Saving Ecosystems to Save Ourselves
I left off speaking about the decrease in biodiversity worldwide and efforts to reverse this trend, specifically the species and ecosystem approaches. The most recent content surrounds aquatic biodiversity loss as well as modern agriculture and issues with food security, which often relate to decreases in biodiversity. Industrialized farming methods to feed a growing population often harm the environment, and we must search for new ways to feed billions of people. As in many cases, human activity is damaging the earth, and we exploit resources in an unsustainable manner, affecting ourselves and other organisms.
Humans are degrading valuable aquatic habitats, which then harms marine and freshwater species. As humans continue to create coastal developments, pollute, and emit greenhouse gases, oceans’ conditions worsen. For example, through coral bleaching, the number of warm-water coral reefs, which are centers of biodiversity, is decreasing rapidly. Increases in ocean acidification, temperature, and overall pollution affect the ocean’s services and food webs. Perhaps most significantly, human activity is killing phytoplankton. This organism is not only an important food source for many species, but it also produces a significant percentage of the oxygen on earth and absorbs CO2, thus mitigating the effects of emissions. In addition, with growing food insecurity, some people are pointing to phytoplankton as an alternative food source (Moore-Ede 2017). Therefore, reducing the phytoplankton population might be even more detrimental to future generations than it was first thought to be; we are actively destroying our food. Although we may not see the impact of our actions at first, harming organisms like phytoplankton has major effects on ocean ecosystems, the biosphere, and our ability to live on earth in the future. It is essential to emphasize the consequences for humans if we destroy oceans to gain more support for action against climate degradation. This human-centered approach may cause more people to back environmental initiatives.
The film Albatross highlights the consequences of human activity regarding waste. As a result of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, many birds have ingested a lethal amount of plastic. The visuals are heartbreaking, and the filmmaker does an excellent job appealing to emotions and pointing out how devastating human actions are. Many parts appear dystopian. Watching films like these make viewers reflect on their role in such tragedies.
Overfishing is a significant issue, and humans are depleting the world’s fisheries through unsustainable exploitation. The rise of industrial fishing has dually increased the number of fish caught and the use of harmful equipment. For example, trawlers destroy habitats on the ocean floor, and nets kill a significant number of bycatch, sea turtles, and dolphins. I believe it is important to use these “cute” organisms to promote saving the oceans (species approach). More people are attracted to saving sea turtles and dolphins than just an ordinary fish. Therefore, if we encourage them to work to save their preferred organisms, the effects of legislation and grassroots efforts can also help less known/less liked organisms, thus helping entire ecosystems. Those trying to save the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge used this tactic to emphasize the effect of drilling on polar bears to gain more support against exploiting the refuge.
In a previous blog post, I spoke about the rise of industrial fishing in Senegal, specifically the impact of foreign fishing boats. They depleted Senegal’s resources and escalated food insecurity. To make matters worse, most of the fish are being turned into fishmeal, so the Senegalese cannot even eat the fish taken from them. Efforts to expel foreign entities from their waters have not been very effective, and the Senegalese government is taking more aggressive measures, such as the implementation of highly trained combative forces, to curb this issue. Regardless, it will take a long time before fish populations return to previous levels.
The aquatic biodiversity situation is disheartening because international laws and treaties can only do so much. The high seas are largely unregulated, and treaties mostly rely on pure faith that other governments will do the right thing. Any strategies, like sanctions, to enforce these policies are unlikely to be employed when it comes to environmental laws. It makes me wonder if there is any hope for saving the world’s ecosystems. After all, it is a global effort to preserve biodiversity, and many nations frankly do not care enough to make real change.
Food insecurity is increasing, especially in developing nations, and environmental degradation intensifies the issue. As a result, many impoverished people cannot access food, which affects their health. People suffer from brain damage and illnesses due to malnutrition. The U.S. faces issues with food deserts, and the poor cannot access affordable, healthy food. People experience “overnutrition,” leading to obesity, diabetes, and other related illnesses. In the area surrounding Rose Hill, there are few grocery stores that stock inexpensive and fresh fruits and vegetables, and you are more likely to find a fast food restaurant than a healthy eatery. If you travel to the Upper West Side, you will find Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and farmers markets galore because the area is wealthier. It is unfair because everyone should be afforded a healthy lifestyle. In the U.S. and globally, there is an issue of food justice, and people cannot access basic necessities because of the money they have.
As a result of the Green Revolution, food production has increased over the last century, which has been integral in sustaining the growing global population. Despite higher crop yields, the expansion of industrialized agriculture has hidden costs from environmental and health consequences. This “revolution” ushered in a period of dependence on genetically modified foods, chemicals, and technology, and it has resulted in high water usage and high outputs of emissions from energy usage, cultivation, and animal husbandry. As prices are driven down through government subsidies and technological advancements, more Americans eat meat than in the past. This has disastrous effects, and agriculture as a whole makes up a significant percentage of U.S. water use and emissions. Additionally, according to the Center for Health Journalism, the growth hormones and antibiotics prevalent in many American animal products have been linked to increasingly early puberty in girls (Rosenberg 2016). While many European countries have taken more precautionary approaches to food additives, the U.S. has decided to move forward with them (Germinal Organic 2018). This phenomenon brings about a complicated question: should we continue to modify food to feed the world? It seems like we have few other options to prevent mass hunger, despite potentially adverse health effects. At least, this is what companies tell us. In response to industrialized agriculture, there have been calls to lean on organic agriculture, which does not use synthetic pesticides, inorganic fertilizers, or genetically engineered seed varieties. Although industrialized agriculture may seem like a solution now, it appears that it will not be one long-term. We need to begin experimenting with other farming methods that do not degrade the environment to create a future for everyone on earth.
Immediate steps must be taken to prevent the widespread destruction of earth’s ecosystems. Although international treaties cannot be enforced on the same level as federal laws, they can be important in countries taking steps to prevent overfishing and aquatic degradation in general. Such policies cause nations to reflect on their actions and change how they view the environment. Citizens of participating countries also have standards to hold their government to, which is crucial for grassroots organizing. The expansion of marine protected areas through treaties, which have had significant benefits in promoting the growth of populations and biodiversity, is integral in creating focused approaches to preserving the ocean.
Regarding fishing, governments need to become more active in preventing exploitation, which will have future health and environmental benefits. Ending subsidies to commercial fishing companies will decrease exploitation. Governments can direct subsidies to sustainable fishing efforts or fishing subsidies can be removed as a whole. After all, I am unsure if there is truly sustainable fishing when it disrupts natural ecosystems. Governments also must intervene by setting fishing seasons, quotas for species, and standards for fishing equipment to prevent habitat loss and the deaths of organisms not meant to be caught. More people will have access to fishing by instituting more catch-share systems, and it will be less exploitative as well. Aquaculture also needs to be regulated, and fish farmers should reduce the amount of antibiotics and pesticides they use. People “voting with their wallets” will be important when it comes to this because it is difficult for the government to regulate foreign fish imports. Certainly, authorities should enforce these efforts, and governments should institute programs to train people to monitor fishing. After all, when Senegal introduced its restrictions, foreign boats ignored them because of the lack of law enforcement. Quasi-military forces and protocols might be necessary. If we do not save the environment, we do not save ourselves.
Governments must institute mandates and subsidies that promote sustainable farming practices. Many of these should lean on traditional methods, such as requiring farmers to plant polycultures, which will lessen the need for fertilizer and water and prevent all the crops from being wiped out by a single disease. Further efforts to prevent agrobiodiversity will also be important in diversifying and strengthening our food security. Additionally, promoting organic agriculture will benefit people’s health and the environment, and subsidizing this farming method will lower prices and enable people in poverty to access cleaner food. As mentioned in a previous blog post, the U.S. government’s current subsidizing of mainstream food has caused it to be more accessible than healthier options. This has created an unhealthy and overweight population. If grassroots organizations can gain support to reduce the prices of organic food, they will be more successful in petitioning federal and state governments to change how they use their money. People can also pressure companies to provide healthier options; if it seems like a good economic opportunity, corporations will listen to customers.
Soil conservation is also important, and organic fertilizers and standards for agroforestry, terracing, strip-cropping, and more will prevent soil erosion and maintain soil fertility. However, farmers are unlikely to implement these methods on their own because they can seem costly at first. Why would one reduce the crops they grow for the soil? There must be free, local programs run by local governments and grassroots organizations that educate farmers on the importance of soil fertility and sustainability efforts. These programs should highlight the long-term benefits of soil conservation efforts and how current farming practices will ultimately lead to economic loss.
Urban gardens, which grassroots organizations often implement, can help with food deserts and promote biophilia. In Newark, NJ, the Greater Newark Conservancy runs education programs on agriculture and provides inexpensive plots for people to grow food (Greater Newark Conservancy, n.d.). These programs get people outside and better their health in the process by providing organic food. In addition, connecting people with nature causes them to care more for the environment, and urban gardening programs will generate greater support for green causes, which helps further the goals of grassroots organizations in communities and in the government.
As I often speak about, Fordham must divest from Aramark, which uses unsustainable practices to get its food. This is something that the Climate Impact Initiative is actively working on. Most Aramark food is not fresh and must be stored in freezers for long periods, wasting energy. In addition, although Aramark claims to use local food, more stringent standards need to be placed to make more of the food come from closer by and support local, organic farms, which helps with the environmental cost of food transportation and cultivation. Fordham should also lean on its environmental history to expand its gardens and increase the number of fresh fruits and vegetables available. These can be sold to students, staff, and the community, and profits can be reinvested in the garden itself.
People must take personal responsibility for their consumption of foods and attempt to eat vegetarian more often or completely switch their diets to vegetarianism. Meat consumption is entirely unsustainable, and if more people stop eating meat, we can save animals’ lives and the environment. I recently became a vegetarian, and although it has been difficult, it gets easier with time. More than anything, I am angry that I did not begin eating like this earlier because I have always had the means to do so. This is another aspect of why we need to have healthier, fresh food available to impoverished people—they will be able to eat vegetarian too.
We must all take accountability for the consequences of our actions on earth’s ecosystems. Current agricultural and fishing practices have made eating completely unsustainable, and many of our activities often have a cascade effect on food webs. We must change how we obtain food now in order to save the human race’s ability to live in the future.

