The only thing that could ever make me like Descendants 5 is if they fix the MASSIVE GAPING BLACK HOLES that are the plot holes in the entirety of the Rise of Red, specifically that ending.

No relationship is all sunshine, but two people can share one umbrella and survive the storms together- Adrien AUGrest Day 3
Doing this event again and even though there are less prompts, still might only be able to do a few. Still hope you like this though, it a Descendants AU, with Adrien as Rapunzel and Eugene’s son and Luka and Juleka as Captain Hook’s kids, but they were looked after by their mom cause Arnaka is amazing. Umbrella
Adrien wasn’t sure if it was his anger that made him blind to the weather outside. He had a good reason; it was like most of the council didn’t even care about those from the Isle. Most of his classmates thought they were hooligans who deserved to live there. No one deserved to live in complete poverty, with no running water or access to food. That fact that it had been allowed to go on for 20 years and for those heroes who started out from humble beginnings to not care? It filled him with rage he didn’t know he had.
Did he want Mother Gothel anywhere near his mom? No, of course not? She kidnapped her and locked her in a tower and tried to kill his father, not to mention abandon his Aunt Cassandra. But if she had a child, then that child deserved to live life not suffering for food. He didn’t know how many of the villains had changed and cared about their children now, but from what he got from the new VKs attending their school now, there weren’t many. The number of heroes who wanted things to change were so few it was taking so much to even get the council to listen to him.
Maybe dating a VK made things harder but he wouldn’t change that for the world. Maybe he got his type from his mom, rugged guys who had hearts of gold. Though, Luka was nowhere near as vain as his dad could be when he got into one of his moods.
He stared at the rain, thinking about how unfair everything was and how his home was full of hypocrites when he heard a welcome voice.
“Stuck in the rain kitty cat?”
Luka, son of one Captain James Hook, was nothing like his father. He had a mild temper, was a mother duck and didn’t hate the people of Auradon on principal. He said it was because of Anastasia, Cinderella’s step sister, talking about all the good things Cinderella did for her. Adrien just thought Luka had a kind heart to not judge before he met people. Adrien made himself available as a friend when the VKs came to Auradon and Luka just accepted it without judgement. They’d talked and interacted the longest and what had first been a simple flirting to keep the more overzealous girls at bay, turned into giving him baked goods as a thank you then an invite to explore the Enchanted Woods and teaching Luka how to swim better in the Lake and then…the kiss. It just happened, Luka somehow more nervous to swim in a lake than shark infested sea water and holding on to the edge of the stone gazebo, Adrien calming him down, them staring at each other and it just, happening. Adrien felt fireworks and he knew.
Not that anything after had been easy. Telling people turned out to be the worst idea ever. None of his Auradon friends wanted him with Luka, thinking the pirate had spelled him. The VKs that didn’t trust Adrien thought he was only with him for publicity. It was hard and difficult and Luka was so worth it, but he questioned if they were making the right choice. His parents assured him he was.
“When you met someone, you know can change your whole world, it doesn’t matter what anyone else says. You need to listen with your heart.” His mom said.
“Besides, no relationship is all sunshine, but two people can share one umbrella and survive the storms together. that’s what your grandparents told us after we wondered if we could still get married after the whole debacle with your Aunt Cassandra.” His dad explained.
If his parents, who’d been two totally different people made it work, than he could do it with Luka. and so far, despite the storm they faced with judgement, they kept each other warm through it all.
“Hi my jolly sailor.” Adrien loved how Luka looked in his black coat, the snake wrapped around the Jolly Roger living on its back.
“You look upset.” Luka said sympathetically. He always seemed to understand how Adrien was feeling, even without saying anything.
“Meeting didn’t go well. How they can spout about being heroes yet turn their backs on people in need, I’ll never understand. Plus this rain isn’t helping.” Adrien said pouting at it.
“I like the rain.” Luka said.
“But it’s always cloudy on the Isle.”
“Yes. The barrier doesn’t make the weather the greatest but I don’t know. Maybe it was because mom is always with us, but when the rain would turn into a storm and rock the boat, she’d have me and Jules lay with her on a hammock and we’d feel the boat rock back and forth. Even hearing dad yell at the other pirates to secure the boat didn’t bother me. It just felt really relaxing. Honestly, the rocking boat has been the thing I’ve been missing the most.”
“Not your mom?”
“Well, we video chat with her whenever Fairy Godmother can arrange it and speak for ages after that, so it’s not too bad. But yeah, the boat rocking always made me fall asleep easier.”
Adrien didn’t know how he didn’t realise the dark circles under Luka’s eyes. Now that he knew they seemed to stand out more against his eyeliner. Part of him felt guilty that Luka seemed to always be there, even when the night got late if Adrien asked to see him. He opened his mouth to ask when Luka started to pull his jacket off.
“Didn’t bring an umbrella. I was waiting here when it started up, so we’ll have to run fast. I suggest holding on to your bag tight, ok?” Luka said, lifting his jacket so it was over their heads and stepped close to him. “Ready?”
Adrien nodded. While Luka was more open than the rest of the VKs, he would still clam up if Adrien pushed too hard. So he’d have to plan a little.
_________________
“Ok, step up. Oh, sorry!” Adrien said, tilting the umbrella back so Luka wouldn’t get wet again. It was still raining later in the week, which was perfect for what Adrien had planned.
“Kitty, what are we doing?” Luka asked, still obediently covering his eyes with a gloved hand. His hair was starting to curl slightly from the rain.
“You’ll see.” He brought them to the middle, letting Luka stay close so they were both under the umbrella. “Ok, open your eyes.”
Luka did as he as told, looking around at the rather old school yacht they were standing on. The sails were tied up and the seating on the deck were covered to protect them from the rain, but the elegant lines of the 33m VIP ketch still stood out in the greyness of the rain.
“Where are we?”
“On the Flynn Rider, my parents’ yacht. My dad sailed around when he was pretty young so he chooses this one and named it after the name he went by when he met my mom for the first time. It was from a story book he read when he lived in the orphanage. He says if he never read the stories, he would never have met mom later. You said you like sleeping on a rocking boat in the rain. It doesn’t shake that much but it’s still pretty ok. No hammock but you can still feel the rocking on my loft bed. Is this, ok?”
Luka took the umbrella from Adrien to free Adrien up to be pulled closer and kissed him. “You certainly always surprise me kitty. It’s prefect, thank you. you up for cuddling with this pirate?”
“Always.”

Being invisible isn’t all bad, I mean the lack of friends is a bit boring but it’s not completely terrible. I’m the daughter of Princess Anna, my only two friends are the daughter of princess Jasmin, Jessie, and the Son of Tiana, Travis. The three of us have been best friends for years, ever since we were very young, we’ve all always felt as though we don’t belong here, none of us are the preppy, pastel, princess or prince type, were more… well, us.
Jessie, Travis and I all walk down the long corridors of Auradon prep, “well, I’m off. See you guys at lunch” Travis says turning the corner to get to his geometry class. “see ya”, “bye” Jessie and I say in sync as we continue walking to out spate classes. “so have you heard the news?” Jessie asked me “what news?” I asked looking puzzled “y/n, as if you didn’t know. There are two new VKs joining the school today!” she says excitedly. Jessie has always had a fascination with the villains over on the isle and says she’d love to cross the barrier to see what life is like over there. “which kids?” I questioned. “nobody knows, guess we’ll see when they arrive. Anyway, I’ll see you a lunch” Jessie says before going into her history classroom. “see ya then” I say while continuing to walk down the corridor to my English literature class.
English lit has always been one of my favourite subjects, the poetry and the novels, love, tragedy, misery, it’s all just so appealing. I walked in, quite early as I was the first one in. former Queen Bell was our lecture, since her son and mal took over the crown, she takes up her spare time teaching English due to her love of books. “Good morning your majesty” I say before taking my seat at my desk and getting out my note book, pen and copy of Romeo and Juliet, the book were currently studying. “Good morning y/n” Bell replied, soon after people began to enter the classroom, nobody really paying attention to me, as usual. Yet another day in class sat alone, at the back.
