cyberpunk bunlith meme breakdown thread incoming!!

i wanted to do a little peek behind the scenes for yall cuz i know a lot of u are interested in my process, so lets jump right in!

first off here is a look of the animation itself in blender, with the original meme as a comparison, which can be found here btw!

the background itself was made to each shot, so the actual zoom out is a mess of meshes re-arranging themselves to line up for the next shot (i have 2 bunliths with associated cams that switch between shots so i can move things to set up the next shot while the other cam is live)

the assets were all made from scratch! this project was essentially a 'dry run' for my next game, which will be made using this style (the same could be said about bunlith herself: testing out the pipeline for expressive, easy to read ps1 style visuals)

i the space background painted a few years ago as concept art for said future game (this game has been a concept since before bloodborne psx started development!). heres a full res, non pixelated version of the art if you are interested!

and here is how it looks in unreal engine! note the pink distance fog which was something i really wanted to experiment with for a very long time as changing the ps1 fog color is the quickest way to change the vibe and i was curious if i could pull off a color as bold as pink

Top 5 Dick and Bruce moments or things

it's gotta be what faith tells dick in JLA (1997) #73

just the implications of it all. how bruce recognizes he hurts people, whether its criminals or the people who have chosen to love him. but still. still. he is immensely and immeasurably proud of dick. he can never say it, he wouldn't know how to even begin to tell dick how much dick means to him. also the crazy thing- we all know dick is insane about bruce and how endlessly devoted he is to him. but bruce is equally insane about him in his own neurotic way. he puts dick on a pedestal (he is right to) but just how fucked up of him. bonus scene from the obsidian run (#76) that always makes me grin:

2. this one is from robin: year one (2000) #4

so bruce fired dick after two face nearly beat him to death with a bat and dick ran away and managed to end up joining a league of assassins vengeance school under this dude named shrike. i won't bore you with even more plot but something about this panel just kills me. they're both so lonely and desperate for each other's partnership. bruce knows he miscalculated firing dick even if it was for dick's safety- dick isn't going to stop being a vigilante just bc batman said so (bruce u fucking idiot) and i think this instance of firing, while glossed over later in favour of the whole two-face of it all did sth that changed their dynamic fundamentally and irrevocably. it is probably the catapult for all of dick's future doubts and insecurities about his role and place in bruce's life. meanwhile, bruce giving dick agency in what he wants to do next- he needs dick just as much as dick needs robin. it's incredibly sad because i think there is a part of bruce that believes dick is only coming back to be robin, a doubt furthered when dick eventually forms the titans and loses all semblance of a life outside the mask.

3. this one is from outsiders: five of a kind - nightwing/boomerang (2007)

basically, dick decided to hand over the outsiders to batman and this is owen boomerang, the son of the guy who killed tim's dad. this is post-adoption so dick is more secure in his role as bruce's son. and just sth about how dick won't stand for people criticizing bruce, even when he might be thinking unfavourably of bruce. bc he can do that. but other people? no dice. also the added angst from owen talking about his own dad and his own version of legacy. i like to think dick probably felt some type of way about owen yelling out 'he was my father' bc while dick probably hasn't ever verbalized that, he has probably felt similarly.

4. batman (1940) #636

bruce brooding over the past. little does he know his second son is back and ready to haunt him literally instead of metaphorically lol. but anyway, this always makes me froth at the mouth. both bruce and dick have a tendency to look back on those years very, very positively and something about how nostalgia warps your memories but also how much of it is nostalgia and how much is truth? bruce is forever living in the past. @nighhtwing summarizes one of bruce's core truths in their fic Hereditary beautifully: Bruce has lived with grief longer than he’s lived without. It’s easy, then, to mourn this moment even as it’s in front of him, alive.

5. basically all of the comic batman/nightwing: bloodborne (2002). one of the most stellar pieces of bruce and dick writing. the art's a little funky but the story is fantastic. the devotion dick has. it's debilitating, it could kill him. it should have (thinking about the blast dick took for bruce in infinite crisis and how it was supposed to have killed him). the same toxin and anti-toxin runs through their veins. something about the intimacy and inherent religious imagery and nature of sharing blood. but it isn't even a cursory thought to dick. of course he will put himself in death's way if it means being able to save bruce. dick's biggest fear: being unable to save bruce like bruce saved him all those years ago. the way it all takes place on the anniversary of his parents' death. fantastic, killer, devastating show-stopping even.

that moment from obsidian age when faith tells dick about what bruce said to her. dick being so surprised that she assumed bruce was his father and even more surpised at what made her think that way? u are both freaks. the fact that bruce can so casually say this to anyone else but never actually say it to dick's face.. they r CURSED. also dick's expressions!! genuinely jla obsidian age is such a foundational nightwing comic.