Random: Gambit and women’s weight
(I had energy drink and it’s wearing off, so here I am! 0_o) Edit: Also, forgot Remy was married to Rogue, but let’s backtrack and hypothesize and all that.
Okay, since I’m not on The Gambit guild forums anymore, I have to have somewhere to put this random thought that’s been bouncing in my head since 2010-ish:
Would Gambit date a woman that’s morbidly obese and not be embarrassed about it?
I also have to dissect this thought, so here it goes.
My first instinct says no. He would flirt with her hard, all day long, no question. In fact, let’s just forget most women in the X-universe all look the same. Say there was a significant amount of overweight women that admired him. I think he would think twice before saying yes to a date, if at all.
I saw a fan art on DA making Rogue overweight (I obviously wasn’t looking for it, it just showed up in a group I was in at the time), claiming that Gambit would love big women. (This conversation did not involve me, I just read it.) The thought alone made me laugh internally because a) We don’t know that for sure B) it was coming from someone apparently in support of either accepting yourself as you are, (Not always bad until your health is in jeopardy), or in the fat acceptance crowd. (She called Rogue calling herself fat in one episode “fat shaming” or something. Ummm...?) Headdesk. Can’t find it and looks like the artist left DA. Edit: Somehow I found it? And the whole thing is in two separate pieces. (Not linking so the artist can have some anonymity) One piece, the artist had a conversation with someone who didn’t like they made Rogue fat, and said in response to Rogue complaining she was fat in one episode “ Just some good-old-fashioned sizeist writing”. OMG, really? Girls can complain they’re fat. Not everyone wants to be fat. (Holding metaphorical mouth shut to not go on a tangent.) And then they made another piece in response to the complaint after a conversation, and that was the whole thing about Gambit would love big women. Okay, whatever. I’m sure no one cares and it’s years after the fact. This is all from 2017. I’m not insulting them, I just highly disagree with the whole fat acceptance thing. (Probably because I’m overweight and other reasons and I’m a worrier. It’s not always going to kill you, but being fat can impact your health and shorten your lifespan. Not always, but in most cases.) Sorry, ranting again.
Let me just say, I’m not in the fat acceptance camp. Won’t go on a tangent. I’m fat, but I’m not going to say being fat is great and it’s blah blah blah. So, there’s that. You can be fat and healthy on the inside, I will say that, but being overweight can take it’s toll, there’s no getting around that. Edit: I DO post pics of big women in my imagines, yes. That’s because, in my view, you’re not going to lose the weight overnight and we’re not all shaped the same. I never promote obesity purposely. (Maybe an unhealthy recipe here and there, but everything in moderation.) I also believe in representation for different body types, fat, skinny or otherwise. Edit: So I’m more in the ‘You’re not going to lose weight overnight, fat shouldn’t be fetishized, treat your body with love and respect, people that care about you want you to be your best self, all body types need representation, but that doesn’t mean the consequences that may come with weight gain should be treated lightly, not everyone can lose weight easily, and no one has to be super skinny, but we just shouldn’t let ourselves go either, we all have our own journeys to go through, you should lose weight for yourself and for your health if it’s effecting your quality of life.’ camp. Yes, that was a lot.
Back to Gambit, he’s got all the confidence he can muster and usually doesn’t give a crap what other people think of him, right? I can’t help but think/believe he’d have reservations about dating someone very overweight. Nevermind if he’s attracted to a woman that looks like that or not. (I’m trying my best to word things carefully, but I’m bound to offend someone. I get cursed out again or something, I’m just going to ignore you. Have a nice life.) I think back on the Guild forum, someone said that Remy sees all women as unique, and I have no doubt that’s true. He isn’t so lustful he’ll just chase after any woman, no. And I don’t think like in the Deadpool series, he’s JUST attracted to women with a white streak. Like, ew. Makes it sound like he’s fetishizing Rogue’s hair for goodness sake. Remy is attracted to strong, (emotionally, physically or both), powerful women.
It’s really easy to write off who/what kind of woman a fit, masculine character is attracted to. Especially if we see it several times in cannon or, like in X-Men comics/TAS, most (but not all) women look the same. (Thank glob X-Men:Evo had the girls have unique body types and not look like clones of each other. Thank you, Mr. Gordon! WATXM...not so much. >_>) Going back to the Guild forums, I kicked off an interesting discussion once asking if Remy would be comfortable dating someone significantly taller or shorter than he was. The answer was a resounding positive, that he’d be okay with it either way. Point is, I just don’t think he’s canonically attracted to a big woman.
Now, if he were, great (sort-of?). I don’t think he’d get squick about it either. (Dirty minded, um, wouldn’t put it past him, even if I don’t approve.) He’d probably call her a beautiful figure, curvy, majestic, blah blah. He’d stick up for her when others talk about her, and just be that cool guy we love about it. Granted, Remy wouldn’t be able to pick her up, but there’s cute stuff he could do, and would probably make a lot of remarks and stuff. *Blushes*
Now, if he had to be convinced or talk himself into a date, that’s a whole other topic. Probably more suited to a fan fic than a fast paced comic, but we’re only speculating while the energy drink wears off here. The other X-Men would probably point out the woman’s good qualities, as well as be honest and point out what a fluff hat piece of slime Remy is being. (Can’t think of good not swear words right now, don’t bother me, I’m busy.) He’d give in to one date, be charmed, then two...and so on. It would catch him off guard, next thing he knows, he’s dating and falling in love with someone who wasn’t originally his type. Dude is open to things and has a big heart after giving his love to a woman he couldn’t touch, so it’s not impossible in theory. He’d just go into it skeptical, maybe even figuratively kicking and screaming, or not at all. He IS an all or nothing man after all.
OMG, this things is getting long. He’d probably be a bit crushed if she let him go if he REALLY loved her. Or at least I like to think so. Could be wrong, who knows? We’ll never know, because this hasn’t and probably won’t happen in cannon. If they retcon the Romy marriage at some point and this does happen, just let me know? I haven’t read comics in ages and would sleep on this.
So...yeah. (*Jumpy*) I’m sure Remy and said big woman would bond over Cajun food and cooking. He’d snuggle with her. Now I’m just rambling. Kinda wonder if he’d try and buy her clothes or not? Make-up for sure, big girls are pros with make-up. Definitely the usual jewelry. He’d have a whole new world to navigate, that’s for sure. (Like, Do or don’t buy her chocolates? Invite her to the gym? He’d probably avoid bringing up how much she weighed in the beginning. And etc.)
...Now I just want to write fan-fic, but I am/was at the half-way point with this with Molly’s stories. Molly was never huge, but same concept, similar reaction with Remy. And I’ve got something I’m writing for my own enjoyment (crazy 500 page live-action Molly/Remy fic-yes, it got out of hand and I have no life) that has the same feel and concepts. So, I may have answered my own question a bit already. Well, thanks for reading this insanity. Have a good day.

Vitamin D: Why you're in all probability NOT obtaining Enough and the way that produces You Sick
What aliment might we'd like in amounts up to twenty five times over the govt recommends for U.S. to be healthy?
What vitamin deficiency affects 70-80 p.c of the population, is nearly ne'er diagnosed and has been coupled to many cancers, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, depression,(i) fibromyalgia, chronic muscle pain, bone loss and autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis?(ii)
What vitamin is almost wholly absent from our food supply?
What vitamin is that the hidden explanation for a lot of suffering that's simple to treat? national vitamin company products
The answer to any or all of those queries is vitamin D.
Over the last fifteen years of my practice, my focus has been to discover what the body needs to function optimally. Vitamin D, a nutrient (more of a hormone and gene modulator) is a critical, essential ingredient for health and optimal function. The problem is that most of us don't have enough of it because we work and live indoors, use sun block and can't get enough from our diet--even in fortified foods.
Two recent studies in the journal Pediatrics found that 70 percent of American kids aren't getting enough vitamin D, and this puts them at higher risk of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and lower levels of good cholesterol. (iii) Low vitamin D levels also may increase a child's risk of developing heart disease later in life.
Overall, 7.6 million, or nine percent, of US children were vitamin-D deficient, and another 50.8 million, or 61 percent, had insufficient levels of this important vitamin in their blood.
The average blood level of vitamin D was 25 ng/dl for Caucasians and 16 ng/dl for African Americans. The optimal level is 45 ng/dl and requires about 3000-4000 IU a day of vitamin D3 -- 10 times current recommendations. If our whole population achieved a minimum level of 45 ng/dl, we would have 400,000 fewer premature deaths per year. There would be a reduction of cancer by 35 percent, type 2 diabetes by 33 percent and all causes of mortality by seven percent. (iv)
The economic burden due to vitamin D insufficiency in the United States is $40-$53 billion per year. This can be corrected for pennies a person per day.
Over the last five years, I have tested almost every patient in my practice for vitamin D deficiency, and I have been shocked by the results. What's even more amazing is what happens when my patients' vitamin D status reaches optimal levels. Having witnessed these changes, there's no doubt in my mind: vitamin D is an incredible asset to your health.
That is why in today's blog I want to explain the importance of this essential vitamin and give you six tips on how to get optimize your vitamin D levels.
Let's start by looking at the massive impact vitamin D has on the health and function of every cell and gene in your body.
How Vitamin D Regulates Your Cells and Genes
Vitamin D has a dramatic impact on the health and function of your cells. It reduces cellular growth (which promotes cancer) and improves cell differentiation (which puts cells into an anti-cancer state). That makes vitamin D one of the most potent cancer inhibitors--and explains why vitamin D deficiency has been linked to colon, prostate, breast and ovarian cancer.
But what's even more fascinating is how vitamin D regulates and controls genes.
It acts on a cellular docking station called a receptor that then sends messages to our genes. That's how vitamin D controls so many different functions--like preventing cancer, reducing inflammation, boosting mood, easing muscle aches and fibromyalgia and building bones.
Vitamin D also helps prevent the flu and colds and infections. In an observational study of Finnish soldiers, those with 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels higher than 16 ng/mL (40 nmol/L) had fewer respiratory infections than those with lower levels.(v) More recently, in a double-blind randomized controlled trial involving school girls, supplementation with 1200 IU/d of vitamin D3 during the wintertime significantly reduced influenza A infections.(vi)
These are just a few examples of the power of vitamin D. When we don't get enough it impacts every area of our biology, because it affects the way our cells and genes function. And many of us are deficient for one simple reason ...
Your body makes vitamin D when it's exposed to sunlight. In fact, 80 to 100 percent of the vitamin D we need comes from the sun. The sun exposure that makes our skin a bit red (called 1 minimum erythemal dose) produces the equivalent of 10,000 to 25,000 international units (IU) of vitamin D in our bodies.
The problem is that most of us aren't exposed to enough sunlight.
Overuse of sunscreen is one reason. While these product help protect against skin cancer--they also block a whopping 97 percent of your body's vitamin D production.
If you live in a northern climate, you're not getting enough sun (and therefore vitamin D), especially during winter. And you're probably not eating enough of the few natural dietary sources of vitamin D: fatty wild fish like mackerel, herring and cod liver oil or porcini mushrooms.
In addition, aging skin produces less vitamin D--the average 70-year-old person creates only 25 percent of the vitamin D that a 20 year-old does. Skin color makes a difference, too. People with dark skin also produce less vitamin D. And I've seen very severe deficiencies in Orthodox Jews and Muslims who keep themselves covered all the time.
With all these causes of vitamin D deficiency, you can see why supplementing with enough of this vitamin is so important. Unfortunately, you aren't really being told the right amount of vitamin D to take.
The government recommends 200 to 600 IU of vitamin a day. This is the amount you need to prevent rickets, a disease caused by vitamin D deficiency. But the real question is: How much vitamin D do we need for OPTIMAL health? How much do we need to prevent autoimmune diseases, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, chronic muscle pain,(vii) depression, osteoporosis and even cancer?
The answer is: Much more than you think.
Recent research by vitamin D pioneer Dr. Michael Holick, Professor of Medicine, Physiology, and Dermatology at Boston University School of Medicine, recommends intakes of up to 2,000 IU a day -- or enough to keep blood levels of 25 hydroxy vitamin D at between 75 to 125 nmol/L (nanomoles per liter).(viii) That may sound high, but it's still safe: Lifeguards have levels of 250 nmol/L without toxicity.
Our government currently recommends 2,000 IU as the upper limit for vitamin D -- but even that may not be high enough for our sun-deprived population! In countries where sun exposure provides the equivalent of 10,000 IU a day and people have vitamin D blood levels of 105 to 163 nmol/L, autoimmune diseases (like multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus) are uncommon.
Don't be scared that amounts that high are toxic: One study of healthy young men receiving 10,000 IU of vitamin D for 20 weeks showed no toxicity.(ix)
You might have seen a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association that shows that a single high dose of 500,000 Units of vitamin D3 (one year's worth of vitamin D) increased the risk of falls and fractures in elderly woman.(x) Does this mean that vitamin D doesn't prevent fractures or falls? Absolutely not!
The design and logic of the study were completely wrong. As a friend once said, "The well meaning are often ill doing."
Imagine a study that gave people a year's worth of vitamin A, or iron (both are nutrients that are stored in the body like vitamin D) in one dose. The vitamin A would cause immediate liver failure and death. In fact, the way the Inuit used to kill explorers in the Arctic was to feed them polar bear liver, which gave them toxic doses of vitamin A. A year's worth of iron in one dose would cause severe intestinal problems and iron poisoning.
Biologically we understand why a single high dose of vitamin D may cause problems. A single high dose induces protective mechanisms that reduce the available vitamin D by increasing the activity of enzymes that cause the vitamin D to be broken down by the body. (xi) The body requires a balance of the right nutrients at the right dose at the right time. No one would eat a year's worth of anything in one day and expect it to be healthy.
The question that remains is: How can you get the right amounts of vitamin D for you?
6 Tips for Getting the Right Amount of Vitamin D
Unless you're spending all your time at the beach, eating 30 ounces of wild salmon a day, or downing 10 tablespoons of cod liver oil a day, supplementing with vitamin D is essential. The exact amount needed to get your blood levels to the optimal range (100 to160 nmol/L) will vary depending on your age, how far north you live, how much time you spend in the sun and even the time of the year. But once you reach optimal levels, you'll be amazed at the results.
For example, one study found that vitamin D supplementation could reduce the risk of getting type 1 diabetes by 80 percent.(xii) In the Nurses' Health Study (a study of more than 130,000 nurses over 3 decades), vitamin D supplementation reduced the risk of multiple sclerosis by 40 percent.(xiii),(xiv)
I've seen many patients with chronic muscle aches and pains and fibromyalgia who are vitamin D deficient--a phenomenon that's been documented in studies. Their symptoms improve when they are treated with vitamin D. A Danish study of Arabic women with fibromyalgia found significant vitamin D deficiency and recovery with replacement of vitamin D.(xv)
Finally, vitamin D has been shown to help prevent and treat osteoporosis. In fact, it's even more important than calcium. That's because your body needs vitamin D to be able to properly absorb calcium. Without adequate levels of vitamin D, the intestine absorbs only 10 to 15 percent of dietary calcium. Research shows that the bone-protective benefits of vitamin D keep increasing with the dose.
So here is my advice for getting optimal levels of vitamin D:
1. Get tested for 25 OH vitamin D. The current ranges for "normal" are 25 to 137 nmol/L or 10 to 55 ng/ml. These are fine if you want to prevent rickets -- but NOT for optimal health. In that case, the range should be 100 to 160 nmol/L or 40 to 65 ng/ml. In the future, we may raise this "optimal" level even higher.
2. Take the right type of vitamin D. The only active form of vitamin D is vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Look for this type. Many vitamins and prescriptions of vitamin D have vitamin D2 -- which is not biologically active.
3. Take the right amount of vitamin D. If you have a deficiency, you should correct it with 5,000 to 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 a day for three months--but only under a doctor's supervision. For maintenance, take 2,000 to 4,000 IU a day of vitamin D3. Some people may need higher doses over the long run to maintain optimal levels because of differences in vitamin D receptors, living in northern latitudes, indoor living, or skin color.
4. Monitor your vitamin D status until you are in the optimal range. If you are taking high doses (10,000 IU a day) your doctor must also check your calcium, phosphorous and parathyroid hormone levels every three months.
5. Remember that it takes up to 6 to 10 months to "fill up the tank" for vitamin D if you're deficient. Once this occurs, you can lower the dose to the maintenance dose of 2,000 to four,000 Units a day.
6. attempt to eat dietary thereforeurces of aliment D. These include:
• Fish liver oils, love cod liver oil. one TBSP (15 ml) = 1,360 IU of vitamin D• sauteed wild salmon. 3.5 oz = 360 IU of vitamin D• sauteed mackerel. 3.5 oz = 345 IU of vitamin D• Sardines, willned in oil, drained. 1.75 oz = 250 IU of vitamin D• One whole egg = twenty IU of vitamin D• Porcini mushrooms 4 ounces = four hundred IU of vitamin D
You can see currently why I feel so turbulently regarding vitamin D. This vitamin is crucial for good health. therefore begin aiming for optimum levels--and watch however your health improves.

