a real fast pivot into anatomy and shape volume. I totally get the whole stylized art thing but styles are based on fundamentals! Not to sound like an art school snob but you should learn a bit of realism it'll really help you.

If you take a look at a human skeleton you'll see that the ribcage is very big and voluminous. In your drawing it looks flat and makes the chest look concave. This is a bit hard for me to put into words so i've made a bit of a sketch to demonstrate

similarly the arm is cylindrical and the curves on the plates of the armor are a little too flat and are making you lose the volume of the arm. i'm not entirely sure this sketch makes any amount of sense but

(all things are cubes, cylinders, or spheres. thats why art students get forced to do 800 million still lives)

Some other notes

i mentioned this in Jules' thing but more harsh shadows! blending is very tempting but harsh shadows are your bestie especially on metal and in the folds of clothes (this is how I render metal, metal is hard and shiny and needs hard shadows)

I think you could saturate your shadows more in particular on the bracer. it looks a little too grey for brown leather

consider: finger nails (i know i like to skip a fingernail or 2 here or there but when the hand is such an emotional focal point and you can see it so well you should do it, makes a world of difference really)

Been meaning to ask why you reblog in chains and why the stuff you reblog is super inconsistent you don't have a set aesthetic and some of the art is really ugly or from dead blogs won't that make it harder to find your content

You're actually one of the few people to ask about my reblogging method, and that took me a bit to understand. Apologies, it's 3am and I've been doing things in preparation for moving house this Saturday (it's been a long two weeks thus far).

It's kinda embarrassing... The way I reblog stuff is tied in to a bit of a trauma of mine.

As a kid I was conditioned to believe all of my childhood drawings were worthless. That stuff I made wasn't worth saving. That when I drew things, inevitably the time I poured into making it was ending up in a trash bin. I only recently realized other artists saved their older art to look back on fondly (and cringe a bit because of past inexperience).

That in mind, I have this thing I like to do that I call "Rabbit Holing"... It's probably not the best way to find content on Tumblr, but it's the method that works for me due to my short attention span and terrible memory.

It involves a couple of steps:

Go into a random tag of whatever fandom I'm currently into.

Find a piece of art I like.

Click the Like button on that piece.

Proceed along to the next art and or fic. Like that one as well.

Rinse and repeat until you got a couple of nice different art pieces stored in my likes page.

After collecting enough of those, open new tabs with each OP's Tumblr blog.

Open each blog's archives and begin navigating their fandom/art/fic/misc tags. There might be slight variations of those so be as through as you want.

Look through their collection of things they've seen and reblogged into their own blogs, plus their own posts as well. Congratulations you've just opened several new rabbit holes to older/more obscure/newer artists that like the same stuff as you.

Reblog the accumulation of content in whatever order you prefer.

I see a variety of things through the eyes of other people.

I see artists who were clearly experimenting with new styles, new brushes, new colors, new methods. Drawing nothing and everything just to see what they could accomplish.

I see writers who wrote to their heart's delight, either making up lighthearted stories or trying to touch on more serious subjects that some would rather ignore or sugar-coat.

Sometimes I find the most beautiful drawings that come from long dead blogs, or that exist only through reblogs because the OP felt like they couldn't indulge in an old guilty pleasure anymore.

Or, I find a series of fics that have me at the edge of my seat wondering what comes next. The chapters lost to time, but the words leaving an impact that I'll cherish for as long as I can hold that story in my own archives.

Other times I find drawings that are wobbly, inexperienced or aesthetically ugly to some, but that people clearly put love and dedication into making. Little gateways into better more consistent pieces that then lead to a bold variety of shapes and colors.

Overall, I find a lot of old things that mark the beginning or end of an era in a content creator's life. And I'm led on a mini journey of seeing someone flourish into a better artist/writer.

It's... Kinda humbling. Not being able to remember where I started myself, but being able to see where someone picked up a craft.

Sometimes people don't learn past certain steps, and sometimes people give up halfway through... But I find that encouraging in its own way.

I learn from these people. I learn from their mistakes. From their attempts to be better, and from the way others tried to remember them too.

