i am fucking Thinking about how death is handled in destiny 2 once again.

in regards to guardians it’s almost treated as like a joke or something deeply unserious? possibly even alien in a way due to how we kill and destroy and wreck havoc against our alien foes, but we ourselves never die. it’s really interesting to me cause there really isn’t a lot that can permanently kill a guardian so it makes sense we’d have this perception. like off the top of my head you have weapons of sorrow, hive rituals where the light is drained from a guardian, and paracausal beings which ofc includes other guardians. but that isn’t a lot, most deaths are not permanent and so this perception of death among guardians seems like death really isnt that big of a deal.

we jump off the tower and then get resurrected and have a little laugh about it. guardians constantly kill each other for fun in crucible. we are always doing incredibly stupid shit but we are rewarded because our enemies do not share in our immortality. it’s fascinating bc this not only makes us become riskier as time goes on due to being rewarded (enemies defeated) for our lack of self preservation, but this also makes guardians as a whole uniquely unsuited to handle grief and loss. if you spend your whole unlife winning and thinking that if a friend dies they’ll just come right back, it’s such a shock if (or rather when) they actually do die permanently. and then that guardian has to spend the rest of their immortal, undying life remembering. they have to live with that while they watch the newer guardians flood into the tower with the same naive disposition as they once had.

i’m sure guardians know theoretically they could die permanently at any point, especially because of those like dredgen yor, but i feel like for most it’s one of those things that most would say “well that would never happen to me” until it does happen. guardians seem to just have this inability to let go and it makes me want to bite drywall because i think abt it too long and start going feral. like!! the past may be the past but it sure doesn’t feel like it when you’re immortal and you remember that shit clear as day!!! aghhhh pacing around my room in circles and eating ROCKS

Rewatching season one has been so interesting for analyzing Penelope and Colin. First of all I forgot what a good friend Penelope was to Marina (before publishing about her pregnancy…) and how hard she tried to dissuade her from tricking Colin.

It’s also really interesting to me the kinda reoccurring theme in Bridgerton about how women in the society find ways to take agency of their lives. From main characters to barely mentioned widows- it comes up near constantly. I think pre season 3 Penelope felt completely helpless in society. She felt she had no agency, that all she could do was stand by and hope to be noticed. All of her desire for agency and attention is poured into Whistledown. Or out through Whistledown? Anyway basically the second she takes some agency of her life outwardly Colin (as well as other members of society) are quick to pay her more attention. Like yes the clothes and hair and makeup helped but those are just ways to show her inner attitude has shifted.

I love Kidnap Fam a lot, I really do, but I’ve seen a trend of brushing over the worst parts of Maglor and especially Maedhros’ history in Kidnap Fam works.

And I suppose that’s fine sometimes you don’t wanna deal with atrocities and you just want fluff.

But I think a lot of the time when writing the Kidnap Fam there’s a tendency for mostly Elrond to sort of excuse the actions of the House of Feanor.

I think maybe that’s because it is hard to conceptualise Mags and Mae being both kind to the children and villains at the same time.

And don’t mistake me, I think all the sons of Feanor were villains by their deaths. Maedhros, in my opinion, is the definition of ‘die a hero or live long enough to be a villian’.

Being critically online (guilty) I find it hard to remember that the world isn’t black or white. People are multifaceted. Their goodness doesn’t wipe away the harm they’ve done and vice versa.

All this to say that I’m really looking forward to some more Kidnap Fam fics that explore the idea of Elrond loving and honoring them as his parents, all the while being like ‘yeah they were also horrible but I still love them and don’t think they should be doomed forever’.

Because at the end of the day, neither Mags nor Mae were truly monsters (just straight evil with no goodness), but people who were capable of hunting for hours for a pair of lost boys, and refusing to burn the ships for love, as well as slaughtering an entire city full of refugees.

So yeah! Let’s see some Elrond having complicated feelings about that!! Woo!

I know we’ve all been calling Eddie‘s moustache, his gay moustache and I’m as guilty of it as the next person, but the reality is moustache he’s gave far more symbolism than being gay - in fact the gay moustache is actually a very recent thing (the 1970’s!) and an intentional movement by the gay community to subvert cultural stereotypes.

You see the moustache has been symbolic throughout history. Indeed many European armies required officers and often enlisted men to wear moustaches. So its association with the military is long founded (apart from the equipment only allowing moustaches, it’s also a part of the reason firefighter swear them - because it is a male dominated career and therefore the moustache is a symbol of masculinity) and predates the moustache as a symbol of queerness.