Covid 19 myth busters
Hello, new day new topic and some new interesting facts.
First and foremost, COVID-19 which is caused by coronavirus, is a VIRUS as the name suggest so please stop defaming the virus which cause biggest pandemic of new world by calling it bacteria. I know its lame but some people would actually do that, so my educated audience I expect you to not make fun of yourself by calling it bacteria .And yes if it’s not a bacteria, antibiotics would not have any beneficial effect in treating COVID infection.
Now I know most of you like to stay fit and keep those muscles pumped up , and my fitness enthusiasts and COVID concerned public must be going out for a long run wearing that mask feeling invincible , So let me tell you my fitness enthusiasts and health conscious audience that if you by any chance have a heart or a respiratory condition that mask would surely kill you maybe the coronavirus would not.” Wearing mask while exercising - THATS A BIG NOOOOOOO……. Now it’s your right to ask WHO told you that? Exactly WHO our world health organization clearly states that People should NOT wear masks when exercising as masks may reduce the ability to breathe comfortably. Sweat can make the mask become wet more quickly which makes it difficult to breathe and promotes the growth of microorganisms. The important preventive measure during exercise is to maintain physical distance of at least one meter from others.
Just yesterday I bumped into an old friend who started to act like he would end up having an respiratory attack after waking few steps across the street, Now as a concerned friend I asked him what’s the problem?? What he stated, gave me a mini heart attack. And he said which I quote “maybe because of wearing mask all day long I might be oxygen deficient or maybe it’s because of carbon di oxide intoxication”. - "Well dude that’s just your morbid obesity" - wearing mask for longer period may be uncomfortable but in no ways interfere with your breathing pattern.
Now this one is my favourite, these pharmaceutical companies are selling us alcohol-based sanitizers, looting our money. Why not just cleanse our whole body by boozing rather than wasting our hard earned money on sanitizers - You would not listen to your doctor I Know, but still I feel like it’s my responsibility to tell you that there are more than 30 percent chances of your dyeing of alcoholic intoxication with less than 1 percent chance of death due to COVID infection and NO alcohol would not cleanse your body from COVID but would surely cleanse liver out of your body. Well it’s your choice – Happy boozing! Just don’t blame me later.
There are some medical settings which claims hydrocholoroquine might be effective in treating coronavirus infection but till date we do not have any proof of its efficacy for treating COVID infection and there is no obvious cure to this pandemic till date. So, don’t go to pharmacy and stuff your body with hydroxychloroquine, and if you do just look at its side effects on higher doses and you can decide for yourself if you still want to take it.
And at last please enjoy whichever wheatear it is in your country , don’t wait for winter or summer, extreme temperatures can land you up having a heat stroke or a cold foot but coronavirus will live enjoying this harsh temperatures and chances are maybe you would not.
Piece of advice just maintain healthy distance and hygiene, constantly wash your hands and wear masks and personal protection on visiting public places, as long as you stay home you would stay safe and have faith on our competent researchers to come up with a vaccine soon because that’s the only way to achieve enough herd immunity to halt this pandemic.