It's why I'm so eager to share ideas and spread the thoughts of others I guess. I just like the idea that maybe someone will look into my own blog's archive and maybe see all the good things the past and present of certain communities accomplished. Even when Tumblr inevitably crashes and burns, I like to think about the positive impact a lot of people try to leave.

So nah, doesn't bother me if my stuff doesn't get seen over the things I reblog.

I'd say your art trademark is more in the shading and the size of the jaws at least your skeletons. Like, when you draw the Sanses, their jaws are kind of wide. I always thought of my art style as being remarkably inconsistent, to be honest. I can’t really stick to one style of drawing for long periods of time. I think I’m finally figuring out how I like to draw Sans’ face, though. When you say jaws, do you mean like ‘cheeks’ or ‘teethy smile’?

Also I’m still trying to figure out a shading style/method that works for me so that’s always prone to changing lol.

AOT MANGA SPOILERS part 2

Wait, what? You would have ended it at the beach and leave us like that? No answers about what happened next? 👀 That's cruel! I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it! I'd be 93, on my dying bed and still wonder what happened after the beach! Did Reiner ever return? Did they go beyond the sea? Who inherited Eren's titan? So many questions! 🤯 Ha that's a cute emoji! First time using it! 😂

I didn't really mind adding Marley to the story! Do I care about them? Not so much but I think they helped us see how Reiner grew up and get a better idea of his character and why he did certain things! Also, it was nice seeing Marley and Paradis working together to stop Eren! And if he had become a true villain Breaking Bad style, it would look even better! And in order to have peace in the end we needed a few key characters from Marley to interact and bond with Paradis people to make that happen and we couldn't have just Reiner!

You're so right about the lore, there are so many inconsistencies in the whole story! And I get your frustration about Hange, they definitely deserved better, at least a better death like other key characters had before them! And don't get me started on the Ackerman stuff... 😫

Yes, the beach scene is in season 3 (I just watched it yesterday 🤭)! The new art style... There are things I like and things I don't! But I looove Eren with long hair so I'm not gonna complain, he was hot! I did notice some inconsistencies between the first and second part of season 4 tho! It's the same studio but Eren suddenly looked different in part 2 and weirdly younger than he was in first part! 🤔 I also love how they did Armin, definitely an improvement!

I 100% agree with your last paragraph, the ending was disappointing but there were some good moments there! Btw the guy's name is Niccolo! Was the last arc the reason you fell in love with Reiner or did you always like him?

Oh, yeah. 100%. I think it's good that it leaves questions - that Marley and Reiner/Bertholdt/Ymir's story is largely left untold. Sometimes I think it's more engaging? (I say like everything I write isn’t left on a hideous unknown. Haha!) I'd also change a few details, if I were to end it there, though: Kill off Annie, Possibly have Historia be taken w/Reiner, Bertholdt and Ymir, have Levi kill Zeke earlier, input a stronger romance line with Eren and Mikasa and probably explore the Ackerman side of things a lot more (My piece Bloodline is actually a little insight into some of the plot line I've been toying with related to this). Just to keep the plot more centred? If that makes sense.

Yeah, idk - I think it's more just a personal thing, for me. I feel like we could have learned a lot about Reiner with just his little squad too? Like the moment with Marco on the roof top, or when he and Bertholdt tell Eren about them being titans. More moments like that. I just needed to see more, I think? More of the soft side, that wasn't the weird 'my wife' stuff w/Historia that's just... Dropped? (I could be wrong there, bc my comprehension for some things is dreadful, but I feel like we didn't get any conclusion.) because it's seeing him with the kids of Marley that contextualises him, I think, but, I do agree that to make the end somewhat satisfying we did need to see Marley and Paradis come together!!!

I am so mad about Hange and the Ackerman stuff. So mad. 😡😡😡

Niccolo! That's him! Thank you! 🥰 There was definitely some brilliant moments, but on a whole it falls down for me. As for Reiner - I got really interested when we got more of a peak into the mental break he was suffering. I was ready to slide head first into the whole Reiner/Bertholdt simp pot, but them Armin went absolutely insane convincing Bertholdt that they where torturing Annie when they where trying to run off with Eren and Ymir and I hopped, skipped and jumped into being an Armin simp instead. I really do adore that little creep with every inch of my body.
