I wouldn't say it is necessarily true about all female characters? I found some of the women introduced late in the story quite complex and fascinating - Pudding, Reiju, and Big Mom (who, I think, is a far more interesting and terrifying villain than Kaido) come to mind. You're probably right about Tashigi specifically, though, it seems like Oda doesn't know what to do with her at this point. She seems to have been introduced to sort of be to Zoro what Koby is to Luffy, a foil growing and evolving alongside him but on the other side of the barricade, and/or be proof that women can become great skilled warriors too, and then she doesn't really get to do either :/ But I can fix her have watched enough mediocre TV in my life to be used to loving female characters for the potential I see in them rather than just for what writers allow them to be

Sanji- A Moment Alone @ the Whole Cake Chateau

Now I’ll be honest, I haven’t read much Sanji as he’s not one of my mains. However, Whole Cake inspired me to give writing him a go. Thoughts are welcome.

You’d never thought much about Sanji and his advances before, that was until he was gone. When he left Zou suddenly, and to get married of all things, something clicked inside you. Sanji was your friend, but maybe you felt more for him than just friendship?

You’d been with the Strawhats for a while now. Decent fighter, devil fruit ability, and always willing to help with the cooking and cleaning on the ship. Your upbringing was rocky and you thought there was no beauty left in the world. That was until the Strawhats saved you and told you about their adventures. That’s when you realized your dream, to find the beauty in the world from end to end and document it.

Sanji and you were close. You realized preparing food for a crew with a big eater like Luffy, was no easy feet, so you started offering your assistance early on. Though, he rarely took it, as he would rather a pretty lady like you, sit and relax, so he could serve you. However, after much insisting and some teasing that resulted in nose bleeds threatening to ruin his food, he eventually came around.

When he left you were speechless. You just thought he was off in the kitchen again, insisting on no one helping him. Then, a day went by and there was no swooning at your feet or the smell of his cigarettes on the breeze. You missed the way he’d put his arms around you to help teach you to chop things properly. You missed how he’d drop everything to help you or any female if they were in any sort of trouble. You missed how he puffed on his cigarettes in the heat of battle. You missed his advice and his fights with Zoro. Most of all, you missed staying up late and looking at the stars with him. On those nights, you’d discuss what you thought would be at the end of the line, the end of the new world, laughtale. You’d talk about your pasts and your hopes for the future. You never thought your future would be without Sanji. You didn’t know in what capacity, but you knew he’d always be there.

He said he’d be back, he smiled when he said it, but something didn’t feel right. Something in your heart ached. Something funny or sad would happen and he was the first person you’d want to tell, but he was gone. How’d you let him go?

You sat alone outside staring up through the forest at the stars. Nami came out and found you. She sat next to you before you realized she was there. You glanced at her and gave her a half smile.

“Y/N, what’s wrong? You haven’t been yourself since Sanji left.” Nami asked.

You glance at her then look back at the stars and sigh. You stare forward blankly a moment and before you can speak she opens her mouth again.

“We all miss him, Y/N, but he will be back. Luffy won’t let him go.”

“Yeah.” You say softly. “And this time I won’t let him go... Nami, I think…”

“You have feelings for Sanji? Yeah we all already know, took you long enough to realize.”

You gasp and stare at her in despair.

“What? Does he..?”

“He has no idea, but the man is head over heels for you. As soon as Luffy gets here… let’s go get him.” She says looking at you with a large smile.

When Luffy got to Zou and found you all, he agreed he needed to go after him. You were the first person to say you were tagging along. After a few days on Zou helping the minks and making plans, you head to Whole Cake Island in the hopes of bringing Sanji home to the Sunny. Once on Whole Cake island you, Luffy, Nami, Chopper, and Carrot got lost in the seducing woods. Big Moms daughter, Brûlée, managed to trap you in her Mirror World with Chopper and Carrot. While Luffy and Nami set off to find Sanji. Later using a shard of mirror you find a chance to contact Luffy and Nami for an update on their progress. While you were trapped in the mirror world you learn they had found Sanji, and he had beaten Luffy in a fight. He ultimately, refused to come back. You couldn’t believe your ears at the news. That wasn’t the Sanji you knew.

Luffy’s new plan was to wait for Sanji to come to him. You, Carrot, and Chopper continued to work on finding a way out of the mirror world, so you could reconnect with him and Nami.

In a moment of selfishness as your thoughts went only to Sanji, you make a plan to escape alone from the Mirrorworld. You had seen a reflection of Sanji in a nearby mirror and decided to use Brûlée to get back to the real world, through that same Mirror. While tied up, you managed to trip one of her guards causing them to tumble and almost knock over her stew pot. While Brulee was yelling at them for this, you managed to inch your way up to grab something sharp to cut through your rope bonds from a nearby counter. Once freed, you waited for Brûlée to head towards the mirror where you had earlier seen Sanji’s reflection. You looked at Chopper and Carrot and threw the sharp object behind your back for them to begin working on their ties. You inched closer to them.

“I’m going to go find Sanji. Can you two find Luffy and Nami?” You whisper.

“You want to split up? Why don’t we go together?” Chopper whispered urgently.

“If Luffy couldn’t get through to Sanji, I’m the only one who still has a chance. You and Carrot get out of here. Besides, if Big Mom’s family is as big as they say, I’m better off going in alone, less likely to be detected. I’ll take a piece of mirror for updates. Good luck.” You say softly as you eye Brûlée walking towards the mirror you need.

The rabit and train man suddenly turn their backs to you, distracted by the smell of the stew. You hop to your feet and run towards the mirror where Sanji’s reflection used to be. She screams as you grab her wrist and pull her towards the mirror with you. You cross through the mirror, and as you exit, you drop her wrist. Once out of the mirror, you turn around and watch as she stares at you, stunned. The creatures working with her begin to run towards the mirror. As they do so, you grab the mirror from the wall and smash it on the ground.

“Well that may have been a bit loud.” You whisper to yourself.

You turn about the room and notice you’re in a bedroom. No one was inside. Inside the room there was a dresser, a bed, a small table, a few chairs, a kitchenette, and a now shattered mirror. It must be where they were keeping Sanji in the Whole Cake Chateau, you thought.

You find a nearby door of a closet and jumped inside. You wait a few minutes, but no one enters after the crash of the mirror. You exit the closet and re-examine the room.

You weren’t sure where Sanji was or when he would come back. You decided your best bet was to hide behind where the door swung open, just in case an enemy entered. About 30 minutes later Sanji entered the room, alone. Upon entering the room he stared at the storm brewing out the window by his bed. You let the guards that escorted Sanji to his room exit and shut the door fully before you acted.

“Sanji.” You whispered.

He gasped nearly dropping his cigarette as you called to him. He turned around and there you were. You were wearing a short sleeved white ruffled dress, the top of which, emphasized your breasts and showed some cleavage. The bottom of the dress cut just below your ass and had a pink apron over it. “I didn’t believe Luffy. I had to hear you say it yourself.” You said as you move your hands to his arms.

He stared at you a moment with his teeth clenched. He looked down at the floor where his cigarette laid, burnt out.

“Y/N. Im sorry I lied to you all about who I was. I’m sorry you came all this way for me, but I’m marrying Pudding tomorrow. She wants to marry me and I think I’ll be happy with her. There is nothing Luffy or… you… can do to stop me”

You don't want to admit you have a slight crush on him, because if you did you'd only have your heart broken. You respected Zoro, but you also acknowledge how empty-headed he can be, you know that someone like Zoro doesn't do love, the only thing on his mind was swords, sake, and sleep. You'd sometimes daydream about what he'd be like as a boyfriend, but you knew it would never work between you two. Can you imagine if the Vinsmokes gained their emotions back when Sanji saves their lives at WCI, but it kinda hits them all at once, so they become massively attached to Sanji.

21+ years of familial love for their brother smacks them in the face, only for them to find out Sanji has REALLY over protective boyfriends in ASL who monopolize Sanji all the time (this can be the gods au or just regular ASL+S)

Gods can you imagine the guilt? Not only just all that love but the guilt, shame, embarrassment, and horror at what they've done. Reiju just watching them and Ichiji asking her why she never stopped them, how often she helped Sanji after what they did? He needs to know and the answers 'i didn't want the attention ' and 'not enough' rip through his chest like niji's lightning.