Is it too personal or may I ask what the long story that got you back into George is?
honestly i could use this ask as a way to really sit back and reflect on what’s going on in my life so yeah here’s the story:
(warnings for depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts)
so going way back to my junior year of high school, september 2009-may 2010, that was like…one of the happiest years of my life. I had some really great friends at the time, family life (from what i remember) was more or less going okay (although i remember my parents were pissing me off when i was in driver’s ed), i was getting out more, things changed in my youth group and over all it was just a great year?? and CSI?? Season 10?? was so good??
and then my senior year of high school started, I got into some shit with not just one, but TWO of my friends, one of which I was like..in love with, and I was getting scared because Things Were Changing and I had all this pressure on me to get a job, go to college, etc, etc. (I also did start a job in the summer between my junior and senior years and I had a crush at this job and our relationship got Complicated and we never did anything, I sort of pushed him away cause I thought I was too young to be with someone who was a couple years older than me, and I was just scared about it in general.) But I was still watching CSI. I still loved it. I still loved Nick Stokes/George Eads.
And then came my first year of college, again, still watching CSI, and I was trying–oh god I was trying so hard to keep my anxiety under control as everything was changing, I was in a brand new school where I knew like…nobody (well a few people here and there–I went to a popular community college in my vicinity so I did see a few people from high school) and again getting this pressure to succeed in college cause college just wasn’t a thing people did in my family–not until everyone began to realize how important it was (some of my cousins went back to school and got degrees and such)
and I was also trying to do my best to keep in touch with my friends, trying to mend the cracks in the two friends I had beef with, but another friend–who I had since seventh grade at that point–and I were getting closer and closer (she’s my absolute BEST friend at this point in my life tbh and uhm yeah I don’t know where I would be without her but I’ll get to that later)
and I was still watching CSI, still in love with nick, etc etc–but I was also getting into another obsession…Doctor Who
Sophmore year of college?? I think this is where depression was starting to get to me a bit.
I had absolutely NO idea what I wanted to with my life. Family still pressuring me to succeed, things were getting Complicated with that guy at work, I started another job–so I was working two jobs at one point in my life and going to school which is uh Fun. I can’t remember much but I do remember in general being a bit freaked out over having to change schools cause that was a New thing and I was not good with change (because of my anxiety)
SO then we come to my junior year of college, and so began my dangerous Apathy phase, where I didn’t give a shit that I was failing tests because I wasn’t studying because Doctor Who basically consumed my life. I didn’t care about myself–It’s such a little thing, but I stopped brushing my hair at one point and wasn’t taking care of my body the way I should have–I had never gone to the doctor since my high school days, so I never had regular check-ups
things at this point had ended with my first job and I’ve never seen or spoken to that one guy that I have Regrets with–to this day I wish we gave it a shot tbh, cause he seemed like a geuninely caring, nice guy? (not without his faults of course)
and also uh…I think this was the year I stopped having a regular period.
I’m talking like…I didn’t have a period for months, and I sure as hell wasn’t pregnant
I also stopped watching CSI, for many reasons, for the way GSR was being handled, for the way Nick was getting the promise of all these interesting storylines but NEVER DID and watching Nick/George obviously going through his own shit (cause he definitely gained weight in that season–and NO JUDGEMENT FROM ME TBH cause I’m, uh…technically classified as obese myself), and again, I was also SUUUPER obsessed with doctor who to the point where it was probably hindering my life
at some point in 2015 i did get my period again and was like “OH LOOK I’M ALL GOOD ON THAT FRONT” probably cause this is when I entered my first almost-relationship, a frequent customer at the store I used to work at asked me out and it didn’t work out in the end cause he was um…idk just Not For Me (and a gross ass kisser) but then after that one period, it disappeared again.
OH but in 2015, when CSI ended, I did watch the finale–Immortality even though I was SUPER pissed about Nick being gone (I did go back and watch just his final scene and cried like a baby) and then proceeded to rewatch grave danger for the first time in years at that point–I actually documented that on my blog here lol (and I did all of that instead of studying for a test that I failed the next day lmao)
so blah blah blah had tons of shit going on until 2016, which was possibly the lowest point of my life in terms of depression/anxiety, even though I had finally graduated college, I got a full time job (the same one I’m in now, three years later, very successful I might add–I just got promoted last year and I’m held in very high esteem by many of my superiors so it gets happy)
but in this full time job, I was moved to third shift for a few months, and was forced to work with this one woman who I like DESPISED–although not completely at the time, but to this day I really just can’t stand her (thankfully she quit lol)
so the third shift transition was rough enough, but at least I was into a new show–Person of Interest and I was having the Time of My Life with it but it really did start getting me to think about my depression and mental health, which up until that point I had been ignoring, despite that one friend I mentioned earlier having pointed out to me many times throughout 2015-2016 that I needed to go to therapy (and I just didn’t think it would work, I didn’t want to do it, my social anxiety was screaming FUCK NO the whole time)
also the trump election thing happened and uhm yeah there was that. Got into a LOT of heated discussions…and lost like ALL respect for my step-father (who you’ll still see me refer to as “dad” but i’m pointing out he’s my step father in this instance because I would be ashamed to be blood related to him)
and despite our uh, troubles, my dad did try to get me to watch Macgyver, telling me that “hey, nick stokes is in it!”
but my depressed dumbass was like “oh really? nice” AND THEN DIDN’T WATCH IT LIKE A FUCKING MORON
and on top of that, my house got INFESTED with mice and my parents did nothing outside of setting up mouse traps but it was getting to a point where we found like…five mice in a day and I was starting to see them in the daylight (which is a sign you have an INFESTATION) and ALL of my belongings were getting mouse shit and pee on them (my room is right next to the kitchen) and I ended up purging A LOT of things (including a binder of friendship from the one friend I had trouble with in senior year–which man that hurt to get rid of ((side note, you know what really fucking hurts the most about breaking away from that friend? we’ve known each other since pre-school and I mentioned in tags before about how we do still talk and shit and i am one of her wedding bridesmaids and shit but yeah…not like it used to be)))
and i was getting to a point where I honestly?? just wanted?? to die??
I would say it was like, late 2016 where I was even starting to think of scenarios where I could just…like…disappear? kill myself? I just did not want to exist anymore
2017 came along, fresh start, I kept telling myself. Still had mice in the mouse, but I was fully aware of my mental health issues at this point, and was starting to really listen to my friend more and more, really starting to consider going to therapy (especially now that i had health insurance)
(and also I was beginning to realize I have Feelings for this friend as well–although I gotta wonder if it’s actual romantic love and just not intense friendship cause we really are close friends but like…I could also see us as more? if she were open to it? but I know she doesn’t feel that way about girls and she’s got her own shit to deal with, and i respect that so I never push it or bring it up)
and then? twin peaks: the return came along. Season 3, episode 3, “Call for Help” a fucking masterpiece of an episode and something just…CLICKED in me. Something made me realize, I need to call for help
and so I did.
2017 was the year of therapy, in which I talked about a lot of the shit above, and then I stopped going in I think 2018? when the therapist moved away, but my sessions were getting farther and farther apart anyway, and I felt like I was finally in a better place in my life. I had more coping mechanisms, more awareness of how to handle myself, and I began to realize I really needed to take care of myself more
so i went to the doctor for the period thing, seems like it was some hormonal imbalance cause i was put on birth control to get my hormones back in order (this is my first month off of them so fingers crossed it still works) and by the time august/september rolled around?
I started writing again
and I’m not talking fan fiction, I suddenly had the inspiration to write this original story idea I have for a series that was HEAVILY inspired by CSI–in which the third book in the series is about a guy getting buried alive (and a girl trying to save him but doesn’t because ANGST but that’s another long ass story lol)
which, naturally, made me want to watch grave danger again, for the first time in three years. and then…I suddenly wanted to watch more csi?? from the very beginning??
and so I watched the first four episodes of season 1 again, and Nick/George was back in my life again. And it felt SO FREAKING GOOD.
Then, I watched Macgyver because I wanted to see new George content, and immediately fell in love with jack
Caught up with Macgyver and then finished my csi rewatch, this time watching all of season 13 (which I STILL HAVE MIXED FEELINGS OVER just like season 9) and 14-15 (which i regret not watching when it first aired cause it’s SO GOOD)
and I’m not saying like…Nick/Jack/George is the sole cause of my happiness, the cure for my depression/anxiety (cause that shit never goes away, you just learn to manage it better), nor is he the sole love of my life or anything, but…he’s a huge part of who I am, because in those years, when I was struggling, I lost myself. I lost Nick. But now I found myself again, I re-discovered my passion for Nick Stokes, and i’m just as happy as I was back in 2009/2010, and life is just so good
#aaaaaaand now i'm crying#just...fuck man#i may have gone into uh...TOO much detail here#but honestly maybe not even enough?#but yeah trust me when I say#i'm happy to have nick/jack/george in my life#cause you know that quote nick says about warrick#about warrick being a huge source of strength?#that's how nick is for me#personal#nonny#about me#2019#reflections

Are There Blood Pressure Medications That Don't Cause ED?
Cialis appears to have no unintended side effects for women, Auer added, and it does not affect their sexual functioning. Indeed, Moore says his urologist did warn him that erectile dysfunction could be a side effect of cancer treatment, but he wasn’t in a place to process it at the time because his choice was either treatment or death. Asian traditional medicine predominates in the Asian countries, and it is used for the treatment of various physical and mental illnesses. All key market updates as well as technological updates will be enlisted in this report. Bad penile blood circulation is the highest well known result in of erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction (ED) can have several causes. Right now, there is not enough research to say for sure whether one causes the other. However, the majority of research into the safety and efficacy of medicinal plants or herbs are mainly based on animal models and very limited studies on humans, probably due to negative clinical trial results, drug interactions or toxic reactions. If you experience erectile dysfunction (ED), you stand alongside roughly 30 million American men who are suffering. Men may experience difficulty in the bedroom and it is estimated that 1 in 4 men under the age of 39 experience decreased performance and erectile dysfunction. There is some preliminary evidence that grapefruit may help with weight loss in different ways, depending on when you eat it. A study published in the "Journal of Medicinal Food" in 2006 found that people who ate half of a grapefruit before each meal lost more weight and had improvements in insulin resistance compared to those who didn't eat grapefruit. The first person in Australia who legally performed euthanasia was Bob Dent; he opted for this route because of his advanced prostate cancer. Men who skip exercise have been found to be at higher risk of developing prostate cancer. When you have a family member who is suffering from alcohol dependency, you should bring him to an alcohol rehab center as early as possible to avoid more health issues. 1. Unintentional weight loss: Losing that extra flab is always welcomed if you are fighting weight issues all the time. Instead, eat healthier snacks like fruits and vegetables which are loaded with fiber. The results are hypothesis generating and need validation in an independent cohort, he added. In the elderly, erectile dysfunction can be a wake-up call that you are at risk of heart attack, giving clear indications of the incidence of a heart attack up to three years in advance. Out of every vitamin you can choose from, we recommend Vitamin A for this problem. If I do this headaches are not a problem. Antibiotics are used to treat leprosy. Avian flu strains in China and southeast Asia are resistant to amantadine, but strains circulating elsewhere seem to be sensitive. What vitamins are not worth your money? The report on Erectile Dysfunction Drugs Market will help Major Players and the new entrants to understand and scrutinize the market in detail. Asia Pacific shows fastest growth in this market. 8.5 million, something in that range, which is essentially one one-thousandth of a point of a percent of military medical spending ― 0.0001 percent of military spending. The initial onset of symptoms is usually in the longest nerve that reaches the toes. The muscle tissue wasting leads to its detachment from the motor nerve resulting in symptoms of diminished movement and loss of muscle strength. First, the drug Lipitor depletes the levels of Co-Enzyme Q10 in the heart muscle and it is important to replace this deficiency. The pathological cause of heart attacks is a clot of blood, which forms over an area on the lining of a coronary artery which, is ready for a clot to form this area is termed a vulnerable plaque. Prepare a list of surgeons within the area or city. Start taking them seriously and visit a doctor as soon as possible so that you live a better, healthier life. If you’re concerned about your overall magnesium level, particularly as it relates to erectile function, canadian pharmacies online discuss supplement options and dietary changes with your doctor. Safety is a serious concern with regard to dietary supplements promoted for ED or sexual enhancement. Men should be taking the drug, along with all the other safety precautions. You shouldn’t use nux vomica if you have liver disease, as it can cause liver damage. Tadaga 2.5mg corrects this state by increasing the supply of blood to the region so that it can become engorged. Obese women also take longer to respond, have increased cycle cancellation rates, and fewer eggs retrieved. Have you experiences erectile dysfunction yet. It is available in teas and is also available as a supplement in pill form. Focusing on the most recent trials, which used the most recent technology, biochemical failure-free rates ranged from 50% to 74%. In the study with the longest follow-up, Chin et al. This technique kills or eliminates cancers cells at sites great distances from the original cancer. The 57-year-old was diagnosed with liposarcoma in January -- the same type of cancer that claimed the life of former Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