"The only time I ever feel pride is when I look at Nightwing. Sometimes I think he's the only thing I ever did right."

their wholee argument during prodigal. love it when they ream each other out, or more likely, dick reams bruce out while bruce stands there because everything he does has a reason dick, and he has a good explanation!! but also because they are soo unwell. bruce thinking dick would never wanna be batman because he has already built nightwing for himself-- which is so much better! bruce truly believes that nightwing is an essential part of the hero community. he believes in dick's ability to lead and inspire. he also believes he doesn't have any right to be a subject of that ability. he doesn't think he deserves dick's loyalty and he outright says this in gotham knights. dick has already done so much for him, how could bruce call him back, especially for this.

another over used one but also one that altered my brain chemistry. that one panel from infinite crisis. I KNOW IT'S EVERYWHERE-- but that's because it is one of the most insane and fundamental changes that re-routed comic history! alternate superman telling bruce that everyone on this earth is a worse version of everyone on earth-2. telling batman that they should be overwritten, it's only for the best after all. AND WHAT DOES BRUCE SAY??

"And what about Dick Grayson?"

"Is he a better man on your Earth than he is on mine?"

yeah. bruce's faith in dick transcends alternate realities. the world could be on fire and the incorruptable could become corrupted but bruce wayne can not doubt dick grayson. bruce just casually judges the potential of an entire world by the standards of dick grayson. if the dick grayson on this earth is still a good person then it is still worth saving.

last but not least, a bit of a controversial one, but that scene in forever evil where dick is strapped to the bomb and it's about to go off and he tells bruce to leave him just like bruce has told him many times before. BUT BRUCE CAN'T. he says that the only way they are getting out of this is together as if there aren't like 3 other people in that room with them lmaoo- if dick grayson dies then bruce might as well die too because there is no reality in which he can live without him. his son, his brother, his best friend, his saving grace, his boy OUGH. and then we get the whole spyral fight scene yada yada and it's like a knife cut clean through your heart. one of the first dick & bruce scenes I read and one that will always hold a lot of weight in how I view them.

I need advice, how do I start or even begin an au?

oh gosh uhhhh how do i describe this

well theres a few ways i think? at least how i do it

one way is that i like...i take canon, and move it a little to the left? as in i look at canon and think "what could i change about this that would be fun?" for example with new game au, i kind of picked and chose parts of canon that i liked from both archie and game/idw canons and slapped em into one big au! for resurrected au i did the same just in a different way lol, with some additional differences added (characters brought through time/dimensions, given organic forms, etc)

another way is to just slap canon characters into a different world entirely! i havent done this one myself yet but its a good one. i guess satbk is a canon example of this??? a lotta crossover aus work here too, first thing that comes to mind is smth i like to do is a bloodborne au lol, ive done it for a couple other fandoms. sonicborne... theyre all hunters for a disease outbreak that turns ppl into beasts...oghhh

"au" means "alternate universe" (not assuming u didnt know im just explaining) so just imagine the characters in a universe different from the main one like in sonic prime! make a change and think about how it affects everything. sometimes one little thing makes all the difference. i think of my swap au--if sonic was a villain instead, SO MUCH SHIT is affected... its so fun to think about

I don’t know how to describe it properly but I’ll try. I imagine the students of the school wearing the masks like choir (and the masks have the rose crest on them) their uniform is also inspired by the students of bloodborne. Also I want to make separate boss designs for all the student council members. Sayonji would be a top naked samurai (more inspired by genichiro last fase from sekiro). Miki I imagine having a clock shield and casting magic/arcane attacks (related to music maybe???) and Touga would be a “false prince” with a shadowy crown and maybe creating shadow clones that you have to fight.oooooh and juri/siori could be something like the lothric and lorian fight in ds3. Also when I started designing all this I realised how samey all the council members look I guess it’s for the sake of animations simplicity but still….