Sanji's gone, with his crew and they've only just escaped Big Mom's pirates and her prison and everything so they're not exactly primed for the real world. But without Germa and being free means they need to find their own way. So uhh, they guess first things they'll go find Zeff and thank him? And they do. Zeff and everyone is confused about the apology/thanks combo they're getting. Especially because it revolves around Sanji and Germa. Zeff is ready to kill them all but Patty says they can work for their forgiveness and puts them in the dishpit.

It's good for them, they're working through a lot of things and Zeff keeps making them push back against him verbally. They're...healing, but they need more but at least they're also developing some skills that can help them in their pursuit. Over time, maybe about a year ish later they decide to find Sanji. To go apologize, they won't ask for forgiveness, it's not something they deserve but he needs to their regret, their sorrow, their change. For them to be like him like their mother wanted. Maybe their skin is no longer metal, still extremely durable but they can be bleed.

Following the Strawhats is a challenge and Zeff warned them about it though. He gives them his lot of the Grand Line, a log post, and demands letters. They agree as Reiju stays with Zeff. As they set sail Zeff tells them to not be afraid of Sanji's boyfriends, they'll understand eventually! Which makes Niji ask the hell that means to no response. It takes a few months but they're doing fine. Mostly.

The New World is a bigger challenge than they expected but when they catch up the crew is fighting Marines and it's all an out assault from both sides. Ichiji says they should attack the Marines so they do with their powers and uhhh, is that a guy with three swords coming after them? Oh shit it's that Roronoa Zoro guy! Fuck!

Yonji is trying to calm him down while evading him. Ichiji and Niji are still focusing on actually fighting the Marines who start to retreat and the fire dives down so Luffy snaps onto their ship with a rubbery twang and pure anger and Nami, the hot chick they remember is there on a cloud. Right. Okay. They can do this!

"You broke the agreement so we're going to sink your ship!" Luffy yells at them in warning.

"We want to to apologize to Sanji." Ichiji says evenly.

"I'll see if he even wants to talk to you after what happened." Nami growls as the cloud takes her back. They get a signal to meet at the ship. Not to board, so it's kind of awkward with the height differences between the ships. Luffy and Zoro jump up onto their ship as Luffy slings an arm around Sanji with a cowboy guy who is glaring viciously at them.

"Speak your piece and get the fuck away!" Sanji yells at them.

"Were sorry! We are not owed forgiveness for anything!" Yonji starts.

"That's not an apology." The cowboy says.

"Oh, Sabo's going suuuper to love this." The robot says.

"Ah, do you want us to say? We don't know what you told them and don't want to cause more problems." Ichiji asks.

"Start with the cuffs." Luffy demands.

"Cuffs?" A few voices ask.

"Sorry we let Judge put those on you!" Ichiji says with a wince.

"Sorry for our childhoods!" Niji yells. "And electrocuting you with that plate in your back, especially. And calling you a failure after you got shot."

"Wait-" Zoro tries.

"Sorry about the dungeon?" Yonji tries which flummoxes the rest of the crew except Sanji.

"Oh my God they're going to die." Nami says.

"Zeff says you should write more, he's kind of been doing the whole push back thing he did with you? Reiju's still there." Ichiji says.

"Alright, I'll write to the fucking geezer but if I see any of you before I come back to Baratie I'm not who you have to worry about." Sanji threatens.

"Just one?" Luffy asks.

"Nah, let Sabo deal with them." Cowboy says. "Zeff is more likely to forgive him."

"Doubt that, lets get the fuck outta here, I need to start lunch." Sanji says walking away from the railing. With the crew chattering after him. When the brothers get home a few months later there's a blond guy talking with Reiju and Zeff and smiling politely with another orange haired girl beside him.

"Don't threaten them too much." Zeff warns.

"I would never sully this fine established like that." The blond says with mock offense.

"Don't sully it with blood either." Zeff stresses.

"Of course not! I'll do it elsewhere and no one will know." The blond smiles at the chef. "Bye guys!" He chirps, grabbing a pipe from the floor and leaves with the other girl who mimics slitting her throat at them with a smile as she skips out the door.

synopsis: Working while eveyone else sleep was common for you and Nami. But you would never grow tired of having to stop yourself for laughing so no one else would wake up.

Going Merry heading towards the Grand Line, the Coco Village left far behind, salty breeze against your face. Life felt just right. Maybe because it was just right.

Sanji creating new, different dishes. Usopp telling amazing stories during dinner. Zoro falling asleep in seconds after a hard day, barely touching his food. Luffy eating everything on his plate, then stealing whatever was left on Zoro's. The swordsman knowing exactly what he was doing, but never trying to stop him.

And Nami watching. Observing, assimilating everyone's happiness. Drinking on their laughter, consuming the glow on their eyes, feeling all those types of joys she denied herself for so long out of fear and duty for her people.

And you, watching her.

You're so grateful Nami accept help. That she asked for it, trusted her crew, allowed herself to be vulnerable. When Arlong fell down, you enjoyed every second. As he suffered, you didn't felt any guilty about watching him being tear apart.

Nami was fine, and she will forever be fine if it depends on you.

There is another reason why you are so happy that she's there with you. And maybe it has something to do with that fact that sometimes it feels like you both are the only functional adults on the ship.

"It is what you think?" Nami smiled. Lately she does this frequently. It never ceases to move you. "Well, I'm grateful it's just the two of us here."

You pulled your chair closer to the table, metal dancing between your fingers. While she worked on copying the map of the Grand Line, you focused on a new sort of bomb. "Why's that?"

The pencil in Nami's hand suddenly became heavier. She looked at you for a moment. Concentrating on putting the right amount of gunpowder into the metal container, you didn't even noticed. Nami went back to the map.

"I like being alone," her whisper travel through moonlight until your ears. "And I like being alone with you."

You could feel your belly getting warmer. "Me too," you whispered, just like her.

Nami was afraid of losing (or that someone would stole) the map, so she was very careful to transcribe everything correctly. She was concerned with the proportions, with the capes and bays, every tiny island. She worked with technique and precision, as if it were second nature to her.

You take precautions. Luffy isn't exactly the calmest person in the world, and fights seem to be drawn to the crew. You want to stop being caught off guard by these moments. Smoke bombs, paint that sticks to the eyes, cannonballs that are more effective than those bought in the villages.

With the right explosives, battles that would previously take all of the team's energy could be ended in minutes. Why make Zoro use all his swords if you can just blow everything up?

Even when everyone was long asleep, you both continued to work. And if it was on you both, sleep would only come after the work was done. But it wasn't.

It was the third time you tried to cover your yawning. You didn't want this moment to end, for you both to get separeted until the other day, but it was getting harder and harder at every second.

You were filling a tube with powder, and then it was falling on down your finger. You slept. For barely five seconds, but still.

"What if we finish everything tomorrow?" You rubbed your eyes with the palms of your hands, trying to keep it clean of gunpowder. "It isn't thaaaat important."

Nami looked at you, her eyes also heavy. She sighed, and rubbed her thumb against your cheek. She cleaned the powder stain on you, and returned her focus to the sheets spread out on the table.

You had never felt so grateful that Nami didn't pay attention to you. Otherwise she would notice that your eyes widened and lips parted.

"Please?" You tried again. "Pretty please?"

This was something Nami needed to get right. She runaway with the map, and came back knowing that everyone was aware of how she would've ended their plans for her people. Nami wants to make up for her mistakes. To prove herself worthy of everyone's care.

"Coffee," was her answer. If it even can be considered one. "Let's make coffee and then we can come back to working."

You could've said no. Entered you room, locked the door and went to sleep. But you never would leave her alone. So, when Nami held your hand and pulled you towards the kitchen, you let her. You murmured and complained, but you let her anyway.

"Sanji told to not enter his kitchen without supervision," you cried out. "He has a sixth sense for this shit. Do you want him to wake up and start to yell at us?"

"He wouldn't yell at us," Nami rolled her eyes, opening the cabinets in search for something that would keep you both awake. "All you need to do is to look at him with those beautiful eyes of yours and Sanji will forget about everything."

You bite back a smile. "You think my eyes are beautiful?"

"I'm supervising you," she ignored you. That made you smirk. "Now keep it quiet."

It was definitely the worst timing for you to bump into the metal pots. Your eyes were as wide as those fancy plates the blond bring with him, and you bite your lips as if it would stop the noise.

When you looked at Nami, you both burst into laughter.

You put your hands in front of her mouth. Everyone else was sleeping, you both couldn't just wake them up. Luffy is already a problem because is like he can smell when someone is looking for food, and you add noise to that?