David’s Resolution - Day 8
Day 8 (January 8, 2019)
Seven (1995)
“If we catch John Doe and he turns out to be the devil, I mean if he’s Satan himself, that might live up to our expectations, but he’s not the devil. He’s just a man.”
[Yeah, I know, I could have watched this on Day 7. Didn’t realize it until it was too late. Whatever, not really that big a deal.]
David Fincher did not have the most auspicious start to his career as a filmmaker. His feature debut was 1992′s Alien 3, a movie that 20th Century Fox meddled in everywhere they could and as much as he could, and he ultimately disowned the film after they locked him out of the editing room. Alien 3 was like someone deliberately breaking a vase and then asking you to try and piece it all together, but then decide to do it themselves just because they can. The whole ordeal with the film made Fincher feel like he may not want to do another movie. But, thankfully, he was given a really good script, and he made this movie. And then he made The Game, Fight Club, Zodiac, The Social Network, and so on.
Seven (or Se7en if you want to be cool, but I am not cool) was the movie that showed people just what David Fincher could do if you let him do a movie without the studio fucking you over however they can. What you get is a taut police procedural that, no matter how many times you see it, even if you watch this movie for the first time knowing what happens, it still remains as suspenseful as if you were watching this movie blind.
The movie follows two detectives: the older, about-to-retire veteran William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) and the younger, hot-tempered and emotional David Mills (Brad Pitt). Mills has just been assigned to Somerset on what is to be the older detective’s last case, which is investigating the death of an extremely obese man who was apparently force-fed until his stomach burst. Then there’s another murder that first seems unrelated: a lawyer whose office has “GREED” written in blood on the wall. After Somerset does a bit more investigating in the obese man’s death, he finds the word “GLUTTONY” written behind a refrigerator, and he realizes that they’re dealing with a serial killer who’s basing his M.O. on the seven deadly sins. And there’s five more to go.
In previous reviews, like the Death Walks films, I said that it would be hard to talk about the story because I didn’t want to spoil it. Well, fuck that. By now, Seven has fallen into the “it was his sled” category of twists that aren’t twists anymore because of how well-known the twist is. Basically everyone knows that Kevin Spacey’s the killer, and it’s Brad Pitt’s wife’s head in the box, and if you didn’t know it by now, then you would’ve likely found out soon anyway. If you don’t believe me that it’s not a twist anymore, consider this: what’s the most famous scene in the movie? The one thing everyone remembers? It’s Brad Pitt going, “Ohh, what’s in the booox?”
This film is dark. From beginning to end, you know it’s going to be dark and brutal and will not end well. Somerset even lampshades this by saying, “This isn’t going to have a happy ending.” Some people might be turned off from the film because of its darkness, and I can understand that. The film has a bleak, brutal, somewhat depressing tone to it, and ultimately the protagonists are unable to stop the killer’s murders, which can make people wonder what the fucking point of the movie is. If you don’t like this movie because you feel it’s too dark, that’s perfectly fine.
But beyond that, what we have is a well-made thriller. The pacing of the film’s really fucking good, stringing us along at just the right speed so that things don’t feel like they’re being rushed or that the film is dragging its feet. The tone of the movie, while dark and brutal, is not excessively so, and even the more gruesome murders like Greed or Lust are ones we don’t really see much detail of. If this movie had been made a decade later, you can be damn sure we’d had long, detailed shots that don’t spare any of the gruesome details of the death. We’d have seen the mutilated body of the Lust victim, we’d have seen the killer mutilate the Pride victim, we’d definitely have seen the head of Mills’ wife. But by sparing us that, it leaves us to imagine the details in our mind, where they’re sure to be more fucked-up than what they actually would be on-screen. The film has a very disturbing atmosphere, but it doesn’t need to be gory or blood-soaked to be disturbing. It does so with the nature of the murders, the dreary environment, and the sense of discomfort as you enter the scenes of the crimes.
Adding to the atmosphere is the amazing score by Howard Shore, which is tense and nerve-racking and adds perfectly to the sense of unease that you feel watching this movie. Seriously, I’m on my fourth viewing (fun fact: David loves his audio commentary tracks and will listen to every one of them for his movies - in fact, I’m actually listening to one of this movie’s commentaries now) and it’s amazing how Shore’s music meshes with the film. It doesn’t feel like it’s overpowering or beating you over the head with what it’s trying to do.
And then you have the actors. Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt make for a great team, and at first it seems like your standard “older world-weary veteran teamed with young hot-tempered rookie” thing that we’ve seen countless times. Their professional and personal relationship, however, doesn’t get built over time as it’s forged through fire, but as they understand each other more and more with each new murder that comes up. Gwyneth Paltrow, playing Brad Pitt’s wife, doesn’t get that much to do but does a great job with what she has. R. Lee Ermey plays the police chief, who is surprisingly calm and restrained instead of being... well, R. Lee Ermey. You’re having the guy who is most famous as the drill instructor on Full Metal Jacket playing a character type who’s often yelling, and that doesn’t really happen. It’s weird, but well-written. Also, gotta give props to Leland Orser as the man who was forced to kill the Lust victim and who is believably shocked and freaked out of his mind. That’s because he actually was freaking out: in a bit of method acting that would make Robert de Niro or Christian Bale proud, he stayed up for two nights straight before shooting the scene and, between takes, he would sit in a corner and hyperventilate to make himself as believably scared out of his mind as possible. All that effort for a small but fairly important role. I applaud you, Mr. Orser. Is there another serial killer movie from the 1990s that he’s in? I’d like to know. (Yes, I already know that one, and trust me, I will watch it this year.)
And then we come to the killer, John Doe, played by Kevin Spacey. It’s difficult to talk about Spacey without bringing up the sexual assault scandal surrounding him, so all I will say is that he is very good in this movie, and I appreciate that the promotional material for the film did everything it could to make who the killer was a secret. That’s all I’m saying on the subject.
...Actually, now that I’ve said “serial killer movie”, you know what’s really interesting? This movie isn’t really about the serial killer. It’s basically a police procedural that just happens to have a serial killer with an M.O., and that’s nothing new. Of course, the idea of “serial killer whose M.O. is thematic punishment for their victims” would later form one of the core aspects of Saw, which can provoke the “Seinfeld is unfunny” effect on modern audiences watching this movie for the first time. But that’s not this movie. This isn’t about a psychopath who goes around murdering people as “punishment” for their sins. This is about two detectives who are trying to stop that serial killer. The movie doesn’t cut away to John Doe killing victims or preparing for their crimes or even show their personal life. It keeps its focus on the detectives and their efforts to solve the crime.
When you think about it, a major theme of the movie is apathy. It’s everywhere: in people who don’t care about what weird shit they have in their suitcase when they hire a prostitute, in a detective whose years of service have made him use apathy as a shield to live from day to day, even in the film’s muted and dreary color palette. The two characters who are most against apathy are Mills and John Doe; the former calls out Somerset for his apathy and saying that he doesn’t really believe what he says, while the latter is incapable of being apathetic to the world and that is a driving force behind his murders. Hell, the apathy is high when John Doe walks into the police station to surrender, covered in the blood of his victims, something that would be noticed the moment he walked in if this were real life. It really makes you wonder.
If you’re fine with films that go into darker territory, then yeah, I do recommend this. It’s a first-rate thriller and the true start of David Fincher’s career.
Next time: A mind screw of a movie that Roger Ebert would approve of.

Heart Disease Facts:
💔
- Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. More than half of the deaths due to heart disease in 2015 were in men.
💔
- About 630,000 Americans die from heart disease each year—that’s 1 in every 4 deaths.
💔
- Coronary heart disease is the most common type of heart disease, killing about 366,000 people in 2015.
💔
- In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds. Each minute, more than one person in the United States dies from a heart disease-related event.
💔
- Heart disease is the leading cause of death for people of most racial/ethnic groups in the United States, including African Americans, Hispanics, and whites. For Asian Americans or Pacific Islanders and American Indians or Alaska Natives, heart disease is second only to cancer.
💔
- Heart disease costs the United States about $200 billion each year. This total includes the cost of health care services, medications, and lost productivity.
Risk Factors:
💔
- High blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, and smoking are key heart disease risk factors for heart disease. About half of Americans (49%) have at least one of these three risk factors.
💔
- Diabetes
💔
- Overweight and obesity
💔
- Poor diet
💔
- Physical inactivity
💔
- Excessive alcohol use

Having high cholesterol means living with a greater risk of heart attack. For every 1% increase in the amount of cholesterol in the average American’s blood, there is about a 2% increase in the risk of a heart attack; conversely, every 1% reduction from the average cholesterol level reduces the risk by about 2%.
⚠
Elevated cholesterol (anything above 150) promotes atherosclerosis—the buildup of cholesterol, fat, and cells in the arteries that feed the heart muscle.
⚠
Incidentally, while the average cholesterol level in the U.S. is 210, the average vegetarian’s cholesterol level is 161 and the average vegan’s cholesterol level is 133.
⚠
People with cholesterol levels below 150 virtually never have heart attacks, while nearly one-third of meat-eaters will die from one.
⚠
Heart researchers have found that a low-fat vegan diet is the best diet for lowering cholesterol levels. Plant foods contain no cholesterol, whereas meat, eggs, and dairy products contain large amounts of cholesterol and saturated fats, which can cause arteries to become hard and clogged.
⚠
Plus, the high fiber content of a vegetarian diet helps eliminate excess cholesterol from the digestive tract. (Meat, dairy products, and eggs have no fiber at all.)
⚠
Dr. William Castelli, director of the famous Framingham Heart Study (the longest-running clinical study in medical history), says about heart disease, “If Americans adopted a vegetarian diet, the whole thing would disappear.”
⚠
He states that Americans have been “brainwashed to eat meat.” Even if you’ve been diagnosed with atherosclerosis, there’s still hope. Dr. Dean Ornish has demonstrated that the disease can be reversed without exposure to drugs and their often dangerous side effects.