All of this combined with Eddie diaz having one at this point in time is so interesting, especially because we now know that he’s going to symbolically shave it off on screen as a part of his emotional arc.

Eddie growing a moustache in the aftermath of the Shannon/Kim of it all - the fact Eddie has clearly not dealt with loosing Shannon or his grief, and there is a lot of other emotions and things tied up in dealing with that grief is super important. Eddie growing a moustache is him expressing his masculinity - tying himself to his heteronormative relationship and his military past.

To Eddie right now - his military past is when he had Shannon - it’s when he had a ‘complete family’. He isn’t seeing the cracks in the walls or the fact the foundation is made of quicksand. He isn’t able to see that his In his mind that is when he was happy and that is why he can’t grieve. Which is why he’s grown a moustache - because he’s clinging to his masculinity and the time when he felt he had control over his life.

It is essentially Eddie breakdown 2.0 and in the same way breakdown 1.0 came with a new haircut, but ultimately allowed him to process and deal with part of his trauma, breakdown 2.0 is likely to be the same thing. This time, likely dealing with Shannon and very likely the fact that she was essentially a ‘beard’ for him (even if he wasn’t fully cognisant of it at the time - I genuinely believe he loves(d) Shannon - but I also believe she enabled him to not have to look at himself too closely and keep himself in the closet) so shaving off that moustache is symbolic of shedding his beard (because he’s a firefighter and cannot have a full beard) and embracing his true authentic self.

So Eddie’s moustache is a symbol of his queerness - but only when he shaves it off.

With each of the East Blue members, Luffy recruited them after they displayed acts of kindness that befitted their characters. Zoro was strung up and yet still showed compassion and gratitude to a small girl who tried to feed him—having ended up there for the same girl and her mother—eating her food after it was smashed into the ground. Usopp lies, but not in a way to harm, in a way to give people breaks from harsh realities, creating phenomenal stories that bring the Usopp Pirates and Kaya lots of joy to hear, and Sanji feeding someone who couldn’t pay, someone near death. That’s not to mention him feeding a whole ship of pirates knowing they were gonna try and fight them to the death once they got back to their strength, but Luffy was sold from the first instance.

Nami’s kindness, though grounded in a place of manipulation, was directed to Luffy specifically, and honestly even if she was feeding him only to get in his good graces, the fact that her act of kindness to him was feeding him is a significant thing that is heavily overlooked. We all know the way to Luffy’s heart is through his stomach, and not even the chef of their crew displayed his act with Luffy himself. And through this interaction her facade breaks even just a tad.

Nami also shows way more hostility to pirates than the other three making her stand out even more. She uses her hatred to continually reject Luffy when he vocalizes he wants her on the crew even when she softens to him, Zoro and Usopp. She sees they aren’t bad people, but her hatred is what kept her going through all these years. And this hatred that she still feels so strongly about didn’t stop her from using her bare hands to save his life, also putting her life in danger in the aftermath. Even if you don’t view Luffy’s affection to Nami being a romantic attraction starting from Orange Town there’s no denying that she gained his respect and favor right then and there.

And for everything it’s worth, Nami started to feel hope in his presence. even still keeping them at arms length, she laughed with them. She joked with them. being with them for that time was probably the most peace and security she’d felt in years. Luffy caught a glimpse of who she really was and locked on. Nami basked in Luffy’s presence and all the warmth he provided. She became attached in that little time they shared. So much that she hoped to see them again after stealing the merry. Crying—which we learn she promised to never do again. And which we see her do again in Luffy’s presence.

Sanji is the only one who stuck to his guns of not joining at first. And he had pretty good reasons, genuine reasons. He loves Zeff, loves the restaurant they built. So even though Luffy could feel Sanji wanted to go, he knew Sanji wasn’t just bullshitting when he said he also wanted to stay. That’s why he didn’t fight it after Sanji made it clear on why he didn’t want to go at first. He was disappointed but he was willing to find another cook.

When Nami left, Luffy only thought about her and getting her back. Not dwelling on the act itself. He wasn’t even really worried about the ship. Usopp worried about the Merry, Zoro was ready to wash his hands with both. But Luffy needed Nami back. She was the only one he wanted to be his navigator. The stubbornness he expressed was almost pitiful, he was pouting. He was worried. He wasn’t hearing any alternatives because in his mind there was none.

Now, Luffy displayed already with Usopp and Sanji about how far he’ll go to help them out concerning their homes. But with Usopp they were getting a ship out of it, with Sanji, he was getting out of being a chore boy. Yes he also did it because that’s who Luffy is but both instances had something for him to gain.