"Shut up," you whispered. "They gonna hear us."

"You started this," Nami said with your hand still covering her mouth. She breathed in, controlling herself. "Coffee. Now."

"You're so... stubborn," you whispered. "And bossy."

Nami blinked her eyes at you, and you could see she was trying her best not to laugh at you. "Stubborn and bossy?" Her voiced betrayed her, the laughing scaping her throat. "That's the worst you can do?"

Chapter 8: Promises Broken...

Over the next few days, you traversed the Alabastan Desert with the Stawhats. Ace occasionally gave you piggyback rides, and sometimes you rode on the perverted camel, but mostly you walked.

Walking gave you something to focus on. When your mind wandered, that’s when the fear crept in. So even though you were hot and miserable, you preferred walking to the alternatives.

Ace even let you wear his most treasured hat so you could keep the sun out of your eyes and avoid sunburn. 

The journey was long, but it wasn’t uneventful. You learned more about Vivi and the Kingdom of Alabasta. She told you stories of her admirable undercover work in Baroque Works, and your heart hurt for her and her country.

Nami told you about her tangerines and how she wanted to draw a map of the entire world. From what you had seen, she was an excellent navigator and had a way with reading the weather that you had never seen before. 

Usopp told you about stories that were too crazy to believe, and you offered up some of your actual stories in return. 

Chopper talked to you about vitamins, and though you didn’t tell him exactly what was going on, he gave you a lot of medicinal herb remedies you could use in the future for morning sickness and other ailments. 

Zoro didn’t talk much, but you did admire his swords. Izou had taught you how to handle swords when you were young; a skill that you had further refined in Wano, and you were able to impress the mossy-haired swordsman with a few moves. 

You helped Sanji cook occasionally, preparing ingredients when you saw he was going to need them. It reminded you of how you helped Thatch in the kitchen, and you tried not to be too sad over the thought of never doing it with him again. 

Luffy stuck by Ace most of the time, the two of them exchanging stories. You liked to sit and listen to their tales of childhood, and Ace told Luffy plenty of stories about his time on your father’s ship. They deeply cared for each other, which softened your heart. Ace rarely opened up to people in the way he opened up to the Strawhats, and you found yourself thoroughly enjoying everyone’s company. 

When you finally found the man who claimed to have Teach, you weren’t surprised to discover he was a fraud. You were a little disappointed to realize you would actually have to leave Luffy and his crew, though. You had grown very fond of them all. 

“Let’s go in the morning,” Ace begged. “One more night with them all?”

“Sure.” You grinned, knowing he was just as sad to leave as you were. 

He plopped a sloppy kiss on your cheek and got up to stretch. 

“Be right back,” he said, sauntering off to talk to a few other crew mates. 

“I still can’t believe Ace joined a crew,” Luffy said, shaking his head. “This Whitebeard guy can’t be that great!”

You laughed at his comment, your eyes on Ace as you watched him talk to Chopper. “He’s a good guy, Luffy. I think you’d like him if you met him.”

“He has to be a good guy.” Luffy sighed and fell back into the sand. “Ace wouldn’t respect him if not. Ace doesn’t like anybody.”

Your eyes finally broke away from Ace, and you looked at Luffy in confusion. “What are you talking about, Luffy? Ace likes everybody!”

“No way!” He huffed. “He tried to kill me when he first met me! He tried to kill me a lot!”

You thought about how Ace mentioned he had tried to kill your father long ago. That version of Ace lined up a lot more with what Luffy was saying. 

“I think pops beat it out of him.” Your eyes ventured back to Ace, who was now talking to Sanji. You wished he was back by your side. It was getting cold without him. 

“He seems happy,” Luffy said, so quiet it was almost a whisper. “I think you did that to him.”

“Me?!” you laughed. “I make his life infinitely harder, Luffy. Trust me.” You resisted the urge to put your hand to your stomach at that thought.

“Nah.” Luffy sat up and shook his head, sending sand everywhere. “He really loves you. I can tell.”

“How can you tell?”

Luffy hummed, deep in thought. “Well, he would-”

“Got you some tea,” Ace said, interrupting his brother. “How are you feeling?”

“Better.” You snuggled into his arms, letting his warmth wrap around you as you gripped your teacup. 

You looked back at Luffy to hear the rest of his answer, but the boy was already off laughing with another crewmember. Whatever he was going to say was long gone. 

It was a joyous night gathered around the campfire, but it was short lived. Everyone was exhausted, and you were barely able to keep your eyes open near the end. 

“We can go to bed,” Ace offered, smirking at you as you nodded off. 

“No,” you groaned, resting your head on his warm shoulder. “S’our last night…”

“Come on,” he whispered, picking you up and taking you over to your all’s sleeping bags that were a good distance from the rest of the camp. “You need a good night's sleep.”

“Mmmkay,” you hummed, curling up into the sleeping bag. “Come here. You’re so warm.”

“Did you drink all your tea?” Ace brushed the hair away from your face as you hummed with delight. 

“It was really good, thank you.”

Ace watched you closely, waiting for you to go to sleep. “I love you so much. You know that, right?”

“Of course,” you mumbled, a sleepy smile ghosting across your face. “I love you too, Acey.”

Ace bit his lip, holding back his emotions. He gave you a soft kiss on the forehead, and by the time he pulled away, you were softly snoring. 

You had drank all of the sleeping medicine he had put in your tea. With any luck, you would be out until morning. By then, he’d be long gone. 

He slipped his hand into your bag, and pulled out your stack of vivre cards. He shuffled through each one, until he found a small piece of paper with his name on it, covered in hearts that you had drawn across the entire slip of paper. Ace quickly removed it from the pile and shoved it in his pocket, putting all of your other cards back into your bag. 

He bent down and gave you one more kiss, and when you didn’t stir, he walked over to the dying campfire. Only Luffy and Nami were still awake, both sitting in silence as they watched the coals.  

“Here, Luffy.” Ace handed him a new blank slip of paper. “Whatever you do, don’t tell Y/N you have that.”

“This?” Luffy examined the paper, but it was blank. “What is it?”

“We’ll use it to find each other again one day. When we’re both big named pirates.”

Luffy frowned. “It’s just a piece of paper, though.”

“Do you not want it?”

“No,” Luffy said. “I’ll keep it.”

“Are you leaving now?” Nami asked. “It’s the middle of the night.”

“Yeah, I’ve got to get a head start and get the Striker ready.” Ace gave a longing glance back at you. “When she wakes up, can you hand her this?” He passed off a transponder snail to Luffy. 

“Sure,” Luffy said. “But don’t you just want to take her along now?”

“Nah,” Ace said. “She knows where I’m going. She needs to rest. Just leave her until morning. And look after her, will you? Make her travel with you guys until you get back to your ship. I’ll meet her in Nanohana”

“Okay!” Luffy said. 

“Don’t mention that paper, Luffy. I’m serious. She’ll take it from you.”

“But it’s mine!”

“So put it somewhere safe.”

“This doesn’t make any sense,” Nami said, her frown deepening. “Ace, if you’re meeting her in back in Nanohana, you should just-”

Ace ignored Nami, not wanting her to think too hard about his false plan. “Next time I see you, Luffy, we’ll both be top pirates!”

“Deal!” Luffy said. 

And then Ace was gone, disappearing into the night, leaving you blissfully unaware of the unforgivable thing he had just done.

The Strawhats go to Syrup Village when their adventure ends because they want to say hi and thank everyone they've met along the way. Luffy misses his old friends! And Usopp, of course, wants to see the Usopp pirates and... And Kaya. Kaya, mostly. They were dating before Usopp joined the crew and when Usopp started having feelings for Sanji, he sent a letter to her asking if she was fine with that being a thing. And of course, she said yes, because Sanji seemed like such a nice gentleman and if he made Usopp happy then she was happy too. But he hadn't taken into consideration how nervous Sanji would be meeting her. Which, you know, understandable. Meeting your boyfriend's girlfriend. Something totally, uh, normal for Sanji's little mind who had to have a whole crisis for two years about his sexuality and relationships. But you know, it's okay, because it's Kaya. So everything will be fine.

And it surprisingly goes great! Well, surprisingly for Sanji. Usopp knew it would be okay! Obviously!