Around half way through the lesson, Fairy God Mother walked in. “sorry to interrupt, but I have someone to introduce you all to.” She said to us all before guiding a tall boy into the class room. “Everybody, this is Harry Hook, he’ll be joining us here at Auradon Prep and will be attending this class. I’m sure you all will welcome him with open arms”. Harry Hook, must be the son of Captain Hook. I observed the boy stood in the doorway, tall, dark messy hair, beautiful eyes, dressed in pirate get up complete with a long red leather jacket and a silver hook in hand.
I was pulled from my thoughts by a Scottish accent “may I sit here”, I looked up to see harry stood by the empty chare next to me. “er- sure” I stuttered, the pirate sat beside me and smiled. “Harry Hook” he said, holding out a hand for me to shake, “y/n, captain hooks son I’m guessing?” I ask. “Your guess is correct, and you?” harry asked smiling and looking into my eyes “daughter of Princess Anna.” I replied, “ah, a princess, well I must say, you don’t look like the princess type” Harry chucked, I looked down at my lap, “I like it” he added with a cute grin applied on his face, I looked up to meet his gaze blushing slightly.
“Mr Hook, I’m afraid I don’t have a spare copy of the book so if you wouldn’t mind sharing with y/n” bell asked from the front of the class, Harry and I nodded. I opened up the book the page we were at and showed Harry. “I’m guessing you’ve never read Romeo and Juliet before?” I asked Harry. “Who?” Harry questioned, I chuckled, “Romeo and Juliet, it’s a play written by someone called William Shakespeare, it’s about two people from two different families that have been feuding for centuries but they fall in love, but end up dying right at the end. It’s one of my favourites” I explained to him. Throughout the lesson, Harry and I chatted and got to know each other a bit better, I could tell he wasn’t understanding hardly any if the lesson so I offered to give him some help with catching up with the play so far. I also invited Harry to join me, Jessie and Travis at lunch to give him the opportunity to make some new friends, to this he agreed.
I showed Harry to the area outside where Jessie, Travis and I would always go to a lunch and free periods, it’s under a great willow tree right at the back or the school grounds where no one ever really goes. “Hey guys, this is Harry Hook, Harry this is Jessie, daughter of Princess Jasmin, Travis, son of Tiana, and… oh who’s this?” I asked as there seemed to be a new boy sat with the two, “Gil!” Harry shouted, hugging the tall blond boy with a bandana over his long hair. “I never knew you’d been invited here as well” Harry said to him. “Well I’m here” Gil giggled back. “y/n, this is Gil, hes new here, he’s in my history class, son of Gaston” Jessie explained to me, I nodded back. “Gil and I were a part of the same crew back on the isle, we go way back” Harry explained to me, “Well its nice to meet you Gil, I’m y/n, Welcome to Auradon.”
Its been three weeks since Harry and Gil arrived at Auradon and I’ve been getting to know harry more and more, we sit together at the back of every English Literature class and I’m still giving him some extra help with catching up with the play. Through all the time I’m getting to know him better though, I’m beginning to develop feelings for him. So what that he’s from the isle, he’s sweet and funny and we get along so well, but there’s no way a great guy like him would ever be interested in a loner like me.
Jessie and I walk back to our dorm rooms after a long day of classes. Stood before the door was a bunch of beautiful Sun flowers, my favourite, and an envelope with my name written on it. I picked up the flowers and envelope and turned to Jessie. “who’re they from?” she asked, “I have no clue” I replied looking down at the bright yellow flowers and opening the door before walking in. I place the flowers down on my desk by the window, and walk over to sit on my bed before opening the little envelope still in my hand. Inside was a little note. The note read ‘I am drowning in a sea of desire, and the only one who can save me is you.’ No name was left, just the short poem. “well, who’s it form?” Jessie asked from her bed on the other side of the room. “no name” I replied eyes locked on the hand written poem. “oooo, looks like someone’s got a secret admirer” Jess cooed while winking and shaking her shoulders at me. “Shut up” I laughed back, throwing a pillow in her direction.
As the days went on, I continued to receive more small gifts and poems. On the Wednesday I received a small teddy along with another poem reading, ‘it’s as if every atom in my body gravitates towards you’ once again without a name. Thursday, I received a small beaded red and black bracelet along with yet another poem reading, ‘You. You are my good days.’. I received about six more poems that I pinned to my cork bored in my room, all made me smile.
“I have an idea” Jessie said to me after I had finished reading my sixth poem I had been sent. “whats that” I asked, turning towards her. “let’s go on a stake out. We’ll wait in the room until we here whoever it is at the door, and then open in. simple” she explained, “I love it” I replied all excited. I’ll finally be able to discover who this person, who uses words so beautifully, really is.
We’d been stuck in the room for four hours waiting when we heard it. “No Gil, shh. Shut up.” ‘harry?’ I thought. “Why are you doing all of this anyway harry” Gils voic rang from outside the door as jess and I pressed our ears against it to get a better listen. “because I really like her, and she deserves something to make her smile everyday. I, I just hope I’m able to do that.”. “open the door” Jessie mouthed to me. I stared blankly at her, “or I will” she added. “okay, okay” I replied before grabbing the door handle. With a deep breath I turned the nob to come face to face with Harry. His cheeks flushed red as he stepped back, looking down and rubbing the back of his neck. “Harry, it was you the whole time” I asked smiling at him. He looked me in the eyes for a split second, “uh yeah, um, how much did you hear” he asked looking nervous. “all of it” I replied.
Bending down, I picked up the note and small box that Harry had placed in front of my dorm room door. I opened the little white box to find the most beautiful silver neckless with a small wave charm on it and a ‘H’ charm next to it. “Oh Harry, it’s beautiful” I said in awe of the gorgeous accessory Harry had given me. I looked up to him, a smile lay perfectly on his face, with a sweet dimple popping put on his cheek. Next I unfolded the note, it read, ‘What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.’ My favourite line from Romeo and Juliet. He remembered.
I took a step closer to him. “Could you help me?” I asked passing him the neckless, he took the piece of jewellery from my hands and I turned around, moving my hair out the way. Harry put the neckless on, I turned back to face him, my hand clutching the neckless. Looking him deeply in his ocean blue eyes. “I – I like you too Harry”, with this, Harry’s face lit up, “you do?” he asked, almost as if he was in disbelief. “I do.” I smiled at him. Slowly rising up into my tippy toes to reach harry, as he bent down, somewhere in the middle our lips touched in our first of a lifetime of kisses.

Winner’s Curse Ch. 27
The Coven was invading tomorrow.
But if all went well, they were going to bring them down tonight.
After Jay attacked Antiquam, they realized they could not keep their cover of staying in the Coven. Jay, Aziz, and her headed out to Uma’s ship for hiding when Antiquam inevitably revealed that Jay was no longer hypnotized.
Though dangerous, Jade, Uma and Calix stayed as Antiquam wouldn’t be able to prove that Jay had any help from breaking Jafar’s control. So they still had their own infiltraitors in the Coven.
At that point, it seemed like they were on the sidelines. The sidelines of an impending disaster that they could do nothing to stop. Literally as they still had no tangible plan to stop the Coven.
Then Celia, the shadow man’s youngest daughter who hadn’t been in the loop for most of their infiltrating and espionage troubles, came up with a brilliant plan.
It was obvious in hindsight. Villains were paranoid because they expected backstabbing. But until Celia had suggested it, they never thought they should sew the seeds of dissent. Uma had thought it too obvious. The others hadn’t thought of it all. But Celia suggested that only select people plant the seeds. She, for one. Jade too. They were presumed to be completely loyal to the Coven and so would more likely be believed to be speaking from genuine concern than from causing trouble.
And Celia could plant the idea in the heads of Ginny and Zevon which would then bring out Mother Gothel and Yzma’s worries. And so without the united focus in hatred, which Circe told them was vital to the spell, Coven would turn against itself and bring its own ruin.
And then on Uma’s signal, they’d come in as magical backup.
Jordan sighed. Even though she told herself that she had chosen Uma as a better leader, that she knew what she was doing, and she was okay with no longer being the hero, it stung to be stuck as backup and not be in the front lines of the plan or the fighting.
