Vibe Wednesday babyyyy!
This time continuing with cool videogames with killer soundtracks: Furi, by The Game Bakers!
youtube
I played through this game a few years ago, after buying it for extremally cheap and recognizing Carpenter Brut's logo under the soundtrack section. Turns out it was the best 5$ I've spent on a game.
I'm a sucker for neon lights, sparks and flashy visuals and not a single thing in the game disappointed me. Played through it like 4 or 5 times in total, it's always a blast.
And, of course, the soundtrack.
youtube
If names like Carpenter Brut, Waveshaper, Lorn, The Toxic Avenger or Scattle ring a bell, you're in for a blast.
Every single one of them did an amazing job and this meme applies to every artist that contributed to the OST.
Of course, I highly encourage everyone to give the game a try, or at least give the soundtrack a listen. (I even have a link straight to it for you)
If you have anything to add, or have your own vibe to share, feel free to do so! (This time I finally remembered to say this lol)

Get to know you better game! Answer the questions and tag 9 people you want to get to know better
Thanks to @got-ticket-to-ride for this!
The last song I listened to: Inner Animal by Scattle
youtube
This is a part of the Hotline: Miami soundtrack which I listen to all the time. I also made it a part of an AU I'm writing for The Beatles with similar themes to the game. Lots of blood and guts and sex ahead!
Currently Watching: Nothing. I do need to watch "Strange Angels" for research (and I promised @backbenttulips I would). I don't really "watch" shows anymore. I do watch SeanieDew and BlaDe on Youtube but I mainly use their videos to sleep so I'm not really paying attention to anything they're saying.
I did watch "Slow Horses" back when Apple TV was having a free trial and enjoyed it a lot but that was a while ago now. I also watched "Liaison" with Vincent Cassel and Eva Green and it was super good, I really loved it!
Currently Obsessed With: The Beatles really. All my friends are here and I relate everything back to them rofl. My playlists are officially out of control.
I've been trying to contribute more to the fandom lately but I caught Covid in January (I'm convinced that's what it is anyway) and now I have a sinus infection I picked up from work. Been coughing a lot and feeling extremely down. That being said I'm starting a new medication and hoping that will work out.
Maybe I need to go to the seaside for my health.
Tagging: I don't want to think up a list rn, I'm going back to bed.

Synthwave Sunday #3
Happy 2023! I missed last week, but this week I bring you You're Mine by Carpenter Brut, from the Furi original soundtrack:
youtube
Furi is one of my favorite games. (I've drawn a lot of fanart for it, haha.) I love the gameplay, the character designs, and most of all the music. A bunch of pretty big synthwave artists came together to work on the OST, including Carpenter Brut, Waveshaper, and Danger. Other artists like Lorn and Scattle did a few tracks on the OST as well.
I love Furi, and I highly recommend it if you enjoy the synthwave aesthetics and challenging gameplay, but even if you never intend on playing the game, please give the OST a listen. It's amazing and it stands pretty well on its own.
The song in question is by Carpenter Brut, one of my favorite synthwave artists. Carpenter Brut makes intense, fast paced music, which is pretty well showcased in You're Mine. This song is my favorite on the soundtrack, and is also incidentally the theme for my favorite boss in the game, a sniper whose boss fight leans heavily into the game's bullet hell elements. It's pretty intense.
I’ll post another favorite song of mine next week!
#synthwave sunday#personal#furi#carpenter brut#I haven't talked about furi in a while but it's one of those games that just constantly exists in the back of my brain#I haven't played the new DLC yet but I will soon!

Uh oh...