They encounter the kids first, and they're- They're older and it makes Usopp feel old too. Because what the hell. They're taller and they look almost like teenagers and it's making his heart melt. God, he has missed them so much. They go running to him and asking questions and hugging him and Usopp doesn't think he can take this much happiness, really. He keeps bragging about his cool, awesome, powerful crew and bounty and says that he'll tell them all their adventures later. Piiman directly asks "So, which one of them is your boyfriend?!" and Usopp freezes because "How do you know I have a-" and Tamanegi jumps in like, "Kaya told us!" and Usopp obviously can't be surprised at that. Or mad. He wrote the letters for the kids too, after all. So while the crew waits there watching it all happen, Usopp tells Sanji to come with him and meet the three idiots he had for a crew. And Sanji knows them, of course. He takes a drag of his cigarette, stares at them, and instantly goes "Ninjin, Piiman, Tamanegi" pointing at all of them correctly. They're astonished, but before they can say anything, Sanji squints his eyes at them "I remember because you look like vegetables-" / (Usopp): Ooookay, Sanji, babe, enough!" And he changes the subject to ask if Kaya is home right now. The kids say yes. Yadda yadda yadda, and they start walking to her house. (On their way to Kaya's, btw: "If I cook tonight we're not having vegetables, I would feel bad-"/ "Sanji!" / "C'mon, it's funny- They're cute, I swear. Like cute little potatoes-" / "Do you want me to punch you?" / "If we have children, do you think they'd look more like a radish or a cauliflow- / "Dumbass. And those are the only children we're having for a while. Get used to them." / "Wait, I was joking! Do you- You want children? With me? I-" / "Sanji, please, not today.")

So they get to Kaya's and... And Sanji is excited. Nervous. But excited. Nami won't stop teasing Usopp about it, too. And he's not worried. He's okay. He's not anxious. Everything's gonna be okay and she will love the person he has become. Definitely. Nothing to worry about. But he's visibly shaking, and he didn't expect Sanji to be the one holding his hand to calm him down, but it happens. And he couldn't be happier.

So, of course, Luffy can't be fucking quiet and starts knocking on the door and yelling for Kaya to come to greet them. Even if it was supposed to be a surprise. And Nami says "Gosh, Luffy, calm down! She can hear you. Everyone can hear you, actually. Shut up and wait for-" but she can't finish her sentence because Merry is already there with the biggest of smiles, opening the door for them. Usopp just says a soft "Hi!" while Luffy wastes no time in going in.

Nami: Luffy! Wait for a damn second! Merry: Oh, well, not that we can control the King of the Pirates, can we? Nami: You don't need to tell me. Franky: You look like Merry. Merry: ... I am Merry? Franky: No, I mean the ship- Usopp: Franky, we've explained this to you. Franky: Not the part where the butler looks exactly like the ship, though? Usopp: Oh. True. Well. There you have it.

Everything happens a bit quickly. Kaya is walking down the stairs when they're walking in, and the second she sees Usopp she just has to hug him tight. Sanji steps away because, well, he doesn't want to get in between their reunion. And everyone thinks he's jealous or weird about it, but it only takes a moment to realize he's staring at them with the fondest of looks in his eyes. She's the most beautiful girl he's ever seen (apart from Nami and Robin, of course. But it's another type of beauty) and there's just this glimpse in his eyes nobody can actually describe.

Usopp and Kaya kiss and he starts to feel a bit dizzy because- Wow. Remembering her kisses is just as overwhelming as he thought it'd be. She's precious. He says they'll tell her all about their adventures. That he has truly become somebody she can be proud of. She says she has always been proud of him, and Usopp dies a little bit with that. When she's done staring at him, she tilts her head to the side saying hi to everyone else and she spots Sanji, hands on each side of him and bouncing his right leg. She lets go of Usopp to approach Sanji and grab his hands, and with a soft, tender smile, she says "I'm so glad you've been looking out for him. I've heard so many great things about you, Sanji! I truly hope we get to know each other better" and Sanji dies. Sanji instantly dies. Not from a nosebleed but a heart attack, probably. He's speechless for a whole second and nobody says anything. Because this sweet girl just said this in front of everyone and let's be honest, everybody is wondering how the fuck Sanji and Usopp are the ones with enough rizz to pull this wonderful girl. Anyway- I can imagine Jinbe laughing and saying "Usopp! You have a type!" and he's being genuine and sweet but it's so fucking embarrassing the sniper just wants to curl up and die.

Luffy, Nami, and Zoro see Kaya again and it's so, so sweet to see her being a doctor just like she wanted. She's healthy. She's adorable, like always. And she welcomes them into her house gladly. Kaya says hi to the rest and she. Absolutely. Adores. Chopper. That's probably the cutest doctor she's ever seen, and also the smartest! If Usopp and Sanji didn't need to talk with her, she'd probably spend the day talking to Chopper. She also gets along with the older members of the crew! They're all just so nice to her <3 Robin comments about how Usopp and Sanji have been talking a lot about her and Kaya giggles but it makes Usopp want to run away to a private place as quickly as he can. If Robin is the one talking about this, this means they will all keep the embarrassing conversation going and he can't have that.

They decide to stay for dinner, the way they had planned because Sanji is dying to cook for her and they just knew Kaya wouldn't let them go without having dinner with her. Besides, they've been staying for a while in every island so that they can enjoy their time with each person and decide what they want to do next. If they want to, you know, stay with the crew or choose to keep going with their lives outside of being a pirate (everyone chill, they're staying together. At least for a long while until they're old. Because otherwise, I will cry). So, Sanji cooks while the crew waits around the house. Talking to Merry and Kaya and wow!! The kids are staying too!! Awesome!! Usopp is in the kitchen with Sanji because he just needs a second to calm down. It's too much. In a good way! But god, he needs a second.

Usopp helps Sanji with a few things while they talk about everything and nothing. A kiss here and there. And then, Usopp is suddenly a bit uncomfortable about what he's about to say. "What do you think about, um, Kaya?" / "Are you really asking me that?" / "Yeah! Why wouldn't I? Maybe you don't- Fuck. I don't know. Maybe now that you've seen us together you don't want-" / "I want to, Usopp. More than anything." / "Really?" / "Yeah. She- She makes you happy. She even makes me happy and I just met her. And- I don't know. I guess she just looks a lot like my-"

But then the kitchen door opens quickly and it's closed just as fast, because Kaya is there, resting her back against the wall and smiling shyly at them both.

Kaya: Hi! Hi. I- Am I interrupting or-? Sanji/Usopp: No! Kaya: Oh! Oh, okay! I just thought It'd be nice for us to be together for a while? Alone? Usopp: ...... Luffy is being- Kaya: Nami? Usopp: Oh, fuck, yes, makes more sense. Sanji: Nami-san can be a bit assertive sometimes, but it's alright. Kaya: So it's okay if I stay? Usopp: Kaya, it's your kitchen- Sanji: Of course, madame. You're gonna be the first one to taste our dinner, then. I need opinions. Kaya: Oh, I'm not a cook. But I am sure your food is excellent! Sanji: Indulge me, please? Eat whatever you like. Usopp, whispering: Why are you being more romantic than me? She's my girlfriend. Sanji: And I am your boyfriend. She's, like, my girlfriend too, now. Usopp: Does that work like that? Sanji: Uh, not sure? Kind of? Usopp: ... As long as you two are happy. Sanji: You should eat too, by the way, mon amour. I am being serious when I say I want feedback.

They end up spending a long while together making dinner. While Usopp tells her about their adventures, she tells her about her life without him and her studies. How much she has been trying to help the village, too, and how the kids have been doing. Sanji asks them their opinions on the food. Asks them for help, too, if needed. And everything ends up being so domestic and nice that Usopp is surprised Kaya and Sanji just met. They're so in sync and they look so pretty together they even look like a couple already. Usopp thought he'd end up feeling left out (because he always does) but there's just something about them being together that makes his heart melt.

Skipping the dinner part, because it's just all of them having fun as usual and besides a few cute glances and blushes and compliments, there isn't anything remarkable about Sanusokaya here. They end up in Kaya's room after dinner, while the other crew members go do whatever. They have designated rooms and beds (the place is a fucking mansion, and there's room for everyone).