Especially when it meant, waiting in Hook’s office, away from the crew that disliked them anyway, waiting for word from Uma since their presence was too obvious to be wandering around the Isle. Although, as Jordan looked at her fellow Agrabahians, with their dirtied faces, ratted hair and ripped clothes, she thought the Isle had made its mark in turning Jay and Aziz into two more villainous-looking residents.
Right now, the two were chatting it up about some tourney strategy or parkour technique, she wasn’t sure. It was something athletic which Jordan tended to zone out and think for herself. And when her thoughts got too deep, she’d admire, well more like wonder, Hook’s knicks knacks decorating his office. What possessed him to spear a codfish over his desk. Seriously? It didn’t look grand or particularly impressive since it was medium sized and covered in green flecks that Jordan suspected it to be mold.
Was it a pirate thing? Like when that CJ chick purposefully made herself smell like rotten kelp? Was it a villain thing for their decorations to be as vile as their hearts?
She wondered if she could ask Jay this or it would be considered too offensive. Maybe a few months from now when-
A quick “knock knock knock” signalled their attention, announcing Uma’s arrival. And with her came the usual suspects of Gil, Harry and Calix. As well as some more recent additions of Celia, Jade and Lala.
Which Jade was all too happy to explain as she jumped in front of Uma, her arms opened wide, “Guess who got us another fighter on our side?”
Lala stiffened and crossed her arms at Jade’s enthusiasm, refusing to look at the girl who was trying to hook her arm through hers, “I finally convinced her that we’re already miserable with her moms so why not join the winning side. It’s not like our lives could get worse if we lose.”
Everyone looked disbelieving at that statement. After all, their lives could get worse if they lost, they could be dead.
Jordan didn’t think anyone else noticed, but she paid attention to the extra bright smile Aziz had at hearing the news. And unless she was just imagining things, she could swear that Lala had looked at Aziz first to see his reaction before looking anywhere else.
It was for a moment but it was there, and even though Aziz still insisted he didn’t have feelings, Jordan knew. And unlike her previous, and in hindsight, very bad overreaction to it, she didn’t mind it as much. After all, a girl that made Aziz feel better about his Jay inferiority complex (when all of Jordan’s pep talks hadn’t worked which kind of stung) couldn’t be too bad. Even if she was the daughter of a villain.
“Uh great. Thanks, Jade.” Uma made her way back to the center of the room as everyone squeezed against the wall or in Celia and Gil’s case sat on Captain Hook’s desk, listening intently to whatever Uma had up her sleeve.
“Okay people. We have five hours to get through this so here are the assignments.” Uma began, “Harry, Gil, gather up the rest of the crew and take position around the castle. When I signal, you shoot the bow through the window and begin the seige.” “Celia, since you’re not needed for the Coven’s spell, you can gather the rest of the Anti Villain Club, and the volunteers.” “The volunteers?” Jay questioned with, in a very un-VK move, a raised hand.
“The Anti Villain Club and I have been soliciting volunteers from the regular citizens of the Isle to fight against the Coven in exchange to getting off the Isle,” Uma promptly explained before moving on.
“Calix, Jade, Lala and I are expected at the ceremony so you three,” She nodded to them, “Will sneak in through the Underground entrances and will get into the room, at the top of the tallest tower, and help end the fight. Got it? Let’s go.”
So they split up, Gil and Harry heading toward the starboard, (or was it stern?), Celia to the alleyways and the rest of them were back to trudging through the jungle to the castle.
Jay, and Jade strode side by side each other, pausing to show off a parkour move as they talked, predicting how their family members would react to their arrival. Aziz and Lala walked in companionable silence, hacking away at tangled brush, but Jordan wasn’t paying attention as she had been before.
Jordan walked up to Uma’s side, a choice that the sea witch hadn’t appreciated Jordan could see by the forced way Uma kept her eyes straight ahead. But Jordan had a question that had been burning in her after watching Uma’s leadership skills the past weeks.
“So… where did you learn how to lead like this? I mean your mom was just a witch so why haven’t you focused more on your mystical side,” Jordan cringed realizing how it sounded and began backtracking, “Not that I expect you to be like your mother. No one is exactly like your parents. I don’t mean that. But just- you know.. Does it come naturally? Did you learn it from someone?”
“I’m Ursula’s daughter, but do not let her define me. I make my own legacy.” Uma ducked under a stray leaf, “To give my people a chance, to get off this Isle and live better lives. And if I wanted to make that happen, I learned to lead. On the Isle, you learn what you need to. ” Uma grunted before walking faster and farther ahead.
Though Uma probably hadn’t meant anything by it. It was probably a “there-I-answered- now-shut-up-and-do-what-you-were- ordered-to-do” answer to get Jordan to go away.
Even though it offered no advice on leadership,it got Jordan to thinking. So many of them, all of them really, had their issues with the heavy legacy that their parents set before them. They were all defined by them, especially when it was announced “Name, son or daughter of-.” It was part of life. A more difficult part of life when their legacy was founded on greed and vileness and evil like the Vks.
But even though they were defined by their parents, these Vks tried their best not to let it control their lives. They lived day to day, in the present. Mainly it was for survival reasons, but it could work personally too, Jordan thought.
She had been defining herself solely by her parents. Not trying to live up to them. By rebelling to be the exact opposite of them. It is always in some relation to them or what others’ preconceptions of genies were supposed to be.
And she did the same. Judging people with her views of mortals, which were mostly right, but didn’t make her happy. It just made her miserable to know she was surrounded by so many jerks. And it kinda made her self-absorbed. Musing and complaining about how people only wanted to use her. She had been so focused on that during her time here, she had missed Aziz’s personal turmoil; She had been distrustful and uncooperative with Jay; She focused on her personal safety and her fear of the other Coven members taking advantage of her more than saving the kingdom.
But what if she took a page from the Vks book.
Just live in the present, and not focus solely on the resentment of the past.
It was a new way. Instead of expecting the worst, she could let people come into her life, if they were just using her, cut ties and let it go because she had Aziz, and Calix, and maybe Jay and Lonnie and the rest of her family. They cared for her.
And she should let go of her biggest resentment. Her parents for leaving her. For so long she saw it as evidence of their lack of love for her, and while it hurt, it didn’t lessen their love. And she hadn’t let them in because they didn’t love her like the other parents loved their children. They weren’t what she wanted. Which wasn’t fair. They weren’t like others, they were genies.
So if she survived this, she was going to stop with the sarcasm and the irritation whenever she was with them. But she was also going to have that talk with them, a serious talk even though they disliked those things, because as she had experienced with Jay and Aziz, a talk could go a long way in resolving their differences.
She was going to focus more on what she loved. Her show, mabe even add some improv sketches that she had refused to do because it was too similar to her Dad’s antics. She had no reason to hold back just because someone would compare or judge. People would always judge you so there was no point trying to prove them wrong. Just follow your instincts, do what is right because you know is right, and YOLO. YOLO because even though she lived forever, she should do more in enjoying what she had. Enjoy life.
And if they didn’t like her for it, fuck em all.
And there, right in that muddy path with jungle palms blocking sunlight as if to suffocate them all with the smell of moss and the hot humidity; Stuck on an Isle where semi rotten trash was considered high dining and you were praised for your bloodlust and kindness of any kind was a weakness.
Jordan felt a peace with the doubts that had plagued her for.. for maybe her whole life.
It was the most inappropriate place for such a realization but it was perfect too. The Isle was loathsome and the bottom of the barrel, but rock bottom was where you find your greatest strength.
Jordan smiled, remembering how Calix had thrown her own story tropes back in her face that every adventure had heart to hearts and personal revelations before the final battle.
She didn’t know about anyone else, but she was having hers. Even though she was not the leader, even though she wasn’t going to be the hero to save the day. She felt changed and it felt so good.
But she couldn’t bask in the glow of her personal growth for long. For as her newfound maturity reminded her, there were bigger things at stake right now.
Tonight was the night. The Coven was going down.