I got busy; Given how long it's been, I think trying to write even terse reviews for all the music would cease to be fun either to read, or to write, so I'll just share some highlights and interesting things. Part of me wants to hate [Sublime Jupiter Snake Duo] for their presentation, but their discography is just to solid for me to ignore. The group [Haggus] makes music so comically agressive that I would earnestly believe that it was a parody if told such. However, that doesn't mean for a second that I don't enjoy listening to it. In a similar vein, [Brojob] specializes in making metal with stellar guttural vocals, whose lyrics are also gleefully as gay as possible, deliberately in ways which will alienate listeners who aren't in on the joke, so to speak. It kicks ass. [Yussef Dayes] nails a particular blue and wistful atmosphere, and is so good at nailing the production of all his music that I actually noticed production for once in my life. The [Scattle] album "Sketch" doesn't have any one thing in particular that I need to point out, but I've revisited it a few times. [SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS] created some of the best music to ever scratch the very particular itch I have for jazz based music that's also irreverently aggressive with it's rough edges. It's gritty and loud and great. "Witchy Activities and the Maple Death" was a weird find, but a worthwhile listen that I checked out a few times after the ledger below ceased being updated. There's lot's of stuff I listened to but didn't record, unfortunately. In the below, I grouped all the projects that I listened to so frequently that it wouldn't make sense to even write them on any individual days.
Normally I try to respect how artists stylize their names and album titles, but for the sake of getting this typed and out, that's definitely not the case for the below. Full ledger (except for the fact that at some point I stopped recording due to being so behind): Frequent Listens (Omitted from specific days, because it would be overwhelmingly frequent): [City Hotel] All albums, repeatedly, several times a week. [Pilotredsun] "Groundhog" and "Scuffler" EP's, repeatedly [Ferenczi Gyorgy] "Mindenek Szerelme" at least ten times [Bobbing] "Year of the Newt" numerous times Notable Listens: 4-3-2024: [J3PO] "MAINS" [Squarepusher] "Just a Souvenir" [Carling & Will] "Soon comes the Night" [Lianhua] "Citrus!" [Animals as Leaders] "The Madness of Many" [Bach performed by Masaaki Suzuki] "J.S. Bach original works, Vol.5" [Venetian Snares] "Hospitality" 5-3-2024: [Frums] "Vignette" [Aphex Twin] "...I care because you do" and "come to daddy" [Boiled Buzzards] "Fine Dining" [Bele Fleck and the Flecktones] Various Albums [Floating Points et. al] "Promises" [Kamasi Washington] "Harmony of Difference" 6-3-2024: [Bele Fleck and the Flecktones] First three albums [Glasys] "Defective Humanity" [Dubmood] "Lost Tapes Vol. 2" [Disasterpeace] "Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar" [Green Lung] "Woodland Rites" [E-An-Na] "Alveolar" 7-3-2024: Several recommendations from George [Squarepusher] "Ultravisitor" [Keshi] [The Funky Knuckles] "Delicious" [Flyleaf] "Flyleaf"
8-3-2024: [Adhesive Wombat] "Sticky Tracks" 11-3-2024: [Varra] "Varra III" More recs from George [Lemon City Trio] [Bruno Major] "A song for every Moon" [zabutom] "Lost Tapes Vol. 1" 12-3-2024: [Bruno Major] "Let a good Thing Die" [Return to Forever] "Romantic Warrior" [Soiya] "You can Say Hi" [The Ollum] 13-3-2024: [Drumcorp] "Falling Forward" [Moon Tooth] "Chromaparagon" 18-3-2024: [Wanclaw Zimpel] "Long Weekend" [Justice] "Cross" Recommendations from Kenny [Squarepusher] "Solo Bass" and "Feed me Weird Things" 19-3-2024: [Squarepusher] "Ufabulum" [Mark Guliana] "Music for Doing" [5SOS] [Breaking Benjamin] "Shallow Bay" [David Hyams] "Knowing the Place" 20-3-2024: [Old & in the Way] [Nora Brown] "Cinnamon Tree" [Squrepusher] "Be up a Hello" 21-3-2024: [Arthur Verocai] "Encore" [Glasys] "Defective Humanity" and "The Pressure" [Faux Plums] "In Tongues" [The Collection] "Entropy" 22-3-2024: [Dubmood] "Lost Floppies Vol. 