The thing is, they go to Kaya's room to talk about... Them. They don't know where to begin, so Usopp breaks the silence by telling Kaya about how he met Sanji. Things she already knows from letters, but she hasn't actively heard. And it's obviously more entertaining this way. So Sanji and Kaya sit on her bed while Usopp talks. And one thing leads to another and he's also explaining Skypiea. And Water 7. And when he gets to Dressrosa, something they had already talked about during dinner, Sanji decides to explain what happened back in Whole Cake Island. He didn't have this in mind. Opening up so much, he means. But there's just something about Kaya that makes him want to keep talking. So he explains a bit (not everything, of course) about his past. And she's so, so sweet about it. Holds his hand all the time. Rests her cheek on his shoulder. Usopp kisses both of their foreheads. And that's when Sanji stares at Kaya and says:

Sanji: You know? You remind me a lot of her. My mother, I mean. Kaya: Do I? The way you talk to her is so wonderfu- Sanji: You are wonderful. Kaya: Oh- Usopp: Sanji, you can't say that to her! That's my job. You're wonderful, babe. Kaya: Thanks, darling. I just- I was thinking that it could... If you are okay with it. Maybe I'm overstepping. That it could also be his job? God, I am explaining this awfully. I am a doctor, not a writer- Usopp: He would love to be your boyfriend. Sanji: Don't answer for me! Usopp: Weren't you going to say yes? Sanji: In a more romantic way, yes. Of course. Kaya: Really?! Usopp: I think he likes you more than he likes me- Sanji: Idiot. Don't ever say things like that. He's always so- Kaya: No, yes, you have to force the love into his head, huh? Sanji: Exactly! Usopp: Don't get too excited, Kay. He's just like that too. You say something good about him and he starts sobbing.

Long story short, they sleep together in Kaya's room, all tangled up and cuddling because they're the cutest, most adorable couple in the world. They stay for a while in the Village and spend some days together, growing closer and clingier every day. And sadly they have to say goodbye because they want to keep going with their journey (they have stuff to do. They tried to bring Kaya along, but she's the doctor of the village. She can't leave them alone) but she knows they'll come back to her. She trusts them to

Spades in Thriller Bark part 1

This is part of my idea that Masked Deuce, Mihar, and Skull follow Ace in his quest to

Meeting Brook

The day starts out fairly normal. Well as normal as things can be on the sunny with 2 members of the ASL brotherhood on board.

That is until a they find a sea offering. Both Robin (archeologist and most experienced of both crews) and Skull (pirate enthusiast) explain what the sea offering is and what the crew should do if they want to open the crate up.

Luffy offers a quick prayer of “god we’re stealing your stuff.” Which gets a roll of the eyes from Ace, and a chuckle from the other Spades. Until Zoro responds with “now your praying to god? Didn’t you beat up god on sky island? Don’t pray to god he’s a jerk.” And now Ace and the spades have so many questions, because what do you mean Luffy fought god?

But they aren’t going to have the opportunity to ask any of those questions because the barrel explodes sending Luffy flying as a giant red orb appears over the ship. Everyone tenses up, waiting for an attack. Ace is super stressed because what if Blackbeard saw that?

But they can’t worry for long because Nami is yelling about a storm and the Spades are looking around at the Strawhats like they are crazy as they run around prepping for a storm that isn’t visible. Yes the Grandline is knows for quick weather but no one predicts it that far in advance. Except Nami is right. Luffy laughs at their shock, “my navigator is the best! Nami always knows when a storms going to hit.

They survive the storm but end up in the Florian Triangle, where they come upon a ghost ship.

Luffy is ready to jump aboard. But the cowards trio is freaking out, until they realize everyone else is ready to leave them behind on the ship and go to the ghost ship. Even all of the Spades are ready to go. This is great for Deuces book, Mihar and Ace want an adventure, and Skull is #1 pirate enthusiasts, a ghost boat is a dream for him.

Zoro steps in as the responsible person. He knows he can’t stop Luffy or Ace seeing as both brothers are ready to jump ship. But he can send some responsible people with them while also defending the ship. They draw straws and the party jumping to the ship is Luffy, Ace, Nami, Sanji, and Skull.

When they get over there and meet Brook, Ace is not the least bit surprised that Luffy asks him to join his crew. Zoro tries to shame the four of them when they return to the Sunny for letting Luffy bring back a “pet skeleton” but Ace looks at him and says “do you really think anyone can stop Luffy once he’s picked out a Namaka?” No the answer is no.

They sit down with Brook and get to know him. Deuce is furiously writing down notes about the skeleton’s life while the others listen to his sad tale.

That is until they run into a wall. When they realize they are trapped Ace is relieved, It’s not Blackbeard, but it is an unknown threat. And he’s been inching to fight something for a while. He hasn’t had a good fight since Blackbeard (and that wasn’t a good fight) the silly ice skating bounty hunters do not count as a good fight either.

The first split up.

Nami Usopp, Chopper, and Skull go to the island.

When Franky shows them the Mini Merry, Nami, Usopp, Chopper and Skull take it for a joy ride. They end up trapped on the island.

Most to their adventure is the same except there is no creeping on Namin in the bathroom. Skull has a weird array of knowledge and he has a bad feeling about this place. When Nami says she’s going to take a bath, skull argues that their could be ghost, or moving painting that could be watching her and talks her out of going.

Basically skull prevents a lot Nami’s problems. The creepy dude is still there but he’s got to get through skull to get to Nami. And it’s not that skulls over protective, he’s just got a weird patchwork of knowledge. He’s just lucking out that it’s all applicable in this situation

Luffy Ace, Franky Mihar, Robin, Zoro, Sanji, and Deuce follow

They chase after the four who went on the mini merry.

Creepy dude messes with them on the boat. But when he grabs Robin, the multiple arms she puts up to hold him back gives Ace a pretty good idea of where the creep is and he’s able to fire fist the man off the Sunny.

The go to shore and Ace isn’t even surprised when Luffy takes the fake Cerberus. Mihar, Deuce and Franky are but no one else. If anything it makes walking to the castle easier as they are all taking turns riding the thing.

Ace makes getting to the castle a lot easier as he’s just torching his way through the zombies. They run from him in terror.

When they get to the castle, they do start losing crew members. The spiders are still able to pick people off

Sanji and Mihar get taken at the same time

Luffy

They can’t get Ace, he would burns through the webs. Moria originally wanted Ace’s shadow for Ora but Luffy was easier to catch.

They are fighting through the herd of zombie generals and Ace is already furious. They are missing so many people. He just lost Deuce and he and Luffy just got separated. He sees Robin and yells to her to get Luffy and Franky out and he torches the room. He runs out to meet up with them only to find Luffy missing. His heart stops for a moment until he hears Luffy yelling. He loooks up to see the coffin holding Luffy being pulled across the the castle. He’s about to go after it but is stopped by the spider monkey.

Franky destroys the bridge, him and Robin working together to avoid falling to their death. Ace uses his devil fruit to fly up. He gives them a hand, so Robin doesn’t step on Franky’s face to save herself, instead being caught by Ace, while Franky is able to pull himself to the ledge.

Brook purifies the spider monkey

Ace, Franky and Robin meet with Brook. When they learn what has happened to their friends, that Moria has stolen their shadows, Ace is furious. But he’s also so worried. If they don’t defeat Moria he’ll lose Luffy and Deuce! (As well as Zoro, Sanji, and Mihar)

They return to the ship, picking up Usopp, Chopper, and Skull on the way. Once they get there and find their friends safe and sound they debrief and plan their next move.

Ace wants to rush Moria and deep fry that man. How dare he take Luffy, Deuce and the other’s shadows. How dare he endanger Ace’s loved ones.

Deuce stops him. “Remember what happened the last time you ran off without a plan?” He’s not trying to rub salt in the wound, but he wants Ace to think things through, and depend on the people around him.

“Come on Ace I want to kick Moria’s ass!” Luffy calls. And Ace remembers just who he’s with. He can trust these people. He’s still scared. If they don’t succeed by sunrise he could lose his little brother, their crewmates and Deuce. But he’s…no they aren’t going to fail.

Ora’s breaks the building sending Sanji, Skull and Usopp down.

Robin, Chopper and Mihar

fight against Dr. Hogback. Mihar trying to snipe the salt into Zoro, Deuce, Mihar, and Sanji’s zombies while Robin and Chopper try to set him up. (Part of me wants to put Deuce here because of Chopper’s rage at Dr. Hogback as a doctor. It might be fun to have the other doctor there as well, still making decisions)

Luffy and Ace

run ahead to fight Moria. And the fight really freaks Ace out, when Moria’s shadow appears all he can think of is the last fight he was in when a dark shape was throwing him around. He knows it’s not Teach but so a second he’s thrown off, it’s enough for Moria’s shadow to get a cheep shot in and for Luffy to step in to protect him. And now Ace is angry, at himself for having Luffy protect him, and at this creep for taking Luffy and the other’s shadows. (To be fair he was already mad about that)

The two of them are tied up trying to fight Moria.