Chapter II
Once, you were asked how changing into human felt. You said it was like being stabbed by a hundred knives. Well, that was a lie, the transformation was fairly simple and painless, but what came next was always hard to deal with; in the ocean you were a weightless deity floating and dancing with the waves. On the other hand, everytime you were on land you felt heavy, like if all the weight of the world were put on your shoulders.
In short, gravity sucked.
However, you had more urgent matters to be preoccupied with. The seagul was right, Auradon was under a slepping spell. You had found some people at the beach and they were dead asleep and nothing you did was able to wake them up.
Who could have done that? In order to cast such a powerfull spell the person needed a lot of dark magic and the last time you checked...
Your thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the distant sound of voices. For a brief moment, your whole body tensed up. What if they were the ones behind this huge napping mess? However, before you could even reach the comb in your hair, a familiar voice called your name.
It was Mal... thank goodness. Apparently, not everyone had been cursed, maybe she knew what happened. Your relief didn't last long, though. Once you turned to face Mal and her friends, you were greeted by the sight of Uma, which made your whole body freeze up.
You were so screwed.
What was she doing here? Did Mal find and capture her? Did they know you had helped her? Was this a setup? Damn it! Your grandfather was going to kill you. Even worst, he would banish you to dry land.
You'd rather die.
Before you could open your mouth to defend yourself against whatever Mal was going to accuse you, she hugged you tightly.
Weird.
"What are you doing here? I thought you went back to Atlantica. Are you alright? Are you safe?" The purple haired girl put her hands on your shoulders, staring into your eyes. The genuine concern in her face suggested that she didn't know you and Uma were friends.
"Yes, I'm alright, don't worry.... but can anyone tell me what the hell is going on? I've heard some freak had cursed Auradon" you asked way too bluntly.
"You don't know?" She ran her hands nervously through her violet locks "Audrey stole my mother's scepter...."
"And decided to take revenge against Auradon..." you whispered to yourself, beggining to understand everything.
How Audrey didn't go mental sooner was beyond your comprehension. Being humiliated by her boyfriend in front of the entire school and then being outcasted by her friends mustn't have been the highlights of her life, so you couldn't say you were really surprised by this sudden outburst of hers. You only wished she hadn't messed with your family and friends.
Your eyes wandered to Uma's direction, you still didn't understand what she was doing here. You tried to play it cool, but Mal took notice of the questioning look on your face.
"They will bejoining us for the time being, by the way" she clarified, nodding towards the sea witch's daughter.
"They?"
With everything that took place in the last minutes you failed to notice the two young men standing behind Uma. One of them was very tall and brawny. He had warm brown eyes and long blonde locks. Judging by his excited and joyful expression, you bet this was Gil. Uma had spoken of him before, she said how he wasn't truly evil or smart but could be useful if you needed brutal force and unquestionable loyalty.
That was her way of saying that she liked him.
The other one, though... he really got carried away with the eyeliner... Uma had talked about him many times, so you didn't even have to see the hook on his hand to know who he was... However, even you had to admit he had quite beautiful eyes; they reminded you of your home, the ocean.
"Well, well, well..." he purred seductively walking in your direction, a mischievous smirk playing on his lips. " What a bonnie lass you are. I'm...'
"Harry Hook. I know" you cut him off aloof.
For one second he seemed to be taken aback by your response and lack of interest. Obviously, he wasn't used to girls treating him coldly; however, he quickly recomposed himself with the same devious grin on his face again.
"So, my reputation is famous even in Auradon, I see..." he said in an arrogant manner, leaning towards you and caressing your cheek with his hook.
You felt the cold and sharp metal against your skin. It was clear he had done this hundreds of times before, either to intimidate someone or to charm them. Well, too bad for him you weren't in the mood for games, and humans weren't really your type (mermen were so cute and you didn't have to sell your soul to be with them). Meeting the pirate's eyes, you pulled his hook away from your face.
"Not really... " you replied indifferently "I have some friends who knew your father... But I don't see how this is relevant".
This was a half-truth, you knew some mermaids from Neverland who often talked about the infamous Captain Hook and the pirates who had tormented Neverland for years. The other part of the truth was that Uma never shut up about him, it was always "Harry this, Harry that". But it wasn't like you could say this without revealing that you hid her in Atlantica for months.
Before the pirate could come back with some witty remark, Mal intervened between the two of you.
"You can chat latter, we have to go".
She signed to everyone to follow her. You greeted Carlos, Evie and Jay with a small nod to which they retributed politely, Evie even smiled at you. However, the tension could be felt in the air; something terrible was going on and everyone could sense it.
The human world, which used to be hectic and full of life, was deadly quiet. Theoretically, that should be the reason of the VKs' concerned expressions, but you didn't think Audrey and her new evil persona were the ones to blame for everybody's mood.
Not entirely, at least.
Carlos and Jay looked ready to punch somoneone in the face, to put it mildly. Considering how Jay was throwing daggers at Harry's direction, you'd say he didn't like the pirate that much. Come to think of it, Uma had told you once that she and Mal didn't really get along on the Isle. Was it possible that the frown on the boys faces was because an old grudge?
Humans weren't just petty, but immature too.
There was a younger girl with them, Celia, if you weren't mistaken. Gil and she were looking everything with sparkling eyes, like they had never seen a tree before... and it was possible they've never had, since they came from the Isle.
Gosh, that place was fucked up in so many levels.
As soon as everyone passed by you and were at a considerable distance, you approached Uma discreetely. It wasn't like you were internally freaking out or anything, but you didn't expect to find her and her former friends hanging out with Mal and her squad.
On top of that, the crème de la crème, everybody in Auradon was cursed by Audrey.
This was absolutely not how you imagined to spend your day.
Walking beside Uma, you whispered to her trying to look casual and making sure no one else could hear or even suspect that you two knew each other.
"What happened? We were supposed to meet at the barrier!"
Uma looked at you for a brief second before turning her head again, staring the path ahead.
"It's not like you had stuck to the plan, either" she murmured and you two kept walking. Out of the corner of your eye you saw Uma checking if anyone was paying attention to the two of you. Thankfully, the others were too occupied with their own business to notice the sea witch's daughter and Ariel's niece talking under their breath. Uma explained everything that happened earlier, and you made sure to listen her story carefully since her words were hushed and short.
Did you get it right, though?
Mal had promised to let all the Vks off the Isle? For real? As happy as it made you, a little voice inside your head was warning you something was off. Mal didn't have the power to decide it by herself. A lot of people didn't take kindly when Ben announced he was going to bring four villain kids to Auradon. Moreover, every single time you tried to talk Ben into letting the merpeople come off the Isle he'd say it wasn't simple like that. To bring four kids at a time and let them adapt to life outside the barrier was one thing, to let everybody out was another. After all, Auradon had rules and laws and to do something like that would require lots of planning and meetings and bla bla bla.
So, it was weird that Mal had agreed to do it just like that... You'd have to wait and see.
"What are you scheming?"
You jumped a good few inches off the ground. Not that you got scared easily, but you weren't used to people appearing behind you out of the blue. You recognized the one who had the audacity to startle you, of course it had to be him: Harry Hook.
The pirate was laughing his head off, his eyes were filled with tears. You rolled your eyes and walked away. As you did, you heard Uma warning him to chill, to which Harry complied. You heard him approaching you again, he wouldn't give you a rest, would he?
"Sorry princess, didn't mean to scare you". The way he said "princess" and how his mouth twisted into a ironic smile made you sure this was no compliment. He was mocking you.
The nerve.
"You better wipe this smirk off your face or I'll do it for you" you warned him, but it only made his smile grew wider.
"Nervous, huh? I could..."
You never got to know what he could do because in that moment the group arrived in the gardens of Auradon Prep. The place looked like it had come out of a horror movie, every single person there was asleep. People in Auradon were always so lively and now, if they weren't snoring , you would think they were all dead. Not far away, you found your cousins, Ella and Arabella, in a deep slumber. Well, at least they seemed peaceful. You wished they were having good dreams because everything around you was a real life nightmare.
If they had gone to Atlantica like you suggested, you wouldn't have to be here dealing with all this nonsense.