yeast infection won't go away
Yeast infection won’t go away? It is the question that many yeast infections’ sufferers start to ask when their attempts to cure their problem, using topical treatments, lead to a dead end.
If you too suffer from the intense itching, redness and the sensation of burning with urination, then let me tell you, that I too have had my fair share of this painful experience.
I too have gone through the same painful experience; you are dealing with right now.
I had suffered from yeast infections for two long dreadful years. I had visited many doctors, and used many topical treatments that I can count.
For two long years I was caught in a vicious cycle, that went like this, each and every time, when I no longer can bear the itching and burning down there, I would have to take an appointment, and pay my doctor to prescribe me antibiotics.
And every time, I would follow my doctor prescription religiously, and guess what happened? In just few days, I would feel better, and the itching and burning would have lessened too much.
Relieved, and happy about the results, I would resume my normal life, and think to myself “Thank God I don’t suffer from yeast infections anymore!”
Yet lo-and-behold, it would take only a couple months, sometimes less, and again I find myself battling with yeast infections, and pondering over the question” why my yeast infection won’t go away?”
I had become tired and sick. I was fed up, and disappointed. I had suffered so much, and still can’t see how to stop this vicious cycle.
Yeast infection had taken control of my life. I stayed at home as much as possible, and on the few occasions I went out, I sat as close to the nearest bathroom.
I was a prisoner, being held hostage by my yeast infection.
It was then that I decided enough is enough. I decided to take matters into my own hands, and started looking for a safe and effective natural cure to put an end to this dilemma.
If you too want to shift to natural ways to treat your yeast infections, then keep reading to discover some powerful natural cures that work like a charm to keep yeast infections at bay.
However, before we cover how to get rid of yeast infections naturally, it is important to have a good grasp of what it really is and what causes it in the first place.
This is really important, because in order to properly address a problem, you need to understand what causes it, thus a problem clearly laid out is a problem half-solved.
What is yeast?
Yeast is a fungus, so it is a near relative to truffles, toadstools and mushrooms. Fungi thrive in moist environments; where nourishment is readily available, such as damp, leftover foods, windfall leafs, and soil.
Fungi have many good characteristics. For example, they are essential in the making of bread and beer. In addition to that, fungi, decomposes trash and returns it to the soil, so without them, the world would be one big landfill site.
However, this is not always the case. Unfortunately, there is one harmful type of fungi, called candida albicans, which is the primary cause of yeast infections.
In a healthy gut, candida albicans is a safe part of your intestines, nose, throat, mouth, and for women, your vagina.
It is only when candida albicans grow out of balance that you run into an array of health problems such as the rashes, itching, burning and discomfort. It is then that you start pondering over the question” why my yeast infection won’t go away?”
What causes yeast to grow out of balance?
It all starts inside your intestinal tract, there line up approximately 100 trillion bacteria, about 3 pounds worth. It is a complicated living system that plays an important role to protect your body from any outside attacks, as long as it is balanced.
However, as soon as bad bacteria starts to outweigh the good ones, your body starts to shift away from its inner balance, which pave the way to yeast infections to take place.
Here are the most common factors that disturb your body inner balance, and cause yeast overgrowth:
Consuming too much sugar. Candida albicans feeds on sugar, so eating many foods rich in sugar will potentially fuel yeast.
- The overuse of antibiotics, which are known to kill and damage the good bacteria in the gut, thus creating the ideal environment for candida overgrowth. And it is one among reasons why yeast infection won’t go away
Taking too much antibiotics may lead to a myriad of health conditions, including but not limited to: gut health problems, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), Obesity (struggle to lose weight).
- Taking birth control pills. One of the many side effects of The Pill is to throw off your body hormonal balances. Your gut is a complex organ, where a mixture of microorganisms is kept in check by good bacteria. However, the estrogen in The Pill disturbs this equilibrium by promoting the growth of yeast.
In a study conducted in 1999, at Louisiana State University, Chad Steele, Jessica Cutright, and Paul L. Fidel Jr. proved that an excess in estrogen develops the growth of yeast.
Not only that, but they also discovered that answer to the question “Why yeast infection won’t go away?” It turns out that the ability of skin cells to stop candida from colonizing the vaginal walls had become inefficient due to the excess estrogen.
- Stress can also contribute to yeast overgrowth. When faced with a stressful situation, your body releases a hormone called Cortisol, which raises your blood sugar level, and depresses your immune system.
This condition allows yeast to feed on the produced sugar, which makes candida albicans to grow out of control.
Prolonged stress may also wear out your adrenal glands, which play an important role to protect your immune system. The adrenal glands produce hormones to regulate different systems within your body.
If your adrenals are affected by stress, will start to feel tired all the time, and most likely you will find yourself drinking a cup of coffee after another.
This health condition will make your immune system similarly drained and thus inefficient to fight pathogens such as candida yeast.
What to do when Yeast infection won’t go away?
One of the best ways to beat yeast infections is by creating an environment where it is not easy for fungus to thrive in. This is done by adopting a few lifestyle changes, such as:
1- Limit dietary intake of carbs, alcohol and sugars:
A diet that doesn’t include foods rich in sugar or carbohydrate is the best tool to stop candida overgrowth.
When you follow a diet rich in eggs, meats, chicken, vegetables, and healthy oils (such olive oil) you will cut off any food source to the yeast to feed on.
Remove paragraph between quotes
“Yeast is known to multiply so quickly, that’s why it is important to avoid not only refined carbs and sugar in your diet, but also all mold and yeast containing foods such as: bread, alcohol, potatoes, beets and Carrots (high-sugar veggies).”
After starting the diet, you may feel unease for some time, this is an indication that the yeast are dying. Do not abandon your diet because of these symptoms; things will get better in just few days.
To lessen the symptoms that accompany the elimination of candida, it is advised to drink lots of water and take a hot bath.
1- Increase your intake of good bacteria:
Since bad bacteria are taking over your body, you will need to remedy for this by supplying your digestive system with enough good bacteria.
Good bacteria are found in high quality probiotic supplements, as well as in fermented and cultured foods such as natto. These two sources of good bacteria will keep your gastrointestinal tract and vagina healthy.
In addition to the above, you can consider using certain herbs, and taking digestive enzymes to restore the balance of your intestinal bacteria, such as: Oregon oil, Caprylic acid, Black walnut, Biotin, and Garlic.
2- Avoid exposure to medications and chemicals:
Stay away from birth control pills, antibiotics and corticosteroids. Also, avoid, household cleaners, paints, and perfumes, because they may cause allergic reactions.
People who suffer from yeast overgrowth are prone to chemical sensitivities, that’s why it is important to avoid or at least lessen the exposure to any objet that may trigger this problem.
If you stick to the lifestyle changes mentioned above, it is possible for you to create an ideal environment for your body to fight the infection on its own, without using harmful antibiotics.
Moreover, If you no longer want to wonder why yeast infection won’t go away, and eliminate it for good, and keep it from coming back then it is time to start using a powerful, save and natural solution to yeast infections.
If you want to stop yeast infections from embarrassing you… from having to avoid the intimacy moments with your spouse and finding excuse why you “don’t feel like it”…from dealing with “gross” days and messy underwear, then watch this free presentation where Linda Allen a health consultant, nutritionist, and most importantly a former chronic yeast infections sufferer shows you the right way To Quickly Cure Your Candida Overgrowth without the use of harmless medications.

Ever heard the saying “You are what you eat”? Well, in the case of inflammation, this is extremely true! Now, some inflammation is a good thing, that’s how your immune system kills off pathogens. The thing is, sometimes that inflammation doesn’t shut off thanks to what we eat.
Here are some foods cause an over inflammatory response.
1. Sugars and High Fructose Corn Syrup
Processed sugar and high fructose corn syrup can cause inflammation thanks to the high amounts of fructose. The small amount in fruits and vegetables is fine, but too much fructose can be dangerous. You see, it is a type of sugar that can only be processed by the liver. Too much causes the liver to become overworked and sluggish and fat to build up. This, of course, leads to an increased risk of obesity, type II diabetes, and some cancers. “Eating a lot of fructose has [also] been linked to… insulin resistance…fatty liver disease…and chronic kidney disease” and “causes inflammation within the endothelial cells that line your blood vessels, which is a risk factor for heart disease”
Some foods I’ve found to contain high fructose corn syrup include many everyday items such as ketchup, soda, pickles, miracle whip, fruit cups, juices, most candies and baked goods. So I always try to get these in organic form or use an alternative like organic raw sugar and raw honey or fruit.
2. Artificial Trans Fat
One of the worse fats you can have is artificial trans fats, not to be confused with the natural trans fats found in animal products.
So what is an artificial trans fat? “They’re created by adding hydrogen to unsaturated fats, which are liquid, to give them the stability of a more solid fat.” Anything with an ingredient that says “partially hydrogenated oils” are these nasty trans fats. These trans fats have been shown to increase disease and inflammatory markers such as high levels of the C-reactive protein. Artificial trans fats are linked with the lowering of good cholesterol and the impairment of the endothelial cells lining the arteries.
Some foods that have these artificial trans fats include almost all fast foods like French fries, fried chicken and burgers, certain varieties of microwave popcorn and margerine/vegetable shortenings, prepackaged cakes, cookies and pastries, and all processed foods that says “partially hydrogenated vegetable oils”.
3. Vegetable and Seed Oils
Some scientists believe that vegetable oils such as soybean oil increases inflammation due to the high the omega-6 content, though omega-6 is necessary for function. There is limited research on this however.
4. Refined Carbohydrates
While high fiber, unprocessed carbs such as grasses, fruits, roots and vegetables are healthy for the human body, processed carbs that have had the fiber and nutrients taken out are not. That fiber is necessary for the balancing blood sugar levels, promotion of a healthy gut biome and allows a person to feel more satiated.
Refined carbs may encourage the growth of pathogens in the gut that increase the risk of diseases like obesity and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). They also have a higher glycemic index, meaning that they cause a spike in blood sugar and cause an increase in inflammatory markers.
“Refined carbohydrates are found in candy, bread, pasta, pastries, some cereals, cookies, cakes, sugary soft drinks, and all processed foods that contain added sugar or flour.”
5. Excessive Alcohol
While moderate alcohol consumption (2x a day for men and 1x a day for women) can have health benefits such as blood thinning, too much can lead to an increase in the CRP Protein i mentioned earlier and a condition know as “leaky gut”.
6. Processed Meat
Consuming processed meat is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, and stomach and colon cancer
Processed meat is meat that has been preserved by means of heat and preservatives, with one such preservative being the “N-nitroso compounds are cancer-causing substances believed to be responsible for some of the adverse effects of processed meat consumption.” This N-nitroso compound is most commonly in the from of nitrate (sodium nitrate). They are also high in advanced glycation end products (AGEs). “AGEs accumulate naturally as you age and are created when certain foods [such as meats] are cooked at high temperatures.”
Some of these processed meats include sausage, bacon, ham, smoked meat, and beef jerky.
I have noticed personally some other items that are inflammatory: inorganic gluten and pasteurized milk. These are not from the foods themselves, but how they are processed. For gluten “it is a common practice among farmers to spray their wheat crops with glyphosate [AKA Round-Up weed killer] immediately prior to harvest—doing so actually kills the plant, which speeds the required drying of the grain.
This is called "desiccation." This practice makes it easier for farmers to time when they harvest their wheat crops and allows for more uniform drying. Samsel and Seneff noted that the incidence of celiac disease and gluten sensitivity has risen dramatically worldwide, but especially in North America and Europe, and they blame the weed-killer glyphosate for this increase.”
For dairy, the process of pasteurization actually kills off beneficial bacteria including the enzyme required for the digestion of milk proteins. “Pasteurized milk is not necessarily any easier on your stomach than raw milk. Because of the denatured protein and destroyed enzymes, it’s likely that the natural enzymes present in raw milk aren’t available in significant quantity. Your pancreas then has to work overtime to produce those enzymes so that you can digest pasteurized milk.”
The pancreas controls blood sugar levels, so it’s logical to assume that highly pasteurized dairy products may play a factor in diabetes.

Heart Disease Is Still A Killer. Here's How To Reverse It
These days, it's easy to feel vulnerable when it comes to your health. I talk about that a lot with my patients, many of whom are feeling heightened fear and uncertainty during the pandemic. หวย บอล เกมส์ คาสิโนออนไลน์
The best part of my job as a primary care doctor is reassuring them that we're not powerless, even against some of the biggest threats to our health. In the case of COVID-19, we can do things like get vaccinated.
There's even more within our control when it comes to heart disease, which remains the leading cause of death in the U.S., even during 2020. On average, it kills about 655,000 Americans each year.
CORONAVIRUS UPDATES
CDC: COVID-19 Was 3rd-Leading Cause Of Death In 2020, People Of Color Hit Hardest
Heart disease is indiscriminate — it's the No. 1 killer of men, women and people of most races and ethnicities in the U.S. Coronary artery disease, the most common type of heart disease, is especially brutal. It accounts for about 55% of those yearly deaths.
When plaques made of cholesterol, fat, calcium and other waste build up in the vessels of the heart — what we call atherosclerosis — coronary heart disease develops. It's the primary cause of heart attacks, which occur when those vessels become completely closed off by a growing plaque, or one that's shaken loose, and stops blood supply to the heart. It happens to someone in the U.S. once every 40 seconds.
Article continues after sponsor message
It's startling to think that something so deadly could strike without warning.
"If we look at people who have had a heart attack or died suddenly from coronary artery disease, half of those individuals never had a symptom before; the very first presentation of their heart disease is an unheralded heart attack, or worse," says Dr. Michael Shapiro, cardiologist and director of Wake Forest University's Center for Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease.
Despite the grim statistics, there is one major upside: With our choices, we have a lot of control over the main risk factors for coronary heart disease.
Over the past year, it may have been harder to make healthy choices, but it's still possible to take steps toward getting your heart health back on track, even as the pandemic grinds on.
And perhaps more importantly, making lifestyle changes will be beneficial regardless of your age, and even have the capacity to reverse existing damage.
Here are some ways to get started.
Establish a baseline and estimate your risk
A good first step is to get a baseline reading of three key factors: your blood pressure, average blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
These numbers are sometimes the only clues we have to a patient's risk of heart disease, and that's because three of the most common culprits in heart attacks — high blood pressure, diabetes and abnormal cholesterol levels — are often present without any symptoms.