Usopp

still fight Perona on his own. As he is the only one in the group that her powers don’t work on.

Sanji

still separates to go save Nami (but we’re going to cut his creep dream for the clear clear fruit.

Zoro, Franky, Brook, Deuce, and Skull

Zoro still fights Shimotsuki Ryuma. Franky and Deuce are moving Brook away from the fight. Deuce came along as a doctor to make sure the skeleton was okay. He’s not sure how he would treat Brook if he was hurt but he wanted the option. Skull is with them too and he’s having the best time watching Zoro fight.

Ora arrives

Luffy’s shadow finally combines with Ora and he returned to Moria.

And isn’t it disturbing for Ace to hear his baby brother’s voice, distorted as it is, coming from that monster.

Moria attached not just the Strawhat’s bounty posters but also Ace and the Spade’s.

Ace and Luffy still chase after Moria but everyone else get attacked by Ora.

Fighting Ora

They are all fighting Ora but they are struggling. Franky decides to try out his “Docking” plan. Usopp and Chopper know what’s going on but no one else does. Zoro and Sanji get roped in, but Robin refuses. Deuce and Mirah can’t believe what they are looking at. Franky, Chopper and Usopp call out for Robin to join them, but she refuses. Skull is very excited to take her place, but Ora punch’s Franky before he can.

Zoro’s embarrassed that he just didn’t ‘that’ leads the charge to actually attack Ora. And while the Spades are helping they are also blown away by just how strong this crew is as they knock Ora’s down.

But the giant gets back up. Franky decides to dock again. This time with only Usopp, Chopper, and an enthusiastic Skull. With Sanji’s help they get on top of the beast and start…. Kicking it? Deuce, Robin, Mihar, Zoro, and Sanji are embarrassed that these are their crew mates. But the four are able to get the beast to punch itself in the head so a win a win.

They realize that the thing still acts like Luffy at times and the Strawhats use that to their advantage while the spades follow their lead.

Zoro makes the decision to fight Ora alone. He wants to win, while Usopp argues they should just trust in Luffy and Ace. Zoro does trust Luffy and Ace, but he knows Luffy is gullible. He looks to Deuce and asks if Ace is the same. Deuce says not nearly as bad as Luffy but he is a hot head who rushes in without thinking. Zoro nods and explains that they have to beat Ora. They only have half an hour until sunrise. Beating Ora will give Luffy more time to fight Moria. Even if the sun rise kills Zoro, Sanji, Mihar, and Deuce they will at least have give Luffy the opportunity to win. (Zoro’s idea)

The realization that they are going to burn to death hits Deuce, Mihar, and Sanji like a truck but they all agree to keep fighting. Zoro and Sanji won’t lose their captain. Deuce and Mihar won’t let Ace lose his little brother.

Kuma’s arrival.

He still runs into Nami at the Sunny, sending Perona away.

He asked Nami if it’s true that Stawhat Luffy has a brother, to which she responds and asks if he means Ace.

Now here’s where I need some ideas. How does Teach get to warlord status?

He didn’t. But he told them about Ace’s relationship with to Luffy

He got it by revealing Ace’s heritage and relation to Luffy making both their bounties sky rocket as Teach told the government that Luffy was Ace’s biological brother

Marcos came after him after Ace and the Spades checked in with the Whitebeard. He and teach battled and Marcos lost.

Or a different idea all together (please send me ideas)

Love the designs and descriptions you did for the straw hats!! I do want to ask, since they all have different roles and skills do they meet the crew at different points in the story? Like, since Robin is the shipwright would she have met the crew at Water 7 or would it still be Alabasta but under different circumstances? Since she’s not an archeologist she wouldn’t have been raised on O’Hara, right?

i kept everything mostly the same in terms of when the strawhats meet each person. i didn’t want to change too much to avoid changing important character moments that happen in canon

this isn’t a super heavy rewrite, there’s a lot of backstory to juggle and i’m not equipped to write such an in-depth au rn 😭 but i might make separate posts for arcs like water 7 or wci!! though i kept a lot of backstory the same theres a lot of rewrite potential for those sagas

nami, vice capt.

not much changes!! instead of forcing her to chart maps, arlong might just have her around as a servant girl. regardless, the deal to buy back cocoyashi village still stands and nami works hard for it

generally i think her selflessness and loyalty to her village makes her fit to be a vice captain. she looks out for people at her own detriment and was willing to take the fall for such much ahhh

in my opinion she’s good vice captain material!! perhaps a cowardly one but still reliable. also a good treasurer for the crew as always

zoro, cook

zoro grew up training to be a swordsman and competes against kuina, but he also has a knack for cooking as a hobby. he’s mostly the same but sanji’s “stuck on a rock in the middle of the ocean with zeff” happens to him instead (flute-of-pan suggested the cook always suffers the fate of starvation)

kuina decides to run away and zoro is roped into her plans. it goes wrong and they get stranded on a rock, eventually arguing and ending up on opposite sides of the rock with the little food they brought

zoro finds out kuina gave him everything they had soon after she stops replying to him. he’s rescued thanks to kuina’s dad, who tracked them down with vivre cards. kuina’s had long since burned up

similar to canon, zoro continues striving to become the world’s strongest after her death. i think this backstory coupled with him eating those stomped riceballs at the very beginning of the story is so….(GESTURE) it’s very reminiscent of sanji’s no-waste-policy which he would absolutely also have

sanji, sniper

germa 66 has a mafia aesthetic now 👍i only have the willpower to draw reiju here she ended up kind of cluttered but i like my vision

sanji’s backstory is mostly the same: he and his siblings are genetically modified to be the perfect soldiers, but he had a kind nature that made him the target of abuse. after reiju helps him escape, he ends up with zeff and worked as a janitor. zeff loses his leg while trying to save sanji in a maritime accident; though they don’t get stranded anywhere, sanji has to be indebted to him somehow

when the baratie is opened, he works as a busser/guard against unruly guests. flute-of-pan mentioned that he could fire the canons of the ship

when the strawhats meet him on the baratie, sanji still gives don krieg’s crew food. i don’t think his kindness around that would disappear just bc he doesn’t have a whole starving incident

usopp, navigator

on top of bluffing about being the leader of a huge pirate army, he would create fake maps and brag to everyone in syrup village (especially kaya) about these places he so evidently visited. kaya loved his drawings even if the places weren’t real

his dream is to create a Real map of the whole world, not a fake map that he makes up out of stories. drafting the real world makes him a brave explorer of the seas, which he also wants to become :)

when the strawhats meet him, they were basically relying on nami’s limited sailing skills to get around. not only do they get the going merry but they have a real, reliable navigator now! AND he’s multitalented B)

chopper, helmsman

from a young age he set his sights on sailing the seas to escape from the isolation he faced on drum island. he would routinely make little boats for himself to escape the island on, failing each time, and hiriluk would always nurse him back to health

instead of studying to be a doctor, chopper has a general desire to be helpful and acted as an assistant to hiriluk’s medical endeavors

both flute-of-pan and onethousandsunnies pitched that chopper studied stuff like ocean currents!! overall he studied the ocean real hard but would never leave the island without hiriluk

hiriluk’s death would glue him to doctor kureha’s side and it isn’t until the strawhats come that he has the courage to embark on a new journey

franky, muscian

bro grew up running around water 7 trying to get people to join his band. tom and iceberg are still his family. his shipbuilding skills don’t go past an amateur level in this au. he would develop a line of dinky guitars (or instruments in general) that also had lasers/canons/confetti in them. his dream is A FRANKY WORLD TOUR 🤞FREE ADMISSION

many of his weaponized instruments littered the shipyard, spandam uses them in his attack

after the whole tom/spandam situation unfolds, iceberg is the one to find and reconstruct franky into a cyborg after getting run over by the sea train. but he won’t implement piano key abs no matter how much franky asks 🙄

the newly formed franky family protect the city and throw unsolicited concerts in the middle of the street B)

robin, shipwright

though she’s not an archeologist, she still grew up on ohara! instead of archeology, she’s a gifted engineer. her devil fruit made her an outcast and her strange, misunderstood inventions did not help her case

when jaguar d saul gets stranded on ohara, robin constructs the raft for him :) the buster call unfolds the same as canon except this time, everyone’s actually not lying when they say robin can’t read poneglyphs! she never learned!! again flute-of-pan had the cool idea that she is wrongly accused. still, she’s pursued and branded as a devil child

she ends up with crocodile, who believes she can read poneglyphs. she takes advantage of this and earns his protection from the government but her ruse is uncovered when she lies to croc about what alabasta’s poneglyph says (girl cannot read that!)