Apparently, Audrey had concluded that sleeping wasn't a bad punishment enough and decided to turn people into stone too.
How witty of her.
How did she want to be Queen if she was attacking the kingdom and its people? It made absolutely no sense. For what your family told you about villains, planning was their weakest point, they usually acted out of spite, revenge or greed and didn't think long term.
To say the least, If you want to be a jerk, be smart.
If you weren't sure that Jay and Harry didn't like one another before, now you were certain. You saw they bickering over a wallet or something, making empty threats to each other. More than that, Uma's crew and Mal's gang held a real grudge against each other. Like right now Mal and Uma were arguing over whose plan to follow. Mal really had the gift of getting on Uma's nerves, you've never seen your friend be so bitter, and you saw her quite angry many times before.
"Maybe we should check the school very quickly since we're already here" you offered, and Mal couldn't hide her incredulous expression as she looked at you. The purple haired girl seemed very offended by your suggestion, like she didn't believe you could take Uma's side.
Okay, she wasn't aware that you and Uma already knew each other and that you lived together for the past year, but she should know you better than to think you would not be on the side of someone of your own kind.
"To the castle" Mal gave the final word and again, everybody went after her. You grumbled, thoughts about leaving them and going back to Atlantica crossed your mind, but you'd never forgive yourself if you did so. Your family needed you and, on top of that, when everything was settled, you could say in your cousin's faces that you were right: the human world was a mess.
"You know who she is, right?"
This time was Jay who interrupted your thoughts, you frowned in confusion. What was he talking about?
"Uma, she is the daughter of Ursula. The Sea Witch?" he said, making himself clear.
"And? You are the son of Jafar, the Grand Vizier" you pointed out his own parentage.
Suddenly, Jay held you by the arm, pulling you away from the rest of the group. He did it as gently as he could, but, even so, if you didn't hold him in high esteem, you'd have punched the boy right in face. What was he thinking?
"You are not listening to me" he looked you dead in the eye, no hint of his usual cheerfulness on his face "I know you have this thing about protecting every mermaid of the world but Uma is dangerous. Remember what she and her pirates did last year?
Oh no, he wasn't going down that road, was he? You sighed, feeling sorry for him already. This was a battle he couldn't win.
"Yes, she gave Ben a love potion and tried to take down the barrier. I don't understand why you sound so upset about it, since you guys did the exact same thing when you came to Auradon less then two years ago. By the way, that's the reason why Audrey freaked out. So, do you really want to judge them, Jay? You had another chance, why not them?"
If he had to be honest with himself, Jay knew he avoided to think about this. That's why your words left him open-mouthed; he didn't expect you to be so straight forward about the subject.
"You don't understand. Even on the Isle, they were the worst of the worst" he insisted.
"Really? I thought you used to be the top dogs of the Isle. What about all that 'Long Live Evil?' baloney and the blasé attitude you guys had? " you waited for a response, as none came, you went on "Futhermore, I don't care if Uma is the daughter of Ursula. She has nothing to do with her mother's doings, in the same way you're not to blame for your father's crimes. Admit it, you just don't like them and you're being unfair."
You didn't mean to sound so harsh, so you jokingly added "Or maybe you're just afraid of losing your status of Auradon's bad boy... Don't worry darling, no one can compare to you".
You gave him a wink, your words made Jay blush and avoid your gaze. Taking the opportunity, you held his arm and led you both back to Ben's castle path.
"You're such a tease, you know that?" he told you as you both made your way towards the group who, at this point, where far ahead.
"A tease? Well, I suppose a tease is better than The Sea Bitch" you told him. It wasn't a secret to you that some people called you that. Well, if being strong-willed and independent were reasons to be considered a bitch, you accepted the title proudly.
"The Sea Bitch? Is it real?" he asked amusedly, raising an eyebrow.
"Very real. Not that I mind, I find it very fitting. Better be the Sea Bitch then the girl who was cursed as an infant or the one who ate the poisoned apple, right?"
You both laughed, it was moments like this that almost made you forget how much you disliked being on land.
Almost.
"Just be carefull, alright?" he smiled at you. It was hard to believe that someone as warm and kind as him had grown up in a place like the Isle of the Lost. Then again, that was the whole point of your argument against the place. You put all the bad people together in a place they can't leave, they have zero support or fundamental rights and they have to learn how to live like this. In addition, they were left there to rot.
It doesn't take a genius to realize this was doomed to failure. It was obvious that anyone born in a place like the Isle will likely believe that evil is the only way to succeed, since they were never taught better.
They needed a chance of having a normal life. Everyone could change, King Beast himself wasn't the nicest person in the world when Belle met him and Audrey had just cursed her friends in revenge. Was she a villain now? Would be she thrown on the isle? Everything that was happening just proved that everyone was capable of doing good and bad. Therefore, the Isle has been a mistake and the only thing it was doing was nursing the already existent animosity between heroes and villains.
Forgive and forget? More like resent and regret, and kids were paying the price for that.
"Guys we have to stay together. What if Audrey had showed up?" Evie scolded (well, as much as Evie could scold someone) you both when you reached the group.
"Don't blame me" you said, looking at Jay "But don't worry, if Audrey knew we are here, she'd have already sent her greetings".
"Yeah, sleeping curse or turning to stone. You decide" Carlos half joked. If hadn't been the deep frown on his face as he said that, you'd have believed he wasn't nervous at all.
Actually, everyone was deeply worried about Audrey showing up. It was noticeable how they were attentive to all kind of sounds around you, a little cracking noise in the woods was enough to make everyone turn their heads and tense up.
"I'd totally choose to become stone" you tried to break the ice "Let's be real, I'd be the prettiest statue here. I'd nailed it, no doubts".
"Yeah right, I'm sure you would find some way to turn youreself back to normal and kick Audrey's ass if she put a spell on you". Jay observed in a joking manner. You'd be pretty pissed to be turned into stone, that was true, and the fact Jay knew you so well annoyed you to no end.
Before you could reply to him, Harry joined your conversation.
"I didn't know princess knew how to fight. What do you do? Throw flowers at each other? That's lovely".
Breath, you told yourself. He was Uma's best friend and she would be very displeased if you pierced him with your trident...
Maybe you could make it look like an accident.
"I could fill a book with all the things you don't know" you answered him as coldly as you were able to. You didn't want to give him the satisfaction of knowing he was annoying you.
You saw Uma whispering something in his ear, whatever she said made him groan and roll his eyes.
The atmosphere in the air was thick with tension. Fortunately, Ben's castle was already in sight, which made Mal pick up the pace in hopes to get there as fast as possible. You took advantage of this and went to talk to Uma again.
"What did you tell him?" You asked her.
"Hm?" She turned her face to you with a confused expression. She didn't get what you were talking about.
"Harry" you clarified "What did you tell him?" The pirate has been strangely quiet, contenting himself with doing snarky comments about Araudon and its inhabitants.
"Oh that..." she chuckled to herself "I said he'd better leave you alone before you lost your temper and shove his hook up his..."
"We're here. Let's go in" Mal called out, drowning out Uma's last words.
"He is stubborn and doesn't like being contradicted, just like you" the sea witch's daughter concluded, grinning slightly.
You were about to reply, you were nothing like Harry, but doing it would only prove her right. So, instead, you nodded to show you had heard her. Both of you stayed silent as you walked into the castle. You pondered about the outcomes that would take place from that moment on; the fate of Auradon and the Isle were on the line. Either winning or losing would change everything, and you'd be lying if you said you weren't excited to see what was going to happen next.

my greatest regret is the shattering of a heart not mine.