Luffy acted up when it came to getting Nami back. This boy was all about getting to the Grandline. Patience is not a virtue of his. And typically when he’s forced to wait something out, he makes himself busy with small adventures to keep himself entertained. But with Nami, he wasn’t leaving without her. He made it clear to her and us as viewers. He wasn’t budging. When Johnny tried bringing her deeds to light, Luffy lost his cool. His hat fell from his head. Symbolism. The anger he displayed was absolutely visceral. Maybe it was because Johnny was accusing her of murdering a friend which is equivalent to a carnal sin with Luffy, but still. She had just betrayed them, stolen their ship, Zoro confirmed she worked with Arlong. From their perspective who’s to say she couldn’t have killed Usopp. They barely knew her by this point and yet Luffy was putting all of his faith in her.

When Nojiko appears to give them an explanation, Luffy doesn’t want it. I see most people interpret this as just part of his characterization and for a good chunk I believe it myself. But also simply because it didn’t matter. He didn’t care why she was doing what she was doing only cared about getting her back. Anything about her past, he’d hear it from her or no one at all. So he took a walk. A fucking walk. This ball of goof and hyper-ness, took a leisure walk to pass time.

Luffy was okay letting her handle it. Because she showed him that she was strong and could handle anything by that point. She made him eat his words about her having a weak resolve. It was only when she began to mutilate herself that he stepped up to stop her. Her tears, her blood, her anguish, we saw a Look on Luffy that he had only given glimpses of before and when she finally gave into to needing him,

He. Went. To. War.

Leaving his most prized possession on her head. As a means to comfort her. As a promise. And we know what promises mean to Luffy. Say what you will about Luffy giving his hat, I see many try to downplay it because he handed it off to Usopp when he went to fight Foxy. If you can’t understand the difference in context, then that is above my abilities.

That’s the line he threw at Arlong. Not, “you tormented this town for long enough” Not, “you destroyed their lives and homes” Not even, “you are a piece of shit”. It was a line that showed Nami’s tears is enough to break down his stance on being a hero. He wasn’t there to free the town, he was there because Arlong made Nami cry. Arlong hurt her. So much that she began to hurt herself. And when Luffy found that room, and things clicked in his head by seeing her blood on the pen , he was ready to bring the whole place down.

So he did.

Luffy had nothing to gain by taking down Arlong or the Park except for Nami herself.

Luffy loves his crew. He Goes to bat anytime they need him since the very beginning, but from these beginnings it’s shown that with Nami, things are just more personal for him. She’s more personal to him. Her stark contrast to Zoro, Usopp and Sanji, was laying the foundation that gets built upon continuously in the story.

DRDT Chapter 2 Episode 14: First Impressions

Episode 14!!! If Ep 11 really was the 70% mark (apparently the dev said that but don’t quote me on it, I saw it in a YT comment), then it only goes up to Ep 16. In the first trial, the culprit was revealed in Ep 10, then Ep 11 was their final defense as the class unraveled all the remaining mysteries, and Ep 12 was mostly post-trial. If the pattern repeats, this might be the episode we get our culprit reveal!!! And it seems likely, with the forty minute mark. So excited!!!

Also fine if it doesn’t happen if course, but we’ll see!

How the fuck was Nico using this exactly? I imagine the small bit of blood on the end is from the noose (which funnily enough, I kinda called there would be a noose, just got where Ace’s neck would be wrong), so then the middle is the part they used as a garrote. But… then where did the blood on the wire on the fan come from? Where they using both simultaneously?

Am I losing my fucking mind? How is it possible I still don’t understand the evidence even after All That? Has my brain simply rotted? And don’t even get me started on everything that wasn’t brought up! What the hell even is this case?

Again, not really important, just wanted to point out a pet peeve of mine.

[Eden Breakdown] Man, {even after how much I’ve been sussing Eden in this and every other episode}, it sure does look like Ace is the culprit huh? Like, this scene is so beautiful and incredible it might just sway me to Ace!Culprit. The CGs are amazing, the music and the voice acting is terribly moving, the dialogue’s fantastic, holy fucking shit. I almost want to cry that was so fantastic. I— I wish I had more words, but that just left me speechless.

I don’t think I could have asked for more, this is just fucking perfect. Nico’s whole thing was great, the Rose angst was unexpected but wholly welcome, the tape reveal was revealed, David… Chiem, and the Eden CG stuff. Just absolutely fantastic all around.

…Slightly miffed the blood on the wires is still somehow not 100% consistent with the described method but WHATEVER it WORKS i do NOT wanna look at those fucking things again.