1" [zabutom] "Lost Floppies Vol. 2" [Aphex Twin] "Syro" [Disasterpeace] "Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar" [E-An-Na] "Alveolar" [Machine Girl] "Because I'm young, arrogant, and hate everything you stand for..." [Ween] "The Mollusk" (Large break in the ledger from when I went to visit George in person) 5-4-2023: [Green Lung] "Woodland Rites" [Grouper] "I'm Dragging a dead deer up a Hill" [Pilotredsun] "Cyber op Keys" and "Think Environment" [Moon Hooch] "Red Sky" 8-4-2024: [Mick Gordon] "Doom OST" [Scary Goldings] [By the Spirits] "We are Falling" [Queen] "The Game" [zabutom] "Lost Tapes 1" [The Orb] "Orblivion" 9-4-2024: [Lincoln Park] "Hybrid Theory" and one more album I can't make out in my notes [Irving Force] "Godmode" [Micheal Hedges] "Oracle" 10-4-2024: [zabutom] "Resolution" [ur pretty] Entire Discography [Nora Brown] "Long time to be Gone" [Evan Marian] "Elysian" [Michael Hedges] "Oracle" [Kaizo Slumber] "The Kaizo Manifesto" [Sublime Jupiter Snake Duo] "Clown" That's all for now. I'll probably get back to recording what I listen to because I like the timeline of what I was interested in, but I'll probably not write proper reviews or responses to most things, just in the interest of saving myself some time. Things I have big reactions to will definitely get some more love though.

I got inspired for this one from Flatline by Scattle that plays in Hotline Miami. So yeah it's more angst, but of a younger Frank with a pretty abusive family.
-
The monitor beeped away, filling the silence of the room a child rested in. His head is wrapped that some bits of russet hair stuck out from the bandages. His nose was stitched and covered from it being busted and cut over the top, and there was the slight smell of mint from an ointment rubbed onto bruised skin.
A nurse made sure his vitals were in check, that the heart monitor was working, and that the breathing tank is as well. She picked up the clipboard to look over the information.
Date: July 21st, 1989 Time: 3:45pm
Name: Franklin Fenik Morrison
Age: 12
Gender: Male
Blood type: AO
Reason for visit: Received hard blow to the head resulting in a concussion & bleeding, broken nose, bruises scattered over the body.
The nurse let out a sigh as she looked at the boy. She could tell the mother that is fostering him was lying about how he "fell" down the stairs. She knew such bruising was caused by someone else, and she did see the way how one of the boy's knuckles were red from hitting something, so she put two and two together in knowing this was in home violence that the family can get sued for. Especially since Frank is a foster child.
Leaving the room, she stopped upon hearing the lead doctor talking to what sounds like a frustrated woman. The nurse couldn't help herself but go over to listen behind a corner, curiosity peaking in why this woman was so frustrated.
"-said he fell down the stairs! That's how he hit his head and his nose! He's-"
"Ma'am, I ask that you please calm yourself. I'm only simply stating that the wounds Mr. Morrison received doesn't seem like something one would get from falling down the steps. The bruising on his body make it seem like as if he was struck repeatedly, rather than bumping into things."
This made the woman cross her arms with a huff. No one but her knew about her two sons beating on the 12 year old. A lot she excused as them rough housing and just "being boys," when really it went to the extent of the kid getting bruised up. The only reason they were here at this damn hospital was because one of her sons panicked at the sight of blood seeping from his head.
The doctor was going to ask her again on what had happened, but he stopped at hearing someone clear their throat behind him. Turning around, there were two police men there and Frank's social worker from child services. They came as quick as they got the call.
The doctor knew, so he lead the three to where the boy is being held up. On the way, he explained how the foster mother says he fell down some steps that caused his injury, bruised himself for attention, and that his nose broke on the way down.