alternate universe fanfiction | descendants two | canon compliant | part one of ? | rating : teen | warnings : swearing, pirates making ben question his sexuality | word count : 2002 | masterlist
prompt: none! i made this moodboard for the idea of this and i’m writing about it now, try and stop me.
| “audrey,” harry tilts his head to the side, his expression unclear but he sees the motion. “my, uh, ex-girlfriend. i kissed mal in front of everybody and i didn’t break up with her yet.” he doesn’t give harry the chance to talk again before his mouth opens again with what seems like word-vomit. “she was my best friend, and i never said sorry. i just miss her i guess.” |

ben feels everything. his limbs are restrained against tough ropes and although none are touching his skin, it feels all too much. the air seems so thick and his anxious heart is speeding in his chest. what’s even worse is that he’s sure that the pirates keeping him captive are all too aware of his nervousness and can’t help but taunt him. and to make it worse, the boy with the hook (harry?) has nearly cut up his skin so many times ben has lost count. (six, it was six times that he could feel the cold metal of a hook on his flushed skin.)
uma has said so many times that if he even breathes wrong he’s as good as dead. so really, he’s stuck in place with praying that mal can get him out without giving uma the wand. it hurts him how her body is filled to the brim with anger, no room for sympathy. he watches her, and while he’s not very smooth about it, she likes being paid attention to, so it might just work in his favor.
not that he even wanted to go back to auradon, he couldn’t, not after everything that he had seen. everytime he closed his eyes he could see the innocent faces that watched him as he tried to be ‘bad’. his heart had broken so many times today, and mal giving his ring back was the least of it.
he wanted to help, but help seems to be eternities away. what he wants to do is promise uma that he’ll make sure all of those kids are safe. but he can’t, because he won’t break a promise, not another one.
uma had told him that the kids here don’t get anything, and the things that they do get is trash. you can’t grow most of anything on the isle with the pollution, and even the better looking trash gets picked off by adults or their street rats.
another thing that he’s super aware of is how cold it is. his heart is cold and they took his jacket and his hat and he’s shivering against the chilling air of the sea. now all he’s left with is a ripped white tee-shirt and cold, tight leather pants that make his legs prickle up because of how sensitive he is, how sensitive he’s always been.
it sends a pang to his heart thinking about hungry and shivering children huddled together by burning trash piles in allies, just waiting for bigger predator to come and hurt them.
about two hours after the took him, after it had gotten dark, uma had asked harry to tie his arms over his head, because he was getting too comfortable. harry had a blast doing that, and all ben could see was the glint of his hook and the blue of his eyes. his hands had turned wandering and even as ben’s eyelids were hooded with tiredness, he knew what was happening. or at least, what harry thought was happening. if it wasn’t so dark, they could see how flushed his face was.
he was scared, ben was the first to admit it. he just wanted to go home, he didn’t even care if mal came back. he apologized, but she had made it clear he really didn’t mean anything to her. he really had thought they were something, it felt like they were going to last, truly. (he should’ve seen it coming after she had to spell him to swell his affections)
he was barely a king, just shy of seventeen and the most unlike his father he could be. ben was gentle and sympathetic whereas his father ruled with an iron fist, and there were no second chances. none of the descendants of the villains deserved to be on the isle, ben knew that. but he doubted he’d be able to convince any of the council that all of them could get off. of course, uma doesn’t take that as an answer.
“yeah, bullshit.” is what she says as he tries to explain the long and tiresome process, and then she leaves him with harry again. uma doesn’t care what he has to say. she doesn’t care that she’s committing about twelve acts of treason right now, it’s refreshing almost, except for the fact that he’s probably going to die.
“beasty boy, get out of your head.” harry purrs, it’s almost calming, if you forget the shiny hook in his hand. “uma says it’s bedtime, we gotta find someplace for you to rest you pretty little head.” he pretends he doesn't hear it, but it doesn’t work, obviously.
he blushes, and his eyes find his way to the ground, “okay”. it’s soft and small, which matches exactly how he feels. he wishes he could melt into the wood that’s hard against his back, and his arms are beginning to ache with isn’t related but still on his mind. he tugs at the rope, and harry’s eyes crinkle with the smirk that is probably on his smug face.
“ah ah ah, i’m not untying you, princey. you're gonna have to sleep like that. but we can’t leave you out here. you’ve got a lotta’ people here that hate you, y’know.” he hates that he is starting to like harry’s voice, and he writes it off because it’s dark and he can’t hear the boisterous chatter of the pirates on deck, as they have retired to bed. uma wasn’t there, and it leaves ben to think that harry could literally kill him right now. he’s just lonely and scared. so harry’s lilting accent is a comfort, because he’s scared. (yeah, ben doesn’t understand either)
ben sighs, “i know.” he does know, he just gets so hopeful. it’s really quite stupid because he knows nothing is going to change except for the scenery. his father says it’s his greatest flaw, that he always has hope. only right now, he has lost hope, because he’d rather die than let uma hurt the people he loved in auradon. (how heroic, right?)
he thinks of audrey, and how she would be the first to tell him that she was right. (she had planned the vks arrival in the first place, but she had still not quite agreed with it. she had told him that villains can’t raise children, they needed extensive therapy before coming anywhere near auradon.)
he misses audrey, she would’ve never let him do this. he should have tried to keep in contact with his best friend, instead of keeping her out. the princess used to calm him down when ben would get anxious, but now he’s all alone. he can tell that once mal officially breaks up with him, her friends will follow.
“when i said get out of your head, i fuckin’ meant it.” he takes ben’s chin in his fingers, the notion is supposed to be sweet in an ideal world. ben has come to learn that this is not an ideal world. “you’re pretty, but not pretty enough that i won’t mark that skin of yours up.” he flinches against the hold, but harry doesn’t budge.
ben blushes at the pretty, especially the way he says it is more then mal ever has. he undoes the ropes holding his waist, knees, and chest before harry roughly takes him by his tied hands. “time to go below deck, hopefully this is the only time you’ll get to see it.” he pauses, and the hook is cold against his cheek. “before uma throws you to the fishies.”
ben nods sheepishly, “okay.” harry laughs before they start to move, and he tries to be so very careful not to fall. he’s shivering as he moves, praying that it’ll be just a little warmer inside of the ship. he knows better than to hope for that at least.
it’s a minute or so before they arrive at a dark door, with the moonlight streaming in from the circular window only highlighting the knob. harry slides a key in the lock, holding onto ben’s hands with his hook. the click is satisfying, but it sends a pang of nervousness to his chest.
harry pushes him in, and he stumbles. “stay here, i’m locking the door but i’ll be back with a blanket or something to keep you warm.” he motions to the rickety cot looking bed strewn in the room. the mattress looked filthy, but it was something. “not very comfortable, but only the best for his highness.” he does his best not to correct him, because harry won’t care.
ben nods and sits down on the bed, hands still tied. harry’s right, it isn’t comfortable. but it’s something at least, he could have had worse. he’s grateful for being alive for this long, but he wishes he could apologize to everyone in auradon for failing as a king, and apologizing to some (one) for failing as a best friend.
he curls against himself on the mattress, and he mentally praises himself for not worrying about the bugs that may be crawling beneath it. ben is a king, but most of the time he still signs things as ‘prince benjamin’. he says it’s just because he forgets, but he hates being king most of the time. it’s his responsibility though, so he will push through it.
ben is pulled rapidly out of his thoughts when he hears the floors creaking. the clink of a key chain soon follows with the click of the door as it creaks open. his eyes blink at the light streaming in from the window, as his room has none. harry clears his throat, “were you sleepin’ already, princey? you sure you need the blanket after all?”
he knows harry expects an answer, so he says, “no, just thinking.” harry makes little ‘hm’ sound that really doesn’t suit him at all. if it wasn’t dark and he wasn’t being held hostage by these people, ben would probably think it was cute. the footsteps return slowly, as harry comes closer to him with a bundle of what ben assumes is the blanket in his arms.
what he doesn’t assume is that harry places the blanket in his arms carefully as he squats down in front of him. his elbows were perched upon his knees, ben tries not to notice his pretty blue eyes and how they shine in the faint light. “thinkin’ ‘bout what?” he blinks, and suddenly his head clears of everything except for the name of a pink princess.
“she was my best friend, and i never said sorry. i just miss her i guess.”
“was she pretty?” ben’s jaw would’ve dropped on a normal day.
“uhm, y-yes. yeah she was- is. she is pretty, really pretty.” harry makes an ‘ah’ sound before he stands up, it sounds like he’s brushing off his thighs.