Risk calculators using this kind of data can help you and your doctor figure out your chances of suffering a stroke or heart attack. Knowing that risk can be scary, but motivating, too.
Aim for a healthy weight and ditch the packaged foods
Hopping on a scale is another important step you can take right now, since weight is one of the most influential factors in our heart health.
While it's a strong, independent risk factor for heart attack, obesity is also commonly to blame for high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and out of control cholesterol levels. For all of these conditions, weight loss is the first, and best, option for treatment in most cases.
You can use a body mass index calculator — like this one from the National Institutes of Health — to find out your current and ideal BMI. The NIH also offers free online resources, from healthy recipes to a body weight planner that tells you how many calories to eat per day to reach your weight goal in a chosen time frame.
Pursuing a healthy weight doesn't have to be complicated, says Lona Sandon, an associate professor of clinical nutrition at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
"Perhaps the easiest place to start is to cut back on portion sizes, so instead of eating a full plate, eat only three-quarters of a plate," she says. A small change like that can save up to 500 calories a day "without really having to think about it."

She also suggests cutting down on (or cutting out altogether) foods that are heavily processed and sold in a package — especially deli items and other processed meats like sausage. Eliminating high-sodium foods like these may help lower your blood pressure.
Other suggestions include getting 2 to 3 cups each of fruits and vegetables to maximize your heart health, adding foods with plenty of fiber — think beans or oatmeal — and eating nuts and healthy fats like avocado that are cholesterol-friendly.
There's no doubt that carrying around extra pounds is dangerous for your heart, especially as you age. The good news is that reaching a healthy weight at nearly any stage of life can help improve blood flow to the heart.
Get moving
While a better diet is invaluable, "exercise is the best medicine," says Shapiro, the Wake Forest cardiologist.
Mountains of evidence show that the benefits of exercise on heart health are huge and multifactorial. It helps burn calories, promote weight loss and lower cholesterol, but exercise also conditions the heart just like other muscles in the body.
When we ask the heart to work more during physical activity, it floods smaller vessels to get more blood pumping through the heart and out to the body more quickly and efficiently. The same vessels may not otherwise be capable of supplying blood if others get blocked, as in the case of heart attack.
If we keep exercising regularly and asking the heart for more help, it will get stronger over time, eventually requiring less work from other vessels that have been expanding and pumping hard to get blood where it needs to go, lowering blood pressure as a result.

High Stress Drives Up Your Risk Of A Heart Attack. Here's How To Chill Out
Getting back into exercise, if it's been on the backburner for the past year, can be hard. But don't overthink it, just get moving.
"Unfortunately, the notion for many people who aren't exercising is 'If I really want to exercise for cardiovascular health, I have to jog 5 miles a day or do something really, really strenuous,' but we're not as worried about the intensity of the exercise," says Shapiro.
He tells patients that any type of movement they're committed to doing every day will help. Activity as simple as brisk walking can do wonders for cardiovascular health. Other physical activity like climbing stairs, doing yard work or taking 10,000 steps at home can all benefit your heart when you're doing it regularly.

When It Comes To Exercise, 'All Movement Counts'
Short bursts of exercise are great for heart health, too, and can be done in smaller spaces and in less time. Just 60 seconds of high-intensity exercise, alternating with a minute or so of rest in between, for a total of 10 to 15 minutes almost every day, gets you to the 75 minutes a week of high-intensity exercise recommended for all Americans. Think fast lunges, running in place, burpees, jumping jacks, pushups — anything that makes it challenging to talk in full sentences while you're doing it.
Talk to your doctor first if you have concerns about kick-starting your exercise routine given your current fitness level.
It's never too late to quit smoking
Smoking is one of the riskiest things you can do when it comes to heart health, since it speeds up the creation of those cholesterol-laden plaques and has other inflammatory effects on our tiny heart vessels.
To stop smoking means an instant drop in the risk of having a heart attack, and quitters can boast a drastic drop the risk of a heart attack within a year tobacco-free. Studies show the risk keeps dropping dramatically over time, and can eventually reach

The Health Effects of Cannabis
Even though cannabis might not be liked by so many people because they have no positive regard towards it, it’s surprising that cannabis actually have some positive effects and some health benefits to the body.
It’s also very surprising to know that some countries have legalized the use of cannabis. However according to CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent, he stated that cannabis should be legal only for medical use.
According to an article on cannabis, it stated that unlike tobacco smoking which causes the lung to loose function over time, smoking cannabis on the other hand can increase lung capacity. The increase in lung capacity is as a result of taking deep breath when smoking cannabis.
And I think most likely it is because of these that you can order cannabis online USA. I guess you can find the same situations in other countries too.
It has also been found that people with epilepsy can use cannabis to prevent epileptic seizures from occurring, according to a 2003 study. Cannabis is able to prevent epileptic seizures as a result of an active ingredient found in cannabis called Cannabinoids.
Also there is a chemical compound found in cannabis that can stop cancer cells from spreading in the human body. The chemical compound found in cannabis is CBD, which prevents cancer cells from spreading.
According to another study in Spain and Israel, it said the compounds in cannabis can even kill cancer cells. There are so many other studies conducted by researchers that has backed up the idea that cannabis can prevent cancer cells from growing.
Also it is found that cannabis may help in decreasing anxiety. It is said that medical cannabis may help relieve pain and suppress nausea. This two things are the same reason it is used to relieve side effects of chemotherapy.
Cannabis often increase the mood of someone with anxiety, even though higher doses and abuse might often increase the anxiety which is not good for the person. In USA it is easy for patients to buy medical cannabis online.
Cannabis also reduces inflammation, promotes sleep, alleviates pain and may also help relieve discomfort for people suffering from arthritis. Patients who were given Savita – a cannabinoid pain relieving medicine. After a while taking this medicine, patient’s health improved by a reduction in pain and good quality sleep.
People suffering from obesity or just normal weight people who want to lose some weight can easily achieve their goals of losing weight from taking cannabis.

What are the ProMind Complex advantages?
The important relationship between diabetes and the gut microbiome
The trends of metabolic disorders, including type 2 diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease, have grown at alarming rates in most developed countries. More than 600,000 Americans die from heart disease each year. Type 2 diabetes remains common as a precursor to cardiovascular disease and its complications.
According to the World Health Organization, "Type 2 diabetes is one of the main reasons of death worldwide by 2030". Ultimately, this disease results in heart attacks, strokes, cardiac arrhythmias, and heart failure. Similarly, obesity levels could be another reason.
However, current research is pointing to another possible reason for metabolic disorders such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease; it all has to do with your gut microbiome.
How can type 2 diabetes be related to the gut?
People with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease have a lack of microbial diversity in their stools; The gut microbiome has a limited number of friendly bacteria, but it is overwhelmed with bad bacteria.
This has already been studied before, however, more systemic studies are still needed that offer greater information potential.
Eventually, in the not-too-distant future, you may see “gut-targeted” glucose-lowering treatments that seek to harness the great benefits of improving gut health and how this relates to diabetes. The microbiome will become an essential part of treating these and other common metabolic diseases.
What is the gut microbiome?
Bacterial cells live in the skin, nose, mouth, and digestive tract. Your GI tract contains a collection of microbes called the gut microbiome. This includes bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites. Due to the high amounts of acid in the stomach, these organisms generally exist only in the large intestine or colon.
Friendly gut bacteria try to keep bad bacteria in check; they constantly multiply to leave less room for the bad ones. Good bacteria play a role in the production of vitamins, neurotransmitters like serotonin, and constantly improve the immune system.
This set of microbes varies from person to person and there is no real consensus on what makes the "perfect human microbiome." The microbiome is really the study of "The genetics of bacteria." Your specific biome might work just fine for you and no one else.
So understanding the microbiome can provide answers for conditions ranging from obesity to type 2 diabetes to cardiovascular disease. It has even been associated with type 1 diabetes.
What does an adult have in his microbiome?
A healthy adult harbors between 500-1000 bacterial species or 2 kilos of microbes in the gut. We have 39 trillion bacteria in the human body, that is, we are more microbes than cells.
Additionally, the breakdown consists of approximately 23% Bacteroidetes used to process protein and carbohydrates in the gut and 64% Firmicutes which process dietary fat in the gut. There are other types and smaller amounts of germs.
People with diabetes tend to have a change in the balance of their biomes, having fewer Firmicutes and more Bacteroidetes; having germs out of balance can cause illness. When in the right balance, gut bacteria can regulate hormones, synthesize vitamin K, folic acid, and vitamin B12.
What affects the gut microbiome?
· It all starts with your DNA and a process called colonization.
· Come into the world for vaginal delivery versus cesarean section Vaginal delivery provides the baby with germs from the mother while a cesarean section provides germs from the hospital.
· Breastfeeding supports the development of the microbiome. Being formula fed changes things.
· The gut biome generally stabilizes by 2-3 years, but is always in flux.
· Antibiotics - especially when taken in early childhood, disrupt the development of the microbiome. Antibiotics kill both good and bad microbes.
· The components of the diet - the modern western diet, refined, processed and sugary foods cause a negative change in microbes. A high-fat, red meat diet leads to poor changes in gut microbes; It allows for greater intestinal permeability leading to obesity and insulin resistance.
· Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) affect the microbiome.
· Possible negative effects of artificial sweeteners (research is still being done on this topic).
· High levels of physical and mental stress alter the biome.
· Disturbed sleep cycles and disrupted circadian rhythms.
· Antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers kill good and bad bacteria.
Ultimately, the health of the microbiome is based on genetics, diet, age, environment, lifestyle, and lifetime exposure to antibiotics.
What have we learned?
Several major studies have reported that "dysbiosis" or alteration of the gut microbiome can be a factor in obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. Stress, medications, toxic agents, genetic factors, and age also affect the gut microbiome.
It is also affected by the environment, past and current infections, gastrointestinal surgery, and certain foods. It is known that early in our lives, the development of the microbiome can affect our vulnerability and predisposition to certain diseases later in life.
Our microbiome is constantly changing as we are exposed to different factors throughout our lives. We also know that probiotics could be very helpful, but that each person will respond differently to the probiotic.
Some microbes form toxins and enter the intestine. A bad gut biome can lead to leaky gut, intestinal inflammation, decreased insulin sensitivity, and a change in metabolism.
Less variety and diversity in gut bacteria can also lead to ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, IBS inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer, food allergies, arthritis, migraines, and NASH-liver disease.
Strong yeast formation and bad bacteria in the gut can lead to skin diseases, vaginal and urinary tract infections, and colds. Having a beneficial diversity of the gut biome helps maintain gut integrity.
For example, it provides protection against pathogens and improves the immune system to be able to fight disease. In addition, it helps you metabolize your medications properly and digest and absorb complex foods, obtaining all the nutrients and energy from them.
What about probiotics?
As mentioned above, probiotics appear to be beneficial to the microbiome, but not all probiotics work the same way for everyone. Different strains of probiotics treat different health problems. At this point, there is no specific recommended daily intake for probiotics.
There are systemic studies, but they still lack definitive information. The facts that we already know include: probiotics are live microorganisms that can offer health benefits; They seem to eliminate diarrhea caused by the use of antibiotics.
They are also given to improve constipation problems, in place of stool softeners and laxatives.
What can probiotics do for diabetes?
· They can modulate or change blood sugar levels and insulin levels.
· They decrease systemic inflammation: Inflammation promotes insulin resistance, which is how type 2 diabetes starts.
· They reduce the levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) that indicate inflammation.
· They decrease stress on pancreatic cells and stimulate the immune system.
· They can aid in weight loss.
· They improve heart health.
· Improve mental health: depression, poor memory and anxiety.
Also, probiotics have enough bacteria that survive food processing. Probiotics include plain yogurt with live cultures (bifidobacteria and lactobacilli) and certain aged cheeses (gouda, mozzarella, brie, feta, gruyere, cheddar, and cottage cheese).
Fermented foods are great for getting friendly bacteria. The fermentation process creates lactic acid; This helps preserve food and promotes the production of beneficial enzymes, Omega 3 fatty acids, and friendly bacteria. Simply put, the process transforms certain foods into something totally different.
Some examples of this would be converting milk to buttermilk, soybeans to miso and tempeh, cucumbers to pickles, and cabbage to sauerkraut. Other fermented foods include sourdough bread, kefir, kombucha (tea drink), and kimchi (Korean cabbage). Pickled gherkins and pickled onions are also fermented and very beneficial for the intestine.
If you decide to start taking a probiotic supplement, always consult your doctor first. Choose one with multiple strains, at least 10-30 billion CFU (colony forming units). Make sure it is verified by the USP (United States Pharmacopeia), as that will guarantee that it contains the actual ingredients listed on the label.
And the prebiotics?
Prebiotics are natural plant fibers that the intestinal tract does not digest. They are also a food source for the bacteria that live in your colon. Prebiotics are generally found in fruits and vegetables. They also help the body grow friendly bacteria in the gut and aid in the absorption of calcium.
Prebiotics improve your metabolic health. Some excellent food sources of prebiotics include bananas, garlic, onion, soybeans, peas, Jerusalem artichokes, jicama, soy sauce, chicory root (inulin), asparagus, oats, apples, flax seeds, leeks, dandelions, whole wheat foods and wheat bran.
Possible dietary aspects to take into account if you have diabetes
Many people with diabetes try to eliminate carbohydrates completely or follow an extremely low-carbohydrate diet, as they affect blood sugar. This often leads to a diet rich in animal fats. Unfortunately, this diet limits dietary fiber, which is crucial for intestinal function and the growth of friendly bacteria.
Consider eating more fiber, as it reduces your appetite by making you feel full, prevents spikes in blood sugar, and is good against insulin resistance.
High-fiber carbohydrates also help produce friendly bacteria. People with diabetes often have "dysbiosis," an overgrowth of bad bacteria.
Possible ways to improve gut health even if you don't have diabetes
· Eat a plant-based diet. Having a high fiber / low saturated fat diet helps provide intestinal diversification. Indigestible carbohydrates stimulate the growth of friendly bacteria.
· Eat nutrient-dense foods and buy organic produce whenever possible, including grass-fed meats, wild fish and eggs from free-range chickens.
· Add high-fiber foods: legumes, nuts, seeds, berries, and low-starch vegetables.
· Eat foods rich in Omega 3 such as wild salmon, ground flax seeds or walnuts to reduce inflammation.
· Get outdoors: go to the field, to a camp, to your garden; Any outdoor activity can diversify gut health.
· Stop smoking.
· Avoid refined and simple sugars. Avoid processed foods with a long shelf life.
· If you really have a food sensitivity, avoid gluten and dairy.
· Get a good night's sleep, reduce your stress levels, and get more physical activity.
· Metformin - an often prescribed diabetes pill has "therapeutic effects" on the microbial makeup.
· Polyphenols - foods rich in polyphenols: Green tea, berries, grapes, olive oil, coffee, and wine can diversify the gut microbiome.
· Wash your hands with normal soap and water, avoid hand sanitizers.
Yes, there is a connection between diabetes and your current intestinal flora. More studies are still needed targeting the gut, type 2 diabetes and its treatment.
There is still a lot to prove and more research is needed, but we know there are many strong connections.