Theory Updates

Yeah it’s Ace.

Okay that’s dramatic lol. Eden!Culprit is not 100% dead, but off the top of my head, I can’t actually think of anything the characters can use to clear Ace rn. The only reason I believed Eden!Culprit over Ace!Culprit is that I didn’t think Teruko and even Eden could have missed Ace grabbing the tape upon waking up, especially with the sprite disappearing when Eden was on the ground, but… uh… apparently Teruko doesn’t trust herself so much.

With that glaring issue fixed, I actually think Ace!Culprit is significantly more solid than Eden!Culprit. No workaround needed for the BDA, no weird “are they even strong enough to do this” questions, and while the fish paradox Exists, Ace might have thought that putting fish there would make people think of Nico. Which, given the killer also somehow expected the class to figure out the similarities to Nico’s method when only a grand total of four people saw it, one of them being Nico themselves; yeah, I’d think he might be stupid enough for that.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention, Ace waking up before the murder attempt was over solves the issue of him figuring it all out. He actually straight up saw the method, he’d know how to replicate it.

And those Teruko-Eden CGs, man… I always had to really suspend my disbelief on some of Eden’s lines, even with venus’ narrative defense, but… come on. I’ve said this before; I have my limits.

All that added to the fact that Teruko seems to really want to start her “begin to trust again” arc, the fact David pushed for Eden!Culprit… it’s looking Ace!Culprit.

To be clear, there’s still things like Eden’s “Teruko, wait—!” that work better under Eden!Culprit, but I feel those are comparable to other potentially small foreshadowing moments such as Ace being weirdly fixated on the carousel. Eden!Culprit is, again, not fully dead, as other than strength, BDA and fish (all of which have workarounds), there’s not much concrete evidence clearing her. But at this point, I… don’t know. I’ve always felt kinda bad reading scenes like the kitchen talk with Teruko with as much suspicion as I did, but these final CGs, hmm…

Maybe my perspective will change with a clearer mind in the morning, but these are “first impressions” for a reason. They’re not meant to be very cohesive.

And if I’m wrong and it is Eden, well then I’ll have been wrong for a week or two instead of a year, so. Who cares at this point.

Speaking of getting things wrong, the Nico thing. I got Nico!SoloAceAttacker (is that the right notation?) right, and the really obvious stuff like using the stool to reach the fan. I’m also gonna give myself half points for guessing the broom was used to move the wire on the fan all the way back in my first post, but other than that, I did not cook. In my defense, a lot of the evidence (Nico’s missing cloak, the missing tape on the pull-up bar unless it’s somehow the roll, the isolated weights and toppled weight rack, and who knows what else) ended up not mattering in the slightest, which threw me off. Also, I call bullshit on this explaining the blood on the wires, that splatter pattern still doesn’t make sense with what was described. I guess my life isn’t Nico’s after all.

On the other hand, I’m a bit more confident on the remaining aspects of the Arei murder theory now that I believe the culprit is strong enough to pull it all off without issue, but we’ll have to see on that. My guess for culprit ended up changing for now, but the reasoning for arriving at them (tape) was solid, so we’ll see how that pans out.

i think luffy and law are the couple that just don’t care(they’re pirates)(also hear me out). like obviously at first, law is like ‘hey maybe not in front of our crews’ but then at some point, he just stops caring. not only are they connected by the hip, you can literally find one of them hoisted onto something or pressed against a flat surface with their tongues in each other’s mouths. luffy is absolutely insatiable and law kinda loves it. don’t go to the crow’s nest after dinner, luffy is in law’s lap practically devouring him. on warm nights, you might find law pressed against the railing of the Sunny or pressed against a door. on most days, luffy makes law sit up on the helm with him and they give each other kisses while watching the open sea. law watching luffy absolutely devour his meal and has to give luffy the absolute filthiest kiss ever. they’re on an island, luffy is dragging law to the nearest secluded corner or alleyway and shoving his tongue down law’s throat

I am just - I am in love with the misdirect of Acceptance on Bad’s stream. Going into it we were all wondering if he was gonna accept the marriage proposal, that the eggs were gone for good, the he would take the happy pills… but no.

Bad has been so incredibly restrained his entire life on the qsmp. Even in his moments of pure calculated rage he restrained his cruelty. He jokes about torturing and murdering people but he’s only gone through with it twice and neither were fueled by cruelty but pure practicality.