“if i’m not going to get to hook you tomorrow, i’d ask if i could meet her. maybe if you ask nicely she won’t end up with the rest of your friends. i bet her and uma would get along.” ben inhales sharply, it’s shaky but sudden.
“please harry, please don’t hurt her.” his voice is pathetic, but if he really does end up dying, and everything goes to shit. all he needs to know is that the one person who did anything or everything for him, would be safe.
harry chuckles softly, “mm, okay pretty boy. one pretty princess audrey off of the kill list.” and then he’s at the door, the light shining on his face. he yawns, “goodnight, princey.” anxiety stirs in his stomach as he swallows in time with the click of the lock.

fonder hearts
pairing: harry/evie, some platonic!ben/harry, and platonic!evie/uma/mal rating: pg-13 words: ~3200 a/n: i enjoyed writing the first bit of this haha, but hope you all enjoy. prompt: Evie and Harry fic where Evie is mad at harry and isolated herself from him read on: [ao3] [ffn.net]
He couldn’t say he was exactly surprised, rather the situation had really been a long time coming. With the way Harry was, it was only a matter of time he did something that would warrant the use of the silent treatment from the normally composed princess. While it was no secret that the two had clashing personalities, the beginnings of their relationship essentially characterized by their endless bickering, it was always in good fun. Whenever the two fought, it would always be resolved within the hour, mainly because of their inability to keep their hands off each other.
But if Evie had gone this long without talking to him, the pirate must have done something extremely dire to evoke such a reaction. Whatever it was, it had Ben truly worried because this wasn’t affecting just the both of them, no it was affecting everyone in their friendship circle too. Harry seemed to have retreated with Uma and Gil, and the VKs had resorted to their previous hostility, with the AKs more or less caught between the two.
Ben knew that he needed to do something before it became unsalvageable, yet he didn’t expect the opportunity to come around when the pirate had gone to him for help. If anything, he would have expected he talk to Uma or Gil about it, and perhaps to an extent Carlos because aside from Evie, Carlos was the only one of the four who could initially tolerate him, with Mal and Jay taking longer to come around.
And yet he had come to him. While they weren’t exactly enemies like before, they weren’t exactly close either. To Ben’s distaste, they had never really had the chance to develop a friendship like he had originally been hoping for, with the only times they were able to interact due to their respective girlfriends. It wasn’t that he had been avoiding him, but rather that there was never really a chance to become friends, especially because his workload had gotten twice as heavy as before. Nowadays, only Mal was able to seem him daily but then again they were only a few short visits.
But much to his fortune, his work had been cleared and now he had been enjoying his free time until the pirate had sauntered in without a care.
"Have you ever heard of the saying, absence makes the heart grow fonder?”
He watched as Harry raised a brow, unable to follow. He sighed, thinking of ways to make his argument more understandable. He couldn’t screw this up, not when his friends’ relationship was counting on it.
"And yer point is?”
"That this separation is good for you. You two haven't really separated much from the moment you got here, which isn't bad but I think this distance will make you guys stronger in the long run,” Ben explained as clearly as he could, observing the pirate’s reaction.
To his disappointment, he offered a scowl in annoyance. "What kind of bullshit are ye spewing out now? I only came to ye because ye'd have the most experience with this, and I thought ye could help me."
"But I am helping you."
"If that's how ye help people, then I fear for the future of Auradon,” Harry snapped, Ben wincing at his tone. This was going to be harder than he thought, he sighed.
"Look, do you want my help or not?” he asked in exasperation, the pirate bristling in irritation.
"That depends if yer help involves this 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' bullshit.”
Ben shook his head. ”Listen Harry, you said it yourself. You came to me because I've got experience, and I do. If Evie's anything like Mal, which I'm sure she is, then you have to play your cards carefully. So when I say that this distance will make your relationship stronger, it will. In the meantime, give her her space and she'll come around.”
He seemed to gauge the words carefully before nodding in understanding.
"Or wait until I'm in danger and she comes rescuing me like what happened with ye,” Harry added mischievously, Ben rolling his eyes. At least the male finally understood.
"I'm being serious Harry. Give her space.”
Harry sighed, placing his hands up in surrender. "Alright, alright. Thanks beasty boy.”
He couldn’t stop the grin from spreading on his face at the words of gratitude. Harry Hook didn’t normally thank anyone, so this was an honor in itself. “Your welcome.”
He nodded, turning to leave before halting in his tracks. Ben raised a brow as the boy turned back, eyeing him curiously. “Out of sheer curiosity, what happened when Mal gave ye the silent treatment?”
Memories suddenly flashed through his mind, Ben frowning in distaste. It was all in the past now, but those times had been one of the worst during his relationship, and no man should ever have to go through the same thing. “It wasn’t pretty.”
This appeared to pique his interest as he turned to face the king fully, eyes urging him to go on. Ben ran a hand through his hair. “The worst silent treatment she gave me lasted for two weeks.”
Harry whistled in awe, almost impressed. “Two weeks? Whatever did ye do to anger her so much?”
“I said things I shouldn’t have said and let’s just leave it at that. Anyway, when Mal gave me the silent treatment I bugged her quite a bit about it. I would always try to clear my schedules just to see her, make new schedules so she’d have to see me, and so forth. But she managed to thwart me every time, and I realize the reason she got so good at being unable to talk to me during that time was because she charmed herself not to. She would only speak to everyone who wasn’t me, and she never allowed herself to pass messages to me so I never knew what was going through her mind.”
“Ye seemed to have had it a lot worse than I do,” Harry remarked, “But who says mine won’t be worse? Princess can do spells even though she chooses not to, so maybe Mal charmed her too.”
Ben shook his head. “I would no. Mal tells me everything.”
“So, how’d ye get through it then?”
“It was only after Evie advised me to give her some space that things began looking up. I realized that after being the one to keep approaching her, in the end it had to be the other way around. She’ll come to you when she wants to, so don’t force her into it otherwise it just goes longer. And when she does come, I advise you to grovel.”
Harry looked appalled at the idea. “Grovel? Pirates don't grovel.”
He shrugged. “Neither do kings, but if you want your queen back, you have to. Just apologize for everything, and don’t fight her on it because it’ll only make matters worse. Once she accepts the apology however, that’s when you can even out the playing field because soon she realizes that we’re both in the wrong and eventually just let everything out.”
“Are ye sure that works?”
Ben nodded firmly in affirmation, giving the male a pat on the back to wish good luck. “Space and grovel. That’s the key.”
//
“He’s as stubborn as a mule that one. He’ll never apologize you know,” Mal noted as Evie combed her hair. The two were gathered in Evie’s room, along with Uma, who despite previous hostility, had eventually reached out to the two. They were all more or less filled in with the previous events, and Uma surprisingly had taken Evie’s side, noting that he had really messed up this time.
“Yeah. Unless he’s absolutely certain that he's in the wrong, he won’t do anything. He has too much pride for that,” Uma added, the queen nodding in agreement.
Evie sighed as she faced the both of them, shaking her head. “I know he won’t, but I’m still hoping he’ll try. I mean, we were both in the wrong but—“
“But nothing,” Mal interrupted, “Even though you may have had your part in all this, Harry’s the one who screwed up. Big time. He needs to apologize if he ever wants to gain your trust again.”
Uma nodded in agreement. “I have to agree with her on this one. Harry’s told me everything, but so have you, and even if he doesn’t see it yet, I know that he’s more in the wrong than you are. Until he’s got that figured out, just leave him be. You’ve avoided him for a week already, who says that you can’t go on for a little longer?”
“Yeah. I mean, I avoided Ben for two weeks and if he hadn’t gotten the message after the first week, I was prepared to go even longer.”
The pirate raised a brow in curiosity. “What did beasty boy ever do that was so bad you had to avoid him for two weeks?”
Mal frowned. “That’s a long story and—“
“She’ll tell you it another day, I promise,” Evie cut off, standing up as she placed her comb on her vanity table. “But right now, tell me something. What do I do if he doesn’t apologize? Should I go up to him to do it myself?”
Both girls opened their mouths in protests but after a look from Evie, held their tongues. “I can’t lose him. I don’t want to lose him, not when I have the chance to make things right. It was all a misunderstanding, and I refuse to let our relationship crumble because I was too stubborn not to put my pride away and reach out to him.”