And that’s about it for now but I intend to keep posting new designs as I come up with them 😎😎😎✨✨✨✨

Also if anyone has their own ideas for this au I would be so happy to hear them :)))

What's ur favourite weapon across any souls game if u haven't answered already

hunter axe. it's the hunter axe. i know it seems like kind of a basic weapon to pick, i never hear anybody talk about that thing & it's aesthetically much less striking than other bb strength options like the kirkhammer or saw cleaver, it doesn't even stand out amongst the three starting weapons, and on top of that it doesn't have a serrated/righteous bonus *or* any thrust attacks to speak of. but, nevertheless, it is a fucking workhorse. it can do close range, it can do mid range, it can do fast it can do slow it can lock down single targets it can clean up groups, you want a job done the hunter axe can do it no questions asked. i feel towards that thing the way a dyke with one of those unkillable twenty year old pickup trucks feels about her car, which is to say that if they let me i'd fuck it. basically every strength weapon in bloodborne is incredible but it's the hunter axe that got me through orphan of kos. if i start talking at length about how wonderful the charged R2 feels it will not even be the first time i've done so on this blog

I'd love to say that disliking a ship is always a taste, not "sometimes", but... well, some people who are invested in shipping will prefer only straight ships and consider gay ones "sin"/degeneracy/whatever led them to it. I haven't run into this sort of fans in a VERY long while but I doubt they went 100% extinct.

Nonetheless, it IS important to not instantly assume the worst about the person just because they don't share the vision of the ship that the 'cool kids' of the fandom decided is canon! Even if initial concern comes from a 'reasonable' place (like not wanting those conservative bigots to shame people in the fandom), this sort of fear and alertness ALWAYS ends up hurting waaaaaay more innocent people than it punishes the guilty ones! This principle applies not just to fandomry discourse of course but everywhere; being hyper-alerted and always set on detecting the enemy just inevitably turns you into THESE guys:

Okay enough with my ENTP bullshit and back on the subject; aro/ace spectrum Malenia headcanons are valid! As well as your suggestion about her keeping professional distance with her knights. For example, it is reasonable to assume that she felt guilt since all her Knights inflicted inevitable decay on themselves to stand by her side:

What if Malenia had emotional barrier, if not deep guilt for existing, that no amount of Finlay's convincing that she wanted this fate could break? What if the issues Malenia developed through life of both idealisation and demonisation (both are dehumanising) made her push someone, especially a subordinate, away upon assuming they "don't know what they want"? What if she is afraid of relationship because, since Scarlet Rot can sprout stronger in reaction to emotional pain (as we seen from Millicent blooming if she was betrayed), Malenia is scared shitless to harm another person or herself should relationship ever cause deep pain? Or what if Malenia forsaken considering relationship altogether because she identifies as 'blade of Miquella' and is not willing for any bond to become more important than that (and someone can expect romantic love to eclipse familial one, it depends on the perspective).

There are many directions to take in either why Malenia might not love Finlay, love but not want to date Finlay, or not love/date anyone. Why she either can't or doesn't want to! I have a couple of two other mutuals who are scared to tell anyone they don't 'see' Finlenia because even a deep analysis of the character will be received as attempt to "invalidate a representation"! One of them also thinks Malenia ships don't work period because it's hard to let romantic feelings bloom under so much physical and mental illness, speaking from perspective of a person with physical disabilities and severe depression themselves! Also a very valid perspective! Again, do we then want to argue about whose projected experiences "deserve" validation and whose don't? The hell we do :/

In the end of the day 1) fandom is not a majority rule and thus they can't just "collectively decide" how to interpret canon that IS left open to different interpretations, especially using problems like bigotry as an excuse or even weaponizing their identities. What will happen if a lesbian saying the heretics that don't ship Finlenia are all homophobic meets a lesbian that also doesn't ship it? I don't wanna know. 2) culture of reactive paranoia is bad, let's NOT become Yharnam Huntsmen

oh whew. whoever always asks me about music on anon thank u i love these.

1. divine beast dancing lion. divine beast. dancing lion. divine beast, dancing lion. divinebeastdancinglion. it's a good track. every time i read his name i do the FMAB commercial break. i like how immediately predatory it is from measure 1 like the flutes open with 16th notes and the whole symphony swings up.

2. messmer. so good. i'm really harsh on how I feel about messy because he's the flagship i mean mascot of SOTE so like, he's gotta be good! you're lady maria. you're artorias. no one will ever be sister friede sorry. strong track though, i love the surge of the main theme in phase 2. it kept me excited when I was fighting him.

3. romina. such a pussianna boss like i Gasped when i saw her and realized what she was. if only there was another blue fairy..... oh wait! i'm a carian! the riff from malenia's theme made us all clap.

9. bayle the dread. typical dragon ost. none of the ost is Bad but this is certainly one of the weaker ones, i wish it had been a little more deliberate and dangerous. maybe something inspired by Jaws. i like bayle a lot otherwise! the leadup to him is Intense.

10. scadutree avatar. it's okay. did not particularly Strike me. much like its boss fight it drags on. similar to Leda maybe I would find it more moving if we'd been given more insight on the scadutree? but truth be told this track doesn't hint that theres much to be missed.

i think that's all of them. if i'm forgetting something take the hint. it's a good ost! strong heavy hitters but also to be expected from fromsoft.