When torturing Foolish, he just wanted answers and he knew Foolish well enough that it wouldn’t actually effect him long term. When killing ElQuackity, he and Max were not frivolous but wanted to kill him as quickly as possible. It was practical and for the greater good, not personal pleasure.

Bad is cruel. He knows the depths of his cruelty so intimately that it terrifies him. He has to keep himself on such a tight leash that any slip could be devastating and irreversible.

We saw a glimpse of it when Bad blew up Quackity’s temple. The pleasure of seeing someone in pain. The pleasure of hearing the fear in their voice. The high of making someone else feel helpless.

Today, Bad accepted that in order to find his children and nieces/nephews he has to embrace a part of himself he’s been suppressing for so long. He accepted that he’d have to revert to a version of himself that would terrify his children and the other eggs and probably make some of them hate him.

Torturing an innocent - probably indentured - worker for information they would have no way of knowing.

Bad is embracing a part of himself that he had locked away so far down inside him that most people would never imagine he’d be capable of such a thing but as Bad walks erratically through his house, slowly lighting up the room as the worker stands there trapped and terrified. There is a deliberateness to the way he uses soul torches, a weak light source, to slowly light up the room before stepping into darkness again, placing the last torch at his feet to illuminate himself from below. The cold determination in his voice. Still restrained. Still calculated. But oh so much darker and you can feel the cruelty he is about to unleash oozing out of every word as he speaks

too much about the spirit of lucy gray baird haunting snow through katniss and peeta and not enough about his own hubris during the 10th games haunting him through katniss and peeta

so many of the things katniss and peeta say/do during the 74th games are a reflection of himself, and a consequence of his own actions. how uncomfortable was he hearing that peeta suffered a beating to sneak katniss bread as children, knowing he’d broken the rules to sneak lucy gray food when she was starving in the zoo?introducing betting on tributes and convincing lucy gray to perform for the audience to gain their favor were his ideas as a teenager. how pissed do you think he was as he watched the two of them play to the audience’s pathos, from peeta’s interview with flickerman all the way up until the nightlock passed their lips?

and when you consider that district 12 only won the 10th hunger games due to him cheating, do you think he saw himself in katniss when she pulled out the nightlock? she undermined seneca crane, much like snow undermined dr. gaul.

the thing is, dr. gaul was entirely willing to have no victor during the 10th games as a statement to the districts and rebels. the failure of the games in the capitol’s eyes would have been worth it if she could crush any hope the districts had for victory—but snow chose not to see the big picture. he only cared about himself and his legacy to the games. and now snow has to watch as crane saves both katniss and peeta. because katniss called their bluff; somebody has to win. the capitol would have been furious otherwise—they’ve made their bets and formed their biases (game traditions started by snow). and how the capitol feels takes precedent over whatever ensues in the districts after this.

snow understands the big picture now, but it’s far too late. katniss played the system he built and the districts have been inspired. and now he’ll watch that same system crumble before his eyes because of a stubborn teenage girl from district 12. a nightmare of his own creation

so… i met miles last night 😭😭

i’m still trying to formulate the words to express how special it was to meet him and how unbelievably lovely he was. i mean, i obviously already knew how lovely he is - but getting to experience it in person is truly something else altogether. he just absolutely radiates good vibes and warmth and truly feels like sunshine in human form ☀️ i also loved that because i tend to be on the quieter side in these situations (after telling him how amazing the show was my brain went pretty blank lol), he actually asked me questions about what songs i’d most enjoyed etc and really engaged with me and also gave me the LOVELIEST hug 🥹

if possible, meeting him has only made me adore and respect him even more than i already did (truly quite an impressive feat), and i just feel so unbelievably grateful to have got to witness the smile on his face when i told him how much i’d loved the show 💖

There’s something about the way people say mcr was fated to happen that makes me go insane, because it’s real. before mcr they kept passing each other by, over and over and over again. It was mikey trying to join franks band, and ray and gerard being in a different band together before mcr. It’s the fact ray was mikeys friend before he ever even met gerard. it was frank being in the underground punk scene and never once hearing about any of the bands the others were in until mcr. There were so many missed connections, so many times they could have stumbled into each other’s lives. But it had to be then. It was four kids so desperate to make something in the wake of tragedy, reaching out shaking hands in a begging plea of you’re not in this alone, let me break this awkward silence. It was creating something so beautiful and blinding in its earnesty that it pulled in everyone around them like gravity. Everything fell into place, everything worked out against the odds. And continued to. Mcr was written in the stars I think, but even if it wasn’t I’m pretty sure they would’ve come together anyway. Stars don’t mean anything to a black hole, and that’s exactly what mcr is.