The two police men looked at each other at that. They've had cases like these where parents would say one thing, but the kids say another. Not too long ago they had to deal with another foster kid who ran from his foster home to try to run to his birth mother. That one didn't end well since later the kid said she didn't matter anymore to him since she couldn't recognize him. Sad, really.
Upon entering the room, Frank started to wake up. His head felt groggy and his face and body hurt that a whine sounded from him. The social worker was quick on her feet to go over and gently brush away russet strands from his forehead, hushing him gently and saying that everything is ok now.
"Wh.... Where...am I?" His voice was hoarse sounding that even dryly swallowing it hurt a tad. Amber eyes cracked open that he squinted at the incoming light, and a hand came up to cover one of his ears since the beep of the heart monitor sounded shrill.
"You're in the hospital, Frankie. You got hurt and had to come get fixed," The woman said softly, her hand trailing down from his forehead to his cheek, right under the breathing mask. Frank moved his head away from her hand, parts of his face was still sore from the pain.
“Frank, is it?” One officer started. When Frank nodded, he nodded as well. “Now listen. I want for ya to be truthful with us, okay? We're just gonna ask you a few questions."
He felt his chest tighten at that. Amber eyes averted away as he felt the prick of tears sting his eyes. The officer caught onto that, then moved around the bed so he was in view of Frank, who still refused to look.
"Son. Something happened there, and we just need to know if this was an accident, or they hurt you."
Frank looked at the man, then looked to the door and back to the office before whispering softly. "She isn't outside... Is she?"
The three adults look at each other at that, then looked to the door. After a moment of silence, they shake their heads to confirm that the woman isn't. Frank let out a shaky sigh and nodded. He's ready now.
"Her... She lets her sons bully me... Sometimes.. they get too rough and... I'd end up with bruises and..." He took a moment to take in a shaky breath, the lady in the room telling him to take his time.
"I would try to tell her.. but she wouldn't listen and.. There was a day I bit one of them. She got mad at me for it and slapped me because I also drew blood... I ended up biting her too when she went to hit me again. She still did get me and grounded me but... I honestly didn't care. They had it coming to them."
The officer noticed how Frank's gaze seemed distance when he mentioned that he bit them. Though, he really couldn't blame the poor kid. It was self defense so it couldn't be put against him. The social worker gently placed her hand over Frank's as if to reassure him that it's ok to continue and that they're not holding his actions against him.
"But what happened... They were pushing me around.. I tried to tell them to stop, tried to make them stop. But then...” His words faltered. He remembers a sharp pain in the side of his head, trying to reach for something to grab, and then falling and felling his nose ram into a corner. Everything went black after that, then here he is awake and telling them about it.
It was like as if they could tell what had happened at that. The officer muttered to the other for an arrest order on the woman for child endangerment, child abuse, and other things Frank tuned out. A nurse then knocks on the door hurriedly before opening the door with wide eyes and panting.
“I-I hate to be a bother, officers. But that patient that you were waiting on to wake up from his coma suddenly escaped!”
The two officers look at each other before getting up and rushing out. The other that was writing down peaks his head back in and tells the two 'thank you for your time' before closing the door and leaving. This left the little 12 year old and the woman alone in the room. She looks over to him after taking a moment to listen.
"Would you like for me to stay here with you?"
Frank shook his head. He felt too tired in wanting to even speak or interact with anyone. Whatever was being fed into his body made him sleepy. The lady left, and he rested his head back down with a sigh. Curious, he slowly gets up and out of bed, scooting over to the window and looked out as best he could.
Indeed he did see someone escape, hobbling down the street in a hospital gown and by the looks, head is also wrapped like his. The person was gone, and he made his way back to bed and laid down. Once under the comfort of the sheets, the throbbing in his face and his head seemed dull that it made it easy to ignore as sleep overcame him, and he was out in mere moments. Nothing to worry about, nothing to give two shits about. Just him, and sleep.
