T h a n k y o u ! !

My queue right now is astronomically high compared to what it has been since my return to this community. It is full of reblogs in which I have left my love and adoration for all the beautiful work this community creates and I want to start making it a habit again.

It is my personal belief that reblogs are how this community thrives. Its how people get introduced to one another and how your work finds new people and I want to be one of those blogs out there who are constantly reblogging to uplift my fellow creators again. I want to break the habit of silently reblogging and start forging bonds with people again. I want to get to know you guys and interact more (send more asks and tag in more memes) and this is my first foot forward in doing just that!!

@shroudkeeper and @airis-ray both tagged me in this post and I just wanted to extend the most heart warming thank you to you both. Seeing people recommend my work gives me the biggest confidence boost in a community where my past has left me sorely lacking confidence. You both have inspired this trend for me and it just goes to show how far a little kindness can go.

I also want to give the biggest shout out in the world to @thefreelanceangel who is literally a huge part of why I'm still here and why I returned at all. All of your reblogs, heart warming tags, and encouragement is initially what drew me back in to writing and creating here instead of continuing to privately with write and interact with @gatheredfates and other friends. You make my skills as a writer and screenshot photographer feel incredibly valued and you inspire me to keep on creating. Thank you so much for that, because I honestly believe that without you (and Sea) I would not be present here.

And last, but certainly not least, the loudest shout out to my hype lady and the platonic love of my life, @gatheredfates who literally keeps me and my creativity going every day. Listen, her tags might be a little unhinged, but no one encourages me like she does. Her Ask/Question drive (you should check it out) is also hella inspiring and I love how much you do for this community both publicly and behind the scenes. This woman is an absolute angel and probably the best person I know. I love you dearly! Did I mention she is an INCREDIBLE writer and she comes up with some of the most creative and in depth characters? I adore reading her work and if you're reading this, you should definitely go read it.

In the end though, thank you for the little energy boost. I'm gonna keep on keeping on, but then I'm gonna keep on even harder by trying to engage more with you folks! Aw heck, now you're stuck with me. >:)

PS: Feel free to recommend more blogs!! The post I mentioned before introduced to me to so many new blogs and I have followed so many new people recently where as I have struggled to find others on my own in the past. Its been really refreshing! ♥

GralunaIsland's 1 Year Anniversary!

I have no clue if it's cringe or not, but I just wanted to celebrate my blog's 1 year anniversary of existence a little!!

On this very day last year, October 21, 2021, I made my first Tumblr post, and it's been such a fun ride ever since.

Not only have I made some lasting, dear friendships because of it, it's just been a blast running it, because, yes, I get to run my mouth on a subject I feel so strongly about, but mostly because it's introduced me to a wonderful community of likeminded individuals and even some who disagree yet are so kind!

Continuing on the celebration haha, in honor of 1 year of running this blog, over the course of today, I'll be reblogging some of my most favorite posts I've written over the year. I have no idea if other blogs do this, but if they don't I guess I'll just be the first to start this tradition!

My goal is that it'll let my new followers get a chance to see some of the older things I've written, and maybe some of my old followers will get to reread something they liked.

may i ask you abt tumblr ettiquette? what are likes for? i see people say stuff like "dont just like something reblog it as well" but you and a few other people i've seen say you use likes as a way to remember to reblog a post later but i thought that was what drafts were for? and other people like nearly every post they see? idk what theyre meant to be for.

right so: part of tumblr etiquette (in theory) is answering asks in a timely fashion, and I have no idea how long this has been sitting in my inbox but it was buried under a few other things so I missed it for who-knows-how-long. Sorry! >.<

On the likes... it depends on who you ask. And tbh it's changed over the years. Used to be that a heart was just like on any other social media site -- showed that you, ya know. Liked something. Nothing more, nothing less.

But because tumblr doesn't work like other sites, likes don't get you any sort of engagement with a wider audience, so people quickly started saying "Please don't just like my posts, reblog them so other people see them."

Which is valid. BUT we creators also need to remember that just because someone enjoys something we put up doesn't mean they necessarily want it on their blog, and that's valid too. But yeah: you'll see some people get real militant about "don't like spam!"

(and, granted -- going into your notifs and they're just full of one person going through and hearting everything you've posted in the last 48 hours is... a little obnoxious. But you CAN filter your notifs and hide likes so it's not as if it completely ruins your ability to find reblogs and comments and stuff so... annoying, but not the end of the world.)

But if someone constantly posts "Reblogs over likes!! Reblog with comment, don't just like!!" I'll be honest: I'm going to be less likely to reblog at all, even if I do genuinely enjoy the content. Don't tell me what to do, lol. Maybe I want to show you as an artist that I appreciate your effort and work, but I don't actually want to show everyone else the thing? If I reblog something it's because I want my followers to see it to, and that doesn't necessarily apply to every single thing that I see and think "Oh cool/pretty/neat!" about.

So personally, I use likes as a bookmark to go back and find things later. Sometimes I use drafts, but only if it's something I know I'm going to want to add to -- otherwise, it's way faster to just hit the like button and keep scrolling. If I've got time to save it as a draft, I've got time to put the tags in (...I tag everything. Everything. If I didn't, I'd like less and just reblog more.) If I'm in a hurry or on cursed mobile, I don't want to bother with tags, so I hit "like" and come back to it later when I'm on desktop.

And these days I sometimes just use likes as... ya know. A like. Because I LIKE something. Which seems. Obvious. But tumblr culture means it's not or we wouldn't be having this conversation.

so... tl;rd -- use the hellsite (affectionate) however you want. It's your experience. If you think something is cool but you don't want to actually reblog it, like it. If you want to come back and find it later, like it. Or save it as a draft. Or reblog it with #tag later. Or literally whatever you want. Maybe don't go on like-spamming sprees of individual blogs? Especially if you then don't reblog anything or at least give them a follow? But even then -- who cares. You still showed appreciation for the content. As long as you're not re-uploading stuff, you're fine.

Not only that, but you dragged me kicking and screaming into the Pedro Pascal, and Oscar Issac fandom. A few months ago I couldn't have told you who Poe Dameron was.