robin dreams of creating a ship that can carry her and the friends she wishes to have. after meeting robin in alabasta she joins the strawhats!!

brook, doctor

he was the doctor of the rumbar pirates. an injured laboon came to like brook after he nursed him back to health!! when yorki became sick from disease brook tried his hardest to cure him, but failed :(

he was doomed to watch his crewmates die to poison that he cannot hope to cure because he himself was also dying. when he came back thru his fruit it was already too late :( the rumbar pirates Do record a song for laboon though this event cannot be edited 🤞

met in thriller bark; ik that’s a long ass time to go without a real doctor on board

by the time they meet brook everyone’s already so battered that he has to go to town on them with gauze and stitches. the company delights him ^_^

jinbei, archeologist

i mentioned this in the first post abt this au but his interest in history sparked thanks to the history of joyboy and fishman island being so intertwined. at some point in his youth, jinbei frequently visited ohara (prior to the buster call) and grew a strong relationship with the scholars there (i’m just assuming they wouldn’t be racists 🤪) he runs into robin a handful of times

he secretly learns how to read poneglyphs here leading up to the buster call. he wasn’t on the island when it happened so he managed to avoid robin’s fate

his story proceeds the same from there with the neptune army, joining fisher tiger, meeting koala, etc…

i enjoy the idea of getting invited to be a warlord by the government while simultaneously being one of the most wanted people in the world for knowing poneglyph secrets

Smoker starred as the kid with the strawhat smiled, so easily accepting his death. He had seen hardened criminals sob and beg and plead for their lives before death. Did he smile because he knew he would be saved? No that couldn't be there was no way he would have known that lightning would strike at the right moment and spot. That could only mean that his life would come to an end and he had simply accepted it.

“Captain Smoker! Shouldn't we…”

“Hey…have you ever seen a pirate who smiled during his execution?” Smoker asked.

“S smile? I'm sure that even the most wicked pirate would turn pale and cower at the moment of his death,” he shrugged off with a chuckle.

“But that's what he did! The boy in the starwhat, Monkey D. Luffy, he smiled…” Just like Him, Smoker would never forget that day. “He smiled that same damn smile as the pirate king! Twenty-two years ago on that exact same spot!” Smoker was pissed off he couldn't believe that history is repeating itself! He headed out the door to stop the pirates from leaving. “Where did they run off two?” Smoker cared not for rain that stuck to his skin and clothes.

“They headed for the western harbor,” A fellow Marine, one his subordinates informed him, pointing in the right direction.

“One of our squads should be there by now,” Smoker spoke, knowing it was only a matter of time before they were stopped.

“Well, that's the thing,” The other marine started, Smoker turned to glare at him. “Ummm well the sudden rain has rendered their gunpowder useless. So they headed back to the station to resupply.”

“So the harbor is completely clear!?” Smoker yelled. He glanced up towards the sky, the rain hitting his face as he observed the storm clouds overhead. “The winds are blowing west…so if they were to set sail they would catch the tailwind.” What the hell kinda luck did this kid have?! “Is this all purely coincidence?! It's as if the heavens themselves want that boy to live!” Smoker wouldn't stand for this, she would have his head one way or another. “On the pride of a Captain of the Marines I Smoker the white hunter, vow to not allow that boy to escape this island!”

“Jeez these guys are so persistent. Should we just stop and fight them off?” Luffy asked as they ran through the streets of that damn town.

“Don't, there will be no end to them. More importantly, Nami wants us to return to the ship as soon as possible. As possible. We don't want to risk the Merry being swept away without us, we may be strong but the marina has more man power and weapons. Not to mention the weird clown guy,” Sanji informed their captain.

“Curls has a point Luffy,“ Zoro hated to run from a fight but now was not the time. He hated to admit it but they might not make it out if they stop fighting.

“Ah! Who's that pretty lady waiting for us?” Sanji asked, Zoro turned towards where Sanji was looking.

“Roronoa Zoro!” There stood a very angry Tashigi, looking like she found out who he was. “To think you were Roronoa Zoro the whole time! A bounty hunter turned pirate! You were just toying with me the entire time!”

“Mosshead what fuck did you do to her!?” Sanji unhelpfully yelled at him. “Just because we went on a date doesn't mean I'll let you get away with hurting women! She's very clearly upset at what you did to her!”

“I will take back Wado Ichimonji and the other two while I'm at it!” She screamed at him. “I don't care if it belonged to your dojo master’s daughter, you're a disgrace! A criminal!”

“I'd like to see you try,” he sneered as his hold on Wado tightened, he was not appreciating what this Kunia-clone Tashigi chick was insinuating. Wado was not just a sword, it was a promise to his first friend and rival. In that breath, Tashigi clashed Shigure against Wado. Without turning his sights away from the swordswoman, Zoro tilted towards where he thought the pier was, “Go ahead Cap, Curls, I’ll catch up.”

“Ok,” Luffy grabbed Sanji's arm and dragged him away. This was one area in which they would never agree. Maybe one day they could discuss it but today was not that day.

After a brief clash of blades, Zoro had released hers’ far from her hands. She had potential but needed to work much harder and longer to reach his skill set. He had pines to the wall. He was close enough to see the rage and a bit of fear but resignation in her eyes. He couldn’t bring himself to cut her, call it whatever you wanted and he wouldn’t give a damn. He couldn’t cut down his dead best friend’s doppelganger.

“I can't hand this sword over to anyone ever! This is more than just a sword, it's a promise,” Zoro replaced his swords, softly backing away in the continuing rainfall. “I'll be on my way then.”

“Why didn't you cut me down!?” Tashgi screamed at him. Zoro stopped and looked back at her, her hair was sticking to her wet face. Her eyes filled with rage and contemptment. “Is it because I'm a woman?! Because I'm not worth your time!? Only to be pitied due to my gender!?” Zoro couldn't stop picturing Kuina and her fears on the same subject. “You're lucky to be a boy Zoro…” He didn't want to relive that night. “You dare to go easy on me?! I'm serious dude!!! Just because women aren't as physically strong as men?!” Tashigi continued on. “How shameful! Of course I shouldn't expect someone like you to ever understand what wishing to be born a man would feel like! To hate your gender for the sole reason that you're not taken seriously! I knew what I was doing when I chose this path dammit! I didn't pick up my sword for fun! I work so hard to improve myself just to be taken as a joke!”

“Don't, don't say that while wearing her face!” Kunia was haunting him from beyond her grave. “I can't cut you down. You look like her,” His hands shook violently, his hand taking Wados' hilt to try and ground himself. “I don't give a damn that you're a woman! What between your legs matters not to me! It's your face! Sprouting the same things as she did before her death! We promised each other and then she died on me! Stop copying her, just stop it!” Zoro couldn't shut up. Couldn't stop talking. “For fucks’ sake, stop haunting me!”

“Wha!? I've never heard anything so childish in my entire life! I've always loved being me and only me for my entire life! You don't get to put your issues on me! I'm not your dead friend so don't treat me like her! It's insulting to both of us!” Tashgi yelled at him.

“Shut up you don't know anything!” Shut up Zoro shut up! He needed to keep his mouth shut!

Heeyy, when it comes to One Piece, one of the things I recall myself asking what the straw hats will do after well, accomplishing their Dreams since it isn't likely that the marines will be able to follow Luffy to Raftel and everyone else getting their Dreams has been a work in progress.

I imagine the romance dawn trio will probably stick together considering Luffy can just continue adventuring or go off somewhere, Nami wants to draw a world map so either she goes with him to "New islands" or helps Sanji make a restaurant on the All Blue. Zoro feels like he either will go to Wano since it fits him or roam around with Luffy as alone he just wanders off.

Brook will most likely go on big adventures with Laboon or just stay his resting years with him (since we don't know how long he still has), Usopp will probably just stay home and tell stories for everyone or reside in Elbaff. Sanji the restaurant thing or stay with Zeff. Chopper could be with Kureha or travel around healing everyone and finding New herbs. Robin will most likely either return to Ohara and start rebuilding, stay with the revolutionaries or travel around to find more ruins. Jinbei will likely stay an ambassador for the fisherman or retire. And Franky return to Water Seven and put the Sunny to rest.