Design and Culture Essay In order to keep our culture strong, it’s best that some things are left out of the ads
Let me begin by telling you a story.
One day a few cavemen went out on the hunt. They came across a gorgeous cow. Strangely enough this cow was all alone but she seemed to be pregnant! Somehow the cavemen convinced this vulnerable creature to come home with them.
They fed her delicious fruit everyday while building a spacious pin around her, chopping trees directly from that area for the finest material and perfect animal storage. They finished building the fence right before the gentle cow had her calf. The cavemen saw what a beautiful connection the mother had with her baby but they were hungry.
They ate the calf and started drinking it’s milk. Regardless of the cow’s emotions/trauma her body still thought it was feeding her baby.
When other cavemen heard about these geniuses they immediately searched for healthy looking cows and bulls to breed and humankind never looked back!
Until the bloody vegans came along……………...
When it comes to eating animals, not only do we kill animals who are living their wildlife but humans are so intelligent that they managed to capture and breed animals for the sole purpose of becoming what some people like to call food. Does anyone want to know what their life is like before they’re sitting on the tesco shelf? What goes on behind closed doors?
Who kills animals everyday and why are they willing to do it?
Many people feel as though they have no other way to earn to feed their families and commonly undocumented immegrants who have little to no choice.
Slaughterhouses are one of the most dangerous working environments with risks from amputations to catching diseases. Not to mention PTSD.
This is what you see when you search “slaughterhouse workers” on Google Scholar (first 5)
Sickness absence and work strain among Danish slaughterhouse workers: An analysis of absence from work regarded as coping behaviour - ScienceDirect
Occurrence of carpal tunnel syndrome among slaughterhouse workers on JSTOR

Irish culture vs Chinese culture
In Ireland we accept the idea that pigs are “food” and dogs are pets (I believe animals should be wild). I do not agree with the idea of human supremacy. I don’t think it's moral to breed/ take ownership of anybody other than our own.
In Chinese culture they think it is normal to eat cats and dogs. What’s the difference between dogs and pigs?
Did you know that pigs are extremely intelligent?
“Pigs are indeed physiologically similar to humans” (pig cognition, Mendl, Held, Byrne)
Did you know that most pigs in Ireland are in factories where they barely see the light of day? Same goes for the 70 million chickens reared in Ireland each year (plus 2 million hens) agritours.ie boasts all about how successful Ireland is when it comes to taking advantage of species that are less important than human animals.
Chickens were developed from the red jungle fowl, who naturally lay about 12 eggs per year, I’ll let you think about the amount of hormones and genetical engineering was required for them to lay daily, as well as the fact that egg shells are 100% calcium meaning the hens we see today would die of osteoporosis if we don’t kill them soon enough/but the hens are killed before they get the chance to develop osteoporosis)
Perdue made it clear in his ads that his chickens were bred from the best to make the best.
“the better the breeding, the better the eating”, “bred from a lot of different chickens to give you the best of them all”
Perdue Chicken Ads 1970s
“It takes a tough man to make tender chicken”
Eating animals has been promoted as manly and essential in order to be strong.
Yet gorillas are herbivores…………….
ADVERTISING
We see dead animals advertised all over the world but we just think we’re looking at food. Thanks to the paradigm.
I remember the pleasure that comes with eating animals just like I remember the pleasure that comes with smoking tobacco.
Why are certain dead animals better known as meat?
When you walk into burger king, they don’t use photographs of cute and healthy bullocks (a bull that got the chop) nor do they show the conditions in which the cow got milked (most likely poop everywhere)
Instead they show us the delicious looking melted cheese on a burger of a blended animal in crispy buns with the best sauce and lettuce.
People don’t have to make the connection.
No reminder of slaughter in the design - god forbid kids know the origin of nuggets.
How do we view animals?
How do predators see their prey?
Why do videos of animals being slaughtered make people uncomfortable?
I don’t think a lion would care whether or not his prey is happy nor would they stop and think it’s cute… then again I don’t think a lion would capture and breed another species. They would have no need to hunt if they simply made zebras have sex with eachother and didn’t let them escape an area. They could even use their milk as a source of calcium when the babies are fat enough to be eaten.
Thanks to advertising, most people don’t even have to think about the fact that cows need to carry a baby for 9 months before it being taken away so they can make money from their milk.
The paradigm: Why are we constantly reminded that milk contains calcium for strong bones? We are all very familiar with Avonmore “for healthy growth and strong bones” who sponsor RTE weather! Are you familiar with the mother of your milk? Are you a feminist?
The dairy industry has convinced us that their milk is an important source of calcium, obviously milk for a developing calf is nutritious but does that mean it is suitable for a grown/developing human?
What wild animal would stand around and let you milk it?
Why would our natural bodies require another mammals milk?
Collard greens, seaweeds and sesame seeds have more calcium than cow’s milk and strangely enough they are not a source of bad cholesterol. Drink milk though, it's important!
Health risks/ Nutrition (The Encyclopedia of Healing Foods, pg 575)
Dr. Murray says milk “does much more harm than good at the average amount consumed” and that it is not a necessary source of calcium like they made it seem.
He also states that “milk and cheese are often loaded with fat and cholesterol which can lead to obesity, heart disease and cancer” something I’ve never seen included in advertising.
The U.S dairy industry tells us that everybody needs milk through an enormous annual advertising budget and as result: humans have a huge love affair with the addictive milk for calf growth (Dr. Neal Barnard: The Cheese Trap - Break the addiction)
“Milk products may also be contaminated with pesticides, dioxins, drug residues and concern is growing about the use of hormones in cows to boost milk production leading to cancer and asthma” “In addition, good evidence exists that milk consumption actually increases the risk of osteoporosis, the very disease that the dairy industry uses as a selling point in its ads”
Oh the Avonmore ad is on again, do do dooooo :) what a lovely guitar :)
“Countries with the highest rate of hip fractures per capita have the highest dairy intake”
Similar proof applies to osteoporosis. (All outlined in the Encyclopedia of healing foods)
Happy cows produce the best milk but I wanna know what kinda cows produce the most milk!
Bovine Growth Hormone (Encyclopedia of Healing Foods, pg 598)
Estimated 80-90% of U.S. dairy supply is contaminated (rBGH injections to increase milk production) and about 40% of “beef” used to make hamburgers comes from ‘old’ dairy cows. In Ireland, dairy cows also get sent for slaughter when they are no longer capable of having more babies.
Do you know where Cadbury’s source their milk? Cadburys is owned by Monsanto, the same American company who owns Philadelphia cream cheese. Have you ever wondered how they treat their animals?
The politics of meat (The Encyclopedia of Healing Foods, pg 600)
1 in 6 people go hungry
70% of U.S grain goes to feed livestock
50% of U.K cereal crops used for animal food
Each kilo of meat represents several kilos of grain/corn/wheat that could be consumed directly by humans
People are so focused on animal products (thanks to advertising I’d say) that they seem to disregard/ forget the importance of plant food!
Anyway this book of healing food wholey praises plants while warning about the consumption of dead animals and their excretions. Yes “meat and dairy” have nutritional value but does that mean we should eat them?
When you think about it, thanks to animal agriculture and all the land it requires, humans are homeless and hungry while farm animals are fed and sheltered (in captivity)

Patients undergoing cryo are generally unaware of these potential side effects. It's important to be fully informed about the process and the side effects that might occur. Even after the procedure, patients are advised to keep their cool if they develop symptoms that are similar to those experienced after a cardiac arrest. Many patients report nausea, vomiting, fever, dizziness, headaches, seizures, chest pain, and difficulty breathing.