Uma and Mal shared a look before Uma took the initiative to take a step closer, looking Evie straight in the eye. She put a comforting hand on the girl’s shoulder, squeezing gently to offer some reassurance. “You won’t lose him, I promise. If Harry doesn’t apologize, I’ll make him do it myself.”
The princess smiled gratefully at her, placing a hand over hers in gratitude. Never did she think she’d share this sort of friendship with Uma, but she was glad she had. After Mal and Uma had finally put aside their differences, Evie had begun to learn that the girl wasn’t as bad as she thought, especially when she wasn’t angry. After being Mal’s friend so long, she too was blinded by the hatred she had felt for the pirate but it was thanks to Auradon and the true goodness in her heart that she was able to think otherwise. While Uma wasn’t her best friend, they were very close and Evie was forever grateful she had managed to find a good friend, confidant and advisor in her, especially when it came to her own stubborn pirate.
“One more day Evie, keep your silence for one more day and then you can take action. But give him the chance to do it all on his own first,” Mal advised, coming to take her hands in hers.
The girl nodded, squeezing her hands gently. One more day, she thought, don’t screw this up Harry.
//
Perhaps before he had left the king’s good company, he should’ve asked on the specifics of how long he should give the princess her ‘space’. How long did he expect him to wait? Another day? Another week?
He didn’t think he could go on another week without her talking to him. One week had been seven days too many, but it had been his pride that had kept him from marching up to her and conceding his wrongs. Perhaps he had screwed up big time, but he was absolutely certain that she wasn’t in the clear either. They both had their parts to play in all this, and until she realized all this, he refused to take the initiative and apologize first.
But that was a week before he realized that she wasn’t going to such a thing sooner or later. And thus seven days had passed with her silence, the both of them unable to repair what could have been fixed so much earlier had they decided that enough was enough. It had made him desperate enough to seek out the king, who he would begrudgingly admit wasn’t wrong with that stupid motto of his.
What was it again? Ah yes, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
His heart had definitely grown fonder that was for sure, and it was true that since his coming to the Isle, they had hardly separated unless it was necessary. Evie made his life on Auradon more tolerable, being surrounded by all this goodness that had him reeling in disgust. But he had to admit that his disgust had grown weaker until he almost no longer minded, almost. But that didn’t mean he would become like one of those prissy princes the princess would always fantasise about. He was still a pirate at heart, and once the time of graduation came, he would be out of there and sailing the seas for all his cared, with his princess at his toes.
But he was uncertain of that ever happening now, not when she was still set on blatantly ignoring him. He really should have asked how long this ‘giving space’ would last because he didn’t think he would last a day. But that meant he would have to grovel at her feet, and did he really want to grovel?
He was pulled back from his thoughts when he caught sight of a mop of blue hair at the corner of his eyes. Harry’s eyes immediately followed the blue hair as it got swept away in the crowds before it finally disappeared.
No, he wasn’t grovel. He was too prideful for that.
However that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to put away his pride and finally admit that yes, perhaps he had gone overboard and that his misdeeds were far worse than hers. To see that blue hair without getting close enough to touch it was torture in itself, and he had missed her with all his heart. Truly.
Without hesitation, the pirate spurred forward to follow where he had last seen her. He navigated himself skilfully through the crowds, fixing a glare on his face as they decidedly parted for him to let him through. Harry smirked inwardly; he still had that effect on people.
He reached the end of the corridor, head whipping around to search for the familiar figure of his princess but only to come empty. Harry cursed inwardly, running a hand through his hair in aggravation before that sliver of blue came into sight again.
His legs moved before he could think otherwise, the male walking briskly to reach her before he lost sight of her again. It was her, he thought joyously as he came closer. He hadn’t seen her up close in days, and he almost worried that his memory of her didn’t do her justice.
And it truly didn’t. She was as beautiful as he remembered; royal blue hair, painted ruby lips and warm hazel eyes. Before she could move any further, Harry reached out to grab her arm, spinning her to face him.
He heard a sharp intake of breath when she finally looked up to face him, eyes widening in surprise. “Harry,” he heard her breath and he felt a surge of confidence soar within him. He was glad to know that her feelings for him hadn’t changed after all, despite him being a complete and utter douchebag.
“Princess,” he greeted softly, nodding his head in acknowledgment. He still kept his hand wrapped around her arm, and she didn’t move to remove it, instead staring at him as thoughts swirled in her mind. What was she thinking?
“What are you doing here?” she finally asked after moments of silence, Harry clearing his throat.
“I’m putting away my pride for this,” he began with a wry smirk, “But I should’ve done this days ago.”
She raised a brow in confusion. “Wha—“
“I’m sorry,” he said sincerely, “I’m sorry Princess for everything. It was all my fault. I shouldn’t have said those things, and I’m sorry.”
Evie shook her head, the pirate wincing as he came to another conclusion. But his fears proved useless when she raised a hand to cup his cheek tenderly, again shaking her head.
“I’m sorry too. It wasn’t just you who was at fault. I also said some nasty words.”
“I said worse,” he protested as she continued to shake her head.
“I’m certain I said worse.”
Harry’s eyes twinkled in mischief as he suddenly chuckled. “What is this? A competition for who said the nastiest words?”
Evie joined in his laughing, giggling at the thought. “We are villains after all. Our words have always been wicked.”
He grinned, removing his hand around her arm and instead to rest it atop hers on his cheek. “But forgive me Princess.”
“Of course,” she replied, “Only if you forgive me however.”
He raised a brow. “I would be stupid enough not to.”
Evie’s lips lifted before she caught the both of them off guard when she abruptly pulled his neck down to meet her, promptly smashing her lips on his. He was almost taken aback by her boldness but quickly returned her kiss with as much vigor as she had, wrapping his arms around her waist to pull her closer. Evie held his head gently in place as she poured her emotions of longing and love into that one kiss, after having been separated from him for so long.
They only broke apart when a shout of, “Oi! Get a room!” cried out in the distance, Harry pulling away in irritation as he whipped his head around to look for the source of the voice.
“Fuck off and mind yer own business!” He shouted in retaliation, turning back to look at Evie who was now biting her lip as she looked down in embarrassment. Harry eyed her amusedly, adoring the little blush on her cheeks.
“I forgot we were in public,” she admitted, Harry shrugging nonchalantly.
“I really don’t care. Let them stare if they want, I’ll still kiss ye.”
Her cheeks flamed as she lifted her head to glare at him. “But not in public! We should probably take his advice and move this to a room.”
Harry’s eyebrows lifted at the implications, his smirk turning roguish. “My room then. Gil’s out with Chad so I have it all to myself. We can continue this there.”
The blush on Evie’s face refused to go away when she finally realized the extent of her wording before she slapped him on the chest lightly. “Get your mind out of the gutter.”
A chuckle left his lips as he pulled her to his side, lightly kissing the top of her head. “I’m only doin’ what ye asked me to Princess. Besides, it’s been far too long and my bed has been cold without ye.”
Evie slapped him again before leaning into his chest, carefully admitting, “Mine has too.”
Harry grinned a crooked grin. Absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder.

_____
"What did you tell him?" You questioned her.
"Hum?" She turned her face to you with a confused expression. She didn't get what you were talking about.
"Harry" you clarified "What did you tell him?" The pirate had been strangely quiet, contenting himself with doing snarky comments about Araudon and its inhabitants.
"Oh that..." she chuckled to herself "I said he'd better leave you alone before you lost your temper and shove his hook up his..."
"We're here. Let's go in" Mal called out, drowning out Uma's last words.
"He doesn't like to be contradicted, just like you" the sea witch's daughter concluded, grinning slightly.
You were about to reply, but doing it would only prove her righ. So, instead, you nodded to show you had heard her. Both of you stayed silent as you walked into the castle, you pondering about the outcomes that would take place from that moment on.
The fate of Auradon and the Isle were on the line. Either winning or losing would change everything, and you'd be lying if you said you weren't excited to see what was going to happen next.