With all the Straw Hats meeting each other a couple of times a year to embark on some adventure. What do you think?

i haven't really thought about it much beyond: they should stick together afterwards regardless.

because what i love about the setting of this story being about pirates, (beside that it's about people on a ship and needing the numbers to keep sailing) - is that they're outside of the norms and world's expectations, they even actively break out of those rules and do what they want. of course 'what they want' could mean to separate and go their own way, i just feel it doesn't really fit this group, and honestly wouldn't want to see that by the end.

achieving everyone's dreams could take a long time, a whole lifetime even for some of them, and i'm not sure we would even see that in the manga - it could be still a distant future to which they're all sailing towards to, to what they're aspiring to reach.

i feel luffy would want to keep exploring and sailing the world after becoming the pirate king OR even after achieving his true dream (which we still have no idea what's it about).

i can't imagine anything else but all the 10 strawhats just staying together. one of luffy's biggest fears is being alone - he even said it's a worse thing than being hurt.

i think zoro - thanks to luffy - found his own purpose and course pointing where to go and what to protect - luffy and the group. (and i'm not even going into the territory of zoro being the first one calling luffy captain, and what all it entails to be luffy's right hand man, wanting to stay by his side even at the cost of his own dream). plus he would get SOOO lost without them!

nami has the best reason to stay as well, wanting to draw the maps of the world. as you said, the romance dawn trio especially would definitely stick together for a long time, since luffy and zoro can't recognize north from south, or left from right - they need their navigator.

but even with the others, i think it would make so much sense for them to stay at luffy's side - usopp would have many more new adventures he could keep adding to his story repertoire and retell to either kaya and his village when visiting, or just anyone who would want to hear about the great adventures of strawhat luffy. and luffy literally needs sanji as his cook to keep him alive lol, even after luffy becoming the pirate king i can't see sanji going somewhere else. they wouldn't get far without sanji!

chopper, robin, franky - it would all make sense that they want to keep sailing with sunny, franky to keep her sail-worthy condition for the pirate king crew. chopper would reach more people he could help with his doctor skills, robin to gather more knowledge and history of the various places around the world.

i think there would be a journey back to laboon for brook to have closure with it, but luffy mentioned so early on he wanted a musician on his ship, i don't think brook - who found a new purpose to keep living thanks to luffy, even as a talking skeleton - would want to abandon that cheerful crew that became his new home. same with jimbei, who despite being previously a captain on his own, still has a lot of knowledge to impart on those who would listen and despite all the shenanigans he now keeps witnessing - he loves them all so much.

i understand those headcanons, where after all of their dreams are accomplished the strawhats would some far time in the future part ways, but it doesn't sit well with me.

for this particular story, and for what luffy means to them and what he brought to them (freedom, joy and being able to follow their dreams), it feels more honest to their characters to just stay as a pirate crew. along the way they might pick up new members, strays or people in need of a better home - just like roger's pirates before luffy, and keep having adventures and feasts together for as long as possible!

I've got a lot of ideas in my head while reading One Piece. My post schedule can't keep up with these ideas 😔.

Well I'm going to keep posting everyday then 😁, is the solution 👍🏻😉.

So this time I'm sharing a realization on my part as I observe Zoro and Robin when I read One Piece. So this is a Zorobin post if you don't like it skip it because this post is for those who ship Robin and Zoro or for those people whose brains are being tickled.

Within the Zorobin community, we know that Zoro has saved Robin a couple of times. But we must also keep in mind that Zoro has also saved the other strawhats as well whether they be weak or strong.

This is also the reason that the antis use "Because Robin is a member of strawhats so he will save her" and this reason is also true.

Zoro would never be worried about them (in battle) since he believes in them except maybe at the Alabasta arc where he was actually worrying about Nami (which at the time she has minimal fighting ability and can't take a stronger opponent unlike the Nami now).

Regarding the statement above he doesn't worry about Robin because he knew that Robin might not be as strong as them (the monster trio) but he knew she is strong and can take an opponent.

But why do this? (I really want to do the chef's kiss 😎)

All of them were dealing with a lot of enemies right? Be it a minion or an officer it is still an enemy. In my delulu mind I've got this thought as a headcanon that Zoro was actually paying attention to Robin and to her surroundings.

But let's also say that he might have noticed the commotion around Hyouzou and the fact that Hyouzou was a swordman too.

But why wait for Hyouzou to attack Robin 🤔. Unless my headcanon is actually right. Some also say that Robin can't take Hyouzou on. Are you sure?

Because for me with how fast the mind can Robin think she would have probably spawned somewhere because remember this?

I have also observed this at Punk Hazard. Though subtly but if you have look at it panel by panel then you will notice this.

This is before when they met the dragon. The four of them were actually gawking at the giant bone which is on their front. Notice how Zoro was actually ahead of Robin?

Then take a look at this as well.

Notice how they actually turned around when they noticed a loud noise behind them and realized that it was a dragon.

Then looked at this.

How come that he's now in front of Robin 🫠 (let me melt as well). I also took note that for every battle Zoro would reach out first for Shusui but in this panel he actually reached for Kitetsu.

If you actually go back to Eines Lobby (this might be a delusion but I had to share it). Zoro used the sandai kitetsu to attack Lucci. He temporarily lost it when he was stuck in the chimney, like also lost Robin temporarily in that arc.

Plus I have this gut feeling that Sandai Kitetsu is very special. There is also a theory that Sandai Kitetsu was an inheritance that Zoro's grandmother had inherited from her father and she passed it down to Zoro's father which was lost when the pirates attacked them. After all Sandai Kitetsu is a sword that came from Wano.

But before we could get side tracked, I must persist to continue. The fact that he was reaching for Kitetsu is like an instinct and this is also probably the same for protecting Robin. It's already ingrained in his very being it's his instinct.

You know Zoro is all about "gender equality" right? The fact that he actually attacked miss monday and showed no mercy 😁. But there are times when Zoro has a soft heart as well remember the nun and the kid he used the back of his swords.

He would also save a defenseless woman like Hiyori and protect a kid like Rika and attack a celestial dragon to protect a wounded man (he would literally save any innocent and defenseless person in my opinion). His gender equality only applies in battle and fighting.

So why protect Robin when he knew Robin could handle it. My headcanon before can also be supported by this.

Whew, 😓 this is really long. But I can't help it I am an INTP. I had to go deep or else my mind won't be satisfied. My intuitive mind is grinding its gears, this gut feeling I have every time I see them and the fact that my mind can see invisible threads means that they have this deep connection that my emotionless heart can't explain.

The need to study them further is what I should do.

Congrats, you have a whole family now, including the older siblings (Sanji, Zoro), middle siblings (Nami, Usopp), younger siblings (Chopper, Luffy), a dad (Franky bc this is a Frobin blog), and grandpas (Brook, Jinbei)

Robin is an AMAZING mother, we have all seen how she is with Chopper, she is great

Teaches you about the world through books bc of course

Really wants to give you the childhood she never got

Engages you in all your stupid questions or behaviors bc she genuinely wants you to feel safe with her, she never belittles you or looks down on you

There are times where things get harder for her (this woman definitely has PTSD from all the shit she went through), and that is when the rest of your family takes over

Nami loves teaching you about how to steal from men and about navigation

Zoro takes naps with you under the sun and gets you to help him steal alcohol from the kitchen

Sanji teaches you to cook and about the importance of not wasting food

Franky tells you about the mechanisms of the ship with you seated on his shoulders

Chopper and you talk about random things and laugh and play

Usopp tells you ridiculous stories while helping you learn your way around a slingshot he made himself

Luffy joins in on you and Chopper running around and sometimes even grabs you and zooms himself around the ship

Brook teaches you how to sightread and tells you about his times on his old crew (and lover bc Yorki and him definitely were together lets be honest, there was tension there)

Jinbei tells you the history of his people and their struggle towards rights, anti-racist king that teaches you young

When fights break out as they often do, Robin immediately makes sure you are safe below deck and tells one of the others to stay with you just in case

You are also taught how to fight by everyone, so your fighting style is a fucked up conglomeration of all of the Strawhats, you confuse anyone who fights you

Overall, 10/10 mother I want her to adopt me
